How Does Race Influence The Politics Of The 1960s
Jacob Garbison Professor Sean Trundle History 355 4 December 2014 Dog Whistle Politics of the
1960s On July 2, after signing the 1964 Civil Rights Act, President Lyndon B. Johnson reportedly said
to his staff, I think we just gave the South to the Republicans for your lifetime and mine. (Perlstein
365) He was wrong. Although he never lived to see it, Jimmy Carter won a Democratic South in 1976
but it was for the last time. Nonetheless, the party which had dominated the South for almost a century
had put it up for grabs with the stroke of a pen. The impact of racism on presidential politics during
the 60s is difficult to overstate. Race and racially coded language in particular played a profound role
in the GOPs success at winning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here, Wallace did something new. Gone were the overt references to white supremacy, segregation, or
even race. Instead, he positioned himself as a defender of the constitution against tyrannical
government overreach: I stand here today, as Governor of this sovereign State, and refuse to willingly
submit to illegal usurpation of power by the Central Government. [1] Wallace went on, giving voice to
the politics of the South in language that was palpable, even agreeable, to the North. The dramatic
Stand in the Door was all for show of course. Wallace stood aside, allowing three black students to
register for classes later that day, but the effects of the speech would have wide repercussions. Wallace
received nearly 100,000 telegrams in response to his speech from all across the country, an almost
unheard of number for a lowly Southern governor. More shocking still was that nearly all of them,
about 95%, were praising his bravery. (Lopez, 15) They all hate black people, all of them. Wallace
reportedly exclaimed, They re all afraid, all of them Great God! That s it! They re all Southern. The
whole US is Southern! (Lopez, 15) Wallace had discovered the dog whistle, a way to communicate
racial animosity without using explicit racism. This is a distinctly modern expression of racism which,
as Ian Haney Lopez says, [stimulates] the intended audience without overtly

Universal Design For Learning Essay
I chose to read an article about Universal Design for Learning. This was a learning theory that I had
not heard about before. This theory covers a wide range of learning styles for children along with
multiple strategies. The Universal Design for Learning Theory ensures that students are provided with
a variety of engaging strategies in order to best meet each student s individual needs.
A large component of Universal Design for Learning is text comprehension. This theory understands
that comprehension doesn t just come after reading a selection of text, but takes time and will grow
after students develop more maturity, socialize with others and gain more schema. Students are
encouraged to make connections through a wide range of methods.
In order to increase their text to text connections, students are encouraged to bring in books from
home that align with what they are learning, create compare/contrast diagrams, debate over two
similar books and compare books in literature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the past, I have been a little confused with how to best teach my students comprehension. This
article has opened a window toward personal professional understanding in the area of teaching
reading comprehension. While reading this article I was surprised to find such a variety of ways to
make each type of connection. Many of which are fairly easy and can be done in a timely manner. I
will make it a professional goal to provide my students with more of these opportunities to connect
with what we are learning. If I am able to successfully integrate some of these activities in my
classroom, I know my students will greatly benefit from the exposure. They will become more
independent and informed worldly thinkers. All I have to do is assist each child in overcoming their
barriers, and they can all become better readers, thinkers, writers, listeners and

The Importance Of Extracurricular Activities And Personal...
Try to remember your first day at school. Generally, teachers cannot even remember the name of any
one of their students. Now, how exactly are they supposed to remember all of their 120 students
personal lives? Contrary to that belief, most students believe that teachers should account for their
extracurricular activities and personal lives. But, not only is that not possible, it is not plausible.
Obviously, for students, keeping up with their work and personal lives is a hard task to manage, but
developing their time management skills is something each student will need to learn to do as they
continue their studies in college. Teachers should not have to plan their curriculum around student
responsibilities due to the numerous types of jobs and extracurricular activities students take part in.
According to Dunbar s Number, we as people can only remember at most 150 names, of course, that
number is the maximum. On average, according to 21 percent of the faculty members of West
Warwick Public Schools, the average numbers of students per class would be 120 to 125 students per
year. Therefore, it makes sense teachers would struggle at remembering even 125 names, let alone
their complex personal lives. Teachers, along with their students names, would have to remember their
students personal lives and then go on to create a curriculum based around those numerous activities.
Obviously, most teachers would find that unreasonable. Therefore, it is more than clear teachers

Trauma In Maus
Art Speigelman s Maus is a graphic novel that clearly displays the appalling treatment of the Jews
during the Holocaust. Throughout the novel it becomes clear that the text is not just about
experiencing the Holocaust but surviving it s impact. It can be easily seen that the effects of the war
are long lasting and Vladek was undeniably traumatised by the event. Despite physically surviving the
war, in some ways Vladek did not survive. The Holocaust also impacted Art, even though he did not
directly experience it, and Vladek s relationship with Mala. Despite physically surviving the war,
Vladek did not escape the emotional trauma that accompanied his survival. Vladek s continuing
trauma is clearly highlighted in many ways. Due to the horrific

Isolationism Pearl Harbor
Pearl Harbor is a naval base on the island Oahu, Hawaii, it is also a major site of the U.S navy. A
surprise attack happened by a fleet of around 1200 Japanese borne fighter planes on a Sunday morning
on December 7, 1941, it imposed heavy damage to the harbor and that brought the U.S into World War
II. The reason the attack on Pearl Harbor started was because the U.S put sanctions on Japan and that
cut off the majority of their oil supply because Japan was a part of the axis forces; Germany Italy.
Before the Pearl Harbor attack the United States was against getting into the war it had a policy called
isolationism. One has to remember that just 20 years prior the United States was involved in World
War I with many of the citizens not wanting

Welfare Reform Pros And Cons
The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (PRWORA) was one
of the biggest legislation signed by Bill Clinton that focused on welfare. The main goals of this law
were to lessen the dependency on federal government welfare while increasing employment and
reducing poverty.
The program established a 5 year lifetime time limit for welfare benefits. Because the welfare program
was focused on increasing employment while decreasing poverty, Temporary Assistance for Needy
Families, TANF, was initiated. This program is a block grant that provides each state with a fixed
amount of money as long as the state meets certain conditions. PWRWORA restriction eligibility for

According to statistics, employment in never married mothers increased nearly 50%, single mothers
who HS dropouts increased by 2/3, young single mothers nearly doubled (Karger et al., 2007). But the
problem is, are these jobs sufficient enough to get these people out of poverty? There are issues with
employment of individuals. These issues include a lack of work experience and education as well as
poor health (Urban Institute, 2014). Needing to work also impacts parent(s) and their duties for their
children because of long hours, stressful commutes, ad stressful working conditions. These types of
stress lead kids to take on the responsibilities of their parents to take care of their younger siblings
(Boscia, 2010). Third, those who support welfare reform say that this legislation successfully
decreased poverty. Statistics do show that between 1994 2004, overall poverty rate dropped from
14.5% to 12.7% and child poverty dropped from 21.8% to 17.8% (Karger, 2007, p.

Monocular Deprivation
In the early postnatal life, there are restricted time windows within which the essential role of
experience is mainly evident. These time windows are called critical periods.54In critical periods
brain circuits display a high sensitivity to acquire informative and adaptive signals from the exterior
environment. Visual deprivation or ocular abnormalities in early life causes disruption of proper
environmental signals that can result in long tremor even permanent brain diseases,55one of them is
Amblyopia.56
The deficits can be avoided if deprivation begins postnatal, but there are different sensitive periods for
different visual capabilities: 3 months for scotopic sensitivity, 6 months for photopic sensitivity, 18 24
months for spatial contrast sensitivity, and after 2 years for binocular vision. These findings found that
there is not just one visual sensitive period but rather that there are different sensitive periods during
which different characteristics of vision can bedamaged.43The critical period for monocular
deprivation is larger than for visual motion direction deprivation.57 ... Show more content on

My First Clinical Shift As An Emt Student
Mangled Hearts Clipboard and stethoscope in hand, I walked toward the double doors that flashed
emergency in bright red letters above. It was my first clinical shift as an EMT student, and first day
jitters fluttered around in my stomach. I had no idea what lay ahead of me. However, I was not
expecting to witness the fragility of life. About a half an hour into my shift the rapid response alarm
blared through the emergency room. I turned to my preceptor and quizzically asked what this meant. A
rapid response is a patient who is in need of immediate medical care and intervention. As an EMT
who is part of the rapid response team you will be expected to assist with vitals and chest
compressions. Let s head toward the recess room, and I ll explain more there. Eventually we reached
the recess room, and the rapid response team was already there preparing for the arrival of the patient.
A nurse was on the phone with the firefighters that were bringing the patient in. Seconds later she
announced It s a STEMI . Then fright ran through my veins. A STEMI is medical jargon for a segment
elevation on an EKG. In other words, the patient s coronary artery is completely occluded. The patient
is suffering from a heart attack. Prior to this, I had never seen someone who was having a heart attack.
However, the thing that terrified me the most was that I knew I would be expected to perform chest
compressions. I had only ever performed chest compressions on a dummy, and did not know If I

Relational Model Of Church Planting
If writing about churches starting churches were a chemistry experiment, relational models of church
planting would be the catalyst that causes the experiment to boil over.
Relational models focus on sending Christians into their communities to gather and disciple people
who are not involved in churches. If enough people are gathered, new congregations may form. While
the general idea may sound intriguing, the specific models inspire frustration and fear for numerous
leaders of established churches.
Pastors who are frustrated their churches, where the Gospel is preached and fellowship shared each
week, are somehow not considered missional communities.

Get X senior pastors are not very interested in church planting strategy. They are very interested in
organic groups and networks of relationships. So relational models are often as close as they will get
to intentionally starting new churches.
$100,000 Question
For years I ve asked church planters variations of the same question: If you were starting a new church
today, would you rather have a $100,000 donation or 10 committed leaders? The answer is
overwhelmingly the leaders.
So the challenge for churches is how to pull together seven to 10 leaders with a shared passion for
connecting people to Jesus in the same community. Once again the relational models for starting new
churches meet the need.
Do the Math
Research shows new churches are much more likely to survive if they are self supporting within three
years of forming. One key to self sustainability is regularly gathering 150 in

Analysis of Disney Films Essay examples
Analysis of Disney Films Before starting this essay, I researched several different Disney Films; Snow
White, Aladdin, Hercules, Mulan, 101 Dalmatians and The Lion King the last two of which I m going
to analyse in more detail. The term representation means the act of communicating by using symbols
to stand for things, throughout the essay I intend to see how Disney represents their binary opposites.
Binary opposites are opposites, like good and bad. Levi Strauss believed that all narratives are made
up of opposites he called these opposites binary opposites. 101 Dalmatians ============== The

together, they aren t really friends, Cruella uses them to do her work. Roger, Anita, Pongo and Perdy

Analysis Of The Book Jack The Ripper
The Complete Jack the Ripper By: Donald Rumblelow
Publisher: New York Graphic Society, Year: 1975, Pages: 217
This book is about the history of Jack the Ripper, it s about his life and how he killed. It also talks
about his life in the Whitechapel district was.
This book is about how he killed and what Jack the Ripper did, it tells about his life and what
happened (This book is out dated because we have discovered more since 1975). It also shows lots of
pictures, they weren t very good pictures but they were there. The book shows most things he did. He
killed at least 5 prostitutes and took apart their bodies. This terrorized the Whitechapel district, he did
this from August 7th to September 10th in 1888. It s a mystery on how he died according to the book,
but keep in mind the book is outdated.
It s a decent book but I didn t find it very interesting, it started out very slow but picked up during the
middle of it. I also didn t understand as much as I wanted too. I could understand how people like the
book though because of what it is. Jack the Ripper and the mystery behind him makes him interesting
just not my thing. Its successful because it was one of the best written books about him of this time,
and could be used to study on him. It s also successful because of this reason, a lot of people have
probably done a book report or a report in general on him and gained interest for him.
The Complete Jack the Ripper is about a guy who killed five prostitutes and

Regulating Blood Pressure
Blood pressure is defined as the pressure of blood as it s applied to the walls of blood vessels when the
heart contracts. Blood pressure is important to homeostasis in the body because it helps maintain
temperature and proper delivery of nutrients to the body. The kidneys depend on blood pressure for
helping it filter blood and they also control one of the mechanisms for regulating blood pressure called
long term blood pressure control. When the blood pressure is low, the kidneys release
substance/enzyme called renin. Renin causes the production of a chemical known as angiotensin 2
through this cascade of reactions. Then, Angiotensin 2 causes constriction of blood vessels which
means the lessening of the diameter in the blood vessels. When blood vessels are constricted the blood
pressure rises. Another gland also helps out. This is called the adrenal gland. In this process, the
adrenal cortex on the outside of the adrenal gland releases a substance called aldosterone in the
presence of angiotensin 2. This substance increases sodium reabsorption in the body. This also
increases water reabsorption. In addition, the reabsorbed water increases the blood volume which also

the long term Mechanism. Furthermore, this will also be detected by the short term

Summary Of Everybody Needs A Rock
The children s book, Everybody Needs A Rock, was written by Byrd Baylor and illustrated by Peter
Parnall, originally published in 1974. Baylor s simple and whimsical writing emphasizes the curiosity
that children have for nature. The illustrations are surprisingly minimalist, a departure from most
children s book drawings. The book has numerous story elements that appeal to children.
The themes and illustrations of the book are a stark contrast from ordinary children s books. Unlike
the vibrant color schemes that one can normally find in books from the same genre, Parnall uses a
minimalist style to hint at the concept of centration. His drawings heavily rely on negative space to
draw attention to the unnamed protagonist of the story, a child who has one special goal: finding ...

Baylor treats the rock as an entity, I m sorry for kids who don t have a rock for a friend (Parnall), by
comparing it to people without one. He implies that not having a rock is almost like missing out on
finding friendship. While the rocks in the story aren t personified, one can surmise that searching for
them is like looking for a friend: it takes time and patience. The story favors individualism over family
ties, When you are looking at rocks don t let mothers or fathers or sisters or brothers or even best
friends talk to you, implying a child s egocentrism. Throughout the book, Baylor reminds the audience
that only they can know which is the right rock for them. The writing style is straightforward,
formatted in a way that s reminiscent of Wallace Steven s Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird.
Instead of a blackbird, Baylor presents ten rules that a child should follow when searching for a rock.
His frequent use of hyperbole, A rock as big as a horse is MUCH too big, gives room for the child to
use their imagination. Along with hyperbole, Baylor uses parentheticals to

The Causes And Consequences Of The Crusades
The Crusades were indeed about power and politics, in terms of its motivations and consequences.
Political motivations were significant in shaping the Crusades, as evident from the rivalry for power
between the Christians and the Muslims, as well as internally within the Christian world, and the
launching of the Crusades by Pope Urban II who harbored political interests in establishing his
authority in the Christian world. However, it is wrong to say that the Crusades had nothing to do with
religion because whilst the political and power motivations to prevent the Muslims from gaining any
more Christian territory, and to fuel European expansionism was present, the key driving force in most
parties was religious feeling. Motivations for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mark Strand s Use Of Praise In Poetry
In the poem From a Litany by Mark Strand, the world praise is used quite a bit. On the other hand in
Jane Kenyon s Let Evening Come , the word praise is never used but is instead inferred in the poem.
The word praise can actually mean a variety of different things depending on the context; here it is
used to mean admiration. The two poems overlap in the sense that they have a feeling of letting go or
a mellowing out quality that gives the reader a sense of sadness from the author. Both poems depict a
scene of morning to night, or beginning of life to death; thought they have collected after many long
years on earth. Although the similarities are striking in both poems, there are both diverse in there own
way. Both poem expressed admirations for the small things in life. They both mention the sun, sky,
and the ground specifically in their texts. For example in Strand poem he says, ... I praise the sky... I
praise the wind, the rising generations of air... I praise the clocks... All of these things come into play

Vince Lombardi Essay
Vince Lombardi as a Leader
Vince Lombardi once stated, Leaders aren t born, that are made. And they are made just like anything
else, through hard work (Belliotti, 2008, p.8). Lombardi was a very successful National Football
League coach. He defines a true leader in the coaching world through his hard work and dedication to
making each individual player and the team as a whole better through transformational leadership.
According to Peter G. Northouse, a leader is someone that has the ability to inspire and create change
that allows others to follow them. They display confidence, determination, intelligence, integrity and
sociability (2010, p.5 21). These concepts that are relevant in the workplace are also the same in

George Manning and Kent Curtis state The term transformational leadership can be used to describe
the leadership of individuals such as Vince Lombardi. These leaders use optimism, charm,
intelligence, and a myriad of other personal qualities to raise aspirations, and transform individuals
and organizations into new levels of high performance (2003, p.24). I believe the best way to show
Lombardi s leadership style is through the components of transformational leadership.
There are four components of transformational leadership: idealized influence, inspirational
motivation, intellectual stimulation and individualized consideration. Idealized influence describes
leaders that appear as role models for followers (Northouse, 2010, p.177). David Maraniss says that
while Lombardi expected his players to be early for everything and dressed in suits, but that Lombardi
himself would always get there earlier than the players still and was dressed in nothing short of
professional attire (1999, p.217). Lombardi was a great role model and only expected the best from his
team because he gave the team his best. He led by example and embodied all the ideas he taught
others in himself as well.
Lombardi displayed charisma, which is a special gift that certain individual s posses that make others
want to follow their vision. A former player of Lombardi s from the Packers,

How to Tell a True War Story Essays
War can be defined as an active struggle between competing entities. It s truly hard to tell who is right
or wrong during a war. Both sides are fighting for what they believe in and what is true to their heart.
In the end there is always two things promised destruction and death. These two objects can explain
the result in every facet of war from the physical to emotional.
In How to Tell a True War Story O Brien explores the relationship between the events during a war
and the art of telling those events. O Brien doesn t come to a conclusion on what is a true war story.

This is similar to what happened to Krebs in Hemingway s Soldier s Home . Krebs has returned home
to find that it is not that everybody and the world around him has changed, but he was the one that had
changed. He has fought in some of the worst wars there were and he didn t want to come back home.
Krebs dreaded coming back to the states, and would have preferred to stay overseas. Krebs was once
used to a normal life. He went to a Christian school and was a part of a fraternity. His perception on
life had changed drastically after enlisting in the military and fighting in a war. When he returned
home, the girls that he saw on the street were the same as when he was there years ago. His father still
parks his car in the same spot day in and day out. His mother tries to encourage him to get a job, but
he doesn t care. He was so accustomed to the repetition of a soldier s life. He couldn t adjust to the
typical lifestyle that other soldiers made. Somehow you can see the struggle he is going through. After
the physical war, there was a war going on internally. Krebs had lost his emotion and will to care. The
horror he experienced actually seeing first hand life and death situations were incomprehensible to his
parents. There was no way they would be able to identify with him.
It doesn t matter where anyone played a role in a war; the nature of the war itself leaves a tremendous
impact on everyone s life. Just retelling a story

Galileo Galilei was born on February 15, 1556 in Pisa Italy, Tuscany in 1564, the son of Florentine
musician Vincenzio Galilei. Actually, Vincenzio was a revolutionary musician he felt the formal
church music that then dominated the scene had become sterile, and that classic Greek poetry and
myths had a power the church music lacked, that perhaps could be translated into modern music. He
attempted some of this, and his work began the development that culminated in Italian opera. His
mother Giulia Ammannati, she was the daughter of lumber merchant, Cosimo . Galileo was the first of
six children. Galileo s family belonged to the nobility but was not rich, in the early 1570 s, he and his
family moved to Florence. Galileo was a very smart at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While teaching there, he frequently visited a place called the Arsenal, where Venetian ships were
docked and loaded. Galileo had always been interested in mechanical devices. Naturally, during his
visits to the Arsenal, he became fascinated by nautical technologies, such as the sector and
shipbuilding. In 1593, he was presented with the problem involving the placement of oars in galleys.
He treated the oar as a lever and correctly made the water the fulcrum. A year later, he patented a
model for a pump. His pump was a device that raised water by using only one horse. Soon after he
decided to to go back the University of Pisa and become a professor there and thought as a lecturer, he
also published a paper on the center of gravity. He even had three kids with a woman named Marina
Gamba, a woman Galileo met on one of his many adventures to Venice, one boy and two girls. He
named Vincenzio, and the two girls named Virginia, and Livia. Galileo invented the first telescope in
1609, with the telescope, Galileo found out that the church s idea of the universe being geocentric or
called heliocentric, which means that the universe revolves around the earth. So Galileo decided to go
to the church and tell them that they were wrong. The church was not anti scientific but they just did
not believe Galileo because at that time most of the scientific discoveries

The Five Principles Of Civilization
The five principles of civilization allow you to get a better understanding of history. Not only does it
break down the material for you to learn easier, but it allows you to receive the information for where
you can remember the contents better. Principle one is Geography is Destiny, geography is what
allowed civilizations to settle down, which led to the creation of agriculture, trade, war, politics, new
inventions, etc., while it also helped them get to where we are today by striving to create a destiny for
ourselves. Principle two is Agriculture Creates Civilization, civilization would die off if they couldn t
produce food so agriculture allowed civilizations to grow into cities. Depending on the geography of
where the civilization was located, depended on what they could grow. So they had to adapt to their
surroundings to figure out what they could grow. Principle three, Clashes of Culture Drive Innovation,
shows how civilizations would fight each other for different resources (land, food, water) which led
civilians to new ideas being invented like new weapons and strategies so they could defeat their
enemy. War led to civilizations spreading and teaching their ways with other civilizations by them
seeing their ideas so they had to do better (encouraged new ideas). Principle four, Trade Is the
Lifeblood of Civilizations, trade made it possible for different cultures/civilizations to trade their
goods and ideas. This allowed them to see other religions, agriculture,

Characterization And Internal Characterism In Kurt...
The world isn t perfect, true but it shouldn t have to be, we are humans and we make mistakes.
Sometimes we wish everything could be perfect, yet that may end up making things worse. We
shouldn t try to be perfect like Dr. Hitz thinks it should be. We should just be thankful for what we
have now. In 2BRO2B, Kurt Vonnegut uses characterization and internal conflict to stress the idea
sometimes things aren t as perfect as they seem. Kurt Vonnegut uses Characterization to develop the
fact that things aren t as perfect as they seem. He does this by mentioning different points of views for
different characters. He or she is going to live on a happy, roomy, clean, rich planet, thanks to
population control. Dr. Hitz says how good of a life Wehling s child is going to live due to population
control, this shows how he views population control. Dr. Hitz believes that having set up the very first
gas chamber for population control is an accomplishment. Leora Duncan admires Dr. Hitz and that s
why she s beyond thankful to stand next to him in the portrait being painted of the happy garden of
life. This shows how some people feel about Dr. Hitz and honor him for making the first gas chamber.
Wehling, on the other hand, thinks it s wrong when he has to pick which of his three children he wants
to live because he only has one volunteer to be executed in the gas chamber. All I have to do is pick
out which one of the triplets is going to live, then deliver my maternal grandfather to

Boston Massacre Dbq Essay
After the French and Indian War, Britain did numerous things to provoke the colonists to revolt
against the tyrant king, King George III. The British taxed unfairly and enforced ridiculous laws on
the colonists. the colonists rebelled due to anger and disgust toward Britain, and through pride and
patriotism toward their future country, they fought for independence. King George III was a cruel and
unfair man. He treated the colonists wrongly and ungraciously. In May of 1765, King George passed
the Stamp Act. A law that taxed stamps, an everyday essential item in this time. The colonists believed
that the Stamp Act was unlawful, and they did not tolerate it. We have no representatives in the British

A boycott by the colonists against British goods due to the tax on tea. This took place in the British
Harbor in December of 1773, when the colonists took tea from an incoming supply and dumped it
overboard. (Document 4). This angered Britain, which prompted them to punish the colonists. Britain
stopped exports to the colonies until all the tea was paid for by the colonists. It wasn t just the
Intolerable Acts that influenced the colonists. One main event was the Boston Massacre. 11 unarmed
colonists were shot and 5 were killed by British Soldiers during a protest. (Document 6). The patriots
wanted justice for the soldiers who were responsible for shooting. The soldiers were put on trial by
request of the colonists. As part of the Intolerable Acts, when soldiers were accused of a crime, they
were sent back to Britain instead of being put on trial where the crime was committed (Document 5).
Colonists felt that by doing this, parliament was too biased and the soldiers wouldn t be punished or
prosecuted. The colonists wanted the soldiers to go on trial in Massachusetts so there was justice given
to criminals. While the soldiers were in the colonies, Britain forced colonists to house and care for
soldiers. This was called the Quartering Act. Colonists did not agree with this (Document

Orientalism Is Defined As A Way Of Viewing Eastern Cultures
Orientalism is defined as a way of viewing Eastern cultures in contrast to European and more Western
cultures. Orientalism often leads to a distorted view of these cultures, often depicting the people as
overly exotic, mysterious, or amoral. Such is the case with Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra. This
play was written during a time when Shakespeare was turning his attention away from claustrophobic
city life and focusing more on the world. He moves the setting of his play from Europe to Egypt, more
specifically Alexandria, the city in which Cleopatra resides. While other locations are used in the play,
the focus seems to be on Egypt and the culture there.
Just like the Europeans of Shakespeare s time, the Romans in the play viewed Cleopatra and the race
of people she represented as mysterious and were curious about them, yet were wary at the same time.
There was a combination of both xenophobia and xenophilia among the people of Europe, and these
mixed emotions are detailed in the contrast between the Roman s view of Cleopatra and the way she
actually behaves during the play. There is a difference between the Egyptian culture in the minds of
the Romans within the play and the culture that is actually depicted in the play, but there is a clear
influence of the European views of the Egyptian lifestyle in Shakespeare s work. Despite this
influence however, Cleopatra proves the stereotypes wrong by being more Roman than Mark Antony.
The Romans put a strong emphasis on

Examples Of Masculinity In I Got You
The difference in I Got You is that unlike your typical love stories, one partner isn t there just to save
the other, but Benjamin helps Jake save himself. He believed in Jake and helped him accomplish
something for himself, he gave him strength and wasn t there just so Jake could coward out and
depend on him. Benjamin helped Jake so that he could survive on his on. In many love stories this isn
t so true. The prince always saves the princess and all she learn is there will be a prince to rescue her
from her problems. For anyone who reads I Got You, they will clearly see that even though the cliché
theme of love conquers all is in the story, they will also see the themes of learning to be true to
yourself, stand up for yourself, and stand up for what you believe in, even when no one else will.
Representations of Masculinity
Being Masculine is something that most of us, even women are very familiar with. When we think of
masculinity we think of toxic masculinity or being hyper aggressive, non emotional, hypersexual, and
violent. For society, that is what masculinity is, toxic. In Jamie Lake s I Got You, there were at least
three different representations of masculinity. I believe that Jamie Lake gave ... Show more content on

to be the dominator and Jake loved to be dominated. Jake had to question once, why Benjamin put his

Lymphatic Cancer
The lymphatic system helps to protect us from infection and disease. It s part of the body s immune
system. Lymph fluid passes through lymph nodes which are connected by a network of lymph vessels.
The nodes are found throughout the whole body. My understanding of the lymphatic system is that it
is a one way drainage process that transports fluid from your body s tissues into the blood circulation,
it fights infections and gets rid of waste products produced by your cells. Lymph fluid normally flows
through the network of lymph vessels that connect to a group of lymph nodes. The nodes, which are
about the size of a baked bean and are located in specific parts of your body act as a filter, destroying
or trapping anything harmful that the body ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But where the tissue could be degenerated through extensive exposure to toxins it can cause the cells
to divide and reproduce so that it creates a mass of the cells, ultimately a tumour. This tumour then
takes over the tissue. Extensive exposure to toxins can lead to this build up of cancerous cells and
weakened defence from the tissue. Our lymphatic system here is paramount as it helps to shift toxins
from the body so that they are flushed out of the body. If the lymphatic system though is damaged or
struggling in any way it cannot perform this function. If an area of the body is constricted over a long
period of time or there is a tightening or pressure applied to it regularly such as ill fitting clothes or
tight bras then this can constrict the lymphatic flow cause blockages and build up of toxins that would
normally flow out of the body easily. This restriction and blockage means that less oxygen and fewer
nutrients are delivered to where they are needed. Ultimately, long term starvation of the tissues and
accumulation of toxins can lead to degeneration, which is linked to cancer, and often linked to breast
cancer for

Essay about Conflicts in Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club
Joy Luck Club Conflicts Many Misconceptions and Delusions Conflicts play a crucial role in novels.
Without conflict, novels would be uninteresting and very dull. Conflicts are seen in many different
forms, as internal conflicts, when a character must deal with private problems, and external conflicts,
when a character must deal with problems originating from an external source, like another person or
society in general. Some common conflicts seen in other novels are person versus society, as in The
Scarlet Letter when Hester is forced to face her mistake of adultery due to the obsession of the
unforgiving town. An example of an internal conflict is present within Animal Dreams, when Cody

Waverly realizes that her mother is only an old woman... getting a little crabby as she waited patiently
for her daughter to invite her in (Tan 204). Waverly finally tells her mother about her life, especially
about Rich, and they begin to get along better. Both must sacrifice a little pride to make the
relationship work, but as they both do so, they grow closer and their relationship becomes stronger as
a result. The second prominent conflict visible within this novel is between Lindo and Suyuan. These
two women are supposedly best friends, yet their constant bickering and competition, which their
children deem as normal , seems to negate this fact. June, Suyuan s daughter, seems to know the truth:
Auntie Lin and my mother were both best friends and arch enemies who spent a lifetime comparing
their children (Tan 27). Waverly also agrees with June s observation of their mothers friendship,
simply stated as such: They were very close, which meant they were ceaselessly tormenting each other
with boasts and secrets (Tan 194). Lindo and Suyuan spent most of their time comparing their cooking
and their children, both believing that they were superior to the other. Suyuan and Lindo both believe
that their own cooking skills greatly exceed the other s. Lindo seems to be the best cook of the two of
them, considering that she learned to cook so well

Environmental Effects On Environment

Through industrial development we have diminished our soil, ruined farmland, trees and have caused
extinction of various species. All of these natural resources took over hundreds of millions years to
form and Americans have destroyed them all for the need to build more. David Brower a prominent
environmentalist says we have diminished our soil, fisheries, fossil fuels and we have changed the
climate. We caused the extinction of countless species by half. Over consumption has reached a point
of harming Americans health and the overall environment. According to John De Graaf, David Wann
and Thomas H. Naylor sixty nine acres of prime American farmland are lost to development. Once
you cut down and pave over farms the land is gone forever. The very thing that humanity relies on is
being taken for granted. Americas increase in consumption does have benefits but the negative effects
on the environment, American health and family outweigh the positive. What once was an abundance
of natural resources is now becoming hard to find. The magnitude that this type of industrial
development has on the environment is irreversible. The damage we are doing can never be undone.
Through our constant need for more we have managed to change the climate. American Farmland
Trust points out how 24 million acres of agricultural land has been developed since 1982. In
Bloomington Minnesota on over 100 acres stands the Potomac Mills

Either way, the hearts of the loved ones left behind are broken with despair. I have sent flowers and
consoled love ones. But, I didn t fully understand death s sting until took my beloved Mother and
Friend from my family. She was the glue that held me and my siblings together throughout our adult
years. It was our ritual to speak before I started and ended my day. My Mother encouraged me to
continue on through my storms. During my deployments, I could count on her prayers. My Mother
knew what words to speak to soothe me and she could build me up with her understanding. I loved
that she never took sides when my siblings and I would have disagreements. She would remind us the
importance of family ties. As a child, I could remember coming home broken because I felt like an
outcast. The children were cruel to me. I was the kid in the home made dress or the plaid pants with
the penny loafers. You see, my Mother was a single parent raising five children. We lived in low
income housing and she worked several jobs to provide the essentials. In our home there were no
name brand clothing and hand me downs were the normality. She kept us feed, clean and a roof over
our heads. My Mother loved us all equally and made us feel as if we lived above poverty. We would
always have family night on Saturday. We would dance, laugh and watch movies. It was a treat to get

  • 2. How Does Race Influence The Politics Of The 1960s Jacob Garbison Professor Sean Trundle History 355 4 December 2014 Dog Whistle Politics of the 1960s On July 2, after signing the 1964 Civil Rights Act, President Lyndon B. Johnson reportedly said to his staff, I think we just gave the South to the Republicans for your lifetime and mine. (Perlstein 365) He was wrong. Although he never lived to see it, Jimmy Carter won a Democratic South in 1976 but it was for the last time. Nonetheless, the party which had dominated the South for almost a century had put it up for grabs with the stroke of a pen. The impact of racism on presidential politics during the 60s is difficult to overstate. Race and racially coded language in particular played a profound role in the GOPs success at winning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here, Wallace did something new. Gone were the overt references to white supremacy, segregation, or even race. Instead, he positioned himself as a defender of the constitution against tyrannical government overreach: I stand here today, as Governor of this sovereign State, and refuse to willingly submit to illegal usurpation of power by the Central Government. [1] Wallace went on, giving voice to the politics of the South in language that was palpable, even agreeable, to the North. The dramatic Stand in the Door was all for show of course. Wallace stood aside, allowing three black students to register for classes later that day, but the effects of the speech would have wide repercussions. Wallace received nearly 100,000 telegrams in response to his speech from all across the country, an almost unheard of number for a lowly Southern governor. More shocking still was that nearly all of them, about 95%, were praising his bravery. (Lopez, 15) They all hate black people, all of them. Wallace reportedly exclaimed, They re all afraid, all of them Great God! That s it! They re all Southern. The whole US is Southern! (Lopez, 15) Wallace had discovered the dog whistle, a way to communicate racial animosity without using explicit racism. This is a distinctly modern expression of racism which, as Ian Haney Lopez says, [stimulates] the intended audience without overtly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Universal Design For Learning Essay I chose to read an article about Universal Design for Learning. This was a learning theory that I had not heard about before. This theory covers a wide range of learning styles for children along with multiple strategies. The Universal Design for Learning Theory ensures that students are provided with a variety of engaging strategies in order to best meet each student s individual needs. A large component of Universal Design for Learning is text comprehension. This theory understands that comprehension doesn t just come after reading a selection of text, but takes time and will grow after students develop more maturity, socialize with others and gain more schema. Students are encouraged to make connections through a wide range of methods. In order to increase their text to text connections, students are encouraged to bring in books from home that align with what they are learning, create compare/contrast diagrams, debate over two similar books and compare books in literature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the past, I have been a little confused with how to best teach my students comprehension. This article has opened a window toward personal professional understanding in the area of teaching reading comprehension. While reading this article I was surprised to find such a variety of ways to make each type of connection. Many of which are fairly easy and can be done in a timely manner. I will make it a professional goal to provide my students with more of these opportunities to connect with what we are learning. If I am able to successfully integrate some of these activities in my classroom, I know my students will greatly benefit from the exposure. They will become more independent and informed worldly thinkers. All I have to do is assist each child in overcoming their barriers, and they can all become better readers, thinkers, writers, listeners and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Importance Of Extracurricular Activities And Personal... Try to remember your first day at school. Generally, teachers cannot even remember the name of any one of their students. Now, how exactly are they supposed to remember all of their 120 students personal lives? Contrary to that belief, most students believe that teachers should account for their extracurricular activities and personal lives. But, not only is that not possible, it is not plausible. Obviously, for students, keeping up with their work and personal lives is a hard task to manage, but developing their time management skills is something each student will need to learn to do as they continue their studies in college. Teachers should not have to plan their curriculum around student responsibilities due to the numerous types of jobs and extracurricular activities students take part in. According to Dunbar s Number, we as people can only remember at most 150 names, of course, that number is the maximum. On average, according to 21 percent of the faculty members of West Warwick Public Schools, the average numbers of students per class would be 120 to 125 students per year. Therefore, it makes sense teachers would struggle at remembering even 125 names, let alone their complex personal lives. Teachers, along with their students names, would have to remember their students personal lives and then go on to create a curriculum based around those numerous activities. Obviously, most teachers would find that unreasonable. Therefore, it is more than clear teachers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Trauma In Maus Art Speigelman s Maus is a graphic novel that clearly displays the appalling treatment of the Jews during the Holocaust. Throughout the novel it becomes clear that the text is not just about experiencing the Holocaust but surviving it s impact. It can be easily seen that the effects of the war are long lasting and Vladek was undeniably traumatised by the event. Despite physically surviving the war, in some ways Vladek did not survive. The Holocaust also impacted Art, even though he did not directly experience it, and Vladek s relationship with Mala. Despite physically surviving the war, Vladek did not escape the emotional trauma that accompanied his survival. Vladek s continuing trauma is clearly highlighted in many ways. Due to the horrific ... • 7. Isolationism Pearl Harbor Pearl Harbor is a naval base on the island Oahu, Hawaii, it is also a major site of the U.S navy. A surprise attack happened by a fleet of around 1200 Japanese borne fighter planes on a Sunday morning on December 7, 1941, it imposed heavy damage to the harbor and that brought the U.S into World War II. The reason the attack on Pearl Harbor started was because the U.S put sanctions on Japan and that cut off the majority of their oil supply because Japan was a part of the axis forces; Germany Italy. Before the Pearl Harbor attack the United States was against getting into the war it had a policy called isolationism. • 8. Welfare Reform Pros And Cons The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (PRWORA) was one of the biggest legislation signed by Bill Clinton that focused on welfare. The main goals of this law were to lessen the dependency on federal government welfare while increasing employment and reducing poverty. The program established a 5 year lifetime time limit for welfare benefits. Because the welfare program was focused on increasing employment while decreasing poverty, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, TANF, was initiated. This program is a block grant that provides each state with a fixed amount of money as long as the state meets certain conditions. According to statistics, employment in never married mothers increased nearly 50%, single mothers who HS dropouts increased by 2/3, young single mothers nearly doubled (Karger et al., 2007). But the problem is, are these jobs sufficient enough to get these people out of poverty? There are issues with employment of individuals. These issues include a lack of work experience and education as well as poor health (Urban Institute, 2014). Needing to work also impacts parent(s) and their duties for their children because of long hours, stressful commutes, ad stressful working conditions. These types of stress lead kids to take on the responsibilities of their parents to take care of their younger siblings (Boscia, 2010). Third, those who support welfare reform say that this legislation successfully decreased poverty. Statistics do show that between 1994 2004, overall poverty rate dropped from 14.5% to 12.7% and child poverty dropped from 21.8% to 17.8% (Karger, 2007, p. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Monocular Deprivation In the early postnatal life, there are restricted time windows within which the essential role of experience is mainly evident. These time windows are called critical periods.54In critical periods brain circuits display a high sensitivity to acquire informative and adaptive signals from the exterior environment. Visual deprivation or ocular abnormalities in early life causes disruption of proper environmental signals that can result in long tremor even permanent brain diseases,55one of them is Amblyopia.56 The deficits can be avoided if deprivation begins postnatal, but there are different sensitive periods for different visual capabilities: 3 months for scotopic sensitivity, 6 months for photopic sensitivity, 18 24 months for spatial contrast sensitivity, and after 2 years for binocular vision. These findings found that there is not just one visual sensitive period but rather that there are different sensitive periods during which different characteristics of vision can bedamaged.43The critical period for monocular deprivation is larger than for visual motion direction deprivation.57 ... • 10. My First Clinical Shift As An Emt Student Mangled Hearts Clipboard and stethoscope in hand, I walked toward the double doors that flashed emergency in bright red letters above. It was my first clinical shift as an EMT student, and first day jitters fluttered around in my stomach. I had no idea what lay ahead of me. However, I was not expecting to witness the fragility of life. About a half an hour into my shift the rapid response alarm blared through the emergency room. I turned to my preceptor and quizzically asked what this meant. A rapid response is a patient who is in need of immediate medical care and intervention. As an EMT who is part of the rapid response team you will be expected to assist with vitals and chest compressions. Let s head toward the recess room, and I ll explain more there. Eventually we reached the recess room, and the rapid response team was already there preparing for the arrival of the patient. A nurse was on the phone with the firefighters that were bringing the patient in. Seconds later she announced It s a STEMI . Then fright ran through my veins. A STEMI is medical jargon for a segment elevation on an EKG. In other words, the patient s coronary artery is completely occluded. The patient is suffering from a heart attack. Prior to this, I had never seen someone who was having a heart attack. However, the thing that terrified me the most was that I knew I would be expected to perform chest compressions. • 11. Relational Model Of Church Planting If writing about churches starting churches were a chemistry experiment, relational models of church planting would be the catalyst that causes the experiment to boil over. Relational models focus on sending Christians into their communities to gather and disciple people who are not involved in churches. If enough people are gathered, new congregations may form. While the general idea may sound intriguing, the specific models inspire frustration and fear for numerous leaders of established churches. Pastors who are frustrated their churches, where the Gospel is preached and fellowship shared each week, are somehow not considered missional communities. Church leaders who see house churches as gatherings of disenchanted church members ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While Baby Boomers trusted institutions less than the previous generation, Boomers still were raised in a culture of institutions. Get Hers were not. Get X senior pastors are not very interested in church planting strategy. They are very interested in organic groups and networks of relationships. So relational models are often as close as they will get to intentionally starting new churches. $100,000 Question For years I ve asked church planters variations of the same question: If you were starting a new church today, would you rather have a $100,000 donation or 10 committed leaders? The answer is overwhelmingly the leaders. So the challenge for churches is how to pull together seven to 10 leaders with a shared passion for connecting people to Jesus in the same community. Once again the relational models for starting new churches meet the need. Do the Math Research shows new churches are much more likely to survive if they are self supporting within three years of forming. One key to self sustainability is regularly gathering 150 in ... • 12. Analysis of Disney Films Essay examples Analysis of Disney Films Before starting this essay, I researched several different Disney Films; Snow White, Aladdin, Hercules, Mulan, 101 Dalmatians and The Lion King the last two of which I m going to analyse in more detail. The term representation means the act of communicating by using symbols to stand for things, throughout the essay I intend to see how Disney represents their binary opposites. Binary opposites are opposites, like good and bad. Levi Strauss believed that all narratives are made up of opposites he called these opposites binary opposites. 101 Dalmatians ============== The initial impression the audience have of Pongo and ... Cruella then opens her coat to disclose a lot of red and black; features such as her hips, feet and face are pointed, emphasising a scary image; these are the conventions of a villain. She is sarcastic and her laugh is evil, she even walks like a villain, very upright and proud. There are lots of binary opposites between Roger and Anita to Cruella De Vil, for example, Roger and Anita are helping Perdy give birth, so they are bring life into the world but Cruella wants to take life out of the world by killing the puppies for their fur. Cruella has two sidekicks, Horris and Jasper, these are villains too, physically, they are out of proportion and we first see them in the dark. Although Cruella, Horris and Jasper work together, they aren t really friends, Cruella uses them to do her work. Roger, Anita, Pongo and Perdy do things to help each other, they are in unity. This is another binary opposite. Perdy and Pongo have lots of dog friends across London, who later in the film helps them out, Cruella has no friends. • 13. Analysis Of The Book Jack The Ripper The Complete Jack the Ripper By: Donald Rumblelow Publisher: New York Graphic Society, Year: 1975, Pages: 217 This book is about the history of Jack the Ripper, it s about his life and how he killed. It also talks about his life in the Whitechapel district was. This book is about how he killed and what Jack the Ripper did, it tells about his life and what happened (This book is out dated because we have discovered more since 1975). • 14. Regulating Blood Pressure Blood pressure is defined as the pressure of blood as it s applied to the walls of blood vessels when the heart contracts. Blood pressure is important to homeostasis in the body because it helps maintain temperature and proper delivery of nutrients to the body. The kidneys depend on blood pressure for helping it filter blood and they also control one of the mechanisms for regulating blood pressure called long term blood pressure control. When the blood pressure is low, the kidneys release substance/enzyme called renin. Renin causes the production of a chemical known as angiotensin 2 through this cascade of reactions. Then, Angiotensin 2 causes constriction of blood vessels which means the lessening of the diameter in the blood vessels. When blood vessels are constricted the blood pressure rises. Another gland also helps out. This is called the adrenal gland. In this process, the adrenal cortex on the outside of the adrenal gland releases a substance called aldosterone in the presence of angiotensin 2. This substance increases sodium reabsorption in the body. This also increases water reabsorption. In addition, the reabsorbed water increases the blood volume which also increases the ... • 15. Summary Of Everybody Needs A Rock The children s book, Everybody Needs A Rock, was written by Byrd Baylor and illustrated by Peter Parnall, originally published in 1974. Baylor s simple and whimsical writing emphasizes the curiosity that children have for nature. The illustrations are surprisingly minimalist, a departure from most children s book drawings. The book has numerous story elements that appeal to children. The themes and illustrations of the book are a stark contrast from ordinary children s books. Unlike the vibrant color schemes that one can normally find in books from the same genre, Parnall uses a minimalist style to hint at the concept of centration. His drawings heavily rely on negative space to draw attention to the unnamed protagonist of the story, a child who has one special goal: finding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Baylor treats the rock as an entity, I m sorry for kids who don t have a rock for a friend (Parnall), by comparing it to people without one. He implies that not having a rock is almost like missing out on finding friendship. While the rocks in the story aren t personified, one can surmise that searching for them is like looking for a friend: it takes time and patience. The story favors individualism over family ties, When you are looking at rocks don t let mothers or fathers or sisters or brothers or even best friends talk to you, implying a child s egocentrism. Throughout the book, Baylor reminds the audience that only they can know which is the right rock for them. The writing style is straightforward, formatted in a way that s reminiscent of Wallace Steven s Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird. Instead of a blackbird, Baylor presents ten rules that a child should follow when searching for a rock. His frequent use of hyperbole, A rock as big as a horse is MUCH too big, gives room for the child to use their imagination. Along with hyperbole, Baylor uses parentheticals to ... Political motivations were significant in shaping the Crusades, as evident from the rivalry for power between the Christians and the Muslims, as well as internally within the Christian world, and the launching of the Crusades by Pope Urban II who harbored political interests in establishing his authority in the Christian world. On the other hand in Jane Kenyon s Let Evening Come , the word praise is never used but is instead inferred in the poem. These leaders use optimism, charm, intelligence, and a myriad of other personal qualities to raise aspirations, and transform individuals and organizations into new levels of high performance (2003, p.24). I believe the best way to show Lombardi s leadership style is through the components of transformational leadership. There are four components of transformational leadership: idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation and individualized consideration. Idealized influence describes leaders that appear as role models for followers (Northouse, 2010, p.177). David Maraniss says that while Lombardi expected his players to be early for everything and dressed in suits, but that Lombardi himself would always get there earlier than the players still and was dressed in nothing short of professional attire (1999, p.217). Principle one is Geography is Destiny, geography is what allowed civilizations to settle down, which led to the creation of agriculture, trade, war, politics, new inventions, etc., while it also helped them get to where we are today by striving to create a destiny for ourselves. Principle two is Agriculture Creates Civilization, civilization would die off if they couldn t produce food so agriculture allowed civilizations to grow into cities. Depending on the geography of where the civilization was located, depended on what they could grow. So they had to adapt to their surroundings to figure out what they could grow. Principle three, Clashes of Culture Drive Innovation, shows how civilizations would fight each other for different resources (land, food, water) which led civilians to new ideas being invented like new weapons and strategies so they could defeat their enemy. War led to civilizations spreading and teaching their ways with other civilizations by them seeing their ideas so they had to do better (encouraged new ideas). Orientalism often leads to a distorted view of these cultures, often depicting the people as overly exotic, mysterious, or amoral. Such is the case with Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra. This play was written during a time when Shakespeare was turning his attention away from claustrophobic city life and focusing more on the world. He moves the setting of his play from Europe to Egypt, more specifically Alexandria, the city in which Cleopatra resides. While other locations are used in the play, the focus seems to be on Egypt and the culture there. Just like the Europeans of Shakespeare s time, the Romans in the play viewed Cleopatra and the race of people she represented as mysterious and were curious about them, yet were wary at the same time. There was a combination of both xenophobia and xenophilia among the people of Europe, and these mixed emotions are detailed in the contrast between the Roman s view of Cleopatra and the way she actually behaves during the play. There is a difference between the Egyptian culture in the minds of the Romans within the play and the culture that is actually depicted in the play, but there is a clear influence of the European views of the Egyptian lifestyle in Shakespeare s work. June, Suyuan s daughter, seems to know the truth: Auntie Lin and my mother were both best friends and arch enemies who spent a lifetime comparing their children (Tan 27). Waverly also agrees with June s observation of their mothers friendship, simply stated as such: They were very close, which meant they were ceaselessly tormenting each other with boasts and secrets (Tan 194). Lindo and Suyuan spent most of their time comparing their cooking and their children, both believing that they were superior to the other. Suyuan and Lindo both believe that their own cooking skills greatly exceed the other s. Lindo seems to be the best cook of the two of them, considering that she learned to cook so well ... • 35. Environmental Effects On Environment Shavonne Devine Prof. Welsh Eng 1A (6403) 18 Sept. 2017 Through industrial development we have diminished our soil, ruined farmland, trees and have caused extinction of various species. All of these natural resources took over hundreds of millions years to form and Americans have destroyed them all for the need to build more. David Brower a prominent environmentalist says we have diminished our soil, fisheries, fossil fuels and we have changed the climate. We caused the extinction of countless species by half. Over consumption has reached a point of harming Americans health and the overall environment. According to John De Graaf, David Wann and Thomas H. Naylor sixty nine acres of prime American farmland are lost to development. Once you cut down and pave over farms the land is gone forever. The very thing that humanity relies on is being taken for granted. Americas increase in consumption does have benefits but the negative effects on the environment, American health and family outweigh the positive. What once was an abundance of natural resources is now becoming hard to find. The magnitude that this type of industrial development has on the environment is irreversible. The damage we are doing can never be undone. Through our constant need for more we have managed to change the climate. Either way, the hearts of the loved ones left behind are broken with despair. I have sent flowers and consoled love ones. But, I didn t fully understand death s sting until took my beloved Mother and Friend from my family. She was the glue that held me and my siblings together throughout our adult years. It was our ritual to speak before I started and ended my day. My Mother encouraged me to continue on through my storms. During my deployments, I could count on her prayers. My Mother knew what words to speak to soothe me and she could build me up with her understanding. I loved that she never took sides when my siblings and I would have disagreements. She would remind us the importance of family ties. As a child, I could remember coming home broken because I felt like an outcast. The children were cruel to me. I was the kid in the home made dress or the plaid pants with the penny loafers. You see, my Mother was a single parent raising five children. We lived in low income housing and she worked several jobs to provide the essentials. In our home there were no name brand clothing and hand me downs were the normality. She kept us feed, clean and a roof over our heads. My Mother loved us all equally and made us feel as if we lived above poverty. We would always have family night on Saturday. We would dance, laugh and watch movies. It was a treat to get the home made ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
