August 2010, Mexico has had more than 30,000 people killed since the start of the war against
drug trafficking on December 2006. In the same way, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child
has expressed great concern over the killing of more than 1,000 minors during the past four years in
the Mexican military's war on drug cartels and organized crime. These statistics alarm nationally and
internationally, because of the mass violations of human rights that the Mexican war against drug

breathe, even though twelve minutes had passed since he was dead; however, when he orders
Reuben to come back to life, he says that in the name of God he must resuscitate. Reuben was not
destined to live, and because his father's choice went against what was supposed to happen, Reuben
must live an asthmatic life that limits what he is able to do. Ultimately, Enger portrays how all
decisions have consequences, and many times the results will not be the expected ones.
The conflict presented between Davy and the law depicts that people must take responsibility for
the consequences of their actions. Davy is Reuben's independent older brother. While only
seventeen years old, he always gives the appearance of an adult fully capable of caring for
himself. He has a mind of his own and does not want anybody telling him what to do. Davy's
independence seems to follow his dad's advice, which is shown at the end of the first chapter when
Jeremiah tells his children, "We and the world, my children will always be at war. Retreat is

wheat that he sows. Bread is often used to symbolize Jesus, especially in church during

Life can be viewed as a battle field, a constant fight between good and evil. In Leif Enger's Peace
Like a River, this scenario was well depicted. In the novel, there was a constant fight taking place
between the good and evil characters, and though based around family, love, and brotherhood, the
novel mainly focused on the conflict between these characters.
This student felt that it was fair to classify the Lands along with Roxanna Cowley, The Shultzs and

Davy felt that once he destroyed evil, everything would be settled and that his family could go on
like normal, but Davy had turned into a wanted individual; his family was left to battle even more
evil. Jeremiah had been working at Rueben and Swedes school as a janitor. After the two murders
Superintendent Holgren began to treat Jeremiah differently, as he allowed his opinion to determine
whether or not Jeremiah deserved the job. Holgren made work even more difficult and disagreed
with everything that Jeremiah did. Jeremiah, being the calm person that he was, never retaliated
with negative words. He allowed Holgren to mistreat him, even in front of the staff and students in
the school. Holgren finally resorted to firing Jeremiah in front of everyone, but Jeremiah simply
touched his face and walked away. "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men
to do nothing" (Budha).
Jeremiah did nothing but simply left things in God's hands. He allowed Holgren to make a fool out
of himself and surprisingly, he healed Holgren's face from those unsightly sores.

World peace is a topic chosen to prove that there is currently no possible way for us, humans, to
achieve peace between all the nations without us having to deal with current problems we have
now. The study of the topic has been quite hard, but fascinating as the research forehand has to lead
me to discover more unknown problems that are likely to be preventing us from world peace. With
evidence from credible articles, the paper determines that a solution to a war–free world without any
