Automatyczny Monitoring Jakości w Fabryce, czyli jak wykorzystać kamery, mikrofony i czujniki oraz algorytmy uczenia maszynowego (ang. machine learning) czy głębokiego uczenia (ang. deep learning) by zautomatyzować kontrolę jakości oraz inspekcję produktów i procesów w przemyśle.
Dzięki algorytmom sztucznej inteligencji (SI, ang. artificial intelligence, AI) oraz danym z czujników możemy uzyskać odpowiedzi na pytania: dlaczego coś się dzieje? co się prawdopodobnie stanie? jakie są trendy?
Kamery i mikrofony stają się naszymi oczami i uszami, dzięki którym możemy zliczyć obiekty, sprawdzić ich jakość, zidentyfikować problemy typu popsute łożysko, zły kolor, brak etykiety, rysa, pęknięcie.
Dodatkowo możemy odczytać numery identyfikacyjne oraz zautomatyzować procesy kontroli jakości, logistyczne lub uzyskać informację o aktualnej sytuacji w fabryce np. czy w trakcie produkcji papieru tzw. linia mokra nie przekroczyła krytyczne rozmiary, czy w danej strefie nie jest zagrożone bezpieczeństwo pracowników.
Podobne algorytmy znajdują zastosowanie także w innych branżach np. w hotelarskiej czy restauracyjnej. Tutaj kamery mogą przeanalizować produkty wybrane przez klientów i przyspieszyć proces kompletowania listy na rachunku. Dodatkowo mogą na bieżąco zliczać wolne miejsca, monitorować postęp konsumpcji i podpowiedzieć obsłudze komu sprzątnąć stolik lub w której strefie warto dopytać o uzupełnienie napojów.

AI in Manufacturing: moving AI from Idea to ExecutionbyteLAKE
#AI and #HPC convergence is here and is here to stay and accelerate innovations across industries. The increased availability of data, hardware advancements leading to increased computational capabilities, and new algorithms and mathematical models have collectively resulted in the accelerated AI expansion in all sorts of applications. This, however, creates high computational needs which naturally have been more and more successfully addressed by HPC (High-Performance Computing). In that sense, AI & HPC complement each other. HPC infrastructure is often used to train AI’s powerful algorithms by leveraging huge amounts of sample data (training set) and in that way enables AI models (trained algorithms) to recognize shapes, objects (machine vision), find answers hidden in the data (predictive maintenance, data analytics) or accelerate time to results (predict the outcome of complex engineering simulations).
We at byteLAKE have been closely working with Lenovo, Lenovo Infrastructure Solutions Group, Intel Corporation, NVIDIA and many more to ensure that our AI-powered products not only help our clients efficiently automate various operations and reduce time and cost but also are highly optimized and make the most of the hardware and software infrastructure where they are deployed. Besides our efforts in bringing AI solutions to the paper industry and manufacturing in general (which I described in my previous post), our efforts in bringing value thru AI in the chemical industry highly benefit from HPC's capabilities to dynamically scale and keep up with performance requirements. Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. 92. • Goal: Reducing the energy consumption of the MPDATA algorithm (algorithm for numerical simulation of
geophysical fluids flows on micro-to-planetary scales – especially used in a numerical weather prediction).
• Hardware: Piz Daint supercomputer (ranked 3-rd at top 500), equipped with the most advanced Pascal-based
GPUs: NVIDIA Tesla P100.
• Idea: Applying mixed precision arithmetic - set a part of operations to be performed in a single precision (32-bits)
and the remaining set to double (64-bits).
• Why do we use it? A single simulation of the weather phenomenon needed more than 1013
operations. We
suspected that not all of them needs double precision arithmetic to preserve the same simulation accuracy. We
believe that the control of the precision and accuracy of numerical results can increase the performance, decrease
the energy consumption, and provide highly accurate results.
• Solution: We used unsupervised learning to estimate the correlation between the precision of each matrix and
their influence on criteria (energy, accuracy of results). During the dynamic and short training stage we evaluated
the set of operations that could be performed in a single precision without loss in accuracy of the weather
simulation.

Results: We reduced energy by 33%, increased
performance by the factor of 1.27x using 25% less GPUs,
keeping the accuracy of the results at the same level
as when using double precision arithmetic.

dynamic mixed precision arithmetic that boosts performance further by factor of 1.32 (12 times from
initial state) and slashes the energy consumption by 34%.
2017 AI-based model to process time-series data
– Background: A factory in the US wanted to upgrade their predictive maintenance model utilizing
time-series data from various IoT sensors measuring filters’ delta pressure, humidity, dust level etc.
– Task: design a concept model that could perform an analytics on time-series data and point to the
most influencing parameters for a given phenomenon (i.e. filters clogging).
– Result: designed a feedback-loop-control model that incorporated several AI algorithms in order to
extrapolate given parameters based on their historic data and mechanical characteristics. First
concepts with the statistical simulations are currently in the trials.
