We start the journey with our parents
for nurturing and first direction.
With rivals then we push and pull,
developing our skills and muscle.
Our idols help us dreams express.
Our allies bring them to creation.

16. Persona Theory - Highlights
Persona theory applies to team roles.
Persona awareness increases competence.
Having an avatar in virtual reality can increase
your persona awareness.
It can give you a third-person (“ESC”), versus
first-person (“M”), perspective on who you
consider yourself to be.
Reference:
Persona as mask - Greek theatre ca. 500 BCE
Persona as social face - Jung ca. 1950’s
Human beings inherently develop and present
multiple personas.
Personas are points of view. They are
internally-maintained models of who we
consider ourselves, and others, to be.
Who we consider ourselves and others to be is
an ongoing process, not a one-time event.
Honesty or dishonesty arises in how we use our
core (primary) and alternative (sub) persona
sets for ourselves and others.

17. Human beings are capable of, and regularly
practice, presenting themselves as different
personalities tailored to circumstances.
Yes there is a “core” persona of “who you
consider yourself to be.” Over time we learn to
parse our core into selected “sub” personas.
We have more than one persona because we
have multiple audiences to deal with, and
multiple purposes in dealing with them.
You are capable of maintaining 2-3 personas to
help fulfill the requirements of the 9 team roles.
Persona Theory & Team Roles
Some of these team roles are already in place
for each of you. Some would have to be added
based on interest and need.
Important personas to have in your skill set are
coordinator and shaper. If you operate primarily
as an introvert, adding the ability to go “extrovert
on demand” will be remarkably beneficial.
If you operate primarily as an extrovert, adding
the ability to encourage others to speak up and
contribute, besides yourself, will pay off
handsomely.

19. Human Social Size Theory - Highlights
We hold cognitive models of others in our mind,
to guide our interactions with them.
There are limits to how many of these mental
models we can maintain, based on complexity
and quantity.
Models for people close to us take more “social
time” capacity. We can only have fewer of these.
Models for people not so close to us take less
capacity. We can have more of these.
For example:
5 - loved ones
15 - good friends
50 - friends
150 - meaningful contacts (Dunbar’s Number)
500 - acquaintances
1500 - people you can recognize
Human social size and persona theory are
linked: we maintain mental models of ourselves,
as well as others, to guide our behavior.

Neocortex capacity - Dunbar ca. 1990’s
Intentionality - Brentano ca. 1870’s
