Three Stages Of Play By Sara Smilansky
Sara Smilansky Physical/Manipulative
Smilansky developed three stages of play. She was initially working together with Jean Piaget, but
they went separate ways, so she expanded on it and developed these theories to: functional play,
constructive play, dramatic play. The best description of Smilansky s functional play is when, babies
are throwing their toys out of the cot time after another, or are banging their spoon on the table for
hours non stop, and this is actually a way of them showing that they re playing. Adults and Teenagers
also use functional play when confronted with a new object or activity to explore. Once they have
mastered the objects or activity then they start to really play.
Symbolic play is when the child can use an object ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Evidence of onlooker play is when a child or children are near a group of other children and begin to
follow the actions or copying what they are doing while playing.
Parallel play This is commonly found in toddler years and sometimes into the earlier years of
preschool. Children will now be able tolerate other children standing near them when playing and
occasionally when they re using the same equipment. However, they will have a limited amount of
meaningful interactions with other children.
Associative play This is first seen usually in the early preschool years. Children will begin to play and
talk with each other in dramatic play situations where roles may be taken on. Even if these roles are
usually not sustained for any length of time.
Cooperative play Cooperative play occurs in the later preschool years. Children are able to take on
roles and sustain them for the duration of the play. The group of children have agreed upon goals and
roles for the play. In this stage of play, leaders and followers emerge within groups. Roles are
delegated and tasks distributed within the group. There is a common goal and children will play
together in a more complex

Personality Analysis of Charles Manson
PERSONALITY ANALYSIS OF CHARLES MANSON Introduction Manson is a convicted serial
killer who has become an icon of evil. In the late 1960s, Manson founded a hippie cult group known
as the Family whom he manipulated into brutally killing others on his behalf. Helter Skelter, Manson
believed, was going to occur in the summer of 1969 when blacks were going to rise up and slaughter
all the white people. He told his followers that they would be saved because they would go
underground, literally, by traveling to an underground city of gold located in Death Valley. However,
when the Armageddon that Manson had predicted did not occur, he said he and his followers must
show the blacks how to do it. The reason why I chose Manson for my ... Show more content on

He then received a 10 year suspended sentence for attempting to cash a stolen check. During this time
he married another girl before being arrested again in 1960 for crossing state lines for prostitution. His
sentence this time was for 7 years at McNeil Island Penitentiary in Washington and then was
transferred back to Terminal Island in California. During this time, his wife divorced him after giving
birth to his second son named Charles Luther Manson Jr. He spent his prison time learning to play
guitar and studied Scientology. After being released in 1967, he traveled to San Francisco. There he
met a woman named Mary Brunner and moved into her apartment. She soon fell in love with Manson
and he used that to manipulate her into sleeping around with multiple women. She eventually lost her
job at UC Berkeley, fell deep into drug use, and began travelling with Manson. Mary Brunner became
an important part in his development of the Manson Family . Lynette Fromme was the first to join the
family. The three lived together on the streets of San Francisco while Manson mentored and
prophesized his ideas to the girls. His childhood manipulative tendencies helped fuel his status as a
prophet. In 1968 after time spent travelling, the group ended up living in Chatsworth, California on
Spahn Ranch. Here Brunner gave birth to his third son named Valentine Manson. Manson wanted a
son to carry on his legacy and planned to have many more. Manson was an

Uncertainty Reduction Theory
Jonathan Quinones
Literature Review Paper
Comm 306
Uncertainty Reduction Theory Uncertainty is an unpleasant feeling and because of this feeling, people
are motivated to reduce this uncertainty by means of communication. Uncertainty reduction theory
(URT) was developed to describe the interrelationships in any type of communication exchange using
seven factors: verbal communication, nonverbal expressiveness, information seeking behavior,
intimacy, reciprocity, similarity, and liking (Berger Calabrese, 1975). During the beginning stage
information about ones sex, age, socio economic status, along with other demographic information
can be obtained. The exchange of information during this beginning stage of communication is usually

Uncertainty reduction within an instructional context is something that as not been researched
extensively, and because teacher student relations is considered to be a type of interpersonal
relationship, it seems warranted that a study in terms of proactive attributions and uncertainty in their
relationship be conducted. Communication satisfaction is an affective response to the accomplishment
of communication goals and expectations, and results when positive expectations are fulfilled, yet is
dependent on whatever expectations individuals have about an interaction (Goodboy Myers, 2007).
With the use of certain axioms in URT such as similarity/homophily, the sharing of attitudes, beliefs,
background, demographics, and physical attributes. The 7th axiom in URT which is Liking, one of the
most common desires of individuals is the need to be liked. Berger and Calabrese (1975) propose:
increases in uncertainty level produce decreases in liking; decreases in uncertainty level produce
increases in liking . The method of this experiment included 147 participants who were undergraduate
students both men and women ranging from ages 18 to 23. Participants completed a survey assessing
their attributional confidence of their instructor from a previous class they attended, using an

Essay On As Our Jobs Guaranteed Basic Income
Technology will forever be the next big thing. Robots are starting to take over people s jobs. If robots
start to take over jobs then what would people do to earn money in a short notice? In the article As
Our Jobs Are Automated, Some Say We ll Need a Guaranteed Basic Income it states that people will
not have to worry about starving or going without shelter because the government will give a $10,000
universal income to each person. Suppose we advanced in technology to the point where machines
could take care of anything we want. Would we need jobs? With all of the technologic changes going
on in our world we will always need jobs. In the article states, And then there s Uber, which is
experimenting with driverless taxis and trucks. That would affect approximately 3.5 million truck
drivers, and 5 million people who support the truck driving industry. Selfless driving sounds pretty
great but there is no way that could ever happen. Even the most advanced cars will not know what the
other drivers are thinking. The only way selfless driving could ever come to highway is if everybody
owned a car that had the ability to know what other cars are going to do. There will be jobs for truck
drivers, jobs in the medial field, and jobs making the robots. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

We would have more people that don t feel the need to go to school and get an education because they
know they can just get money sitting on their couch watching tv. A lot of citizens work for what they
have, they go to college and make something of their selves, why can t everybody do that? On the
contrary, a basic income will help the people who truly need the money to help them get back up on
their feet. I do not agree with the $10,000 income if it will be coming out of my paycheck. I don t
think its right to make up pay for people who don t want to work. Again, I think if people have the

Global Climate Change And Creating A Sustainable Energy...
Energy efficiency is a key step in reducing our impact on global climate change and creating a
sustainable energy future. Electricity production is the number one source of greenhouse gases and the
leading cause of industrial air pollution in the United States. Most of our electricity comes from coal,
nuclear, and other non renewable power plants. Producing energy from these types of sources takes a
severe toll on the environment by polluting the air, land, and water supply. In order to stop polluting
the atmosphere and the environment around us, we must take action and implement the use of
renewable resources into our electricity grid and overall economy. Renewable energy can be used to
produce electricity with less environmental impacts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Power plants that use coal leak toxic metals into local groundwater and produce a lot of additional
waste. Gasoline that is burned in combustion engines emits large amounts of carbon dioxide into the
atmosphere thus contributing to climate change. Natural Gas is mostly made up of methane, which is a
lot more effective at trapping heat than carbon dioxide, making it more problematic as a greenhouse
gas (What Are Non, 2013). There are also the impacts of nonrenewable resources in terms of health
risks for individuals living across the globe. Uranium, which is used in nuclear power plants, can
cause numerous health issues. Including, major birth defects and abnormal heart, liver and kidney
functions with overexposure (What Are Non, 2013). Also, coal miners that inhale dust can contract
black lung disease, which kills around 4,000 miners per year in the United States. Finally, there is the
issue of supply and demand as they are nonrenewable resources; once they are gone there is no way to
create new ones. Thus, they are more and more expensive as they are used. Due to this and the price
increase, the technologies that we use to make our lives easier will become useless if the fuel that is
used to power them ceases to exist. If alternatives are not pursued and perfected, a shortage would
result in chaos.
However, in order to achieve the switch from nonrenewable resources to renewable resources, it is
important to understand what it is. Renewable energy is energy

Foot And Mouth Research Paper
FOOT AND MOUTH: CATTLE
Key Facts
Foot and Mouth (FMD) is recognized as a highly contagious viral disease which affects cloven
hooved animals, such as cattle (Bos Taurus) (Grubman and Baxt, 2004).
The mortality rate is very low as affected animals can recover from the disease, however, due to the
loss of production and infectious state of the disease, infected animals are usually culled.
The outbreak of FMD in the United Kingdom in 2001 caused the destruction of about 6 million
animals from 9,515 farms and losses of £8 million. It then spread to Ireland, the Netherlands and
France.
Aetiology
Aphthovirus is the virus that causes FMD.
Epidemiology
FMD is spread by direct and indirect contact with infected substances, mechanical vectors ... Show

It can also survive 14 days in dry faecal matter, 39 days in urine and up to 28 days in soil.
After infection with the FMD virus, the average incubation period in cattle is 2 14 days. The
incubation period of FMD can vary and is highly dependent on the environment, host, virus strain and
the way in which the individual got infected (e.g. inhalation or ingestion).
Diagnosis
Symptoms of FMD include:
Drop in milk production and blisters on teats
Lameness or difficulty walking due to blisters on feet
Significant increase in body temperature for 3 consecutive days
Vesicles that discharge clear or cloudy fluid
Sticky and foamy saliva
Weight loss/anorexia due to painful tongue and mouth blisters
Abortions
Heart disease and sudden death
In cattle, the clinical signs of the disease are easily confused with the symptoms of vesicular stomatitis
(Alexandersen, Zhang, Donaldson and Garland, 2003). Therefore, laboratory testing is essential for
diagnosis. Bodily fluids are taken for testing. If no vesicles can be found, fluid can be collected by
pharyngeal swabbing for virus isolation or reverse transcription PCR. Serum (blood) samples may
also be tested this way (OIE Terrestrial Manual,

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are on the verge of separation as the couple is leading separate lives.
However, it looks like they do not want to feed the gossip mills and therefore, put up a united front at

It would not be surprising at all if they issue a joint statement about their divorce. Notably, rumors of
trouble between the couple have been around for a while but they picked up steam in the recent past as
Keith and Nicole were not seen together despite having opportunities to hang out together.
Speaking of hangout, the couple was spotted together at the InStyle Awards function held in Los
Angeles on Oct. 24, reports Bill Board. They also seemed to be happy in each other s company as they
hugged and Urban gave Kidman a back rub while talking to actresses Laura Dern and Isla Fisher.
They spent much of the time holding hands but given the fact that they arrived separately, many feel
that it was just pretence.
Also, a week back, it had come to the light that Urban was into Scientology in his earlier days and hid
this fact from Kidman. She is alleged to have got wind of the same and is now furious that he
concealed such a big secret from her, knowing fully well how much she detests the controversial
religion.
It may be mentioned here that her ex husband Tom Cruise is an ardent follower of Scientology and the
religion is said to have played a big role in her fallout with

A Long Day s Journey Into Night The Mother
Families are expected to support each other through the worst of times. But in A Long Day s Journey
into Night the mother, Mary, struggles with an addiction to morphine and the only empathy she
receives is from her youngest son, Edmund. Edmund is ill with Tuberculosis and he understands his
mother more than his brother, Jamie, and father, James. Mary s older son, Jamie, and her husband did
want her to conquer her addiction but they act as if she should be able to beat her addiction within
minutes. Edmund on the other hand tries to show her compassion and let her take her time. Jamie and
James are always watching Mary and Edmund to make sure Mary doesn t fall back into her morphine
addiction and that Edmund doesn t cause himself to become sicker by drinking alcohol. The constant
feeling of being observed causes both Mary and Edmund to find their own home in the fog. The fog
was a shield to them that made them feel safer and more relaxed. There is something about their
illnesses that allows Edmund to feel a sense of affinity for his mother. The compassion Edmund shows
Mary is unique because he can relate to everything that she is going through and the leniency
encourages Mary to overcome her addiction. Robert the author of the article The Eugene O Neill
Newsletter says Edmund has a, romantic vison of his mother... (n.p.). This vision is contrasting to his
brother s and father s view of Mary. Edmund s vision allows him to be aware of what his mother is
going through and that

What Does Descartes Error Mean
Anthony Damasio s: Descartes Error: Emotion, Reason, and the Human Brain introduces the reader to
the interesting world of emotions. Before reading this book, one probably did not pay much attention
to the science and philosophy behind emotion. In fact, few people would likely be able to properly
describe and define emotion. Damasio, though, demonstrates that emotions are central to the life
regulating processes of almost all living creatures. Damásio presents the somatic marker hypothesis a
proposed mechanism by which emotions guide behavior and decision making, and positing that
rationality requires emotional input. He argues that Rene Descartes error was the dualist separation of
mind and body, rationality and emotion.
To begin the book, Damasio explains the differences between feeling and emotion. Feeling is then

Elliot is a construction worker who suffers severe head trauma following a horrific accident. Though
Eliot has seemingly recovered, he is unable to reason or think critically. Elliot is unable to plan ahead;
he only devotes his mind to trivial follies and cannot look at the big picture of life. Damasio then notes
that Eliot s psychologist recommended psychotherapy, not making the connection between brain
damage and personality change. He notes stigma attached to mental illness. What is so shocking to
Damasio is that many of Eliot s cognitive functions remained untouched. So Damasio wonders
whether social reasoning is different from abstract reasoning. Next, Damasio notes Eliot s lack of
affect, which is found when Eliot demonstrates no emotional reaction to disturbing pictures. Yet, Eliot
retained a conceptual understanding of social conventions. He could also generate options, assign
consequences, match means to ends, predict consequences, and he was mature on a developmental
scale of moral reasoning. Despite this normalcy, Eliot was still unable to make wise

How Did Akhenaten Change Egyptian Religion
Akhenaten was an Egyptian king during the New Kingdom and he tried to change the Egyptian
religion. In the readings the document titled The Great Hymn to the Aten describes why king
Akhenaten tried to change the ancient religion, and why this ended up being very important later on.
What he tried to do was change the Egyptian religion by introducing something similar to
monotheism. Though the main reason for this significant change was, according to the readings, He
ordered this change to downgrade the influence of the rich priests of Amen Re, the local deity from
Thebes who rose to national prominence in the New Kingdom and became Re (the sun god)
(Readings, p.23). So he basically did this because of rich priests from Thebes s growing influence ...

Who Is Friar Lawrence To Blame
Bittersweet Destinies Have you ever been blamed for something you didn t know would happen? The
play, Romeo and Juliet, was written by William Shakespeare. It was a tragic love story of two star
crossed lovers who struggled to keep their affair a secret from their families. I believe Friar Lawrence
is to blame for the death of Romeo and Juliet because of the ideas and advice he gives to them. If the
ideas of the Friar were more planned out and better thought out, the play could have ended happily,
but alas, it doesn t. Friar Lawrence is to blame because, he agrees to marry them, but this could lead to
their own destruction. Friar marries Romeo and Juliet because he wants the feud to end. He doesn t
say it specifically to anyone but the text ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Near the end of the play, Friar comes up with an idea to get Romeo and Juliet back together. With
Romeo being banished to Mantua, he writes him a letter to explain what will happen and where it will
take place. He then gives this letter to Friar John, who is supposed to deliver the letter, but it is later
found out that he was held in quarantine and was unable to deliver it. While this is taking place, Friar
Lawrence gives Juliet a vile and tells her to drink it, saying that it will put her in a death like state for
48 hours. Once she is found dead she will be laid in the family tomb. Once the 48 hours are up, she
will awaken and Romeo was supposed to come and take her somewhere safe where they can be
together. This plan backfired when Romeo didn t receive the Friar s letter and took matters into his
own hands when Balthazar tells him Juliet is dead. Because Balthazar believes Juliet is truly dead,
Romeo believes that this is the news that was supposed to come from the Friar. Romeo then paid for a
bottle of poison that he will drink when he lies next to Juliet. If Friar s plan would have succeeded,
they would be together and they could work out a plan to keep them both safe and end the family feud.

Favorite Movie Assignment
For this assignment, I have chosen to pick one of my favorite movies called Star Wars episode 3
Revenge of the Sith. Because I am a huge fan of the whole Star Wars series, but this specific movie, I
have seen several times and it is my favorite out of all the movies included in the franchise. Before I
took this class, I thought this movie was phenomenal, I loved the way it was put together, the whole
story was interesting, it stood out from different movies because of its creative and unique concept of
the science fiction, adventure, action, romance, and fantasy genres. When I first saw this movie, I was
truly intrigued and didn t lose interest in any part throughout the film, it fascinated me. After I had
took this theater class though, and after analyzing several different movies, I looked back at the movie,
I realized that all the terminology and content that I have learned throughout the course wasn t put to
mind because I didn t pay attention to it really because I didn t even know the names of the terms that
I learned in class and the insights of how this film was put together, I was more focused on what was
happening in the story. After I took this class, I have changed my response to this film because when I
analyze this movie, I now have a deeper understanding of what goes on in this movie, I know this
because I think of how different scenes in the movie add to the story/narrative, and how some
characters are affected and how it adds to the story, I know what kind

Racial Tension And Police Brutality
Racial tension and police brutality are the most controversial topics in the United States today. As a
society, we never really know what to do with racism. The increase tensions between the African
American community and Caucasian community has been at an ultimate high recently. The
contemporary events in places such as Missouri, Florida, Chicago, etc. have highlighted the
seriousness of these issues.
In Ferguson, Missouri, 18 year old African American male Michael Brown was shot and killed by
police officer Darren Wilson. The incident involving Brown created a critical environment in
Ferguson and became a dangerous and controversial time in America. The events following the initial
incident impacted Missouri significantly. Following this incident, a ripple effect of police brutality
incidents took place. The question Is the law is really doing their job and protecting us? Was created.
The issue of police brutality is a significant issue within America today. I strongly think that this issue
is an important issue because as civilians, individuals should feel protected by their law system and
officers. But also, police officers should not be anxious to arrest individuals and/or patrol communities
because of tensions created within the community. Specifically, since Michael Brown s death police
officers become apprehensive to do their job because of the split between civilians and the police force
during this time. One incident that created fear, anxiousness, and anger

61,125,956 (47%). However, in contrast to earlier predictions, some states elected to Trump instead of
Clinton, and this result brought victory for Trump in the last hours of election day. In details, Trump

There is a great deal of speculation but no clear answers as to the cause of the disconnect, but there is
one point of agreement: Across the board, polls underestimated Trump s level of support. , said
Andrew Mercer, Claudia Deane and Kyley McGeeney authors on their article Why 2016 election polls
missed their mark in Pew Research Center. They also gave some several possible explanations for the
misstep. The first factor might be what pollsters refer to as nonresponse bias. Some groups, include
the less educated voters who were a key demographic for Trump on Election Day, are consistently
hard for pollsters to reach. Then, the result would be a strongly pro Trump segment of the population
that simply did not show up in the polls in proportion to their actual share of the population. The next
factor was many of those who were polled simply were not honest about whom they intended to vote
for. The explanation for this factor was support for Trump was socially undesirable, and that his
supporters were unwilling to admit their support to pollsters . In 1982, a similar case occurred in the
gubernatorial election in California. Democrat Tom Bradley, the black mayor of Los Angeles, lost to
Republican George Deukmejian despite having been ahead in the polls even though the voters were
reluctant to tell interviewers that they were not going to vote for a black candidate. The third factor
involves the way pollsters identify likely voters. Because we can t know in advance who is actually
going to vote, pollsters develop models predicting who is going to vote and what the electorate will
look like on Election Day. This is a notoriously difficult task, and small differences in assumptions can
produce sizable differences in election

Persuasive Essay On Minimum Wage
The United States of America has often times been described as the land of opportunity, where a
person can come to America with nothing but a dream, and make those dreams possible. With hard
work, determination, and a plan, there are no limitations to the amount of success a person can
achieve. Due to America s economic growth, top colleges and universities, and the freedom the US
allows its citizens, upward mobility is always possible. While most people strive for success, often
times they forget that the road to claiming success will not be easy. When first looking for jobs with
no work experience or trade, entry level positions such as, customer service, restaurant/food services
industry, custodian work, housekeeping, etc. will be the positions that person will be most qualified
for. Most of these jobs will start paying at minimum wage, which is legally the lowest wage per hour
that an employer can pay its employees. Today the federal minimum wage is $7.25, and has been at
this wage since 2009. While many states have a higher minimum wage than what is regulated
federally, it is a very controversial topic in the United States of America. According to the Bureau of
Labor Statics, ...Among those paid by the hour, 870,000 workers earned exactly the prevailing federal
minimum wage of $7.25 per hour . Due to the federal minimum wage being so low many people
began to question if minimum wage was ethical. While the current federal minimum wage is not a

Slavoj Zizek Essay
In The Pervert s Guide to Ideology, Slavoj Zizek explains his analytical theories about the ideology
behind multiple films. His most radical ideological explanation seems to be the one regarding
Scorsese s The Last Temptation of Jesus Christ. When Zizek embarks on the mission to explain to the
viewer what the theories behind the film are, he shows some of the most gruesome and emotional
scenes of the film. However, although his theories seem almost too complex to understand, they play a
role in exploring the fine line between Christianity and Atheism. Now, one might be questioning if the
line between these two counterparts is even fine, but Zizek clearly draws for the viewer the thinnest
line possible as they try to follow the complex path of his argument of what the film truly ... Show

Yet, despite his explanations, Zizek enters into a paradoxical realm of religious beliefs that becomes
more confusing as the film progresses. What does Zizek mean when he claims that Christianity is
more atheist than Atheism? Can something be more related to its counterpart than the counterpart
itself? Such a question can only be explored by examining the progression of Zizek s argument. For
Zizek, such a question is true when applied to the Christianity displayed in the film. If Atheism is the
disbelief in God, then the Christianity in the film is inherently more Atheist because it completely
disintegrates God, the Big Other.
The film begins the process of revealing Christianity s Atheist characteristics with the idea of hysteria.
Slavoj Zizek proposes the idea of hysteria playing a role in the life of Jesus Christ. He defines hysteria
as the way we question our social, symbolic identity. He begins analyzing his own definition by
explaining how it plays a role in the character of Jesus Christ in the film The Last Temptation of
Christ. Zizek also explores different dimensions of the word as he attaches it to

Native American Pipeline Research Paper
It is widely known that for centuries Native Americans have been oppressed, used and discriminated
against. A sort of hatred towards our government and our people transpires among the Natives, and
rightfully so. There are many reasons for the Natives to feel exploited, yet protesting the pipeline and
fighting back to the American political system can give Natives a feeling of triumph and
accomplishment if they are able to successfully halt the construction of the pipeline. Murdoch
specifically states that the last time Native Americans gathered and the nation notices was in 1973

Essay on Water Long Hr Case Study
The performance of the Nuclear Tube Assembly Room has been significantly improved by Walter
Long s method of highly motivating his workers. The recommendations laid out in the Process
Engineer Proposal (PEP) will damage both the workers morale and Mr. Long s current success in the
NTAR. In order to successfully start the LDTC and maintain the improved performance of the NTAR,
I recommend the PEP be rejected and your company create a new proposal that (1) limits Harold

Autonomy
Workers chose jobs that were most suitable for their skillset and simultaneously satisfied the
preferences and needs of the department. The room applied flexible scheduling and Mr. Long
decentralized decision making so that workers were free to choose how and when to do their tasks.
There were no supervisors in the room. Workers performances did not vary when the managers
appeared or not. They experienced responsibility for outcomes of their work.
Feedback
Mr. Long utilized employee evaluation sheets to give periodic reviews to his workers. He was always
careful and insistent that workers were given credit for everything they did. There exists a mutual
respect and trust between Mr. Long and workers so that workers never hide their mistakes from him. It
was the credits and rewards, rather than Mr. Long himself, that drove workers to get more done or
advance their knowledge and skills.
In total, all the core job dimensions led to both personal and corporate victories. The group enjoyed
high levels of job fulfillment and satisfaction with labor. They had high internal work motivation, high

How Did Gordon Wood Characterize The American Revolution
1. Historians of the American Revolution have disagreed on whether to characterize the revolution as
radical or Conservative. Compare and contrast the arguments of Bernard Bailyn and Gordon Wood
and make and build an argument for which interpretation is most convincing.
Many historians throughout the history of our young nation have debated whether to characterize the
American Revolution as radical or conservative, and the argument still continues to this day. Both
arguments have points that are valid and convincing. The book the radicalism of the American
Revolution written by Gordon wood, and the book the ideological origins of the American Revolution
by Bernard bailyn are two examples of this argument. Gordon wood argues that the American
Revolution was much more than a fight for American independence, but rather a radical sudden move
that not only changed the political ideology of the colonies, but that also had a great social impact on
how people lived and thought of themselves as members of society and where the entire way of life

Leadership Is A Contact Sport
Group Summary_Forum10
Introduction
Leadership is a contact sport. As with any sport skills, best practices, and preparation are on constant
display for both teammates and competitors to see. Leaders must hone specific characteristics and
traits that give them the ability to earn the respect of those who would follow. In this paper the traits of
courage, integrity, and growth will be expressed as important concepts in the development and
maintenance of a leader.
Group Consensus
The three topics chosen were all considered important to the group members. With courage and
integrity the two traits tend to go hand in hand. A leader with integrity will gain the trust of his or her
followership while courage will inspire them and lead change. Dees describes the concepts of integrity
and courage an essence of leadership and a unifying factor in all aspects of a leader s life. (Dees,
2013) The third concept of growth and learning express the maintenance a leader must exemplify in
their own personal journey. With growth and learning practices and techniques that provide a strategy
for this maintenance.

Reflection On Man s Search For Meaning
A Reflection of Viktor Frankl s Man s Search for Meaning. In this paper I will be analysing/ reflecting
on Viktor Frankl s Man s Search for Meaning. In my reflection I will compare the main philosophical
message of frankl s experience and try to compare its meaning to my very own life experience. In
order to do this I must give you some personal background while growing up I was born with some
challenging complications due to a lack of oxygen at birth I was diagnosed with ataxic cerebral palsy.
The thing about ataxic cerebral palsy is that it has affected my life in many ways some miniscule
others immense. I can write an entire book on my childhood / adolescence and some of the many

At the time I took extreme interest in Frankl s parable of comparing the actions of his comrades to that
of swine and others of saints to this day this still resonates with me. Here are people who find
themselves in one of the worst situations imaginable a nazi concentration camp these are people with
virtually no freedom and have experienced great pain and suffering but even in this darkest hour
Frankl explains that people still had to power to choose how they would react to the situations
presented to them. Now I am a libertarian by nature and I strongly believe in the power of self
determination but I even believe that some circumstances can influence man and hinder his decision
making skills . Take depression for example one of the worst things to say to a person suffering with
depression would be to chastise them with so called tough love statements such as calling the person
lazy and a loser in my opinion statements such as these can only make the situation worse. The point I
am trying to make is that the person with depression is not living with the same reality as the rest of us
while it s technically true it s their fault for waking up at two in the afternoon for the third time in a
week it s also true to state that they only did so because their brain chemistry caused them to lose the
proper amount sleep and motivation to wake up on reasonable time. I use the example of depression
because I

Describe a personal service experience in your high school or community, what you gained from this

High school, for most students, is a time of change and development. You not only discover more
about yourself, such as your ambitions, dreams and desires, but you also realize a greater purpose for
your life. Being raised in a Catholic family, there was a great importance put on serving the less
fortunate and loving our neighbors. I repeatedly hear the Sermon on the Mount which encourages the
followers of Christ to follow His footsteps and to be salt and light in the world. Taking the values of
my faith, I decided take my service to a greater height: starting fundraisers.
In tenth grade, my English teacher posed the class with a question: what are you going to do for your
community? She emphasized the importance of making a positive impact, even if it meant simply
smiling as you hold the door open for someone. She prompted us to go out of our comfort zone and do
something for our community. While I had been volunteering at Church and at school, I had never
really taken a step out of my comfort zone. Instead of just helping out in, say, a soup kitchen, I

Special Cpu Features Of Cpu Overclocking
Special CPU Features CPU overclocking is a very common method of increasing the speed of your
computer. Overclocking is setting your CPU and memory so that it will run faster than the
recommended manufacturer speed. When you overclock your computer, there are some precautions
that you will want to take: 1) Overclocking will cause your computer to run much warmer so it is
required that it has good ventilation. 2) If you notice that your computer is starting to run too hot, you
need to better ventilate the computer, or just dial down the overclocking a little bit until it reaches safe
temperatures. 3) The speed of the CPU and memory should be slowly increased. If the speed is
increased too much then the computer may not start, or it may become unstable and crash. Another
feature that some CPU s have is called Hyper Threading. This is a process in which a single CPU acts
like two separate CPU s. It splits each core in half, so that it can perform multitasking a little bit faster.
A common misconception is that Hyper Threading is the same as just doubling the cores, and this is
not true. The number of cores are doubled, but not the power of the cores. The power of the cores are
split in half. Hyper Threading does not have a substantial influence in the speed of the computer, but it
will help a little when multitasking. If the computer is being used for gaming, then Hyper Threading
will not have an impact in the quality of the game. If the computer is being used for video

Fifa s Corruption Of Soccer Games
Envision attending a game of your favorite sports team, already knowing who the winner of the
match. How fun would that be to watch? Whether you are betting real money on the game or not, the
game would be boring to watch. The possibility of this attending such a scenario does exist for the
FIFA world cup provided that FIFA s corruption is allowed to keep manifesting. FIFA, also known as
the Fédération Internationale de Football Association and the governing body of soccer, who creates
and outlines the rules of the games, is suspected of corruption and it could potentially harm the quality
of soccer games. If this happens, the social and fun aspect of the world cup would be entirely
diminished. Think of if this happens to your favorite sport. You re throwing a barbeque party
celebrating the superbowl, and you know the Patriots are going to win this year. Not because you
believe in their skill but because it has all been staged. This leads me to my main point, if FIFA s
alleged corruption continues to knowingly grow and something isn t done, it will hinder the prestige
the FIFA World Cup. While some may argue soccer has become an important part of many countries
history and FIFA has become too big to fail, if matches become more about bribes, politics, and
personal bias in a game where outcomes should be decided by skill, people will lose interest. You
might think that this doesn t matter and it is only soccer. But in reality, FIFA s corruption is hurting
people too. Did

The Horus Statue of Nectanebo II and the Human-headed...
The Horus Statue of Nectanebo II and the Human headed winged lion, also known as the Lamassu, are
two pieces of art that are very different yet similar with each other in composition, representation,
function, and style. Although they were created at two different points in history, the artists thought
about and created the two art works in similar fashion.
The work of art from the Egyptian period is a statue representing the god of war, the sun, and rulers,
Horus. It was created in the time frame from three hundred sixty to three hundred forty two B.C. It is
titled The Horus Statue of Nectanebo II because the god Horus is seen protecting one of the kings,

The falcon figure was highly worshipped, and the animal was called the lord of the two lands, Upper
and Lower Egypt. Like the lamassu, Horus wears a hat which symbolizes those two regions of Egypt.
The cobra emblem on the hat represents royalty because it is also associated with the pharaoh. The
lamassu creature is not a god but wears a hat and belt which are symbols of divinity. It makes the
statue god like in nature but does not represent a god in way the falcon does. The head of the statue
was made to be a human s representing humans intelligence. These works show that the artists were
interested in animal anatomy. Although its body is made up of the parts of animals, the human headed
winged lion is far from being a natural creature. The statue of Horus is a much better example of the
natural animal world because of the fine skill put into carving its anatomy.
The natures and composition of the statues can explain for their differences in size and function. The
artist of the Horus statue carved it to be realistic and natural looking, unlike the lamassu. The work
was carefully carved from the material greywacke, which is hard and dark sandstone. The statue was
carved out of the stone without backing like most early art. One is able to view all sides of the falcon
by walking around the piece. The lamassu figure was carved from the material alabaster and was made

China s fast entry into Fashion World after the 20th Century
The dawn of the 20th century brought in many challenges in China such as cultural, political,

gradually vanished. The practice of foot compulsory also decreased.
Dr Sun Yat sen (Sun Zhongshan) was a Provisional President of the Republic of China. He is a the

which personified modern values and the impression of equality. Dr. Sun Yat sen suit was developed

of how much it costs to purchase the helicopter and armored vehicles used by the LAPD. The first
question to be answered, Is how much does one of the LAPDs armored vehicles cost. Research on the
number of armored vehicles owned by the LAPD was hard to uncover. However, I did find that the
LAPD uses Lenco BearCats ( LAPD Police Car Web Site ). According to AcronymFinder.com
BearCat stands for Ballistic Engineered Armored Response Counter Attack Truck. These Armored
vehicles can cost around $230,000 depending on the upgrades purchased (Schlueb). Not only does the

Modern Day Era And Its Impact On Our Society
Humans have been communicating with each other as long as the human race can remember. It has
been the essences of our survival allowing us to be able to pass on our knowledge, express ideas, and
covey emotions. As time passed, we have learned different methods to communicate. For example, we
have learned to communicate with words and symbols which has helped us evolve and form a
foundation for our society. Words and symbols have allowed to us expand our ability to communicate
and the ability to express our ideas in a greater way. Typography has become one of the most
influential ways that we use to communicate in this modern day era; and it plays a major role in our
society. Typography essentially is found everywhere from posters to books, magazines to signs and
generally anywhere where type is involved. Now the history of type itself is quite long which
definitely states that type has come a long way and has a great history behind it. Two of the most well
known movements in type, which introduced new principals and brought change to type, would be the
Bauhaus movement and Futurist movement. These two movements have brought forth change and
principals that have influenced the typography work in todays world. In this essay I will be discussing
how the Bauhaus movement and the Futurist movement are different in terms of their philosophy of
type, the characteristics and works of art.
The philosophy of these two movements are different in terms of how they both follow

Second Lines in New Orleans
On the morning of August 29, 2005 was one of the deadliest hurricanes in the United States, known as
Hurricane Katrina struck the south coast of New Orleans, leaving thousands of African American
whom lived in Treme homeless, missing and hundreds dead. Way before the hurricane Treme, which
is one of the oldest African American neighborhoods in New Orleans. The city of New Orleans is
officially divided into 73 neighborhoods grouped into 13 planning districts. Among these, the 4th
district is of interest because of its central location, cultural history, and socio economic challenges
confronted prior to the catastrophe (Barrios, 2). The reason why the 4th district was so ... Show more

These cultural things are beginning to change. People that have been here a short time, and I mean
twenty years is a short time, twenty years or less. They want the second lines to clean up after
themselves... Growing up in Treme, you had a bar, a church, and a funeral home, so you knew where
your family was (Barrios, 14). Cheryl Austin caused much commotion with his comments and sparked
attention with Pierre Bourdieu, who describes her as recently, arrived outsiders. For me, if you did not
grow up here, you cannot appreciate living here. People who think like that, people who want Treme
transformed, could go anywhere and dismantle what was there and build what they wanted. For
outsiders, the most important thing here is the building. For us, it is our culture, for us, that is, what we
consider community, not the buildings (Barrios, 15). Both Austin and Bourdieu make two completely
point about the way they view their culture difference of Treme. To my knowledge what Austin was
trying to interpret his view is that when he grew up in Treme, it was all about being free and being
comfortable around your own neighborhood, which I absolutely agree with. I wouldn t want to live in
a neighborhood where I couldn t feel free to do what I want to do, like sitting on the privacy of my
own home and drinking a beer without being judge and that what the

The World Of The Middle East
Pilgrimage is no more! For hundreds, even thousands of years, pilgrims across the Middle East have
been undertaking immensely costly and onerous journeys to reach holy sites, such as: Mecca, Medina,
Damascus, among many others. Although, their reasons for the visit varied, they all shared a common
underlying importance to please God. This great tradition, which brought millions of Muslims
spiritual elevation and honor by obeying Allah, does not exist anymore. Colonialism and modernity
have taken their tolls on Islam, which left very little of its purest form untainted. The industrial
capitalist agenda of the west sped up technological advancement, which subsequently warped the
world into a smaller, more easily accessible place. No longer did a pilgrim must rely solely on his own
feet, or that of a camel s. While the Middle East became a smaller place, new ethnic, religious, and
geographic borders were raised that, ever so rapidly generate logistical, religious, as well as, ethical
issues which Islam must continually contend with. So, has true pilgrimage really been destroyed and
simply replaced with a purely commercialized shell? Despite some of the arising negative aspects and
challenges, I argue that spiritual pilgrimage persists to this day; it has merely adapted to the world s
increasing volatility. Before attempting to presenting the basis for my argument, it is important to
loosely lay out what a pilgrimage to a holy site such as Mecca means and what it entails.

Cma 76ers Research Paper
17. Philadelphia 76ers USA TODAY Sports The Philadelphia 76ers just completed their second
straight season with fewer than 20 wins, and that was unfortunately the goal. To the confusion of
many NBA fans, this simply means that everything is going to plan in the city of brotherly love.
General manager Sam Hinkie, is sticking to his rebuilding plan of asset collecting, and it is bound to
pay off for Philly at some point. The question is; how long will it take for the 76ers to finally build a
respectable team? The biggest X factor for the Sixers is second year big man Joel Embiid. Embiid is
one of the rare players that has the distinct possibility of being out of the league or a top 10 player in
the NBA five years from now. After missing his entire rookie season with a foot injury, Embiid will be
forced to miss another season after aggravating his foot. It would be a big boost for the Sixers future if
Embiid could come back and avoid being labeled the next Greg Oden. Despite not having Embiid s

Okafor is. Okafor has a polished post game for just a one and done player. Not many players can walk

Animal Experimentation is the use animals in scientific studies. At Least 90% of experiments in

Archaic means very old/old fashioned. Using animals to experiment for cosmetics and pharmaceutical

George Whitefield And Jonathan Edwards And The Second...
The First Great Awakening (c. 1735 1743) was the development of a religious revival which was
heavily influenced by Calvinist ideals. It was centered around the American Revolution which was
primary focused around the thirteen colonies in which an evangelical Protestant revivalist wave took
the colonies by hold. With this, preachers like George Whitefield, an itinerant preacher, and Jonathan
Edwards, father of the Great Awakening, began to preach to large bodies of people; spreading their
beliefs in emotional ways that touched upon their emotions. George Whitefield and Jonathan Edwards,
both well known circuit riders, embedded fear in people by claiming God had already chosen who is
saved by his salvation. The Second Great Awakening (c.1795 1830) was experienced across the
country due to the advancement in the nation s economic growth. Preachers often spoke emotionally
about their message to increase the reaction in people. Preaches proclaimed that the power of eternal
salvation is in the hands of the person to decided to be saved and avoid eternal damnation. This ideals
were closely influenced by Arminianism which sinfulness is a choice rather than a destiny, appealing
to more people because of its optimistic outlook. The Second Great Awakening sought out the
downfall of the old Calvinist, changing the harsh ideals into something the people reacted positively
to. Preachers would promote new social reforms that included: women s movement, abolishment of
slaves, and etc. Revivalist during the Second Great Awakening focused on a conversion experience
within the heart of the listener. People gathered in camp meetings, large social gathering were priest
would preach 24/7 for 47 days; lead to large numbers of converts due to their energetic/emotional
style of talking. Ultimately, preachers proclaimed salvation to be a choice.
The preaches would publicly advocate, during the First Great Awakening, was that God has already
decided who will live in eternal salvation (heaven). Jonathan Edwards was a huge influence in the new
religious revival (The Great Awakening) by becoming a founding and central figure. He believed that
the American people were losing interest in religion because they prioritize other

Yellowstone National Park In Wyoming
Today I am visiting Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, in which the majority of the park is in. It
is hard to believe that Yellowstone has been around for so long. It was established on March 1, 1872,
when Congress passed a law saying that Yellowstone was a public park or pleasuring ground for the
benefit and enjoyment of the people and placed it under exclusive control of the Secretary of the
Interior. This started a movement of the creation of National Parks around the world, especially in the
United States. After that, in 1916, the National Park Service was founded and is now in charge of
preserving and maintaining the beauty of Yellowstone and other National Parks. There are so many

The Atomic Energy Commission ( Aec )
Sam Jenkins Carr AP US History
January 26, 2015
In 1970, Glenn T. Seaborg, the chairman of the United States Atomic Energy Commission (AEC),
predicted that by the year 2000, more than 1000 nuclear energy reactors would be operational in the
United States. However, as of 2015, only 99 nuclear power plants are currently in use. What could
have led to such a dramatic difference between the expectation and reality of nuclear power? The
nuclear industry has always been dependent on the public s graces, and it seems that their opinion of
atomic energy has flipped back and forth from the 1960 s to the present. Many different events and
issues have influenced the public s attitude on the issue of nuclear energy, including the Cold War,
nuclear incidents such as Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima, and media portrayals such as
The China Syndrome. Additionally, the safety, environmental impact, and economic feasibility of
nuclear power compared to other sources of energy was a major influence. These shifts in public
opinion were the primary factor in the rise and fall of nuclear energy in the United States. The concept
of nuclear fission, a form of radioactive decay in which the nucleus of an atom splits into smaller
parts, was first discovered by Enrico Fermi during his experiments with uranium in 1934. Over the
next 15 years, scientists such as Otto Hahn, Fritz Strassman, Lise Meitner, and Niels Bohr confirmed
his results, and discovered that this reaction was

Abjection In Barbara Creeds s Horror And The...
During the challenging teenage years, certain adolescents find their physique abject and experiment
with their own bodies, sometimes even inflicting self harm. Such abjection is portrayed in Ginger
Snaps (2000). In the opening scene, a school teacher is lost for words when two sisters, Ginger and
Brigitte Fitzgerald (Katherine Isabelle and Emily Perkins) are exposed as freaks in a montage of
pictures that they themselves provide for a class project. In Horror and the Monstrous Feminine,
Barbara Creeds suggests that the use of such pervasive images of transgressive femininity as well as
monstrosities in such horror films brand this genre works of abjection . Creeds defends her ideology

Women have an urge to expel this thing from our bodies that doesn t belong there. Even though it is
natural, almost as an impulse, women are disgusted by it, repulsed in an inherent way. This film
betrays normal female sexuality by urging the viewer to turn this natural moment into a violent and
monstrous feature which is repulsive. The monster, in this case, is nominally portrayed as the
werewolf related to the stereotypical image depicted since the early days of cinema. In Ginger Snaps,
the monster is not really the werewolf but the Monstrous Feminine, Ginger and Brigitte dismayed by

associating their menstruations with acts of terror. Just by looking at the film s opening title, with its

them playing dead, Bridgette and Ginger have constructed their own death in a glorious and gory

Piaget Cognitive Theory
Piaget s Theory used in Mathematics Today Piaget took an interest in children s cognitive
development and came up with his theory of Cognitive Development; the Cognitive Development
theory consists of the four stages: Sensorimotor, Preoperational, Concrete Operational, and Formal
Operational (Ghazi Ullah, 2016, pg. 1). Jean Piaget s cognitive theory has a wide array of effects on
children s learning in mathematics that are applicable to teaching today. Teachers today use different
strategies and teaching methods based on what stage children are in. I will discuss each of the stages
and how teachers use them in math today. The first stage is the sensorimotor stage, which takes place
between the age of zero to two, and is where children understand perception and awareness of the
environment through physical actions and the manipulation of objects (Ghazi Ullah, 2016, pg. 1). In
the sensorimotor stage, the most important thing to understand is the idea of object permanence and
understanding that even when the child cannot see the object they are still able to find it. Also, in this
stage they begin to associate numbers with objects and they understand counting. In order to enhance
a child s math basis teachers are giving activities that include counting. Asking question like Who has
more? and Are there enough? , start the foundation for young children to not only understand these
things in the classroom but even more so in the real world. Another way teachers enhance

Elaine Riots Essay
The Elaine Riots The Elaine Massacre was one of the most destructive racial dispute that had taken
place in Arkansas history and perhaps, the bloodiest racial rivalry in the history of the United States.
While its inmost origin lies in the United States dedication to white superiority, the events in Elaine
were emanated from strained race affiliates and expanding sympathy regarding the labor unions. A
firing incident that took place at a meeting of the Progressive Farmers and the Household Union
inflated into throng brutality on the part of the white people in Elaine and the nearby areas. Despite,
the perfect number is unidentified, a huge number of African Americans were killed by the white s
territory that was around hundreds; and five white people lost their lives. The strife had taken place on
the night of September 30, 1919, when nearly hundreds of African Americans, essentially peasants on
the plantations of white landlords, organized a meeting for the Progressive Farmers and the Household
Union of America at Hoop Spur, that was three miles north of Elaine. The motive of the meeting was
that the black peasants in the Elaine area for the past few months were attaining better refund for their
cotton crops from the white ranch owners who managed the area during the Jim Crow era. Black
peasants were often abused, ill treated in their attempts to collect a pension for their cotton crops.
During the past few months, a racial dispute had taken place in

A True War Story Is Never Moral Analysis
Beginning in 1965, the Vietnam War was a nearly decade long conflict in which the United States
attempted to halt the inevitable rise of Communism in Southeast Asia. Ultimately resulting in the
deaths of 60,000 Americans, the Vietnam War was a massive failure in American history ( Vietnam
War Fast Facts ). Domestically, the War sparked controversy and protests across the nation. As chaos
ensued in Vietnam, many Americans questioned the moral values of the United States Government. In
media, such inquiries quickly became a prominent topic, and films such as The Deer Hunter, directed
by Michael Cimino, became major hits. Even years later, the Vietnam War remained a significant
focus for many Americans, sparking a Vietnam war veteran, Tim O Brien, to write his war story novel,
The Things They Carried. In his book, O Brien thoroughly describes the guidelines of a true war story,
with a main point being that, A true war story is never moral (O Brien 76). In his film The Deer
Hunter, Michael Cimino asserts Tim O Brien s guideline that war stories are morally indifferent.
During the movie, Michael s actions in the Vietnamese village and Nick s death represent the lack of
virtue in the war.
Reflecting O Brien s guideline stating that, A true war story is never moral, Cimino ensures that the
protagonist s actions are not always portrayed as heroic (O Brien 76). One of such scenes occurs when
Michael is first depicted in the war. After the destruction of a small Vietnamese

  • 2. Three Stages Of Play By Sara Smilansky Sara Smilansky Physical/Manipulative Smilansky developed three stages of play. She was initially working together with Jean Piaget, but they went separate ways, so she expanded on it and developed these theories to: functional play, constructive play, dramatic play. The best description of Smilansky s functional play is when, babies are throwing their toys out of the cot time after another, or are banging their spoon on the table for hours non stop, and this is actually a way of them showing that they re playing. Adults and Teenagers also use functional play when confronted with a new object or activity to explore. Once they have mastered the objects or activity then they start to really play. Symbolic play is when the child can use an object ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Evidence of onlooker play is when a child or children are near a group of other children and begin to follow the actions or copying what they are doing while playing. Parallel play This is commonly found in toddler years and sometimes into the earlier years of preschool. Children will now be able tolerate other children standing near them when playing and occasionally when they re using the same equipment. However, they will have a limited amount of meaningful interactions with other children. Associative play This is first seen usually in the early preschool years. Children will begin to play and talk with each other in dramatic play situations where roles may be taken on. Even if these roles are usually not sustained for any length of time. Cooperative play Cooperative play occurs in the later preschool years. Children are able to take on roles and sustain them for the duration of the play. The group of children have agreed upon goals and roles for the play. In this stage of play, leaders and followers emerge within groups. Roles are delegated and tasks distributed within the group. There is a common goal and children will play together in a more complex ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Personality Analysis of Charles Manson PERSONALITY ANALYSIS OF CHARLES MANSON Introduction Manson is a convicted serial killer who has become an icon of evil. In the late 1960s, Manson founded a hippie cult group known as the Family whom he manipulated into brutally killing others on his behalf. Helter Skelter, Manson believed, was going to occur in the summer of 1969 when blacks were going to rise up and slaughter all the white people. He told his followers that they would be saved because they would go underground, literally, by traveling to an underground city of gold located in Death Valley. However, when the Armageddon that Manson had predicted did not occur, he said he and his followers must show the blacks how to do it. The reason why I chose Manson for my ... During this time he married another girl before being arrested again in 1960 for crossing state lines for prostitution. His sentence this time was for 7 years at McNeil Island Penitentiary in Washington and then was transferred back to Terminal Island in California. During this time, his wife divorced him after giving birth to his second son named Charles Luther Manson Jr. He spent his prison time learning to play guitar and studied Scientology. After being released in 1967, he traveled to San Francisco. There he met a woman named Mary Brunner and moved into her apartment. She soon fell in love with Manson and he used that to manipulate her into sleeping around with multiple women. She eventually lost her job at UC Berkeley, fell deep into drug use, and began travelling with Manson. Mary Brunner became an important part in his development of the Manson Family . Lynette Fromme was the first to join the family. The three lived together on the streets of San Francisco while Manson mentored and prophesized his ideas to the girls. His childhood manipulative tendencies helped fuel his status as a prophet. In 1968 after time spent travelling, the group ended up living in Chatsworth, California on Spahn Ranch. Here Brunner gave birth to his third son named Valentine Manson. Manson wanted a son to carry on his legacy and planned to have many more. Manson was an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Uncertainty Reduction Theory Jonathan Quinones Literature Review Paper Comm 306 Uncertainty Reduction Theory Uncertainty is an unpleasant feeling and because of this feeling, people are motivated to reduce this uncertainty by means of communication. Uncertainty reduction theory (URT) was developed to describe the interrelationships in any type of communication exchange using seven factors: verbal communication, nonverbal expressiveness, information seeking behavior, intimacy, reciprocity, similarity, and liking (Berger Calabrese, 1975). During the beginning stage information about ones sex, age, socio economic status, along with other demographic information can be obtained. The exchange of information during this beginning stage of communication is usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Uncertainty reduction within an instructional context is something that as not been researched extensively, and because teacher student relations is considered to be a type of interpersonal relationship, it seems warranted that a study in terms of proactive attributions and uncertainty in their relationship be conducted. Communication satisfaction is an affective response to the accomplishment of communication goals and expectations, and results when positive expectations are fulfilled, yet is dependent on whatever expectations individuals have about an interaction (Goodboy Myers, 2007). With the use of certain axioms in URT such as similarity/homophily, the sharing of attitudes, beliefs, background, demographics, and physical attributes. The 7th axiom in URT which is Liking, one of the most common desires of individuals is the need to be liked. Berger and Calabrese (1975) propose: increases in uncertainty level produce decreases in liking; decreases in uncertainty level produce increases in liking . The method of this experiment included 147 participants who were undergraduate students both men and women ranging from ages 18 to 23. Participants completed a survey assessing their attributional confidence of their instructor from a previous class they attended, using an Attributional Confidence Scale, Interpersonal communication Satisfaction Inventory, Perceived Homophily Measure, and the ... If robots start to take over jobs then what would people do to earn money in a short notice? In the article As Our Jobs Are Automated, Some Say We ll Need a Guaranteed Basic Income it states that people will not have to worry about starving or going without shelter because the government will give a $10,000 universal income to each person. Suppose we advanced in technology to the point where machines could take care of anything we want. Would we need jobs? With all of the technologic changes going on in our world we will always need jobs. In the article states, And then there s Uber, which is experimenting with driverless taxis and trucks. That would affect approximately 3.5 million truck drivers, and 5 million people who support the truck driving industry. Selfless driving sounds pretty great but there is no way that could ever happen. Even the most advanced cars will not know what the other drivers are thinking. The only way selfless driving could ever come to highway is if everybody owned a car that had the ability to know what other cars are going to do. There will be jobs for truck drivers, jobs in the medial field, and jobs making the robots. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A lot of citizens work for what they have, they go to college and make something of their selves, why can t everybody do that? On the contrary, a basic income will help the people who truly need the money to help them get back up on their feet. I do not agree with the $10,000 income if it will be coming out of my paycheck. • 6. Global Climate Change And Creating A Sustainable Energy... Energy efficiency is a key step in reducing our impact on global climate change and creating a sustainable energy future. Electricity production is the number one source of greenhouse gases and the leading cause of industrial air pollution in the United States. Most of our electricity comes from coal, nuclear, and other non renewable power plants. Producing energy from these types of sources takes a severe toll on the environment by polluting the air, land, and water supply. In order to stop polluting the atmosphere and the environment around us, we must take action and implement the use of renewable resources into our electricity grid and overall economy. Renewable energy can be used to produce electricity with less environmental impacts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Power plants that use coal leak toxic metals into local groundwater and produce a lot of additional waste. Gasoline that is burned in combustion engines emits large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere thus contributing to climate change. Natural Gas is mostly made up of methane, which is a lot more effective at trapping heat than carbon dioxide, making it more problematic as a greenhouse gas (What Are Non, 2013). There are also the impacts of nonrenewable resources in terms of health risks for individuals living across the globe. Uranium, which is used in nuclear power plants, can cause numerous health issues. Including, major birth defects and abnormal heart, liver and kidney functions with overexposure (What Are Non, 2013). Also, coal miners that inhale dust can contract black lung disease, which kills around 4,000 miners per year in the United States. Finally, there is the issue of supply and demand as they are nonrenewable resources; once they are gone there is no way to create new ones. Thus, they are more and more expensive as they are used. Due to this and the price increase, the technologies that we use to make our lives easier will become useless if the fuel that is used to power them ceases to exist. If alternatives are not pursued and perfected, a shortage would result in chaos. However, in order to achieve the switch from nonrenewable resources to renewable resources, it is important to understand what it is. Renewable energy is energy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Foot And Mouth Research Paper FOOT AND MOUTH: CATTLE Key Facts Foot and Mouth (FMD) is recognized as a highly contagious viral disease which affects cloven hooved animals, such as cattle (Bos Taurus) (Grubman and Baxt, 2004). The mortality rate is very low as affected animals can recover from the disease, however, due to the loss of production and infectious state of the disease, infected animals are usually culled. The outbreak of FMD in the United Kingdom in 2001 caused the destruction of about 6 million animals from 9,515 farms and losses of £8 million. It then spread to Ireland, the Netherlands and France. But in A Long Day s Journey into Night the mother, Mary, struggles with an addiction to morphine and the only empathy she receives is from her youngest son, Edmund. Edmund is ill with Tuberculosis and he understands his mother more than his brother, Jamie, and father, James. Mary s older son, Jamie, and her husband did want her to conquer her addiction but they act as if she should be able to beat her addiction within minutes. Edmund on the other hand tries to show her compassion and let her take her time. Jamie and James are always watching Mary and Edmund to make sure Mary doesn t fall back into her morphine addiction and that Edmund doesn t cause himself to become sicker by drinking alcohol. The constant feeling of being observed causes both Mary and Edmund to find their own home in the fog. The fog was a shield to them that made them feel safer and more relaxed. There is something about their illnesses that allows Edmund to feel a sense of affinity for his mother. The compassion Edmund shows Mary is unique because he can relate to everything that she is going through and the leniency encourages Mary to overcome her addiction. • 11. What Does Descartes Error Mean Anthony Damasio s: Descartes Error: Emotion, Reason, and the Human Brain introduces the reader to the interesting world of emotions. Before reading this book, one probably did not pay much attention to the science and philosophy behind emotion. In fact, few people would likely be able to properly describe and define emotion. Damasio, though, demonstrates that emotions are central to the life regulating processes of almost all living creatures. Damásio presents the somatic marker hypothesis a proposed mechanism by which emotions guide behavior and decision making, and positing that rationality requires emotional input. He argues that Rene Descartes error was the dualist separation of mind and body, rationality and emotion. To begin the book, Damasio explains the differences between feeling and emotion. Elliot is unable to plan ahead; he only devotes his mind to trivial follies and cannot look at the big picture of life. Damasio then notes that Eliot s psychologist recommended psychotherapy, not making the connection between brain damage and personality change. He notes stigma attached to mental illness. What is so shocking to Damasio is that many of Eliot s cognitive functions remained untouched. So Damasio wonders whether social reasoning is different from abstract reasoning. Next, Damasio notes Eliot s lack of affect, which is found when Eliot demonstrates no emotional reaction to disturbing pictures. Yet, Eliot retained a conceptual understanding of social conventions. He could also generate options, assign consequences, match means to ends, predict consequences, and he was mature on a developmental scale of moral reasoning. Despite this normalcy, Eliot was still unable to make wise ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the readings the document titled The Great Hymn to the Aten describes why king Akhenaten tried to change the ancient religion, and why this ended up being very important later on. What he tried to do was change the Egyptian religion by introducing something similar to monotheism. Though the main reason for this significant change was, according to the readings, He ordered this change to downgrade the influence of the rich priests of Amen Re, the local deity from Thebes who rose to national prominence in the New Kingdom and became Re (the sun god) (Readings, p.23). It was a tragic love story of two star crossed lovers who struggled to keep their affair a secret from their families. I believe Friar Lawrence is to blame for the death of Romeo and Juliet because of the ideas and advice he gives to them. If the ideas of the Friar were more planned out and better thought out, the play could have ended happily, but alas, it doesn t. With Romeo being banished to Mantua, he writes him a letter to explain what will happen and where it will take place. He then gives this letter to Friar John, who is supposed to deliver the letter, but it is later found out that he was held in quarantine and was unable to deliver it. While this is taking place, Friar Lawrence gives Juliet a vile and tells her to drink it, saying that it will put her in a death like state for 48 hours. Once she is found dead she will be laid in the family tomb. Once the 48 hours are up, she will awaken and Romeo was supposed to come and take her somewhere safe where they can be together. This plan backfired when Romeo didn t receive the Friar s letter and took matters into his own hands when Balthazar tells him Juliet is dead. Because Balthazar believes Juliet is truly dead, Romeo believes that this is the news that was supposed to come from the Friar. Romeo then paid for a bottle of poison that he will drink when he lies next to Juliet. If Friar s plan would have succeeded, they would be together and they could work out a plan to keep them both safe and end the family feud. Because the plan backfired, both Romeo and Juliet end up dead at the end of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Favorite Movie Assignment For this assignment, I have chosen to pick one of my favorite movies called Star Wars episode 3 Revenge of the Sith. Because I am a huge fan of the whole Star Wars series, but this specific movie, I have seen several times and it is my favorite out of all the movies included in the franchise. Before I took this class, I thought this movie was phenomenal, I loved the way it was put together, the whole story was interesting, it stood out from different movies because of its creative and unique concept of the science fiction, adventure, action, romance, and fantasy genres. When I first saw this movie, I was truly intrigued and didn t lose interest in any part throughout the film, it fascinated me. After I had took this theater class though, and after analyzing several different movies, I looked back at the movie, I realized that all the terminology and content that I have learned throughout the course wasn t put to mind because I didn t pay attention to it really because I didn t even know the names of the terms that I learned in class and the insights of how this film was put together, I was more focused on what was happening in the story. After I took this class, I have changed my response to this film because when I analyze this movie, I now have a deeper understanding of what goes on in this movie, I know this because I think of how different scenes in the movie add to the story/narrative, and how some characters are affected and how it adds to the story, I know what kind ... • 17. Racial Tension And Police Brutality Racial tension and police brutality are the most controversial topics in the United States today. As a society, we never really know what to do with racism. The increase tensions between the African American community and Caucasian community has been at an ultimate high recently. The contemporary events in places such as Missouri, Florida, Chicago, etc. have highlighted the seriousness of these issues. In Ferguson, Missouri, 18 year old African American male Michael Brown was shot and killed by police officer Darren Wilson. The incident involving Brown created a critical environment in Ferguson and became a dangerous and controversial time in America. The events following the initial incident impacted Missouri significantly. Following this incident, a ripple effect of police brutality incidents took place. The question Is the law is really doing their job and protecting us? Was created. The issue of police brutality is a significant issue within America today. I strongly think that this issue is an important issue because as civilians, individuals should feel protected by their law system and officers. But also, police officers should not be anxious to arrest individuals and/or patrol communities because of tensions created within the community. Specifically, since Michael Brown s death police officers become apprehensive to do their job because of the split between civilians and the police force during this time. • 19. Presidential Election Results How Did Pollsters Get It Wrong? On last November 8th, the results of presidential election were a surprise and shock to most people around the world, especially US residents because they consistently projected Hillary Clinton would defeated Donald Trump. According to the article Presidential Election Results: Donald J. Trump Wins in The New York Times, the total votes for Clinton were 62,391,335 (48%) and for Trump were 61,125,956 (47%). However, in contrast to earlier predictions, some states elected to Trump instead of Clinton, and this result brought victory for Trump in the last hours of election day. In details, Trump had 6 electoral votes from Iowa, 10 electoral votes from Wisconsin, 18 electoral votes from Ohio, 20 electoral votes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is a great deal of speculation but no clear answers as to the cause of the disconnect, but there is one point of agreement: Across the board, polls underestimated Trump s level of support. , said Andrew Mercer, Claudia Deane and Kyley McGeeney authors on their article Why 2016 election polls missed their mark in Pew Research Center. They also gave some several possible explanations for the misstep. The first factor might be what pollsters refer to as nonresponse bias. Some groups, include the less educated voters who were a key demographic for Trump on Election Day, are consistently hard for pollsters to reach. Then, the result would be a strongly pro Trump segment of the population that simply did not show up in the polls in proportion to their actual share of the population. The next factor was many of those who were polled simply were not honest about whom they intended to vote for. The explanation for this factor was support for Trump was socially undesirable, and that his supporters were unwilling to admit their support to pollsters . In 1982, a similar case occurred in the gubernatorial election in California. Democrat Tom Bradley, the black mayor of Los Angeles, lost to Republican George Deukmejian despite having been ahead in the polls even though the voters were reluctant to tell interviewers that they were not going to vote for a black candidate. The third factor involves the way pollsters identify likely voters. Because we can t know in advance who is actually going to vote, pollsters develop models predicting who is going to vote and what the electorate will look like on Election Day. This is a notoriously difficult task, and small differences in assumptions can produce sizable differences in election ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Persuasive Essay On Minimum Wage The United States of America has often times been described as the land of opportunity, where a person can come to America with nothing but a dream, and make those dreams possible. With hard work, determination, and a plan, there are no limitations to the amount of success a person can achieve. Due to America s economic growth, top colleges and universities, and the freedom the US allows its citizens, upward mobility is always possible. While most people strive for success, often times they forget that the road to claiming success will not be easy. When first looking for jobs with no work experience or trade, entry level positions such as, customer service, restaurant/food services industry, custodian work, housekeeping, etc. will be the positions that person will be most qualified for. Most of these jobs will start paying at minimum wage, which is legally the lowest wage per hour that an employer can pay its employees. Today the federal minimum wage is $7.25, and has been at this wage since 2009. While many states have a higher minimum wage than what is regulated federally, it is a very controversial topic in the United States of America. According to the Bureau of Labor Statics, ...Among those paid by the hour, 870,000 workers earned exactly the prevailing federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour . His most radical ideological explanation seems to be the one regarding Scorsese s The Last Temptation of Jesus Christ. When Zizek embarks on the mission to explain to the viewer what the theories behind the film are, he shows some of the most gruesome and emotional scenes of the film. However, although his theories seem almost too complex to understand, they play a role in exploring the fine line between Christianity and Atheism. Now, one might be questioning if the line between these two counterparts is even fine, but Zizek clearly draws for the viewer the thinnest line possible as they try to follow the complex path of his argument of what the film truly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet, despite his explanations, Zizek enters into a paradoxical realm of religious beliefs that becomes more confusing as the film progresses. What does Zizek mean when he claims that Christianity is more atheist than Atheism? Can something be more related to its counterpart than the counterpart itself? Such a question can only be explored by examining the progression of Zizek s argument. For Zizek, such a question is true when applied to the Christianity displayed in the film. If Atheism is the disbelief in God, then the Christianity in the film is inherently more Atheist because it completely disintegrates God, the Big Other. The film begins the process of revealing Christianity s Atheist characteristics with the idea of hysteria. Slavoj Zizek proposes the idea of hysteria playing a role in the life of Jesus Christ. He defines hysteria as the way we question our social, symbolic identity. He begins analyzing his own definition by explaining how it plays a role in the character of Jesus Christ in the film The Last Temptation of Christ. Overclocking is setting your CPU and memory so that it will run faster than the recommended manufacturer speed. When you overclock your computer, there are some precautions that you will want to take: 1) Overclocking will cause your computer to run much warmer so it is required that it has good ventilation. 2) If you notice that your computer is starting to run too hot, you need to better ventilate the computer, or just dial down the overclocking a little bit until it reaches safe temperatures. 3) The speed of the CPU and memory should be slowly increased. If the speed is increased too much then the computer may not start, or it may become unstable and crash. Another feature that some CPU s have is called Hyper Threading. This is a process in which a single CPU acts like two separate CPU s. It splits each core in half, so that it can perform multitasking a little bit faster. A common misconception is that Hyper Threading is the same as just doubling the cores, and this is not true. The number of cores are doubled, but not the power of the cores. The power of the cores are split in half. Hyper Threading does not have a substantial influence in the speed of the computer, but it will help a little when multitasking. • 36. Fifa s Corruption Of Soccer Games Envision attending a game of your favorite sports team, already knowing who the winner of the match. How fun would that be to watch? Whether you are betting real money on the game or not, the game would be boring to watch. The possibility of this attending such a scenario does exist for the FIFA world cup provided that FIFA s corruption is allowed to keep manifesting. FIFA, also known as the Fédération Internationale de Football Association and the governing body of soccer, who creates and outlines the rules of the games, is suspected of corruption and it could potentially harm the quality of soccer games. If this happens, the social and fun aspect of the world cup would be entirely diminished. Think of if this happens to your favorite sport. You re throwing a barbeque party celebrating the superbowl, and you know the Patriots are going to win this year. Not because you believe in their skill but because it has all been staged. This leads me to my main point, if FIFA s alleged corruption continues to knowingly grow and something isn t done, it will hinder the prestige the FIFA World Cup. While some may argue soccer has become an important part of many countries history and FIFA has become too big to fail, if matches become more about bribes, politics, and personal bias in a game where outcomes should be decided by skill, people will lose interest. You might think that this doesn t matter and it is only soccer. But in reality, FIFA s corruption is hurting people too. Did ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Horus Statue of Nectanebo II and the Human headed winged lion, also known as the Lamassu, are two pieces of art that are very different yet similar with each other in composition, representation, function, and style. Although they were created at two different points in history, the artists thought about and created the two art works in similar fashion. The work of art from the Egyptian period is a statue representing the god of war, the sun, and rulers, Horus. It was created in the time frame from three hundred sixty to three hundred forty two B.C. It is titled The Horus Statue of Nectanebo II because the god Horus is seen protecting one of the kings, also known as pharaohs, of Egypt, Nectanebo II. Another similar work of art, a ... Like the lamassu, Horus wears a hat which symbolizes those two regions of Egypt. The cobra emblem on the hat represents royalty because it is also associated with the pharaoh. The lamassu creature is not a god but wears a hat and belt which are symbols of divinity. It makes the statue god like in nature but does not represent a god in way the falcon does. The head of the statue was made to be a human s representing humans intelligence. These works show that the artists were interested in animal anatomy. Although its body is made up of the parts of animals, the human headed winged lion is far from being a natural creature. The statue of Horus is a much better example of the natural animal world because of the fine skill put into carving its anatomy. The natures and composition of the statues can explain for their differences in size and function. The artist of the Horus statue carved it to be realistic and natural looking, unlike the lamassu. The work was carefully carved from the material greywacke, which is hard and dark sandstone. The statue was carved out of the stone without backing like most early art. For example, we have learned to communicate with words and symbols which has helped us evolve and form a foundation for our society. Words and symbols have allowed to us expand our ability to communicate and the ability to express our ideas in a greater way. Typography has become one of the most influential ways that we use to communicate in this modern day era; and it plays a major role in our society. Typography essentially is found everywhere from posters to books, magazines to signs and generally anywhere where type is involved. Now the history of type itself is quite long which definitely states that type has come a long way and has a great history behind it. Two of the most well known movements in type, which introduced new principals and brought change to type, would be the Bauhaus movement and Futurist movement. These two movements have brought forth change and principals that have influenced the typography work in todays world. • 42. The World Of The Middle East Pilgrimage is no more! For hundreds, even thousands of years, pilgrims across the Middle East have been undertaking immensely costly and onerous journeys to reach holy sites, such as: Mecca, Medina, Damascus, among many others. Although, their reasons for the visit varied, they all shared a common underlying importance to please God. This great tradition, which brought millions of Muslims spiritual elevation and honor by obeying Allah, does not exist anymore. Colonialism and modernity have taken their tolls on Islam, which left very little of its purest form untainted. The industrial capitalist agenda of the west sped up technological advancement, which subsequently warped the world into a smaller, more easily accessible place. No longer did a pilgrim must rely solely on his own feet, or that of a camel s. While the Middle East became a smaller place, new ethnic, religious, and geographic borders were raised that, ever so rapidly generate logistical, religious, as well as, ethical issues which Islam must continually contend with. So, has true pilgrimage really been destroyed and simply replaced with a purely commercialized shell? Despite some of the arising negative aspects and challenges, I argue that spiritual pilgrimage persists to this day; it has merely adapted to the world s increasing volatility. Before attempting to presenting the basis for my argument, it is important to loosely lay out what a pilgrimage to a holy site such as Mecca means and what it entails. ... With this, preachers like George Whitefield, an itinerant preacher, and Jonathan Edwards, father of the Great Awakening, began to preach to large bodies of people; spreading their beliefs in emotional ways that touched upon their emotions. George Whitefield and Jonathan Edwards, both well known circuit riders, embedded fear in people by claiming God had already chosen who is saved by his salvation. The Second Great Awakening (c.1795 1830) was experienced across the country due to the advancement in the nation s economic growth. Seaborg, the chairman of the United States Atomic Energy Commission (AEC), predicted that by the year 2000, more than 1000 nuclear energy reactors would be operational in the United States. However, as of 2015, only 99 nuclear power plants are currently in use. What could have led to such a dramatic difference between the expectation and reality of nuclear power? The nuclear industry has always been dependent on the public s graces, and it seems that their opinion of atomic energy has flipped back and forth from the 1960 s to the present. Many different events and issues have influenced the public s attitude on the issue of nuclear energy, including the Cold War, nuclear incidents such as Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima, and media portrayals such as The China Syndrome. Additionally, the safety, environmental impact, and economic feasibility of nuclear power compared to other sources of energy was a major influence. These shifts in public opinion were the primary factor in the rise and fall of nuclear energy in the United States. The concept of nuclear fission, a form of radioactive decay in which the nucleus of an atom splits into smaller parts, was first discovered by Enrico Fermi during his experiments with uranium in 1934. Piaget Cognitive Theory Piaget s Theory used in Mathematics Today Piaget took an interest in children s cognitive development and came up with his theory of Cognitive Development; the Cognitive Development theory consists of the four stages: Sensorimotor, Preoperational, Concrete Operational, and Formal Operational (Ghazi Ullah, 2016, pg. 1). Jean Piaget s cognitive theory has a wide array of effects on children s learning in mathematics that are applicable to teaching today. Teachers today use different strategies and teaching methods based on what stage children are in. I will discuss each of the stages and how teachers use them in math today. The first stage is the sensorimotor stage, which takes place between the age of zero to two, and is where children understand perception and awareness of the environment through physical actions and the manipulation of objects (Ghazi Ullah, 2016, pg. 1). In the sensorimotor stage, the most important thing to understand is the idea of object permanence and understanding that even when the child cannot see the object they are still able to find it. Also, in this stage they begin to associate numbers with objects and they understand counting. In order to enhance a child s math basis teachers are giving activities that include counting. Ultimately resulting in the deaths of 60,000 Americans, the Vietnam War was a massive failure in American history ( Vietnam War Fast Facts ). Domestically, the War sparked controversy and protests across the nation. As chaos ensued in Vietnam, many Americans questioned the moral values of the United States Government. In media, such inquiries quickly became a prominent topic, and films such as The Deer Hunter, directed by Michael Cimino, became major hits. Even years later, the Vietnam War remained a significant focus for many Americans, sparking a Vietnam war veteran, Tim O Brien, to write his war story novel, The Things They Carried. In his book, O Brien thoroughly describes the guidelines of a true war story, with a main point being that, A true war story is never moral (O Brien 76). In his film The Deer Hunter, Michael Cimino asserts Tim O Brien s guideline that war stories are morally indifferent. During the movie, Michael s actions in the Vietnamese village and Nick s death represent the lack of virtue in the war.
