How Narrative Elements Shape Qualitative Research
Literature Review Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted
counts (Eigen Arnett Educational Cultural Foundation Inc, 2010). Karri Holley and Julia Colyar
(2012) coauthors of the article Under Construction: How Narrative Elements Shape Qualitative
Research addresses three stories that shape the features of qualitative research. The three narratives;
Plot the DNA of the narrative; Point of View the author s connection to the narrative; Authorial
Distance the author s location within the text and Character function as the avenues for audience
investment in the topic of the qualitative research. These three narratives outline the story found at the
beginning and end of qualitative research. The module of the narrative elements demonstrates
narrative constructs offer but one approach toward mapping the complex, hidden dimensions of
experience (2012).
Thesis
Qualitative research involves the process of discovering not only what people think but also why they
believe it. The object is to get people to discuss their stance, beliefs, or viewpoints to acquire an
understanding of their feelings and motivation. The qualitative research utilizes in depth small group
studies to steer and assists the development of theory. The outcome of qualitative research tends to be
indicative of the opinion of the researcher rather than estimated.
Qualitative Methods and Tools
There are three conventional qualitative methods

Light Pollution
Effects of Light Pollution on Ecosystems
Intro
Over time, human populations have been exponentially increasing. This growth has led to a major
increase in demand for resources and space. To achieve their goals, humans have caused major
changes in the surrounding ecosystems in many ways. First, they have cleared many areas thriving
with organisms to build roads and cities destroying different ecosystems. Second, they have
overharvested many species for food and resources causing many species to go extinct. Lastly, they
have polluted natural habitats in numerous ways declining species biodiversity. Many people are
familiar with pollution such as air pollution, trash pollution, and chemical pollution. However, a less
apparent type of pollution that is equally important is the pollution of artificial lighting.
Over the past hundred plus years artificial lighting has increased in use dramatically. From 1992 to
2013 there has been an increase in light intensity on coastal zones of about 42% (Brei et al. 2016).
This increasing use of light has had major impacts on surrounding species on land and in water. Many
organisms are nocturnal or depend on light cues to go on through normal daily activities such as
foraging, migration, and reproduction. This disruption in schedule has seen to have major impacts on
varied species. La Sorte et al. (2017) shows how light pollution affects nocturnal migrating birds.
These birds seemed to be attracted to highly lit urban areas disrupting natural behaviors like
migration. Perkin et al. (2014) displays how artificial lighting can affect insects and their ability to
properly disperse throughout areas. Although light pollution has shown to affect many diverse types of
organisms on land, marine organisms have also been affected. Due to the increase in artificial light
pollution, the marine environment can have disruptions which lead to trophic cascades, changes in
behaviors, and changes in interactions among and between marine species resulting in a loss of
biodiversity. If humans keep on the same track they have been, then biodiversity will be lost, so they
must think of solutions to combat and reduce the effects artificial light pollution has on biodiversity.

Let There Be Light And There Is Light Essay
And God said, Let there be light, and there was light (Genesis 1:3). This sentence can be the most
famous sentence that has ever been written. When the light was created, the faith of the universe, earth
and humanity were completely redesigned. The control of our universe was given to its owner, light.
We were born into a universe that light governs us. However, we couldn t realize it in a short span of
time. After that moment, the perception of humanity towards light, a mysterious phenomenon, has
altered a lot; nevertheless, light has never lost its meaning of being fundamental for anything related to
human, conversely, we discovered beyond what we knew about it.
Light exhibited its significance since the existence of early humans. Thousands ... Show more content

Sean Vander Meulen says, Greek philosophers thought that light was coming from our eyes. Then we
understood that light is made of particles that bounce from the things around us. Now, we are not sure
about whether it is made of particles of waves. We will never be done with light. If we will be, then
physics will be done, too. (Vander Meulen). Light is not a concept that concerns about only one topic.
It covers all the things that humanity deals with. That is the reason why our perception towards light is
always in a process of change. Thus, future includes limitless of new perceptions of light for

Labeling And The Rights Of All Students
Labeling and the rights of all students to access education Rights baseds and needs based Selecting a
school for your child can be based on various reasons depending on what you are looking for whether
it is scholarships they offer, location even public perception (Hobsons, 2015). Ideally every parent
wants the utter most best for their child. Unfortunately some parents get lost and focus mainly towards
a specific achievement or offer which may not always be within the best interest of the child. For
example Bryson goes to South High School as they supply the best football opportunities. While he is
doing well in physical education in class work is suffering, falling behind as they don t offer Bryson
the one on one attention he needs to succeed. Labeling is a process of creating descriptors to identify
persons who differ from the norm (White, 2014). Labeling is required to be included in special
education (Government, 2005). Under current law, to receive special education services, a child must
be identified as having a disability and, in most cases, must be further classified into one of that state s
categories, such as mental retardation or learning disabilities (Heward, 2010). Some parents struggle
with the idea of placing their beloved child in a special school unwilling to accept the Label (Heward,
2010). This Label can stop parents from allowing their child to receive the best possible treatment in
developing their Childs knowledge and physical/personal

Agreements And Enforcement Mechanism And Its Effectiveness
Trade Marks:
Compliance and Enforcement mechanism and its effectiveness to deal with the problem
The Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) sets down minimum
standards for many forms of intellectual property (IP) regulation as applied to nationals of other WTO
Members. It is s an international agreement administered by the World Trade Organization (WTO)
that.
Scenario in India:
In 1994 TRIPS (The agreement on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights) came into
existence and hence in accordance with it the Indian laws got amended from old Indian Trade and
Merchandise Marks Act, 1958 to new Trade Marks Act, 1999
In India, a combined civil action for infringement of trademark and passing off can be initiated. For
sustaining a civil or criminal action against violation of trademarks in India registration of a trademark
is not a pre requisite.
Infringement:
These are the violation of the exclusive rights given to the proprietor who has registered the trade
mark. These involves usage of the similar looking or replica of the registered trade mark for their
unsolicited benefits without permission or authorization from the proprietor who has registered the
trade mark. Also if someone has use some trademark and have not registered it, in that case Indian law
protect the one who has used it first from the one who has registered it giving benefit of doubt to the
one who come up with it earlier.
Infringement is also viable for criminal

The Nature Of The Green Light In The Great Gatsby
In The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the symbolic nature of the green light conveys the
message that holding onto a fantasy for too long can lead to loss of reality. One ominous midnight,
Nick, Mr. Jay Gatsby s neighbor, observes a strange man standing still in his well kept lawn looking
only into the bay and something about that man in his leisurely movements and the secure position of
his feet upon the lawn suggested that it was Mr. Gatsby , without knowing his intentions Nick glanced
seaward and distinguished nothing except a single green light, minute and far away (Fitzgerald 25 26).
Gatsby s specific stance and focused stare signifies the lack of interest he possesses for the remaining
parts of his life at that moment. When

Fozen And The Snow Queen Analysis
Frozen, a spinoff of The Snow Queen, promotes feminism within society and proves the bond between
sisters is capable of healing a frozen heart. The 2013 film illuminates female empowerment and also
displays the concept of child development through Bettleheim s theories. In The Uses Of
Enchantment:The Meaning and Importance of Fairy Tales, Austrian psychoanalyst Bruno Bettelheim
uses fairy tales to display his theories of childhood development. Society questions whether the
updated versions should contain childhood developmental theories by Bettleheim. The film Frozen
and The Snow Queen share commonalities and contrasts through Bettleheim s theories of fatality
within in one s family and the polarities of characters which are revealed through both the plots and
characters. Frozen displays Bettelheim s theory of fatality and its effects on characters through the plot
of the film. Bettelheim discusses how the loss of a parent leads to disastrous events ( Bettleheim 8). In
addition to this theory, the parents death in Frozen symbolizes a period of darkness within the film.
Darkness is displayed through the lacking of communication between the sisters and the insecurities
Elsa faces over her powers. The phrase conceal don t feel, is constantly mentioned throughout the film
(Frozen. Directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, Jennifer Lee and Yasuhiko Nemoto.). This phrase
is symbolic of her parents wanting her to conform to societal norms by not revealing what makes her
unique. In this case it relates to her powers, however, in a real life situation, it could relate to a person
s sexuality, one s political stance, or one s beliefs in general. These insecurities cause Elsa to develop
social anxiety against her sister .Furthermore, Elsa differs from the Snow Queen, because, she is
illustrated as a conflicted heroine within the film. The performance of Let it Go represents Elsa s
freedom from the criticisms of society. Ironically the plot in Frozen differs from the original tale
entitled, The Snow Queen .
Additionally the theming of darkness within The Snow Queen, is illuminated through Bettleheim s
theory of fatality. Bettelheim s theory of fatality does not occur

Little Rock Central High School Research Paper
The road to the historic desegregation of Little Rock Central High school began in the 1930 s when
the NAACP tasked future Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall with fighting segregation in
schools. By 1950 he had helped to strike down segregation in universities in several states. In 1951,
the NAACP aided parents of black children attending public schools in Topeka, Kansas in attempting
to overturn the state s segregation laws. After a three year court battle, the 1954 Supreme Court case
Brown v. Board of Education Topeka culminated in the abolishment of school segregation laws in 21
states. (Seeds 1)

President Eisenhower federalized the Arkansas National Guard and ordered over 1000 men from the

Dr. Zimbardo s The Lucifer Effect
For centuries we have found means of humiliating, demeaning, killing and torturing each other, and
cited various reasons for the same: country, religion, law, war, race, superiority, superstition and
various other reasons. Our history is overflowing with blood poured out sometimes for heroic deeds
but often for a means to gain power. I have often speculated on the reason behind these violations of
human dignity and killing, when every religion and social culture promotes good will and condemns
evil. So what makes good people turn the corner between good and evil? We often see evil as an
outside force interrupting our lives! We consider evil an entity or quality that is inherent in some
people, that turn people into monsters! ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1971, Dr. Zimbardo as a young psychologist at Stanford University, CA conducted an experiment
on prison behavior where normal, run of the mill liberal undergraduate students volunteers were
divided into two groups, prisoners and guards . Even though students knew, that it was an artificial
situation, the guards, assumed a sense of power and tormented, tortured and sexually humiliated their
prisoners regardless of the fact that they knew that the prisoners had done no wrong. The prisoners
were brainwashed into a role of helplessness, dejection and acceptance of their faith. Zimbardo and his
colleagues got so carried away with how well the experiment was turning out, that he did nothing to
stop it! They had all lost their moral compass in this situation! It was probably déjà vu for Dr.
Zimbardo when in April 2004, a news channel, 60 Minutes II, broke the story on Abu Ghraib and
telecast shocking photographs as evidence of human cruelty and human rights violations carried out
by American soldiers on Iraqi detainees at the Abu Ghraib prison. The pictures included naked Iraqi
captives piled in a human pyramid, prisoner s lead around on a leash by guards, prisoners forced to
engage in sexual acts, dogs intimidating prisoners, a hooded inmate balanced on a cardboard box and
electric wires attached to his fingers to mention a few. In some photographs, the guards are seen

Kazu Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go
Throughout Kazu Ishiguro s novel Never Let Me Go, he choices to depict children as outsiders to the
world which can be furthered by the setting in Britain s countryside because it helps give a sense
distance from true reality. In the framework throughout his novel Ishiguro focuses on three main
characters Kathy, Ruth, and Tommy. These three students are seen by others to have an advantage
because they were lucky enough to be raised at Hailsham by the guardians. Over the watchful eye of
the Guardians the children were able to grow accustom to being different than others. This can be seen
when the characters all mature and grow after they leave Hailsham and become accustomed to life at

This was the tipping point for teachers at Hailsham because now their work was in the spotlight and
outsiders did not support their methods. This directly correlates with the closing of Hailsham because
it questions the motives behind schools like Hailsham and their ultimate goal of education. One major
worry for society at this time in the novel is that these cloned children will eventually replace normal
ones in everyday life.
Throughout the novel the fear of the unknown stands outs not just to the outside world and their
perceptions of clones but also the children growing up at Hailsham The most common criticism that is
raised to cloning in general is that it entitles one to start playing God. Throughout the novel, Ishiguro
examines many other ways that individuals might play God. This can be seen when Chrissie and
Rodney try to change their fate by getting a deferral while in return they are playing God much to the
extent the scientists who created them in the first place were. The organ donation program was started
in the first place on the idea that the clones owe their lives to society, and should be prepared to
sacrifice themselves later in their life. Thus at any given time the clones should be ready for their job
which designates them to lose some organ. Madame further emphasizes the life a clone during her

Carl Sanburg Grass Analysis
Most times, it s just a lot easier not to let the world know what s wrong. says Chuck Palahniuk, and
American Author. Covering things up is one thing that humanity has officially mastered. Humanity
constantly fights, kills, and commits horrid acts; sometimes even for no good reason at all. But who is
the one that will always be there to cover it up? Well, in Carl Sanburg s poem Grass , that who is the
grass itself. It becomes clear that no human can cover up his or her own mistakes, so the grass has to
be the one to do the dirty work. Carl Sanburg, in his poem Grass , uses proper nouns, syntax, and
imperative tense to prove that humanity will repeatedly try to destroy itself, and the grass will always
hold the power to cover it up. Bunker Hill, Yorktown, and Normandy are all great battles in American
history, and they are also distinguished choices for proper nouns when trying to prove the point of
human destruction. However, Sanburg didn t use these proper nouns. He wrote about Austerlitz ,
Waterloo , Gettysburg , Ypres , and Verdun . (1, 3, 4, 5) While Gettysburg was a pivotal point in
American history, it was not chosen in this text for the size of the battle, but rather for the number of
casualties and for the amount of blood spilled on the battlefield. In fact, all of these battles were
chosen for this same reason. But why would an author choose battles with more casualties over battles
that are better known for a massive victory, or even a massive loss? This

B2b Exchanges And Business Activity Perspective
Business to business (B2B) exchanges or marketplaces provide dramatic opportunities to automate
collaborative business processes with customers and suppliers, generate internal efficiencies, and
reach new markets at minimal cost. (Kenjale Phatak, 2002)
The epigraph quote from a 2002 article in the CRM magazine provides the commonly used and
accepted definition of Business to Business (B2B) exchanges. The key differentiating attributes of the
B2B Exchanges from the Business to Consumer (B2C) exchanges are: the target customers (Business
customers such as Resellers, Industrial market, etc.); the nature of demand which is derived based on
consumer demand; and the exchange process which are more formal in nature (more purchase ...

Dell s inclusion of chip maker Intel and AMD into its exchange. The Horizontal market is a wider
supply market that cuts across several industries, such as FedEx and UPS providing transportation and
logistical exchanges for a wide variety of businesses. The Internet provides an immense resource
value to both markets. In the vertical market, the dominant resource benefit is derived from the lower
costs of buyers operations, lower inventory requirements as well as the removal of distribution
channel blockages such as agents and brokers where a Just in time (JIT) manufacturing is

liquidity in the market, reduction of geographical and logistical barriers and more.
The second perspective considering the Procurement stages is also noted in the book Digital Business
Concepts and Strategy as, Three types of B2B exchanges often illustrate the history of the relationship
between a seller and a buyer: new buy, modified rebut, and straight rebuy (Coupey, 2005, p. 367)
which takes the vantage point of procurement activities. In a new buy procurement situation is
encountered by building new exchange relationships where the burden of all the procurement process

Theme Across Genre
Comparing a Theme Across Genres Sometimes people are faced with a disaster that they do not have
control over. This tragedy may result in deadly outcomes. In the story, Titanic, written by Hanson W.
Baldwin and in the story, Notes from a Bottle, written by James Stevenson both portray a disaster that
happened to many individuals that may or may not have cost them their lives. Fictional stories have a
more emotional impact on readers, and they develop feelings for the characters. On the other hand,
non fictional stories are more factual, and are more real than they are personal. In the story, Titanic, by
Hanson W. Baldwin a ship sailed the ocean on April 10, 1912 from Southampton to New York called

In the story, Titanic, author Hanson W. Baldwin uses factual information to support his main idea
about the tragedy of the shipwreck, Titanic. Baldwin states facts to make the story more realistic. For
example, he uses time to let the readers know how fast the ship sunk after hitting the iceberg. Towards
the end of the story Baldwin writes, The Titanic had carried boats enough for 1,178 persons, only one
third of her capacity. Her sixteen boats and four collapsibles had saved but 711 persons; 400 people
had needlessly lost their lives. (Baldwin, 405). Baldwin uses these facts to make the story more
realistic by stating how many people were saved, and how many died. The characters support the
theme that nobody knows the situation they are walking into until it actually

Golden Age Research Paper
In the 19th Century, The Jews Muslims and Christians living in Spain experienced a golden age. The
golden age was a time of great peace and prosperity among the nations due to the Muslim s
acceptance, accommodation and peaceful relations with the Jews and Christians. This golden age
began when the Muslims began conquering the Iberian Peninsula in 711. When Islam was first
founded, it was only practiced within the borders of Arabia(modern day Saudi Arabia). However, the
Muslims began converting large numbers of indigenous tribes, who resided across North Africa as
well as in Asia, and in this way, Islam started to spread. The people of these indigenous tribes were

For the first time since their exile from Jerusalem in the year 70CE, they had the opportunity to
participate fully in society. The Muslims were tolerant rulers who wanted all their citizens, whether
Muslim, Jewish or Christian to participate in the life of the new commonwealth they had founded. In
wake of the new tolerant Muslim leaders, a golden age of Jewish immigration dawned in Al Andalus.
Middle Eastern as well as North African Jewish immigrants poured into Al Andals by the thousands.
At the Jewish population s peak in the 10th century, Al Andalus was by far the largest Jewish centre in
all of Europe. Jews were very well integrated and had phenomenal access to the highest levels of
power. The Jews were especially well integrated into economic and social life, regularly doing
business and interacting with Muslims. Society was very open and Muslims rulers were not threatened
by the minorities and were accommodating. Al Andalus, once a mere outpost of the Islamic kingdom
becomes a bustling centre of European trade. Viking ships from the North sea as well as merchants
from the Islamic capital of Baghdad bring an influx of goods to Al Andalus. The Jewish merchants
brought treasures from far and wide and the honesty of the Muslims helped to regulate the market.
This example demonstrates how coexistence lead to extremely notable achievements. Within 1
century, the Muslims and Jews built a civilization that exceeded every other European country. By the
8th century s end, the land was the most productive, populated and diverse in all of Europe, staying so
for many centuries. During this prosperous period, Al Andalus was exporting and importing more than
double the amount of goods than its neighbors. Trade with other European countries was unmatched

Reflection On Social Justice
Georg Christoph Lichtenberg once said I cannot say whether things will get better if we change; what
I can say is that they must change if they are to get better. Injustices can be explained as something
that is not to everybody s benefit, or simply something this is unfair. Going into this class, I did not
know much about social justice or cities in general. After being in it for a short 3 weeks, I have
learned a lot of new material and am excited to learn more. I believe that social justice is a
combination of the opportunities and freedoms within the different socioeconomic classes.
Growing up so close to Des Moines, I feel as if I have had plenty of experiences all of which helped
shape my views on social justice. I have lived in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are two things that immediately come to mind when I think about social justice in the real
world. Education is one. Typically, people are more prone to go to college if their parents or siblings
go to college. Going back to the topic of East Des Moines, East high school is not a school that is
looked well upon. The teachers are underpaid and most of the students do not care about their
education enough to go to class everyday. Knowing this, students from schools like that are less likely
to go on to college and get an education. This then leads to them not getting good jobs and making
enough money to support themselves. I believe that this is an injustice because those students do not
choose to go to schools like that, but they get started off on the wrong foot right from the start. People
look down on them because of the school they go to. The other thing I think about when I hear the
word social justice is Racism. Segregation is something that most people don t think is still a problem,
but unfortunately it is. They view segregation as an unfortunate holdover from a racist past, one that is
fading progressively overtime (Massey 1). African American people that live in rougher
neighborhoods, Chicago for example, are usually in the lower socioeconomic class. Being an African
American in the lower socioeconomic class makes it easy for white people to look down on them.

The main objective of this paper is to examine the effects of HIV/AIDS scourge on labour force
productivity of Adamawa state households. 2. Problem Statement The health status of the people in
any country is a critical element in the growth of its economy as well as an important factor in the
overall quality of life. AIDS tend to selectively affect women, youths, which are the vulnerable
groups; it will influence a wide range of social and economic factors. In Adamawa State, agriculture is
the dominant industry; high rate of infection could lead to the stagnation of the industry. Recent
studies have revealed that HIV/AIDS prevalence among women and youths is increasingly worrisome.
The target is the most productive group of the population (15 49 groups). 3. Literature Review and

exclusively on the role of capital and labour (The later often augmented by schooling and

Aaron Fuerstein Research Paper
Wow, that s all I can say, what an amazing story of a business man who truly cares for humanity.
There is not many individuals who would have acted as the owner of Malden Mills, Aaron Feuerstein.
Malden Mills was a textile plant in Lawrence, Massachusetts which burned to the ground one night
after a devastating fire. The company employed a large amount of the townspeople, the fire caused all
of them to be out of a job. Aaron Feuerstein went out of his way to protect and ensure that the
individual whom worked for him still be able to bringing in an income and pay their bills. He felt
extremely responsible for them, whilst he could have taken the insurance money from the fire and
retired with it. Instead he paid months worth of all the employee s

The Cuban Missile Crisis Of 1962
The Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 was the closest the world came to nuclear war. The Soviet Union
shipped nuclear missile to Cuba clandestinely and were discovered by the United States. While the
confrontation did not result in open nuclear warfare between the US and USSR, the US Intelligence
Community (IC) was taken by surprise. How did the IC not notice the buildup of Soviet nuclear
weapons in Cuba? The information was there despite the best Russian denial and deception attempts.
The United States intelligence and military analysts allowed themselves to be deceived by the
Russians because they did not anticipate the Russians would station nuclear weapons outside the
Soviet Union. A closer look will show why the Russian deception worked for so long and why the US
was forced to react quickly to a crisis that could have easily spiraled into nuclear war. In October of
1962, a US U 2 reconnaissance flight over Cuba yielded photographic evidence that the Soviet Union
had installed medium and intermediate range ballistic missiles. President Kennedy over the next
thirteen days frantically tried to get the missiles removed without a war. President Kennedy went with
his Executive Committee working group and set up a naval quarantine of Cuba and gave Soviet
Premier Khrushchev a deadline for removing the missiles. After six days of diplomatic overtures and
increased military tensions, the Soviet Union withdrew the missiles. President Kennedy agreed to

Mirror Motifs In Persepolis
Marjane Satrapi s Persepolis recounts the conflicts and disillusionment as a result of living through the
tyrannies of the Shah s and the Islamic regimes. Her main motive was to keep alive the spirit of those
Iranians who lost their lives in wars fought for freedom, suffered under repressive regimes or who
were forced to leave their families. It highlights the daily conflict between tradition and modernity,
West and East, dictatorship and individual freedom. Marjane has used several motifs, such as the veil,
the mirror, background panels to emphasize on the situation in Iran and this essay focuses on how the
veil becomes the dominant motif for portraying the suppression of individual freedom, knowledge ...

One of these incidents occurs when Marjane is in art school. When the students were told that they

nothing when watching these men with their clothes sculpted on but they, as men, can get excited by
two inches less of my head scarf? here Marjane questions the restrictiveness of the veil and comments
on the injustice in Muslim society and the gender inequality. The veil represent the repressions and the
gender injustices in Iran. By revolting against the veil Marjane is able to protest the repressions. On
hearing Marjanes complaint, the school administrators asked Satrapi to design her own veil. Marjane

Coming Of Age Theme Essay
The Theme of Coming of Age in Literature There comes a time is each person s life when they reach
the point where they are no longer children, but adults. The transition from a child into a young adult
is often referred to as the coming of age, or growing up. The time when this transition occurs is
different in everyone, since everyone is an individual and no two people are alike. Certain children
reach this stage through a tragic, painful event which affects them to such extent that they are
completely changed.
Other children reach this time by simply growing older and having a better understanding of the world
around them. The coming of age really is indefinite and cannot be marked in general overview. This

They affirm community solidarity, and the sacredness of common values. (1995, Grolier
Encyclopedia) In addition, cultures use initiation ceremonies to mark the transition from childhood to
adult status. Rites for males are usually more elaborate and dramatic and generally involve the
community more than do those for females. Among the African Gus ii, for example, girls are at about
age nine, boys at twelve years old; Thong a boys may be sixteen. Boys rites often involve seclusion
from women, hazing by older males, test of manliness, and genital operations, including circumcision.
Girls rites are just as bad if not worse with things like removal of the clitoris.
In some places in North America, the ritual is individual where as in Africa and Oceania the ritual can
be collective. A plain Indian adolescent boy undertakes a vision quest; he goes out alone intothe
wilderness, endures hardship, and seeks a vision from his animal guardian spirit; if he gets one, he
returns a man. Yet a different way for these rituals is group rituals. These often takes months or even
years, as among many Australian aboriginal tribes. Novices learn great quantities of information and
obey countless taboos. Instructors are men who are strangers to boys.
Ritual pulls the boy from childhood, especially from his mother. He moves from the category of
women and privileged children toward the privileged one of the adult males. Such rites maintain adult
male togetherness and strengthen

Religion In The 19th Century
A set of beliefs, rituals, and practices that serve to define the matter of existence; religion. Present in
society, religion sets precedents unifying its followers but religion also can prove to be a centrifugal
force within large countries. The more diverse a country is, the more it fosters different views and
perspectives. These opposing sides happen to restrict reforming policies in government and affects
societal norms. This is exemplified in the Ottoman Empire, where its state religion of Islam became
costly in creating a cohesive life for its citizens. During the 19th century, the Muslim world lost a lot
of its cultural and political sovereignty which indicated a shift in the political landscape of the world
and a technological gap between both societies (Baraz, 2010). The Ottoman government failed to
initiate any progress and exercised a conservative approach to issues. This method completely

Unfortunately for the minorities, they had to pay taxes such as the jizya. This action taken by the
Ottoman government showed a preference to who they supported which then spurred ideas of
independence or revolution from different religious groups or even sects such as Jews. The ethnic

The Quest For Power In Shakespeare s Macbeth
The quest for power has its negative consequences. Gaining power benefits the abuser by giving them
power and control. Depending on how you gain power could define if it s positive or negative. The
world wouldn t be as it is today, if it wasn t for the negative and positive obstacles we faced.
Sometimes, in order to achieve power, abuses occur and people are hurt or taken advantage of along
the way. During imperialism weaker countries were exploited by the countries on a quest for power
and in the story The Tragedy of Macbeth, Lady Macbeth and Macbeth killed the king to gain total
power.(Shakespeare 233) The cost of power sometimes requires a steep price. Should the U.S. have

of the speech, MacArthur is trying to bring attention the preserving nature he saw in the soldiers

MacArthur includes multiple instances with alliteration for the sake of grabbing the audience s

Holmes addresses Watson by asking a rhetorical question. When he gets back from his club, the
detectives gives some advice. Holmes says that some answers are right in front of you and tries to
build Watson as a detective. Just tell me what it all means,Watson and I ll owe you more than ever I
can hope to pay. When Sir Henry addresses Watson this way , it gives latter the rare opportunity to
play the head detective. Watson s means of attempting to answer questions like this provides a layout
to Holmes s method. I knew that seclusion and solitude were very necessary for my friend in those
hours of intense mental conception during which he weighed every particle of evidence, constructed
alternative theories, balanced one against the other , and made up his mind as to which points were
essential and which immaterials. Watson explains one of Holmes s method. Throughout the book
Watson is always left out of the problem solving. Watson supports Holmes as a detective and
completely defends Holmes and reflects the quality that Holmes makes use of people

Of Mice And Men Movie And Book Comparison Essay
Multitudes of well known films are derived from novels; however, despite the majority of the accurate
depictions, these adaptations contain several varying scenes as compared to the book. For example,
John Steinbeck s novella Of Mice and Men and the 1992 movie version share similar elements, yet the
movie strays from the original source material. While the portrayal of the characters are accurate,
certain important segments are added or deleted. Therefore, despite the correspondence of the 1992 Of
Mice and Men movie to the novella, they re not exact representations of one another. While movie
adaptations often have inaccurate portrayals of the novel s characters, the Of Mice and Men movie is
one of the exceptions. John Malkovich does a magnificent job of portraying Lennie s childlike
mannerisms; coupled with his physical appearance, Malkovich appears to be the exact embodiment of
Lennie. One major element of Lennie s character is his mental handicap, which is shown through ...

The Yama s and Niyama s are the ten ethical precepts that allow us to be at peace with ourselves, our

that deal with social discipline and Niyamas are the ethical precepts that deal with individual

resonated the most with me during my exploration of the Yamas and Niyamas are Tapas, a Niyama

having self discipline can keep me on track when it comes to being productive and achieving my

Brief Summary Of The Movie Big Fish
The movie Big Fish was produced in 2003. Big Fish is about a dying man, Edward, and his son, Will.
The movie consists of several flashbacks following Edward Blooms life and his adventures. It shows
how Edward and his son s relationship was very strained and then how it was resolved in the end.
There were also a great number of fantasy aspects in this movie that make the movie very unique.
These fantasies are mainly in the stories that Edward tells his son. They show how Edward Bloom
lived his life and how he made life choices knowing how he would die. Edward Bloom and his son s
relationship was not very strong. Edward was always out of town because of his salesman job. When
Edward and his son, Will, actually talked Edward would tell his son stories about his life and his
adventures. As Will grew older, he did not believe the fantasies that were in the stories that he told.

Motivation Statement For Motivation In Psychology
In this statement I describe my motivation for seeking graduate training in psychology at Georgia
State University. It is my aim to continue my education in psychology, with the goal of pursuing a
career that contributes to our understanding of cognitive abilities in both humans and non human
primates. My involvement in the academic community at the University of Georgia has contributed
greatly to the refinement of my academic and career goals. Through my involvement in service
organizations such as the Undergraduate Neuroscience Organization (UNO), I have gained a greater
interest in how studies of the brain contribute to our understanding of the causes and treatment of
neurodegenerative diseases. I have theoretical research interests in comparative cognition, human
animal studies, and primate behavior. Specifically, I am interested in how cognitive abilities such as
memory and attention function in primates and how this functioning compares to that of humans.
These research interests developed throughout my undergraduate coursework, research, and internship
experiences. As an undergraduate student at the University of Georgia, I have taken a holistic
approach to my education, combining a psychological and anthropological perspective to understand
how the brain works both individually and across different species. I am confident that my education
thus far has prepared me for the rigor of interdisciplinary doctoral coursework. My undergraduate

Research Paper On Emperor Penguins
In relation to their swimming adaptations, Emperor penguins also need to be able to dive to great
depths in order to retrieve vital resources such as food. Emperor penguins tend to hunt for quick,
midwater squid as well as fish and therefore they need to be capable of diving to relatively deeper and
remain submerged for longer period of time, in relation to other penguin species. Emperor penguins
can dive to depths of approximately 550 565 metres towards the sea floor which is known as the
twilight zone where less light is able to penetrate the surface of the water. Emperor penguins are also

This is because the female Emperor desires a partner who is able to survive throughout the
unfavourable environment during the long fasting period whilst incubating the egg produced by the
female. Once the female lays her egg, both parents alternate between incubating and protecting the
eggs as well as caring for the chicks once they re hatched while the female hunts for food. So, while
the female returns to sea in order to forage food, the male is left to fend for him and his egg and
consequently chicks, this can last for approximately 2 months and the male penguins can potentially
lose up to 45% (potentially 20 kilograms) of their overall body fat over the breeding season.
Therefore, it is incredibly important for a female to find a fat partner, as the larger the partner, the
longer he will be able to fast while she forages for food, and protect their eggs and consequently their
chicks. To emphasize and flaunt their size, the male Emperor penguins produce a call of sorts in order
to attract a suitable female, whilst performing and waving their flippers/wings around in order to draw
attention to themselves. Dependant on the density of the male s layer of fat surrounding its voice box
and consequently the overall size of the male s chest cavity, the tone of the call produced will either be
suitable or unsuitable decided on said

  • 2. How Narrative Elements Shape Qualitative Research Literature Review Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts (Eigen Arnett Educational Cultural Foundation Inc, 2010). Karri Holley and Julia Colyar (2012) coauthors of the article Under Construction: How Narrative Elements Shape Qualitative Research addresses three stories that shape the features of qualitative research. The three narratives; Plot the DNA of the narrative; Point of View the author s connection to the narrative; Authorial Distance the author s location within the text and Character function as the avenues for audience investment in the topic of the qualitative research. These three narratives outline the story found at the beginning and end of qualitative research. The module of the narrative elements demonstrates narrative constructs offer but one approach toward mapping the complex, hidden dimensions of experience (2012). Thesis Qualitative research involves the process of discovering not only what people think but also why they believe it. The object is to get people to discuss their stance, beliefs, or viewpoints to acquire an understanding of their feelings and motivation. The qualitative research utilizes in depth small group studies to steer and assists the development of theory. The outcome of qualitative research tends to be indicative of the opinion of the researcher rather than estimated. Qualitative Methods and Tools There are three conventional qualitative methods ... • 4. Light Pollution Effects of Light Pollution on Ecosystems Intro Over time, human populations have been exponentially increasing. This growth has led to a major increase in demand for resources and space. To achieve their goals, humans have caused major changes in the surrounding ecosystems in many ways. First, they have cleared many areas thriving with organisms to build roads and cities destroying different ecosystems. Second, they have overharvested many species for food and resources causing many species to go extinct. Lastly, they have polluted natural habitats in numerous ways declining species biodiversity. Many people are familiar with pollution such as air pollution, trash pollution, and chemical pollution. However, a less apparent type of pollution that is equally important is the pollution of artificial lighting. Over the past hundred plus years artificial lighting has increased in use dramatically. From 1992 to 2013 there has been an increase in light intensity on coastal zones of about 42% (Brei et al. 2016). This increasing use of light has had major impacts on surrounding species on land and in water. Many organisms are nocturnal or depend on light cues to go on through normal daily activities such as foraging, migration, and reproduction. This disruption in schedule has seen to have major impacts on varied species. La Sorte et al. (2017) shows how light pollution affects nocturnal migrating birds. These birds seemed to be attracted to highly lit urban areas disrupting natural behaviors like migration. Perkin et al. (2014) displays how artificial lighting can affect insects and their ability to properly disperse throughout areas. Although light pollution has shown to affect many diverse types of organisms on land, marine organisms have also been affected. Due to the increase in artificial light pollution, the marine environment can have disruptions which lead to trophic cascades, changes in behaviors, and changes in interactions among and between marine species resulting in a loss of biodiversity. If humans keep on the same track they have been, then biodiversity will be lost, so they must think of solutions to combat and reduce the effects artificial light pollution has on biodiversity. Trophic Cascades One of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Let There Be Light And There Is Light Essay And God said, Let there be light, and there was light (Genesis 1:3). This sentence can be the most famous sentence that has ever been written. When the light was created, the faith of the universe, earth and humanity were completely redesigned. The control of our universe was given to its owner, light. We were born into a universe that light governs us. However, we couldn t realize it in a short span of time. After that moment, the perception of humanity towards light, a mysterious phenomenon, has altered a lot; nevertheless, light has never lost its meaning of being fundamental for anything related to human, conversely, we discovered beyond what we knew about it. Light exhibited its significance since the existence of early humans. Thousands ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sean Vander Meulen says, Greek philosophers thought that light was coming from our eyes. Then we understood that light is made of particles that bounce from the things around us. Now, we are not sure about whether it is made of particles of waves. We will never be done with light. If we will be, then physics will be done, too. (Vander Meulen). Light is not a concept that concerns about only one topic. It covers all the things that humanity deals with. That is the reason why our perception towards light is always in a process of change. Thus, future includes limitless of new perceptions of light for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Labeling And The Rights Of All Students Labeling and the rights of all students to access education Rights baseds and needs based Selecting a school for your child can be based on various reasons depending on what you are looking for whether it is scholarships they offer, location even public perception (Hobsons, 2015). Ideally every parent wants the utter most best for their child. Unfortunately some parents get lost and focus mainly towards a specific achievement or offer which may not always be within the best interest of the child. For example Bryson goes to South High School as they supply the best football opportunities. While he is doing well in physical education in class work is suffering, falling behind as they don t offer Bryson the one on one attention he needs to succeed. Labeling is a process of creating descriptors to identify persons who differ from the norm (White, 2014). Labeling is required to be included in special education (Government, 2005). Under current law, to receive special education services, a child must be identified as having a disability and, in most cases, must be further classified into one of that state s categories, such as mental retardation or learning disabilities (Heward, 2010). Some parents struggle with the idea of placing their beloved child in a special school unwilling to accept the Label (Heward, 2010). This Label can stop parents from allowing their child to receive the best possible treatment in developing their Childs knowledge and physical/personal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scott Fitzgerald, the symbolic nature of the green light conveys the message that holding onto a fantasy for too long can lead to loss of reality. One ominous midnight, Nick, Mr. Jay Gatsby s neighbor, observes a strange man standing still in his well kept lawn looking only into the bay and something about that man in his leisurely movements and the secure position of his feet upon the lawn suggested that it was Mr. Gatsby , without knowing his intentions Nick glanced seaward and distinguished nothing except a single green light, minute and far away (Fitzgerald 25 26). • 10. Fozen And The Snow Queen Analysis Frozen, a spinoff of The Snow Queen, promotes feminism within society and proves the bond between sisters is capable of healing a frozen heart. The 2013 film illuminates female empowerment and also displays the concept of child development through Bettleheim s theories. In The Uses Of Enchantment:The Meaning and Importance of Fairy Tales, Austrian psychoanalyst Bruno Bettelheim uses fairy tales to display his theories of childhood development. Society questions whether the updated versions should contain childhood developmental theories by Bettleheim. The film Frozen and The Snow Queen share commonalities and contrasts through Bettleheim s theories of fatality within in one s family and the polarities of characters which are revealed through both the plots and characters. Frozen displays Bettelheim s theory of fatality and its effects on characters through the plot of the film. Bettelheim discusses how the loss of a parent leads to disastrous events ( Bettleheim 8). In addition to this theory, the parents death in Frozen symbolizes a period of darkness within the film. Darkness is displayed through the lacking of communication between the sisters and the insecurities Elsa faces over her powers. The phrase conceal don t feel, is constantly mentioned throughout the film (Frozen. Directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, Jennifer Lee and Yasuhiko Nemoto.). This phrase is symbolic of her parents wanting her to conform to societal norms by not revealing what makes her unique. In this case it relates to her powers, however, in a real life situation, it could relate to a person s sexuality, one s political stance, or one s beliefs in general. These insecurities cause Elsa to develop social anxiety against her sister .Furthermore, Elsa differs from the Snow Queen, because, she is illustrated as a conflicted heroine within the film. The performance of Let it Go represents Elsa s freedom from the criticisms of society. Ironically the plot in Frozen differs from the original tale entitled, The Snow Queen . Additionally the theming of darkness within The Snow Queen, is illuminated through Bettleheim s theory of fatality. Bettelheim s theory of fatality does not occur ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dr. Zimbardo s The Lucifer Effect For centuries we have found means of humiliating, demeaning, killing and torturing each other, and cited various reasons for the same: country, religion, law, war, race, superiority, superstition and various other reasons. Our history is overflowing with blood poured out sometimes for heroic deeds but often for a means to gain power. I have often speculated on the reason behind these violations of human dignity and killing, when every religion and social culture promotes good will and condemns evil. So what makes good people turn the corner between good and evil? We often see evil as an outside force interrupting our lives! It becomes clear that no human can cover up his or her own mistakes, so the grass has to be the one to do the dirty work. Carl Sanburg, in his poem Grass , uses proper nouns, syntax, and imperative tense to prove that humanity will repeatedly try to destroy itself, and the grass will always hold the power to cover it up. Bunker Hill, Yorktown, and Normandy are all great battles in American history, and they are also distinguished choices for proper nouns when trying to prove the point of human destruction. However, Sanburg didn t use these proper nouns. He wrote about Austerlitz , Waterloo , Gettysburg , Ypres , and Verdun . Typically, people are more prone to go to college if their parents or siblings go to college. Going back to the topic of East Des Moines, East high school is not a school that is looked well upon. The teachers are underpaid and most of the students do not care about their education enough to go to class everyday. Knowing this, students from schools like that are less likely to go on to college and get an education. This then leads to them not getting good jobs and making enough money to support themselves. I believe that this is an injustice because those students do not choose to go to schools like that, but they get started off on the wrong foot right from the start. People look down on them because of the school they go to. The other thing I think about when I hear the word social justice is Racism. During the speech, MacArthur exhibits consonance so he can place an eloquently spoken phrase which also grabs the audience s attention. In particular, MacArhur inaugurates consonance when he narrates, on many a weary march from dripping dusk to drizzling dawn (MacArthur 2). In this portion of the speech, MacArthur is trying to bring attention the preserving nature he saw in the soldiers during World War I. The reason that MacArthur implanted consonance was to bring focus on the evidence he was including and create a more visual and thought to provoke ideas. In the same way, MacArthur includes multiple instances with alliteration for the sake of grabbing the audience s attention on certain moments during his speech. One such instance where MacArthur wants to gain the scrutiny of the audience is when MacArhur says, but to symbolize a great moral code the code of conduct and chivalry of those who guard this beloved land of culture (MacArthur 1). When Sir Henry addresses Watson this way , it gives latter the rare opportunity to play the head detective. Watson s means of attempting to answer questions like this provides a layout to Holmes s method. I knew that seclusion and solitude were very necessary for my friend in those hours of intense mental conception during which he weighed every particle of evidence, constructed alternative theories, balanced one against the other , and made up his mind as to which points were essential and which immaterials. Watson explains one of Holmes s method. Throughout the book Watson is always left out of the problem solving. • 31. Of Mice And Men Movie And Book Comparison Essay Multitudes of well known films are derived from novels; however, despite the majority of the accurate depictions, these adaptations contain several varying scenes as compared to the book. For example, John Steinbeck s novella Of Mice and Men and the 1992 movie version share similar elements, yet the movie strays from the original source material. While the portrayal of the characters are accurate, certain important segments are added or deleted. Therefore, despite the correspondence of the 1992 Of Mice and Men movie to the novella, they re not exact representations of one another. While movie adaptations often have inaccurate portrayals of the novel s characters, the Of Mice and Men movie is one of the exceptions. John Malkovich does a magnificent job of portraying Lennie s childlike mannerisms; coupled with his physical appearance, Malkovich appears to be the exact embodiment of Lennie. Yama Study A Study and Application of Yama and Niyama Principles The Yama s and Niyama s are the ten ethical precepts that allow us to be at peace with ourselves, our family, and our community, according to Donna Farhi of Healthy.net. Yamas are the ethical precepts that deal with social discipline and Niyamas are the ethical precepts that deal with individual discipline (Iyengar, Brad). There are ten principles, five Yamas and five Niyamas. The principles that resonated the most with me during my exploration of the Yamas and Niyamas are Tapas, a Niyama principle and Aparigrah, a Yama principle. The Yama principle, Aparigrah, is about taking only what you need and no more (Parnell, Deva). It is about non greed and non possessiveness. This principle ... I do not feel like I have mastered any of the Yama or Niyama principles, but, I feel like I am off to the best start in the Aparigrah and Tapas principles because of the noticeable effect they have had on my life thus far. I think that in order to live a better life I have to remember to keep things in perspective and maintain self discipline. I think this because I believe that negative emotions such as jealousy can be minimized by remembering how short and meaningful life can be and how it is not worth it to worry about small valueless things. Also, having self discipline can keep me on track when it comes to being productive and achieving my goals. This will affect others because I believe when I feel confident, pure, and accomplished, positive energy will ooze out of me and be noticed and acknowledged by others. • 34. Motivation Statement For Motivation In Psychology In this statement I describe my motivation for seeking graduate training in psychology at Georgia State University. It is my aim to continue my education in psychology, with the goal of pursuing a career that contributes to our understanding of cognitive abilities in both humans and non human primates. My involvement in the academic community at the University of Georgia has contributed greatly to the refinement of my academic and career goals. Through my involvement in service organizations such as the Undergraduate Neuroscience Organization (UNO), I have gained a greater interest in how studies of the brain contribute to our understanding of the causes and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. I have theoretical research interests in comparative cognition, human animal studies, and primate behavior. Specifically, I am interested in how cognitive abilities such as memory and attention function in primates and how this functioning compares to that of humans. These research interests developed throughout my undergraduate coursework, research, and internship experiences. As an undergraduate student at the University of Georgia, I have taken a holistic approach to my education, combining a psychological and anthropological perspective to understand how the brain works both individually and across different species. I am confident that my education thus far has prepared me for the rigor of interdisciplinary doctoral coursework. My undergraduate coursework not only underscored ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Research Paper On Emperor Penguins In relation to their swimming adaptations, Emperor penguins also need to be able to dive to great depths in order to retrieve vital resources such as food. Emperor penguins tend to hunt for quick, midwater squid as well as fish and therefore they need to be capable of diving to relatively deeper and remain submerged for longer period of time, in relation to other penguin species. Emperor penguins can dive to depths of approximately 550 565 metres towards the sea floor which is known as the twilight zone where less light is able to penetrate the surface of the water. Emperor penguins are also able to hold their breath for approximately 22 27 minutes. Both of these aspects enable the emperor penguin to stay submerged in the water and locate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because the female Emperor desires a partner who is able to survive throughout the unfavourable environment during the long fasting period whilst incubating the egg produced by the female. Once the female lays her egg, both parents alternate between incubating and protecting the eggs as well as caring for the chicks once they re hatched while the female hunts for food. So, while the female returns to sea in order to forage food, the male is left to fend for him and his egg and consequently chicks, this can last for approximately 2 months and the male penguins can potentially lose up to 45% (potentially 20 kilograms) of their overall body fat over the breeding season. Therefore, it is incredibly important for a female to find a fat partner, as the larger the partner, the longer he will be able to fast while she forages for food, and protect their eggs and consequently their chicks. To emphasize and flaunt their size, the male Emperor penguins produce a call of sorts in order to attract a suitable female, whilst performing and waving their flippers/wings around in order to draw attention to themselves. Dependant on the density of the male s layer of fat surrounding its voice box and consequently the overall size of the male s chest cavity, the tone of the call produced will either be suitable or unsuitable decided on said ... The government, along with various organizations are coming together and making efforts to restrict and prevent this number one highest growing world epidemic from transmitting from one person to another.
