2. ART for The World (AFTW) is an NGO founded in Geneva
in 1995, in the context of the Dialogues of Peace,
an international contemporary art exhibition for the 50th
Anniversary of the United Nations.
Associated with the United Nations Department of Public
Information and recognized of Public Utility by the State
Chancellery of Geneva, AFTW is inspired by the article 27
of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which
proclaims creative activity as an essential part of people’s
well-being: “Everyone has the right to freely participate
in the cultural life of the community and to enjoy the arts.”
For nearly 20 years, AFTW has organized international cultural
events, exhibitions, film productions, workshops, lectures,
concerts, etc. in which artists and creative individuals,
or groups, speak on issues related to our contemporary
society. Artists, filmmakers, writers, musicians, architects,
etc., participating in the projects of the NGO, some well known
and some younger, come from all over the world and are well
known for the quality of their work and their commitment
to the articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

ART for The World est une organisation non gouvernementale,
affiliée au Département de l’Information publique de l’ONU,
et d’Utilité publique par le Canton de Genève. L’ONG mobilise
la culture contemporaine pour promouvoir des valeurs
universelles. Son action s’inspire de l’Article 27 de la
Déclaration universelle des Droits de l’homme qui affirme :
« toute personne a le droit de prendre part librement
à la vie culturelle de la communauté et de jouir des arts ».

événements culturels dans de nombreux pays en organisant
des expositions, films, colloques, conférences, concerts,
workshops, etc. au sein desquels des créateurs du monde
entier s’expriment sur des questions liées à notre société
contemporaine. Les artistes, réalisateurs, écrivains,
musiciens, architectes, etc. qui participent aux projets
de l’ONG, proviennent des cinq continents et se distinguent
par la qualité de leurs œuvres et par leur sensibilité envers les
articles de la Déclaration Universelle des Droits de l’Homme.

ART for The World’s activities are placed beyond the traditional
boundaries of art and create opportunities to reach different
audiences. ART for The World is an itinerant museum, without
premises and without walls. Its activities exist as threads that
unite the promotion of contemporary art with the defence
of universal rights and values.
Since 1996, ART for The World has produced major art events
for the UN and WHO in Geneva and New York, and more
recently for the HCHR. The NGO has collaborated with MoMA
PS1, NY; Lalitkala Akademi, New Delhi; Hangar Bicocca,
Milan; MAC and MuCEM, Marseille; Ariana Museum, Geneva;
Museum of Fine Arts, Lugano: Deste Foundation, Athens;
Frac Pays de la Loire; MADRE, Naples; NABA, Milano; Venice
Biennale; Biennale of Thessaloniki; the Island of San Lazzaro in
Venice and the Institute of Anthropology, Mexico, among others.
Since its beginning, ART for The World has been in partnership
with the Regional Direction of SESC Sao Paulo with whom
its short films are co-produced and the exhibitions such
as Marina Abramovic (2006) and Robert Wilson (2008) are
proposed, as well as thematic projects such as Female(s)
that after Geneva and the Palazzo Strozzi, Florence, was
presented at SESC Paulista, São Paulo in 2005-2007;
Urban Manners, an extensive exhibition on contemporary
Indian art shown at Hangar Bicocca, Milan has successively
been presented at SESC Pompeia, Sao Paulo (2008-2010);
The Mediterranean Approach, from the 52nd Venice Biennale,
travelled to MAC, Marseille, and SESC Pinheiros, São Paulo
(2011-2013); the exhibition FOOD premiered at the Musée
Ariana, Geneva in 2012, and taken up by the SESC Pinheiros,
Sao Paulo and MuCEM, Marseille. (2012-2015); HERE AFRICA
presented in Geneva in May 2014, will be exhibited in Sao Paulo
in November 2015.

Since 2007, the NGO has introduced in its activities a program
of production of short films and videos. The first production
Stories on Human Rights (2008) for the 60th anniversary
of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, is with 22 short
films by the artists Pipilotti Rist, Marina Abramovic, Dominique
Gonzales-Foester, Runa Uslam and Theresa Serrano,
and the filmmakers Zhang-Ke Jia, Hani Abu-Assad, Sergei
Bodrov, Apichapong Weerasetakul among others with the
support of UNHCR, the EU and SESC Sao Paulo, presented
for the first time in December 2008 during the celebration
60th of the UNHCHR in the Auditorium Arditi in Geneva and
simultaneously in Paris at the Palais de Chaillot/Trocadéro.
During 2009-2010 it was presented in more than 70 film
festivals and televisions around the world.
THEN AND NOW. Beyond Borders and Differences (2009-2010),
is a production of 7 short films (Fanny Ardant, Hüseyin Karabey,
Jafar Panahi,...) carried out with the support of the Council
of Europe, the City of Geneva and SESC Sao Paulo, for the
third Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations at the Museum of
Contemporary Art in Rio de Janeiro in 2010, and the European
premiere at the International Festival of Human Rights
in Geneva in 2011; since then the movie has been screened
in more than 30 film festivals on the 5 continents, as well as
in different institutions and televisions.
En 2007 ART for The World a introduit dans ses activités
un programme de productions de courts-métrages et de vidéos.
Histoires de Droits de l’Homme en 2008 réunit 22 courts-
métrages d’artistes, tels que, Pipilotti Rist, Marina Abramovic,
Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster et de réalisateurs tels que,
Zang-Ke Jia, Hani Abu-Assad, Sergej Bodrov, Pablo Trapero.
Réalisée dans le cadre du 60e
anniversaire de la Déclaration

ART for The World, creates projects of playgrounds, with the
collaboration of artists, architects and designers from the five
continents. They have created simple projects able to be built
with materials readily available throughout the world and
adaptable to the needs of different areas. To play freely
and to develop the imagination is a fundamental right that
is most often denied to children in many regions of the world.
It was presented for the first time at the Musée de la Croix
Rouge in Geneva (2000) and at the Museo Cantonale di Lugano
(2002). Since then, it has been shown in Rome, Paris, London,
NY, Monaco and Milan. At each step, a jury chose a model
to be produced in full-scale for the disadvantaged children,
in function of the sites proposed and the raised funds.
Thus in 2002, 2003 and 2004, with the help of the SDC / DZA
and Canton de Genève, the projects of Fabrice Gygi, Martand
Koshla, Margherita Turewicz Lafranchi and Edgar Soares
were manufactured in India for the children of two orphanages,
the Deepalya Foundation, New Delhi and Haryana; in 2004
in Armenia, at the School John Kirakossian in Yerevan,
were produced the projects of Andreas Angelidakis, Fabrice
Gygi, Fabiana de Barros and Stefano Boccalini; in 2004
in Athens for the Olympic Games the playgroud of Andreas
Angelidakis; in 2005 with the support of the Arts Council
at the Gloucester School, London / Peckham the playground
by Pip Horne & Shirazeh Houshary.
In 2009-2010, in China, the trampolino Danser La Musique by
Chen Zhen was manufactured for the third edition of Shenzhen
& Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism / Architecture
and in 2013 Danser la Musique found a permanent location
at the MONA Foundation, Hobart, Tasmania, with the support
of Guy Bärtschi, Geneva.
ART for The World a sollicité des artistes, architectes et
designers des cinq continents à dessiner des projets d’aires
de jeux éducatifs. Il s’agit de projets faciles à réaliser sur place
grâce à l’utilisation de matériaux simples, accessibles et
renouvelables. Sous le titre de Playgrounds and Toys, cette
initiative a pour objectif d’offrir un accès libre aux jeux aux
enfants. Pouvoir s’amuser et développer son imagination est
un droit fondamental qui est malheureusement trop souvent
dénié aux enfants dans plusieurs régions du monde. Le concept
a débuté sous forme d’expositions de design et de maquettes.
Les projets de parcs de jeux ont été présentés dans plusieurs
musées et institutions culturelles à Genève, Lugano, Rome,
Paris, Londres, NY, Monaco et à Milan. À chaque étape, un jury
a sélectionné une maquette afin d’être fabriquée en grandeur
réelle, en fonction des pays, des lieux proposés, et des fonds
réunis. Ainsi entre 2002 et 2013 plusieurs playgrounds ont
été réalisés avec l’aide de la DDC/DZA et du Canton de Genève.
Les projets de Fabrice Gygi, Martand Koshla, Margherita
Turewicz Lafranchi et de Edgar Soares, ont été créés pour
les enfants de deux orphelinats de la Deepalya Foundation,
à New Delhi et à l’Harjana ; en Arménie, pour l’Ecole John
Kirakossian à Yerevan, celui de Andreas Angelidakis, Fabiana
de Barros et Stefano Boccalini, et à Athènes, dans le cadre
des Jeux Olympiques le playground Andreas Angelidakis ; en
Grande Bretagne à la Gloucester School, Londres/Peckham

16. ART for The World has been set up as a “light structure,”
with a limited permanent staff based in Geneva and Milan
and a network of consultants, collaborators and interns
located through the world, in particular in Europe in Switzerland,
Italy, France, Greece, UK, as well as in Armenia, Morocco,
Turkey, in the USA, in Brazil and in India.
The NGO depends largely on contributions from sponsors,
including public institutions and private companies.
The latter, which activities are not always directly related
to art, share the ideals and objectives of the NGO.
ART for The World est organisé comme une structure légère,
avec une petite équipe permanente et bénéficie d’un large
réseau de consultants, de collaborateurs et de stagiaires
à travers le monde et, en particulier en Europe - Suisse, Italie,
France, Grèce, Grande Bretagne - en Arménie, aux USA,
au Brésil et en Inde.
L’ONG fonctionne grâce aux contributions de mécènes
et partenaires, comprenant des institutions publiques,
des fondations et sociétés privées. Toutes, y compris celles
dont les activités ne sont pas directement liées à l’art,
partagent les idéaux et objectifs de l’association.
