1. Significant Events of Life
Significant Event The significant event of my life is about suicide attempt of my neighbour. It is
few years old story when I and he were class mates and used to go to school together. It was the
result day of 9th grade when he came across the news of his failure. I am not much sure about the
details of the event as it is an old event and the panic created at that moment did not enable me to
note the details. He and I had gone to school together and came across few other class mates
before reaching the notice board to see the result. My neighbour was a sensitive boy. The class
mates gave us the news of his failure, he was extremely shocked and in the same condition, he
jumped from the 3rd floor window of the school. He died at the spot. The news of his suicide
attempt was a shock for all who had made a joke of his failure. He had scored shining marks while
the class mates were enjoying his sensitivity. This event placed unforgettable impact upon my
personality and I gave up cracking any jokes with anybody. The wounded face and blood at the
road is still clear in my mind and whenever I think of joke, I feel terribly shaken. We all were in
much stress after this incident and it was really difficult to console the ones who had made this
joke. Few students were blaming them for this cruel act while others few were of the view that my
neighbour should not have committed suicide right away without even looking the notice board
himself. He was a close friend of mine and his sad

Significant Health Care Event Violet Sowell HCS/ 531 Feburary 4, 2013 Regina Phelps
Significant Health Care Event In the paper the topic to be discussed is a significant healthcare
event. There are many events that have an impact on healthcare. The significant event that will be
discussed in more detail is managed care. The main points to be discussed in further details are
how managed care relates to the changes in health care, has managed care impacted the historical
evolution of health care, and based on beliefs and values do I agree with managed care's
significance. To fully understand the significant health care event managed care first needs to be
defined. According to Shi, L., & Singh, D. (2012), "Managed care is a...show more content...
2). Different health providers are affected by the changes in managed care in one way or the
other. Managed Care's impact on Historical Evolution of Health Care I believe that that managed
care impacted the historical evolution of health care. When managed care was developed in the
United States the main purpose was to improve medical care outcomes as well as efficiency.
Westert, G. P., "During the second half of the twentieth century, managed care developed in the
United States as a mechanism for constraining the growth of health care costs by controlling the
delivery system" (2005). The federal government decided to offer managed care options through
Medicare because of the growing expenses that the elderly have to through Medicare. Westert,
"Reductions in health care utilization brought about by managed care in the western United States
have been adopted in other areas of the nation and the world" (2005). After the increase of
managed care through the 1980's and 1990's as well as the twentieth century managed care began
to decline. The association between the plans and the health care providers began to weaken in the
United States when dealing with managed care. Once managed care began rising in cost consumers
and providers decided to look elsewhere. Managed care began to change so that the health care
providers and consumers come back to use the plans. When managed care began to decline the

4. Significant Life Events
The most significant event in my life was when my little sister Emma was born. I remember the
day that my mom told me that she was having a baby, and that I was going to be an older brother.
I was in first grade, and she had just picked me up from school. As we were driving back home, my
mom very casually started talking. The conversation continued until she asked me if I had ever
wanted a little sibling. A little puzzled, I told her that I had always wanted a little brother. Then I
asked her why she wanted to know, which is when she told me that she was having a baby, and
the doctors thought it was going to be a girl. I sat there and tried to imagine what it was going to
be like to finally have a younger sibling. Then all at once I had an

5. Throughout the course of one's life, there are many life events and transitions, both normative and
unexpected that influence and shape the course of one's life and what leisure choices they make.
This can be applied to my own life timeline, as there are many events and leisure activities I can
think back on that shaped me into the person I am today. The purpose of this paper is to reflect on
my past and present lifestyle and experiences, and then analyze them using theories and models
existing in leisure studies. Leisure and recreation played a large role in my life growing up, and
from a young age my mother put a strong emphasis on being involved in community life to both
myself and my sisters. My parents were huge factors in my socialization into leisure and were very
involved in my leisure all growing up. Much of this leisure was very family–oriented such as
camping, and hiking. My mother made sure we spent as much time together as a family
outdoors; which as a result, created a substantial amount of family cohesiveness (West &
Marriam, 2009), creating strong bonds and a loving support system that I am still thankful for
today. However, when I was a teenager, my mother developed a chronic illness which disabled
her from being able to go camping or go on hikes for more than an hour or two. As well, my father
began to age and suffer from arthritis, a disease that creates severe joint pain in his back and like
many adults his age, serves as a constraint to leisure,

Significant Event I had put on extra deodorant for that long–awaited day.
I made sure the shoelaces on my new "Michael Jordan Pumps" were double knotted. The night
before, I even ironed my jersey making sure my last name, Yung, was visible. "Is everyone twelve
years old," I thought to myself as I looked up at my competition towering over me... and my dad. I
was on the verge of losing all confidence, I had no answer, my mind only registered an image of
giant twelve year olds running me over in the race for a spot on the city league basketball team.
But I had no time to doubt myself. Hadn't I practiced everyday after school until my body begged
me to stop? Even after my mom's ineffective attempts to get me to eat dinner, I...show more content...
"What am I supposed to do now," "I made the shots," "I completed all the drills," "I know I'm better
than that boy," all possible explanations, questions, and criticism flooded my mind and took with it
my confidence. Finally, one of the coaches took me in. Even though I found out Coach Jones
"picked" me because he had drawn the shortest straw, I promised myself I would not disappoint
him. The path to my dream was definitely going to be hard, being the last pick of the draft, I was
deemed a "loser" already and my teammates had no respect for me.
Amidst all the negative criticism I received from family and outsiders, telling me my "fantasy" to
become the first Chinese NBA player were impossible and that the game of basketball never had
Asians in mind, never once ended my love for the sport. As the first Asian player on the Winter
Haven High Boys Basketball team I had to work harder, prove myself more, and take a lot of
discrimination. Looking back, that city league basketball experience should have deterred me
from ever striving for my goals, instead it has made me stronger. I have since transformed from a
frightened little boy with no sense of dignity to an equal among my teammates and my peers. Like
Coach Grant always said before a game, "We're going to win because we have the only Chinese boy
playing basketball in Polk County." I can do anything. I'm going to win.

The significant event that occurred to me was my ninth birthday. The event was very special to
me because I am Muslim; and when a Muslim girl turns nine she wears the hijab. My mother
threw a big party for me; she made the party at the Mosque. My mother took me to the hairstylist
before going to my party. I was so happy getting my hair done because all my Muslim friends were
going to be at the party; and see how nice I look. Also, my mother dressed me up like a princess;
and in that time, I felt like a princess. When I was in the mosque all the attention was on me. I was
sitting in the front where all the people in the mosque can see me. I was so shy because I was not
use to all of the attention. A lady came standing beside and was talking...show more content...
When I started to wear the hijab, I was very excited and nerves about the hijab. The reason why I
was very excited to wear the hijab was because most of my Muslim friends were wearing the
hijab; and my mother always talks about the hijab. Also, I was very nerves to wear the hijab
because my school did not have many Muslim girls that wear the hijab. I told my dad to talk to
my teachers about my hijab; and I told my dad to tell the teacher to tell the students to not pick on
me, or bully me because of the hijab. I remember the first day I want to school with my hijab; I
was very afraid and anxious to go to school. I thought that my friends were not going to be my
friend because of my hijab. But, I was very shocked when I went to school because my teachers
were so supportive; and that I found out that my teacher talked to the students about my hijab
before I went to school. I was grateful about the kindness of the teacher. The students in my class
treated me the same way they always treat me, and my friends were very supportive. Also, my dad
showed up to my classroom with a cake. The classroom singed happy birthday to me, and took

career again, and a significant life event in my life was also when I had a baby in 2014. Although,
I have many life events in the past, when I had a baby and became a mother significantly shaped
my life because his presence in my life made me more focused on nursing degree. But, I was not
comfortable telling this to my husband. I can compare this part of my life to Walter Hansen in
the "The Undeclared Major" by Will Weaver. Walter did not know what he wants his major to be,
so he was keep changing his major, when he finally decides to be an English Major, he was scared
to tell his father (). I had no options beside sharing my feelings to my husband, so I told him
everything about my feelings towards the nursing career. Fortunately, he was
