● Major releases, i.e. OpenNebula v6, denoted by a single major number
○ Significant additions that may involve deep changes in the core
○ May require a complex upgrade process for production environments
○ Approximately every 3-5 years
● Minor releases, i.e. OpenNebula v6.8, denoted by a major and a minor number
○ Enhancements, optimizations and bug fixes that may bring along small changes
to the core and database
○ Seamless update process for production environments following a pre-defined
migration path
○ 6-10 minor releases for each major, approximately one every 6 months

● STS version (Short Term Support)
○ Maintained and technically supported for a period of 7 months

● LTS version (Long Term Support)

■ All bug fixes and software patches with minor enhancements are pushed
from EE to CE version during previous maintenance cycle

version of OpenNebula that incorporates additional bug fixes
● Community Edition packages are made public
