History Of Women During The Revolutionary War
Maribel Rosales Professor Warner HIS 20122 April 2015 History of Women in US Military
From Continental Army Soldier Deborah Samson to Army Sergeant Leigh Ann Hester,
American ladies have been serving in the U.S. Military for several years. Women have been a
piece of the war exertion since the Revolutionary War, yet in the beginning of our country they
needed to mask themselves to serve alongside men. When they were acknowledged into the
military, ladies were given helper or supportive parts. As the weapons and strategies for fighting
changed in the late 20th century, in any case, the Pentagon started to soon understand that
whether you were female or male; it mattered less on the combat zone. Now going back in time
to the Revolutionary, Civil and Mexican Wars. A small number of women were involved in
combat. However they had to disguise themselves as men and enlist under aliases; a false or
assumed identity. One of these women was Deborah Samson Gannett. She was from Plymouth,
Massachusetts and was one of the first American woman soldiers. In the year 1782, she enlisted
under Robert Shurtleff Samson who was her brother who had passed away. For seventeen months,
Samson served in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. She was injured twice. She
cut a musket ball out of her own thigh so a doctor wouldn t find out she was a woman. Eventually
years later, in the year 1804, Samson was

The Legacy Of The Civil War
Times of war often debut new technology that shapes the future. Seeing as how the Civil War was
known as the first modern war, it is appropriate to say that much new technological advancement
was made. Behind every piece of new technology or idea, there is a person or team that dedicated
their time to the development. When it comes to the Civil Waraeronautics and much other future
advancement, Thaddeus S. C. Lowe is the man behind it. Lowe was an integral part in the success
of the aeronautics division of the war and paved the way for the world s future success in many
other fields.
Thaddeus Lowe s work was greatly under appreciated. He and other aeronauts proved time and
time again just how useful balloons could be, but, the work of Wise, Lowe, Steiner, and other
aeronauts as observers should have stirred up enthusiasm for balloons as military weapons, but
neither the Army nor the American public properly appreciated the potential of aeronautics
(Scamehorn 9). This never stopped Lowe from pursuing his dream. He fought to make ends meet
by taking odd jobs so he could finance his education in physics and other subjects that would
eventually set him up for his success in aeronautics. Through his persistent work, at thirty years of
age, Thaddeus Lowe had organized an aeronautics corps for the Union Army something that only
a handful of people wanted to see happen at the time (Military Intelligence Corps Hall of Fame).
Having gained the support of a few key figures, Lowe

Professional Development Survey Paper
Introduction Professional development is defined as an ongoing trainings, activities workshops,
coaching or learnings that help an employee gain skills related to his or her job responsibilities.
In education, on going professional development is a vital step to ensure that teachers are
equipped with best practices to prepare students for the future. According to Billingsley (2005),
Professional development goals needs to emerge from the needs of needs of teachers (p. 96). As
such, the use of surveys and interests polls is encouraged to determine the needs of teachers. After
identifying staff needs, it is crucial for a leader to plan and execute trainings aligned with Adult
Learning Theory to increase engagement, generalization and skill application. The purpose for this
paper is to evaluate the 2014 2015 professional development survey conducted by the Montgomery
County Intermediate Unit (MCIU). Furthermore, suggestions for improving the yearly practice will
be made to increase participant responses and the quality data collected. Finally, a professional

participants were targeted, only 22 actually completed the survey (G. Katch, personal

questions or only completed the first ten questions. In total, only 16 participants completed the

How Does Frodo Change In The Fellowship Of The Ring
The fellowship of the ring by J.R.R, Tolkien, is a novel set in a couple of different places. It all
takes place in Middle Earth. Inside Middle Earth there are places such as The hobbit town, Bag
end, and the Shire. This novel is about a very dangerous and exciting journey to destroy one
powerful ring which the protagonist of the novel, Frodo, possesses Throughout the novel, we can
see how Frodo has a major transformation in his personality with the help of some of his friends.
It is evident that Frodo is not the most heroic character, but he is still chosen to be the main
attraction in the fellowship of the ring and to keep the ring safe and secret. It all started when
Bilbo was in possession of the ring. He did not understand its true

Traumatic Brain Injury In Combat Veterans
Traumatic Brain Injury in Combat Veterans
Brandon M. Lape
Barry University
Traumatic Brain Injury, often referred by its acronym, TBI, has become the signature battle wound
for veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Traumatic Brain Injury in combat occurs with
trauma or injury to the skull, which causes disruptions in the brain. Most reported cases in post 9/11
veterans are associated with Improvised Explosive Devices used by the enemy against U.S. forces
and their allies. Other common causes of TBI in combat situations are caused rockets, mortars,
vehicle rollover incidents, and objects penetrating the brain. People are effected biologically in
different ways. The brainstem / hypothalamus, the limbic system, and the ... Show more content on

Veterans suffering from PTSD are unable to integrate the memories of the trauma properly.
Amnesia is likely to be caused by excessive norepinephrine (NE) or vasopressin release at the time
of the trauma. Memories of the trauma can also be triggered by physiological arousal. They tend to
relive the past and misinterpret innocuous stimuli as potential threats. They are also more sensitive
to sounds. Neutralizing stimuli in the environment to attend to relevant tasks is very difficult.
Instead they tend to shut down to compensate. This leads to decreased involvement in ordinary,
everyday life (Van der Kolk, B., McFarlane, A., Weisaeth, L., 1996).
Diagnosing PTSD and MTBI is done by grouping symptoms together, and difficulties in
differentiating between these brain disorders are caused by symptoms that occur in both disorders.
Even though the two can be difficult to discern by symptoms alone, in a brain scan, they are hardly
similar. A veteran with a traumatic brain injuryshows less activity in areas of the brain that are
linked to the ability to control mood and behavior, form memories and coordinate

Chemistry Practical on Rate of Reaction
Aim: The rate at which a reaction occurs, or takes place, is affected by various factors, such as
the temperature at which the experiment is conducted in, the pressure which is given, the
surface area which is exposed, use of catalysts, and the concentration. In this investigation, I
would be investigating the affect of surface area, or particle size, in the rate at which a reaction
occurs. Background Information: The more finely divided the solid is, the faster the reaction
happens. A powdered solid will normally produce a faster reaction than if the same mass is
present as a single lump. The powdered solid has a greater surface area than the single lump.
Note: Why normally? What exceptions can there be? Imagine a case of a very fine... Show more

And then take the powder of the same reactant and react it with equal amount of the liquid. This
factor will be manipulated by keeping the mass of both the stripe/ribbon and the powder
constant. As if the mass is different of the stripe/ribbon and the powder, the results won t be
accurate. Dependent Variable: The dependent variable in this investigation will be the time
required for the reaction between the liquid and the stripe/ribbon and the powder to be
completed. Because, the investigation is based on the affect of surface area in the rate at which
reaction occurs. Constant Variable: The constant variable in this investigation will be the
temperature, pressure, concentration, catalyst, and the amount of the reactants used. This is
because, these are some of the other factors, which affect the rate at which a reaction occurs. A
rise in temperature will result in an increased rate of reaction and vice versa. This is because the
energy in the particles, which will react, will have higher energy resulting in a higher frequency
of effective collisions to take place. An increase in concentration and pressure will also increase
the rate of reaction. This is because, the reacting particles become more crowded resulting in an
increased chance of particles colliding. A catalyst is a substance that speeds up a reaction without
itself being used up. The amount of both the reactants will also be kept constant by using the same
mass of the ribbon/stripe for

Film Analysis Of Mommy And Ida
Xavier Dolan s Mommy (2014) and Pawel Pawlikowski s Ida (2013) epitomize visual
masterpieces. Mommy won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and competed as a
nomination for the Palme d Or; Ida won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. In
relation to the synopsis, the films are dichotomous, the former depicts the relationship between a
single mother and her teenage son; the latter follows a young nun and the legacy of the Holocaust
in post World War II Poland. Also, in terms of color and visual style the films diverge, Mommy
utilizes bright colors and multiple closeups, whereas and Ida is in black and white and uses a
multitude of cinematographic techniques. Both films represent divergent styles, but contain
myriad elements for a visual analysis. Mommy is ultimately about an intense mother/son
relationship. At the beginning of the film, Diane DesprГ©s picks up her son Steve from a juvenile
detention facility, from which he had been expelled. Steve s impulsive and violent behavior led to
his temporary incarceration. Throughout the 2 hour and 19 minute run time, Diane and Steve
attempt to rebuild their fraught relationship, with the major barrier being Steve s behavior and
Diane s inability to provide him assistance. The introduction of the DesprГ©s neighbor, Kyla,
attempts to heal the relationship; however, the film concludes in an act of impulsively suicidal
desperation. Pawlikowski s Ida takes place in Poland in the 1960s, with the effects of the

The Paleolithic Era
Human technology and social development fostered the rapid movement of people throughout the
globe during the latter phases of the Paleolithic Era. Many developments allowed the early hunter
gathers to cope with various environmental pressures. The first development is fire which was the
advance towards humantechnology. Fire was considered the most centered element in their culture.
They formed the technique to preserve glowing embers and starting fires by rubbing sticks together.
This technique led to many improvements in the Paleolithicpeople. It allowed people to eat much a
wider range of food since they could now cook them. With fire, they could eat animals such as
cow, goat, and chicken. Not only was fire used to cook meat, but it

New Hampshire Visit
My mother held the reason for the family s New Hampshire visit, two tickets to a race at New
Hampshire Motor Speedway. While my parents attended the race in the sweltering heat, my sister,
Catlyn, and I had the entire day to ourselves. We didn t have much of a plan besides spending the
day without our parents. Catlyn and I agreed to explore the area around Hampton, starting near our
hotel. We found a pamphlet for a group of outlet stores. Upon further inspection of the pamphlet,
we realized that outlets were in Maine. This fact had confused us. To our knowledge New
Hampshire and Maine seemed too far for a day s drive. When we found directions on our phones we
noticed that it would only take twenty minutes. Wait, so it only takes twenty minutes... Show more

We still had plenty of time in the day to get to Kittery, so Catlyn and I set off for Maine. As our
parents didn t have the pleasure of knowing that we decided to drive to Maine, we thoughtfully
sent them a picture of the Welcome to Maine sign, leaving them to question why we left the state.
We arrived at Kittery sometime near noon. After walking around in the summer heat, we stopped
at a Bose factory store. The moment we walked into the store we fell under a trance to try on
every single pair of headphones. Ooh, noise cancelling, my sister said with a sarcastic tone. We
compared pairs of headphones and enjoyed the cool air conditioning. We had to pick up every
pair and check, possibly double check, the cushions and the way the headphones felt when we
wore them. The time spent in the Bose store was well needed as the air conditioning was
perfectly set to cool us during the warm day. After our folly in the store we decided to check the
rest of the outlet stores to possibly find more nonsensical things to mess around with. We stopped
into a store called Brookstone after. This store is known for its odd gadgets and assortment of
massage chairs. This store didn t interest us as much because everything interesting was not out on
display, but instead stuck inside a

American Empire Vs Ottoman Empire
We have lost control of most of the land that used to make up the Ottoman Empire, our Empire is
falling apart; all we want to do is to keep what land we have for as long as we can. We have also
spent a great amount of money during the war and just want a chance to recover and stabilize.
We, the Ottoman Empire, prefer to end colonization, if the colonies of the European countries
were to become independent we could possibly make alliances with them to expand our
influence. We favor this idea because we believe we can become friends with these small
countries and we then can benefit and help each other. Also, we have less to fear from a Europe of
small countries than a Europe of large states. Although this would not bring back our Empire, it

Louis Zamperini Character Analysis
Life is not a bed of roses rather it is a bed of thorns. Sometimes it looks like paradise but on the
other hand it seems like a hell. It depends on human beings how they response under different
circumstances. The one human being I believe went through adversities was Louis Zamperini.
Zamperini was a POW in Japan. He went through various struggles such as being stranded in the
ocean, being tortured in a death camp, starvation; he even used his last bit of strength to save his
friends. Louis Zamperini was a man of many traits but the three that stick out to me are having
forgiveness, being a leader, and being an inspiration to many.
The definition of forgive is to stop feeling angry or resentful toward (someone) for an offense,
flaw, or mistake. Louis, in the movie, showed great examples of forgiveness to the people who
brutally tortured him. After being tortured in a Japanese death camp, Louis became determined to
forgive all of his captors. In 1950, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

lives of his friends. After a near death experience, Zamperini used the last of his energy to save the

Louis Zamperini received harsh punishment in the camps but that didn t stop him. Losing his
dignity and freedom, Lou stood strong in his beliefs, even with being subjected to harsh
punishment. Even though he couldn t fight them physically, Louis fought his captors evil doings
any way he could. Louis Zamperini fought for his country, and he protected and tended to his

Persuasive Essay On Online Bullying
In today s progressive world, I believe it is better to consider online bullying in an immersed
online ethnographic research method, in order to fully understand how bullying is enacted in
an online world. It s also important to take this approach in order to understand what s
misunderstood about online bullying as a whole. Boyd (2010) states that if we are to know if
online platforms act as a tool for teenagers to perpetuate violence in the real world , we must
look at what they are doing online. Boyd finds that bullying does not dramatically go up or down
when social media is introduced (Boyd 2015, 152). Digital spaces that are important in the lives
of youth need to be understand both locally, and in global contexts. Mallan, Ashford and Singh s
(2010) article discusses iscapes as a way for todays youth to hang out or communicate. The authors
seek to answer the question, how do interactions across iscapes affect the identity work carried out
by today s youth. ( Mallan et al. 2010, 265).
Decheneaut et al. (2010) looks at an immersive ethnography in several online digital worlds. Bonilla
and Rosa state boldly that by using social media as their platform, subscribers can demand public
attention, and garner the attention from anthropologists by using hashtags (Bonilla et al. 2015, 5).
Technology changes how bullying is acted out, furthermore we consider online ethnographic
fieldwork in relationship to bullying as a real and viable part of anthropological studies.

Sir Francis Galton (1869, 1883) quantified traits that were assumed to be correlated, and
developed the first comprehensive test of intelligence. By the end of the 19th century, the
foundation was laid for modern day intelligence testing (Wicket, 1998). In 1905, the French
psychologist Alfred Binet published the first modern intelligence test to identify students who
needed special help in coping with the school curriculum (Neiser, et al. 1996). Shortly thereafter
in 1908 and 1911, Alfred Binet and Theodore Simon published revisions of the Binet intelligence
test (Wicket). The mental age concept was adopted to express the results in adequate units. The
concept is based on an individual s performance in comparison to the average performance of
individuals in a specific chronological age group (Kaplin, Saccuzzo). A further refinement of the
Stanford Binet scale and translation (for American culture) was published in 1916 by Lewis M.
Terman, who adopted Stern s proposal that an individual s intelligence level be measured as an
intelligence quotient (I. Q.). The IQ score presumably represented an individual s rate of mental
development as a quotient, between mental age and actual chronological age times 100 (to remove
the decimal). Terman s test, known colloquially as the Stanford Binet test, formed the basis for

The Enlightenment And Rousseau s Role Of Women In The...
The Enlightenment was an era when many classical ideas about culture, governance, and the laws
of nature were challenged by brilliant philosophical minds. The whole intellectual landscape was
changing and a new emphasis on reason was placed, and it was during this time that women
became more involved in public life through travel, conversation, reading and writing. (22) With
their increased involvement in the Salons and Masonic lodges that made up the public sphere, and
in essays, letters and novels, women were finally starting to be heard, and their general education
was put on the intellectual agenda as never before. (22) But despite the growing influence of female
voices everywhere in the Western world, women were still excluded from formal higher
education, (22) and the prevailing notion of women back then could be perfectly summed up by
Rousseau in his essay Duties of Women, where he explains that women are specially made for
man s delight, (569) and women will always be in in subjection to a man, or to his judgment, and
she will never be free to set her own opinions above his. (579) Even today there still isn t equality
between the sexes, but we have come a long way from the world as Rousseau describes it, and the
whole discipline of feminist studies may have never existed without the groundwork that was laid
by proud men and women alike who assert that women were more than just the property of the
husband, and were just as integral to society as their

Philosophies of Meditations by Marcus Aurelius Essay...
Marcus Aurelius
Even today, Meditations by Marcus Aurelius is read by every class from kings to common people.
The book is a universal classic, meaning it can be related to at any time, by anyone. The
philosophies included in his book have spanned the centuries, and Meditations remains to be one of
the most influential books ever written.
Marcus Aurelius was born on April 20, 121 AD into a family of royalty. His uncle and adoptive
father, Antoninus Pius, was the emperor of Rome. Aurelius, too, was trained from birth to be a
great ruler like his father. At age eleven, he dedicated himself to religion, although he considered
philosophy to be the true, inward religion, one which did not require ceremonies necessary in others.

He also tried to humanize criminal laws, and have masters treat there slaves in a humane way. After
Aurelius, Romans would miss such fair treatment.
#9;After nineteen years of ruling Rome, Marcus Aurelius died on March 17, 180 in Vindobona,
which is currently Vienna. He died of a plague while in the middle of yet another war to defend
the territory of Rome. Aurelius was succeeded by his son, Commodus, who was the polar
opposite of his father. Commodus was a corrupt and evil ruler. Apparently, his father was never
aware of this fact, for Commodus fooled him into believing they were of the same mind when it
came to ruling. Commodus was the first of the bad emperors to Aurelius last of the good emperors.
This lack of an able ruler cemented the descent of the Roman empire.
#9;Throughout his life, Aurelius was never able to be happy being an emperor. Even though he
had money and privileges, and was royalty, he never became tranquil, or at peace with himself,
with these material riches. It is evident when a person reads Meditations that Aurelius would

Perception of fear among female prisoners housed in a maximum security prison
Operational definition of fear The synonyms of fear is terror or horror. It can also classified as
anticipation of some known or unknown danger. This anticipation makes us afraid. Sometimes
some special feelings or unpleasant memories are also associated that results in fear. Fear can also
be associated with the anticipation of physical and/or mental pain.
The female inmates in a prison are in the close confines of a specific area. They are residing with
unknown people and in hostile conditions. The prison inmates may or may not be their friends.
Female prisoners may face many dangers in the form of sexual assaults, indifference of inmates,
psychological and mental pressure along with the pain of separation from their loved ones. Here
we can apply the concept of operational fear to the minds of millions of female inmates living in
prisons. Their fear from other inmates is not unfounded.
Open ended questions are the questions that have no specific answer. Here the person answering the
questions has the liberty to answer the question as he/she feels like. Open ended questions give us
insight about the mindset of the person as well as their experiences. These questions provide a
wealth of information about the perceptions of the inmates. They are interactive and interpretative
in nature.

How Does Raph Use Ethos In Lord Of The Flies
Raph tends to use logos and Jack relies on ethos. They both use a variety of ethos, pathos, and
logos in their ultimate goal of persuading the boys to join their tribes. Ralph s balance of rhetoric
makes him the dominant leader based on his traits compared to Jack. Ralph and Jack use ethos,
credibility, of leadership in attempt of winning the other boys respect. For example, as Jack
tries to gain the vote of the other boys he declares, I ought to be chief... because I m chapter
chorister and head boy (22). Jack feels his ability to sing and experience with controls would
make him a good leader. When it comes to survival, singing will not benefit any of of the boys, so
it is an unnecessary talent. He believe he has credibility as chapter chorister and head boy, so that
makes him qualified for the position. Moreover, Ralph... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The boys forget the main goal, being rescued. Ralph repeatedly reminds them, If a ship comes
near the island... we must make a fire (38). Ralph knows the chances of being rescued are slim,
but creating a fire will increase those chances. This decision reveals Ralph s ability to
collaborate with the others in order to get the necessary work done. The fire is a logical idea
because is someone sees it they will eventually be rescued. Comparatively, Jack uses his
resources when no one knows how to start a fire as he commands, His specs use them as burning
glasses! (40). Jack resourcefulness of using the glasses to start the fire not only works, but helps
them get rescued, keeps them warms, and allows them to cook. Nevertheless, Jack forcefully
taking Piggy s lenses is a symbol of lack of respect because he takes advantage of Piggy after
viewing his vulnerability. Jack uses Piggy s glasses is resourceful because they can use the lenses
to create a fire with the sunlight. Their decisions display their responsibility and how they both

The battle at Kursk FALLOUTS OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR: Due to Pressure from the
enlarging German army in 1939, Britain was under pressure to also increase its army.
Conscription was introduced in April 1939, women that were unmarried and between the ages
of 19 30 were conscripted and sent to factories to work on production of military goods. Single
men between 20 and 23 were required to serve in one of the armed forces. About 3.2 million
British men were conscripted for the Second World War. The United States also introduced
conscription in 1940 when there was high unemployment and by 1943, there was a high shortage
of manpower[10] Canada was a great contributor of soldiers and resources among the small allied
powers of the war. About 10% of its population were either conscripted or worked for the military
during World War II.[11] The economic effect of conscription was serious because it meant a great
reduction in the number of taxpayers whilst an increase in government spending to train, maintain
and pay military. Also, many women became widows and breadwinners of the family after the
death of their husbands during service CONCLUSION: The second world war brought dire

Centralized Student Information Center The scope of the required project is considerable, as the
system would need to include information relating to 10,000 students who are enrolled in courses

a result any development methodology would need to take into consideration the system
requirements and how these can best be implemented. Although various options are available for
the development methodology the two recommendations are for either a Scrum based approach

Design Specified requirements are transformed into designs and models. Accuracy is very
important due to the difficulties in amending the design at a later stage. Coding Testing The final
design is converted into a software platform which is then tested for bugs and errors as well as to
ensure that the required functionality is in place. There will also be an element of user acceptance
testing to determine the acceptability of the solution. Implementation Following final approval, the
software is deployed into the production environment. Maintenance The product is monitored and
updated with patches and fixes as required as well as any configuration changes to meet changing
needs of the organization. The proposed Student Information System could be developed using both
methods, yet each with its own unique challenges. The main issue which is relevant relates
specifically to the prioritization of development time in short cycles which may be difficult to
reconcile with the needs of the Information System. However, this will allow for frequent changes

Ian Mcewan s Enduring Love
In Enduring Love, by Ian McEwan, madness brings the characters together. It is what drives
relationships, starts conflicts, and maintains love, or so some think. In the case of Joe and Jed,
madness envelops them. Throughout the story, madness and irrationality play an important role in
maintaining the relationships of Joe and Jed and of Joe and Clarissa.
In the case of Joe and Clarissa, irrationality is what both drives them apart and keeps them
together. Initially, Joe starts out as a fairly rational person. His profession is writing about science
and using facts to back up his logic. He expresses these interests while rambling about a recent
science piece he has been scripting:
But I pulled myself together and made myself finish a piece ... Show more content on

Development Of A Simulation Management System
Summary
The main contribution of the proposed research is the development of a Simulation Management
System. Simulation models are vital to modern scientific research. These models tend to be
extremely complex, often with many sources of uncertainties and numerous factors. To understand
the impact of these factors and their interactions, on the simulation model results, requires effective
design of experiments. DoE allows construction of well defined procedures for ordering experiment
outcomes and offers a framework that can be used to replicate and validate those outcomes. In this
study, we propose an approach that integrates concepts of model driven engineering, intelligent
agent technology, and variability modeling to support the management of the lifecycle of a
simulation experiment. The Model Driven Engineering (MDE) methodology provides a framework
and strategy to move from the platform independent experiment domain space to the technical
space involving platform specific executable simulation experiment scripts. Experiment design
modeling is introduced for configurable experiment synthesis and execution. Feature oriented
variability modeling is used to design a family of experiments by allowing explicit specification of
variability in the configuration of experiments Adaptation is needed for continuous management of
stochastic simulation experiments. In simulation lifecycle management systems, adaptation is
proposed for dynamic experiment model updating.

Medea Written by Euripides
Medea
. Medea written by Euripides tells the tale of a woman scorn. Medea is set in a city called Corinth.
The play starts off in front of Jason and Medea s house. The play is a tragedy that shows the
tragic ending of a family. For Medea was betrayed by her husband and exiled from the city. With
such a tremendous act of betrayal is Medea a victim of love or is she a villain who has no mercy.
Her motive makes her a deceiving victim, for Medea is a villain that is playing the role of a damsel
in distress to get her way.
Fate is a power that control what happens in the future and is beyond some control. Medea was not
the typical heroine to be dictated by fate but yet fate played a part in her demise. Fate predicted the
downfall to come for she had risked her life in order to stay by her lover side, going as far as to
killing her brother. The servants and women recognized Medea s ill fate from the display of
madness she shown. Was fate the reason for Medea to be a victim or did her own cruel emotions
make her the villain. Villain is a cruel malicious person who is involved in or devoted to
wickedness or crime Medea let passion and rage guide her into wickedness thus making her a
villain.

Rosencrantz And Guildenstern, By William Shakespeare Essay
Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead begins with confusion and ends in
bewilderment. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are minor characters in Shakespeare s Hamlet.
Stoppard takes Rosencrantz and Guildenstern out of the Hamlet reality and creates a new world for
them, a world where they are lead characters. However, in Rosencrantz and Guildensterns new
reality, limitations and constraints arise. Many of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern s adventures and
actions have already been written by Shakespeare which only gives Stoppard so much to
incorporate for himself. Stoppard actually does an exceptional job in giving Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern s a plot for themselves, he does this through the manner of Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern s incomprehensibility of the world and their difficulty in making meaningful
decisions. To an extent, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern did have the ability to make their own
choices and to an extent, they didn t. In this essay I will discuss just how much Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern s capability for action, existential choice and death were already written before
Stoppard even picked up a pen. The majority of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern s narrative has
already been written by Shakespeare. The characters try to break free of this narrative by the way
they frequently discuss fate, chance and the difference between reality and acting. Stoppard takes
many themes from Hamletand incorporates them well within his play, however, his

Chinese Triads Research Paper
Threat: Chinese Triads pose threats to U.S. national security in relation to drug and human
trafficking. In the United States, these groups are active in most metropolitan areas that have a
large Chinese population, and typically keep their activities limited to those areas. Within these
areas they are often responsible for heroin and methamphetamine trafficking, human trafficking and
intimidation/protection practices. While documented triad activity in the United Statesreached a
peak in the 1990s, it is not clear if activity has truly been curbed or if the nature of privacy within
the Chinese subculture is preventing the threat from being properly documented. Although Triads
are active within the United States, their involvement in allied states poses an additional threat to
U.S. security and its interests.
Background: The history of Chinese Triads within the United States is closely linked with the
history of Chinese and Hong Kong based triads. The original Chinese Triad formed during the 17th
century, and wanted to overthrow the Qing dynasty and bring back the Ming dynasty. However, by

The objectives of the Mercury Project, as stated at the time of project go ahead, were as follows:
Place a manned spacecraft in orbital flight around the earth.
Investigate man s performance capabilities and his ability to function in the environment of space.
Recover the man and the spacecraft safely. After the objectives were established for the project, a
number of guidelines were established to insure that the most expedient and safest approach for
attainment of the objectives was followed. The basic guidelines that were established are as follows:

The simplest and most reliable approach to system design would be followed.

An automatic blood pressure measuring system for use in flight.
Instruments for sensing the partial pressures of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the oxygen

Redundancy probably increased the complexity of the systems more than

It is very important to analyze the evolution that has taken Latin America because many countries
have made lobbying and plan strategies that have served to encourage better structure and have
significant growth in this area, though often stagnate countries and are limited in their development.
This will be to analyze the case of Nicaragua, where Sandino was a critical piece representing a key
to liberation and democracy in their country, in addition to being a hero to the entire population.
As time and watch the victories of Sandino, Nicaragua was formed within the Sandinista National

The Theory Of Biological Psychology
Introduction Many careers today benefit from the foundational knowledge of biological
psychology, some on the form of new understandings of technology and new understandings of
brain and body communication. The selected research problem is the effects on stress in the
reintegration process and how it can create obstacles when it comes to treating and trying assist
reintegrating service members and their families. Using the foundational knowledge compiled from
years of research in the field of psychology, neurobiology, and biological psychology. Using
research done by other psychologists we will look at a hypothesis created based on the issue and
explain how the hypothesis can be verified and the validity of the research.
Today there are many careers and areas of expertise that can greatly benefit from the foundational
knowledge of biological psychology. The first and most prominent field that comes to mind that
can and does benefit from the knowledge provided by biological psychology is the medical field.
The reason for this is due to the fact that in the medical field one must have a deep understanding of
the communication between the brain and the rest of the body. During surgery if a connection is
severed the repercussions could be egregious, the patient could potentially be paralyzed, and the
medications administered could have a negative effect on not only the body but also the
biochemistry of the brain as well, leading to further complications. Another reason for the

overused by Americans throughout news articles and magazines when a significant event happens.
When referring to September 11th, the crashing of the twin towers, this is a tragic event.
Peck states, I do know life is life and theatre is theatre (735), but we as Americans immediately turn

Age of paradox The nineteenth century was a significant period for Britain because society had
changed her mentality, people started to idolize freedom and hard work as a method for winning
respectability and material success, they believed in democracy, religion, patriotism, progress,
capitalism and the family that completely determined the quality of living. The Victorian Age was
portrayed by fast transformation and improvements in almost every circle from advances in

The main dilemma they all faced and to which they all found various solutions was how to adapt
the historical design to contemporary needs. The most popular Victorian styles were:
Neoclassicism, the Gothic Revival, the High Victorian Gothic, Later Victorian Gothic, the
Architecture of New Industrialism. Despite the fact that there were a wide range of sorts of
Victorian houses they all shared many of the same detailed architectural features such as: bay
windows, dentils, columns, dormers, turrets, mansard roofs and many more. When it comes to
literature, writers such as Dickens, the Bronte sisters and Sir Walter Scott were the ones who
had a big contribution in this century. Dickens wrote in different styles, from comedy to

factory employment, to the scandals in private schools and corruption in government. Just how
Charles Dickens said in A Tale of Two Cities ,,It was the best of times; it was the worst of times

Narrative Essay About Becoming A Family
Becoming a Family It was the first day of high school, a new school, and a new town. The only
class I was looking forward to was band. I knew band was the same no matter where I was. Little
did I know that I was not just joining a band I was joining a family.
The first couple of days I got to know a lot of my classmates, started making friends, and really
got to know my director. Most of the kids had him since they were in grade school, so I was out
of the loop with current events in his life. After the first month or so I found out that his wife had
had cancer and she had just been diagnosed with it again. So just as every high school band, the first
semester was marching band. With marching band, you have competitions. It was not long before
we were all on board helping him through this rough time. At the first competition we all had
pinned white cancer ribbons on our uniforms before we get on the field. I remember looking at
him when he saw us and just him tearing up and telling us how much he loved us. So, we
decided on red hearts to be sown on the uniforms permanently. I also remember before a home
football game we had a prayer circle for them because it had gotten worse, and little did we know
one of the moms had taken a video of us and sent it to him. After that he knew that he could lean on
all of us to help him.
A couple months after marching band and Christmas was over, she passed away. It was hard for all
of us because we all loved and cared about him, and we

Comparing Two Works Of Art That Featured The God Dionysos
I chose to compare and contrast two works of art that featured the god Dionysos. Dionysos was a
god of celebration and wine, promoting both the intoxicating power of wine and its social benefits
for bringing people together. He was an advocate of peace and a promoter of peaceful civilization.
Both The Hope Dionysos and the Triumph of Dionysos and the Seasons Sarcophagus represent why
Dionysos was such an important and celebrated figurein mythology, which is why I chose to
analyze two works of art that centered on him. My first impression of each piece was of
Dionysos as a peaceful, benevolent and joyful figure. I was struck by the calm peacefulness he
embodied in The Hope Dionysos and the happiness he shared on the Triumph of Dionysos and the
Seasons Sarcophagus. Though there are many elements to compare and contrast, my analysis will
show that both pieces are tributes and representations of Dionysos meaning and purpose in Roman
art. The Hope Dionysos, displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Greek and Roman Art
gallery, depicts Dionysos standing and leaning with one arm on a smaller female figure that is
believed to Spes, the personification of hope. He is shown without his usual attributes of a drinking
cup or a pinecone topped staff, and both the handat his side and the hand resting on Spes and
reaching out towards the viewer are empty. Spes, however, holds what appears to be a lotus flower
in her hand. This image, with the personification of hope, could have

Theme Of Pygmalion
This play is one which has been adapted many times since its first performance in Vienna in 1913.
From a musical version, to countless interpretations of the plot in movies and television shows, the
story is one which is almost universally recognizable, if not necessarily in its original context. The
aim of this production will be to stay true to the original play, while transferring it into a modern
setting. This will highlight the many ways in which it is still thoroughly relevant to modern
audiences, particularly in reference to the implicit points made about the treatment of women, and
those who are on the lower levels of society.
While the play itself may seem somewhat dated, seeming to be rooted in social hierarchies which
are obsolete, specifically in Ireland, the themes it deals with are as relevant today as they were
when Shaw first wrote them in 1913. From the treatment of those who are vulnerable in a society, to
the nature of identity itself, Pygmalion gives an excellent template to discuss and expand on these

Individuals are more than just the way they speak, act, interact or think, but rather an amalgamation
of all of those together. In Pygmalion Higgins endeavours to transform Eliza into what he
considers to be the diametric opposite to where she starts out, but he does so by simply
attempting to teach her how to speak properly (Shaw, p.26). In doing this, Higgins may change
Eliza s linguistic and even physical selves (...), but Eliza herself changes her psychological and
philosophical selves, largely through the auspices of her sociological self interacting with others
such as Mrs. Higgins and Colonel Pickering (Kennell, p.76). By showing the distinction between

Political Influence On Julius Caesar
As humans we tend to take different sides or have particular opinions about certain events in our
lives; nothing seems to have changed as this was a common occurrence in one of the most
remarkable civilisations in the world, Ancient Rome, and its political influence is still felt today.
The drastic change from the Roman Republic to the one man empire was a decision made by
Julius Caesar when others did not have the power to challenge him. Julius Caesar believed in a one
man Government, he liked change and used his own power to make sure that change happened;

As the weapons and strategies for fighting changed in the late 20th century, in any case, the Pentagon started to soon understand that whether you were female or male; it mattered less on the combat zone. Now going back in time to the Revolutionary, Civil and Mexican Wars. A small number of women were involved in combat. However they had to disguise themselves as men and enlist under aliases; a false or assumed identity. One of these women was Deborah Samson Gannett. She was from Plymouth, Massachusetts and was one of the first American woman soldiers. In the year 1782, she enlisted under Robert Shurtleff Samson who was her brother who had passed away. For seventeen months, Samson served in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. She was injured twice. Seeing as how the Civil War was known as the first modern war, it is appropriate to say that much new technological advancement was made. Behind every piece of new technology or idea, there is a person or team that dedicated their time to the development. When it comes to the Civil Waraeronautics and much other future advancement, Thaddeus S. C. Lowe is the man behind it. Lowe was an integral part in the success of the aeronautics division of the war and paved the way for the world s future success in many other fields. Thaddeus Lowe s work was greatly under appreciated. He and other aeronauts proved time and time again just how useful balloons could be, but, the work of Wise, Lowe, Steiner, and other aeronauts as observers should have stirred up enthusiasm for balloons as military weapons, but neither the Army nor the American public properly appreciated the potential of aeronautics (Scamehorn 9). This never stopped Lowe from pursuing his dream. He fought to make ends meet by taking odd jobs so he could finance his education in physics and other subjects that would eventually set him up for his success in aeronautics. Through his persistent work, at thirty years of age, Thaddeus Lowe had organized an aeronautics corps for the Union Army something that only a handful of people wanted to see happen at the time (Military Intelligence Corps Hall of Fame). In education, on going professional development is a vital step to ensure that teachers are equipped with best practices to prepare students for the future. According to Billingsley (2005), Professional development goals needs to emerge from the needs of needs of teachers (p. 96). As such, the use of surveys and interests polls is encouraged to determine the needs of teachers. After identifying staff needs, it is crucial for a leader to plan and execute trainings aligned with Adult Learning Theory to increase engagement, generalization and skill application. Amnesia is likely to be caused by excessive norepinephrine (NE) or vasopressin release at the time of the trauma. Memories of the trauma can also be triggered by physiological arousal. They tend to relive the past and misinterpret innocuous stimuli as potential threats. They are also more sensitive to sounds. Neutralizing stimuli in the environment to attend to relevant tasks is very difficult. Instead they tend to shut down to compensate. This leads to decreased involvement in ordinary, everyday life (Van der Kolk, B., McFarlane, A., Weisaeth, L., 1996). • 8. Chemistry Practical on Rate of Reaction Aim: The rate at which a reaction occurs, or takes place, is affected by various factors, such as the temperature at which the experiment is conducted in, the pressure which is given, the surface area which is exposed, use of catalysts, and the concentration. In this investigation, I would be investigating the affect of surface area, or particle size, in the rate at which a reaction occurs. Background Information: The more finely divided the solid is, the faster the reaction happens. A powdered solid will normally produce a faster reaction than if the same mass is present as a single lump. The powdered solid has a greater surface area than the single lump. Note: Why normally? This factor will be manipulated by keeping the mass of both the stripe/ribbon and the powder constant. As if the mass is different of the stripe/ribbon and the powder, the results won t be accurate. Dependent Variable: The dependent variable in this investigation will be the time required for the reaction between the liquid and the stripe/ribbon and the powder to be completed. Because, the investigation is based on the affect of surface area in the rate at which reaction occurs. Constant Variable: The constant variable in this investigation will be the temperature, pressure, concentration, catalyst, and the amount of the reactants used. This is because, these are some of the other factors, which affect the rate at which a reaction occurs. A rise in temperature will result in an increased rate of reaction and vice versa. This is because the energy in the particles, which will react, will have higher energy resulting in a higher frequency of effective collisions to take place. An increase in concentration and pressure will also increase the rate of reaction. This is because, the reacting particles become more crowded resulting in an increased chance of particles colliding. A catalyst is a substance that speeds up a reaction without itself being used up. The amount of both the reactants will also be kept constant by using the same mass of the ribbon/stripe for ... He went through various struggles such as being stranded in the ocean, being tortured in a death camp, starvation; he even used his last bit of strength to save his friends. Louis Zamperini was a man of many traits but the three that stick out to me are having forgiveness, being a leader, and being an inspiration to many. The definition of forgive is to stop feeling angry or resentful toward (someone) for an offense, flaw, or mistake. Persuasive Essay On Online Bullying In today s progressive world, I believe it is better to consider online bullying in an immersed online ethnographic research method, in order to fully understand how bullying is enacted in an online world. It s also important to take this approach in order to understand what s misunderstood about online bullying as a whole. Boyd (2010) states that if we are to know if online platforms act as a tool for teenagers to perpetuate violence in the real world , we must look at what they are doing online. Boyd finds that bullying does not dramatically go up or down when social media is introduced (Boyd 2015, 152). Digital spaces that are important in the lives of youth need to be understand both locally, and in global contexts. Mallan, Ashford and Singh s (2010) article discusses iscapes as a way for todays youth to hang out or communicate. The authors seek to answer the question, how do interactions across iscapes affect the identity work carried out by today s youth. ( Mallan et al. 2010, 265). Decheneaut et al. (2010) looks at an immersive ethnography in several online digital worlds. Bonilla and Rosa state boldly that by using social media as their platform, subscribers can demand public attention, and garner the attention from anthropologists by using hashtags (Bonilla et al. 2015, 5). By the end of the 19th century, the foundation was laid for modern day intelligence testing (Wicket, 1998). In 1905, the French psychologist Alfred Binet published the first modern intelligence test to identify students who needed special help in coping with the school curriculum (Neiser, et al. 1996). Shortly thereafter in 1908 and 1911, Alfred Binet and Theodore Simon published revisions of the Binet intelligence test (Wicket). The mental age concept was adopted to express the results in adequate units. The concept is based on an individual s performance in comparison to the average performance of individuals in a specific chronological age group (Kaplin, Saccuzzo). A further refinement of the Stanford Binet scale and translation (for American culture) was published in 1916 by Lewis M. The Enlightenment was an era when many classical ideas about culture, governance, and the laws of nature were challenged by brilliant philosophical minds. The whole intellectual landscape was changing and a new emphasis on reason was placed, and it was during this time that women became more involved in public life through travel, conversation, reading and writing. He died of a plague while in the middle of yet another war to defend the territory of Rome. Aurelius was succeeded by his son, Commodus, who was the polar opposite of his father. Commodus was a corrupt and evil ruler. Apparently, his father was never aware of this fact, for Commodus fooled him into believing they were of the same mind when it came to ruling. Conscription was introduced in April 1939, women that were unmarried and between the ages of 19 30 were conscripted and sent to factories to work on production of military goods. Single men between 20 and 23 were required to serve in one of the armed forces. About 3.2 million British men were conscripted for the Second World War. The United States also introduced conscription in 1940 when there was high unemployment and by 1943, there was a high shortage of manpower[10] Canada was a great contributor of soldiers and resources among the small allied powers of the war. About 10% of its population were either conscripted or worked for the military during World War II.[11] The economic effect of conscription was serious because it meant a great reduction in the number of taxpayers whilst an increase in government spending to train, maintain and pay military. Coding Testing The final design is converted into a software platform which is then tested for bugs and errors as well as to ensure that the required functionality is in place. There will also be an element of user acceptance testing to determine the acceptability of the solution. Implementation Following final approval, the software is deployed into the production environment. • 28. Ian Mcewan s Enduring Love In Enduring Love, by Ian McEwan, madness brings the characters together. It is what drives relationships, starts conflicts, and maintains love, or so some think. In the case of Joe and Jed, madness envelops them. Throughout the story, madness and irrationality play an important role in maintaining the relationships of Joe and Jed and of Joe and Clarissa. In the case of Joe and Clarissa, irrationality is what both drives them apart and keeps them together. Initially, Joe starts out as a fairly rational person. His profession is writing about science and using facts to back up his logic. • 29. Development Of A Simulation Management System Summary The main contribution of the proposed research is the development of a Simulation Management System. Simulation models are vital to modern scientific research. These models tend to be extremely complex, often with many sources of uncertainties and numerous factors. To understand the impact of these factors and their interactions, on the simulation model results, requires effective design of experiments. DoE allows construction of well defined procedures for ordering experiment outcomes and offers a framework that can be used to replicate and validate those outcomes. In this study, we propose an approach that integrates concepts of model driven engineering, intelligent agent technology, and variability modeling to support the management of the lifecycle of a simulation experiment. The Model Driven Engineering (MDE) methodology provides a framework and strategy to move from the platform independent experiment domain space to the technical space involving platform specific executable simulation experiment scripts. Experiment design modeling is introduced for configurable experiment synthesis and execution. Feature oriented variability modeling is used to design a family of experiments by allowing explicit specification of variability in the configuration of experiments Adaptation is needed for continuous management of stochastic simulation experiments. In simulation lifecycle management systems, adaptation is proposed for dynamic experiment model updating. Our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are minor characters in Shakespeare s Hamlet. Stoppard takes Rosencrantz and Guildenstern out of the Hamlet reality and creates a new world for them, a world where they are lead characters. However, in Rosencrantz and Guildensterns new reality, limitations and constraints arise. Many of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern s adventures and actions have already been written by Shakespeare which only gives Stoppard so much to incorporate for himself. Stoppard actually does an exceptional job in giving Rosencrantz and Guildenstern s a plot for themselves, he does this through the manner of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern s incomprehensibility of the world and their difficulty in making meaningful decisions. To an extent, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern did have the ability to make their own choices and to an extent, they didn t. In this essay I will discuss just how much Rosencrantz and Guildenstern s capability for action, existential choice and death were already written before Stoppard even picked up a pen. The majority of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern s narrative has already been written by Shakespeare. The characters try to break free of this narrative by the way they frequently discuss fate, chance and the difference between reality and acting. In the United States, these groups are active in most metropolitan areas that have a large Chinese population, and typically keep their activities limited to those areas. Within these areas they are often responsible for heroin and methamphetamine trafficking, human trafficking and intimidation/protection practices. While documented triad activity in the United Statesreached a peak in the 1990s, it is not clear if activity has truly been curbed or if the nature of privacy within the Chinese subculture is preventing the threat from being properly documented. Although Triads are active within the United States, their involvement in allied states poses an additional threat to U.S. security and its interests. Background: The history of Chinese Triads within the United States is closely linked with the history of Chinese and Hong Kong based triads. • 40. Comparing Two Works Of Art That Featured The God Dionysos I chose to compare and contrast two works of art that featured the god Dionysos. Dionysos was a god of celebration and wine, promoting both the intoxicating power of wine and its social benefits for bringing people together. He was an advocate of peace and a promoter of peaceful civilization. Both The Hope Dionysos and the Triumph of Dionysos and the Seasons Sarcophagus represent why Dionysos was such an important and celebrated figurein mythology, which is why I chose to analyze two works of art that centered on him. My first impression of each piece was of Dionysos as a peaceful, benevolent and joyful figure. I was struck by the calm peacefulness he embodied in The Hope Dionysos and the happiness he shared on the Triumph of Dionysos and the Seasons Sarcophagus. Though there are many elements to compare and contrast, my analysis will show that both pieces are tributes and representations of Dionysos meaning and purpose in Roman art. The Hope Dionysos, displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Greek and Roman Art gallery, depicts Dionysos standing and leaning with one arm on a smaller female figure that is believed to Spes, the personification of hope. He is shown without his usual attributes of a drinking cup or a pinecone topped staff, and both the handat his side and the hand resting on Spes and reaching out towards the viewer are empty. From a musical version, to countless interpretations of the plot in movies and television shows, the story is one which is almost universally recognizable, if not necessarily in its original context. The aim of this production will be to stay true to the original play, while transferring it into a modern setting. This will highlight the many ways in which it is still thoroughly relevant to modern audiences, particularly in reference to the implicit points made about the treatment of women, and those who are on the lower levels of society. While the play itself may seem somewhat dated, seeming to be rooted in social hierarchies which are obsolete, specifically in Ireland, the themes it deals with are as relevant today as they were when Shaw first wrote them in 1913.
