Global spending on R&D has reached a record high of
almost US$ 1.7 trillion. As part of the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs), countries have pledged to
substantially increase public and private R&D spending as
well as the number of researchers by 2030.
As a R&D engineer, we all focus effectively on the “D” part of R&D but question yourself, what are you doing with “R – Research” ?
31. AS R&D ENGINEERS, I WANT YOU TO GIVE EMPHASIS ON “R” IN YOUR DAY TO DAY WORK.
THIS IS THE ONLY WAY WE CAN GO UP THE VALUE CHAIN AND BE CLOSER TO TECHNOLOGY
AND THUS BE CLOSER TO CUSTOMERS WHO ARE DOING CUTTING EDGE DESIGNS.
OVER THE YEARS, WE HAVE SEEN THAT THE CUSTOMER'S TECHNOLOGY FOCUS HAS EVOLVED
AND IS EXPERIMENTING ON DISRUPTIVE TECHNOLOGY. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO US? THEY
ARE ABSOLUTELY PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES ON THE TOOLS WE HAVE DEVELOPED. IF WE
NEED TO BE A STRATEGIC TOOL AND TECHNOLOGY PARTNER OF OUR CUSTOMER, WE HAVE
TO CONTINUOUSLY INNOVATE TO BE A PART OF THEIR FUTURE SOLUTIONS
OUR DNA OF “DRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE AND QUALITY DELIVERY” SHOULD ALWAYS BE
COUPLED WITH A MINDSET OF BUILDING “ON THE MOVE BEHAVIORS”. THIS HELPS IN
FOCUSING ON EFFICIENCY, PERSEVERANCE AND AGILITY. IN ADDITION, IT IS IMPORTANT AS
LEADERS TO FOSTER “ENABLING MINDSET” IN OUR TEAM MEMBERS. THIS WILL DEFINITELY
BREED A "CULTURE OF INNOVATION".
