This document is an unedited proof of a memoir by Michael Ardan titled "Talking to Strangers". It consists of an author biography, acknowledgements page, quote by Fran Lebowitz, and two sample chapters - "Happy Endings" and "The Great Train Robbery". The chapters describe Ardan moving from Kansas to New York City against his parents' doubts and having his possessions stolen on the subway, though not in a violent manner. The document provides background on Ardan and previews his memoir's humorous and personal essays about taking risks in the city.
This document contains several poems about dreams by Langston Hughes. The poems explore themes of dreaming freely as a black man, having one's dreams deferred or crushed by oppression, and the persistence of dreaming despite obstacles.
The document discusses how actions can either support or deny people's access to rights and opportunities. It provides several photos of substandard living conditions in a building in Hong Kong that fail to meet basic health, safety, and privacy standards. This denies the residents their rights to a safe environment, health, and privacy as outlined in various UN Convention on the Rights of the Child articles. The poor maintenance of the building by landlords and lack of government oversight in improving conditions denies children the right to reach their full potential.
This document discusses students' digital literacy transitions from college to university. It presents questionnaires given to students at all levels to identify key transition points. Two students' transition journeys are depicted, showing increasing demands and skills from levels 1 to 3. The document outlines questions around ensuring students are equipped with digital literacy skills and identifies an action plan for staff, such as integrating digital literacies into teaching and using e-portfolios to support reflection.
