5. Counselor Responsibilities
 NBCC recommends that the standards and ethical codes be
reviewed as often as possible
 Counselors have to be aware of legal standards that may vary
by states
 Legal jurisdiction applicable to the counselor and the client
 Security of the communication with the client
 Local emergency or crisis resources
 Review confidentiality, duration of services, and potential
outcomes with clients
 Time differences
 Providing proper websites and links
 Support services for clients
 Assessments that are web based

 Although there are a number of advantages to providing
technology or internet counseling, the NBCC still warns
counselors that there has to be a constant evaluation of
services

 Clients not being completely conformable with utilizing
technology
 Dependence on the internet type of counseling
 lead to less personable interactions
 Validating identification of clients and/or counselors

 Expanding use of internet or technology counseling is in
rural communities
 Prominent in communities that are more spread out in
distance
 No local public transportation
 In the state of Texas is the tele-health project
happening in Galveston County
