3. I’VE FOUND A JOB, BUT SOME OTHER JOBS LOOK
BETTER! WHAT DO I DO?
• It is necessary to adjust to the harsh realities of the job marketplace. Knowledge of the job takes years
to accumulate. If you start afresh, you will be very behind other people.
• You can start your own projects in your spare time.
• You can get promoted in your existing job.
• You can learn about other aspects of the business you are contributing to.
• The general rule is, if you have found somewhere you can get money from, by all means stay there.

4. HOW DO YOU STAY IN A JOB?

other people

you have
control over.
Develop your
personality.
Develop new
skills.
Accumulate

knowledge.
Think about

5. WHAT DO I STUDY AT UNIVERSITY? IS IT NECESSARY
TO GO THERE?
• Study the best subject at University that your grades can get you into.
• Prefer the sciences over the arts, as they tend to be the richer disciplines.
• University buys you more time for you to develop. However, this development you should expect to do
yourself and not from merely listening to your teachers.
• Even if you have not been to University, you should expect to be able to follow what goes on in there.
Try looking at a few OpenCourseWare websites to see whether it fazes you or not.

6. USING INTUITION TO GUIDE YOU IN A JOB
• It is more likely that you will succeed in staying in your job if you get a good feeling from it.
• Notice when you get a good feeling from your job, when you get excited about your job, and aim to feel
like this every day.
• If inside you feel like you are not up to scratch, this may lead to burn-out.
• It is not necessary to work around the clock, even if you feel certain this will help. Leave some time to
naturally self-reflect, as this may be more productive.

7. WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I LOSE MY JOB?
Staying in your field
Prepare for loss of reputation and
look for ways you can counter this.
Read around your field.
Self-reflect on how you can improve
on your past performance.
