2. 1. Companies like Uber, Lyft (one of Uber’s main competitors), and Airbnb (an
online marketplace that enables people to lease or rent short-term lodging) are
innovating in fields that traditionally have been very complex and regulated. Can
Uber’s business model be applied in other industries globally?
Yes, Uber’s business model can be applied in other industries globally because
of the global expansion Uber made by delivery desired services to customers in the
global market. Uber is a service that is made to be convenient and easily accessible to
help people who need services with travelling and commuting easier. If Uber is applied
globally the service and model can be replicated in other industries as well. Especially in
Canada we are a developed country where many people have access to a car
compared to people in other countries. This means that the success of applying Uber in
other countries may be even more successful since more people will need assistance
with travelling places. Overall, I think this would be a great idea and not only the global
industries benefit from this but also the customers.
2. Are cities around the world doing a disservice to their citizens or their visitors,
or both, by banning Uber outright from operating in their community?
Yes, cities around the world are doing a disservice to their citizens or their visitors
by banning Uber outright from operating in their community. As mentioned before Uber
is a well-known company that is widely used because of the convenience and affordable
pricing, but this means that local service providers are not happy because they are
losing business for their service. Due to this, the local service providers are not
favouring Uber’s service model as it is risking their business and making it for them to
make a successful career. People around the world enjoy Uber services and would
much rather pay for Uber than a Taxi because of how convenient it is; easily accessible,
can pay on mobile app for service, etc., and because of this they are protesting the
Uber services for themselves.

3. 3. Uber’s strategy has been to break these regulations, establishing its service
first, and then fighting attempts by regulators to shut the service down. This
goes along with the old saying that “do first, ask questions later.” Is this
business approach viable globally in the long run?
No this business approach is not globally viable because overall as time goes on,
it will negatively impact the brand image and in some countries they do not legally allow
this approach. Using this approach will not support customer oriented approach and so
it will be more difficult to sustain for long term customers. This ultimately leads to
consumers neglecting the brand which will lower the number of customers they receive
for the business, which overall lowers the success of the business. This business
approach is a big risk and it is not a good risk to take as if you do not have happy
customers then you will not be able to make sales and revenue for the company.
4. Discuss the factors that led to the emergence of Uber, a ride-for-hire service in
the global marketplace. Beyond rising costs and a shortage of taxi service in
many cities across the globe, how have changes in technology or the broader
economy driven many customers to seek rides outside the old-style taxi
industry?
Uber became the top choice for customers in a very short time because of how
easy it was for customers to access it in just one click on their mobile phones. Taxi
services started to drop but people still needed to find a way to get around if they did not
want to commute with bus or had no car. When Uber started to become more known in
the marketplace, technology made a huge impact on the reason to why it became a
positive impact for customers. The main reasons were, it beat competitor pricing, easy
access in one click without having to call the driver, easy access to pay on mobile
without the need for cash, easy access to make complaints, can easily change the route
or cancel the Uber. Basically these are all things that Uber can offer customers but
Taxi’s was not able to and in the world we live now people are always looking for the
easiest way to get the job done, hence why Uber is a big deal for customers. I do not
remember the last time I used a taxi because now with Uber calling a Taxi and having to
