1. -923925-923925<br />Survival At Stake<br />( Section-1: Friends meet)<br />-Shubhank Shukla<br />“Bye Mr. Kumar”, said Hemsworth.<br />“Bye”.<br />And then Mr.Kumar boarded his flight, it was almost after 10 years that he was returning to India. <br />Mr. Kumar was quiet a healthy man who was 6 feet tall wore glasses that had golden frame, always put a sandalwood tilak like a typical South Indian , and above all was C.S.S at NASA. He was very intelligent and no one could match his wits. <br />As his flight landed at Bangalore, he directly headed towards his home to meet his mom,dad and sister who had been waiting for him so eagerly.<br />“We are so proud of you son, you just haven’t raised my reputation but you are one of the reason why India is now among the top countries. And your contribution in the 2012 episode.”, said Mr. Kumar’s father with a big smile on his face.”And now that you have come here I’ll make sure that you get married to the girl whom I’ve been seeing for past two years her name is Avantika.”said his mother. And they chatted till the evening. In the evening Mr. Kumar was getting ready to go out, and on seeing him getting ready his mother asked him “where are you going?” . For which he said he was going to meet someone and then his sister asked ”chetah, are you dating someone” ,”you will marry only Avantika I said you before itself!” said his mom.<br />“Mom, am going to meet my friends, i messaged them to reach our favorite place.” he said.<br />“Dont tell me you are talking about the two bastards.” his father said.<br />“Dad! Bye!”.<br />He reached the place within a few minutes. The place was now an artificial reservoir which used to a beautiful lake at their time. The place has changed, but the wind, it flows still in the same direction with the same speed, so refreshing , it makes me remember the days when we used to come here, the days when i enjoyed the most, my school days so beautiful, he thought. I still remember the first time we came here, did not know the way , just had seen this lake from a far distance and then started moving towards it via the jungles then the graveyards, so scared for we could see not a single man...... and he was thinking on and on. Then he could see a fat guy and a tall guy walking towards him. “Fat guy must be unaid but who the hell grew so tall cant be Shubhank!”. And then he saw them closely. Shubhank had grown taller than he was, and uniad still the same. They ran towards each other and as they reached closer their heart was filled with happiness, eyes with tears and lips lots of things to say. And the first thing they said was “oh! Fucker where had you been “, with the same tone, same tempo and then they laughed together.<br />“So, arun how are you?”enquired Unaid,”i m good so what are you people doing nowadays?”he replied. “This asshole has become a rockstar. Heard of the band –THE FURY? He leads it.”, said unaid. “Really Shubhank ?i always thought that it sounded like your voice when i heard the songs of The Fury especially in th song -its thrilling!”,said arun.<br />“Ya was just a bit lucky in the end to make a band but not more than this guy, guess what??? He’s married to her”,said Shubh.<br />“oh my goodness! How did you manage to convince your parents?”, said arun<br />“It was tough and long story ,tell you some other time. But Shubh he has array of gals behind him and ya he’s dating Priyanka Chopra’s cousin” Unaid said.<br />“Ami her name is. What’s your status Arun??” said Shubh.<br />“Fucked!” and they all laughed s he coninued “ never had time due to work load . Used to flirt with machines!” he said.<br />“Hey how did you manage to get into NASA?” uniad enquired.<br />“ The college in which i was studying at Arnakulam was a reputed college an Indian scientist at NASA was brought as the cheif guest when i was giving a seminar. And he was impressed by me or rather God was impressed by me and he asked me if i was interested to work on a project at NASA , and who could refuse?? By the way what do you do Unaid, besides loving her?” Arun said.<br />“Well, i have built up my own company. The Zeeshan’s. co.” he replied and also asked Arun why he had come to India.<br />For which Shubhank interrupted”To go and say Ami that one of his friends wants to marry her!” and burst out laughing and Arun said “ Man, i miss those days! Heyy by the way what are Ankit and Ankur doing?”<br />“Ankit had called me up day before yesterday and said that he was promoted as the Chief Executive at some multi-national company.He and I had done our MBA from the same college and was lucky enough to get placed via the campus selection.” Unaid said.<br />And shubh contd.”And Ankur is a lecturer at the National college. I repeat a LECTURER at National college, for those who did not get the intensity I’ll repeat again- a lecturer at a college!!”and he started grinning.<br />They chatted for long and laughed even longer and left to their homes with a promise to meet the next morning.<br />( Section-2: The 2012 Episode)<br />The Next morning they again got into some talks when Unaid asked “Hey Mr. Kumar what exactly happened in the 2012 episode? Tell me everything”.<br />And then Arun began-<br />“As you also know that it was confirmed in the news that the earth was about to end. We had gathered a lot of evidences to prove it too and the major reason being the passing of planet X. Because when the planet would pass by the earth it would trigger into the increase of activity of the sun which may in return cause the magnetic polar shift at earth which would mean the end. And this you would have seen on the news too. We the people at NASA were trying out all the ways possible but found only two ways one we moved earth away from its path which was impossible, and two we destroy the planet X and hence we had no other choice than choosing the latter option. We collected and made as many nuclear weapons as possible which would make huge impacts on collision with the planet’s surface. We also made nuclear reactors with removable chambers which would mean mass destruction due to nuclear fission on planet X. That idea was by me and my team.We saw launched the ammunitions such that the hit right in the middle and the planet gets fully destroyed, but shockingly the planet had many asteroid like structures revolving around it at huge velocity which were confirmed to not be the planet’s moons due to their irregular structures and alarming velocities. And it was due to these asteroid like structures which we called as the defense that our ammunitions got deviated from their path and did not hit the targeted areas of the planets and as a result the planet was not destroyed and moved away from its orbit a little and we were saved that time.”<br />“Wow! That was interesting and smart of you people .”said Unaid<br />“But there is one that is to worry and only we the people at NASA know it. Due to sun’s gravity and other reasons every planets has its own orbit and if we moved a planet it would come back to its orbit. And here is the bad news, Planet X is back on its orbit and according to our calculations its going to be back by 2019.”<br />“That means we have still not pulled ourselves out of danger!” exclaimed Shubh and asked “why did you people hide it? “<br />“So that people do no panic and do foolish things like the last time” Unaid said.<br />“Right, And now we dont have that many nuclear weapons again to attack the Planet X and also due to our previous attack the number of asteroids around it that is its defense has increased., which means Planet X is coming again and this time not stronger but we are weaker. And our Survival is at stake”.<br />(section -3: What the hell is happening? )<br />“Hmmm..... such a nice novel best thing about it is that the writer is me. I still remember i had written this during my vacations after twelfth. And many friends had appreciated for the effort! but the thin was that only friends knew i had writen the novel and hence it had only four-five readers so i did not write the second part”, thinking such things i fell asleep.<br />The next day morning was just another day of my semester end vacations. I was alone at home as home had gone out with her friend for shopping and said she would return by five in the evening. I had nothing to do other than watching television- the only thing that could keep me away from boredom. For me whoever created television was god because one can fight diseases alone, but not boredom. Then suddenly someone knocked the door and was wondering who could it be at such a scorcher Wednesday, a murderer who would have been keeping an eye on me and knew that i was alone and hence he would kill me and take away all the money? And then i thought these thoughts were a side effects of watching CID on sony which is broadcasted nearly the whole day. I went towrds the door and opened it and found a salesman at the doorstep. He wished me a good afternoon for which i replied by giving him a deceit smile. He started slurring about his products and also said my neighbours had bought it, and then i was sure this guy is lying as my neighbours were very miserly in nature. So i said to that schmuck that i was not interested and to come some days later. This is the thing thought to an child in india –how to get rid of salesman and not falling his for an y unrealistic offers. At about three i recieved a message from my friend at the college Neil saying” watch NDTV 24X7 now”. <br />I switched the channel and saw in the news that there was a tsunami at the eastern side of India and at Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia, and also that half of the Indonesia and Thailand had submerged under water killing a many people. The reason was said to be sudden melting of too many polar ice caps which was very shocking and no scientist ever was expecting such a thing. Livelihood of those countries were disrupted. And i am sure at tha moment the most shocked person on the earth would have been no one else but me i immediately ran to my room brought my lappy to the hall. I switched it on and opened my novel and started reading my novel again from the beginning. I read-<br />“It was just another hot morning of my vacations and i was totally bored , that morning i was totally alone at home as mom had to go out . ....................................................... ...................... i had my lunch and then again sat in front of tv. When suddenly some one knocked my door i went and saw through the keyhole and it was a salesman who was selling oxford dictionaries at just.................................................................................... later in the evening when i was sitting on my lappy , i recieved message from Arnab in which he said me to watch CNN IBN, I switched it............................................................<br />..................a tsunami had struck the south -eastern countries like Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and also some parts of India. Many people had died and the reason for the tsunami was the melting of polar ice caps.”<br />“I do not know what to do, what the fuck is happening, is this a dream, or what i predicted has really came true?, or all this is just a coincidence?”, such thoughts started coming in my mind. I really had no idea what was to be done, i sill could not believe what was happening. Silly thoughts like “i have supernatural powers?” also started coming into my brains. I was totally confused and nearly had started pulling hairs off my head. But then i thought i was just over-reacting. It was just a coincidence that happens with almost everyone some or the other time i turned off my laptop and kept on watching news. I was seeing people suffering and crying for help on the screen. The death toll was increasing slowly and i dont know why but i was feeling guilty, i was feeling i was the one responsible for their lives. It was an awful feeling i was having that time. I found me convincing myself that it was not my fault though i had done nothing. Mom, dad, bro everyone came home. They also after getting fresh switched on the television and were watching the hazard occurring. I did not want to see all that anymore so i decided to have my dinner as soon as possible and go and sleep. And that was the best thing to do at that time.<br /> <br />Next day morning, i got ready very soon took some money from my mom and told her i was going to meet my friend saumik who lived in a hostel. I rushed to the bus stop to catch the bus. In the bus i called saumik and told him not go out anywhere as i was coming to meet him. The reason for me to do so was that in the novel which was meant to be a fiction, i had written that the next day saumik dies ,as he meets with an accident. I thought that i would be with him the whole day and not let him go out anywhere and tell him what all happened yesterday and i did not want to take risk again with my best friend’s life. And doing this would also make me believe that whatever happened yesterday was a mere coincidence. Then i got down at the destined bus stop and as i was walking on d way i saw a big crowd , i crossed my fingers and ran towards the crowd and there lying down was my friend, saumik covered all over with blood. I went and took him in my arms and shouted- “i told you not to go anywhere no ?idiot!”<br />But he could listen to me no more. He died and i saw a packet of snacks in his hands and understood the whole story.<br />“ I was sitting next to him helpless, my friend died and i could not save him. I should have not come to meet him here , then nothing at all would have happened. Its all my fault.”,i remembered the lines of my novel.<br />TO BE CONTINUED...<br />
