The Dangers Of Religious Intolerance
The world can be a dangerous place. It can be even more dangerous if someone proves to be
different, or seen as unusual in any way. Scientology may be one of the strangest religions in the
world. Due to this, Scientology has experienced intolerance since it was first founded in 1954.
Religious intolerance is a social issue, consequently affecting every level of the religious
community, from the followers to the conductors of Scientology. Even though numerous people
view Scientology as a cult or fraudulent religion, or believe that the religion is so small and the
beliefs so strange it can simply be written off, hence the intolerance ignored, Religious
intolerance is a problem for Scientology because Only one side of the argument is broadcasted,
so Scientology receives immense amounts of hate, simply due to the fact they believe
differently than many other people. Scientology has responded to biased as well as intolerant
media as a result, their replies have been covered up, or scarcely brought up at all, Scientologists
have also been threatened with violence as well as even received hate mail and death threats
Widespread intolerance has always been a problem for Scientology for multiple reasons as well as
a serious issue which faces all religions of the world. However, the practice became popularized
when monotheistic religions such as Christianityor Judaismbecame popular. Since Scientology is
also considered a monotheistic religion, as well as describes a single

Financial Statements Regarding A Company s Performance...
Final Exam Question 4 According to FASB webpage, revenue is a crucial number to users of
financial statements in assessing a company s performance and prospects. However, revenue
recognition requirements in U.S. GAAP differ from those in IFRS, and both sets of requirements
are considered to be in need of improvements. Accordingly, the FASB and the IASB initiated a
joint project to clarify the principles for recognizing revenue and to develop a common revenue
standard for U.S. GAAP and IFRS that would 1) remove inconsistencies and weaknesses in
existing revenue recognition standards and practices; 2) provide a more robust framework for
addressing revenue recognition issues; 3) improve comparability of revenue recognition practices
across... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The current model for revenue recognition focuses on the income statement. In many respects, if
the proposed model is adopted, the new model focuses on control and when goods and services are
transferred to the customer. It appears that the revenue recognition project has the potential to affect
virtually every company s day to day accounting as well as the way business relationships and
contracts with customers are structured. Specifically, for long term construction contracts, revenue
recognition is dependent on customer control of the asset as it is developed or manufactured.
Continuous revenue recognition, such as percentage of completion, would only occur if this control
is present. Otherwise, revenue recognition would be similar to current completed contract methods.
For customer loyalty programs, benefits to customers are performance obligations because the
benefits, often points, are a material right that the customer would not receive without engaging in
the purchase transaction. Thus, revenue would be deferred until the obligations are satisfied. For
product warranties, the amount deferred would then be based on an allocation of revenue instead of
costs. However, under the current model, revenue is recognized and estimated costs to fulfill the
warranty obligation

The Sierra Club as an Interest Group Essay
The Sierra Club as an Interest Group
The Sierra Club is a national organization dedicated to the preservation of the environment.
Founded in 1892 in California by conservationist John Muir, the Club is made up of 750,000 people
devoted to the exploration, enjoyment, and the protection of the natural environmental.
Headquartered in San Francisco, it has numerous state and regional chapters taking part in the fight
for protection.
According to Janda, an important part of pluralism was that new interest groups form as a matter
of course when the need arises (Janda 176). Such is the case with the Sierra Club. With the
establishment of Yosemite National Parkby the US Congress in 1890, the Club formed two years
later in 1892 to lead a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore the Sierra Club was successfully organized due to the fact that there were so many like
minded individuals interested in environmental preservation. Moreover, a disturbance (the proposed
boundary changes), the leadership of John Muir, and numerous like minded individuals are
variables that contributed.
The mission of the Sierra Club is environmental preservation and protection. It does this by taking
on a variety of roles. Representation is a key role. The Sierra Club represents the environment and
avid supporters of environmental protection before the government. The Club lobbyists provide a
voice for ecological concerns (Janda 174).
Participation is also a function of the Sierra Club. With 750,000 members, the Club can take
collective action. As Janda suggests, with thousands of participants taking part in the fight to stop
urban sprawl, protect forests from deforestation, stop global warming and protect wildlife from
extinction, the club stands a much better chance of being heard than a single individual pushing for
environmental protection (175).
Education is another a role that the Club takes on. Through its environmental education programs,
it develops leadership skills, critical thinking, and participation. The Club offers a free John Muir
Day Study Guide, which helps teachers educate students about John Muir as a role model. The club
has established the John Muir Youth Award program which

Too Much Power Is Corrupt
Washington today is a place that scares me, myself, and I. Recent events suggest that the
government is gaining more control within the system, and power is the leader of all
corruptness. The idea of being corrupt has been around for many years, and has created many
significant problems including Watergate, 9/11, and the Benghazi Scandals. In this election cycle
for President we even have a self proclaimed socialist running for President in Bernie Sanders.
Within the ideas of individual thinking today America is controlled by large corporations, and
interest groups. Election are bought by the 1%, and speaking of the 1% almost all of America s
wealth is controlled by one out of every one hundred persons. This is exactly what Hayek discusses

Essay On Chocolate Labour In West Africa
Do you enjoy eating chocolate? Many people around the world love eating chocolate. People in
the United States eat around 120 chocolate bars each year. But would you still enjoy eating that
chocolate bar if you knew that the chocolate that is used to make those delicious bars comes from
the forced labor of young children? Chocolate is made from cacao beans that grow in tropical
places like West Africa. The countries in West Africasupply more than 70 percent of the world s
cocoa. They sell the cocoa they grow and harvest to many of the chocolate companies who make
our chocolate candy bars. In recent years, news reporters, as well as human rights organizations
around the world, have discovered that there is widespread child slaveryfor growing and harvesting
cocoa beans on cocoa farms in West Africa. As chocolate has gotten more popular around the
world, so has the demand for cheap cocoa. Many cocoa farmers earn less than $2 per day. To help
keep the cost of cocoa low, they use children as workers. The children living in West Africa are
very poor. Some of these children go to work on cocoa farms because their desperately poor
families need them to earn money. Other children are taken against their will from small
villages and sold to cocoa farm owners. These children work 80 to 100 hours a week. They are not
paid. They do not go to school. They are often beaten if they try to escape. Most of these children
are between the ages of 11 and 16, but some people have seen

Romeo And Juliet Character Analysis
A foil is a character that is used to enhance the characteristics of another character (most likely
the story s protagonist) by a clear contrast between the two characters. To help bring the
characters in Romeo and Juliet to life, William Shakespeare creates foils to compare his main
characters to and show why they are better or a better couple in the case of Romeo and Juliet.
While some of the foil characters are obvious, like in the case of Romeo and Paris, or Juliet and
Rosaline, in other cases it s harder to see the contrast and the significance, as in the case of Romeo
and Mercutio. The role of the foil characters in Romeo and Julietis also to show what could have
happened if the protagonists had made different choices. Throughout Romeo and Juliet it is
made clear that Romeo and Paris are foils as the both are in love Juliet and wish to marry her.
However this often leads people to forgetting about Mercutio and his clear contrast with Romeo.
We see their differing opinions clearly in Act 1, Scene 4, in which Mercutio tries to persuade
Romeo to join them in crashing the Capulet s feast. Romeo takes love very seriously, pining and
yearning for Rosaline, while Mercutio treats love as a joke and something to be wary of. When
Romeo says he cannot join them because he feels too heavy hearted, Mercutio tells Romeo to
borrow Cupid s wings, And soar with them above a common bound (1.4.18 19) Furthermore, when
Romeo argues that love is rough, rude, boist rous, and

Over-Sexization And Over-Sexualization Of Women In The Media
Advertisements in today s society have become increasingly bold, daring and shocking, but that
is one thing that has always stayed the same. The goal of an ad is to catch your eye using
whatever marketing strategy worked at the time, now every ad is laced with sex appeal and porn
like images of men and women, a great majority of the time it is women being put in these greatly
sexual ads, they are placed in contorted poses, with little to no clothes, displaying a product, in
certain ads men are also placed with the women but all too often they are in power positions. These
ads are printed, posted, and shared all over the place, buses, buildings, malls, the internet, etc., but
Due to how women are portrayed in mass media advertisements, over sexualization has become
widely accepted and normalized, this has created harmful standards/stereotypes for women, teens,
and young girls.
The advertisement pictured above was put out by a company called American Apparel, they
have been around for several years, producing clothes for teenage girls and young women. The
ad is two photos layered on one another with the text, New freedom for the student body. As well
as their company name, website info and where the clothing is made. Now, for clarity, we will
call the smaller image in the middle, image one and the background image, image two. To begin,
image one is a polaroid looking photo of a younger looking, white female with brown hair, she is

Wave Interactions
Wave Interactions
Wave interactions include reflection, refraction, diffraction, and interference. Wave interactions
occur when a wave hits something and it either reflects, refracts, diffracts, or there is an
interference. Many different types of waves can be involved in wave interactions including sound,
light, surface, etc.
Reflection occurs when a particular wave, or waves, bounce, or reflect back from an object
through which they cannot pass. An echo is a good example of a reflection wave interaction,
but reflection can occur with other types of waves, too. Light waves can be reflected too. A light
source, such as a light bulb or the sun, gives light to an object. That object reflects some of the
light, and when the light that has been reflected hits one s eye, he or she could see the
object. When waves hit an object, they reflect back in the same direction. Waves that are reflected
have the same speed and frequency as the original wave, so only their direction is changed. On the
other hand, when waves hit an object at an angle, they bounce at the same degree of angle, but in a
different direction (CK 12 Foundation, 2017).
The bending of waves as they pass from one form of matter to another is refraction. When light
travels from an object to one s eyes, it makes the object seem to be in a different location. As
waves access a new medium. they travel at a different rate in the alternative medium. For instance,
light waves travel at a lower rate in water than in air. The

What are the implications of this view? What are the arguments for and against this view? Helen
Buono states, All money is green. Investors cannot know as much about our operations as we
do. To them the firm is an opaque box; they hire us to take care of what is inside the box, and
judge us by the dividends coming out of the box. While I cannot refute that the color of money
is of a green hue, I can critique that the cost of all money is not the same. Her green money
statement does not factor in the risk involved in projects. This view implies that a single hurdle
rate may deprive an under profitable division of investments in order to channel more funds into
a more profitable division. While this is sound logic, certain situation exist where projects will go
unfunded that do create value to the company. Helen also goes on to explain that if one segment s
hurdle rate is lower than the corporate hurdle rate, the company would be destroying shareholder
value. The whole is a sum of its parts. What if Teletech has the opportunity to invest in a project
that creates value at a hurdle rate below the firm wide 10.41%, but above the segment s hurdle rate?
This investment would create value in this segment, but in the strategy of one hurdle rate, the
project would be overlooked. 5. Is Helen Buono right that management would destroy value if all of
the firm s assets were redeployed into only the telecommunications business segment? Helen

Statistical Test For Your Data Analysis
Data Analysis and Interpretation In selecting the appropriate statistical test for your data
analysis, you need to identify the question or hypothesis for the study. Are you trying to compare
groups, interested in finding out if there is a relationship between two or more variables, or are
you trying to predict. Some factors to consider as well are the following: (1) Research design,
(2) Level of measurement: nominal, ordinal, interval, ratio, (3) Number of groups, and if they
are correlated (dependent) or independent, (4) Number of variables, and know which is the
dependent and independent variable, and (5) Know when to choose a parametric versus a non
parametric test. The flowchart and the Appendix E section of the book on How to Use SPSS
eighth edition of Brian Cronk (2014), was used as a guide to answer the questions below. Answer
this question for the four studies below: Which statistical test you would use to analyze the data
collected for these variables? Study A* Variable 1 is psychiatric patients gender; and Variable 2 is
whether or not the patient has attempted suicide in the past 12 months. Answer Chi square test of
independence tests whether or not two variables are independent of each other (Cronk, 2014). The
question here is, is there a relationship between gender and whether or not the patient has attempted
suicide in the past 12 months? Does the relationship differ for males and females? The independent
variable is gender and the dependent variable

Infosys Consulting Essay
Will Infosys Consulting be able to change the rules of the game in the consulting industry?
ICI s new rules of the game (1 1 3 model)
Infosys consulting has come up with an innovative way of performing business process consulting
operations. They are calling their model as 1 1 3 model based on the allocation of resources for
particular project. This model could be summarized in the below diagram with the significance of
the new approach highlighted in the purple callout (case p9):

Additionally due to frequent client interaction and innovative employee reward program tied to

So eventually all the companies in business process consulting will have to change their operations
to this model to remain competitive. So, Infosys consulting is certainly in the process of changing
the rules of the game in consulting industry.
Advantages and disadvantages of the model and base in India
Advantages:
Infosys, having based in India, has effectively capitalized on institutional voids in factor market
(HBR article 9 703 431) in this model by:
Exploiting its understanding of variable talent pool in India and using them effectively for
providing world class software solutions
Exploiting its experience in onsite offshore model software development process
Effectively applying the matrix quality measurement structure to this model to measure the
performance of every deliverable and hence increasing the quality of product with each project
Clearly Infosys is able to exploit its position of base in India. Apart from the capitalizing on
institutional voids in factor market of India, Infosys has gained additional advantages of the
geographical locations of its base. 1 1 3 model can effectively work day and night due to time
difference between US and India. Having design team (ICI

Charlemagne s Influence On Charlemagne
The life of Charlemagne is one of historical and utter greatness. He ruled in a time of turmoil and
disorder during middle ages in Europe. The successes of his past lineage prepared and propelled
him to take on the tremendous task of expanding, governing and reforming the Frankish Empire.
Charlemagne incredible accomplishment during his sovereignty. For he not only invented an

With his grand conquests a solidification between the Catholic Church and the State began to take

Church especially ones of the monasteries. Using them to usher in the Carolingian renaissance. The
crowning of Charlemagne as Holy Roman Emperor fashioned a turning point that would forever
change the path of Europe. Within years after his death, though, Charlemagne once boundless

he had only hoped it would. But as history often shows for every one event there are often several

Stricter Gun Control Laws
Do stricter gun control laws, equal less violence and death rates in America?
Gun control (or firearms regulation) is the set of laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale,
transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms by civilians (Wikipedia). Some presume that
this means banning guns. In actuality, gun control only acts to protect citizens through enforcing the
appropriate use of firearms; it does not ban the weapon. By implementing stricter gun laws and
regulations, there would be a large decrease in death rates and help prevent violence in America.
For instance, the United States Constitution Second Amendment declares that everyone has the
right to bear arms . The United States Constitution was written with the intention of securing all
United States citizens basic rights. Its purpose is to outline the laws of this country by mandating
the powers of the people and what the United States government considers acceptable. Despite this,
people feel the introduction of stricter gun control laws would deny them their sense of safety by
violating their right to defend themselves by the law of the Second Amendment. By allowing
everyone including criminals the ability to gain ownership of a weapon, increases violence and
death rates in America. Therefore, stricter gun control laws and regulations should be implemented.
Furthermore, many people feel that guns are not causing the problems, people that are using these
weapons are. This is partially true.

Specific biological rationales for the utility of new sequence data
1. Antioxidant properties: Some dietary resources can provide the antioxidants missing in our body
s natural regulating machinery. An excellent example of this is the Aloe vera which is a functional
food that plays a significant role in protecting our organism from oxidative stress, not only because
of its content of antioxidant constituents, but also for its ability to activate the body s natural
protective systems. The antioxidants contained in Aloe vera (vitamin C, E, zinc and seven
superoxide dismutases), work primarily by scavenging free radicals. Among the multiple benefits of
dietary antioxidant intake, researches have demonstrated its inverse relationship with the
development of cardiovascular diseases. Still other studies have shown preventive or attenuating
effects of dietary antioxidant consumption in virtually every other chronic disease related to
oxidative stress (Total Health, 2007).
2. Diabetes: Diabetes is the fifth leading cause of death in the United States and health policy
experts believe that mortality attributed to diabetes is vastly under reported. The overall risk of
death for diabetics is about twice that for nondiabetics and diabetes is associated with a number of
complications that increase the risk of death, including heart disease and

what made previous collaborations in my life so successful and what made the more unfavorable

In all of my past successful collaborations, each member had a mutual respect for each other,
enjoyed each other presence, and worked together in an appropriate manner. To contrast this: in a

idea they would suggest, even if it was good. Although we managed to put aside our differences to
finish the project, not many positive memories remained from that collaboration other than the
negativity and awkwardness between us. I understand how tension in a group could harm the
collaboration as it may lead to the rejection of positive ideas or worse case scenario, sabotaging
the project. Working in an atmosphere of stress definitely does not promote insightful and efficient
learning. To summarize my second reflection, I have learned the importance of the three
ingredients for a successful collaboration. Through elaborating on how each ingredient relates to
an event in my life, I believe it further strengthened my appreciation for both the article and
collaborating in general. I plan to enforce these ingredients in future group projects as it ll allow

Revolutionary Militia
Continental Army officers often criticized the militia s effectiveness. However, at the Battle of
Saratoga, and during a campaign in 1780, the militia proved to be an essential fighting force. By the
end of the war, General Washington and other officers in command used the continental militia as
support for the regular army, thus proving the militias were a crucial component in achieving
victory during the American Revolution.
The militia was also required to set aside a portion of their soldiers and form them into new, special
companies called minutemen. The minutemen were different from the militia because while the
law required colonists dedicate service in their local militia, the minutemen assembled themselves
from volunteers.
The minutemen were a very small, specifically chosen, elite force required to be extremely mobile
and capable to fight under short time constraints. Minutemen, chosen by militia commanders, joined
this elite group of soldiers. Normally each minuteman was around twenty five or younger and was
chosen for his enthusiasm, reliability, and physical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were a reorganized and well run militia, with no loyalty to the crown, and trained much more
than any form of military in America had previously. Where in ordinary times the militia
mustered four times a year and now, in the spring of 75, the minutemen drilled twice a week. The
militia companies had previously shown themselves incapable of fully meeting and defending
themselves in an emergency. It was hardly surprising: they embraced almost all the able bodied
men in town between sixteen and sixty. These citizen soldiers, dispersed on distant farms and busy
with everyday chores, could not easily be called together to fight successfully. Once again, farms
were exporting their youth to the frontier. A special force needed to alarm the country. That force
was the minutemen, and Concord has as good a claim as any town to be their

A Single, Comprehensive Solution For Environmental Challenges
A single, comprehensive solution to environmental challenges does not exist. The subject matter of
the environment is interdisciplinary and entails diverse sets of strategies and solutions. Historically,
collective action solutions have focused on conventional governmental regulations or privatization.
It operates under the assumption that under the established apparatus of government and private
institutions, individuals could join cooperative efforts and contribute to the cause. Hardin argued
for the centralized administration of resources by governmental agencies or the privatization of the
commons and allow the private enterprise to manage the common as it sees fit (Hardin 1968).
Nobel prizing winning economist, Elinor Ostrom disputed such claims, asserting that governments
have large agendas and cannot consider local environmental problems and some resources such as
water and air cannot be privatized. Ostrom insists that the state or the market cannot be successful
in ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources (Ostrom 1990). According to Ostrom and her
research, an alternative approach to the problem of the commons is community mobilization, or
polycentric governance. The alternative approach is characterized by multiple cooperative
independent institutions organized and governed under a general system of rules. The citizens and
officials of the community all come together to jointly chart the priorities and management of their
local resources, while balancing

Media Log Essay
Media Logs
On the weekday, September 8th, I had no plans other than to go to my 11:00 a.m. class and to
make the hour long drive to go to my home town later that night. I had no middle of the day
plans, so I spent my day relaxing and watching internet shows on Netflix. Later, I took some time
to text my stepfather, because my car broke down. Once I got my car mobile, I sang along to the
radio while I drove home. A week later, September 17th on a weekend day, I used the same types of
media again. I spent a few hours watching Netflix, until I became motivated to study for the exams
I had to take the next day. Then I studied for the rest of the day, using google to help me define
and look up information. Late that night I song along to the radio while I shower and decided to
keep it playing as I fell asleep. Although I did different activities through the days, both days I used
many of the same media types, and most were around the same time of day. On these days, the
media that took up most the time was watching Netflix. I spent about 2 hours and 30 minutes
each day watching the online shows. The time I starting watching was roughly 1:00 p.m. and I
did not watch any shows pasted 5:00 or 6:00 pm, on both days. Another media I used on both
days is Snapchat, a form of social media. On both days, I used Snapchat close to when I woke up,
and right before I went to bed. Snapchat wasn t the only media I used right before bed, although
I used text messages at small amounts throughout both days, before bed I d text for a longer
period, between 30 minutes to an hour. The radio was a very prevalent media but it was not
consistent like the other media types at certain times of the day, only while I was driving,
showering, or sleeping. Some of my media usage shocked me. It surprised me how much of my
time I spent watching online shows. I reacted by being disappointed about what I spent my time
doing compared to what I could have spent my time doing. I felt lazy, and embarrassed. Much of
media used in both days were Netflix and the radio. Neither of these types of media are productive,
or helped me accomplish anything. I used the medias for my entertainment. My roommate uses
much more media than I do at one time.

The Power of the Liberal Narrative
Trudging through the mountains of facts, studies, and opinions relevant to social and political
issues creates a daunting task for political strategists, leaving them to decide what information is
relevant and essential for the voting public to know, in order to rally the voters to support a
certain candidate. However, these mountains of facts and opinions can turn off voters, and scare
away many potential supporters, forcing political strategists to also engage the emotional lives of
the populace: enter the role of cultural narratives tales of adventure, sacrifice, defeat, and victory
grabbing hold of the emotional lives of the audience, and as George Lakoff points out, ...politics is

The message next takes on a more subtle tone of character and costuming with the entrance of
the banker: a man in a clean suit, with a shiny car, and a big cigar, a perfect juxtaposition of the
dirty, tattered farmers, a man very well off forcing those struggling and fighting in their day to
day lives off the land which they used to create a meager living. Having been forced off their
land and with nowhere else to turn, Tom Joad, his family, and John Casey head to California
with dreams of a better life, only to have these dreams smashed upon the rocks of corporate
greed. The Joad family arrives to find the worker camps destitute and hungry, with no food even
for the children of the camp, and with the works not allowed in town. It seems as though no area
of California will present better options, for when the Joad family arrives at the first farm with
work available there is a throng of workers on strike outside the farm because the wealthy ranch
owners promised a wage of five cents a box, but with the overabundance of workers, the owners
only offer two and a half cents per box: more underhanded industry on the part of big business. The
anti corporate message is not the only facet of the liberal narrative; for perhaps more importantly
the liberal narrative focuses on the characters and the trials and

High Failure Rate In Healthcare
There are an abundance of issues that contribute to the relatively high failure rate of IT projects in
healthcare. I believe the primary reason for this high failure rate is the complexity of healthcare
including complex and fluid processes and a varied workforce ranging from physician and nurse to
lab technician and aide (Boonstra, Versluis, Vos, 2014). Another significant reason for this failure
rate is the need for a paradigm shift to accept HIT in the healthcare setting and to be open to process
changes/improvements (Shea Belden, 2016; Chiocchio, Rabbat, Lebel, 2015). As a nurse, I can
attest that the overwhelming attitude toward HIT and changes/improvements is poor; nurses
appear to like the status quo. Another issue that significantly contributes to HIT failures is the fact
that healthcare is extremely legislated. All HIT projects need to meet security, confidentiality, and
regulatory constraints (Boonstra et al., 2014). A project may appear relatively successful, for
instance, an electronic medical record is being used to pass medications, and on the... Show more

The varied workforce often has difficulty with interdisciplinary collaboration regarding projects.
Project management is successful in other industries; therefore, it is a reasonable assumption that it

some challenges. I already discussed that the complexities of healthcare are a primary reason for
HIT failures, and since most healthcare professionals are not well versed in project management,
they most likely will not be the project manager. Therefore, someone without healthcare experience

The Moral Ambivalence Of Crime And Criminology
Crime and Criminology Essay
It is common knowledge that crime exists all over the world and that justice and punishment may
vary in different countries and societies. However, how justice and punishment is enforced in a
society and globally is not common knowledge. Global justice refers to the belief that the world is
unjust; while social justice, in a manner of speaking, refers to the fair treatment of everyone in a
society.( Social Justice ). Both social and global justice value human rights, remove inequality, and
holds people accountable for fair practices.( Social Justice ). If someone commits the same crime as
another person, for example, they should receive the same punishment. That is what most people
would be inclined to believe, but in the reading The Moral Ambivalence of Crime in an Unjust
Society by Jeffrey Reiman, crime and justice is reviewed and defined in an uncommon way.
Reiman discusses justice in a society where a crime was committed against him and his wife. A
visit to France should be like a dream come true, an experience of a lifetime, but for Jeffrey
Reiman and his wife it was not. In the summer of 2005, they visited a town called Nice. After
traveling all night, the couple picked up a car that they were leasing for the summer. Before they
could lock the doors to the car or even enjoy any of the accommodations, they were victimized.
There, in the city of Nice, they have a crime called vol a la portiere, theft through the door. This

Slavery In Venezuela
Venezuela s economic development began long ago when Christopher Columbus discovered it
on one of his voyages to the new world. The development started with the colonial experience led
by the Spanish. In the 1500s word had spread that there were pearls and rare precious metals to be
found in Venezuela. With the newly found pearls, the Spanish colonizers started developing
extractive policies to harvest these pearls and metals to the point where new ways and resources
had to be found. In the 1520 s, instead of extracting resources and treasures from Venezuela, the
Spanish began extracting their native people, taking the people for slavery. The slaves that were
extracted from Venezuela were used to supply the growing need for labor in the Caribbean... Show

The Glass Menagerie Analysis
The delays and choices of the Wingfield family are their ways of searching for a purpose in life.
In the play, you can see the character s attempt to delaying choices. However, you can also see
how others choices have affected each other. The husband of Amanda, and the father of Tom and
Laura left. The abandonment plays through out; however, it is more about his choice of leaving
the family behind. You can also realize Tom s delay of leaving by his nightly escapes. Laura
is
escaping anything that must do with the real world. Whereas Amanda forces her compulsions

The Glass Menagerie. Tom and Laura s father pursued the lifestyle of the open road. Amanda

even more strife within the family. Jim pursued women whom he based off their aesthetics and

Tom acts as a duel role in the play by being a narrator and protagonist. The play comes from the
perspective of Tom s memories. He participates as both a character within the play recalling his
own recollections, and by addressing the audience to present an analysis of the events. Tom feels
confined in his job and family and yearns to escape in every aspect of his life. Tom is

Medieval Civilization Summary
Chapter Ten of our textbook relates to the Medieval Civilization: The Rise of Western Europe.
The first source I used for this discussion post is the Medieval Technology Science: The 1000 AD
Pivot from our Instructor Commentary. This source is relevant to study the topic of Medieval
Civilization because it allows us to explore the technology and science used in this era. This
source gives us an outline and summary of the Medieval technology and science used.
According to this commentary, it was in the year 1000 that technology began to accelerate. The
increase in technology can be contributed to monks, clergy, and scholars. Also, civilizations
moved from constant war to more advanced pursuits since economic, political, and social norms
were achieved all leading to the rise of Western Europe (Darty 1 2). This commentary also gave
valuable information for us to get a clear picture of the medieval style of technology used during
this period including eotechnic which focused on wood, stone, wind, and water as the drivers of
machined technology (2). This commentary supports the historically continued progress of the
Medieval civilization which led to the rise of Western Europe. The second source I used for this

Ethics And Moral Subjectivism
Moral Subjectivism:
Moral Subjectivism: ethical philosophical theory comes In several shapes, its most individualistic
expression is ethical subjectivism, ethical subjectivism says that the standards for what is thought
concerning virtuously right or wrong is the people perceptions, opinions, experiences, inclinations,

Ethical subjectivism denies the existence of absolute, unchanging, universal moral standards.
Instead, it views ethical values as being private, individual, and subjective in nature. Statements
typical to the ethical intellect position embody these ,morality, is like the among of the eye of

Moral subjectivism assumes that no one can be wrong regarding his or her moral views. If the
individual is that the basis of moral truth, then none folks would possibly ever be mistaken in our
moral opinions, for no matter we have a tendency to tend to believe ought to be true. Clearly,

The Use Of Literary Devices In Hamlet By William Shakespeare
To understand and grasp the concept of literature, one must be able to identify the many uses of
literary devices. Literary devices act as a key factor in the translation one makes of difficult
sentences conducted throughout a piece of literature, as well as act as a bridge to assist one in the
analysis of the specific piece. In the play Hamlet, one literary device that is prominently used is that
of metaphors. For example, the text s use of the sentencethe cock, that is the trumpet to the morn,
doth with his lofty and shrill sounding throat Awake the god of day, and, at his warning, whether
in sea or fire, in earth or air, (1.1.v.154 157) functions as a metaphor both literally and figuratively,
by actually utilizing the rooster as a metaphor for the beginning of morning, while also using it as
a symbol for a Holy substance. However, one might also argue and begin to claim that the crow of
the rooster may symbolize the opposite, which is that the crow is the realization that one must have
to come to their own terms of the wrong acts one has committed, and also pay the consequences.
The use of the quote in the text brings to light one of the deeper meanings, which is that the
rooster acts as a metaphor for the beginning of morning or just a new start in general. The
rooster, and it s crow specifically means the start of a new day in the play. For example, when the
rooster is introduced in the play in Act 1, scene i, it is because it lets out a crow, signaling to the

are some of the most common products of human existence. It simply means to trade something for

A Career As A Veterinary Technician
Veterinarians have a job that acquires a long time to meet the requirements for education and
training. The majority of people studying to become a veterinarian are required to go to college for
eight years. Which is a longer time than a person studying to become a doctor to go to college. The
reason is that veterinarians are required to learn about the different anatomical structures of several
different animals. They must also learn about the illnesses that the animals may acquire and how to
treat them.
Veterinarians have various tasks that they must do in their job. The first task is that they care for

A Rush Of Blood To The Head Analysis
A Rush of Cash, Love, and 9/11 to the Head Coldplay s sophomore album A Rush of Blood to the

named; therefore, the artists must have wanted to install an emphasis on this particular song. The
album was released in 2002 after the September 11th terrorist attacks, and the song, A Rush of
Blood to the Head in particular has many interesting elements pointing towards that event as
inspiration. The lead singer of Coldplay, Chris Martin, has said that the song is an homage to
Johnny Cashs way of singing because Martin wanted to sing a song in a low key like that of
Cash. A literal analysis of the lyrics interpret a man who is very impulsive, and he will do

Research Paper On David Hasselhoff
It seems in this modern day and age, no one in the entertainment industry can seem to maintain a
good credibility. A prime example of this is David Hasselhoff. David Hasselhoff demonstrates why
having good credibility is an important virtue but can easily and hastily be destroyed. He also
demonstrates that all your actions effect your credibility. David Hasselhoffwas born on July 17,
1952 (age 61) in Baltimore, MD. Some of his first major achievements include starring in many
television series such as The Young and the Restless, Baywatch, Baywatch Nights, and Night Rider.
Hasselhoff also dabbled in drama and theatre. Early in Hasselhoff s life, he believed his career
would lead to Broadway. (Stevens) Hasselhoff gained his credibility by not being caught in
scandals through the beginning of his career. He also gained credibility by starring in many of the
productions stated before. He was known as a trustworthy and credible person for a moderate
amount of time. (Stevens) That is, until he was discovered to be in the same boat as the vast
majority of the music industry.
David Hasselhoff s middle and current years of his life are controlled by alcohol. (Stevens) The
first time the public found out about Hasselhoff s drunken acts, his credibility toke a large negative

Family Structure And Juvenile Delinquency
In recent years it seems that early exposure to crime is increasing the number of crimes committed
by minors. This type of crime is mostly known as juvenile delinquency. Juvenile delinquency is
defined as young adults, people under eighteen, braking or violating the law (Websters). Family
structure can affect juvenile delinquency in numerous ways. Familystructure can include family
support system, home environment, and family unity. The independent variable is family structure
and the dependent variable is juvenile delinquency. Home environment plays a role in the
production of juvenile delinquency.
Kierkus and Hewitt (2009) in The Contextual Nature of the Family Structure/Delinquency
relationship discussed how family structure is an important factor in delinquency but there might
also be other factors that influence this type of behavior. The relationship between a nontraditional
family structure and delinquency differs according to six distinct circumstances: age, gender, race,
socioeconomic status (SES), family size, and place of residence (Kierkus and Hewitt, 2009). After
analyzing these circumstances only age and family size affect more the family structure
/delinquency relationship considering teens who suffered from parental attachment are older and
come from larger families (Kierkus and Hewitt, 2009). Researchers before have focused on one or
two issues dealing with family structure and delinquency (Kierkus and Hewitt, 2009). Studies have

many citizens felt allowed the country to surpass its negative views and practices to emerge a more
open and more accepting place.
Of the most influential people during the civil rights movement, was Rosa Parks and Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr. However, President Eisenhower is often overlooked as influential during this
time but he did pass many acts and give orders to help children trying to attend school safely
while the face of the nation was changing. Rosa Parks is well known for her refusal to give up
her seat on the bus, but she was not the only one. There were others who did the same deed but
she just so happened to be recognized for this, and it s a very positive thing she was. Without her
actions and the recognition of other s there would not have been such a large reaction and
response. Another familiar face was Martin Luther King Jr., he spoke for the public and addressed

Foreshadowing In Bible
All things considered, God always had in mind one plan for salvation. Since, the promise made
to Adam and Eve in Genesis 3:15 were He says, And I will put enmity between thee and the
woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel
the devil had tried to deceive us with the biggest lie, that there are many ways to come to God. As a
result, most religions view God as a being that modifies according to peoples standards, peoples
view point, peoples believe, and their own interpretation of the Bible. However, that is not how
God runs the universe. In fact, the main reason for God to establish the temple among the Jews
was in order to serve as a prefiguring of the coming of the perfect lamb Jesus... Show more content

Another key point, is that every sacrifice ceremony was providing just a temporary covering of
once sin, and could never take it away forever. On the other hand, the foreshadowing of the
perfect Lamb, would come to remove sin forever. That is what the temple represented, that there
is one way to heaven, the lamb slain, Jesus Christ. Now, the time has come to have faith in Jesus
Christ for salvation of our souls. The temple is no longer needed. In effect, no longer we need to
wait for the foreshadow of Jesus Christ, we no longer need to slain a sheep to cover our sins, we
no longer need to seek God on an altar, as he dwells within us through the Holy Spirit. God has
never given us a spirit of fear, rather a spirit of faith in Jesus Christ. Under those circumstances,
when Jesus declared, I am the way, is the reason why Jews hated Him. As a result, they were
intolerance with Him and Christians, until this day. The Bible speaks of Jesus Christ becoming the
stumbling rock for the Jews by not accepting his vicarious death. In fact, the incredible thing about
Jesus is that He is the way, the truth and the life no one comes to the father but through

Heroin
Heroin is known as morphine diacetate or diamorphine when it is used in medical environment,
it is also referred to as black tar among other names in colloquial language. Alder Wright was the
first person to synthesize heroin in 1874 when he added two groups of acetyl to morphine
molecules (Rubin, 2013). Heroine is an active drug which can also be used in medicine to treat
severe pain that results from heart attack or injuries; it is absorbed in the body as morphine.
According to Levert (2005), the word heroinis only used when discussing it in illegal form. Heroin
is made from opium a substance produced from the poppy plants resin and it is the raw material for
heroin, the opium is further processed to make morphine and then... Show more content on

The National Survey on Drug Use and Health reported that most drug users share needles that
they use to inject themselves with while using heroin. Sharing of needles by heroin users is due
to the fact that doctors and many pharmacy boards are not allowed to sell needles and syringes to
unauthorized personnel, so the only avenue left for drug users is to share the available needles
they have. This has contributed to spread of HIV aids among the heroin victims therefore
exposing them to more health dangers. Infact, 30% of global HIV infections in Sub Saharan
Africa are caused by sharing needles during drug injections, furthermore, heroin injection rose
from 2% in 1993 to 15% in 2000. Heroin users and other drug addicts have been reported to be
more exposed to unsafe sex a fact that have exposed them even more to these diseases. This
analysis shows that heroin and drug use are among the factors that are causing HIV aids to increase
in the world (Levert, 2005).
Heroin not only affects people using the drug but, the problems also affect other people close to
them too, it has an immense trickle down effect on society. The cost to the society is immense as
indicated by the financial implications and the excessive use of healthcare resources to rehabilitate
heroin addicts (White, 2009). The society also uses vast resources on funding law enforcement to

A New Executive Leadership Team
St. Jude Medical, on September 2015 announced their new executive leadership team, and that
incoming President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Michael T. Rousseau has been chosen to
lead the organization into the next phase of growth and innovation. The new team ensures the
continuity of key leadership positions within St. Jude Medical. The executive leadershipteam will
include a new structure intended to drive organizational effectiveness and maximize the depth of
experience of St. Jude Medical leaders (Media Relations, 2015, para.1). The expectations, plans and
prospects for the company, including potential clinical successes, anticipated regulatory approvals
and future product launches, and projected revenues, margins, earnings and... Show more content on

Jude Medical antonymous and let them run their own business because Abbot Labs originally
understood St. Jude Medical to be a leader in this medical device field. Now however, Abbott Labs
needs to possibly reconsider how their subsidiary organizes their management. The problem St.
Jude Medical is having right now is not only a device problem nor a cultural problem, but it is a
management problem and their inability to properly handle possible recalls in the industry. Recalls
are not uncommon, but it is how companies handle these recalls. Are they ahead of the game? Do
they understand their products, and know what actions need to implement when things go wrong?
Abbott Labs may have to take control of the management of St. Jude Medical. Abbott Labs has
211 executives and St. Jude Medical has many additional executives themselves (Unknown,
2015, para.2). There is a high probability that St. Jude Medical s executive team will be reduced
as Abbott Labs becomes more involved in the day to day business of their new acquisition. The
question is how far does Abbott Labs go down in the chain of command. Will they go as far as
down as lower management, for example: Field Directors, or will they stand back and let St. Jude
Medical manage their entire business? I believe Abbott Labs needs to change how St. Jude Medical
runs their management style. There are too many signs that there is a lack of leadership within the
organization.

Post American World Essay
Fareed Zakaria Post American World Book Review Few would disagree that the previous U.S.
administration of George W. Bush Jr. plunged America s international reputation to an all time
low. Even as the country staggers to recover international goodwill under President Barack
Obama, a homegrown credit crisis, captured most strikingly in the collapse of several iconic
institutions of American industry like Citigroup and General Motors, has brought the U.S.
economy to a standstill. Few would doubt that America will eventually recover from both crises.
Be that as it may, the unipolar moment, centered on the preeminence of American power, purse,
and presence may well and truly be over, or so we are often told. What powers will take the place...

This new global order, Fareed is quick to remind, has in fact proven remarkably peaceful. While a
conclusion that would perhaps be initially met with raised eyebrows, Fareed proceeds to explain
this in a manner that makes eminent sense. For instance, he argues that Islamic threat is overrated
and that the struggle between governments and terrorists will persist, but with the former holding
the upper hand. For instance, he explains, Al Qaeda may have been a movement out to rally the
entire Muslim world to jihad against the West, but the many variations within Islam undermine its
ability to merge into a single monolithic force. He goes on to suggest that ideological watchdogs
have focused so much on jihad rhetoric that they have ceased to take into account the actual Muslim
societies which are frustrated with the fundamentalists, wish for modernity (that allows for dignity
and cultural pride), and pursue practical solutions not martyrdom. Equally telling is his explanation
for this artificial and unnecessary state of paranoia we live in. The problem, to him, lies in the
mismatch between people s perception and fear of the danger (i.e. war, terrorism, organized
violence) that allegedly surrounds them, and the actual reality. This, he argues, can be partly
attributed to

Scientology may be one of the strangest religions in the world. Due to this, Scientology has experienced intolerance since it was first founded in 1954. Religious intolerance is a social issue, consequently affecting every level of the religious community, from the followers to the conductors of Scientology. Even though numerous people view Scientology as a cult or fraudulent religion, or believe that the religion is so small and the beliefs so strange it can simply be written off, hence the intolerance ignored, Religious intolerance is a problem for Scientology because Only one side of the argument is broadcasted, so Scientology receives immense amounts of hate, simply due to the fact they believe differently than many other people. • 4. Financial Statements Regarding A Company s Performance... Final Exam Question 4 According to FASB webpage, revenue is a crucial number to users of financial statements in assessing a company s performance and prospects. However, revenue recognition requirements in U.S. GAAP differ from those in IFRS, and both sets of requirements are considered to be in need of improvements. Accordingly, the FASB and the IASB initiated a joint project to clarify the principles for recognizing revenue and to develop a common revenue standard for U.S. GAAP and IFRS that would 1) remove inconsistencies and weaknesses in existing revenue recognition standards and practices; 2) provide a more robust framework for addressing revenue recognition issues; 3) improve comparability of revenue recognition practices across... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The current model for revenue recognition focuses on the income statement. In many respects, if the proposed model is adopted, the new model focuses on control and when goods and services are transferred to the customer. It appears that the revenue recognition project has the potential to affect virtually every company s day to day accounting as well as the way business relationships and contracts with customers are structured. Specifically, for long term construction contracts, revenue recognition is dependent on customer control of the asset as it is developed or manufactured. Continuous revenue recognition, such as percentage of completion, would only occur if this control is present. Otherwise, revenue recognition would be similar to current completed contract methods. For customer loyalty programs, benefits to customers are performance obligations because the benefits, often points, are a material right that the customer would not receive without engaging in the purchase transaction. Thus, revenue would be deferred until the obligations are satisfied. For product warranties, the amount deferred would then be based on an allocation of revenue instead of costs. However, under the current model, revenue is recognized and estimated costs to fulfill the warranty obligation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Sierra Club as an Interest Group Essay The Sierra Club as an Interest Group The Sierra Club is a national organization dedicated to the preservation of the environment. Founded in 1892 in California by conservationist John Muir, the Club is made up of 750,000 people devoted to the exploration, enjoyment, and the protection of the natural environmental. Headquartered in San Francisco, it has numerous state and regional chapters taking part in the fight for protection. According to Janda, an important part of pluralism was that new interest groups form as a matter of course when the need arises (Janda 176). Such is the case with the Sierra Club. With the establishment of Yosemite National Parkby the US Congress in 1890, the Club formed two years later in 1892 to lead a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore the Sierra Club was successfully organized due to the fact that there were so many like minded individuals interested in environmental preservation. Moreover, a disturbance (the proposed boundary changes), the leadership of John Muir, and numerous like minded individuals are variables that contributed. The mission of the Sierra Club is environmental preservation and protection. It does this by taking on a variety of roles. Representation is a key role. The Sierra Club represents the environment and avid supporters of environmental protection before the government. The Club lobbyists provide a voice for ecological concerns (Janda 174). Participation is also a function of the Sierra Club. With 750,000 members, the Club can take collective action. As Janda suggests, with thousands of participants taking part in the fight to stop urban sprawl, protect forests from deforestation, stop global warming and protect wildlife from extinction, the club stands a much better chance of being heard than a single individual pushing for environmental protection (175). Education is another a role that the Club takes on. Through its environmental education programs, it develops leadership skills, critical thinking, and participation. The Club offers a free John Muir Day Study Guide, which helps teachers educate students about John Muir as a role model. The club has established the John Muir Youth Award program which ... Recent events suggest that the government is gaining more control within the system, and power is the leader of all corruptness. The idea of being corrupt has been around for many years, and has created many significant problems including Watergate, 9/11, and the Benghazi Scandals. In this election cycle for President we even have a self proclaimed socialist running for President in Bernie Sanders. • 7. Essay On Chocolate Labour In West Africa Do you enjoy eating chocolate? Many people around the world love eating chocolate. People in the United States eat around 120 chocolate bars each year. But would you still enjoy eating that chocolate bar if you knew that the chocolate that is used to make those delicious bars comes from the forced labor of young children? Chocolate is made from cacao beans that grow in tropical places like West Africa. The countries in West Africasupply more than 70 percent of the world s cocoa. They sell the cocoa they grow and harvest to many of the chocolate companies who make our chocolate candy bars. In recent years, news reporters, as well as human rights organizations around the world, have discovered that there is widespread child slaveryfor growing and harvesting cocoa beans on cocoa farms in West Africa. As chocolate has gotten more popular around the world, so has the demand for cheap cocoa. Many cocoa farmers earn less than $2 per day. To help keep the cost of cocoa low, they use children as workers. The children living in West Africa are very poor. Some of these children go to work on cocoa farms because their desperately poor families need them to earn money. Other children are taken against their will from small villages and sold to cocoa farm owners. These children work 80 to 100 hours a week. They are not paid. They do not go to school. They are often beaten if they try to escape. Most of these children are between the ages of 11 and 16, but some people have seen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Romeo And Juliet Character Analysis A foil is a character that is used to enhance the characteristics of another character (most likely the story s protagonist) by a clear contrast between the two characters. To help bring the characters in Romeo and Juliet to life, William Shakespeare creates foils to compare his main characters to and show why they are better or a better couple in the case of Romeo and Juliet. While some of the foil characters are obvious, like in the case of Romeo and Paris, or Juliet and Rosaline, in other cases it s harder to see the contrast and the significance, as in the case of Romeo and Mercutio. The role of the foil characters in Romeo and Julietis also to show what could have happened if the protagonists had made different choices. Throughout Romeo and Juliet it is made clear that Romeo and Paris are foils as the both are in love Juliet and wish to marry her. However this often leads people to forgetting about Mercutio and his clear contrast with Romeo. We see their differing opinions clearly in Act 1, Scene 4, in which Mercutio tries to persuade Romeo to join them in crashing the Capulet s feast. Romeo takes love very seriously, pining and yearning for Rosaline, while Mercutio treats love as a joke and something to be wary of. When Romeo says he cannot join them because he feels too heavy hearted, Mercutio tells Romeo to borrow Cupid s wings, And soar with them above a common bound (1.4.18 19) Furthermore, when Romeo argues that love is rough, rude, boist rous, and ... Over-Sexization And Over-Sexualization Of Women In The Media Advertisements in today s society have become increasingly bold, daring and shocking, but that is one thing that has always stayed the same. The goal of an ad is to catch your eye using whatever marketing strategy worked at the time, now every ad is laced with sex appeal and porn like images of men and women, a great majority of the time it is women being put in these greatly sexual ads, they are placed in contorted poses, with little to no clothes, displaying a product, in certain ads men are also placed with the women but all too often they are in power positions. These ads are printed, posted, and shared all over the place, buses, buildings, malls, the internet, etc., but Due to how women are portrayed in mass media advertisements, over sexualization has become widely accepted and normalized, this has created harmful standards/stereotypes for women, teens, and young girls. • 11. Wave Interactions Wave Interactions Wave interactions include reflection, refraction, diffraction, and interference. Wave interactions occur when a wave hits something and it either reflects, refracts, diffracts, or there is an interference. Many different types of waves can be involved in wave interactions including sound, light, surface, etc. Reflection occurs when a particular wave, or waves, bounce, or reflect back from an object through which they cannot pass. An echo is a good example of a reflection wave interaction, but reflection can occur with other types of waves, too. Light waves can be reflected too. A light source, such as a light bulb or the sun, gives light to an object. That object reflects some of the light, and when the light that has been reflected hits one s eye, he or she could see the object. When waves hit an object, they reflect back in the same direction. Waves that are reflected have the same speed and frequency as the original wave, so only their direction is changed. On the other hand, when waves hit an object at an angle, they bounce at the same degree of angle, but in a different direction (CK 12 Foundation, 2017). The bending of waves as they pass from one form of matter to another is refraction. When light travels from an object to one s eyes, it makes the object seem to be in a different location. As waves access a new medium. they travel at a different rate in the alternative medium. For instance, light waves travel at a lower rate in water than in air. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While I cannot refute that the color of money is of a green hue, I can critique that the cost of all money is not the same. Her green money statement does not factor in the risk involved in projects. This view implies that a single hurdle rate may deprive an under profitable division of investments in order to channel more funds into a more profitable division. While this is sound logic, certain situation exist where projects will go unfunded that do create value to the company. Helen also goes on to explain that if one segment s hurdle rate is lower than the corporate hurdle rate, the company would be destroying shareholder value. The whole is a sum of its parts. What if Teletech has the opportunity to invest in a project that creates value at a hurdle rate below the firm wide 10.41%, but above the segment s hurdle rate? • 19. Stricter Gun Control Laws Do stricter gun control laws, equal less violence and death rates in America? Gun control (or firearms regulation) is the set of laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms by civilians (Wikipedia). Some presume that this means banning guns. In actuality, gun control only acts to protect citizens through enforcing the appropriate use of firearms; it does not ban the weapon. By implementing stricter gun laws and regulations, there would be a large decrease in death rates and help prevent violence in America. For instance, the United States Constitution Second Amendment declares that everyone has the right to bear arms . The United States Constitution was written with the intention of securing all United States citizens basic rights. Its purpose is to outline the laws of this country by mandating the powers of the people and what the United States government considers acceptable. Despite this, people feel the introduction of stricter gun control laws would deny them their sense of safety by violating their right to defend themselves by the law of the Second Amendment. By allowing everyone including criminals the ability to gain ownership of a weapon, increases violence and death rates in America. Therefore, stricter gun control laws and regulations should be implemented. Furthermore, many people feel that guns are not causing the problems, people that are using these weapons are. • 24. Revolutionary Militia Continental Army officers often criticized the militia s effectiveness. However, at the Battle of Saratoga, and during a campaign in 1780, the militia proved to be an essential fighting force. By the end of the war, General Washington and other officers in command used the continental militia as support for the regular army, thus proving the militias were a crucial component in achieving victory during the American Revolution. The militia was also required to set aside a portion of their soldiers and form them into new, special companies called minutemen. The minutemen were different from the militia because while the law required colonists dedicate service in their local militia, the minutemen assembled themselves from volunteers. The minutemen were a very small, specifically chosen, elite force required to be extremely mobile and capable to fight under short time constraints. Minutemen, chosen by militia commanders, joined this elite group of soldiers. Normally each minuteman was around twenty five or younger and was chosen for his enthusiasm, reliability, and physical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The militia companies had previously shown themselves incapable of fully meeting and defending themselves in an emergency. It was hardly surprising: they embraced almost all the able bodied men in town between sixteen and sixty. These citizen soldiers, dispersed on distant farms and busy with everyday chores, could not easily be called together to fight successfully. • 25. A Single, Comprehensive Solution For Environmental Challenges A single, comprehensive solution to environmental challenges does not exist. The subject matter of the environment is interdisciplinary and entails diverse sets of strategies and solutions. Historically, collective action solutions have focused on conventional governmental regulations or privatization. It operates under the assumption that under the established apparatus of government and private institutions, individuals could join cooperative efforts and contribute to the cause. Hardin argued for the centralized administration of resources by governmental agencies or the privatization of the commons and allow the private enterprise to manage the common as it sees fit (Hardin 1968). Nobel prizing winning economist, Elinor Ostrom disputed such claims, asserting that governments have large agendas and cannot consider local environmental problems and some resources such as water and air cannot be privatized. Ostrom insists that the state or the market cannot be successful in ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources (Ostrom 1990). According to Ostrom and her research, an alternative approach to the problem of the commons is community mobilization, or polycentric governance. The alternative approach is characterized by multiple cooperative independent institutions organized and governed under a general system of rules. The citizens and officials of the community all come together to jointly chart the priorities and management of their local resources, while balancing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Media Log Essay Media Logs On the weekday, September 8th, I had no plans other than to go to my 11:00 a.m. class and to make the hour long drive to go to my home town later that night. I had no middle of the day plans, so I spent my day relaxing and watching internet shows on Netflix. Later, I took some time to text my stepfather, because my car broke down. Once I got my car mobile, I sang along to the radio while I drove home. A week later, September 17th on a weekend day, I used the same types of media again. I spent a few hours watching Netflix, until I became motivated to study for the exams I had to take the next day. Then I studied for the rest of the day, using google to help me define and look up information. Late that night I song along to the radio while I shower and decided to keep it playing as I fell asleep. Although I did different activities through the days, both days I used many of the same media types, and most were around the same time of day. On these days, the media that took up most the time was watching Netflix. I spent about 2 hours and 30 minutes each day watching the online shows. The time I starting watching was roughly 1:00 p.m. and I did not watch any shows pasted 5:00 or 6:00 pm, on both days. Another media I used on both days is Snapchat, a form of social media. On both days, I used Snapchat close to when I woke up, and right before I went to bed. Snapchat wasn t the only media I used right before bed, although I used text messages at small amounts throughout both days, before bed I d text for a longer period, between 30 minutes to an hour. The radio was a very prevalent media but it was not consistent like the other media types at certain times of the day, only while I was driving, showering, or sleeping. Some of my media usage shocked me. It surprised me how much of my time I spent watching online shows. I reacted by being disappointed about what I spent my time doing compared to what I could have spent my time doing. I felt lazy, and embarrassed. Much of media used in both days were Netflix and the radio. Neither of these types of media are productive, or helped me accomplish anything. I used the medias for my entertainment. My roommate uses much more media than I do at one time. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Power of the Liberal Narrative Trudging through the mountains of facts, studies, and opinions relevant to social and political issues creates a daunting task for political strategists, leaving them to decide what information is relevant and essential for the voting public to know, in order to rally the voters to support a certain candidate. However, these mountains of facts and opinions can turn off voters, and scare away many potential supporters, forcing political strategists to also engage the emotional lives of the populace: enter the role of cultural narratives tales of adventure, sacrifice, defeat, and victory grabbing hold of the emotional lives of the audience, and as George Lakoff points out, ...politics is about the narratives of our culture and our... Having been forced off their land and with nowhere else to turn, Tom Joad, his family, and John Casey head to California with dreams of a better life, only to have these dreams smashed upon the rocks of corporate greed. The Joad family arrives to find the worker camps destitute and hungry, with no food even for the children of the camp, and with the works not allowed in town. It seems as though no area of California will present better options, for when the Joad family arrives at the first farm with work available there is a throng of workers on strike outside the farm because the wealthy ranch owners promised a wage of five cents a box, but with the overabundance of workers, the owners only offer two and a half cents per box: more underhanded industry on the part of big business. • 28. High Failure Rate In Healthcare There are an abundance of issues that contribute to the relatively high failure rate of IT projects in healthcare. I believe the primary reason for this high failure rate is the complexity of healthcare including complex and fluid processes and a varied workforce ranging from physician and nurse to lab technician and aide (Boonstra, Versluis, Vos, 2014). Another significant reason for this failure rate is the need for a paradigm shift to accept HIT in the healthcare setting and to be open to process changes/improvements (Shea Belden, 2016; Chiocchio, Rabbat, Lebel, 2015). As a nurse, I can attest that the overwhelming attitude toward HIT and changes/improvements is poor; nurses appear to like the status quo. Another issue that significantly contributes to HIT failures is the fact that healthcare is extremely legislated. All HIT projects need to meet security, confidentiality, and regulatory constraints (Boonstra et al., 2014). The Moral Ambivalence Of Crime And Criminology Crime and Criminology Essay It is common knowledge that crime exists all over the world and that justice and punishment may vary in different countries and societies. However, how justice and punishment is enforced in a society and globally is not common knowledge. Global justice refers to the belief that the world is unjust; while social justice, in a manner of speaking, refers to the fair treatment of everyone in a society.( Social Justice ). Both social and global justice value human rights, remove inequality, and holds people accountable for fair practices.( Social Justice ). If someone commits the same crime as another person, for example, they should receive the same punishment. That is what most people would be inclined to believe, but in the reading The Moral Ambivalence of Crime in an Unjust Society by Jeffrey Reiman, crime and justice is reviewed and defined in an uncommon way. Reiman discusses justice in a society where a crime was committed against him and his wife. A visit to France should be like a dream come true, an experience of a lifetime, but for Jeffrey Reiman and his wife it was not. In the summer of 2005, they visited a town called Nice. After traveling all night, the couple picked up a car that they were leasing for the summer. Before they could lock the doors to the car or even enjoy any of the accommodations, they were victimized. • 35. The Use Of Literary Devices In Hamlet By William Shakespeare To understand and grasp the concept of literature, one must be able to identify the many uses of literary devices. Literary devices act as a key factor in the translation one makes of difficult sentences conducted throughout a piece of literature, as well as act as a bridge to assist one in the analysis of the specific piece. In the play Hamlet, one literary device that is prominently used is that of metaphors. For example, the text s use of the sentencethe cock, that is the trumpet to the morn, doth with his lofty and shrill sounding throat Awake the god of day, and, at his warning, whether in sea or fire, in earth or air, (1.1.v.154 157) functions as a metaphor both literally and figuratively, by actually utilizing the rooster as a metaphor for the beginning of morning, while also using it as a symbol for a Holy substance. However, one might also argue and begin to claim that the crow of the rooster may symbolize the opposite, which is that the crow is the realization that one must have to come to their own terms of the wrong acts one has committed, and also pay the consequences. The use of the quote in the text brings to light one of the deeper meanings, which is that the rooster acts as a metaphor for the beginning of morning or just a new start in general. The rooster, and it s crow specifically means the start of a new day in the play. For example, when the rooster is introduced in the play in Act 1, scene i, it is because it lets out a crow, signaling to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Family structure can affect juvenile delinquency in numerous ways. Familystructure can include family support system, home environment, and family unity. The independent variable is family structure and the dependent variable is juvenile delinquency. Home environment plays a role in the production of juvenile delinquency. In effect, no longer we need to wait for the foreshadow of Jesus Christ, we no longer need to slain a sheep to cover our sins, we no longer need to seek God on an altar, as he dwells within us through the Holy Spirit. God has never given us a spirit of fear, rather a spirit of faith in Jesus Christ. Under those circumstances, when Jesus declared, I am the way, is the reason why Jews hated Him. As a result, they were intolerance with Him and Christians, until this day. The Bible speaks of Jesus Christ becoming the stumbling rock for the Jews by not accepting his vicarious death. In fact, the incredible thing about Jesus is that He is the way, the truth and the life no one comes to the father but through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Heroine is an active drug which can also be used in medicine to treat severe pain that results from heart attack or injuries; it is absorbed in the body as morphine. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The National Survey on Drug Use and Health reported that most drug users share needles that they use to inject themselves with while using heroin. Sharing of needles by heroin users is due to the fact that doctors and many pharmacy boards are not allowed to sell needles and syringes to unauthorized personnel, so the only avenue left for drug users is to share the available needles they have. This has contributed to spread of HIV aids among the heroin victims therefore exposing them to more health dangers. Infact, 30% of global HIV infections in Sub Saharan Africa are caused by sharing needles during drug injections, furthermore, heroin injection rose from 2% in 1993 to 15% in 2000. Heroin users and other drug addicts have been reported to be more exposed to unsafe sex a fact that have exposed them even more to these diseases. This analysis shows that heroin and drug use are among the factors that are causing HIV aids to increase in the world (Levert, 2005). Heroin not only affects people using the drug but, the problems also affect other people close to them too, it has an immense trickle down effect on society. The cost to the society is immense as indicated by the financial implications and the excessive use of healthcare resources to rehabilitate heroin addicts (White, 2009). The society also uses vast resources on funding law enforcement to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jude Medical antonymous and let them run their own business because Abbot Labs originally understood St. Jude Medical to be a leader in this medical device field. Now however, Abbott Labs needs to possibly reconsider how their subsidiary organizes their management. The problem St. Jude Medical is having right now is not only a device problem nor a cultural problem, but it is a management problem and their inability to properly handle possible recalls in the industry. Recalls are not uncommon, but it is how companies handle these recalls. Are they ahead of the game? Do they understand their products, and know what actions need to implement when things go wrong? Abbott Labs may have to take control of the management of St. Jude Medical. Abbott Labs has 211 executives and St. Jude Medical has many additional executives themselves (Unknown, 2015, para.2). There is a high probability that St. Jude Medical s executive team will be reduced as Abbott Labs becomes more involved in the day to day business of their new acquisition. The question is how far does Abbott Labs go down in the chain of command. Will they go as far as down as lower management, for example: Field Directors, or will they stand back and let St. Jude Medical manage their entire business? I believe Abbott Labs needs to change how St. Jude Medical runs their management style. There are too many signs that there is a lack of leadership within the organization. ... • 47. Post American World Essay Fareed Zakaria Post American World Book Review Few would disagree that the previous U.S. administration of George W. Bush Jr. plunged America s international reputation to an all time low. Even as the country staggers to recover international goodwill under President Barack Obama, a homegrown credit crisis, captured most strikingly in the collapse of several iconic institutions of American industry like Citigroup and General Motors, has brought the U.S. economy to a standstill. Few would doubt that America will eventually recover from both crises. Be that as it may, the unipolar moment, centered on the preeminence of American power, purse, and presence may well and truly be over, or so we are often told. What powers will take the place... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This new global order, Fareed is quick to remind, has in fact proven remarkably peaceful. While a conclusion that would perhaps be initially met with raised eyebrows, Fareed proceeds to explain this in a manner that makes eminent sense. For instance, he argues that Islamic threat is overrated and that the struggle between governments and terrorists will persist, but with the former holding the upper hand. For instance, he explains, Al Qaeda may have been a movement out to rally the entire Muslim world to jihad against the West, but the many variations within Islam undermine its ability to merge into a single monolithic force. He goes on to suggest that ideological watchdogs have focused so much on jihad rhetoric that they have ceased to take into account the actual Muslim societies which are frustrated with the fundamentalists, wish for modernity (that allows for dignity and cultural pride), and pursue practical solutions not martyrdom. Equally telling is his explanation for this artificial and unnecessary state of paranoia we live in. The problem, to him, lies in the mismatch between people s perception and fear of the danger (i.e. war, terrorism, organized violence) that allegedly surrounds them, and the actual reality. This, he argues, can be partly attributed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
