Retinal Vascular Imaging Essay
Abstract
Retinal vascular imaging is useful in detecting Microvasular abnormalities. It shows several predictors
of diseases and potential for understanding other markers that might fit into what happens when we
age, develop a disease or health issue. Retinal and cerebral microvasculature have common
physiological properties. They are highly similar metabolic active tissues, and are homologous in
structure. There are at least two viewing forms for retinal vasculature 2D and 3D . 2D being more flat
while 3D shows outlines, fuller imager quality and in depth structures of the retina. Retinal imaging
has been helpful in several diagnoses of health such as hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, obesity
and the effects of aging. Outlook for retinal vascular imaging looks good as it is being applied to new
ideas and concepts.
Introduction
Microvasular veins are some of the small veins in our body, referred to as vessels that form a network
between the arterioles and venules located in the retina and body. The micro vasculatures of the brain
and retina have common physiological properties, they both have high metabolic active tissues,
similar embryological origins and are homologous (Meier, M. H. et al, 2013). Both vascular networks
share similar vascular regulatory processes (Lassen, 1964; Hardy et al. 1997; Delaey Van de ... Show

Quite a number of health issues such retinal arteriolar narrowing has a strong correlation with
coronary artery occulusion, venular dilation used as a predictor of clinical stroke and cardiovascular
disease. (Liew, G.et al, 2008). Microvasular abnormalities that are viewed when using retinal vascular
imaging, can provide insight to our body, which we still only know very minimally about. There are
tons diseases and health issues that still have no warning signs or

South Africa And Its Effects On The West African Countries
The WHO hopes that the disease will subside in the remaining West African countries. There has been
significant progress in Liberia and some progress in Guinea. The WHO is concerned, despite this
progress, because they fear the international community will stop sending their support. Dr. Bruce
Aylward, the WHO assistant director general, told reporters that the virus can be stopped, but it will
take more work and support in order to do so (Cumming Bruce). This is one example of the WHO
communicating to the media, but more outreach to the public is needed.
Cause of Problem and Facts The decrease in number of new cases of Ebola caused the WHO to
become concerned that the international community would stop sending their support to West Africa.
Margaret Chan, the WHO director general, states that complacency will be our enemy, and we need to
continue to do more to get to zero (Schnirring). The three main countries affected still need support to
fully recover from the outbreak, and Mali, one of the newest affected countries, is still in need of
support as their numbers of new cases are still rising every day (Schnirring).
Significance to the Organization The organization is experiencing negative press as many believe that
they did not respond fast enough to the situation since it did not declare Ebola a public health
emergency until August, five months after the initial outbreak. If the WHO does not get the support
they need in order to stop the epidemic, they will suffer

Naga Mandali In Naga-Mandala
In Naga Mandala,Karnad has borrowed the main plot of the story of Rani from The Serpent Lover
which he had heard long ago from Professor A.K. Ramnujan (1992 1993). This tale was later collected
in A Flowering Tree and other Oral Tales from India, Published posthumously in 1997. The deviation
made in the play from original the folk tale can be traced thus:
Rani in the play is depicted as a young and beautiful girl, whereas in the folk tale Kamakshi is a girl
who is very patient. In the play the old lady named as Kurudavva, who is blind, offers two pieces of
magical roots to Rani. She pays a visit to Rani s house by taking the help of her son, whereas the old
woman of the folk tale lives next to Rani s house and is not described as a blind woman. In the
original tale, Kamakshi is not much concerned about her husband going to a concubine, she leaves
everything on the will of God. She says, let them be happy with anyone he wants , so long he accepts
her as his wife. In the play Rani feel like Kamakshi only when the magical potion turns red.
There is another major change in the play: In the play the snake only comes at night through the
bathroom drainage. This adds horror in the mind of the spectator, whereas in the myth the snake
approaches directly from the front door of Kamakshi s house by transforming himself as her husband
with exactly the same voice and physical appearance. It is also noticed that the pregnancy of
Kamakshi is first observed and

Taking a Look at Flu H5N1
################################################# Part 2
################################### There are multiple different sources for epidemiological
measures used for tracking and reporting the number of cases. There are websites where you can go to
post confirmed cases in areas, where that information is then taken and calculated. There are also
places that provide charts for the amount of confirmed outbreaks and then separates them from human
cases and avian cases. But the best types of reports available are the map tracking ones. Where they
give distinction marks for avian and human cases and all over the different areas of the world. This is
very handy for seeing how bad and large an outbreak is and what species is affected, whether it is
humans or birds. The incidence rate is a measure of morbidity and number of infected worldwide,
looking over the past 10 years. Over the past ten years there have 650 infected.(Yu Chan, 2014). This
is not a large number because of the fact it is not spread through human to human contact but through
already infected poultry. The prevalence rate is the number of current/existing cases worldwide. The
United States has yet to have a confirmed outbreak because we set such high regulations on the meat
we sell in our markets, thus preventing a large outbreak from hitting our country. The mortality rate is
the number of deaths caused by the H5N1 virus worldwide. For

Effects Of Neoliberalism
On February 17th I joined The Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP) in their march to City hall
in protest for their immediate goal of more warming centers and shelters. Of no coincidence the date
of the march fell strategically on the same day that Toronto chambers would be deciding on the Cities
budget. Preceding the march, OCAP members, and supporters gathered at the corner of Queen and
Sherbourne (the North East corner of Moss Park) and huddled around speakers rally cries for
homeless justice before heading west along Queen street towards city hall. The energy of march was
well organized, and no unrest ensued, chants demanding immediate action to open more shelters
reverberated through the crowd as we marched on. During the march I ... Show more content on

So, although many theorists hold that public space is absolutely essential for the function of
democratic politics it is interesting to contemplate whether or not public protest is the proper venue for
the homeless, and if not public protest than what avenue may be used by the homeless to create
socioeconomic change (Ruppert, 2006). Occupy Wall Street (OWS), a movement ignited throughout
the globe in 2011 is arguably a protest movement that successfully captured the public s attention and
was a protest on behalf of the 99%, that not only included homeless people but was made up by
unemployed in dept college graduates, workers struggling with illness, immigrants supporting
families, and those who encompass the struggling middle class. OWS was an incredible movement
that enthused people with homes to live outside of their homes and with homeless people , bringing
together the most marginalized within society and the middle class together (Kohn, 2013, p. 106).
OWS is an example in which poverty and the homeless agenda was taken seriously as it successful
was incorporated amongst other agendas. Unfortunately, this is a sad predicament, as it is an example
illuminating that homelessness on its own will not be

Essay on Hypochondriasis as A Mental Disorder
Hypochondriasis as A Mental Disorder
Headache = Tumor. Cough = Tuberculosis. Mole = Skin Cancer. Such is the thought process of a
hypochodriac. As defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual IV (DSM IV), hypochondriasis is
an unrealistic interpretation of one s bodily sensations as abnormal, leading to the fear and belief that
one has a serious disease (1). This preoccupation with having a serious medical condition is one of the
somatoform disorders and may be considered more as a symptom than a disease. In fact,
hypochondriacal symptoms often appear as a part of other mental disorders, including forms of
depression or schizophrenia (2). For this reason, a close investigation of hypochondriacal behavior is
necessary to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With numbers such as these, the issue of understanding more about these symptoms has become
important within the medical world. These pursuits have resulted in four etiologic theories regarding
hypochondriasis, a combination of which could hold the answers to this disorder.
The first of these theories relates to the amplification of normal bodily sensations, or when individuals
...attribute pathologic meanings to normal somatic sensations and functions. An example of this would
be to attribute swollen lymph nodes to a malignant disease, as opposed to a simple viral infection. The
consequences mostly affect the individual s psychological and behavioral well being, which leads to
the focus of the second theory. Based on Freud s psychodynamic hypotheses, there is a belief that
unconscious conflicts are the result of traumatic or frustrating childhood experiences being
reawakened in adult life by similar stress or frustration. Consequently, particularly high stress/tension
situations could arouse subconscious feelings of guilt, anxiety, and fear for a person, and their inability
to express these emotions verbally may lead to physical manifestations of conflict.
The remaining two theories take a more behavioral oriented approach. The third

Role of Identity in Mary Shelleys Frankenstein Essays
In past and present, society has always put an emphasis on external appearance as opposed to inner
personality. As a result, social classes are formed, such as upper and lower, wherein members of each
class must uphold the norms defined by the prestige of the class. Upper classes are deemed to be
perfect, as they contain the wealthy and the beautiful. This class distinction is heightened in Gothic
literature where emotions and the persona of the characters are externalized. Emotions are literalized
as characters, supernatural phenomena, and the protagonist and antagonist roles.
Victor Frankenstein s upbringing in a perfect society ultimately led to the destruction of his life which
coincided with the lives of those emotionally close to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He experienced the burden of loneliness by living in a superficial society and did not have the
character to cope with it. For Victor, parenting had become an issue of possession, ownership and self
exaggeration.
The issue of parenting soon became an obsession with power. This need of power led Victor to create
what he believed would be a beautiful human being. But he failed to see that combining the most
beautiful human features does not necessarily create a beautiful human being. He was inspired by
scientists who ...acquired new and almost limitless powers... (Shelley, Frankenstein, P. 47). Victor
sought this unlimited power to the extent of taking the role of God. He not only penetrated nature, but
also he assumed power of reproduction in a maniacal desire to harness these modes of reproduction in
order to become acknowledged, respected, and obeyed as a father. While bringing his creation into the
world he was himself alienated from society, and isolated himself from the community. Isolation and
parental neglect cause viciousness within man. Because of his upbringing, Victor had no sense of
empathy, and therefore could not realize the potential harm he was creating towards himself and his
creation. The sole purpose of his project was an attempt to gain power, but instead of power Victor
realized that a morally irresponsible

project brief to a certain stage. This perspective hinders the interaction between the client and the
designer and impedes exploiting value opportunities and managing risk threats caused by brief
development drivers. In order to overcome the limitations of the current briefing approaches, the
Dynamic Brief Development (DBD) concept was developed. This concept supports and encourages
brief development throughout the project life cycle as an approach to achieve client satisfaction and
respond in an innovative manner to the brief development drivers, improve the briefing process, and to
manage change orders effectively [6].
Permitting brief development to take place without establishing the procedures that control its
development leaves the project brief uncontrolled and jeopardise achieving client s satisfaction.
Because brief development can add value or risk to the project or could add both, the well established
methodologies of Value Management (VM) and Risk Management
(RM) are the most appropriate tools to manage dynamic brief development. Since better value could
not be achieved unless associated risks have been managed, both methodologies

Girls And 10 Things I Hate About You
Life as a teenager is arguably the most confusing, difficult, and stressful time in a person s life. There
is a great amount of expectations and insecurities placed on teens that hinder them from being active
participants in the world. They must undergo all of the changes of young adult life to develop into
successful members of society. In the 1990 s and the 2000 s, two separate films were released that
depict the cultural norms, social expectations, and developments of teenagers at that period of time.
Those two films, Mean Girls and 10 Things I Hate About You, successfully illuminate the motives and
characterizations of young adult life and the troubles and tribulations that come along with it. 10
Things I Hate About You is a film about teenagers growing up in Seattle in the 1990 s. The music,
clothing, and slang presented in the movie all emulate the time period in which it was released. The
movie itself is based off of the play by William Shakespeare, The Taming of the Shrew. Senior, Kat
Stratford, portrays an angsty teenager, degrading any and all typical high school experiences. Her
sister Bianca, on the other hand, is well liked and well desired by two boys in school. She emulates the
typical teen girl, obsessed with fashion, boys, and popularity. As per their father s rules, Bianca cannot
date until uninterested Kat does. Patrick Verona, the mysterious bad boy of school, is approached by
the popular Joey Donner as he offers to pay Verona to take out

Compare And Contrast Japan And United States
Have you ever wondered about other countries outside of the United States? Have you thought about
how different their foods, religions, and languages are from yours? There are many countries that are
very different from the United States, especially Japan. Japan is only a short 6,000 miles away from
the United States, but have strikingly different foods, religions, and languages. Now then, let s see
how much different the United States is from Japan. You know that chicken ramen in your cabinet,
wrapped in the plastic covering? The japanese are laughing at the United States pathic attempt to
recreate one of the best known dishes in Japan. The Japanese also enjoy eating sushi, rice, curry, green
tea, tofu, etc. Most of these dishes are served across Japan and are eaten almost daily. Also, Japan is
well known for their slow cooked, well spiced, and very rich foods cooked to perfection. If you think

In Japan, most of the population practice Shinto or Buddhism. Something I found interesting was that
religion isn t such a big part of daily life in Japan while, most americans are more involved in religion
throughout the day. Shinto is from the eighth century and is the worship of the ancestors, natural
spirits, and the belief in the power of Kami in both living and nonliving things. Buddhism is the belief
that life is full of suffering and the way to end suffering is to enable one to stop the endless births and
deaths to which one is otherwise subject to.Even though Christianity, Islam, and Judaism aren t as

Comparison Of Pygmalion And My Fair Lady
The 1964 award winning film My Fair Lady is a musical adaptation of George Bernard Shaw s stage
production Pygmalion (first performed in the year of 1913). Taking place in Edwardian London, My
Fair Lady depicts Professor Henry Higgins (portrayed by Rex Harrison), a misogynistic phonetics
professor, and Colonel Hugh Pickering (Wilfrid Hyde White), the author of Spoken Sanskrit.
Professor Higgins, after coming out of a theatre and hearing Eliza shouting in her harsh Cockney
accent, places a bet with Colonel Pickering that he can take the Cockney working class girl and make
her presentable in high society within six months. The working class girl, Eliza Doolittle (portrayed by
Audrey Hepburn), agrees to speech lessons from Professor Higgins to improve her job prospects.
Eliza grudgingly agrees to Professor Higgins lessons after flying into an angry outburst when a man
points out the professor copying down her speech. Despite Professor Higgins treats Eliza as a lesser
being, his acquaintance Colonel Pickering treats her with constant respect and kindness, therefore
treating her as an equal. It is Pickering s treating Eliza not as a lesser being, but as an equal that allows
Eliza to flourish and succeed. In the film adaptation of Bernard Shaw s Pygmalion, the most
influential character is Colonel Pickering. As a gentleman, a colonel and an academic who studies
Indian dialects, Pickering shares Higgins interest in linguistics, however he is not as extreme in his

Tyrosinase Lab
Results and Discussion
The natural occurrence of tyrosinase within Agaricus bisporus makes it an incredibly viable resource
in both the food and drug industries. However, the likelihood that tyrosinase is evenly distributed
throughout the mushroom is very slim. In order to determine which specific tissues contained the
greatest concentration of Tyrosinase it became necessary to investigate the localization of within the
white button mushroom.
In order to observe the presence of tyrosinase within the various sections Agaricus bisporus it was
necessary to separate samples into specified regions. Below in Figure 1 is a diagram outlining the
different components that were observed. The protein concentration within each of these sections was

This trend can be rationalized when considering the placement of these sections on the mushroom
(Figure 1). C2 is the outer most part of the mushroom s cap so it receives a greater amount of exposure
compared to other sections like S2. Exposure is crucial in the functions of tyrosinase because
tyrosinase needs to be in the presence of molecular oxygen to undergo its reactions. However, one
discrepancy that arises from this theory is the specific activity of the skin (K1). The skin is the most
exposed portion so one would expect it to have the greatest specific activity. While it does have a
relatively high specific activity value it is easily overshadowed by the specific activity of C2. This
raises the question of whether the data collected for the latent C2 samples is

Genetic Modification ( Gm )
Genetic modification (GM) is the use of modern biotechnology techniques to change the genes of an
organism such as plants or animals. No one is permitted to deal with a genetically modified organism
(GMO) in Australia unless the Australian Gene Technology Regulator has determined that the GMO is
safe to human health and the surrounding environment. As the world s population continues to
increase and is expected to double within the next few years, the world s demand for food and fibre
has increased drastically. GM foods and fibres seem to be the only means for a solution to provide for
the high demand in which we now face. (Agric.wa.gov.au, 2014) Many foods in Australia contain
GMO s including Cereals, non organic dairy products, papayas, bread, rice, potatoes, corn and many
more. Genetic modification of foods and fibres includes inserting genes from one organism into
another. The purpose of this is to modify the genetic code in animals and plants to make them resistant
to pests or farming techniques such as being soaked with chemicals that would normally kill them or
even just to make the plants and animals more productive. (Leigh Erin Connealy, 2013) If an organism
is genetically modified it can be breed or crossed with another organism whether it s GM or non GM.
Reproduction techniques such as cloning which is done through asexual reproduction or selective
breeding and hybrids can be used to breed the genetic modification from the parents into the offspring

The Theme Of Marigolds InMarigolds, By Virginia Hurst
Guilt is like a sickness. If you don t get medicine, no matter how much you wait it out, the sickness is
staying with you. No matter how much time passes, if you don t deal with your guilt, it will stick with
you and never go away. The main character in Marigolds by Eugenia Collier ruins an elderly woman s
beautiful marigolds because of her own issues. The main character in The Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst
leaves his handicapped brother alone in the woods and comes back to find that he s dead. Lastly, the
main character in The Cat s In The Cradle never takes part in his son s childhood and comes to realize
his boy is just like him when he gets older. These three pieces all show a coexisting theme of how
guilt sticks around forever if you don t deal with it.
Marigolds by Eugenia W. Collier perfectly demonstrates how guilt sticks around no matter how much
time has passed if you don t deal with it. In the story, the main character Lizabeth gets very angry and
destroys an elderly woman named Miss. Lottie s marigolds she had planted in her yard. Before this,
Lizabeth overheard her parents fighting and crying about their dire situation, something she had never
seen her strong, determined parents do before. Lizabeth took her anger out on Miss. Lottie and her
marigolds, she basically ripped the whole garden to shreds. The guilt from doing this has stuck with
her over the years. For example, as the author clearly states, Yet, there are times when the image of
those passionate

Maxis Gross Profit The graph indicates the gross profit of Maxis was unstable and fluctuated wildly
from 2011 to 2014. Gross profit dropped minimally by 1.26% from 2011 to 2012. The reasons why
gross profit dropped in 2012 were the stiff price competition and the emergence of over the top (OTT)
players. OTT players provided alternative communication access (Maxis Berhad, 2012, p.17). From
2012 to 2013, it increased slightly which was from RM5.96bil to RM5.99bil. It may due to the

Analysis Of The Second Coming By William Butler Yeats
n the Poem The Second Coming from William Butler Yeats is about revolutions, (John 2.18). When
Yeats wrote The Second Coming the world around him was filled with violence and turmoil. Due to
WWI had just ended, The Russian Revolutions had started, and The Angelo Irish War was
approaching. That left Yeats trying to come to terms with the end of an age and the changing future of
the 20th Century. For Yeats, the future of the world was in chaos and this left Yeats struggling to
understand his own personal beliefs in religion. This is seen throughout The Second Coming. For the
poem The Second Coming Yeats uses a narrator, for his writing in The Second Coming he used a new
form of writing for the time called automatic writing, this form of writing left Yeats looking down
different paths of religion and mysticism and more into the world of the supernatural. This new form
of writing is where Yeats could dictate spirits that would take over his writing. In The Second Coming
he uses an elegant syntax and uses different words such as the word Spiritus Mundi in Latin instead of
saying the Anti Christ and Bethlehem in the meaning of Christ s birthplace. Yeats continues his search
for religion throughout the poem in The Second Coming by using a pose sonnet, he liked to break up
the coherence of his sonnets and write them to be rugged, colloquial, and to have concrete language,
and he liked to rhyme, and often off rhymed for example, in The Second Coming the sun and the man
are the only words that rhyme, he also uses linear writing and short sentences. Yeats continues in his
search for religion in The Second Coming from the genre, to the patterns, that even follow the
symbolism of the poem. Yeats uses the genre that is Poetry and uses several patterns where he writes
about the world being in trouble and the 20th Century is asleep and where the earth is being
transformed into a desert, where darkness of black shadows are taking over the earth and a beast is
rising, he explains this in many ways throughout The Second Coming . Yeats also talks and relates
back throughout the whole poem in talking about the falcon circling as the same as the gyre circling.
As symbolism throughout The Second Coming Yeats

of families including, single parent families, adoption, and same sex parents, to name a few. It also
introduced different ways families live, work, go to school, and celebrate special occasions. I was

William Crookes Essay
A man by the name of William Crookes was one of the main contributors to the new fields of physics
and chemistry that emerged in the late 19th century. Crookes analysis of the photographic process in
the 1850s inspired his work in the science of spectroscopy. Using techniques of spectroscopy Crookes
discovered the element thallium. His efforts in discovering the weight of thallium in an evacuated
chamber led to his research in vacuum physics.
When Crookes was sixteen he entered the Royal College of Chemistry. He studied under August
Wilhelm von Hofmann as an assistant in 1851. A few years later while attending a meeting at the
Royal Institution, Crookes met the physicist Michael Faraday, who convinced him to switch his

Holding Out For a Hero
I was really super excited for this trip, words can t explain. I was planning on coming to Cali soon, but
I had to raise money. This trip is all free. I get to go to San Diego, California. Wow. I had just finished
zipping my suitcase when I heard the car horn. The Jacks are here! I smiled widely already getting
butterflies about everything and ran down with my stuff. It was a struggle, but never stop an ambitious
girl who is about to fly to San Diego. I opened my front door and motioned for one of them to get out
of the car and come help with my bags. I only had one suitcase but it was heavy. I grabbed my carry
on and jogged to the car as Johnson grabbed my suitcase. I made sure that my phone and laptop were
fully charged once we were on our way. I reached into my bag and looked for my books making sure I
had brought them. What else am I supposed to do on the plane?
San Diego is going to be sweet! We re meeting the guys up at the beach after we get there, Johnson
exclaimed and pumped his fist. I giggled at his personality and nodded. I ve always wanted to go to
the beach.
I m so excited guys, you have no idea! I shook my hands, a little habit I do since I was little. My mom
used to tell me to shake off all the nerves, so I d shake my hands, I m so excited for the beach. The
sun, the sand, the water, the bikinis, and the hot guys.
Agh! Gilinsky looked genuinely hurt, The only hot guys you should be focused on there are me and

Communist Economy
Communism is considered to be a further step beyond Marxism. It is considered to be a society which
is classless. The wealth is redistributed so that the control of the wealth does not lie only in the hands
of the rich people. The privately owned businesses are converted into state property which then
functions for the benefit of all the people of the state rather than an elite group of people. As the name
implies, it is a form of government for the entire community. Communism upholds the idea that the
basic needs of society should be provided to all, irrespective of any class differences. It also promotes
the fact that every worker should be rewarded for all his work and hold a share in the profits.
Communism is broadly defined as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The other matters that are highly criticized within a communist economy are the facts that these
economies face several issues such as shortage of goods such as products of basic necessities, other
class/creed issues, etc. All these problems and issues lead to an increase in the economic problems of
the communist country. The economic problems of the country can be increased because of the short
comings related to communism. In communism the governments try to create a classless society
regardless of the special talents that people are provided with. It is because of this reason that a
communist government faces problems when appointing officers to specific positions. Moreover if
these positions are not held by people who have the right talent then the government can fail and this
can create problems for the whole country. Moreover, the wages that workers have to be paid depend
on the government itself and this creates a problem again. The people are only paid at a subsistence
level and hence they can only fulfill their basic needs such as food and shelter. When the question of
personal interest comes, the governments cannot fulfill these interests of people. It is because of this
very reason

Washing A Car Analysis
Every Sunday morning until the weather drops below freezing and my parents do not let me use the
hose, I wash my car. This may seem like an ordinary job to some, but to me washing a car requires a
distinctive technique. No matter how tired I am, every Sunday morning I wake up, brush my teeth, put
on my blue sweatpants and red sweatshirt, grab the keys to the car, and head out into the driveway.
Not even the puppy follows me outside; he likes to sleep till eleven o clock on Sundays. I pull the car
out into the driveway and position it just right so that the morning sun is blocked by the thick leaves
and branches of the tall maple, and so I can easily walk around the back end. I then attach the longest

Zora Neale Hurston Sweat
The story Sweat by Zora Neale Hurston tells the story of Delia who overcame her abusive husband,
Sykes through her development of becoming a strong woman. The development of Delia s character
throughout the story relates to Zora Neale Hurston s life of growing up into a strong, empowered
woman. Delia and Zora were both verbally and physically abused which made them afraid and timid.
Zora made her characters talk in a dialect that she grew up listening to which was uncommon to do in
literature. Delia and Zora both had to provide for themselves by putting in the effort remain stable and
happy. They also stood up for what they believed in which started their development into strong
women. Delia had to let her husband die in order to gain independence, while Zora had to move away
from home in order to be successful in her future which developed them both develop into
independent women. They became stronger because of these things which empowered them to take
back control of their lives. The snake is a symbol in the story that represents the evil that was
overcome by the good. This story can now be better analyzed when looking at the life of Delia which
connects to Zora Neale Hurston s life. Delia was physically abused many times by her husband,
Sykes. He was also mentally and verbally abusive to her by calling her names and constantly teasing
her. This can be seen when he pretends to scare Delia with a snake, and then calls her names for being
scared. In Zora s life, this is seen where she also grew up as an abused child from her father. Her
father did not like her very much because her sassy attitude. He said that she was too spirited and too
mouthy for her own good which hurt her feelings and made her very aware that she was not his
favorite child in the family (Boyd 27). Her father would also physically abuse her by threatening and
spanking her as a child. In the story, Sykes represents Zora s father because they were both abusive
towards women. Zora included this detail in her story to explain her life as a child. The story is put in
the perspective of a grown woman who had been abused, but how she would feel the same pain a
child would feel who had been abused. No matter the person s age, anyone

The Engineered Wetland System ( Epa )
The engineered wetland system are often described as the kidneys of the earth according to the United
States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) due to its role in filtration of toxic waste that flows
into another body of water. The wetland treatment system uses the surrounding vegetation, soil as well
as microbial life for the improvement of water quality. These systems are meant to provide and
increase water quality for the surrounding ecosystem as well as for humans. Wetland system whether
or not they are natural or constructed requires the presence of surface water. When water flows
through the wetland, the solids are trapped by the vegetation and establish themselves with the
vegetation. Pollutants are transformed to less soluble form and are either absorbed by surrounding
plants or becomes dormant. The wetland plants also provide the necessary conditions that allow for
microorganisms to thrive on. Through a complicated development these microbes are transformed and
aids in the removal of additional pollutants. During stormwater runoffs often carry with it fertilizers or
waste from leaking septic fields that have the proper nutrients for plants and microorganism s uptake.
These nutrients contain organic chemical such as phosphorus and nitrogen that are converted by the
microbes into inorganic forms as nitrate and ammonium, which then can be digested. This allows for
the plants and microbes to thrive in the wetlands together forming a symbiotic

Feet By Seamus Deane Summary
Feet, September 1948 from Reading in the Dark (1996) by Seamus Deane
Feet , an extract from Reading in the Dark by Seamus Deane, depicts the death of a young girl, Una,
from the perspective of her unnamed older brother. It focuses upon the narrator s observations, of both
his sister and the adults around him, as well as the emotions and reactions of the narrator.
Throughout the extract, Deane crafts an atmosphere of intimacy, and innocence, through his word
choice and use of perspective. By choosing to write from the first person perspective, Deane allows
the reader to feel more connected with the narrator s thoughts and feelings, as the emotions being
depicted are raw and unfiltered, amplifying their emotional impact upon the reader. Furthermore, the
first person narrative allows Deane to modify his diction for effect, simplifying it through his
repetition of the pronoun I to create an innocent, childlike tone. Another technique employed to create
this atmosphere is Deane s utilisation of simple adjectives such as redness , glossy , shiny , fright and
huge when describing objects. This limited vocabulary illustrates the youth of the narrator, extending
this idea of innocence.
This idea of innocence feeds into a major theme of the extract, the narrator s inability to grapple with
the illness and impending death of his sister. Deane illustrates this effectively through the narrator s
location within the scene. He has taken refuge under the table, hidden by a

Elderly patients
To minimize adverse effects associated with benzodiazepines (e.g. over sedation, confusion, and

recommended to use half the dose of the benzodiazepine.
Patients with liver failure
The metabolism of Diazepam is impaired in liver disease, but it may be used cautiously in mild to
moderate impairment (reduce the dose by 50%).
For patients with severe or acute liver impairment, use lorazepam as an alternative as its metabolism is
not impaired in liver disease.

Ergot Poisoning And The Salem Witch Trials
We ve all heard the stories of the Salem Witch Trials that occurred in 1692 and 1693. During these
harsh times, lives were lost due to the strong religious beliefs of the Puritans who full heartedly
believed that the Devil was present in everyday life and that he lived in the woods. In contrast to their
popular belief at the time, real scientific evidence has been presented that the reason behind the Salem
Witch Trials was actually Ergot Poisoning, not the Devil. According to the article, ergot is a fungus,
that affects the rye grain, (PBS 2016), which causes numerous side effects. Many factors contribute to
the ergot poisoning idea, such as the climate and growing conditions that ergot thrives in, what wheat
rye was infected in relation to where the accused and accusers lived as well as the time span, and the
symptoms of this type of poisoning.
A crucial piece of evidence to the ergot theory is the growing circumstances ergot requires and why
grain the people of Salem grew could have so easily circumed to it. For starters, the main crop grown
in Salem at this time was rye. This grain is so easily taken over by ergotism, because when wet
periods occur the flowers on the rye grain stay open longer, which allows ergot a longer period of time
to affect the grain than in most cases. In addition, in order for the ergot to grow on the grain, the crop
has to be in a , warm, damp, swampy place, (Anna 2012). Throughout the spring and summer months

Patients With Newly Diagnosed Hypothyroidism And Their...
Patient education. FNP needs to educate patients with newly diagnosed hypothyroidism and their
caregiver if necessary in regards to its disease process, side effect of medications, importance of
compliance and follow up. Hypothyroidism is often a lifelong condition and therefore it is important
to counsel the patient at the point of diagnosis (Roe, 2015). Taking L thyroxine is the main treatment
mechanism; therefore, medication compliance is the one of the most important part in education. The
clinical effect of L thyroxine may include normalizing abnormalities associated with hypothyroidism.
Optimal treatment of hypothyroidism may lead to improvement of various symptoms. In
neuropsychological aspect, patients may show improved motor skills, myopathy and depression. With
treatment, patient s overall energy level may enhance constipation symptoms may improve and weight
problem may lessen if thyroid balance was a main contributor. It has been shown that treatment of
hypothyroidism would also improve lipid profiles in patients (Roe, 2015).
Longstanding hypothyroidism is accompanied by impaired function of nearly all organs and tissues,
and the clinical response to replacement therapy may continue for months. Normally, L thyroxine
administration improves clinical symptoms associated with hypothyroidism without adverse effects.

As
Rose begins to understand Jack has died, there is very little extra diegetic sound. A gentle chiming can
be heard which gives the scene a sense of the mystical. The calls of the rescue boat become muffled

throughout the film. This particular version of James Horner s theme is more bare than its other

Why Do Immigrants Take American Jobs

The catch is, the jobs that are available aren t always the most highest paid jobs that people want to
do. It s certainly not enough to support families, but immigrants and some poor Americans will still

the low wages. But even if population continues to grow, it s not guaranteed that job s will continue to

communities stagnant. The more support that goes into the global businesses, leads local businesses to

The Importance Of Freedom In American History
The country of America is built on the idea of freedom. Early colonists fought a war to gain freedom
from Britain, and once they won, made sure to give their newly earned rights to America s citizens.
Everything else in American History has been based off of this idea, such as when the Civil War was
fought over the controversy of slaves freedom. Elena s experiences in American History by Judith
Ortiz Cofer reflect all of the freedoms that American citizens get. As a result of her family s
immigration to the U.S., Elena benefits from freedoms that were established by the founding of
America. The Constitution gives people the rights to free speech and religion, and because of these
rights, she gets to interact with people of different cultures and beliefs than her own by going to public
school. She claims that she was going to college and become a teacher (296), which shows that in
America she has the freedom to be who she wants to be. Additionally, she is allowed to make many
decisions for herself, such as something as simple as trying to be friends with Eugene, a white
neighbor, or something as big as having a say in how the country is run when she is old enough,
through America s democracy. Because she is in America, she is not forced to work. In a lot of other
countries, children are made to do hard labor, but in America, Elena is allowed to be a kid and play.
All of these freedoms attract people to the U.S, and Elena s family moved to America because they

Success of the Ancient Roman Empire Essay
Between approximately 509 BCE and the third century CE the Roman empire continually expanded
and became one of the largest in history. While this expansion was due to many reasons, not the least
of which was greed, to a great extent it was made possible because of Rome s overwhelming military
and its combination of a democratic and republic government. (Lee) (Ferril)
Many of Rome s successes were due to its highly trained and disciplined army. Rome s army became
the best in the known world. The Roman army was organized into divisions of soldiers according to
their social class. The ranks of the army could be divided into five classes. The first class were those
who were the most well off, they were equipped with the best weapons, ... Show more content on

Some examples of these would include The Battering Ram, The Turris, and The Ballista. The Roman
army was also very willing to incorporate the war tactics and the weapons of their defeated enemies if
they were deemed beneficial. (Alchin) These improvements provided the Roman army advantages in
battle. The Roman generals that were picked to lead the army were highly skilled in the art of war.
They were masters of attack and counterattacks, the use of mounted and unmounted calvary as well as
archery. As a result of the Roman army s successful tactics, Rome therefore was able to achieve
massive amounts of territory and assemble a substantial empire. (Cavazzi)
As Rome expanded throughout Europe and acquired a growing number of citizens, the army was able
to greatly increase its numbers. This ensured Rome a nearly unlimited supply of new soldiers.
As Rome conquered communities, more and more people were becoming Romanized, and noticed as
Roman citizens. Of course these new citizens were expected to pay taxes, allowing the empire to grow
economically as well as militarily. During the Roman rule of Augustus, Caesar and Trajan, Rome s
laws were continually improved making Rome ever more powerful and ethical. (Ferril)
Throughout the rise and fall of the Roman empire, the government was a combination of a democracy
and republic. Starting with Romulus, Rome was first ruled by a series of seven kings until 509 BCE
when Rome constructed itself a Republic til

The Meaning Of Discipline In School
Discipline means follow rules to be worked hard by someone in the interest of teaching something to
the student. Discipline is taught in many places in many ways. I was taught discipline at a school that
studied the art of taekwondo. This school helped me with my shyness and confidence problem.
Without Euns Martial Arts Center I would not be the person I am today. My first year of taekwondo
taught me the meaning of discipline. Joining this school was one the best decisions I ever made.
I can never forget the day I decided this was the thing I wanted to do. It was a sunny day and my dad
and I were wondering around Knoxville when we came upon EMAC. My dad had decided that I
needed something to help me with my lack of confidence so we walked through that door. I was
amazed as we sat there and watched the class. There were colorful belts and at the end they fought
each other with pads on their legs and arms. After they bowed and shook hands with the teacher and
his assistants. He walked over to where we were sitting.
Welcome! he said with a Korean accent. My dad introduced himself and I did the same. Then we
followed him to a room in the back of what looked like a padded room where the class had just
practiced. I didn t know it then it said OFFICE. I was amazed by the Korean artifacts. He and my dad
talked like what seemed like an hour. Then I tried on uniforms they were white and felt like itchy
paper on my skin ,but it fit. We then said good bye to the teacher and went on

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower Coming Of Age Analysis
The Realization of Passivity Where should I go? asked Alice. That depends on where you want to end
up responded The Cheshire Cat. (Carroll Lewis) The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen
Chbosky is a phenomenal coming of age novel that depicts how Charlie, the introverted protagonist,
develops a new understanding of life. Set in the early 1990s, Charlie narrates his freshmen year of
high school experience through an anonymous series of letters to a stranger. He begins the novel
isolated by his peers and feeling lonely until he is befriended by Sam and Patrick, two seniors who
encourage Charlie to experience new things and life live to its fullest. Charlie is considered to be a
wallflower, which is someone who, because of shyness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first symbol is revealed when Sam is speaking to Charlie to truly participate about how it s not
enough to have friends or just be there but that, Charlie really needs to engage with his friends. It s
great that you can listen and be a shoulder to someone, but what about when somebody doesn t need a
shoulder? What if they need arms or something like that? You can t just sit there and put everybody s
lives ahead of yours and think that counts as love. You just can t. You have to do things (Chbosky
200). In other words, Sam uses a shoulder to represent Charlie s passivity and wallflower status. The
shoulder symbolizes his inaction, a stationary anatomy to be leaned on. It symbolizes how Charlie
listens and is always there for his friends but the arm symbolizes how Charlie needs to put himself out
there; give his opinions, speak up and challenge others, be a man of action, be the arms . It
demonstrates how he emotionally grew to become a shoulder but also how he needs to continue to
grow. Undoubtedly, Charlie has become someone who participates in life. This is demonstrated in
Charlie s final letter when he describes his ride through the Fort Pitt tunnel with Sam and Patrick.
Instead of overanalyzing his drive through the tunnel as he did the previous times, Charlie allows

Pros And Cons Of Oil Sand

Dear Mr. Thompson:
I have watched the YouTube video called The Oil Sands Industry and Canada s Future . I have several
concerns regarding some of the statements that you and a few others made during the video. I believe
that when it comes to oil sands, there are a lot more negatives than positives that come with them.
All oil sand companies are supposed to reclaim lands that have been disturbed due to oil sand
operations to their natural state. 10% of the land that has been used by oil sand companies has been
reclaimed to their natural state since 1967. That means that the other 90% of the land has not been
returned to its natural state. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I hope that we will be able to improve the situation regarding the oil sands.

Moral Hierarchy In Antigone
There are many different moral levels that people have. People use reasoning that can be identified
with a particular stage on Kohlberg s moral development hierarchy. The higher stages of morality are
not usually achieved, according to Kohlberg. In a play called Antigone, one character, name Antigone,
has a high level of morality. In Antigone, written by Sophocles, he conveys various moral hierarchy
stages through character traits, reasoning, and moral development within this character Antigone is
portrayed as being morally straight and obedient to higher standards. She has a high moral standard.
For example, she argues to Ismene, He s my brother and yours too; and whether you will or not, I ll
stand by him. (Sophocles, ll 52 53). This is showing that she is very dedicated to her family. She will

Ethos is a type of reasoning that uses ethics. In this case, she says, I will stay with him, my brother;
and my crime will be devotion. (Sophocles, ll 89 90). Basically Antigone feels that serving her brother
is more important than obeying the law. This is showing that she places higher importance on moral
ethics than human laws. In another instance, Antigone states, Haven t you heard? Don t you see hatred
marches on love when friends, our own people, our family are treated as enemies? (Sophocles, ll 12
15). In short, she is saying that hatred is ruining her love for her brother in that Kreon is treating
Polyneices like an enemy by not giving him a proper burial. This goes against Antigone s views which
are that her brother deserves a burial regardless of what he did in his lifetime. This reasoning tells us
that Antigone has high levels of morality her standards prove her maturity. This type of reasoning puts
her at the fifth stage of Kohlberg s moral development hierarchy, which is social contract and
individual rights. Antigone has proven to be at a very high moral state throughout this

  • 2. Retinal Vascular Imaging Essay Abstract Retinal vascular imaging is useful in detecting Microvasular abnormalities. It shows several predictors of diseases and potential for understanding other markers that might fit into what happens when we age, develop a disease or health issue. Retinal and cerebral microvasculature have common physiological properties. They are highly similar metabolic active tissues, and are homologous in structure. There are at least two viewing forms for retinal vasculature 2D and 3D . 2D being more flat while 3D shows outlines, fuller imager quality and in depth structures of the retina. Retinal imaging has been helpful in several diagnoses of health such as hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, obesity and the effects of aging. Outlook for retinal vascular imaging looks good as it is being applied to new ideas and concepts. Introduction Microvasular veins are some of the small veins in our body, referred to as vessels that form a network between the arterioles and venules located in the retina and body. The micro vasculatures of the brain and retina have common physiological properties, they both have high metabolic active tissues, similar embryological origins and are homologous (Meier, M. • 3. South Africa And Its Effects On The West African Countries The WHO hopes that the disease will subside in the remaining West African countries. There has been significant progress in Liberia and some progress in Guinea. The WHO is concerned, despite this progress, because they fear the international community will stop sending their support. Dr. Bruce Aylward, the WHO assistant director general, told reporters that the virus can be stopped, but it will take more work and support in order to do so (Cumming Bruce). This is one example of the WHO communicating to the media, but more outreach to the public is needed. Cause of Problem and Facts The decrease in number of new cases of Ebola caused the WHO to become concerned that the international community would stop sending their support to West Africa. Margaret Chan, the WHO director general, states that complacency will be our enemy, and we need to continue to do more to get to zero (Schnirring). The three main countries affected still need support to fully recover from the outbreak, and Mali, one of the newest affected countries, is still in need of support as their numbers of new cases are still rising every day (Schnirring). Significance to the Organization The organization is experiencing negative press as many believe that they did not respond fast enough to the situation since it did not declare Ebola a public health emergency until August, five months after the initial outbreak. • 4. Naga Mandali In Naga-Mandala In Naga Mandala,Karnad has borrowed the main plot of the story of Rani from The Serpent Lover which he had heard long ago from Professor A.K. Ramnujan (1992 1993). This tale was later collected in A Flowering Tree and other Oral Tales from India, Published posthumously in 1997. The deviation made in the play from original the folk tale can be traced thus: Rani in the play is depicted as a young and beautiful girl, whereas in the folk tale Kamakshi is a girl who is very patient. In the play the old lady named as Kurudavva, who is blind, offers two pieces of magical roots to Rani. She pays a visit to Rani s house by taking the help of her son, whereas the old woman of the folk tale lives next to Rani s house and is not described as a blind woman. In the original tale, Kamakshi is not much concerned about her husband going to a concubine, she leaves everything on the will of God. She says, let them be happy with anyone he wants , so long he accepts her as his wife. In the play Rani feel like Kamakshi only when the magical potion turns red. There is another major change in the play: In the play the snake only comes at night through the bathroom drainage. This adds horror in the mind of the spectator, whereas in the myth the snake approaches directly from the front door of Kamakshi s house by transforming himself as her husband with exactly the same voice and physical appearance. It is also noticed that the pregnancy of Kamakshi is first observed and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Taking a Look at Flu H5N1 ################################################# Part 2 ################################### There are multiple different sources for epidemiological measures used for tracking and reporting the number of cases. There are websites where you can go to post confirmed cases in areas, where that information is then taken and calculated. There are also places that provide charts for the amount of confirmed outbreaks and then separates them from human cases and avian cases. But the best types of reports available are the map tracking ones. Where they give distinction marks for avian and human cases and all over the different areas of the world. This is very handy for seeing how bad and large an outbreak is and what species is affected, whether it is humans or birds. The incidence rate is a measure of morbidity and number of infected worldwide, looking over the past 10 years. Over the past ten years there have 650 infected.(Yu Chan, 2014). This is not a large number because of the fact it is not spread through human to human contact but through already infected poultry. The prevalence rate is the number of current/existing cases worldwide. The United States has yet to have a confirmed outbreak because we set such high regulations on the meat we sell in our markets, thus preventing a large outbreak from hitting our country. The mortality rate is the number of deaths caused by the H5N1 virus worldwide. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Effects Of Neoliberalism On February 17th I joined The Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP) in their march to City hall in protest for their immediate goal of more warming centers and shelters. Of no coincidence the date of the march fell strategically on the same day that Toronto chambers would be deciding on the Cities budget. Preceding the march, OCAP members, and supporters gathered at the corner of Queen and Sherbourne (the North East corner of Moss Park) and huddled around speakers rally cries for homeless justice before heading west along Queen street towards city hall. So, although many theorists hold that public space is absolutely essential for the function of democratic politics it is interesting to contemplate whether or not public protest is the proper venue for the homeless, and if not public protest than what avenue may be used by the homeless to create socioeconomic change (Ruppert, 2006). Occupy Wall Street (OWS), a movement ignited throughout the globe in 2011 is arguably a protest movement that successfully captured the public s attention and was a protest on behalf of the 99%, that not only included homeless people but was made up by unemployed in dept college graduates, workers struggling with illness, immigrants supporting families, and those who encompass the struggling middle class. As defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual IV (DSM IV), hypochondriasis is an unrealistic interpretation of one s bodily sensations as abnormal, leading to the fear and belief that one has a serious disease (1). This preoccupation with having a serious medical condition is one of the somatoform disorders and may be considered more as a symptom than a disease. An example of this would be to attribute swollen lymph nodes to a malignant disease, as opposed to a simple viral infection. The consequences mostly affect the individual s psychological and behavioral well being, which leads to the focus of the second theory. Based on Freud s psychodynamic hypotheses, there is a belief that unconscious conflicts are the result of traumatic or frustrating childhood experiences being reawakened in adult life by similar stress or frustration. Consequently, particularly high stress/tension situations could arouse subconscious feelings of guilt, anxiety, and fear for a person, and their inability to express these emotions verbally may lead to physical manifestations of conflict. • 8. Role of Identity in Mary Shelleys Frankenstein Essays In past and present, society has always put an emphasis on external appearance as opposed to inner personality. As a result, social classes are formed, such as upper and lower, wherein members of each class must uphold the norms defined by the prestige of the class. Upper classes are deemed to be perfect, as they contain the wealthy and the beautiful. This class distinction is heightened in Gothic literature where emotions and the persona of the characters are externalized. Emotions are literalized as characters, supernatural phenomena, and the protagonist and antagonist roles. There is a great amount of expectations and insecurities placed on teens that hinder them from being active participants in the world. They must undergo all of the changes of young adult life to develop into successful members of society. In the 1990 s and the 2000 s, two separate films were released that depict the cultural norms, social expectations, and developments of teenagers at that period of time. Those two films, Mean Girls and 10 Things I Hate About You, successfully illuminate the motives and characterizations of young adult life and the troubles and tribulations that come along with it. 10 Things I Hate About You is a film about teenagers growing up in Seattle in the 1990 s. The music, clothing, and slang presented in the movie all emulate the time period in which it was released. The movie itself is based off of the play by William Shakespeare, The Taming of the Shrew. Comparison Of Pygmalion And My Fair Lady The 1964 award winning film My Fair Lady is a musical adaptation of George Bernard Shaw s stage production Pygmalion (first performed in the year of 1913). Taking place in Edwardian London, My Fair Lady depicts Professor Henry Higgins (portrayed by Rex Harrison), a misogynistic phonetics professor, and Colonel Hugh Pickering (Wilfrid Hyde White), the author of Spoken Sanskrit. Professor Higgins, after coming out of a theatre and hearing Eliza shouting in her harsh Cockney accent, places a bet with Colonel Pickering that he can take the Cockney working class girl and make her presentable in high society within six months. The working class girl, Eliza Doolittle (portrayed by Audrey Hepburn), agrees to speech lessons from Professor Higgins to improve her job prospects. Eliza grudgingly agrees to Professor Higgins lessons after flying into an angry outburst when a man points out the professor copying down her speech. Despite Professor Higgins treats Eliza as a lesser being, his acquaintance Colonel Pickering treats her with constant respect and kindness, therefore treating her as an equal. It is Pickering s treating Eliza not as a lesser being, but as an equal that allows Eliza to flourish and succeed. No one is permitted to deal with a genetically modified organism (GMO) in Australia unless the Australian Gene Technology Regulator has determined that the GMO is safe to human health and the surrounding environment. As the world s population continues to increase and is expected to double within the next few years, the world s demand for food and fibre has increased drastically. GM foods and fibres seem to be the only means for a solution to provide for the high demand in which we now face. When Yeats wrote The Second Coming the world around him was filled with violence and turmoil. Due to WWI had just ended, The Russian Revolutions had started, and The Angelo Irish War was approaching. That left Yeats trying to come to terms with the end of an age and the changing future of the 20th Century. For Yeats, the future of the world was in chaos and this left Yeats struggling to understand his own personal beliefs in religion. This is seen throughout The Second Coming. For the poem The Second Coming Yeats uses a narrator, for his writing in The Second Coming he used a new form of writing for the time called automatic writing, this form of writing left Yeats looking down different paths of religion and mysticism and more into the world of the supernatural. This new form of writing is where Yeats could dictate spirits that would take over his writing. In The Second Coming he uses an elegant syntax and uses different words such as the word Spiritus Mundi in Latin instead of saying the Anti Christ and Bethlehem in the meaning of Christ s birthplace. Yeats continues his search for religion throughout the poem in The Second Coming by using a pose sonnet, he liked to break up the coherence of his sonnets and write them to be rugged, colloquial, and to have concrete language, and he liked to rhyme, and often off rhymed for example, in The Second Coming the sun and the man are the only words that rhyme, he also uses linear writing and short sentences. Yeats uses the genre that is Poetry and uses several patterns where he writes about the world being in trouble and the 20th Century is asleep and where the earth is being transformed into a desert, where darkness of black shadows are taking over the earth and a beast is rising, he explains this in many ways throughout The Second Coming . The other matters that are highly criticized within a communist economy are the facts that these economies face several issues such as shortage of goods such as products of basic necessities, other class/creed issues, etc. All these problems and issues lead to an increase in the economic problems of the communist country. The economic problems of the country can be increased because of the short comings related to communism. In communism the governments try to create a classless society regardless of the special talents that people are provided with. It is because of this reason that a communist government faces problems when appointing officers to specific positions. Moreover if these positions are not held by people who have the right talent then the government can fail and this can create problems for the whole country. Moreover, the wages that workers have to be paid depend on the government itself and this creates a problem again. • 26. The Engineered Wetland System ( Epa ) The engineered wetland system are often described as the kidneys of the earth according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) due to its role in filtration of toxic waste that flows into another body of water. The wetland treatment system uses the surrounding vegetation, soil as well as microbial life for the improvement of water quality. These systems are meant to provide and increase water quality for the surrounding ecosystem as well as for humans. Wetland system whether or not they are natural or constructed requires the presence of surface water. When water flows through the wetland, the solids are trapped by the vegetation and establish themselves with the vegetation. Pollutants are transformed to less soluble form and are either absorbed by surrounding plants or becomes dormant. The wetland plants also provide the necessary conditions that allow for microorganisms to thrive on. Through a complicated development these microbes are transformed and aids in the removal of additional pollutants. During stormwater runoffs often carry with it fertilizers or waste from leaking septic fields that have the proper nutrients for plants and microorganism s uptake. These nutrients contain organic chemical such as phosphorus and nitrogen that are converted by the microbes into inorganic forms as nitrate and ammonium, which then can be digested. Feet By Seamus Deane Summary Feet, September 1948 from Reading in the Dark (1996) by Seamus Deane Feet , an extract from Reading in the Dark by Seamus Deane, depicts the death of a young girl, Una, from the perspective of her unnamed older brother. It focuses upon the narrator s observations, of both his sister and the adults around him, as well as the emotions and reactions of the narrator. Throughout the extract, Deane crafts an atmosphere of intimacy, and innocence, through his word choice and use of perspective. By choosing to write from the first person perspective, Deane allows the reader to feel more connected with the narrator s thoughts and feelings, as the emotions being depicted are raw and unfiltered, amplifying their emotional impact upon the reader. Furthermore, the first person narrative allows Deane to modify his diction for effect, simplifying it through his repetition of the pronoun I to create an innocent, childlike tone. Another technique employed to create this atmosphere is Deane s utilisation of simple adjectives such as redness , glossy , shiny , fright and huge when describing objects. This limited vocabulary illustrates the youth of the narrator, extending this idea of innocence. This idea of innocence feeds into a major theme of the extract, the narrator s inability to grapple with the illness and impending death of his sister. Deane illustrates this effectively through the narrator s location within the scene. He has taken refuge under the table, hidden by a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During these harsh times, lives were lost due to the strong religious beliefs of the Puritans who full heartedly believed that the Devil was present in everyday life and that he lived in the woods. In contrast to their popular belief at the time, real scientific evidence has been presented that the reason behind the Salem Witch Trials was actually Ergot Poisoning, not the Devil. According to the article, ergot is a fungus, that affects the rye grain, (PBS 2016), which causes numerous side effects. Many factors contribute to the ergot poisoning idea, such as the climate and growing conditions that ergot thrives in, what wheat rye was infected in relation to where the accused and accusers lived as well as the time span, and the symptoms of this type of poisoning. A crucial piece of evidence to the ergot theory is the growing circumstances ergot requires and why grain the people of Salem grew could have so easily circumed to it. For starters, the main crop grown in Salem at this time was rye. This grain is so easily taken over by ergotism, because when wet periods occur the flowers on the rye grain stay open longer, which allows ergot a longer period of time to affect the grain than in most cases. In addition, in order for the ergot to grow on the grain, the crop has to be in a , warm, damp, swampy place, (Anna 2012). Throughout the spring and summer months before the winter the witch ... Elena s experiences in American History by Judith Ortiz Cofer reflect all of the freedoms that American citizens get. Some examples of these would include The Battering Ram, The Turris, and The Ballista. The Roman army was also very willing to incorporate the war tactics and the weapons of their defeated enemies if they were deemed beneficial. (Alchin) These improvements provided the Roman army advantages in battle. The Roman generals that were picked to lead the army were highly skilled in the art of war. They were masters of attack and counterattacks, the use of mounted and unmounted calvary as well as archery. As a result of the Roman army s successful tactics, Rome therefore was able to achieve massive amounts of territory and assemble a substantial empire. (Cavazzi) As Rome expanded throughout Europe and acquired a growing number of citizens, the army was able to greatly increase its numbers. This ensured Rome a nearly unlimited supply of new soldiers. As Rome conquered communities, more and more people were becoming Romanized, and noticed as Roman citizens. Of course these new citizens were expected to pay taxes, allowing the empire to grow economically as well as militarily. During the Roman rule of Augustus, Caesar and Trajan, Rome s laws were continually improved making Rome ever more powerful and ethical. (Ferril) Throughout the rise and fall of the Roman empire, the government was a combination of a democracy and republic. Starting with Romulus, Rome was first ruled by a series of seven kings until 509 BCE when Rome constructed itself a Republic til ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Meaning Of Discipline In School Discipline means follow rules to be worked hard by someone in the interest of teaching something to the student. Discipline is taught in many places in many ways. I was taught discipline at a school that studied the art of taekwondo. This school helped me with my shyness and confidence problem. Without Euns Martial Arts Center I would not be the person I am today. My first year of taekwondo taught me the meaning of discipline. Joining this school was one the best decisions I ever made. I can never forget the day I decided this was the thing I wanted to do. It was a sunny day and my dad and I were wondering around Knoxville when we came upon EMAC. My dad had decided that I needed something to help me with my lack of confidence so we walked through that door. I was amazed as we sat there and watched the class. There were colorful belts and at the end they fought each other with pads on their legs and arms. After they bowed and shook hands with the teacher and his assistants. He walked over to where we were sitting. Welcome! he said with a Korean accent. My dad introduced himself and I did the same. Then we followed him to a room in the back of what looked like a padded room where the class had just practiced. I didn t know it then it said OFFICE. I was amazed by the Korean artifacts. He and my dad talked like what seemed like an hour. Then I tried on uniforms they were white and felt like itchy paper on my skin ,but it fit. We then said good bye to the teacher and went on ... • 46. The Perks Of Being A Wallflower Coming Of Age Analysis The Realization of Passivity Where should I go? asked Alice. That depends on where you want to end up responded The Cheshire Cat. (Carroll Lewis) The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky is a phenomenal coming of age novel that depicts how Charlie, the introverted protagonist, develops a new understanding of life. Set in the early 1990s, Charlie narrates his freshmen year of high school experience through an anonymous series of letters to a stranger. He begins the novel isolated by his peers and feeling lonely until he is befriended by Sam and Patrick, two seniors who encourage Charlie to experience new things and life live to its fullest. Charlie is considered to be a wallflower, which is someone who, because of shyness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first symbol is revealed when Sam is speaking to Charlie to truly participate about how it s not enough to have friends or just be there but that, Charlie really needs to engage with his friends. It s great that you can listen and be a shoulder to someone, but what about when somebody doesn t need a shoulder? What if they need arms or something like that? You can t just sit there and put everybody s lives ahead of yours and think that counts as love. You just can t. You have to do things (Chbosky 200). In other words, Sam uses a shoulder to represent Charlie s passivity and wallflower status. The shoulder symbolizes his inaction, a stationary anatomy to be leaned on. It symbolizes how Charlie listens and is always there for his friends but the arm symbolizes how Charlie needs to put himself out there; give his opinions, speak up and challenge others, be a man of action, be the arms . It demonstrates how he emotionally grew to become a shoulder but also how he needs to continue to grow. Undoubtedly, Charlie has become someone who participates in life. This is demonstrated in Charlie s final letter when he describes his ride through the Fort Pitt tunnel with Sam and Patrick. Instead of overanalyzing his drive through the tunnel as he did the previous times, Charlie allows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pros And Cons Of Oil Sand 4 Aldersbrook Avenue London, ON N9K 4A4 May 12th, 2018 Don Thompson 478 Pasta Road Edmonton, AB Q8I 4P9 Dear Mr. Thompson: I have watched the YouTube video called The Oil Sands Industry and Canada s Future . I have several concerns regarding some of the statements that you and a few others made during the video. I believe that when it comes to oil sands, there are a lot more negatives than positives that come with them. All oil sand companies are supposed to reclaim lands that have been disturbed due to oil sand operations to their natural state. 10% of the land that has been used by oil sand companies has been reclaimed to their natural state since 1967. That means that the other 90% of the land has not been returned to its natural state. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 48. Moral Hierarchy In Antigone There are many different moral levels that people have. People use reasoning that can be identified with a particular stage on Kohlberg s moral development hierarchy. The higher stages of morality are not usually achieved, according to Kohlberg. In a play called Antigone, one character, name Antigone, has a high level of morality. In Antigone, written by Sophocles, he conveys various moral hierarchy stages through character traits, reasoning, and moral development within this character Antigone is portrayed as being morally straight and obedient to higher standards. She has a high moral standard. For example, she argues to Ismene, He s my brother and yours too; and whether you will or not, I ll stand by him. (Sophocles, ll 52 53). This is showing that she is very dedicated to her family. She will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ethos is a type of reasoning that uses ethics. In this case, she says, I will stay with him, my brother; and my crime will be devotion. (Sophocles, ll 89 90). Basically Antigone feels that serving her brother is more important than obeying the law. This is showing that she places higher importance on moral ethics than human laws. In another instance, Antigone states, Haven t you heard? Don t you see hatred marches on love when friends, our own people, our family are treated as enemies? (Sophocles, ll 12 15). In short, she is saying that hatred is ruining her love for her brother in that Kreon is treating Polyneices like an enemy by not giving him a proper burial. This goes against Antigone s views which are that her brother deserves a burial regardless of what he did in his lifetime. This reasoning tells us that Antigone has high levels of morality her standards prove her maturity. This type of reasoning puts her at the fifth stage of Kohlberg s moral development hierarchy, which is social contract and individual rights. Antigone has proven to be at a very high moral state throughout this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
