Disaster Disasters And Its Impact On A Population
Disasters, at their most basic, arise when hazards have a significant impact on a population. A 7.0
magnitude earthquake that would be a devastating disaster in a densely populated and vulnerable city,
may be a relatively insignificant geologic occurrence when it strikes an unoccupied island chain. Risk
of a disaster is more traditionally calculated by identification of the potential hazard, assess in relation
of likelihood of an event as it relates to the potential impact severity or risk = probability x
impact/loss. (Smith 2013). For preparedness, risk formulas are insufficient in the absence of context
and consideration for social vulnerability, Birkmann (2007) encourages us to shift away from viewing
disasters as large scale events ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initial results of the digital search showed a predominance of earthquake information (90%), very few
addressing fire (7%) and even fewer addressing both (3%) Additionally, only 8 % of web and mobile
apps allowed for user interaction. (Fagg, Verucci Rickles 2015). The paper based advice we reviewed
varied widely in quality, detail, and accessibility, but most focused on raising awareness of the hazard
and general home based actions for general or single hazard preparedness specifically; minor
acknowledgements of the potential for a subsequent and arising additional hazard (e.g. post
earthquake shut off of gas if there is leak to prevent fire), but none noted the significant link between
the two hazards. There is a further leap between the small fixes that can be enacted by individuals and
those that are more significant or structural changes. These initial findings show a gap that our
research might address.
Yet, despite all of the information that exists, it has been noted that neither public perception of risk
nor perceived knowledge of the hazard and government response arrangements alone are necessarily
correlated to preparedness action either in intention to adopt mitigation measures or in their actual
uptake (Lindell Whitney 2000). Some

Comparing Vietnam And The United States
The world has become more global as time is going through. However, there are still some significant
differences when comparing between developed country and developing country, such as Vietnam and
the United States. While the United States has been developed in many fields (economy, religions,
educational system..), Vietnam is still in transition process. They are located on two different
continents; they have so much difference on religious, languages, and practices although those
distinctions are seemed to get more narrow than before. People are trying to adopt the different
culture, as they still the keep their traditional practices of their own culture. Wedding life, food, and
the educational system are the typical things, which have the similarities and differences at the same
time.
Firstly, the wedding life for couples is significantly different even though it still has some few things
similar. In both countries, the couples will an engagement ceremony before getting to an actual
wedding ceremony. They both will receive wedding rings from their lovers. Also, they will sometime
hold a reception the celebration party in when they share theirs happiness to their friends and
happiness. On the other hand, there are still some contrasts between for the couple before and after the
wedding. In the U.S, the couples are free to choose theirs partners, their parents do not interfere their
children s decision, but the couples cannot get married unless they have permissions

Job Consolidation Is A Great Idea For Suncoast Hotel
We at White Board Consulting believe that job consolidation is a great idea for SunCoast Hotel (SCH)
to help solve their current scheduling problems and help management transition during the expansion.
Further, this job consolidation approach can help prevent problems that might arise in the future.
Having a Guest Service Staff (GSS) position will allow these employees to be more efficient in their
day to day operations since they will be able to function within in each department of the hotel. Idle
time for employees will also be reduced because instead of just being confined to only completing
tasks one department, the GSS is will be able multitask in different department. Management will also
have a flexibility of moving employees from department to department without having to use time and
labor retain employees.
Having a Guest Service Staff might also be a beneficial position in the long run for the SunCoast
Hotel. Currently there is is a 35 percent average turnover rate for hotel employees; 10 percent is
through natural attrition. If employees are being used more efficiently and given a wide range of task
to complete, WB consulting believes that this turnover rate will decrease due to a positive increase in
affective commitment. Engaging the employees more and setting up a healthy relationship with
management, we believe, will have a very strong positive impact for job satisfaction. Employees will
see the big picture and see how their work directly effects that,

My Health Behavior Change Project Essay
Running head: BEHAVIOR CHANGE 1 My Health Behavior Change Project UNKNOWN AUTHOR

behavior change project focuses on expanding my consumption of all food groups, primarily
vegetables and seafood. Based on a week log of my current eating habits, using super tracker, I am
consuming below recommended intakes in all my food groups, the worst being my primary objectives
(vegetables, and seafood) with near 0 grams of ingestion. This can lead to many deficiencies and
diseases, like malnutrition according to Michelle McGuire, and Kathy Beerman (2006) in their book
Nutritional Sciences: From Fundamentals to Food (p. 30). Based on the theory of transtheoretical
model of behavior change, I am in the contemplation phase (Choosing Health, 2012, by April Lynch,
Barry Elmore, and Tanya Morgan). With advice from Mrs. Ciucci, a Palm Beach State College health
instructor, I am finally ready to make a S.M.A.R.T goal based on my preferences. Using planned out
strategies, I hope to make some degree of change by the end of this year and impact my dimensions of

Teenage Smoking Essay
Teenage Smoking
When I went to visit my grandmother in the hospital, she was critically ill. I heard the doctor say that
she would have a much better chance of survival if she had not been a smoker most of her life. I made
the decision then that I would not smoke. Every day more than 3,000 teenagers become regular
smokers. That number translates to more than 1 million teenagers a year. About one third of them will
eventually die from a tobacco related disease. Cigarettes kill more than 400,000 Americans every year.
A person who smokes a pack or more of cigarettes each day will live about seven fewer years than a
nonsmoker. Further, smoking hurts young people s physical performance and endurance. Smoking in
young people can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another cause of the increase in smoking among teenagers is the fact that teens are made to believe
that smoking is cool. Our teenage years are a time when we are unsure of ourselves and have a great
deal of peer pressure put on us to fit in. The tobacco industry knows this, and bombard teens with
advertisements and billboards that encourage smoking. These advertisements and billboards illustrate
that if we smoke we will fit in and have more friends. Cigarette advertisers also try to demonstrate that
women who smoke are sexy, men are manly, and that smokers have fun and lots of friends. In order to
counter all this false advertising, there should be an promotional campaign that portrays the disgusting
aspects of smoking. The advertising should show a cigarette hanging out of a woman s mouth and
describe how repugnant the woman smells from the cigarette smoke. Another solution would be to ban
all cigarette smoking in movies so that teens are not given the message that if they want to look like a
movie star, smoke.
Furthermore, cigarettes are easily accessible to teens, and so it is the parents duty to talk to their
children and set an example. Parents who are involved and show interest in their teen s life can help to
prevent the teen from smoking. Teens who are not close to a parent are at a greater risk to succumb to
peer pressure. They may feel that they have no one to talk to

Consumer Spending Essay example
Consumer Spending
ECO 2301
Principles of Macroeconomics
Anthony Le
November 30th, 2011
Consumer Spending Consumer spending is defined as the goods and services bought by the
households in the satisfaction of their wants and needs. (BusinessDictionary.com). It is also known as
personal consumption expenditure and is the largest part of aggregate demand or effective demand at
the macroeconomic level. Why is consumer spending important in the U.S. economy? In fact,
consumer spending is the single biggest determinant of the U.S. economy s health, accounting for
about two thirds of the United States annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP). A decline in consumer
spending could spoil the U.S. economy or certain market sectors. By ... Show more content on

This leaves less money to pay for discretionary purchases that help fuel economic growth. It is
estimated that every $1 increase in the price of gasoline translates into an additional cost of $1,000 a
year for most drivers. As a result, low income households began to feel pressures from higher energy
bills, which already affected negatively discounted retailers. Long term, the pain at the pump could
become more widespread. A survey released in April by the Financial Services Forum, an association
of the CEOs of 20 large U.S. financial institutions, reported its members view escalating energy prices
as the biggest threat to U.S. economic growth, ahead of rising health care costs and terrorism. The rise
in gasoline also caused the fall in auto sales. Cars and light trucks were sold at an average 11.41
annual rate in June, the slowest in a year. (Chandra)
Besides household incomes, high fuel cost and energy prices, interest rate is another key factor that
determines consumer spending in the economy. Interest rate hikes have already reduced demand for
mortgage refinancing and home equity loans, two significant sources of cash that increased consumer
spending in recent years. As interest rate rose, consumers most likely found it less desirable and less
reasonable to borrow against the equity in their homes. As a result, they tend to put off buying luxury
goods for their home, such as TVs, entertainment systems, or other goods. With the above aspects, we
as consumers are

The Cognitive Development Of Children
There are many different things that shape the cognitive development of children. To begin with
cognitive development is when a child develops how to process, solve problems, and start making
decisions. Once they have learned this they take everything they have learned into their adolescence.
An example, of what can shape the cognitive development of a child can be an educational game.
Educational games can be very useful in shaping a child s development because they are having fun
while learning at the same time and what kid doesn t like to play games, the fact that it is even
educational makes it even better for them. Not only are they having fun but there are many different
games that help in different categories of development in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In Phuoc Tran and Kaveri Subrahmanyam (2013) journal article it explains and gives us evidence on
how digital tools are and have become an important tool when it comes to children s learning and
development. They mention Vygotsky s theory, on how cognitive development happens with the use
of computers because it is a tool that is part of our culture. These tools are important because it helps
the children develop many different skills (Tran and Subrahmanyam, 2013). They mention different
pathways that help toward cognitive development. The first pathway is the amount of time that they
spend using the computers. Children shouldn t spend a long time using the computers they should
limit their use of computers for a certain amount of time per day. They mention how kids that come
from a low income family and struggle with reading get many beneficial in learning from using the
computers. It enhances their school readiness. The second pathway is the way kids interpret the
language of the computer. For example, how to navigate a computer. Tran and Subrahmanyam

The purpose of this experiment was to test the effects of various solute concentrations on rate of
osmosis in dialysis bags. The hypothesis was that the rate of osmosis would increase as solute
concentration increase. Bag 1 was the only isotonic bag, due to the water flowing evenly inside and
outside of the bag. Bags 2 4 were hypotonic and were exposed to a hypotonic environment causing the
water to flow inside the bag, where there were more solutes. The water moved inside the bag to try to
balance the solute concentration on both sides of the membrane. Figure 1, shows that bag 4 had a
higher rate of osmosis due to having a higher solute concentration of 60% sucrose compared to bag 2

How Does Different Levels of Pollution in Streams or Ponds...
How does Different Levels of Pollution in Streams or Ponds Affect Macro invertebrate Species?
Organisms without back bones are Macro Invertebrate species (Seminole.Wateratlas.Usf.Edu ,2012) .
These organisms are small but can be seen without a magnifying glass (Waitakere.Govt.Nz , 2002) .
Size ranges from 3 20mm long (Waitakere.Govt.Nz , 2002) .Insects, crustaceans, mollusks, worms,
leeches, and anemones are classified a Macro invertebrate species (Waitakere.Govt.Nz , 2002).
Streams that are free from pollution will contain a variety of these animals. Streams that have higher
pollution levels will less of these animals. Macro invertebrates that live in the stream can determine

Piping the stream is when the streams are piped underground to permit city expansion
(Waitakere.Govt.Nz , 2002). Piping the streams can cause the invertebrates to starve. The animals will
starve because algae need light to survive (Waitakere.Govt.Nz , 2002). In the pipes, algae are not
receiving any light causing the plant to die .Invertebrates can t eat leaves because there are no trees in
the pipes. Straightening the streams is when the streams are smoothed out or straightened with
concrete (Waitakere.Govt.Nz , 2002). This can cause the stream to lack objects such as rocks. The
invertebrates attach to these objects to prevent being washed down the stream(Waitakere.Govt.Nz ,
2002). If the stream lacks objects invertebrates will be washed down the stream. The objects in the
stream also used for protection from predators (Waitakere.Govt.Nz , 2002). Fewer objects in the
stream will result in less hiding places for invertebrates (Waitakere.Govt.Nz , 2002). Therefore,
predators will easily find them. Flow reduction is when some water from the stream is taken and sent
elsewhere (Waitakere.Govt.Nz , 2002). This can happen in many ways. One way this can occur is
when water is taken out of the stream for urban supplies and agriculture (Waitakere.Govt.Nz , 2002).
This can result in making the stream smaller or destroying the steam entirely (Waitakere.Govt.Nz ,
2002). If the stream gets reduced in sized or destroyed most

The Role Of The Oil Boom
Architecture of a city reflects its way of living and provides insights into the city s creation and
development of how it looks today. Abu Dhabi in the present day is a modern city with tall
skyscrapers and wide grid pattern roads. Being the capital of United Arab Emirates, it is the country s
center of political and industrial activities. As a former desert strip, Abu Dhabi is now known for its
greenery and a prosperous city because of its revenues from oil, technology and tourism. In this essay,
I will be discussing about how the role of the oil boom played a part in the development in the city s
architecture and whether it has encouraged the economic modernization. Has it lost its traditional
heritage by undergoing a marked change into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The traditional architecture of the city is resulted in these three factors, the economy, the climate, and
the people s lifestyle.
Back in the day, the population of UAE is very unevenly distributed; there is a dense amount of people
living in Abu Dhabi due to its abundance of water and palm trees. The construction of forts and
citadels were very popular during that era. While forts were being used accommodation, citadels were
commonly used as a defensive structure used in more urban or densely populated areas and was
associated specifically with a powerful leader. The lower classes lived in houses built with perishable
materials such as palm frond and woven palm mat while the higher classes lived in stone, mud brick
and coral houses built by professional builders. [1]
Figure 1 shows a typical house in a village built using woven palm mats, mostly inhabited by lower
class families [2]
Another factor that affected the traditional architecture of Abu Dhabi was the climate. Because of its
arid climate, one of the solutions was to build wind towers, which is a concave V shape to deflect
wind down to cool the spaces below it. Buildings were also built close to each other, with narrow
alleys between them, called the sikkas. These rely on the northern winds to flow freely and into spaces
to ensure ventilation. These two systems would work together, the wind tower catching

Robert Pirsig s Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance...
Robert Pirsig s Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry into Values
Confronting crises of technological annihilation and personal madness, Robert Pirsig finds each to be
a manifestation of a deeper crisis of Reason. In response) he suggests an alternative to our current
paradigm of rationality, the art of motorcycle maintenance. By showing that our understanding and
performance derive from our emotional and evaluative commitments, he challenges the cultural
commonplace which construes subjective states as distortions of objective reality. In so doing, he
asserts that wholeness or sanity may be achieved only through passionate caring, and an awareness
and acceptance of how our emotions and values shape our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet whereas we are never left alone by our technology, we are increasingly lonely, alienated from our
deepest selves. For we have lost touch with our own feelings, being educated to ignore them in order
to function in a technological world. Like Bergman s intellectual illiterates, we are so uneducated
about our inner feelings that we only learn to talk about them when we break down, and have to be
repaired by the analyst, at the Group, or in the asylum. For, we learn, our feelings distort our objective
perceptions, and thus prevent us from functioning like our machines. In this vein, Andy Warhol wryly
recalls that he had always wanted to be like a machine, for then it was easier to get along with people.
We thus find ourselves fragmented, our feelings alienated from our world, our lives as well as our
literature being characterizable by T. S. Eliot s phrase, dissociation of sensibility.
Parallel to this public, cultural crisis of technologically induced fragmentation, Pirsig faces his own
personal crisis of fragmentation or madness. Some years earlier he had been declared clinically insane,
and underwent electro shock therapy to annihilate his mad personality. This earlier self, whom he now
calls Phaedrus, had gone mad as a result of a search for Truth which led him ultimately to repudiate
Reason itself.[1] Pursuing the ghost of reason through

The United States Involvement During The Vietnam War
The United States involvement in the Vietnam War primarily between the years 1964 and 1968 were
brought about by the many hostilities and frustrations predominately based on issues of the Cold War,
communism, the Policy of Containment, and the Domino Theory. When the United States first got
involved in the Vietnam War in the first half of the 1960s, problems had been ongoing for quite
sometime and were continuing to increasingly get worse. Throughout the period of U.S. involvement
in the war, there were many supporters and non supporters that included various political groups,
interest groups, students, Civil Rights groups, and the military. Through all of the issues of U.S.
involvement up to the major events that took place during the time period of 1964 1968, a great deal
happened and the U.S. was unsuccessful in attaining the goal that it wished to achieve in Vietnam;
ending the reign of communism. Arising out of issues originating in the Cold War and primarily the
stopping of the spread of communism, the Vietnam War had a lasting impact that would never be
forgotten. Many Americans believed that the containment doctrine, which was devised by George
Kennan, was the key doctrine that got the United States involved in the Vietnam War to begin with;
however, others say that no president really decided to go to wage war in Vietnam but instead became
involved because of increasing commitment over many years (Brinkley, 843). From right after the end

The Ethics Of A Systematic Disaster Plan
When a mass casualty has stricken the nation such as the incidents of 9/11, the plane crash of a TWA
800, or the Oklahoma City bombing; each incident involved some level of planning after the incident
took place. The planning process for managing an emergency has to take into considerations certain
factors such as the level of the devastation, what resources are needed, and how to eliminate the
likelihood of the same incident from occurring again. The basis of every decision emergency
managers will need to make revolve around ethical decisions when conducting the planning process.
Ethics is defined as the moral principles that govern a person s or group s behavior (Oxford
Dictionary, n.d.). As it relates to first responders and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Will funding go to areas where there is a least likely chance of restoration or does funding go to those
areas where there is a better chance of rescue? There is an ethical duty owed to citizens during a mass
casualty especially during the decision making process because every life should matter regardless of
the cost on the local, state, or federal level. When addressing concerns for impoverished areas, special
consideration should be a concern for many emergency managers before an incident would to hit the
community (Danz, 2014).
In the realm of emergency management, there are five ethical decision making theories that are used
as a guide when developing an emergency management and preparedness plan. There theories are the
utilitarian approach, rights approach, fairness or justice approach, common good approach, and the
virtue approach. Each theory is designed with a specific end goal in mind while taking into account
the various concerns regarding funding, resources, and the rescue/recovery phases. The utilitarian
approach emphasizes on the ethical actions that provide the most good with the least amount of harm
for those affected during an emergency such as employees, customers, and the community (Velasquez,
Andre, Shanks, Meyer, S.J., 2014).
The rights approach suggests that ethical actions are done so, which best protects and respects the
moral rights of those affected. This theory focuses on the belief that humans have dignity based

Erik Erikson s Theory Of Psychosocial Development Essay
Erik Erikson was born in Greman in 1902 1994, American psychoanalyst; known for psychosocial
theory of emotional development of human beings. His theory looks at the impact of parents and
society on personality development from childhood to adulthood. Erikson believes, each person has to
pass through a series of eight stages over there entire life cycle. I will look at the first 3 stages that
cover the childhood years. There are set of conflict at each stage, which allows individual to develop
each stage successfully. Each conflict can be handled in a proper means or inproper means that can
prevent progression for the indivdual to the next stage of there development.
Erik Erikson (1950, 1963) proposed a psychoanalytic theory of psychosocial development comprising
eight stages from infancy to adulthood. During each stage, the person experiences a psychosocial
crisis which could have a positive or negative outcome for personality He s ideas were greatly
influenced by development Frued. Freud s theory regarding the structure and detail map of
personality. Erikson was an ego psychologist. He emphasized the role of culture and society and the
conflicts that can take place within the ego itself, whereas Freud emphasized the conflict between who
you are or the superhero.

Analysis Of Sister Aloysius And James
Sisters Aloysius and James as Representatives of Social Duality The play Doubt: A Parable by John
Patrick Shanley was first staged at the Manhattan Theatre Club in 2004 and won the Pulitzer Prize the
next year. In the play, the author touches upon a set of urgent social topics, such as pedophilia, abuse,
faith, and moral considerations. Also, the author dwells upon a controversial image of a nun with the
example of two main female characters of the play, Sister Aloysius, and Sister James: though having
dedicated their lives to the same goal, these women are entirely different in their experiences,
characters, and moral considerations. First, the sisters have different life experiences and social
backgrounds. Sister Aloysius is a middle aged woman, who was married, but after her husband died in
the war against Adolph Hitler (Shanley 1525) she decided to dedicate her life to God. Being an
experienced teacher, Sister Aloysius is chosen to be the principal of the St. Nicolas School and she
successfully holds the position for many years. During her long life, she witnesses war, death, and
many terrible deeds committed by people. All this makes her believe less of her heart and more of her
mind. As for Sister James, the innocent soul (Cullingford 256) , she is very young and has just started
her path as a nun and a teacher. The lack of experience makes her search for new approaches to
teaching, which are strange and unacceptable for the principal. As a result, the

Failure of Mission Command by General McClellan Essay
The Battle of Antietam could have been a devastating and fatal blow to the Confederate Army if Gen.
McClellan acted decisively, took calculated risks, and veered away from his cautious approach to war.
There are many instances leading up to the battle and during the battle in which he lacks the necessary
offensive initiative to effectively cripple and ultimately win the war. This paper is intended to
articulate the failure of Mission Command by GEN McClellan by pointing out how he failed to

As is noted from the quote above, questions were raised about Gen McClellan s inability to lead an
Army during a time of war. Only because of uncertainty of the Union Army after GEN Pope s defeat
on September 1 at Second Bull Run did McClellan live to Command during Antietam. For all of GEN
McClellan s ability to rally the Soldiers to fight, his inability to garner the trust and confidence in his
generals proved pivotal during the battle. Stephen Sears depicts McClellan as only trusting two of his
six Corps commanders. The testing of battle uncovered another McClellan failing his management of
his own generals. Of his six corps commanders, he displayed confidence in only two, Fitz John Porter
and Joseph Hooker. He had termed 65 year old Edwin Sumner even a greater fool than I had
supposed, and regarded William Franklin as slow and lacking in energy. He had recently rebuked
Ambrose Burnside for his tepid pursuit of the Rebels after the fighting at South Mountain. Joseph
Mansfield, new to command, was an unknown quantity. McClellan called no council of his generals to
explain his intentions, issued no plan of battle, and on September 17 conferred at length only with Fitz
John Porter.

where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is in organized
conspiracy to oppress, rob, and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe. This statement
speaks for the justice portion of environmental injustice and is a common thought of all environmental
activists. Knowing the benefits and ailments many have gone further into creating environmental
justice. To prevent environmental injustice, and to receive justice for all, many activists and
government officials around the globe have made actions to stop environmental injustice. After
residents located near the Love Canal toxic waste dump in Niagara Falls, New York, were notified of
eighty eight harmful chemicals migrated near them, they ordered the state relocate them. After the
state s government refused the community members held protests for an evacuation, eventually
leading to President Jimmy Carter relocating the community. The infamous Love Canal incident led to
the Superfund Act in 1980. This law created a tax on the chemical and petroleum industries and

Changing Lives with the Fifth Agrement by Don Miguel Ruiz
The Fifth Agreement
Published in 2011, The Fifth Agreement is a sequel to The Fourth Agreement, and offers another
powerful agreement for changing lives. The authors Don Miguel Ruiz and his son Don Jose Ruiz
inspire the readers to see the truth and to alter the message they communicate to themselves and the
people around them. According to them, the fifth agreement is the pathway to complete inner peace
and self satisfaction. Whereas the first four agreements are about breaking free from thousands of
agreements that create unnecessary suffering, the fifth agreement helps regain the power of
authenticity, which is the true character that we are born with. These agreements are 1) be impeccable
with your words, 2) don t take anything personally, 3) don t make assumptions, 4) always do your
best, and 5) be skeptical, but learn to listen.
The authors include stories from the Bible, and make reference to heaven and hell to demonstrate their
point. At the beginning of the novel, they talk about the relationship between God and men. In the
story, God and Adam are walking around together, when God asks him how he would like to name
everything (Ruiz and Ruiz 20). It is in this conversation between God and Adam that the authors
explain the meaning of objective and subjective perceptions. God tells Adam that our objective
perception is the truth, and it is called science; our interpretation of the truth is subjective, and we call
it art (Ruiz and Ruiz 21). Men are born with a sense

Finally Me Us Analysis
Joanne was just another ordinary girl, with the passion of writing. As she delved into writing and
started working on the book her mother passed away and she sank into a deep, grieving depression,
getting little to nothing accomplished.
Joanne thought she would give it another go but she failed to make progress, she fell in and out of love
ending up with a failed marriage and a baby daughter which she had to raise alone. She was a single
mother struggling to support herself and her daughter, Jessica. Joanne then decided that during her
spare times she would continue writing her book, it was her only peace. After sending her manuscript
and getting rejected 12 times by publishers, Joanne lost confidence in her book. Finally, a company

Again, time only gives us one chance and we must use this chance wisely. We again should use this
opportunity to cultivate an open mind. We should be flexible, adaptive and open to new experiences
and find alternate ways of looking at things.
If we choose to approach life in the same way day after day, as well as becoming bored and
uninspired, we will reduce our intellectual aptitude. If, on the other hand, we seek new ways of doing
and looking at things, we will expand our intellectual capability, find life way more exciting and
broaden our experiences. By opening our mind to new experiences and opportunities we strengthen
the belief in ourselves and it helps us live a happy and satisfying life. Time is precious, do not let it
pass by.
All the memories and knowledge we ve gained throughout life is our own artwork, crafted by our very
own hands. This artwork forms our masterpiece which was once just a blank canvas. I guess all I m
trying to say is don t waste your time and use your enemy as your advantage. Not only will this lead to
a masterpiece but also, a master

An Analysis of Emily Dickinson s Poem, Because I Could...
In the poem Because I could not stop for Death by Emily Dickinson refers to death as a gentlemen
who unexpectedly visits Dickinson to take her on a journey towards eternity (I. 24). It is very ironic
that she considers death as a gentleman, but as we all know it is the total opposite. On the second
stanza they both start the slow and peaceful journey. We slowly drove, he knew no haste (I. 5). We can
see the tranquility of the scene in which they are. Dickinson here understands the seriousness of the
situation in which she is, and she forgets about everything.
And I put away my labor and my leisure too, For his civility She describes her struggle in life with the
word labor , the word leisure as her freedom (I.6) and deaths ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Here Dickinson is dressed in a light Gown (I.15) and a cape or in this case a Tippet (I.16) which is the
costume she is wearing for her funeral.
On stanza number five is coming to an end. We paused for a house that seemed a swelling of the
ground (I.18) this emphasizes or describes death s house continued by the Cornice in the ground one
can relate this to her tomb on the ground. With this information one can conclude her death. Emily
Dickinson describes show after her recent death, she feels like she has been dead for centuries, but
actually it Feels shorter than a day (I.22). Already realizing she is dead. The last two lines of stanza six

On An Irish Airman foresees his death by W.B Yeats the themes of the poem is the balancing of life

first two lines, Yeats prepares us for his journey. We can see how his negation of any natural feeling on

understand the situation in which the pilot does not care of the whole situation; he just wants this war

which in this case: the Germans. Even though he does not really care what the result of the

The Importance Of Clinical Reasoning And Judgement In The...
Clinical Reasoning and Judgement in The Nursing Process
Critical thinking and clinical reasoning are essential skills to develop a sound clinical judgement.
Nurses use critical thinking models and processes to support and organize the interventions that they
perform in the clinical setting. In the scenario of Mr. Patient requesting for a Do Not Resuscitate order,
I used the nursing process to serve as the framework of the patient care and the Lasater s Clinical
Judgment Rubric by Kathie Lasater (2007) to guide my reflection. In this paper, I will describe the
skills that were used in relation to the nursing process, provide analysis of the model and application
of learning in terms of CNO competencies, and evaluate my clinical decision making in terms of
patient outcomes. While, the nursing process, served as a guide to organize my thought process in
relation to the overall picture of the patient, I also incorporated thinking structures such as ABC and
Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs to determine the prioritization in each activity. Furthermore, I utilized
the Structured Prebriefing Worksheet by Karin Page Cutrara (2015) to make inferences from the data
before engaging in the scenario.
Clinical Reasoning Skills in Scenario
The main clinical issue in the scenario is the need of a Do Not Resuscitate order by the client. In the
pre briefing process, I predicted that the patient needs medication to reduce his chronic pain related to
his previous medical history of prostate cancer and transurethral resection of prostate. Using the
nursing process, I am able to systematically assess and deliver appropriate interventions to the patient.
I prioritize his chronic pain over his feelings, based on the Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs. As I
complete his physical assessment, I noticed that his pain level is the only variable that is out of the
normal limits. I examined his pain in detail using the PQRST pain assessment tool. I tried to look for
more gaps in my assessment when I inquire about his feelings in which I learned that patient would
like to have a DNR order.
In the planning phase, the health care team had a discussion about prioritization. On one hand, the
patient s pain level is eight out of ten that needed

Compare and Contrast Spanish and British Colonization...
Compare and contrast Spanish and British colonization efforts in North America prior to 1763. Prior
to 1763, both Spanish and British colonization efforts expanded into various regions of North
America. In less than a century, from 1625 to 1700, the movements of peoples and goods from Europe
to North America transformed the continent. Native Americans either resisted or accommodated the
newcomers depending on the region of the colony. Though the English colonies were by far the most
populous, within the English colonies, four distinct regions emerged. While planters or merchants
grew in power in each English colony, Spanish colonists, with far fewer colonists, depended more on
friendly relations with Native Americans to secure their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The English had a much larger population in their colonies than the Spanish, in fact, in 1700; there
was a total population of 250,000 in the English colonies compared to 4,500 in the Spanish. A larger
population in the colonies meant there was more manpower for work and, in addition, a greater wealth
development. This led to a greater distinction between the English and the Spanish, which was the
mass level by which slaves were used in colonial society. The Spanish too had similar ways of
acquiring cheap labor services by establishing the Encomienda system. This system, unlike the
English, exploited the Indians for personal profits rather than slaves imported from Africa. As English
colonies, particularly in the south, focused on establishing an agrarian society; the Spanish did not
focus as much on maintaining an agriculture based society. In marked contrast to England s compact,
densely populated settlements on the Atlantic, Spain established far flung inland networks of fortified
trading posts and missions. Unlike the English, they were unable to attract large numbers of colonists,
and thus enlisted Native Americans as trading partners and military allies. The Catholic nation had far
greater success in converting natives to Christianity than their Protestant counterpart. By 1700,
Spanish missionaries, traders, and soldiers were spreading their influence beyond the range of England
s colonies; to

The Correlation Between Amounts Of Time Spent Playing...
What is the relationship between the amounts of time spent playing video games and your amount of
sleep?
Introduction
Nearly every day, you can read articles about urbanized countries throughout the world, with issues or
concerns arising from individuals playing video games for excessive amounts of time. Individuals
form addictions to a surge in excessive or violent behaviors, commonly found among teens or younger
children. Studies also indicate playing excessive amounts of video games can also have an effect on
your sleeping patterns in a negative way. For instance, playing an extreme amount of video games
prior to going to bed may create a more difficult time in falling asleep. So, I decided to take on a
similar yet different type of study to discover out how much video gaming an average high schooler
plays each night and how this may affect how many hours of sleep he/she receives. I was unable to
find any online articles for this type of study, so I decided to find out for myself using the high school
population at a local school. As the study began, I did believe that students who participated in
excessive video gaming may receive less sleep.
Statement of Task
The focus of this study was to investigate if the amount of time students spend playing video games
each evening may have an influence on the quantity of sleep the average high school student receives.
To determine this, I requested teachers to allow me to survey students during school hours in an

How Does Body Art Affect Our Society
Tattoos. Piercings. Colored hair. From the Bronze Age to Egypt, Japan, China, and other countries the
appearance of body art has spread and has found its way throughout the world; brought to society
today from culture, symbolism, and religion in ancient times. Many difficulties reside around the
looks they give off in a place of professionalism. Though in modern day society body art is becoming
more popular and uprising controversy of their presence in a workplace is becoming more of a
problem. Body art is a beautiful way to express yourself and if people with it cannot show it off
without consequences towards their careers is disappointing. A new law needs to be formed to protect
those who have them from getting discriminated against or fired. For the younger generations are
becoming more fond and interested in body art, while the older generations disapprove this uproar.
Within the younger generation known as the Millennials, early 1980s to early 2000s, are developing
our society into one where body art is becoming accepted. The Journal of the American Academy of
Dermatology published data showing that in 2006 approximately 24 percent of Americans had a form
of body art when back in 1976 it was only around one percent (Cooke). Also from 2007 to 2012 the
number of people that had two or more tattoos increased, which would make it 13 percent more
popular (Tattoos in the Workplace Statistics). So with body art on the rise and it becoming the new
grind, why is it not

Stary Messenger
To almost everyone in the sixteenth century, it was common knowledge that sun revolved around the
Earth. After all, the universities taught it, and the Papacy preached it. The heliocentric theory was
heresy, at best. Scientific fact was proven not by observation, or as we know it today, the scientific
method, it was instead proven by philosophy. If something appeared to be true, then it was true. In
1610, Galileo published his book Starry Messenger , which was created based on observations made
with the newly invented telescope. This book, along with others published at this time, effectively
started the Scientific Revolution. Galileo was born in Pisa in 1564 as the first child of Vincenzio
Galilei. His father was a talented musician and textile merchant who provided an above average
standard of living. His father worked two jobs. One as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Edmond Rostand s Cyrano De Bergerac
Dramatist, Edmond Rostand, in his play, Cyrano de Bergerac, illustrates the central character s
ceaseless honor conflicting with doubts within himself. Rostand s purpose is to show that morality and
principles are strived for until the end, emphasized with the inclusion of the white scarf. Rostand
adopts a comical yet tragic tone in order to describe the situations where honor is seen at high value,
but has the potential to accrue danger. The white scarf lays emphasis on the differences between De
Guiche and Cyrano s character. For example, when De Guiche comes back to the cadets without his

Review Of The Overcoat And The Man Who Lived...
Adaptation plays a large role in The Overcoat and The Man Who lived Underground . Bureaucracy
does not affect Akaky because he is used to constant oppression. Daniels initially is oppressed by his
surroundings until he learns to interact with them beneficially. Daniels, unlike Akaky, mentally
transcends all forms of oppression by believing that he is a God. Daniel s transcendence from social
restrictions allows him to live ignorantly in his oppressive world. Akaky and Daniels both interact
with oppressive environments; however, they only experience subjugation from their environments
when they are aware of the oppression. Ignorance of their circumstances allows the two to avoid
experiencing the oppression unless there is a change in their status quo. At first glance, Akaky appears
to be stuck in the bureaucratic system as a mere slave. The system supposedly oppresses him causing
him to be compliant and introverted. He appears to be oppressed by the system causing him to be
compliant and introverted. However, Akaky enjoys his position as a lowly clerk, and actually prefers
to maintain his status rather than climb the ranks in his office to reduce the assumed oppression of the
bureaucratic system. Thus, the individual has some control over whether or not they are oppressed by
their environment or government. Akaky only experiences the oppression from the complex Russian

Many times the counselor is the one person in the client s life that does not offer judgement and gives
them the space to think through the issues affecting them, and the counselor can help in creating a

The Philosophy Of Passive Management
speaking, not true. In particular, it was assumed that the market is in the state of equilibrium (i.e. all
investors have finished to complete their portfolios), operational and transaction costs (payment of
intermediaries services, staff, information services, taxes, etc.) are insignificant, the investor has the
ability to receive and grant loans on the same risk free rate, and so on. Nevertheless, the idea that the
market portfolio is probably close to an effective portfolio, initiated a passive portfolio management.
This strategy means that when the investor prepares the portfolio, determining the expected return, he
is focused entirely on the market portfolio and he doesn t carry on to make any changes in the
composition of the portfolio after its formation. Hence is the name. The philosophy of passive
management is to minimize the costs of market research and the formation of the portfolio if there is
sufficient guarantee of obtaining a stable high yield. In fact, an investor, preparing the portfolio, is
focused on some reference portfolio (benchmark portfolio), i.e. portfolio with standard yield in
comparison with the actual yield of the portfolio manager. This is not necessarily to consider as a
reference only the market portfolio. There are dozens of different investment funds, called index
funds, which focus on the benchmark portfolio, consisting of securities, selected for a particular trait
(eg: a part of any index). So, there are index funds holding

embarks on a vengeful mission that in the end sees her killing his husband s new wife together with
her two children. It is clear that at the heart of Euripides s tragedy lies a string of extreme sacrifices

Medea cries What do I gain from living any longer? (Euripides 83) Passion can be a great destructive

to her children, Creon, Creon s daughter, and Jason. Despite realizing the consequences of what she is

Through her monologue, we also see her two sided personality. Her maternal side almost convinces
her to save her children, but her passion for revenge proves to be strong. She says, I shall take my
children from the land why should I harm them to hurt their father (Euripides 13). Euripides through
Medea s character expresses his belief that passion is a two sided ideology. Medea s irrational passion
for revenge drives her to do the unimaginable. She says, Do I want to be laughed at for letting my
enemies off scot free (Euripides 49). Medea s character represents a fight between right and wrong,

Spanish American War Research Paper
A Growth in National Power
The Spanish American War Overtime, several historical events have shaped our country into the
strong, independent, nation it is today. One of these events was the Spanish American War. The
Spanish American War took place in April 1898 and lasted until August 1898. The battle between
Spain and America had multiple causes, followed by various consequences. Contributing to American
expansion, this war might have been viewed as short, but it was brutal in the process. Leading up to
the war, the country of Cuba have been struggling to become a self reliant nation from Spain since
1895. Under Spanish rule, Cuba was forbidden to do business with other foreign countries. Spain was

The Treaty of Paris of 1898 outlined these agreements that ended the war. For example, Spain agreed
to forfeit their power over Guam and Puerto Rico, giving these territories to the United States.
Furthermore, Cuba finally gained its independence from Spain and their government. However,
America intervened for three years after they were given freedom. This means that America was
involved in Cuba s government until Cuba added the Platt Amendment in 1901 to their constitution.
The Platt Amendment emphasized the relationship between Cuba and America. To explain, Cuba was
not permitted to give territory to any other nation, except for America in any circumstance. Also, Cuba
had limited, restricted power in foreign relations and treaties. This was to ensure Cuba remained
neutral and to America s advantage. The Platt Amendment gave the United States control of a naval
force in Guantánamo Bay as well. To add, the Philippines was bought for $20 million by the United

  • 2. Disaster Disasters And Its Impact On A Population Disasters, at their most basic, arise when hazards have a significant impact on a population. A 7.0 magnitude earthquake that would be a devastating disaster in a densely populated and vulnerable city, may be a relatively insignificant geologic occurrence when it strikes an unoccupied island chain. Risk of a disaster is more traditionally calculated by identification of the potential hazard, assess in relation of likelihood of an event as it relates to the potential impact severity or risk = probability x impact/loss. (Smith 2013). For preparedness, risk formulas are insufficient in the absence of context and consideration for social vulnerability, Birkmann (2007) encourages us to shift away from viewing disasters as large scale events ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Initial results of the digital search showed a predominance of earthquake information (90%), very few addressing fire (7%) and even fewer addressing both (3%) Additionally, only 8 % of web and mobile apps allowed for user interaction. (Fagg, Verucci Rickles 2015). The paper based advice we reviewed varied widely in quality, detail, and accessibility, but most focused on raising awareness of the hazard and general home based actions for general or single hazard preparedness specifically; minor acknowledgements of the potential for a subsequent and arising additional hazard (e.g. post earthquake shut off of gas if there is leak to prevent fire), but none noted the significant link between the two hazards. There is a further leap between the small fixes that can be enacted by individuals and those that are more significant or structural changes. These initial findings show a gap that our research might address. Yet, despite all of the information that exists, it has been noted that neither public perception of risk nor perceived knowledge of the hazard and government response arrangements alone are necessarily correlated to preparedness action either in intention to adopt mitigation measures or in their actual uptake (Lindell Whitney 2000). • 3. Comparing Vietnam And The United States The world has become more global as time is going through. However, there are still some significant differences when comparing between developed country and developing country, such as Vietnam and the United States. While the United States has been developed in many fields (economy, religions, educational system..), Vietnam is still in transition process. They are located on two different continents; they have so much difference on religious, languages, and practices although those distinctions are seemed to get more narrow than before. People are trying to adopt the different culture, as they still the keep their traditional practices of their own culture. Wedding life, food, and the educational system are the typical things, which have the similarities and differences at the same time. Firstly, the wedding life for couples is significantly different even though it still has some few things similar. In both countries, the couples will an engagement ceremony before getting to an actual wedding ceremony. They both will receive wedding rings from their lovers. Also, they will sometime hold a reception the celebration party in when they share theirs happiness to their friends and happiness. On the other hand, there are still some contrasts between for the couple before and after the wedding. • 4. Job Consolidation Is A Great Idea For Suncoast Hotel We at White Board Consulting believe that job consolidation is a great idea for SunCoast Hotel (SCH) to help solve their current scheduling problems and help management transition during the expansion. Further, this job consolidation approach can help prevent problems that might arise in the future. Having a Guest Service Staff (GSS) position will allow these employees to be more efficient in their day to day operations since they will be able to function within in each department of the hotel. Idle time for employees will also be reduced because instead of just being confined to only completing tasks one department, the GSS is will be able multitask in different department. Management will also have a flexibility of moving employees from department to department without having to use time and labor retain employees. Having a Guest Service Staff might also be a beneficial position in the long run for the SunCoast Hotel. Currently there is is a 35 percent average turnover rate for hotel employees; 10 percent is through natural attrition. If employees are being used more efficiently and given a wide range of task to complete, WB consulting believes that this turnover rate will decrease due to a positive increase in affective commitment. Engaging the employees more and setting up a healthy relationship with management, we believe, will have a very strong positive impact for job satisfaction. Employees will see the big picture and see how their work directly effects that, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My Health Behavior Change Project Essay Running head: BEHAVIOR CHANGE 1 My Health Behavior Change Project UNKNOWN AUTHOR EXAMPLE Palm Beach State College Honors College BEHAVIOR CHANGE 2 Abstract This health behavior change project focuses on expanding my consumption of all food groups, primarily vegetables and seafood. Based on a week log of my current eating habits, using super tracker, I am consuming below recommended intakes in all my food groups, the worst being my primary objectives (vegetables, and seafood) with near 0 grams of ingestion. This can lead to many deficiencies and diseases, like malnutrition according to Michelle McGuire, and Kathy Beerman (2006) in their book Nutritional Sciences: From Fundamentals to Food (p. 30). Based on the theory of transtheoretical model of behavior change, I am in the contemplation phase (Choosing Health, 2012, by April Lynch, Barry Elmore, and Tanya Morgan). With advice from Mrs. Ciucci, a Palm Beach State College health instructor, I am finally ready to make a S.M.A.R.T goal based on my preferences. • 6. Teenage Smoking Essay Teenage Smoking When I went to visit my grandmother in the hospital, she was critically ill. I heard the doctor say that she would have a much better chance of survival if she had not been a smoker most of her life. I made the decision then that I would not smoke. Every day more than 3,000 teenagers become regular smokers. That number translates to more than 1 million teenagers a year. About one third of them will eventually die from a tobacco related disease. Cigarettes kill more than 400,000 Americans every year. A person who smokes a pack or more of cigarettes each day will live about seven fewer years than a nonsmoker. Further, smoking hurts young people s physical performance and endurance. Smoking in young people can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another cause of the increase in smoking among teenagers is the fact that teens are made to believe that smoking is cool. Our teenage years are a time when we are unsure of ourselves and have a great deal of peer pressure put on us to fit in. The tobacco industry knows this, and bombard teens with advertisements and billboards that encourage smoking. These advertisements and billboards illustrate that if we smoke we will fit in and have more friends. Cigarette advertisers also try to demonstrate that women who smoke are sexy, men are manly, and that smokers have fun and lots of friends. In order to counter all this false advertising, there should be an promotional campaign that portrays the disgusting aspects of smoking. The advertising should show a cigarette hanging out of a woman s mouth and describe how repugnant the woman smells from the cigarette smoke. Another solution would be to ban all cigarette smoking in movies so that teens are not given the message that if they want to look like a movie star, smoke. Furthermore, cigarettes are easily accessible to teens, and so it is the parents duty to talk to their children and set an example. Parents who are involved and show interest in their teen s life can help to prevent the teen from smoking. Teens who are not close to a parent are at a greater risk to succumb to peer pressure. They may feel that they have no one to talk to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Consumer Spending Essay example Consumer Spending ECO 2301 Principles of Macroeconomics Anthony Le November 30th, 2011 Consumer Spending Consumer spending is defined as the goods and services bought by the households in the satisfaction of their wants and needs. (BusinessDictionary.com). It is also known as personal consumption expenditure and is the largest part of aggregate demand or effective demand at the macroeconomic level. Why is consumer spending important in the U.S. economy? This leaves less money to pay for discretionary purchases that help fuel economic growth. It is estimated that every $1 increase in the price of gasoline translates into an additional cost of $1,000 a year for most drivers. As a result, low income households began to feel pressures from higher energy bills, which already affected negatively discounted retailers. Long term, the pain at the pump could become more widespread. A survey released in April by the Financial Services Forum, an association of the CEOs of 20 large U.S. financial institutions, reported its members view escalating energy prices as the biggest threat to U.S. economic growth, ahead of rising health care costs and terrorism. The rise in gasoline also caused the fall in auto sales. Cars and light trucks were sold at an average 11.41 annual rate in June, the slowest in a year. (Chandra) Besides household incomes, high fuel cost and energy prices, interest rate is another key factor that determines consumer spending in the economy. Interest rate hikes have already reduced demand for mortgage refinancing and home equity loans, two significant sources of cash that increased consumer spending in recent years. As interest rate rose, consumers most likely found it less desirable and less reasonable to borrow against the equity in their homes. As a result, they tend to put off buying luxury goods for their home, such as TVs, entertainment systems, or other goods. With the above aspects, we as consumers are ... Straightening the streams is when the streams are smoothed out or straightened with concrete (Waitakere.Govt.Nz , 2002). This can cause the stream to lack objects such as rocks. Abu Dhabi in the present day is a modern city with tall skyscrapers and wide grid pattern roads. Being the capital of United Arab Emirates, it is the country s center of political and industrial activities. As a former desert strip, Abu Dhabi is now known for its greenery and a prosperous city because of its revenues from oil, technology and tourism. The traditional architecture of the city is resulted in these three factors, the economy, the climate, and the people s lifestyle. Back in the day, the population of UAE is very unevenly distributed; there is a dense amount of people living in Abu Dhabi due to its abundance of water and palm trees. The construction of forts and citadels were very popular during that era. While forts were being used accommodation, citadels were commonly used as a defensive structure used in more urban or densely populated areas and was associated specifically with a powerful leader. The lower classes lived in houses built with perishable materials such as palm frond and woven palm mat while the higher classes lived in stone, mud brick and coral houses built by professional builders. [1] Figure 1 shows a typical house in a village built using woven palm mats, mostly inhabited by lower class families [2] Another factor that affected the traditional architecture of Abu Dhabi was the climate. Because of its arid climate, one of the solutions was to build wind towers, which is a concave V shape to deflect wind down to cool the spaces below it. Buildings were also built close to each other, with narrow alleys between them, called the sikkas. These rely on the northern winds to flow freely and into spaces to ensure ventilation. Robert Pirsig s Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry into Values Confronting crises of technological annihilation and personal madness, Robert Pirsig finds each to be a manifestation of a deeper crisis of Reason. In response) he suggests an alternative to our current paradigm of rationality, the art of motorcycle maintenance. By showing that our understanding and performance derive from our emotional and evaluative commitments, he challenges the cultural commonplace which construes subjective states as distortions of objective reality. In so doing, he asserts that wholeness or sanity may be achieved only through passionate caring, and an awareness and acceptance of how our emotions and values shape our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet whereas we are never left alone by our technology, we are increasingly lonely, alienated from our deepest selves. For we have lost touch with our own feelings, being educated to ignore them in order to function in a technological world. Like Bergman s intellectual illiterates, we are so uneducated about our inner feelings that we only learn to talk about them when we break down, and have to be repaired by the analyst, at the Group, or in the asylum. For, we learn, our feelings distort our objective perceptions, and thus prevent us from functioning like our machines. In this vein, Andy Warhol wryly recalls that he had always wanted to be like a machine, for then it was easier to get along with people. We thus find ourselves fragmented, our feelings alienated from our world, our lives as well as our literature being characterizable by T. S. Eliot s phrase, dissociation of sensibility. Parallel to this public, cultural crisis of technologically induced fragmentation, Pirsig faces his own personal crisis of fragmentation or madness. Some years earlier he had been declared clinically insane, and underwent electro shock therapy to annihilate his mad personality. This earlier self, whom he now calls Phaedrus, had gone mad as a result of a search for Truth which led him ultimately to repudiate Reason itself.[1] Pursuing the ghost of reason through ... The United States Involvement During The Vietnam War The United States involvement in the Vietnam War primarily between the years 1964 and 1968 were brought about by the many hostilities and frustrations predominately based on issues of the Cold War, communism, the Policy of Containment, and the Domino Theory. When the United States first got involved in the Vietnam War in the first half of the 1960s, problems had been ongoing for quite sometime and were continuing to increasingly get worse. Throughout the period of U.S. involvement in the war, there were many supporters and non supporters that included various political groups, interest groups, students, Civil Rights groups, and the military. Through all of the issues of U.S. involvement up to the major events that took place during the time period of 1964 1968, a great deal happened and the U.S. was unsuccessful in attaining the goal that it wished to achieve in Vietnam; ending the reign of communism. Arising out of issues originating in the Cold War and primarily the stopping of the spread of communism, the Vietnam War had a lasting impact that would never be forgotten. Many Americans believed that the containment doctrine, which was devised by George Kennan, was the key doctrine that got the United States involved in the Vietnam War to begin with; however, others say that no president really decided to go to wage war in Vietnam but instead became involved because of increasing commitment over many years (Brinkley, 843). The Ethics Of A Systematic Disaster Plan When a mass casualty has stricken the nation such as the incidents of 9/11, the plane crash of a TWA 800, or the Oklahoma City bombing; each incident involved some level of planning after the incident took place. The planning process for managing an emergency has to take into considerations certain factors such as the level of the devastation, what resources are needed, and how to eliminate the likelihood of the same incident from occurring again. The basis of every decision emergency managers will need to make revolve around ethical decisions when conducting the planning process. Ethics is defined as the moral principles that govern a person s or group s behavior (Oxford Dictionary, n.d.). As it relates to first responders and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Will funding go to areas where there is a least likely chance of restoration or does funding go to those areas where there is a better chance of rescue? There is an ethical duty owed to citizens during a mass casualty especially during the decision making process because every life should matter regardless of the cost on the local, state, or federal level. When addressing concerns for impoverished areas, special consideration should be a concern for many emergency managers before an incident would to hit the community (Danz, 2014). In the realm of emergency management, there are five ethical decision making theories that are used as a guide when developing an emergency management and preparedness plan. There theories are the utilitarian approach, rights approach, fairness or justice approach, common good approach, and the virtue approach. Each theory is designed with a specific end goal in mind while taking into account the various concerns regarding funding, resources, and the rescue/recovery phases. Analysis Of Sister Aloysius And James Sisters Aloysius and James as Representatives of Social Duality The play Doubt: A Parable by John Patrick Shanley was first staged at the Manhattan Theatre Club in 2004 and won the Pulitzer Prize the next year. In the play, the author touches upon a set of urgent social topics, such as pedophilia, abuse, faith, and moral considerations. Also, the author dwells upon a controversial image of a nun with the example of two main female characters of the play, Sister Aloysius, and Sister James: though having dedicated their lives to the same goal, these women are entirely different in their experiences, characters, and moral considerations. First, the sisters have different life experiences and social backgrounds. Sister Aloysius is a middle aged woman, who was married, but after her husband died in the war against Adolph Hitler (Shanley 1525) she decided to dedicate her life to God. Being an experienced teacher, Sister Aloysius is chosen to be the principal of the St. Nicolas School and she successfully holds the position for many years. During her long life, she witnesses war, death, and many terrible deeds committed by people. All this makes her believe less of her heart and more of her mind. As for Sister James, the innocent soul (Cullingford 256) , she is very young and has just started her path as a nun and a teacher. The lack of experience makes her search for new approaches to teaching, which are strange and unacceptable for the principal. As a result, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Changing Lives with the Fifth Agrement by Don Miguel Ruiz The Fifth Agreement Published in 2011, The Fifth Agreement is a sequel to The Fourth Agreement, and offers another powerful agreement for changing lives. The authors Don Miguel Ruiz and his son Don Jose Ruiz inspire the readers to see the truth and to alter the message they communicate to themselves and the people around them. According to them, the fifth agreement is the pathway to complete inner peace and self satisfaction. Whereas the first four agreements are about breaking free from thousands of agreements that create unnecessary suffering, the fifth agreement helps regain the power of authenticity, which is the true character that we are born with. These agreements are 1) be impeccable with your words, 2) don t take anything personally, 3) don t make assumptions, 4) always do your best, and 5) be skeptical, but learn to listen. The authors include stories from the Bible, and make reference to heaven and hell to demonstrate their point. At the beginning of the novel, they talk about the relationship between God and men. In the story, God and Adam are walking around together, when God asks him how he would like to name everything (Ruiz and Ruiz 20). It is in this conversation between God and Adam that the authors explain the meaning of objective and subjective perceptions. Clinical Reasoning and Judgement in The Nursing Process Critical thinking and clinical reasoning are essential skills to develop a sound clinical judgement. Nurses use critical thinking models and processes to support and organize the interventions that they perform in the clinical setting. In the scenario of Mr. Patient requesting for a Do Not Resuscitate order, I used the nursing process to serve as the framework of the patient care and the Lasater s Clinical Judgment Rubric by Kathie Lasater (2007) to guide my reflection. In this paper, I will describe the skills that were used in relation to the nursing process, provide analysis of the model and application of learning in terms of CNO competencies, and evaluate my clinical decision making in terms of patient outcomes. While, the nursing process, served as a guide to organize my thought process in relation to the overall picture of the patient, I also incorporated thinking structures such as ABC and Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs to determine the prioritization in each activity. Furthermore, I utilized the Structured Prebriefing Worksheet by Karin Page Cutrara (2015) to make inferences from the data before engaging in the scenario. Clinical Reasoning Skills in Scenario The main clinical issue in the scenario is the need of a Do Not Resuscitate order by the client. In the pre briefing process, I predicted that the patient needs medication to reduce his chronic pain related to his previous medical history of prostate cancer and transurethral resection of prostate. Using the nursing process, I am able to systematically assess and deliver appropriate interventions to the patient. I prioritize his chronic pain over his feelings, based on the Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs. As I complete his physical assessment, I noticed that his pain level is the only variable that is out of the normal limits. I examined his pain in detail using the PQRST pain assessment tool. I tried to look for more gaps in my assessment when I inquire about his feelings in which I learned that patient would like to have a DNR order. In the planning phase, the health care team had a discussion about prioritization. On one hand, the patient s pain level is eight out of ten that needed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The English had a much larger population in their colonies than the Spanish, in fact, in 1700; there was a total population of 250,000 in the English colonies compared to 4,500 in the Spanish. A larger population in the colonies meant there was more manpower for work and, in addition, a greater wealth development. This led to a greater distinction between the English and the Spanish, which was the mass level by which slaves were used in colonial society. The Spanish too had similar ways of acquiring cheap labor services by establishing the Encomienda system. This system, unlike the English, exploited the Indians for personal profits rather than slaves imported from Africa. As English colonies, particularly in the south, focused on establishing an agrarian society; the Spanish did not focus as much on maintaining an agriculture based society. In marked contrast to England s compact, densely populated settlements on the Atlantic, Spain established far flung inland networks of fortified trading posts and missions. Unlike the English, they were unable to attract large numbers of colonists, and thus enlisted Native Americans as trading partners and military allies. Introduction Nearly every day, you can read articles about urbanized countries throughout the world, with issues or concerns arising from individuals playing video games for excessive amounts of time. Individuals form addictions to a surge in excessive or violent behaviors, commonly found among teens or younger children. Studies also indicate playing excessive amounts of video games can also have an effect on your sleeping patterns in a negative way. For instance, playing an extreme amount of video games prior to going to bed may create a more difficult time in falling asleep. So, I decided to take on a similar yet different type of study to discover out how much video gaming an average high schooler plays each night and how this may affect how many hours of sleep he/she receives. I was unable to find any online articles for this type of study, so I decided to find out for myself using the high school population at a local school. As the study began, I did believe that students who participated in excessive video gaming may receive less sleep. Statement of Task The focus of this study was to investigate if the amount of time students spend playing video games each evening may have an influence on the quantity of sleep the average high school student receives. To determine this, I requested teachers to allow me to survey students during school hours in an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In particular, it was assumed that the market is in the state of equilibrium (i.e. all investors have finished to complete their portfolios), operational and transaction costs (payment of intermediaries services, staff, information services, taxes, etc.) are insignificant, the investor has the ability to receive and grant loans on the same risk free rate, and so on. Nevertheless, the idea that the market portfolio is probably close to an effective portfolio, initiated a passive portfolio management. This strategy means that when the investor prepares the portfolio, determining the expected return, he is focused entirely on the market portfolio and he doesn t carry on to make any changes in the composition of the portfolio after its formation. Hence is the name. The philosophy of passive management is to minimize the costs of market research and the formation of the portfolio if there is sufficient guarantee of obtaining a stable high yield. In fact, an investor, preparing the portfolio, is focused on some reference portfolio (benchmark portfolio), i.e. portfolio with standard yield in comparison with the actual yield of the portfolio manager. This is not necessarily to consider as a reference only the market portfolio.
