The System Development Life Cycle Framework
Prior to Zachman, organizations often introduced information systems technology in direct
response to a perceived need by the organization such as the automation of a particular job
function (Bernard, 2011). As Bernard notes, this became increasingly problematic as organizations
evolved as did their need for integration and communication between their system
implementations. Systems developed to meet business requirements on a case by case basis often
using proprietary vendor products which eventually led to heterogeneous collection of
disharmonious systems (Bernard, 2011). Zachman Framework Compared to the System
Development Life Cycle Framework The most common approach to developing a system during
the time Zachman created his framework was the System Development Life Cycle Framework
(SDLC) (Collins, 2008, February). SDLC is typically divided into five phases which are planning,
analysis, detailed system design, implementation, and maintenance (Coronel Morris, 2015). Each
of these phases is intended as a gate which must be passed through before proceeding to the next
(Coronel Morris, 2015). With this structure in mind, it should be clear that while it may be possible
to revisit the planning phase during the analysis phase, the converse would certainly not be
possible. Consequently, this emphasizes perhaps the key and fundamental difference between the
two approaches. Even a cursory glimpse at the initial Zachman (1987) framework would not reveal

Writing Style Of Frankenstein
Mary Shelley writing style for the novel Frankenstein is very special as it is written in a creative
narrative point of view even though when reading it there are times when one can forget that
Robert Walton is the true singular narrator. Frankenstein is both a frame narrative and a story
within a story, the story within the story is seen through Walton telling of Victor s telling of the
Creature s story. Mary Shelley s writing style can clearly be seen in the novel with the letters
from Robert Walton to his sister in which you can see the narrative point of view, however as
you continue to chapter one it becomes hard to see that as it becomes the story within a story
which then again happens when the creature tell Victor about what he has been doing since he
was created. All of theses events are told by Walton yet it is hard to tell as the novel began to use
words like I and my as if Victor was the narrator for example I am by birth a Genevese, and my
family is one of the most distinguished of that republic. (19) which is describing Victor yet it seems
as he is saying it. This can be seen throughout the main part of the story but towards the end with
You have read this strange and terrific story, Margaret... (182) you can again see that Walton has
been the narrator the whole time. Frankensteinis a novel that is full of memorable quotes many of
which have a much deeper meaning, one of the first ones is What may not be expected in a country
of eternal light? (3)

Rabbits and Wolves Lab
Rabbits and Wolves
Introduction
I will be conducting a computer simulation called Rabbits and Wolves . In this experiment I will be
interaction with a simple forest ecosystem model that will simply take into account three
organisms: rabbits, wolves, and grass.
As defined by Environmental Science 14th Edition , an ecosystem is a set of organisms within a
defined area or volume that interact with one another and with their environment of nonliving
matter and energy. I will be using the computer simulationto alter the interactions of the organisms
in the ecosystem to see what changes occur.
Based on mathematical formulas and probability of certain events occurring, the model predicts the
changes in the populations of the three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Evolution of the Rabbit Population without Predators Wolves
Wolves have been removed from the parameters. The simulation was run for 200 iterations.
Graph 3

Initial Grass Rate cut in half. The simulation was run for 201 iterations.
Graph 4
Increased Initial Population of Rabbits with Default Predation
The initial rabbit population was doubled from 20 to 40. The simulation was run for 200 iterations.
Discussion
My first objective, to view and interact with a simple scientific computer model, was most
definitely accomplished over the course of this simulation. I have done so by changing parameters,
observing the simulation, and analyzing the data that was brought about by the simulation. I also
determined through my use of the computer model that simple changes to one population in the
ecosystem created through this computer model does not change the outcome of the simulation in
any major way. On the other hand, if you completely get rid of one of the populations instead of
raising or lowering

Master Harold And The Boys Quotes
A famous quote by George Orwell states If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell
people what they do not want to hear . Master Harold and the Boys, a play that was originally set
in apartheid South Africa, tells us the story of a young white boy (Hally) who felt he was
superior over two black men (Sam and Willie) simply because he felt they were servants to his
mother, thus they were of no significant in the society at that time. Although the social challenges
of writing literatures like Master Harold and the Boys was risky and challenging, Fugard uses
simple day to day events and interactions between Hally and Sam to expose the injustices
committed by the apartheidGovernment at that time.
Hally as a teenager was very considerate of the socio political struggles that were going on in South
Africa at that time wherein blacks were oppressed by the whites. As a result of this, he used this
motive to mock Sam and Willie on several scenes in the play. He s a white man and that s good
enough for you. (pg. 53) In this quote, Hally was insisting that Sam must call his father Boss since
he was white and the one paying him (Sam) as he claimed. This ... Show more content on

Immediately Hally noticed that, he soon felt there learning wasn t worthwile because of the
preconceptions he had of ball room dancing being a dance originally evolved from Blacks. But
on the other end, Sam and Willie were passionate about it because they wanted to use it to show
Hally of its significance in the society. .....To be one of those finalists on that dance floor is
like...like being a dream world in which accidents don t happen. (pg. 45) In this quote, Sam uses
ballroom dancing as a metaphor to show Hally the world he is being dreaming for. In a
professional ballroom dancing, the couples spin side by side in harmony, and their movements can
be perfectly synchronized in such a way to avoid

The Between Bathroom Placement And Gender Roles
The placement of female restrooms in public establishments suggests the existence of gender
inequality. Due to inadequate information surrounding the topic of bathroom placement an
independent study was done to find whether there is a correlation between bathroom placement
and gender roles. Considering the lack of information provided the way in which the sexes usage
of bathrooms will be analyzed as well as transgenderbathroom rights.
The independent study consisted of going to sixteen public establishments and checking the
placement of their restrooms. The public establishments visited include the following: the

Tagnoli analyzes people s use of different rooms in their house as a way to indicate the differences
between the way that men and women interact. His study analyzed the gender differences between
the way adults recount behavior and impressions in various rooms of their own home (Tagnoli,
1980, p. 833). There were 13 women and male participants varying from the age of 18 65 that
worked outside of the home (Tagnoli, 1980, p. 836). The study required the participants to partake
in a home decorating project (Tagnoli, 2012, p. 836). All the participants answered a questionnaire
regarding how they felt about their living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms (Tagnoli,
1980, p. 836). In the questionnaire, the participants were asked the following questions; to describe
what they and others did in each room over the past week, to describe the feelings felt in the room,
and to write the impressions in any manner they wished (Tagnoli, 1980, p. 836). The respondents
made a series of ratings on 10 different room dimensions in terms of comfort, satisfaction and
pleasantness (Tagnoli, 1980, p. 836). Regarding the bathroom, it was found that men mentioned
using the toilet and bathing more, while women mentioned hair washing and washing self more
(Tagnoli, 1980, p. 838). Interestingly, for the women participants there was no mention of bathroom
use except for the nonexplicit statement of, You must be joking! Let s say all the things a bathroom

Why Terror Attacks Occur
Terror attacks are very awful and sadly occur way too often in our world. So one might ask why do
these keep happening and why would someone commit these horrifying crimes. Just this year we
have experienced eleven serious terror attacks, three of them happening in the United States , and
eight more throughout europe. In my opinion the three main reasons why Terror attacks occur are;
Religion, race, and hatred
The first topic I will be talking about and reasonings is religion. Religion is often the most common
form of terror attack but is also the oldest form. Religious terrorism is terrorism carried out based
on motivations and goals that have a predominantly religious character or influence. Religious
terror attacks has been occurring since before the bible most popular was the fight of the
crusades against the muslims. Nowadays it is mostly consisting of groups like ISIS (Islamic
State of Iraq and Syria) why do they do it for this reason? I can t speak for them but I believe is that
they want everyone to believe in what their religious beliefs are.
Next would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hate comes from a lot of places and the hate that is toward a certain group or people can be
countless of reasons. Some examples that we had this year is the gay nightclub shooting where
a man attacked an Orlando gay nightclub, killing 50 people, this of course being a hate towards
gays and an attack at their community. Mateen pledged allegiance to ISIS on a 911 call, in one of
the worst mass shootings in U.S. history, and the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil since 9/11.
Then there is a type of hate like though hate doesn t have to exactly be at a certain person or belief,
everything that a terrorist does or when a terror attack occurs is hate, the hate that is inside them to
commit and go through with these events is

A Study On Molecular Reactions
A majority of biochemical reactions require enzymes. Enzymes are biological catalysts that speed
up reactions by lowering associated activation energies.1 More specifically, enzymes bind substrates
and hold them in an orientation that increases the likelihood of them coming into contact with other
reactants.1 A way of measuring how fast an enzymeworks is by conducting an enzyme assay. An
enzyme assay is the process by which a spectrophotometer is used to determine how the
concentration of a colored substrate or product changes within an enzyme solution over time.1 With
that being said, the purpose of this experiment is to perform multiple enzyme assays in order to
determine the concentrations of unknown solutions and to gain an understanding of how different
enzymes work. For the first part of the experiment, a phosphatase assay will be conducted by
combining p Nitrophenol Phosphate and a phosphatase, an enzyme that hydrolyzes phosphate
groups. Since one of the products of the reaction, p Nitrophenol, absorbs light at 405 nanometers
(nm), an increase in absorbance at 405 nm indicates the formation of the product. Thus, by
measuring the increasing absorbance at 405 nm, we can use the Beer Lambert law (A=Й›lc) to
quantify how much product is produced at specific times. The second part of the lab involves
conducting an alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) assay using a dehydrogenase, an enzyme that
catalyzes the removal of hydrogen atoms from a particular molecule. To do this,

Why Are Personal Responsibilities More Important Than...
Why are personal responsibilities more important than social responsibilities?
People have a lot of ups and downs in their life. Sometimes they are happy while they are doing
what they like, or they are stressed of circumstances that arise in their life. They are always
looking for ways to find the balance around them. As a result, they plan different strategies to help
improve the quality of life, so they start working on themselves by being more responsible for
their actions and helping others in different ways for a better society. Some authors debate several
circumstances to encourage people to participate in each other s life for the good of everyone in

Furthermore, they can be also responsible for the choices that they are making in life because they
may affect their body and create a door for a physical problem. Furthermore, people need to be
responsible for their intellectual growth as well. In order to be self sufficient, individuals need
to be prepared for life challenges. They can start by going to college to become well educated,
and receive a degree, find a job, and be able to take care of themselves without expecting
assistance from government, parents, or others. When people are able to keep the balance, they
will not be a charge or a problem to the public. Ericsson argues in her classification and division
essay We all put up facades to one degree or another (473). The author debates that people can
have different faces in life that may qualify them at an extent. The way they dress, behave socially
and personally. Therefore, if individuals are well maintained physically and intellectually that will
impact their life one way or another. By taking care of themselves, they make decisions in life that
will be greatly beneficial to them. Besides physical and intellectual appearances, they need to be
careful to avoid situations that may endanger their safety. They need to make good choices of
people and company that they keep places that they are visiting, and recognize the choices that will
benefit them in life.

How Did Germany Lose Ww2
In the beginning of World War II, Germany seemed to be on a path to dominating Europe. Our
world could be vastly different politically, technologically, and socially if this had happened, but it
didn t. Why is this? While Germany led many campaigns during World War II, it seems like one
caused it to lose the war: Germanys loss of North Africa in 1943 eventually led to its downfall.
This is because the North African failure was a massive loss of resources and morale and
because it gave the Allies a geographic advantage. It started Germany on a slow decline that lasted
until it finally surrendered in 1945. One of the primary reasons the North African campaign was so
damaging was because of the resources lost by its failure. The Germans lost thousands of... Show

The largest of these was access to the Mediterranean and Italy. Up until this point, routes of
delivery [from the Allies to the USSR] were long, roundabout, and difficult because the
Mediterranean and the Baltic were closed to Allied cargo vessels. (Greenfield, 228) Now, using
ports and outposts in Africa, the Mediterranean was open and the USSR could get the
reinforcements it needed to begin its fatal push into Germany. At the same time, Britain and the
US were able to begin the Italian campaign, overthrowing one of Germany s main allies and
supporters and beginning their own push into Germany. Losing control of Africa provided the
Allies with a strategic advantage that Germany didn t have the resources to cope with. Throughout
the second World War, Germany was involved in campaigns across the world, from Europe to the
Pacific to Asia. One of the most influential was the one in North Africa. The North African
campaign began the decline of Germany in World War II because its failure brought with it large

Analysis Of Bittorrent, A Nightmare For Copyright...
BitTorrent, a nightmare for copyright enforcement agencies Using BitTorrent has become a
popular and effective way of downloading files over the internet. BitTorrent is a peer to peer file
sharing (P2P) internet protocol that allows files to be distributed via an internet connection. The
use of BitTorrent itself is a perfectly legal and legitimate process of downloading certain files. For
example, if someone wanted to obtain a large free to use file like a Linux distribution, BitTorrent
provides a fast and effective means to download the file legally. Another legal use of BitTorrent
would be companies like Blizzard who use custom BitTorrent clients to distribute and update their
games to avoid overloading their servers. The main... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A swarm is a group of computers that all have the desired torrent file available for downloading.
Computers enter the swarm by accessing a torrent file (file extension is generally .torrent) via a
torrent client such as BitTorrent, uTorrent, Vuze, Transmission, or many others. Trackers are
located inside torrent files that keep track of connected computers. The tracker communicates
with the other computers in the swarm and shares their corresponding IP addresses with
everyone in the swarm so the computers can connect to one another. The tracker does not handle
any of the data being transmitted, it merely provides a medium for the computers to keep track
of which computers are in the swarm. In other words, when an individual wants to download a
file, first they download a torrent file and access it via a client that contains a tracker allowing
them to download the file from not one but many people at one time. The actual file being
transferred is not transferred as one large file, but is broken down into many pieces when it is
downloaded. After a computer has downloaded a piece of the file, they are then able to upload that
piece to others in the swarm. Thus, computers in the swarm are downloading and uploading to and
from each other simultaneously. Once the computer has all the pieces of the file, the client then
assembles the pieces so the file is operable. BitTorrent clients can also utilize

A Synthesis and Response of Two Articles Concerning...
Modern concerns about global warming have rekindled ideas about nuclear power in the United
States but one concern still remains: what is to be done with the waste? Right now most spent
nuclear fuel is stored in large casks at the plants where it was used with plans in the works for a
common location to store the waste for long periods of time. Long term storage is not the only
option, technology exists to take this spent nuclear fueland remove the unused plutoniumand
uranium from the waste products to create more fuel. The remaining waste would be stored in a
long term facility as discussed above. This process is highly controversial due to economic and
safety concerns, but could increase the capacity of a long term storage facility.... Show more content

Bastin also acknowledges the potential for large amounts of plutonium to fall into the wrong
hands, but asserts that if a reprocessing plant is well managed, unlike plants of the past, the
security of the nuclear material is not a difficult issue to control. On the subject of exposure,
Bastin uses the example of the first reprocessing plant built for the United States government by
DuPont. This design was built to contain all reprocessing equipment and materials in order to
limit radiation exposure to employees. The main disagreement between the two authors lies in
the economics of the reprocessing of spent fuel. In his article, Bastin discusses a reprocessing
facility that would have been built in the early 1980s by DuPont that was based on the initial
success of the pilot plant built for the U.S. Government. Using the outline of these successes,
Bastin estimates that the cost of reprocessing at such a plant would cost $250 per kilogram of
waste, as opposed to $1,000 per kilogram at French and British plants or even the $5,000 to
$15,000 per kilogram at similar Japanese facilities. Bastin claims that the foreign reprocessing
plants did not implement the ideas of DuPont s original plant in their design which would have
significantly lowered the cost of reprocessing. The biggest economic cost, according to Bastin,
comes from not reprocessing fuel, mainly because the reprocessing of fuel allows for waste to
remain radioactive for a shorter period

The Effects Of Music On Music Throughout History

Technology: The Effects on Music throughout History
Music and technology aid one another. In a way a person can capture music they love through
technology and then the electronic companies flourish due to the sale and popularity of these
electronic devices. If a person wants to listen to music they can turn on a stereo or TV, choose a
CD or DVD to play, or listen to a songs downloaded in ITunes. All of these devices are proof to
show how technology is used to record, play, and change the way music is heard. A look through
history will show how far society has come in music alone. The development of technology has
changed the way the music industry operates and the way society hears and purchases music today.
It started off with humming, then singing. People sang in church choirs, in the living room, or on
a stage. Music can be heard by vocals or by the melodic tune of instruments. People paid to go to
symphonies and listen to composers perform their masterpieces. Family gathered around the piano,
or at a church to listen to music on the holidays. Music was not portable, nor was it recordable.
According to the novel, Looking Backward in 1888, the philosophy was that technology was the
solution to the ills plaguing modern life and the means to achieve a perfect society (Katz, 51).
Meaning that life was boring and technology was the answer to bettering and changing society. In
1877, Thomas Edison invented the

The Mythology Of The Ancient Greeks
In the Ancient Greeks, religion was based on the image of remarkable and memorable god and
goddess which were powerful, wise, immortal and controlled different part of the universe. For
many years humans had the opportunity to study these significant figures by reading their myths,
stories where our minds are transported to the early time of civilization in which the god and
goddess lived and became the important figures that we know nowadays. One of the god that make
himself stand out using his wisdom and his abilities was Hermes. He is the god of trade, travelers,
thieves, athletes, border crossing, guide to the Underworld and often known as the messenger of
the gods. While many gods are incredible gifted with strength and power, Hermes represents
cleverness, determination and a powerful musician.
The birth of Hermes, son of Zeus and Maia, represents his abilities as a powerful musician by his
creation of a lyre within seconds after he was born. His mother, Maia gave birth to him in a cave
on the Mount Cyllene in Arcadia and he was nursed by the nymph Cyllene. The precious baby,
became very loved and respected by all the gods in the Mount Olympus. Like Heracles, Hermes
showed his abilities as a god really fast, when he escaped from the cave he was born and invented
the lyre. He develop a plan as soon as he saw a turtle when he was wandering from the cave. His
imagination got expanded when he saw the turtle and with his genuinely laugh said: Here s a bit of

Essay On Scientific Method
The Usefulness of the Scientific Method The development of the scientific method in the late 1500
s to the early 1600 s was a crucial stepping stone in the science community. The scientific method is
based upon observations, hypotheses and experimentation. The concept is rather simple, and can
be applied to many areas of study. Once an observation is made, the observer can make a hypothesis
as to why that phenomenon occurs and can then design an experiment to prove whether or not that
hypotheses is valid. Although the scientific methodhas been extremely useful in the discovery of
various things from usages of medications to studying animal behavior, there are still those who
question the usage of this tool. These critics claim that since... Show more content on

There are several disease that are we still do not know much about despite copious amounts of
research. Cancer and Alzheimer s are two major examples of these mysterious diseases. Although
the scientific method is useful in the development and research on various medications and
treatments, there are still limitations. Patients react to treatments in various ways, because bodies
and systems vary from person to person. There is simply too many variable to be able to pinpoint
the exact reaction a patient may have. Clinical trials and studies can narrow down these reactions
down to a list of possible side effects, but doctors can never know for sure how a patient will
respond. There are many unknowns and treating actual patients is much different that conducting
an experiment investigating how two medications will effect an experimental unit. During a
designed experiment, the experimenter can control all the variables except for the experimental
variable and get clear straightforward results. On the other hand, when treating a real patient with
a severe illness, such as cancer, the physician has to keep an eye on all body systems. They cannot
simple give all of their attention to the area of the body that is currently affected. In these practical
settings, there is simply too many variables for the scientific method to be as useful as it normally

Freud: The Idea of Repression
In the Second Lecture of Sigmund Freud he uses the concept of repression
and he gives the explanation of it as the origin of a lot of mental illness such as hysteria.
Freud associates the symptom to a will conflict. He defines it as a perversion of the will
because involuntarily an inhibited intention emerges. It is the premise of the dissociation.
Freud explains the hysteria through the repression mechanism with a comparative study.
First the subject is susceptible to pretend to elude the fulfillment of an unpleasant
obligation. The second, is referred a conception of the human being like whom cannot
dominate everything by himself; the subject s ethical and other standards were the ... Show more

Secondly, I believe The theory of unconsciously repressing the memory of
traumatic experiences is controversial. There is little scientific evidence to support either
the notion that traumatic experiences are typically unconsciously repressed or that
unconscious memories of traumatic events are significant causal factors in physical or
mental illness. Most people do not forget traumatic experiences unless they are rendered
unconscious at the time of the experience. Freud says in the form of resistance, were
now offering opposition to the forgotten material s being made conscious also says
about the forgetting and must have pushed the pathogenic experiences in question out of
consciousness. I gave the name repression ... and I considered that it was proved by the
undeniable existence of resistance . I think this is controversial because as I before say
When repression is defined narrowly as intentional suppression of an experience, there is
little reason to doubt that it exists. But when we talk about a repression mechanism that
operates unconsciously and defensively to block out traumatic experiences, the picture
becomes considerably obscure.
The unconscious or subconscious mind, according to Freud psychoanalysis, is a
quot;part quot; of the mind which stores repressed memories. The theory of repression maintains
that some experiences are too painful to be

The Rise Of Nazi Germany Was The Capstone Of The Inter-War
The rise of Nazi Germany was the capstone of the inter war period, and led to the outbreak of
World War II, shattering the tenuous peace. The Nazi regime s progress was paralleled by the
life of its leader, Adolf Hitler. Born in a small town in Austria, Hitler dreamed of being an artist.
Unable to demonstrate sufficient artistic skill for entrance into the art academy in Vienna, he did
odd jobs and developed an interest in politics. In 1914, Hitler joined the German army, and
earned the iron cross for bravery as a message carrier. He was immensely disturbed by the
German defeat in World War I, and blamed the loss on the socialists and Jews, who he said had
surrendered the nation. In 1920, Hitler seized control in the German Workers... Show more content

On February 27, 1933, the Reichstag building burned down and a retarded Dutch boy claiming
he worked for the communists was arrested for arson. There is evidence to prove that the Nazis
themselves had set the fire, but in any case, Hitler used the incident to persuade Hindenburg to
restrict all individual rights and declare that the central government could oust any state
government failing to maintain order. Hitler systematically took control of all of the state
governments this way. Hitler s private army, the S.A., roamed the streets terrorizing political
opponents. Even so, the Nazis only won 43.9 percent of the vote in 1933. To gain a two thirds
majority Hitler formed an alliance with the Nationalist party, and declared the communist party
illegal. On March 23, 1933, the Reichstag passed the Enabling Act, giving Hitler the power to
make decrees with the status of law, and ending elections. When Hindenburg died in 1934, Hitler
fused the positions of chancellor and president into one office: Der Fuhrer. He took control as
dictator. Hitler constructed the Third Reich under his dictatorship, using the Gestapo, the secret
police, to stifle all dissent. There are many explanations for why Hitler was able to come to power
in Germany. The first focuses on the evil genius of Hitler himself. He was a master of
demagoguery, practicing his

Greek Art Research Paper
Art and Sculpture
Art has improved and changed greatly over time but Greek legacy of art and sculpture remains
renowned and is of great importance to many. Greece has arguably some of the best artworks and
sculptors of the world and this has influenced many other countries.
During the 5th and 6th centuries B.C there had been an improvement in sculpting and art this was
the Classical era. This revolution showed amazing results, the sculptures were no longer stiff and
rigid like the Egyptian models(appendix 1) they had scaled and perfectly measured shapes. The
Greeks successfully created and used the golden ratio and vital or useful tool used in sculpting.
Ancient Greeks had used these geometrical equations to create the perfect statues.

Greece were mixed and used all around the word ruining its originality but despite this it still

This was revealed when the Ai Khanoum in Afghanistan was excavated and certain artifacts were
found. The artifacts were possibly of Alexander the great, thus proving Greeks have shared their
knowledge. The Hellenistic art has many sculptures among them is the Winged Victory of
Samothrace(appendix 2). This magnificent artwork as H.W. Janson depicted it The greatest
masterpiece of Hellenistic sculpture.
Greek myths and legends had a huge impact on art and sculpture of Greece, as a result many
statues of gods and others mythical beings were created. For example the statue of Zeus(appendix

one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. This is proof of the work and smarts put into just

The Origin Of Transatlantic Accents In The English Language
Transatlantic accent had a strong resemblance to musical type of speaking compared to details that
accompany the world s many leading phonetics that come from a sustained form of education. The
fact that transatlantic accent was mainly spoken by the affluent people in the society, means that it
copied the phonetics that educated people used to speak and dropped the letter r form the words
used in the accent, especially from the British accents. In fact, transatlantic accent upon embracing
the culture of r less pronunciation was promoted as the correct and right international English.
Schools of acting, speech, and elocution adopted transatlantic accent and the r less pronunciation as
a method and taught it in the schools. Speech schools in the United Statesadvanced the accent,
thereby, attracting so many people from the elite families to join acting, elocution, and speech
schools in order to learn the transatlantic accent (Jenny).
The official origin of transatlantic accent traces its roots in Australian phonetics. The accent was
popularized by the William Tilly who taught in Columbia University, who introduced the Australian
phonetic consistency in the United States. The professor introduced the consistency of Australian
phonetics using a conscious standard of American speech. The phonetic grew to define the
American classical accent that was eventually identified as transatlantic accent that started declining
during the Second World War. Transatlantic attracted

Sex Trafficking Is A Huge Global Health And Human Rights...
By the time you finish reading this paper nearly 23 children around the world will be victims of
sex trafficking. Sex trafficking is a huge global health and human rights issue affecting roughly
152 countries around the world (Greenbaum Crawford Jakubiak, 2015). The United Nations
describes sex trafficking as the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of
persons, by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud,
of deception, of the abuse of power, or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of
payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the
purpose of exploitation. Exploitation shall include, at a minimum, the exploitation of the prostitution
of others or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labor or services, slavery or practices
similar to slavery, servitude, and the removal of organs (Greenbaum, J., Crawford Jakubiak, 2015).
The estimated number of victims vary greatly, but are said to range from 600,000 to 2.4 million
annually (Miller, 2013), with roughly 100,000 annually just in the United States(Titchen, 2014).
According to Miller (2013), the figures 600,000 to 2.4 million is thought to be grossly understated
due to secrecy, and misclassification of victims (labeled as criminals and prostitutes, rather than
victims). The United States is not only a source and transit country, but also considered to be the

Flowers For Algernon Dilemmas
Dilemmas happen everyday. Some dilemmas can be good, and some can be bad. A dilemma is
a situation in which a difficult choice has to be made between two or more alternatives. In the
story, Flowers For Algernon by Daniel Keyes wrote a story about a 37 year old man named
Charlie who has a disability, he doesn t understand thing that normal people can. He then is
encouraged by his teacher to get a surgery done to become smarter. Some people think that the
surgery was a good idea,or some think it was a bad idea. In my opinion, I think that Charlie made
the wrong decision about the surgery. Some people think that Charlie should of have the operation
to make his dream come true In my opinion, I think he shouldn t have had the surgery because,
people weren t expecting him to be new, it would not be permanent, and he put his life in danger.
One reason why I think the surgery was a bad idea was because, no one was expecting him as a
friend. When Charlie got his surgery, some people at his work were realizing that Charlie had
changed, and was starting to have feelings. Look at him. His face is red.He s blushing. Charlie is

All criminal s first offenses should automatically be sentenced to a rehabilitation facility. Jail is
going to do nothing but aggravate the offender. Sending them to treatment can possibly change
their mindset and mentality. In order to put this plan into effect, we will need approval of
higher authorities to build these facilities. The biggest concern will be the cost of the projects,
but overall it will benefit the community greatly. In retrospect, these treatment facilities will
actually cost less to care for the patients than they would if they were initially placed in a jail or
prison cell. One full year of methadone maintenance treatment is approximately $4,700 per
patient, whereas one full year of imprisonment costs approximately $24,000 per person (

Definitions Of The First Vatican Council
The task of the first Vatican Council is clearly defined in the following declaration at the opening of
the Council:
The Holy Catholic Apostolic Roman Church believes and confesses that there is one true and
living God, Creator and Lord of heaven and earth, Almighty, Eternal, Immense, Incomprehensible,
Infinite in intelligence, in will, and in all perfection, who, as being one, sole, absolutely simple
and immutable spiritual substance, is to be declared as really and essentially distinct from the
world, of supreme beatitude in and from Himself, and ineffably exalted above all things which
exist, or are conceivable, except Himself .
The opening statement at the Second Vatican Councildeclares:
It is clear, therefore, that sacred tradition, Sacred Scripture and the teaching authority of the Church,
in accord with God s most wise design, are so linked and joined together that one cannot stand
without the others, and that all together and each in its own way under the action of the one Holy
Spirit contribute effectively to the salvation of souls.
Both declarations define with great clarity what each Council set out as the unique task and aims
they desire to achieve. They declare one faith but with different goals and objectives, similar and
dissimilar. The Second Vatican Council s methodology towards originality was similar to that of the
First Vatican Council. The theological declarations of each council were deeply predisposed by the
socio political background during

The American Red Cross (ARC) has long faced multiple ethical dilemmas associated with various

Canada, over 1,000 people; mostly hemophiliacs dependent on life saving blood clotting products,

tools to manage what has happened in the past, the ARC will also need to ensure that they are
not allowing anything to damage their reputation going forward. To do this, they will need to be
diligent in their hiring practices; ensuring that they are following the same policy and procedures
for each employee and that expectations are laid out regarding ethical behavior from the very

The Gender Pay Gap
The Equal Pay Act of 1963, established during the Kennedy administration, promised the people
equal pay for equal work. Since then, the gender wage gap has been narrowing every year, but it
still does exist in the United States. The gender wage gap is the difference between what women
get paid and what men get paid for doing the same job. The discrimination subject on gender
salaries earned by women have continued to be a complicated matter. It has turned into an issue
which combines our business economics and social culture. As time has slowly progressed,
women now make on average 79 cents for every dollar men make. Shockingly, only a 20 cent
increase over the last 54 years. At this rate, per the Institute of Women s Policy Research, it
could take a full 45 years before this gender inequality disappears. One of the main issues why
women are paid less than their male counterparts is simple, because they are women.
Discrimination and stereotyping is the most common argument used to explain the gender pay
gap. There have been numerous research studies that compared to men, are less likely to be hired
and especially for high paying jobs. They unfortunately are offered a much lower salary. For
example, a recent experiment revealed that when a group of science professors were presented
with identical resumes, one with the name John and the other Jennifer, they offered the male
applicant for a lab manager position a salary nearly $4,000 more (NWLC). The professors

Essay on Reconstruction
In 1865, the Civil war was finally brought to an end. The five years of war was the nation s most
devastating and wrenching experience. Although the Union was saved and slavery had ended, the
South being defeated and occupied by union forces was ruined and in a state of disaster. Public
structures, private homes, and farm buildings had been burnt, rail road tracks uprooted, cotton gins
wrecked, and the earth scorched in many sections of the defeated land. The nation s next task was
to rebuild the ruined South and the government s plan to do this is known as Reconstruction.

Abraham Lincoln was assassinated just as the South surrendered in April 1865, and then Andrew

office. Enough Confederates signed these oaths to enable the immediate creation of new

abolish slavery in their own constitutions, discard debts incurred while in rebellion, and declare
secession null and void.
The Radical Republicans reconstruction plan included the passage of the 13th Amendment and
established the Freedman s Bureau. The Freedman s Bureau is an agency of the Federal
government set up in 1865 to help former slaves and other persons suffering from the effects of
the Civil War. This reconstruction plan also included passage of a Civil Rights bill and the 14th

Golden Age Of Athens
Athens had what is known as its Golden Age between 480 and 430 BCE, and while it was a
relatively short period of time, it laid the foundations of western civilization.
As the Golden Age dawned, the autonomous poleis (city states) that had formed in the preceding
two to three centuries had set aside their differences and united to face the threat of invasion posed
by the Persian Empire. Though vastly outnumbered, the Greeks had finally defeated the Persian
armies in 480 BCE. In the years of peace that followed, the Greeks made significant advances in art,
literature, science and philosophy, as pride and patriotism drove them to greater heights of
creativity and in Athens, an experiment with a new kind of government flourished under the
statesman Pericles.
Prior to about 600 BCE, Athens had been an oligarchy, with an aristocratic minority controlling its
government. But enlightened Athenian leaders began instituting reforms to the city s government
between 600 and 500 BCE. Solon (c. 638 558 BCE) introduced a new code of laws that was less
harsh than Athens existing legal code (laid out by an Athenian statesman called Draco, hence the
term draconian to describe repressive laws) , and also set up a Popular Assembly of Citizens,
although a council of aristocrats still made the laws.
Cleisthenes (c. 570 508 BCE) known as the Father of Democracy expanded democracy still
further, creating a Council of 500, which consisted of 50 representatives from each Greek tribe. He

Dee should not be allowed to take them, and what this tell us about Alice Walker s sense of what
it means to be in touch with one s heritage. Maggie deserves the quilts because she appreciates
the practical value of the items and would naturally use them as they were intended. Like her
grandmother, Maggie is a person who values the quilts more as a practical solution for staying
warm at night than as folk art which should be displayed in a museum. Dee s thoughts of her

History of Social Work
The development of Social Work in the United Kingdom, United States and Australia has
developed and evolved, influencing people and professionals across the world. Social Work has
advanced through welfare policies and programs with significant historical changes occurring and a
shift in religious and political views allowing these changes to benefit members of society and
address social issues. Key events such as the Elizabethan Poor Law, the industrial revolution, the
first charity organised society (COS) and the settlement movement were established mainly in the
United Kingdom however similar models were then adapted in the United States and Australia.
Pioneering members of society helped advocate for human rights, social reform... Show more

By the end of 1860, it was becoming apparent that outdoor relief was draining community resources
as poverty increased throughout the United Kingdom and other forms of support were needing to
be created as people were becoming aware that it was not just a case of the poor seeking relief
because of their character, but more so of the conditions they were living in (Dulmus amp; Sowers,
2012).
The settlement movement became another key feature in establishing Social Workin a bid for
society to focus on the causes of poverty rather than the individual. This required the volunteer or
social worker to live in the houses with the residents, Neighbourhood based houses were
established in a bid to bring people together from different socio economic and cultural
backgrounds to share knowledge, skills and values (Chenoweth amp; McAuliffe, 2012, p. 35). In
1869, Octavia Hill focused establishing support housing in London for the poor and organising
groups and activities. Octavia strongly believed that we were to help the poor help themselves by
empowering people with rights to encourage responsibility (Smith, 2008). Settlement houses soon
established the first by Samuel and Henrietta Barnett in 1884 in London, named Toynbee Hall. The
United States were quick to follow in this new development as Jane Addams and Ellen Gates Star
established America s, Hull House in 1889. By 1890, settlements were known as an important
method in researching and analysing social

Cause and Effects of Insomnia
In 2011 after I came back from Afghanistan, I was diagnosed with mild insomnia. At first I didn t
understand what it was or why I was experiencing it. I have learned that my insomnia is due
partially to pain. I have now been living with Insomnia for the past 2 years and still am learning
more about it. Most people think that insomniais just the inability to sleep. It actually has different
levels that include having a hard time going to sleep, and staying asleep, and not feeling rested
when you wake up or like most people think which is an extreme example is people who can t
sleep at all. Something else I didn t know about insomnia was the effects of it. Pain, mental
disorders, and breathing problems can cause insomnia, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It also helps prepare the brain to recall the information stored in an efficient manner the next day
when needed. What the research studies have found is that patients suffering from insomnia
have a problem with this ability. People who suffer from insomnia might not even know they are
exhibiting these symptoms. To them they just might feel like they are having a hard time
getting a handle on the day. In people who suffer from acute insomnia it may seem like they are
just having in a rut and that can possibly end up affecting their work. Next point is fatigue.
Fatigue can be a symptom of insomnia. And when looked at closer at what things fatigue
includes it s easy to see how it has a negative effect on some ones quality of life. Researchers like
Ahmed M. Abdel Khaiek, Ph.D. have that fatigue can have a negative effect on an individual s
immune system. Fatigue can affect an individual s immune system by making them more
susceptible to infection and illness such as the flu. Also if someone is fatigued they can be
accident prone. People who suffer from insomnia and display fatigue also have a tendency to
have slower reaction times, and may even end up causing an accident if they were to be behind
the wheel of a car. Lastly difficulties in interpersonal relationships are one of the biggest concerns
among researchers. Research studies show that people who suffer from insomnia are at greater risk
to have depression. Depression can put an enormous

Essay On Empowerment
II. The first dimension to Empowerment: the materialistic component The problem with
categorising the poor in the context of participation is that the poor are often fragmented
geographically, economically and socially and the preferences within the poor vary vastly
(Emmett, 2000). Additionally, one must not forget the existing inequalities between the members
within a community; one has to be cautious of the spatial politics of the poor. Hence, external
actors (such as NGOs) must be careful not to reinforce existing ethno nationalist and gender
dynamics (Ruwanpura, 2007). Historically, the nature of the NGO sector to specialise on an issue
or on one community has had positive and negative implications. The positive aspect of this
specialisation is that it is easy to implement, monitor and report. The negative aspect of this
specialisation is that it can create tension/spite between the affected party and the excluded party
(Ruwanpura, 2007). This makes employing an approach that solely focuses on mobilising a
challenging task to do. This magnifies the attraction towards a market orientated approach. Paying
for a service can be empowering. It derives a feel good, uplifting utility. Some projects in
Bangladesh experienced success that justifies the utility derived from the ability to pay for
something. Women felt empowered because they were making money; they no longer need to ask
their husbands for money (Bebbington et al, 2007). This utility derived by women implies

Digital Music Industry
I. Introduction Many people are still perplexed how you are my love (a very popular song on the
internet in China) has become popular, which is also considered cheesy from the view point of
some mainstream recording industries and organizations. According to Zhang, CEO of the Idol
Entertainment Ltd, this represents neither a retrogression of society, nor a down step in terms of
culture. It is normally a reflection of the current music market, which is to satisfy the consumers
demands fundamentally. In fact, music online is currently receiving both profit and widespread
acclaim, drawing lines with recording industry and traditional music profit modal (Zhang, 2006).

Finally, the recording companies will distribute their record (Nirkind, 2003). However, the
Internet has been a shortcut for recording songs and for recording companies, in other word, just
as important as playing songs in a ranking list in radio stations. C. From monopoly to public The
increasing popularity of web songs has helped to improve the music business. In contrast, the
previous mode has been laggard because of the monopolization by a few major elite music
companies (Zhang, 2006). Every music fan is currently fascinated with the dissemination of
musical industry digital interface (MIDI) in producing his or her own music. In addition, if we say
the MP3 player represents a revolution in terms of music dissemination, in that way, MIDI can be
considered to be the delegate of a music revolution in music production (Kennedy, 2006). In the
past, producing a song needs to be helped by other musicians and musical instruments costing at
least 10,000 Yuan in China. Nowadays, depend on the advances of technology, the computer can
uses musical industry digital interface to simulate all musical instruments almost at around 300 to
500 Yuan (Zhang, 2006), thus, a huge reducing cost in producing music. D. From middle class to

established in society, including the relationship among slave and master where even slaves

how Santa Claus became a conditional benefactor for children, encouraging them to be inexplicitly

Target Corporation Case
Overview/Benefits
CVS Health s buyout of Target s pharmacies and health clinics, was smart and another example of
their aggressive marketing strategy. This buyout has strengthened CVS s position as the largest
dispensary of prescription medications and healthcare clinics in the United States. With the buyout,
CVS gains 1,600 established pharmacies and 80 clinics in 47 states, thus allowing them to expand
in geographic areas where their presence is currently weak.
As part of the deal, the pharmacies and clinics will be re branded under the CVS brand and brand

CVS has strong buying power and should be able to secure discounts from purchasing in bulk.
The costs for CVS should be less than Target s costs, which in theory, would allow them to drop
prices significantly. However, CVS needs to be careful that they don t lower the cost beyond
perceived value to avoid a costly price war which will just eat away at their profits. With that said,
some cost savings should be passed onto the consumer, to attempt to gain their loyalty and start the
relationship building.
CVS presumably already has a well developed distribution channel and supply chain. Expansion
into new markets may require additional resources such as outsourcing or additional distribution
centers, geographically located closer to the stores, specifically the Pacific Northwest. Whatever
method is the best fit for CVS.
The last part of the marketing program, promotion, should be part of a bigger program, Integrated
Marketing Communications (IMC). An IMC is necessary because of the scale of CVS and the
importance of having an integrated, consistent message. The IMC should consist of advertising,
public relations, and sales promotion. The unique situation of being physically located within
Target, can allow for some co branding opportunities that may be capitalized

Sleep And Memory
How is Sleep related to Memory
According to the American Sleep Association, Insomnia is the most common specific sleep
disorder, with short term issues reported by about 30% of adults and chronic insomnia by 10%. (
American Sleep Association, 2018, P.1) Scientists have proven that sleep is directly related to
memory. Sleep has effects on insomnia, discrimination skills, memory retention, and more.
Sleep is related to memory because of the effects that it has on insomnia. It has been suggested that
healthy sleep facilitates the consolidation of newly acquired memories and underlying brain
plasticity. (Christoph Nissen, 2011, p.1). When you receive enough hours of sleep, it will help

depends on the process of consolidation, this meaning that if there isn t enough sleep involved then
the brain will not reach that stage and there won t be any long term memories created. If it is an
emotional memory and has a greater effect then it will be transferred to long term cortical stories.
The recollection of emotional stimuli elicited larger responses in the hippocampus and various

  • 2. The System Development Life Cycle Framework Prior to Zachman, organizations often introduced information systems technology in direct response to a perceived need by the organization such as the automation of a particular job function (Bernard, 2011). As Bernard notes, this became increasingly problematic as organizations evolved as did their need for integration and communication between their system implementations. Systems developed to meet business requirements on a case by case basis often using proprietary vendor products which eventually led to heterogeneous collection of disharmonious systems (Bernard, 2011). Zachman Framework Compared to the System Development Life Cycle Framework The most common approach to developing a system during the time Zachman created his framework was the System Development Life Cycle Framework (SDLC) (Collins, 2008, February). SDLC is typically divided into five phases which are planning, analysis, detailed system design, implementation, and maintenance (Coronel Morris, 2015). Each of these phases is intended as a gate which must be passed through before proceeding to the next (Coronel Morris, 2015). With this structure in mind, it should be clear that while it may be possible to revisit the planning phase during the analysis phase, the converse would certainly not be possible. Consequently, this emphasizes perhaps the key and fundamental difference between the two approaches. Even a cursory glimpse at the initial Zachman (1987) framework would not reveal a series of ... • 3. Writing Style Of Frankenstein Mary Shelley writing style for the novel Frankenstein is very special as it is written in a creative narrative point of view even though when reading it there are times when one can forget that Robert Walton is the true singular narrator. Frankenstein is both a frame narrative and a story within a story, the story within the story is seen through Walton telling of Victor s telling of the Creature s story. Mary Shelley s writing style can clearly be seen in the novel with the letters from Robert Walton to his sister in which you can see the narrative point of view, however as you continue to chapter one it becomes hard to see that as it becomes the story within a story which then again happens when the creature tell Victor about what he has been doing since he was created. All of theses events are told by Walton yet it is hard to tell as the novel began to use words like I and my as if Victor was the narrator for example I am by birth a Genevese, and my family is one of the most distinguished of that republic. (19) which is describing Victor yet it seems as he is saying it. This can be seen throughout the main part of the story but towards the end with You have read this strange and terrific story, Margaret... (182) you can again see that Walton has been the narrator the whole time. Frankensteinis a novel that is full of memorable quotes many of which have a much deeper meaning, one of the first ones is What may not be expected in a country of eternal light? (3) ... • 4. Rabbits and Wolves Lab Rabbits and Wolves Introduction I will be conducting a computer simulation called Rabbits and Wolves . In this experiment I will be interaction with a simple forest ecosystem model that will simply take into account three organisms: rabbits, wolves, and grass. As defined by Environmental Science 14th Edition , an ecosystem is a set of organisms within a defined area or volume that interact with one another and with their environment of nonliving matter and energy. I will be using the computer simulationto alter the interactions of the organisms in the ecosystem to see what changes occur. Graph 4 Increased Initial Population of Rabbits with Default Predation The initial rabbit population was doubled from 20 to 40. The simulation was run for 200 iterations. Discussion My first objective, to view and interact with a simple scientific computer model, was most definitely accomplished over the course of this simulation. I have done so by changing parameters, observing the simulation, and analyzing the data that was brought about by the simulation. I also determined through my use of the computer model that simple changes to one population in the ecosystem created through this computer model does not change the outcome of the simulation in any major way. On the other hand, if you completely get rid of one of the populations instead of raising or lowering ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Master Harold And The Boys Quotes A famous quote by George Orwell states If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear . Master Harold and the Boys, a play that was originally set in apartheid South Africa, tells us the story of a young white boy (Hally) who felt he was superior over two black men (Sam and Willie) simply because he felt they were servants to his mother, thus they were of no significant in the society at that time. Although the social challenges of writing literatures like Master Harold and the Boys was risky and challenging, Fugard uses simple day to day events and interactions between Hally and Sam to expose the injustices committed by the apartheidGovernment at that time. Hally as a teenager was very considerate of the socio political struggles that were going on in South Africa at that time wherein blacks were oppressed by the whites. As a result of this, he used this motive to mock Sam and Willie on several scenes in the play. He s a white man and that s good enough for you. His study analyzed the gender differences between the way adults recount behavior and impressions in various rooms of their own home (Tagnoli, 1980, p. 833). There were 13 women and male participants varying from the age of 18 65 that worked outside of the home (Tagnoli, 1980, p. 836). The study required the participants to partake in a home decorating project (Tagnoli, 2012, p. 836). All the participants answered a questionnaire regarding how they felt about their living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms (Tagnoli, 1980, p. 836). In the questionnaire, the participants were asked the following questions; to describe what they and others did in each room over the past week, to describe the feelings felt in the room, and to write the impressions in any manner they wished (Tagnoli, 1980, p. 836). The respondents made a series of ratings on 10 different room dimensions in terms of comfort, satisfaction and pleasantness (Tagnoli, 1980, p. 836). • 9. Why Terror Attacks Occur Terror attacks are very awful and sadly occur way too often in our world. So one might ask why do these keep happening and why would someone commit these horrifying crimes. Just this year we have experienced eleven serious terror attacks, three of them happening in the United States , and eight more throughout europe. In my opinion the three main reasons why Terror attacks occur are; Religion, race, and hatred The first topic I will be talking about and reasonings is religion. Religion is often the most common form of terror attack but is also the oldest form. Religious terrorism is terrorism carried out based on motivations and goals that have a predominantly religious character or influence. Religious terror attacks has been occurring since before the bible most popular was the fight of the crusades against the muslims. Mateen pledged allegiance to ISIS on a 911 call, in one of the worst mass shootings in U.S. history, and the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil since 9/11. • 11. A Study On Molecular Reactions A majority of biochemical reactions require enzymes. Enzymes are biological catalysts that speed up reactions by lowering associated activation energies.1 More specifically, enzymes bind substrates and hold them in an orientation that increases the likelihood of them coming into contact with other reactants.1 A way of measuring how fast an enzymeworks is by conducting an enzyme assay. An enzyme assay is the process by which a spectrophotometer is used to determine how the concentration of a colored substrate or product changes within an enzyme solution over time.1 With that being said, the purpose of this experiment is to perform multiple enzyme assays in order to determine the concentrations of unknown solutions and to gain an understanding of how different enzymes work. For the first part of the experiment, a phosphatase assay will be conducted by combining p Nitrophenol Phosphate and a phosphatase, an enzyme that hydrolyzes phosphate groups. Since one of the products of the reaction, p Nitrophenol, absorbs light at 405 nanometers (nm), an increase in absorbance at 405 nm indicates the formation of the product. Thus, by measuring the increasing absorbance at 405 nm, we can use the Beer Lambert law (A=Й›lc) to quantify how much product is produced at specific times. The second part of the lab involves conducting an alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) assay using a dehydrogenase, an enzyme that catalyzes the removal of hydrogen atoms from a particular molecule. To do this, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Why Are Personal Responsibilities More Important Than... Why are personal responsibilities more important than social responsibilities? People have a lot of ups and downs in their life. Sometimes they are happy while they are doing what they like, or they are stressed of circumstances that arise in their life. They are always looking for ways to find the balance around them. As a result, they plan different strategies to help improve the quality of life, so they start working on themselves by being more responsible for their actions and helping others in different ways for a better society. Furthermore, people need to be responsible for their intellectual growth as well. In order to be self sufficient, individuals need to be prepared for life challenges. They can start by going to college to become well educated, and receive a degree, find a job, and be able to take care of themselves without expecting assistance from government, parents, or others. When people are able to keep the balance, they will not be a charge or a problem to the public. Ericsson argues in her classification and division essay We all put up facades to one degree or another (473). The author debates that people can have different faces in life that may qualify them at an extent. The way they dress, behave socially and personally. Therefore, if individuals are well maintained physically and intellectually that will impact their life one way or another. By taking care of themselves, they make decisions in life that will be greatly beneficial to them. Our world could be vastly different politically, technologically, and socially if this had happened, but it didn t. Why is this? While Germany led many campaigns during World War II, it seems like one caused it to lose the war: Germanys loss of North Africa in 1943 eventually led to its downfall. This is because the North African failure was a massive loss of resources and morale and because it gave the Allies a geographic advantage. It started Germany on a slow decline that lasted until it finally surrendered in 1945. BitTorrent, a nightmare for copyright enforcement agencies Using BitTorrent has become a popular and effective way of downloading files over the internet. BitTorrent is a peer to peer file sharing (P2P) internet protocol that allows files to be distributed via an internet connection. The use of BitTorrent itself is a perfectly legal and legitimate process of downloading certain files. For example, if someone wanted to obtain a large free to use file like a Linux distribution, BitTorrent provides a fast and effective means to download the file legally. Computers enter the swarm by accessing a torrent file (file extension is generally .torrent) via a torrent client such as BitTorrent, uTorrent, Vuze, Transmission, or many others. Trackers are located inside torrent files that keep track of connected computers. The tracker communicates with the other computers in the swarm and shares their corresponding IP addresses with everyone in the swarm so the computers can connect to one another. The tracker does not handle any of the data being transmitted, it merely provides a medium for the computers to keep track of which computers are in the swarm. In other words, when an individual wants to download a file, first they download a torrent file and access it via a client that contains a tracker allowing them to download the file from not one but many people at one time. The actual file being transferred is not transferred as one large file, but is broken down into many pieces when it is downloaded. After a computer has downloaded a piece of the file, they are then able to upload that piece to others in the swarm. Thus, computers in the swarm are downloading and uploading to and from each other simultaneously. Once the computer has all the pieces of the file, the client then assembles the pieces so the file is operable. BitTorrent clients can also utilize ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Modern concerns about global warming have rekindled ideas about nuclear power in the United States but one concern still remains: what is to be done with the waste? Right now most spent nuclear fuel is stored in large casks at the plants where it was used with plans in the works for a common location to store the waste for long periods of time. Long term storage is not the only option, technology exists to take this spent nuclear fueland remove the unused plutoniumand uranium from the waste products to create more fuel. The remaining waste would be stored in a long term facility as discussed above. This process is highly controversial due to economic and safety concerns, but could increase the capacity of a long term storage facility.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bastin also acknowledges the potential for large amounts of plutonium to fall into the wrong hands, but asserts that if a reprocessing plant is well managed, unlike plants of the past, the security of the nuclear material is not a difficult issue to control. On the subject of exposure, Bastin uses the example of the first reprocessing plant built for the United States government by DuPont. This design was built to contain all reprocessing equipment and materials in order to limit radiation exposure to employees. The main disagreement between the two authors lies in the economics of the reprocessing of spent fuel. In his article, Bastin discusses a reprocessing facility that would have been built in the early 1980s by DuPont that was based on the initial success of the pilot plant built for the U.S. Government. Using the outline of these successes, Bastin estimates that the cost of reprocessing at such a plant would cost $250 per kilogram of waste, as opposed to $1,000 per kilogram at French and British plants or even the $5,000 to $15,000 per kilogram at similar Japanese facilities. Bastin claims that the foreign reprocessing plants did not implement the ideas of DuPont s original plant in their design which would have significantly lowered the cost of reprocessing. The biggest economic cost, according to Bastin, comes from not reprocessing fuel, mainly because the reprocessing of fuel allows for waste to remain radioactive for a shorter period ... In a way a person can capture music they love through technology and then the electronic companies flourish due to the sale and popularity of these electronic devices. If a person wants to listen to music they can turn on a stereo or TV, choose a CD or DVD to play, or listen to a songs downloaded in ITunes. All of these devices are proof to show how technology is used to record, play, and change the way music is heard. A look through history will show how far society has come in music alone. The development of technology has changed the way the music industry operates and the way society hears and purchases music today. It started off with humming, then singing. People sang in church choirs, in the living room, or on a stage. Music can be heard by vocals or by the melodic tune of instruments. People paid to go to symphonies and listen to composers perform their masterpieces. Family gathered around the piano, or at a church to listen to music on the holidays. Music was not portable, nor was it recordable. According to the novel, Looking Backward in 1888, the philosophy was that technology was the solution to the ills plaguing modern life and the means to achieve a perfect society (Katz, 51). Meaning that life was boring and technology was the answer to bettering and changing society. In 1877, Thomas Edison invented the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Essay on Reconstruction In 1865, the Civil war was finally brought to an end. The five years of war was the nation s most devastating and wrenching experience. Although the Union was saved and slavery had ended, the South being defeated and occupied by union forces was ruined and in a state of disaster. Public structures, private homes, and farm buildings had been burnt, rail road tracks uprooted, cotton gins wrecked, and the earth scorched in many sections of the defeated land. The nation s next task was to rebuild the ruined South and the government s plan to do this is known as Reconstruction. Johnson supported Lincoln s plan after taking office. Enough Confederates signed these oaths to enable the immediate creation of new governments. Johnson required that the new states ratify the 13th Amendment freeing the slaves, abolish slavery in their own constitutions, discard debts incurred while in rebellion, and declare secession null and void. The Radical Republicans reconstruction plan included the passage of the 13th Amendment and established the Freedman s Bureau. The Freedman s Bureau is an agency of the Federal government set up in 1865 to help former slaves and other persons suffering from the effects of the Civil War. This reconstruction plan also included passage of a Civil Rights bill and the 14th Amendment (all of these were opposed by Johnson). Andrew Johnson had opposed Radical Reconstruction and had many vetoes overridden. Congress tried to reduce his power through the Command of Army and Tenure of Office Acts. The Command of Army act took away some of the president s power as Commander and Chief of the Army and the Tenure of Office Acts said the president could not remove a federal official without the Senate s agreement. • 37. Golden Age Of Athens Athens had what is known as its Golden Age between 480 and 430 BCE, and while it was a relatively short period of time, it laid the foundations of western civilization. As the Golden Age dawned, the autonomous poleis (city states) that had formed in the preceding two to three centuries had set aside their differences and united to face the threat of invasion posed by the Persian Empire. Though vastly outnumbered, the Greeks had finally defeated the Persian armies in 480 BCE. In the years of peace that followed, the Greeks made significant advances in art, literature, science and philosophy, as pride and patriotism drove them to greater heights of creativity and in Athens, an experiment with a new kind of government flourished under the statesman Pericles. Prior to about 600 BCE, Athens had been an oligarchy, with an aristocratic minority controlling its government. But enlightened Athenian leaders began instituting reforms to the city s government between 600 and 500 BCE. Solon (c. 638 558 BCE) introduced a new code of laws that was less harsh than Athens existing legal code (laid out by an Athenian statesman called Draco, hence the term draconian to describe repressive laws) , and also set up a Popular Assembly of Citizens, although a council of aristocrats still made the laws. Cleisthenes (c. 570 508 BCE) known as the Father of Democracy expanded democracy still further, creating a Council of 500, which consisted of 50 representatives from each Greek tribe. He ... Like her grandmother, Maggie is a person who values the quilts more as a practical solution for staying warm at night than as folk art which should be displayed in a museum. • 49. Essay On Empowerment II. The first dimension to Empowerment: the materialistic component The problem with categorising the poor in the context of participation is that the poor are often fragmented geographically, economically and socially and the preferences within the poor vary vastly (Emmett, 2000). Additionally, one must not forget the existing inequalities between the members within a community; one has to be cautious of the spatial politics of the poor. Hence, external actors (such as NGOs) must be careful not to reinforce existing ethno nationalist and gender dynamics (Ruwanpura, 2007). Historically, the nature of the NGO sector to specialise on an issue or on one community has had positive and negative implications. The positive aspect of this specialisation is that it is easy to implement, monitor and report. The negative aspect of this specialisation is that it can create tension/spite between the affected party and the excluded party (Ruwanpura, 2007). This makes employing an approach that solely focuses on mobilising a challenging task to do. This magnifies the attraction towards a market orientated approach. Paying for a service can be empowering. It derives a feel good, uplifting utility. Some projects in Bangladesh experienced success that justifies the utility derived from the ability to pay for something. Women felt empowered because they were making money; they no longer need to ask their husbands for money (Bebbington et al, 2007). This utility derived by women implies ...
