- A bit of background. Been doing this for a while with lots of different things to think about and do. Part of that is about being an enthusiast…but
- Who’s got a smartphone/computer/tablet?
- So not just a bunch of geeks and nerds. Social media pervades all of us these days and much like the book is an integral part of both entertainment and education so social media is the same. They are not replacements - rather complimentary.
- Social media is vast and difficult to explain to complete novices but
- Much talk of demographics but perhaps not as different as you might think. This is public data and not doctors though. Docs early adopters of clinical technology. Late adopters of social media learning.
- Since the internet is full of cats there are easy guides to understanding what it’s all about.

- You will be familiar with this. Focus on the top left. The area of U/I As a trainee - how do you know this? As a consultant - how do you know this? What mechanisms do you have to deliver this blind spot to your practice?
- Engaging with the world is a painful experience as it opens up a real area of U/I Examples….. DSI, NODESAT, Cric techniques, Management of AC reversal
- Then - a global audience to engage with and explore how to move from incompetent to competent. Not just online learning resources but also debate and engagement with peers.
- FOAM flips the classroom. Either through specific media, or through the empowerment of colleagues to find their own learning and bring that to the workplace. Role of the educator is then not to teach from on high, rather it is to help learners organise, sift and appraise their knowledge.
