Competitive Advantage And Disadvantages Of Chester F73524
COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES As members of Chester F73524, we see
ourselves as the biggest player in the low tech industry. This is a direct result of the competitive
advantage that we possess. By making heavy investments in fixed assets early in the simulation, we
have been able to create a low tech product to be reckoned with; one that is characterized by sizeable
contribution margins, high accessibility and awareness, and a premium price. As a result, we have
achieved an industry high contribution margin of 45.3%. Furthermore, through our investments in the
TQM module and automation, we have been able to greatly reduce the production costs associated
with producing our low tech product, Cake. Decreasing the R D cycle time has allowed us to have our
product in the ideal position for a longer time. We believe our competitive advantage is sustainable for
the rest of the simulation, as we plan on keeping our low tech product for the entire length of the
game. Thus, we will capitalize on the benefits of having low labour costs as a result of our high level
of automation, and on the benefits of having low material, overhead, and administrative costs,
resulting from our investments in TQM. Nevertheless, like any realistic business, we are subject to
competitive disadvantages. As we enter the next round, we face a dramatically decreased high tech
market share. This is largely due to our failure to account for our improved R D cycle time, causing us

Yojimbo Comparison
Michael Swain
March, 3rd, 2015
Course: FPC211 Section A
Final Assignment: Essay Yojimbo (1961)/ A Fistful Of Dollars (1967)
The following essay is on two films, Yojimbo (1961) directed by Akira Kurosawa A Fistful Of Dollars
(1967) directed by Sergio Leone. The film Yojimbo was plagiarized by Sergio Leone when he made A
Fistful Of Dollars and Kurosawa sued for royalties.
A Fistful Of Dollars is a 1964 spaghetti western film directed by Sergio Leone starring Clint
Eastwood. The film was shot on a low budget. It is part of the Dollars Trilogy A Fistful Of Dollars,
For A Few Dollars More and The Good, The Bad The Ugly.
The premise behind A Fistful Of Dollars is a cowboy arrives at a Mexican town and immediately is
tested by 4 locals who he guns down with ease. An old innkeeper in the town explains to Clint
Eastwood The Stranger about a feud between two families in the town. The original entitled, Yojimbo

Now these two characters have similarities; their use of weaponry. Each character is a master with
their weapon of choice. Due to ethnicity variances, the original version, Yojimbo, use Swords and the
Italian version, A Fistful of Dollars use Pistols. The decision was based on not only cultural factors but
also the likelihood that it needs to appeal to its current audience, hence, American s Versus the
Japanese. One particular detail is the use of substances in their mouths. I am referring to how the
characters are consistently occupied with some form of object that they are either chewing or
smoking. Joe, from the Italian version, smokes a cigarillo in the film whereas A Ronin from Yojimbo
is constantly chewing on an object. One obvious similarity is that they are both lone cowboy/ronin s

Love Canal Research Paper
Leading up to the 1980s environmentalism had became increasingly popular and Love Canal became
a main tipping point of changes in America s tolerance for environmentally damaging things. Love
Canal was originally supposed to be a be a hopeful, industrial city thought of by William T. Love in
1894, that would have a thriving community and would also produce cheap electrical power using the
rivers there (Excerpts taken from the Love Canal exhibit, Library of the University of Buffalo). Later
on it would become a dumping ground of chemical and toxic waste for the Hooker Chemical and
Plastics Corporation, that would then be sold for only one dollar to the Niagara Falls School Board,
have houses and even a elementary school be built on the previously toxic land. Problems started to
emerging, after The Niagara Gazette did multiple reports on harmful chemicals being found in people

eradicate the situation after all these years. Conflict created by Love Canal s health issues and

Walt Disney s Influence On The World
Walt Disney, or Walter Elias Disney, was one of the most imaginative and hard working geniuses ever,

Walt disney was born on a small farm in Chicago Illinois on December 5, 1901.You may have heard
of him and his most famous cartoon character, Mickey Mouse. All of his cartoon characters were
inspired by the animals on the farm he grew up on.He was very artistic and creative. For example when
he was very young he saw a bucket of tar next to his house. He wondered what he could do with it, and

The Film And The Band Played On The Aids Crisis
The film And the Band Played On illustrates the AIDS crisis in the 1980s. In 1981, Dr. Don Francis
notices an increase in deaths due to an illness among gay men in cities. As the number of deaths
rapidly grows, Dr. Francis is forced to do his work with little money and outdated equipment as he
tries to find possible causes of this rapidly spreading disease. Doctors, the Center for Disease Control,
and citizens try to figure out if the disease is spread sexually, through blood or bodily secretions. The
film And the Band Played On shows the reaction from the government, the Center for Disease
Control, and normal citizens of the United States when this mysterious disease emerges. For example,
in 1985 hysteria broke out across Queens when the New York City Board of Education announced that
children with AIDS could attend public schools with healthy children. Parents protested against this in
fears their children may contract this deadly disease with no known cause. Parents believed that their
parental instinct and community control should trump what little known information about the disease
that the NYC Board of Education was using. This event is described in Jennifer Brier s article Save
Our Kids, Keep AIDS Out : Anti AIDS Activism and the Legacy of Community Control in Queens,
New York . At the end of this article and the film, citizens gain a better understanding for this disease
and how it is transmitted. As hysteria broke out in Districts 27 and 29 of Queens, parents

Moneyball
Compared to most other professional sports leagues in the United States, there is a lot of financial
disparity between small market and large market teams in Major League Baseball. Moneyball: The Art
of Winning an Unfair Game is a novel about how an unlikely general manager, Billy Beane, used
unconventional statistical analysis to enable the Oakland Athletics to outplay much wealthier teams in
the league. The problem faced by Beane and the Athletics was competing against large market teams
that were able to afford the services of the best players in the league. Through the use of sabermetrics,
Beane and his staff found a solution to overcome their limited budget ... Show more content on

Baseball is a true team sport .
Sabermetrics, the statistical method applied by Bean and his acquaintance Paul DePodesta deviated
from these overused and overvalued measures, and focused on team players, not volatile superstars
(Moneyball). Sabermetrics revolved around the analysis of undervalued statistics primarily on base
percentage, the number of times a player swings at the first pitch, and the average number of pitches
per at bat a player sees (Moneyball). With this tactic, Billy Beane and the Oakland Athletics were able
to win many more games than they would have if they were constrained by overvalued players. Beane
was able to use this ingenious method of statistical analysis to discern the unique talents of
undervalued players that did not meet the statistical criteria of big market teams. With a very
specifically assembled team, whereby some players were even forced to switch positions, the Oakland
Athletics had seemed to overcome the odds.
A prime example of the potential success of sabermetrics was seen in a player named Scott Hatteberg.
Hatteberg spent most of his career lingering around the Boston Red Sox organization as a catcher both
in the minor leagues and in the major leagues (Moneyball). Hatteberg was seen as a very average
catcher and hitter throughout the big leagues. He did his job well enough, however he did not stand
out in popular statistical categories such as homeruns and RBIs. Unacknowledged by the Red Sox,
however,

Examples Of The Transcendentalism Movement
Introduction The transcendentalism movement is a prominent example that resulted in change and
revolution in human history. A literary, religious, political and philosophical movement,
transcendentalism started in the mid 1830s and challenged the traditional views of society, particularly
those related to the established churches. The origins of transcendentalism date back to sixteenth and
seventeenth century New England, when Puritanism first emerged as a call for furthering perfection of
the Protestant Reform (Bremer and Webster 13). Unitarians, successors of Puritans, also initiated the
transcendental movement and were conceived as mentors of many rising transcendentalists (Grodzins
1). Eventually, these rising transcendentalists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Origins of Transcendentalism The emergence of transcendentalism is largely attributed to the religious
reform movement of Puritanism that began in the late sixteenth century in New England. The
foundational beliefs of Puritanism paralleled with those of Calvinism, and strongly contrasts with
those of the transcendentalists. For example, the Puritans emphasized theocracy based on the bible, as
well as salvation, material wealth, and man s dominance over nature. Contrastingly, the
transcendentalists believed in democracy based on intuition, the simplification of every day life, and
man being one with nature. Unitarianism also gave rise to transcendentalism, as the Unitarian church
took more of an anti Calvinist approach which appealed to the transcendentalists. The founders of
transcendentalism were Unitarian intellectuals of the middle and upper classes of eastern
Massachusetts, who took a strong interest in moral reform. Initially, they looked to Unitarians as
teachers, however, they eventually challenged the important principles of the Unitarian church. These
transcendentalists not only challenged the Unitarian doctrines that were taught at Harvard Divinity
School, but they protested against the general aspects of society and intellectualism. Rather than
through logic and the doctrines of established religions, the transcendentalists believed that the
spiritual state can only be accomplished through one s

Four Corners Of The Gohonzon
The Four Corners of the Gohonzon With no particular reason I shall start my exploratory journey of
the Gohonzon from its four corners. Indeed, the structural soundness of any edifice rests on its corner

Hindu tradition has portayed that they lived in the mid slopes of Mount Sumeru in four different
directions guarding the Buddha whilst the latter meditated against possible interference from evil
forces. They are revered as powerful protectors of Buddha and the Dharma. All four heavenly kings

The Power Of Love In A Midsummer s Night Dream
Love is a powerful emotion, capable of turning the most rational people into crazed, irrational lovers.
In A Midsummer s Night Dream, Shakespeare centralizes his comedy around the theme of human love
as a powerful, transformative force. Through the use of a magical love potion, the characters within
the play are blinded by fierce passion and their sight is narrowed to see only what the lover selectively
chooses to see. As a result of the power of love, the sensible become irrational and emotions that stem
from love, such as jealousy and desperation, give birth to hysterical chaos. In A Midsummer s Night
Dream, Shakespeare presents love as an uncontrollable, indiscriminate, and transformative force that
prevents those infected with its power

The Celluloid Closet Movie Analysis
The Celluloid Closet is a documentary directed/written by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman. The
film shows numerous clips of actors who act in the role as a gay, bisexual, transgender, or a lesbian
character. This movie gives the audience a great insight of what it like to make a movie like that in
Hollywood. They interview men and women who either portray as a character in the film, by giving
their personal experience what it like to be that character they portray, or either directed/written a
movie about it. In the beginning of the film, the word SISSY is a trait in a boy or a man that associate
with feminine behavior or style. It can also be a woman with muscular traits.
Does Sissy liberate? Yes, Hollywood allowed it. Sissy s was never open about their sexuality they
were mainly like a subliminal in a film. The subject was never discussed privately or even in public,
but you knew by the behavior of the men or women. Hollywood industry felt that if a man dress as a
woman they think it comedy. When a woman dress as a man they think she look pretty or sexy for
both men and women. Looking through the history of homosexual, gay and lesbian films, you can see
the progress, but you can also see the era in the time when people at once was afraid to now people are
more open. For example, in the 1920s people was more scared to come out and be who they are. At
the time not, much actors wanted to act or portray as homosexual because they thought it will ruin
their career. Compare

Global Organizational Structure Is The Way A Company
As trade increases hyper competition grows forcing organizations to go global. By a company going
global it requires them to rethink strategy and reform (Ananthram and Pearson, 2008). Global
organizational structure is the way a company aims to merge local preferences with global strategy.
The definition of global strategy is strategic choices that have the characteristics of being globally
uniform or integrated, (Yip et al., 1997) such as standardization of products, uniform marketing, and
competitive moves, but all globally (Townsend et al., 2004; Zou and Cavusgil, 2002; Bayraktar and
Ndubisi, 2014). Global strategic strategy is a way to adjust to globalization. Globalization is the
economic and social process by which economies and communities grow inextricably interdependent
(Jhirad et al., 2009). The recent financial crisis (Das, 2010), large amount of poverty, and climate
change are all problems that show how the world is globally connected because all countries impact
each other (Jhirad et al., 2009).
Research Methodology
This research is qualitative. When the research focuses on fields such as human behavior, strategy
configuration, and policy assessment the qualitative approach is recognized as the appropriate
scientific method (Tilaki and Hedayati, 2015;Polkinghorne, 1991). This study will examine the
organizational structure of the United Nations in order to come to a conclusion as to a more efficient
structure that could have been used during the

The Emancipation of a Member of Congress
Our elected officials are sent to Washington to represent the people. In the case of the house they are
there to represent the people of a certain district. Senators are supposed to represent citizens of a
certain state. They currently have no limits on how long they can serve. There are many faces in
Congress that have been there for over 20 years. I intend to explain why having the same people hold
the same office is not healthy for the average American citizen. The original intent of the Constitution
was to limit government and the self serving interests that become tyrannical by their very nature. The
fact that the founders did not include limiting terms for Congress appears to be a great oversight. The
reason for this is simple. When a person was chosen to serve during the time of the founders it was
considered both and honor and a burden. The founders overlooked term limits because at the time it
was not an issue as it was not lucrative to be a member of Congress. Through devious legislation
Congress has turned these offices of service into an institution that is above the very people it was
designed to serve. It has become an institution that seeks power and allows corruption.
When one considers that the approval rate of Congress at any given time is below 30%, it would seem
apparent that citizens are not happy with how they are represented. The question then becomes Why
are the same members of Congress elected if everyone is so unhappy with how they

Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus

Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS CoV) Since its first description in 2012 by
Dr. Ali Zaki1 the Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus has been confirmed in the
infection of 206 individuals and has resulted in 86 deaths2. The disease resulting from MERS CoV
infection presents with a fever of greater than 100.4ᵒF, acute respiratory distress syndrome and
pneumonia associated with acute renal failure1. The origin of the pathogen is in the Middle East
including the following countries: Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab
Emirates. Beyond the Arabian Peninsula the following countries have also been affected: France,
Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom2. If the number of cases, mortality, disease state and
distribution of the infection are considered then it is justifiable to say that MERS CoV is an emerging
infectious disease that must be investigated, understood and followed closely in order to prevent the
loss of life. MERS CoV is a coronavirus of the subgenus known as the betacoronaviruses. It is an
enveloped, positive sense, single stranded RNA species that infects the respiratory tract and kidney
epithelium of both humans and animals3. This virus falls under the subgroup of betacoronaviruses
known as lineage C which, up until this novel virus was identified, included isolates from bats.

Proposed Project Portfolio Management Process
Proposed Project Portfolio Management Process
Project management has grown beyond the confines of simplistic canned applications into a discipline
that is in large part process, combined with common sense and inspiration. The process of Project and
Portfolio Management (PPM) derives from the practices common to project management, as
expressed in applications and tools developed to help project managers collaborate with project team s
cross enterprise.
Project and Portfolio Management solutions trump pure project planning applications by providing
broad visibility into a corporation s investments in human and material resources. Using PPM, project
managers can determine how best to invest an organization s capital in projects that ... Show more

There are, however, best practices and key logical steps that can be gleaned from organizations such
as Brigham Young University (BYU), DHL Americas and Eli Lilly, which have integrated portfolio
management into the fabric of IT management.
The key steps in creating and managing your IT investment portfolio:
Gather: Do a Project Inventory
Portfolio management begins with gathering a detailed inventory of all the projects in your company,
ideally in a single database, including name, length, estimated cost, business objective, ROI and
business benefits. In addition to project plan information, add weekly updates on how much time they
spend working on projects.
Creating a project portfolio inventory can be painstaking but is well worth the effort. For many
companies, it may be their first holistic view of the entire IT portfolio and any redundancies. A good
inventory is the foundation for developing the projects that best meet strategic objectives.
Evaluate: Identify Projects That Match Strategic Objectives
The next steps involve establishing a portfolio process. The heads of business units, in conjunction
with the senior IT leaders in each of those units, compile a list of projects during the annual planning
cycle and support them with good business cases that show estimated costs, ROI, business benefit and
risk assessment. The leadership team vets those projects and sifts out the ones with questionable
business value.

Comparing Roosevelt s Next, And The New Nationalism
I argue that when it comes to developing our capabilities, Roosevelt s argument that the main purpose
for freedom is to benefit the community is the most viable because it helps maintain democratic
processes, while also providing a higher quality of life for all. While Sen and Roosevelt are similar
because they both believe that a society can only develop if the people are given equal opportunity to
develop their capabilities, they differ when it comes to the purpose of fulfilling those capabilities. In
this essay, I will outline Sen s argument as to why development should be viewed in terms of
maximizing our freedoms to achieve our desired lives, in contrast to Roosevelt s argument. Then, I
will advance my own argument as to why Roosevelt s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first, Sen s argument seems appealing because we are all able to keep the fruits of our labor, and
decide what kind of life we want to live. This fits in line with man s natural tendencies toward
selfishness, and it seems that it would be difficult to develop one s capabilities simply for the case of
the commonwealth, and not for oneself. As naturally self interested beings, we would always want to
develop all of our capabilities so that we may live the lives we have reason to desire. However, only
using our freedom for self interested motives leads to numerous issues. For example, one of the most
important aspects of a democracy is exercising one s right to vote; however, if one is only concerned
with oneself, they will vote in a way that only them, and perhaps other members of one s social class,
will benefit the most. Thus, people could end up voting for a leader who plans to make them, and
others like them, wealthier by keeping wealth within a small percentage of the population. Not only
does this hinder development as Sen sees it, but it also has many negative implications for a society;
for example, it may lead to higher levels of poverty, crime, unrest, dissatisfaction, and eventually lead
to civil tension (all of which are unfreedoms). Similarly, some members of the community may have
no interest in politics, or may think they do not pertain

topics such as major depression, family relations, and drug abuse. The story narrates Wurtzel s life

Moreover, he disappoints Wurtzel by not providing for her financially, (Prozac Nation, 2001). Her
familial conflicts continue well into her college years. Therefore, it is safe to deduce that Wurtzel s
childhood did play a considerable role in the development of her depression. Another important aspect
of Wurtzel s psychological condition is behavioral. In the movie, she abuses many kinds of drugs in
college, in an attempt to alleviate her depressive symptoms (Prozac Nation, 2001). In fact, drug abuse
is a commonly co morbid condition in depressed patients (Nunes and Levin, 2008). In Wurtzel s case,
however, drug abuse is a manifestation rather than the cause of her depression. The behavioral,
psychodynamic, and biological paradigms of depression help explain Wurtzel s emotional turmoil.
However, these paradigms also have some weaknesses. The biological paradigm, for example, is not
always a reliable indicator of how a person can develop emotional conditions later in life. Mood
disorders may occur despite a child being exposed to normal parenting or the lack of negative parental
dynamics (Wagner, 2003). The psychodynamic paradigm alone cannot explain the entire origin of one
s psychological problems. Interpersonal and familial conflicts could contribute to depression, but may
not be the direct cause. Therefore, any psychological paradigm alone will normally not be successful
to describe one s depressive symptoms. When

War In Iraq
The war in Iraq was a very controversial and often times disapproved of war. It is seen as
counterproductive only bringing forth horrors for those involved in it. In light of the evidence
provided, it is certainly apparent that Canada was perfectly justified in its decision not to enter the war
in Iraq. By abstaining from the war, Canada was able to save countless lives, did not have to deal with
implications at home due to war and was able to maintain the well being of Canadians back home.
Any war takes a tremendous toll on the lives of those soldiers involved in the effort and at times,
citizens as well. By abstaining from entering the Iraq war, Canada was able to prevent this completely
for it s soldiers. Staying out of the war, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most importantly, however, it added majorly to the wellbeing of Canadians back home. The most
discernable reason for this being that Canadians did not have to live in constant fear of being attacked
on during the time of the Iraq war. Citizens of countries involved in war should always be prepared for
the worst but due to Canada not even being a part of the war, Canadians did not have to accept this
harsh reality. Furthermore, terrorist groups similar to ISIS were created during the war as many people
in Iraq felt anger towards the countries that were in their views invading and hurting their nation. A
recent survey has shown that after America s war on terror , terrorism in Iraq actually increased. [6]
Not being a part of this war saved Canadians from being hated and targeted by these terrorist groups.
In addition, Canada not being a part of the war helped Canada keep it s trading relationship with Iraq
that is an asset. This has been proven by a statement online revealing that, Iraq has 115 billion barrels
of proven oil reserves, the fifth largest in the world [7]. Oil is a widely and desperately needed
resource, which can only be found in a few places. The availability of oil leads to a better standard to
living for the people of Canada as oil is needed for many reasons and is a quickly diminishing
resource. If Canada were to be in the Iraq war of 2003, it could

Gut Microbiota Research Paper
Molecular insights into gastric sleeve surgery: A review on gut microbiota and obesity 1. Introduction
Overweight and obesity are defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as an abnormal or
excessive accumulation of body fat that damages the health of the individual. Nowadays, obesity is
becoming widespread around the world, with complications such as diabetes and an increased risk of
heart disease. Currently, it has been shown that in addition to genetic factors, the incidence of obesity
is affected by environmental factors such as gut microbiota interactions, and diet through changes in
gut microbiota, intestinal permeability and LPS levels. The gut microbiota consists of bacteria, fungi,
viruses and protozoans, often belonging to the phyla of Frimicutes, Bacteroides, Actinobacteria, and
Protebacteria (3). Although, more than a thousand different bacteria are found in the human intestine,
only 150 to 170 species are common between different individuals, so microbiotas are specific for
each individual (4). Imbalance in the symbiosis of digestive tract microbiotas (dysbiosis) can occur in
a variety of ways, including dietary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This surgery is a safe and effective way to reduce the weight of patients who are at greater risk or who
want to minimize the risk of weight loss surgery, due to excessive obesity (11). Effective factors in
weight loss in sleeve gastrectomy are food restrictions, malabsorption, gastric emptying, rapid gastric
emptying, increased appetite regulating hormones (PYY, GIP, GLP1, etc.), decreased hunger hormone
(ghrelin) and increased bile acids. Although, the size of the stomach is reduced in this type of surgery,
but its function stays normal. On the other hand, it reduces hunger due to extra gastric volume,
containing cells producing ghrelin hormone (provoking hunger and causing starvation)

The Financial Collapse Of 2008
After the financial collapse of 2008, the mortgage environment changed dramatically for both buyers
and brokers. In order to protect consumers and raise confidence in the market, the Federal Reserve
Board introduced regulations that limited what banks and mortgage originators could do such as
curtailing certain business practices and imposing stricter requirements on capital. However, these
actions have unintentionally affected broker competition, causing big banks to exit the housing
market, which has led to the proliferation of shadow banks and higher risk practices. These unforeseen
consequences could potentially put the housing market at risk by creating a negative environment for
consumers instead.
The new regulations that were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This prevents mortgage brokers and loan officers from steering consumers into considering riskier
loans in order to earn higher compensation. The regulations also removed the incentives that would
entice brokers to push consumers into higher yield plans by prohibiting brokers from sharing
commissions with loan officers, who must be paid a salary.
While the Federal Reserve had the intention of eliminating these unethical lending practices, the result
was a deterrence from the independent mortgage business overall. Without the prospect of earning
commissions, loan officers lose incentive of accepting deals that would take relatively longer periods
of time to close. They would be paid the same rate regardless of the kind of loan they make to
borrowers. Furthermore, the regulations also have an important consequence when considered with
the Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, where under section 1413 of the
Dodd Frank Act, which states that any violation of the loan originator compensation rules will offer
the borrower a defense to foreclosure for the life of the loan (Smith, 2011). Under this rule, a
delinquent borrower can potentially prevent his or her lender from foreclosing on a loan if the
borrower finds a violation of the compensation rules under Regulation Z. Consequently, large banks
would be deterred from buying mortgages with

The Bouquet Of Flowers And The Frying Pan
The Bouquet of Flowers and the Frying Pan
They are just simple inanimate objects, items, things, whatever we want to call them, but it is up to us
for those objects to become animate, giving them attention and importance in our lives and we become
dependent on those objects. In the introduction of the book Taking Things Seriously: 75 Objects with
Unexpected Significance by Joshua Glenn and Carol Hayes, Glenn talks about how different groups in
our society criticize each other over commodity fetishes even though they are guilty themselves. We
are always looking for different objects to fill the emptiness of our lives and give to them more
importance should they really have. Glenn mentions the success anthropologist Lyall Watson
describes any inanimate object which... demands attention and exercises power over those people
whom it appeals , like in the stories of Genesis Cabrera and Josh Ozersky making the object vital in
their lives. The stories have few similarities in some of the aspects, of provenance, properties and
essence. I think Cabrera s story will not make it to the second edition of the book since her unexpected
significant object doesn t covert the criteria what there are looking for in the book even though there
are some similarities, but I don t believe the essence is strong enough. Ozersky s story its full of
memories and feelings, the frying pan had a decade of sharing important moments of his life and

Isambard Kingdom Brunel s Groundbreaking Bridges
1. Introduction Isambard Kingdom Brunel was unequivocally one of the greatest engineers to have
ever lived in this country, or any other. He was recently voted as the second greatest Briton of all time,
second only to Winston Churchill, which is testament to the physical legacy he left behind.
Additionally, he was represented in the 2012 London Olympic opening ceremony which outlined the
industrial revolution and the forging of modern Britain. His influence in almost all branches of
engineering is vast, from shipping to the railway. This project highlights Brunel s civil engineering
work by examining some of the bridges that he built. Brunel s solutions were groundbreaking and
critics often questioned his designs. The Clifton Suspension Bridge had the longest span of any bridge
in the world when it was completed; the Maidenhead Bridge was both the largest spanning brick arch
bridge and the first to use a flattened arch form; and the Royal Albert Bridge was built using lenticular
iron trusses.
2. Historical Review Brunel was the son of French parents: Marc Brunel (a civil engineer) and Sophia
Kingdom. He was born in Portsmouth where his father worked as a practising engineer. Brunel was
taught by his father from a young age and as a result had a solid grasp of basic engineering principals.
He studied in France, attending one of the best secondary schools in Paris, before serving an
apprenticeship with a clockmaker. After this he returned to England and assisted his

Gap Between Literary Gothic and Pornography
As a society, we are confronted daily with pornographic images, they feature in our newspapers, on
our film screens, and even in our novels. This voyeuristic obsession the media holds has for a long
time been desensitizing us to depictions of violence and sex, but has it also disabled us in being able to
see the difference between what is carefully constructed satire and what is merely pornography? There
is probably no text this discussion embraces more in modern gothic literature than that of Brett Easton
Ellis American Psycho. The novel was surrounded with controversy, ecen before its publication in
1991. Originally, cited to be published by Simon Schuster, the company forfeited from the
engagement, including its £300,000 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sexual control of women by men is a major system within pornography, but it is not achieved
through the same extreme level of violence used by Bateman, in my locker in the locker room at
Xclusive lie three vaginas I recently sliced out of various women I ve attacked in the past week. Under
his psychopathic control body parts cease to contain any sign of female sexuality or personal identity
and instead they become trophies of his violent sexual encounters. The image of the disembodied
vagina acts to cause an extreme level of shock and horror within the reader, and it is not an image that
stands alone within the book. These highly disturbing scenes of sexual violence against women
surpass that of pornography, this does not account the novel as being a particularly horrifying piece of
pornography, but instead it sets the novel from pornography completely.
In order to understand this, we must consider that not all of society receives pornography in such a
negative matter as so far discussed, for many people pornography is a private matter that is for the
purpose of arousal. Therefore in order for the gap between American Psycho and pornography to be
truly irrelevant, the text would have needed to be produced for the purpose of arousal. Although there
are some scenes that explicitly serve as seeming only pornographic, the level of the violence coupled
with sexual acts that progresses in

The Markov Chains Game
Markov Chains Game
Introduction
Probabilistic reasoning goes a long way in many popular board games. Abbott and Richey [1] and Ash
and Bishop [2] identify the most portable properties in Monopoly and Tan [3] derives battle strategies
for RISK. In RISK, the stochastic progress of a battle between two players over any of the 42
countries can be described using a Markov Chain. Theory for Markov Chains can be applied to
address questions about the probabilities of victory and expected losses in battle.
Tan addresses two interesting questions:
If you attack a territory with your armies, what is the probability that you will capture this territory? If
you engage in a war, how many armies should you expect to lose depending on the number of armies
your opponent has on that territory?
A mistaken assumption of independence leads to the slight misspecication of the transition probability
matrix for the system, which leads to incorrect answers to these questions. Correct speciation is
accomplished here using enumerative techniques. The answers to the questions are updated and
recommended strategies are revised and expanded. Results and endings are presented along with those
from Tan s article for comparison.
The Markov Chain
The object for a player in RISK is to conquer the world by occupying all 42 countries, thereby
destroying all armies of the opponents. The rules to RISK are straight forward and many readers may
need no review. Newcomers are referred to Tan s article

The Silent Murder Of The Unborn
The Silent Murder of the Unborn
The legal rights and availability of women to have access to abortions was decided by the landmark
case of Roe v Wade (1) (1973). In terms of how this ruling impacted our freedoms, while it gave the
birthmother a right to choose life or death for her baby; the baby s freedom, that of the right to life, (as
stated in our Declaration of Independence (2)) is totally stripped away. Therefore, the ruling of the
case Roe v Wade (1) was effective for what it set out to do, which was to give the birthmother the
right to choose what to do with her body. However, it set up the issue of having to determine the
viability of the unborn baby, and when life actually begins. Both issues are still being redefined today.
Roe v Wade (1973) (1) involved the plaintiff, a Texas resident, Norma L. McCorvey known as Jane
Roe . In 1970 Jane Roe was pregnant with her third child and was not capable of providing the basic
necessities for her unborn baby. So, she decided to get an abortion. However, during this time period
the state of Texas did not allow abortions, with only certain exceptions such as the mother s pregnancy
due to being raped, or incest, or her life being in danger. Jane did not fit any of these categories and
was denied the right to an abortion. Lucky for Jane, she had an encounter with Sarah Wedinggton, the
prosecuting attorney, who needed a plaintiff in her case to challenge Texas anti abortion laws. Jane
agreed to be involved with the

Gender Bias In Little Miss Sunshine
Little Miss Sunshine is a 2006 American comedy drama road film... written by first time writer
Michael Arndt. This movie was nominated for four Academy awards including Best Picture, Best
Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor and the Independent Spirit Award ( Little Miss Sunshine,
n.d.). Gender bias can be identified in specific scenes of this film and in which some of the scenes
succeed in passing the Bechdel test.
The film begins with Olive, the young girl and one of the main characters, watching a beauty pageant
on the television. Olive, an aspiring beauty pageant winner is not the typical beauty pageant contestant
one would envision. When an individual ponders the appearance of a pageant contestant one would

The male actors in no way act superior to the females. From my point of view, all the character s treat
one another with equal respect despite the harshness of reality that lags behind them. The bond
between the family becomes exceedingly conspicuous during their trip to California. When the family
s ramshackle Volkswagen encounters mechanical problems, they soon learn the only way to get the
van moving again was to push it until it reached a speed of twenty miles per hour before it was able to
be put in gear. In order to do this, the family all had to start pushing from the back and then one by one
sprint to the side door and jump in. In this scene, a viewer can hear the family encouraging each other
as well as visually see them helping one another into the moving van. Another scene depicting the
strong bond between the family is when they were all sitting in the waiting room patiently waiting to
hear the news regarding Edwin. After hearing the crucial news, the family decided they had no time to
waste and worked together to get the deceased body out of the hospital room and into the van in time
for Olive to make it to the pageant to register on

Smoking Persuasive Essay
Although smoking is seen as a right of freedom, it has numerous consequences that not only damage
smokers. According to David M. Ludington, Cigarette smoke is the most dangerous of the toxic
elements in our environment. Smoking is responsible for almost 500 000 deaths each year in the
United States (1). For the reason that many citizens are not well informed with the effects of smoking,
the United States has a high death rate per year. The act of smoking in public should be banned, for it
can influence any uninformed individuals to acquire the habit of smoking, which leads to future health
risks. Smoking imposes hazardous health problems to anyone nearby, and inclusively contributes to
various environmental and social problems.
Smoking can cause imminent health issues to all who choose to smoke. Lung cancer, asthma, heart
attacks, and lung diseases are some of the results from smoking. Many do not take this in account of
when attracted to smoking. For this reason, it is unethical for authorities to not fully illegalize smoking
in public. Individuals have the freedom to smoke, yet the government must oversee the whole impact
to the communities. People of all ages are vulnerable to what their naked eye perceives. If and when
innocents desire to smoke, they would have now exposed themselves to a path of health risks. This
course of action is proven to repeat throughout generations as it has been since American Indians first
introduced tobacco to the European settlers. It is

What Will The People Read My Essay And Application Find...
When I first sat down to start this essay, I asked myself: What will the people reading my essay and
application find most important? Will it be the fact that I ve got strong experience in several areas of
sports media? Will it be the fact that I attend a top 10 public university in the entire country? Will any
of that even matter?
Personally, I believe the most important factor on why someone should receive a job or an internship
or any other opportunity is passion. Anyone can be a great writer, but is that person willing put in the
work daily, write against deadlines and even sometimes receive criticism for their work? Do they
wake up ready to get better each day? Do they wake up with a smile on their face knowing that they
are in their dream job, doing what they love?
If they don t, I certainly do. I believe that my passion is what sets me apart from other candidates. A
former professor of mine once told me a story about a young man who had talent he had never seen.
Everything came so easily to this young man prior to coming into college. This young man was the
star football player at his high school, he talked on camera for the school s morning news show and he
was a good looking guy. The problem? He had no passion for anything he did; rather, he simply
managed to coast through high school doing the bare minimum.
When he got to college, he expected everything to be handed to him. When he was asked to help with
anything, he d say no. He was only interested in being a

  • 2. Competitive Advantage And Disadvantages Of Chester F73524 COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES As members of Chester F73524, we see ourselves as the biggest player in the low tech industry. This is a direct result of the competitive advantage that we possess. By making heavy investments in fixed assets early in the simulation, we have been able to create a low tech product to be reckoned with; one that is characterized by sizeable contribution margins, high accessibility and awareness, and a premium price. As a result, we have achieved an industry high contribution margin of 45.3%. Furthermore, through our investments in the TQM module and automation, we have been able to greatly reduce the production costs associated with producing our low tech product, Cake. Decreasing the R D cycle time has allowed us to have our product in the ideal position for a longer time. We believe our competitive advantage is sustainable for the rest of the simulation, as we plan on keeping our low tech product for the entire length of the game. Thus, we will capitalize on the benefits of having low labour costs as a result of our high level of automation, and on the benefits of having low material, overhead, and administrative costs, resulting from our investments in TQM. Nevertheless, like any realistic business, we are subject to competitive disadvantages. As we enter the next round, we face a dramatically decreased high tech market share. This is largely due to our failure to account for our improved R D cycle time, causing us to revise Crypto ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Yojimbo Comparison Michael Swain March, 3rd, 2015 Course: FPC211 Section A Final Assignment: Essay Yojimbo (1961)/ A Fistful Of Dollars (1967) The following essay is on two films, Yojimbo (1961) directed by Akira Kurosawa A Fistful Of Dollars (1967) directed by Sergio Leone. The film Yojimbo was plagiarized by Sergio Leone when he made A Fistful Of Dollars and Kurosawa sued for royalties. A Fistful Of Dollars is a 1964 spaghetti western film directed by Sergio Leone starring Clint Eastwood. The film was shot on a low budget. It is part of the Dollars Trilogy A Fistful Of Dollars, For A Few Dollars More and The Good, The Bad The Ugly. The premise behind A Fistful Of Dollars is a cowboy arrives at a Mexican town and immediately is tested by 4 locals who he guns down with ease. An old innkeeper in the town explains to Clint Eastwood The Stranger about a feud between two families in the town. The original entitled, Yojimbo (1961) has a similar premise except for the fact that it is Japanese and one big major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now these two characters have similarities; their use of weaponry. Each character is a master with their weapon of choice. Due to ethnicity variances, the original version, Yojimbo, use Swords and the Italian version, A Fistful of Dollars use Pistols. The decision was based on not only cultural factors but also the likelihood that it needs to appeal to its current audience, hence, American s Versus the Japanese. One particular detail is the use of substances in their mouths. I am referring to how the characters are consistently occupied with some form of object that they are either chewing or smoking. Joe, from the Italian version, smokes a cigarillo in the film whereas A Ronin from Yojimbo is constantly chewing on an object. One obvious similarity is that they are both lone cowboy/ronin s and both characters are perceived as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Love Canal Research Paper Leading up to the 1980s environmentalism had became increasingly popular and Love Canal became a main tipping point of changes in America s tolerance for environmentally damaging things. Love Canal was originally supposed to be a be a hopeful, industrial city thought of by William T. Love in 1894, that would have a thriving community and would also produce cheap electrical power using the rivers there (Excerpts taken from the Love Canal exhibit, Library of the University of Buffalo). Later on it would become a dumping ground of chemical and toxic waste for the Hooker Chemical and Plastics Corporation, that would then be sold for only one dollar to the Niagara Falls School Board, have houses and even a elementary school be built on the previously toxic land. Problems started to emerging, after The Niagara Gazette did multiple reports on harmful chemicals being found in people s basements and this sparked the conflict of the Love Canal incident (Excerpts taken from the Love Canal exhibit, Library of the University of Buffalo). ... • 6. The Film And The Band Played On The Aids Crisis The film And the Band Played On illustrates the AIDS crisis in the 1980s. In 1981, Dr. Don Francis notices an increase in deaths due to an illness among gay men in cities. As the number of deaths rapidly grows, Dr. Francis is forced to do his work with little money and outdated equipment as he tries to find possible causes of this rapidly spreading disease. Doctors, the Center for Disease Control, and citizens try to figure out if the disease is spread sexually, through blood or bodily secretions. The film And the Band Played On shows the reaction from the government, the Center for Disease Control, and normal citizens of the United States when this mysterious disease emerges. For example, in 1985 hysteria broke out across Queens when the New York City Board of Education announced that children with AIDS could attend public schools with healthy children. Parents protested against this in fears their children may contract this deadly disease with no known cause. Parents believed that their parental instinct and community control should trump what little known information about the disease that the NYC Board of Education was using. This event is described in Jennifer Brier s article Save Our Kids, Keep AIDS Out : Anti AIDS Activism and the Legacy of Community Control in Queens, New York . At the end of this article and the film, citizens gain a better understanding for this disease and how it is transmitted. As hysteria broke out in Districts 27 and 29 of Queens, parents ... The Professional Sports League Baseball Ryan Mahn Professor Matheson Economics of Sports October 27, 2014 Moneyball Compared to most other professional sports leagues in the United States, there is a lot of financial disparity between small market and large market teams in Major League Baseball. Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game is a novel about how an unlikely general manager, Billy Beane, used unconventional statistical analysis to enable the Oakland Athletics to outplay much wealthier teams in the league. The problem faced by Beane and the Athletics was competing against large market teams that were able to afford the services of the best players in the league. Through the use of sabermetrics, Beane and his staff found a solution to overcome their limited budget ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Baseball is a true team sport . Sabermetrics, the statistical method applied by Bean and his acquaintance Paul DePodesta deviated from these overused and overvalued measures, and focused on team players, not volatile superstars (Moneyball). Sabermetrics revolved around the analysis of undervalued statistics primarily on base percentage, the number of times a player swings at the first pitch, and the average number of pitches per at bat a player sees (Moneyball). With this tactic, Billy Beane and the Oakland Athletics were able to win many more games than they would have if they were constrained by overvalued players. Beane was able to use this ingenious method of statistical analysis to discern the unique talents of undervalued players that did not meet the statistical criteria of big market teams. With a very specifically assembled team, whereby some players were even forced to switch positions, the Oakland Athletics had seemed to overcome the odds. A prime example of the potential success of sabermetrics was seen in a player named Scott Hatteberg. Hatteberg spent most of his career lingering around the Boston Red Sox organization as a catcher both in the minor leagues and in the major leagues (Moneyball). Hatteberg was seen as a very average catcher and hitter throughout the big leagues. He did his job well enough, however he did not stand out in popular statistical categories such as homeruns and RBIs. Unacknowledged by the Red Sox, however, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A literary, religious, political and philosophical movement, transcendentalism started in the mid 1830s and challenged the traditional views of society, particularly those related to the established churches. The origins of transcendentalism date back to sixteenth and seventeenth century New England, when Puritanism first emerged as a call for furthering perfection of the Protestant Reform (Bremer and Webster 13). Unitarians, successors of Puritans, also initiated the transcendental movement and were conceived as mentors of many rising transcendentalists (Grodzins 1). Eventually, these rising transcendentalists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Origins of Transcendentalism The emergence of transcendentalism is largely attributed to the religious reform movement of Puritanism that began in the late sixteenth century in New England. The foundational beliefs of Puritanism paralleled with those of Calvinism, and strongly contrasts with those of the transcendentalists. For example, the Puritans emphasized theocracy based on the bible, as well as salvation, material wealth, and man s dominance over nature. Contrastingly, the transcendentalists believed in democracy based on intuition, the simplification of every day life, and man being one with nature. Unitarianism also gave rise to transcendentalism, as the Unitarian church took more of an anti Calvinist approach which appealed to the transcendentalists. The founders of transcendentalism were Unitarian intellectuals of the middle and upper classes of eastern Massachusetts, who took a strong interest in moral reform. Initially, they looked to Unitarians as teachers, however, they eventually challenged the important principles of the Unitarian church. These transcendentalists not only challenged the Unitarian doctrines that were taught at Harvard Divinity School, but they protested against the general aspects of society and intellectualism. Rather than through logic and the doctrines of established religions, the transcendentalists believed that the spiritual state can only be accomplished through one s ... The film shows numerous clips of actors who act in the role as a gay, bisexual, transgender, or a lesbian character. This movie gives the audience a great insight of what it like to make a movie like that in Hollywood. They interview men and women who either portray as a character in the film, by giving their personal experience what it like to be that character they portray, or either directed/written a movie about it. In the beginning of the film, the word SISSY is a trait in a boy or a man that associate with feminine behavior or style. It can also be a woman with muscular traits. Does Sissy liberate? Yes, Hollywood allowed it. Sissy s was never open about their sexuality they were mainly like a subliminal in a film. The subject was never discussed privately or even in public, but you knew by the behavior of the men or women. Hollywood industry felt that if a man dress as a woman they think it comedy. • 13. Global Organizational Structure Is The Way A Company As trade increases hyper competition grows forcing organizations to go global. By a company going global it requires them to rethink strategy and reform (Ananthram and Pearson, 2008). Global organizational structure is the way a company aims to merge local preferences with global strategy. The definition of global strategy is strategic choices that have the characteristics of being globally uniform or integrated, (Yip et al., 1997) such as standardization of products, uniform marketing, and competitive moves, but all globally (Townsend et al., 2004; Zou and Cavusgil, 2002; Bayraktar and Ndubisi, 2014). Global strategic strategy is a way to adjust to globalization. Globalization is the economic and social process by which economies and communities grow inextricably interdependent (Jhirad et al., 2009). The recent financial crisis (Das, 2010), large amount of poverty, and climate change are all problems that show how the world is globally connected because all countries impact each other (Jhirad et al., 2009). Research Methodology This research is qualitative. When the research focuses on fields such as human behavior, strategy configuration, and policy assessment the qualitative approach is recognized as the appropriate scientific method (Tilaki and Hedayati, 2015;Polkinghorne, 1991). • 14. The Emancipation of a Member of Congress Our elected officials are sent to Washington to represent the people. In the case of the house they are there to represent the people of a certain district. Senators are supposed to represent citizens of a certain state. They currently have no limits on how long they can serve. There are many faces in Congress that have been there for over 20 years. I intend to explain why having the same people hold the same office is not healthy for the average American citizen. The original intent of the Constitution was to limit government and the self serving interests that become tyrannical by their very nature. The fact that the founders did not include limiting terms for Congress appears to be a great oversight. The reason for this is simple. When a person was chosen to serve during the time of the founders it was considered both and honor and a burden. The founders overlooked term limits because at the time it was not an issue as it was not lucrative to be a member of Congress. Through devious legislation Congress has turned these offices of service into an institution that is above the very people it was designed to serve. Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus Author: John Larigakis, Boston University April, 2014 Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS CoV) Since its first description in 2012 by Dr. Ali Zaki1 the Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus has been confirmed in the infection of 206 individuals and has resulted in 86 deaths2. The disease resulting from MERS CoV infection presents with a fever of greater than 100.4ᵒF, acute respiratory distress syndrome and pneumonia associated with acute renal failure1. The origin of the pathogen is in the Middle East including the following countries: Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Beyond the Arabian Peninsula the following countries have also been affected: France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom2. If the number of cases, mortality, disease state and distribution of the infection are considered then it is justifiable to say that MERS CoV is an emerging infectious disease that must be investigated, understood and followed closely in order to prevent the loss of life. MERS CoV is a coronavirus of the subgenus known as the betacoronaviruses. It is an enveloped, positive sense, single stranded RNA species that infects the respiratory tract and kidney epithelium of both humans and animals3. Proposed Project Portfolio Management Process Proposed Project Portfolio Management Process Project management has grown beyond the confines of simplistic canned applications into a discipline that is in large part process, combined with common sense and inspiration. The process of Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) derives from the practices common to project management, as expressed in applications and tools developed to help project managers collaborate with project team s cross enterprise. Project and Portfolio Management solutions trump pure project planning applications by providing broad visibility into a corporation s investments in human and material resources. There are, however, best practices and key logical steps that can be gleaned from organizations such as Brigham Young University (BYU), DHL Americas and Eli Lilly, which have integrated portfolio management into the fabric of IT management. The key steps in creating and managing your IT investment portfolio: Gather: Do a Project Inventory Portfolio management begins with gathering a detailed inventory of all the projects in your company, ideally in a single database, including name, length, estimated cost, business objective, ROI and business benefits. In addition to project plan information, add weekly updates on how much time they spend working on projects. Creating a project portfolio inventory can be painstaking but is well worth the effort. For many companies, it may be their first holistic view of the entire IT portfolio and any redundancies. A good inventory is the foundation for developing the projects that best meet strategic objectives. Evaluate: Identify Projects That Match Strategic Objectives The next steps involve establishing a portfolio process. The heads of business units, in conjunction with the senior IT leaders in each of those units, compile a list of projects during the annual planning cycle and support them with good business cases that show estimated costs, ROI, business benefit and risk assessment. The leadership team vets those projects and sifts out the ones with questionable business value. Next, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing Roosevelt s Next, And The New Nationalism I argue that when it comes to developing our capabilities, Roosevelt s argument that the main purpose for freedom is to benefit the community is the most viable because it helps maintain democratic processes, while also providing a higher quality of life for all. While Sen and Roosevelt are similar because they both believe that a society can only develop if the people are given equal opportunity to develop their capabilities, they differ when it comes to the purpose of fulfilling those capabilities. In this essay, I will outline Sen s argument as to why development should be viewed in terms of maximizing our freedoms to achieve our desired lives, in contrast to Roosevelt s argument. Then, I will advance my own argument as to why Roosevelt s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At first, Sen s argument seems appealing because we are all able to keep the fruits of our labor, and decide what kind of life we want to live. This fits in line with man s natural tendencies toward selfishness, and it seems that it would be difficult to develop one s capabilities simply for the case of the commonwealth, and not for oneself. As naturally self interested beings, we would always want to develop all of our capabilities so that we may live the lives we have reason to desire. However, only using our freedom for self interested motives leads to numerous issues. For example, one of the most important aspects of a democracy is exercising one s right to vote; however, if one is only concerned with oneself, they will vote in a way that only them, and perhaps other members of one s social class, will benefit the most. Thus, people could end up voting for a leader who plans to make them, and others like them, wealthier by keeping wealth within a small percentage of the population. Not only does this hinder development as Sen sees it, but it also has many negative implications for a society; for example, it may lead to higher levels of poverty, crime, unrest, dissatisfaction, and eventually lead to civil tension (all of which are unfreedoms). Similarly, some members of the community may have no interest in politics, or may think they do not pertain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, it is safe to deduce that Wurtzel s childhood did play a considerable role in the development of her depression. Another important aspect of Wurtzel s psychological condition is behavioral. In the movie, she abuses many kinds of drugs in college, in an attempt to alleviate her depressive symptoms (Prozac Nation, 2001). In fact, drug abuse is a commonly co morbid condition in depressed patients (Nunes and Levin, 2008). In Wurtzel s case, however, drug abuse is a manifestation rather than the cause of her depression. The behavioral, psychodynamic, and biological paradigms of depression help explain Wurtzel s emotional turmoil. However, these paradigms also have some weaknesses. The biological paradigm, for example, is not always a reliable indicator of how a person can develop emotional conditions later in life. Mood disorders may occur despite a child being exposed to normal parenting or the lack of negative parental dynamics (Wagner, 2003). The psychodynamic paradigm alone cannot explain the entire origin of one s psychological problems. Interpersonal and familial conflicts could contribute to depression, but may not be the direct cause. Therefore, any psychological paradigm alone will normally not be successful to describe one s depressive symptoms. When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction Overweight and obesity are defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as an abnormal or excessive accumulation of body fat that damages the health of the individual. Nowadays, obesity is becoming widespread around the world, with complications such as diabetes and an increased risk of heart disease. Currently, it has been shown that in addition to genetic factors, the incidence of obesity is affected by environmental factors such as gut microbiota interactions, and diet through changes in gut microbiota, intestinal permeability and LPS levels. The gut microbiota consists of bacteria, fungi, viruses and protozoans, often belonging to the phyla of Frimicutes, Bacteroides, Actinobacteria, and Protebacteria (3). Although, more than a thousand different bacteria are found in the human intestine, only 150 to 170 species are common between different individuals, so microbiotas are specific for each individual (4). In order to protect consumers and raise confidence in the market, the Federal Reserve Board introduced regulations that limited what banks and mortgage originators could do such as curtailing certain business practices and imposing stricter requirements on capital. However, these actions have unintentionally affected broker competition, causing big banks to exit the housing market, which has led to the proliferation of shadow banks and higher risk practices. The regulations also removed the incentives that would entice brokers to push consumers into higher yield plans by prohibiting brokers from sharing commissions with loan officers, who must be paid a salary. While the Federal Reserve had the intention of eliminating these unethical lending practices, the result was a deterrence from the independent mortgage business overall. Without the prospect of earning commissions, loan officers lose incentive of accepting deals that would take relatively longer periods of time to close. They would be paid the same rate regardless of the kind of loan they make to borrowers. Furthermore, the regulations also have an important consequence when considered with the Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, where under section 1413 of the Dodd Frank Act, which states that any violation of the loan originator compensation rules will offer the borrower a defense to foreclosure for the life of the loan (Smith, 2011). He was recently voted as the second greatest Briton of all time, second only to Winston Churchill, which is testament to the physical legacy he left behind. Additionally, he was represented in the 2012 London Olympic opening ceremony which outlined the industrial revolution and the forging of modern Britain. His influence in almost all branches of engineering is vast, from shipping to the railway. This project highlights Brunel s civil engineering work by examining some of the bridges that he built. Brunel s solutions were groundbreaking and critics often questioned his designs. The Clifton Suspension Bridge had the longest span of any bridge in the world when it was completed; the Maidenhead Bridge was both the largest spanning brick arch bridge and the first to use a flattened arch form; and the Royal Albert Bridge was built using lenticular iron trusses. 2. • 28. The Markov Chains Game Markov Chains Game Introduction Probabilistic reasoning goes a long way in many popular board games. Abbott and Richey [1] and Ash and Bishop [2] identify the most portable properties in Monopoly and Tan [3] derives battle strategies for RISK. In RISK, the stochastic progress of a battle between two players over any of the 42 countries can be described using a Markov Chain. Theory for Markov Chains can be applied to address questions about the probabilities of victory and expected losses in battle. Tan addresses two interesting questions: If you attack a territory with your armies, what is the probability that you will capture this territory? If you engage in a war, how many armies should you expect to lose depending on the number of armies your opponent has on that territory? A mistaken assumption of independence leads to the slight misspecication of the transition probability matrix for the system, which leads to incorrect answers to these questions. Correct speciation is accomplished here using enumerative techniques. The answers to the questions are updated and recommended strategies are revised and expanded. Results and endings are presented along with those from Tan s article for comparison. The Markov Chain The object for a player in RISK is to conquer the world by occupying all 42 countries, thereby destroying all armies of the opponents. The Silent Murder Of The Unborn The Silent Murder of the Unborn The legal rights and availability of women to have access to abortions was decided by the landmark case of Roe v Wade (1) (1973). In terms of how this ruling impacted our freedoms, while it gave the birthmother a right to choose life or death for her baby; the baby s freedom, that of the right to life, (as stated in our Declaration of Independence (2)) is totally stripped away. Therefore, the ruling of the case Roe v Wade (1) was effective for what it set out to do, which was to give the birthmother the right to choose what to do with her body. However, it set up the issue of having to determine the viability of the unborn baby, and when life actually begins. Both issues are still being redefined today. Roe v Wade (1973) (1) involved the plaintiff, a Texas resident, Norma L. McCorvey known as Jane Roe . In 1970 Jane Roe was pregnant with her third child and was not capable of providing the basic necessities for her unborn baby. So, she decided to get an abortion. However, during this time period the state of Texas did not allow abortions, with only certain exceptions such as the mother s pregnancy due to being raped, or incest, or her life being in danger. For the reason that many citizens are not well informed with the effects of smoking, the United States has a high death rate per year.
