Student groups are created. Students discuss THINK PUZZLE EXPLORE Lesson 2: Face-to-face and Online The teacher models accessing Edstudio and contributing to a discussion thread. Students access Edstudio and contribute to discussion thread. Students contribute to a discussion about the purpose of classroom rules. Classroom rules are provided as discussion thread headings within each group’s Edstudio page. Students respond to teacher questions but also to questions posed within the discussion thread by other students within their group. Students view other groups reponses then return to their own page to discuss what they have learned – HEADINGS Agree, Disagree, Interesting Debate Question Monitor Respond Interpret Respond Question Explain Describe Justify Reflect Internet access Secure online space –An EdStudio within the Learning Place. Discussion thread with each classroom rule as a heading. Response to other group discussion thread. Groups may have computer access on rotational basis and contribute to the discussion over a period of two weeks. Students work in groups to write questions. Students access webconferencing software as a whole class to discuss rules with students from another geographical location. Students compose rules for a specific location within the school. This will be initially be done face to face using paper and coloured pens. The resulting rules will be posted to the group’s Edstudio page for reflection and review by students in the group and viewing/comments by students from other groups. Students will return to their rules to refine and improve them. Discussion thread Expected time frame : 2 lessons Lesson 1: Face-to-face Students write all rules and ideas onto coloured paper. They then group these into categories and write the first draft of their rules. Lesson 2: Online Students post their draft rules to their groups EdStudio page/discussion thread. They receive feedback from other students and the teacher. Students then modify their rules. Asynchronous online communication may occur over the course of the week as students view and add to discussions. Asnychronous contributions within the EdStudio supports reflection
- 3. and encourages all students to contribute , especially those quieter students who may not be confident to speak during the face-to-face lesson. Viewing and reviewing their own and other group’s work supports all groups to learn from others and make improvements to their intial set of rules. Design a multimedia presentation to communicate rules to the school community and wider audience. Expected time frame : 7-8 lessons This phase of the unit will require the greatest time to complete. In this phase students are given opportunities to choose technologies and presentation methods that they feel communicate their ideas most effectively. Student groups reflect on the unit the extent to which they have met unit goals expressed at the beginning of the unit. Reflection scaffold :Return to Think Puzzle Explore page and revise. PMI ( Plus , Minus, Interesting) Metalearns Question Discuss Review Reflect Assess evaluate Internet access Secure online space –An EdStudio within the Learning Place. Private page for each student Discussion thread Expected time frame: 1 hour does not need to be done as a class. During this phase student work is uploaded to the school’s website and feedback is sought from the school community. A link to the students work is shared with the students from the
