1. Towards the EISB Landscape Identification and Action Plan Dr. Sotiris Koussouris NTUA National Technical University of Athens skous@epu.ntua.gr Workshop on “Future Internet Enterprise Systems”, ICE Conference 2011, Aachen, Germany, 22/06/2011
2. Agenda What is EI? EI Scientific Areas What is the EISB EISB Waves and Action Plan Open Deliberation + Wiki "Future Internet Enterprise Systems" Workshop, Aachen, June 22nd, 2011
3. Context Future Internet revolutionizes the rules of the game in the European economy New opportunities for innovation, collaboration and revenue generation open up for Enterprises(especially SMEs) Enterprise Interoperability (EI) has been a thriving applied research domain during the last years Yet, the scientific foundations that would permit its generalization and complete reuse, have not been established "Future Internet Enterprise Systems" Workshop, Aachen, June 22nd, 2011
5. What is EI Many Definitions throught the years…… Various Classifications in Interoperability Layers….. No consensus reached and often the various layers are interconnected among themselves….. We define that: “Enterprise Interoperability is perceived as a capacity of two or more enterprises, including all the systems within their boundaries and the external systems that they utilize or are affected by, in order to cooperate seamlessly, in an automated manner, in depth of time for a common objective.” "Future Internet Enterprise Systems" Workshop, Aachen, June 22nd, 2011
6. Methodology for EISB DefinitionandSoTAReview "Future Internet Enterprise Systems" Workshop, Aachen, June 22nd, 2011
7. Structuring the EI Scientific Areas For a proper structure for Enterprise Interoperability, one has to focus on the real object of observation The “Enterprise”…. “…an organization designed to provide goods, services, or both to consumers...” Infrastructures referring to all the facilities and non-human assets Data used for the business transactions within and outside the boundaries of the enterprise. Processes including all the related, structured activities or tasks that produce a specific service or product. Policies embracing the different rules that are applied either due to external or internal factors People with all the human resources that are part of an enterprise system. "Future Internet Enterprise Systems" Workshop, Aachen, June 22nd, 2011
8. "Future Internet Enterprise Systems" Workshop, Aachen, June 22nd, 2011 Enterprise Interoperability Areas 12 areas 4 Granularity Level Promote more focused and concrete research attempts, as they belong to a smaller abstraction level of that of the fundamental interoperability layers adapted by EIF
9. Matching the Scientific Areas to the 4 Layers of EI "Future Internet Enterprise Systems" Workshop, Aachen, June 22nd, 2011
10. Classifying the Work Performed in EI "Future Internet Enterprise Systems" Workshop, Aachen, June 22nd, 2011
11. EISΒ - Objective To document and catalogue domain knowledge To identify application areas for domain knowledge items To identify approaches for application To identify domain related problems currently not resolved or addressed in the knowledge base, and which should be prioritised for research To identify related problems addressed in other sciences, directing attention to the appropriate knowledge in the addressing domain. To support application of EI knowledge by clearly documenting the route from domain problems to domain solution approaches To identify, structure and document fundamental axioms and consequent theorems of interoperability, to form the foundation for establishment of EI as a new and self-standing science. Without such an EISB there is danger of repeating research, and missing opportunities for application!! "Future Internet Enterprise Systems" Workshop, Aachen, June 22nd, 2011
12. Setting the Foundations for a new Science From the EI landscape and the neighbouring sciences paradigms To.. an Action Plan elaborating or even redefining the 3 high-level Waves "Future Internet Enterprise Systems" Workshop, Aachen, June 22nd, 2011
