1. In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media
products?
2. My final production magazines have a lot of “Vibe” magazine
convention as this is the magazine I have mainly based my
magazine on, but my magazine also has hints of “Q” and
“blender” magazine in it as I also looked at this magazines.
The next slides explore the codes and conventions I have used in
my magazine.
3. Central image medium
close up, uses direct
mode of address as it
helps to build personal
relationship. This
technique is regularly
used in most magazines.

sex appeal to attract
men.

which stands out. Very
conventional for “vibe”
Colour scheme- very
conventional for “vibe”. So, I
decided to use it as you can see
the pages are all from the same
magazine.. This carries on
throughout my magazine.
My background colour being
grey is unconventional as “Vibe”
normally has white background
but I decided to change this
because my focus group said
they preferred grey as it made it
look less empty.
Using a “+” is very
convectional for “vibe”
magazines , and I
decided to use it as it
looks more interesting
have signs, words and
pictures.

Having a letter representing
your magazine in the
background is very
convectional for “vibe”. I used
a letter “B” because my
magazine is called “BEAT” so
your reminding your audience
of your magazine.
The title is very similar to
“vibe” (as you can see from
picture left) I decided to
have a similar title because it
stands out and looks
professional.
Having sub titles like
“features” and “fashion” is
very conventional for “vibe”
even though I changed
mine to “features”, “news”
and “regulars” because I
thought it was easier to
navigate.
I briefly described what
each article was about so it
was easier for people to
decided weather they
wanted to read the article
or not- this is conventional
for “vibe”
5. Dropped capital-
very conventional for
“vibe”
Photo taking up half the article very conventional.
I decided to do this because my focus group said
they would want the magazine for leisure and to
not read to much so I used interesting pictures.
Pulled quote very conventional but mine is unconventional
placed but I decided to put my quote under the title because I
thought it would be the first thing you read so as my focus
group said they wouldn’t read much I wanted to draw them in
by reading a quote first.
