Les Demoiselles D Avignon
Les Demoiselles d Avignon Les Demoiselles d Avignon (The Young Ladies of Avignon, and
originally titled The Brothel of Avignon) is a large oil painting of 1907 by the Spanish artist
Pablo Ruiz Picasso (1881 1973). The work portrays five nude female prostitutes from a brothel on
AvinyГі Street in Barcelona. Each figure is depicted in a disconcerting confrontational manner and
none are conventionally feminine. The women appear as slightly menacing and rendered with
angular and disjointed body shapes. Two are shown with African mask like faces and three more
with faces in the Iberian style of Picasso s native Spain, giving them a savage aura. In this
adaptation of Primitivism and abandonment of perspective in favor of a flat, two dimensional...

While he already had a considerable following by the middle of 1906, Picasso enjoyed further
success with his paintings of massive over sized nude women, monumental sculptural figures
that recalled the work of Paul Gauguin and showed his interest in primitive (African,
Micronesian, Native American) art. He began exhibiting his work in the galleries of Berthe
Weill (1865 1951) and Ambroise Vollard, (1866 1939) quickly gaining a growing reputation and
a following amongst the artistic community of Montparnasse. Picasso became a favorite of the
American art collectors Leo Stein (1872 1947), and his sister Gertrude Stein (1876 1946),
around 1905. The Steins older brother Michael and his wife Sarah also became collectors of his
work. Picasso painted portraits of both Gertrude Stein and her nephew Allan Stein.] Gertrude
Stein began acquiring Picasso s drawings and paintings and exhibiting them in her informal
Salon at her home in Paris. At one of her gatherings in 1905 he met Henri Matisse (1869 1954),
who was to become in those days his chief rival, although in later years a close friend. The Steins
introduced Picasso to Claribel Cone (1864 1929), and her sister Etta Cone (1870 1949), also
American art collectors, who began to acquire Picasso and Matisse s

Micro-Economic Impacts on Tesco Plc
1.0 Introduction
In this essay we are going to evaluate the micro economic factors on the activities and performance
of Tesco.
Tesco Plc (2011) states, that the retail industry is a highly competitive environment. Tesco
competes with a wide variety of retailers of varying sizes and faces increased competition from
UK retailers as well as international operators in the UK and overseas. Failure to compete with
competitors on areas including price, product range, quality and service could have an adverse
effect on the organisations financial results. Tesco aims to have a broad appeal on price, range and
store format in a way that allows them to compete in different markets. There is a risk that Tesco
may not deliver their stated strategy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
5.0 Barriers to Entry
Barriers to entry are the means by which Tesco s potential competitors are blocked out. Due to
Tesco s monopolistic characteristics, Tesco will be able to enjoy higher profits in the long run as
rivals have not diluted market share. Three barriers of entry are:
Patents are legal property rights to prevent the entry of rivals. They are generally valid for an
average of 20 years and give Tesco the right to prevent competitors from using patented products.
Tesco can sell licences to competitors for a stated fee.
Using Advertising and Marketing Tesco have developed customerloyalty; their club card has
played a pivotal role in their customer loyalty. Thus making demand less sensitive to price; due to
advertising leading to an outward shift in demand.
Tesco engage in brand proliferation, as it is a firm which sells a vast range of products, this may
portray Tesco differently to consumers. This is common barriers to entry in these types of markets
as it is non price competitions for household good.
6.0 Porter s Five Forces
In order to evaluate the competitive environment surrounding Tesco, I shall utilise Porter s five
forces model illustrated in figure 2.

Starsong Comparison Essay
Both short stories StarSong written by Fred Saberhagen and Bullard Reflects written by Malcolm
Jameson reflect the ideas of both Science Fiction authorities Kathryn Cramer and David Hartwell.
Cramer s idea of Fate versus Free will and Hartwell s idea on Intellect over Irrationality are ideas
that are prevalent in both short stories. In the short storyStarSong, written by Fred Saberhagen, a
story is told about the history of mankind s ages long war with the berserker war machines. Ercul,
a cybernetic psychologist is involved with the work on the production of Culture Brains . Culture
Brains are used as models for regrowth through the idea of being able to replace a human brain

Berserkers have been suspected for capturing humans in their world called Hell and have been
doing experiments on them. These experiments have been in progress because Berserkers have
tried to incorporate human brains into their own circuitry (Saberhagen 344). Ercul had gone off
to talk about a story that occurred about a year before revolving around a married couple. The
marriage was between Ordell Callison, a famous musician and singer whose fan base revolved
many young girls, and Eury. The backstory given about Ordell shows the idea of Cramer s
acknowledgment to the past and present . Ordell was known for his amazing voice that had the
ability to light up a room. However, this story takes a fateful turn once Ordell finds out that Eury
has crashed into Hell and is most likely captured. Ordell chooses to go and pursue his one and true
love Eury, Hartwell s idea of Intellect over Irrationality is portrayed in this decision making. Ordell
chose to run off to Hell which shows irrationally rather than rational through thought and
intelligence. Arriving at Hell and being greeted by Berserkers Ordell

Newell Company Case Summary
The Newell Company (Newell) uses acquisitions as the foundation of its growth strategy, and in
1998 the firm looked to acquire Rubbermaid Incorporated (Rubbermaid). The deal would consist
of an exchange of shares between the two companies and allow for a significant level of growth
for Newell. However, the directors of Newell are questioning whether or not the acquisition of
Rubbermaid matches the strategic vision of the firm and if it will add value to the firm s
shareholders. The analysis of Newell s corporate strategy leads to a recommendation that the
firm should acquire Rubbermaid. Newell will be able to capture Rubbermaid s unrealized profit
due to poor customer relations, operations and culture. These factors will be improved by Newell
s existing resources and capabilities via its Newellization process. The benefits realized by Newell
far outweigh the price to purchase Rubbermaid; the acquisition aligns with Newell s strategic vision
of growth and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The acquisition will Increase Newell s product scope, resulting in benefits realized through
diversification. Newell and Rubbermaid have related operations, thus industry wide factors
affecting Newell would also affect the Rubbermaid product line. However, the acquisition would
still allow for growth through expansion of product offerings, i.e., through Graco , Little Tikes
and Curver . The aforementioned brands are positioned in a different way and have a further
degree of separation from the traditional Newell brands, reducing relatedness and helping to
mitigate the risk of a combined company. The revenue would increase in all sectors; Hardware and
Home Furnishings, Office Products and Housewares; and the costs would be reduced because of

Writing Assignment 2. My Writing Assignment Is To Explain
Writing Assignment 2 My writing assignment is to explain nonverbal communication messages
expressed by nonlinguistic means . (Adler et al 431) so that you may understand that verbal
communication is just a small part of the communication process and that through nonverbal
communication you can communicate without even using words or by the way you say the words.
Let me warn you that you need to be very careful when trying to interpret nonverbal communication
, because nonverbal communicationcan be ambiguous. What I mean by that is nonverbal
communication can have more than one meaning as you will see later in this writing assignment. I
was challenged to watch 3 episodes of my favorite TV show, in which I chose The Big Bang
Theory, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is also referred to as proxemics. Leaning in, stepping back or walking away are examples of
the use of space.
While watching The Big Bang Theory, one of the channels of nonverbal communication I
noticed was facial displays. When Leonard and Penny were discussing the upcoming Comic Con
convention they were planning on attending, Leonard was showing Penny places they were
going to stay and sleep. He was smiling and you could definitely tell it was a fake smile. Penny
was also wearing a fake smile the whole time. I interpreted this as Leonard really trying to get
Penny not to go to the convention with him by showing her she would have a terrible time. I
believe Penny was using the fake smile to show Leonard that she was excited about the trip,
although she really didn t want to go. The fake smiles they were both wearing are an example of
the sub content of the facial display channel.
The second channel of nonverbal communication I noticed was gestures. This was when Leonard
was skyping his mother Beverly and she was suggesting that Leonard and Penny where having
marital problems because they were inviting Raj to come live with them. Leonard puts his hand on
his forehead and slumped over his desk. The act of placing his hand on his forehead and slumping
over are examples of the sub content of the gestures channel of nonverbal communication. I feel he
was showing his anger and that he disagreed with

In today s society, digital technology became an important part of our daily lives. Advanced
technologies such as smart phones, improved the connection and engagement with people around
the world, and easily accessed information throughout the internet. However, many critics argued
that these technology are causing negative influences among teenagers; for instances, many
pointed out that texting affect the way we think and write, in which I strongly disagreed. There
are no connection or comparison among texting and writing. As texting became an important role

Changing Perspective
People, especially diverse people of contemporary times commonly look at other people, situations,
or life events with different perspectives. Sometimes looking at other people, situations, and life
events with different perspectives cause people to make snap judgments without factual knowledge.
Contributors such as personal beliefs, religion, culture, mood, personality, and relative situations
can influence an interpretation of a person or event, cause a snap judgment, or possibly change
another perspective. Other contributors that add influence to the common influences of perspectives
and judgments are environments and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The woman s personal beliefs can be innate from learning experiences or a genetic inheritance that
reflects her personality type. Innate learning experiences or genetic inheritances of accepting people
of any race is possible in making a snap judgment to rent the apartment to the multiracial family.
The family inquiring about the apartment rental may have an influence regarding the woman s
mood too. Something in the situation such as politeness and enjoying the company of the children
in the family may have set the motion for the woman s mood. Another spark in the woman s mood
can be a reflection of her own children and family situations. Remembering her past, for example,
maybe the woman and her husband are immigrants from the Old World and difficulties with living
arrangements were part of her early family experiences. Another example of personal experience
can be knowledge to a similar situation quite rewarding in one way or another. Religiously the
woman in the scenario can similarly view the situation as going against the grain but from a
different perspective such as going against the grain of her higher power and accepting all
individuals. Many factors contribute to what influences individual perspectives and subsequent
judgments according to the perspectives. Commonly one influence can lead to another influence,
for example, innateness, and

How Is Adversity Shown In The Great Gatsby
Napoleon Hill once stated, Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed
of an equal or greater benefit. From George Washington to Nelson Mandela, greatness is
cultivated from adversity during turbulent times. Horace s assertion is correct in view of the fact
that adversity causes people to act, reveals vulnerabilities, and forces people to adapt. Notably,
people are disinclined to fix what is not broken, only when faced with an obstacle do they act.
For example, in the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gatsby s desire for the love of
Daisy Buchanan was the impetus for his quest to live an affluent life through any means possible.
He would not have taken advantage of his resources if not faced with the complication of how to
procure Daisy s attention. In brief, without a challenge people will be unable to find a way to
utilize their talents.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Likewise, adversity causes one to search for and reveal the vulnerabilities of their enemy. For
example, in William Golding s The Lord of the Flies , Ralph showed the other children on the
island the flaws in Jack s plan of survival and that they needed to create a judicious plan if they
wanted to return to civilization. Ralph demonstrated the flaws of his antagonist to his audience, and
while the audience retained civility they were able to reason that Ralph was correct. When faced
with adversity, people will find the flaws of their foes and utilize them to enhance

* Train employees in fraud awareness, security measures and ethical issues Fraud awareness
training is one of the main tenets of a fraud strategy. Educating staff in respect of what to look for
and how fraud happens empowers them to take the necessary action to mitigate the risk of it
occurring or, when it does occur, address it in the correct way. All staff benefit from fraud
awareness training. The more staff that are educated, the more eyes and ears you have to protect the
organization s assets. Organizations should regularly communicate to staff a clear definition of the
types of behavior that constitute fraud or corruption, the fraud detection measures that are in place
and an unequivocal statement that fraud and corruption within the organization will not be
tolerated. The primary purpose of fraud training is to assist in the prevention and control of fraud by
raising the general level of awareness amongst all employees. Recommendations and
Implementation: I am recommending to improve the internal control and train employees in fraud
awareness. Improving internal control can be done by developing a strong system of internal
controls that implement a proper segregation of duties between systems function. They should also
require transactions and activities to be authorized by appropriate supervisory and have the system
authenticate the person, and their right to perform the transaction before allowing transaction to
take place. They should have

Politics In Allen Guelzo s House Divided
The first of the two sources to be examined here is Allen Guelzo s House Divided: Lincoln,
Douglas, and the Political Landscape of 1858. This source took a more technical examination of
not just the speeches and overall influence of Lincoln during this time, but also on where politics
stood around the middle of the nineteenth century. To begin with, this source took a more critical
examination at the Lincoln Douglas race from the perspective of the complex political situation
that was inherent during this time. That is to say, the campaigns that were waged were not merely
about how viable each candidate was for office, but rather the philosophical differences between
these individuals and many others, according to the source. This means that the source was able to
take a closer look at why Abraham Lincoln, as well as Douglas, actually believed what they did.
This retrospective aspect of the source allowed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was a great deal of emotion inherent within politics and this oftentimes boiled over during
senate hearings and other events. This is one element of politics that is effectively demonstrated by
the source here because it is able to utilize quotes and tie these quotes to some of the most
important singular elements of character within these individuals. In the process, the author is able
to create something of a profile within each of these major historical figures, and this is important
because it allows each of these figures to represent a different priority or concept within politics in
general. As such, there are a number of clashing ideals within politics that are effectively mentioned
in this source, although, it should be noted, the source is comparatively shorter and as a result,
many of these philosophies and concepts simply are not given the attention they

The Fundamental Concept Of The Finite Element Method
The fundamental concept of the finite element method is that a physical domain is discretised
into a small number of sub domains, known as elements, over which a continuous field variable
such as velocity, stress, pressure, or temperature can be approximated. These elements are
connected at specific points known as nodes or nodal points. Since the actual variation of the
field variable is not known inside the domain, approximating functions are needed to describe
this variation. These approximating functions interpolate the values of the field variable at the
nodal points of each element. Since the geometric and the required material properties of each
element are known, suitable field equations can be easily developed. From preliminary design

Asian Americans may also be discouraged to go into pre collegiate teaching because they feel a
sense of personal inadequacy. In the United States, school is seen as a social service mission, where
teachers, who are primarily female, are tasked to teach students, especially those from working class

on schooling. This tradition brings schooling to the local community with preexisting hierarchies.

human emotions can create fear because we become captivated in the characters feelings. In The
Fall of the House of Usher, the narrator, Roderick, and Madeline transform. The narrator notices
increasing madness of Usher as his skin grows whiter, his normal routine was forgotten, and he
roamed through the house or stared into space for hours. The Narrator is frightened because he
believes he is beginning to feel infected by Usher s condition. The Narrator fears that he too may
be going mad. These feelings... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this unit stories acquire houses transforming. The story House Taken Over contains mystery as
a stranger walks in and creates an evil and uncertain atmosphere. The stranger explains that it was
always dark in the house when he lived there. After the stranger left, the house began to transform
into what the stranger described. The living room lights flickered, the wallpaper seemed drained
of color, and the carpet fading...The door frame had receded an inch or two. The house
transforming elicits fear because we don t feel comfortable when the house start to change
especially after a strange man entered with peculiar requests. In The Fall of the House of Usher the
house also transforms when the house implodes on itself and creates a dark mood. These houses
transformation frightens us as they create dark and disturbing

Pros And Cons Of Physical Abuse
Physical abuse includes the physical assault, battery, and sexual assault used as part of a
systematic pattern of power and control perpetrated by one intimate partner against another.
Physical abuse can cause severe injury and even death. It often co occurs with other forms of
abuse, including psychological abuse, economic abuse, and stalking. There are a broad range of
behaviours that come under the heading of physical abuseincluding actions such as punching;
slapping; hitting; biting; pinching; kicking; pulling hair out; pushing; shoving; burning and
strangling. It should be noted that strangulation is the most common method of intimate partner
homicide .

Seeking treatment is unlikely for a majority of people that are physically abused, and the ones who
are seeking treatment are usually under some form of legal constraint. The prevention and treatment
options for physically abused children include: enhancing positive experiences early in the
development of the parent child relationship, as well as changing how parents teach, discipline, and
attend to their children.
Evidence based interventions include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as well as video
feedback interventions and child parent psychodynamic psychotherapy; all of which specifically
target anger patterns and distorted beliefs, and offer training and/or reflection, support, and
modelling that focuses on parenting skills and expectations, as well as increasing empathy for the
child by supporting the parent s taking the child s perspective.
These forms of treatment may include training in social competence and management of daily
demands in an effort to decrease parental stress, which is a known risk factor for physical abuse.
Although these treatment and prevention strategies are to help children and parents of children
who have been abused, some of these methods can also be applied to adults who have physically

Glyphosate Essay
n regard to exposure to glyphosate and chemicals used in GMO products, the World Health
Organization conducted a study to analyze crops treated with this particular chemical. The
Organization concluded that glyphosate cannot be washed out of crops. Glyphosate cannot be
removed from a crop even through cooking and cleaning methods. (Organic Consumer s
Association) In addition, the Organization found a correlation that the more GMO RoundUp
herbicide is sprayed on crop fields, the more residue that builds up over time. This leads to
increased exposure to operators handling the herbicide, especially when they neglect to wear
protective gear while spraying crops. (Organic Consumer s Association) This is why opponents
want Non GMO products. Since the organization has claimed that glyphosatecannot be washed or
cooked out of the crop, this is a good reason why the public is demanding Non GMO foods.
Therefore, the consumer believes that it can be dangerous to consume these foods. Local farmers
organic crops can suffer from exposure to GMO seeds due to environmental elements such as wind
that can transpose seeds, which ruins the natural element within the organic crop. Aside from this
occurrence, when GMO seeds become too resistant to herbicides such as RoundUp Ready, an
increase use of pesticides is needed to prevent insects from contaminating the product. (Indiana

Automatic Stroooding
The aim of this experiment was to test how the automatic processing of reading interferes with the
controlled processing of naming a colour. The findings support the original previous research
(Stroop, 1935) as a significant difference was found which indicates that when the controlled
process of naming a colour is not interfered with then it can be recognized faster whereas when the
automatic processes of reading words is involved then the time taken to name the colour is slower
due to the interference.
The results also support Teccee Happ, 1964, whose experiment used a different method of using
colour cards instead of non words but still helped to support their conclusions. They found that
participants responded faster with matching the colour with the colour cards as there was no
automatic process involved compared to the participants who had to match the colour ink of the
word to the colour card. This took the participants longer due to the interference of the automatic
process of reading which was what this experiment also found, further supporting the automatic
process interference theory.

coloured or the entire word coloured and asked to name the colour they saw. According to the
automaticity theory there would be interference in time taken to name the colours as the participant
would automatically read the word. However, it was found that the interference was heavily
reduced in the letter condition. They concluded that because the letter condition was an alternative
mindset they were able to ignore their typical mindset of reading the word. This leaves room for
discussion on what conditions would a person leave their typical mind set of reading a word to an

Berlin Wall Analysis
Identification and Evaluation of Sources The investigation will answer the question of What lead
to the construction of the Berlin Wall? The construction of the Berlin Wall is a significant part
of history that needs to be properly investigated to understand the motives and impacts it had on
the citizens of Berlin and the people of the world. This investigation will focus on analyzing
valuable sources such as Berlin: The Wall is not Forever, The Ghosts of Berlin: Confronting
German History in the Urban Landscape, and Daily Life Behind the Iron Curtain. These sources
have detailed accounts of the daily lives of those impacted as well as other relevant information
both before and after, relating to the events that may have led to the construction or the impact that
the fall of the wall had on the citizens of Berlin. Berlin: The Wall is not Forever by Eleanor Dulles
is a book about the construction of the Berlin Walland it has a focus on the question of whether or
not the wall will come down. The book describes the wall and the impact it had on the citizens
for Berlin. The book also provides information about Berlin before the wall was built to give an
idea of the reasoning behind the construction. The value of this source is that the book was
written shortly after the time that the wall was built so it is from a similar perspective which
helps to feel what the people of Berlin felt and to feel what the rest of the world felt. A limitation of

Robotic Exploration And Human Exploration
Ahhh. Robots. Some may think they are creepy and some may be fascinated by how they work.
But how do robots come in handy when exploring space? Robots come in handy when exploring
space because of the fact that robots can travel further than a human and they also don t need as
many necessities as a human does. People may have different opinions about sending robots
versus humans to space. I am in fact one of those people that have a different opinion. I go back
and forth with believing that well robots are better. Then I believe that humans are better. When a
robot goes to space there is more of a possibility of finding new life. A robot detects certain things
that humans don t. Robotic exploration is necessary to enable human exploration by setting the
context, providing critical information, and reducing the risk to humans. When sending a human
info space that can take months maybe even years of training. And when sending a robot to space
that may take months even years to build. A robot may also cost A LOT more than a human. I
really can t make up my mind if robots or humans are better. Some of the biggest achievements of
robotic exploration include Ceres, Vesta, and New Horizons.
One of the robots that is up in space is called New Horizons. New Horizons is an interplanetary
space probe that was launched as a part of NASA s New Frontiers program. New Horizons
travelled to Pluto. Well it flew past Pluto in July 14, 2015. New Horizons was launched January
19, 2006. The goal of New Horizons launch was to Answer questions about Pluto, its moons, and
Kuiper Belt Objects. New Horizons mission has found evidence of exotic ices flowing across
Pluto s surface. The bluish white coloring featured on Pluto tell us that there is exotic ices. Pluto
undergoes climate variation and sometimes, when Pluto is a little warmer, the methane ice begins
to basically evaporate away. Some of the other surprising things found out about Pluto is that it
has a young surface and it has some mountain ranges. New Horizons only flew by Pluto, which
means it did not settle into a nice orbit. This is because Pluto is not big enough to have a
gravitational pull on New Horizons. When sending a robot up to space you have to keep in mind

Resistance in a Wire Coursework
Resistance in a Wire Coursework In this investigation we are trying to look for resistance in a
piece of wire, and how the length of a wire can increase or decrease the resistance. The things that
affect the resistance in a wire are: the length of the wire a certain amount of wire cross sectional
area of the wire (thickness) temperature material What things can affect the resistance in a wire?
The temperature can affect the resistance in a wire, because the more thermal energy a component
has the more the atoms within it will vibrate and get in the path of the free electrons, so the higher
the temperature, more resistance is being produced. Material can affect the resistance due to the

The thickness of the wire decreases. Once you have figured out the thickness of the wire (length
x width), you will be able to calculate the ohms law. Prediction My prediction for this experiment
is, once the length of the wire increases, so will the resistance. What my results show me My
results show me that once the readings on the ammeter and the voltage increase, so will the
resistance, because of this we decided to increase the length of wire used by 10cm each time a
reading was recorded. Method 1.Set up the series circuit. 2.Connect the crocodile clip to 30cm
along the wire. 3.Switch on the power supply. 4.Record readings from the ammeter and voltmeter.
5.Switch off the power supply. 6.Repeat the stages of 2 6 three times at length 30cm intervals up to
1 metre. What I did and why I kept my experiment a fair test in the following ways: I did not change
any parts of the circuit (wires, ammeter, voltmeter or battery pack) in between the measurements
this would have prevented small discrepancies between circuit components from affecting the
results. When taking the measurements from the voltmeter and ammeter, I waited for the reading
to settle completely. If it didn t settle, then I would have made an estimate of the middle value being
shown. Waiting for the reading to settle prevented accidentally taking a reading while the value is
fluctuating randomly when the power is first turned

Essay on Symbols, Symbolism, and Allegory in Hawthorne s...
Symbols, Symbolism, and Allegory in Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
Symbolism is a literary technique that is used to clarify the author s intent. Sometimes it is used to
great effect, while other times it only seems to muddle the meaning of a passage. In Young
Goodman Brown, Nathaniel Hawthorne uses objects and people as symbols to allegorically reveal
his message to the reader.
Nathaniel Hawthorne uses different people as symbols throughout Young Goodman Brown. The
largest symbolic roles in the story are goodman Brown and his wife Faith. Both of the characters
names are symbolic and representative of their personalities. With Heaven above and Faith below, I

Hawthorne does an excellent job of turning the main characters into symbols that are prominent
throughout the story.
Nathaniel Hawthorne also uses different objects in the story as symbols. One of these is the staff
of the devil : But the only thing about him, that could be fixed upon as remarkable, was his staff,
which bore the likeness of a great black snake . . . (185). This symbol shows the reader the evil
that is involved with the devil character because the serpent is an archetype of the devil, or some
sort of evil, which is prominent in many different cultures. Another object Hawthorne uses as a
recurring symbol is the pink ribbon. The pink ribbon symbolizes the purity and innocence
involved with Faith. And Faith . . . thrust her own pretty had into the street, letting the wind play
with the pink ribbons in her cap, is a great example of how Hawthorne correlates Faith with the
pink ribbons of innocence (184). The pink ribbons are mentioned later on in the story as they fall
from the sky: But something fluttered lightly down through the air, and caught on the branch of a
tree. The young man seized it, and beheld a pink ribbon. (189). This symbolizes Brown s loss of
his Faith, referring to both his wife and his faith in mankind, as she hovers over toward the devil s
gathering.
Another element in Young Goodman Brown that is related to symbolism is allegory. The story is
an excellent example of

Second Great Awakening Movement
A second great awakening emerged toward the end of the eighteenth century in New England.
Unlike the first great awakening, this movement of the Holy Spirit used intellectual institutions of
higher learning as the spark that ignited this awakening that eventually spread across this new
nation. Yale University with its president, Timothy Dwight, the grandson of Jonathan Edwards is
seen as one ignition points of this movement. The early fruit of this movement included the
founding of many organizations dedicated to making the gospel known across this new land and
across the globe. Mission organizations such as the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign
Missions are seen as a direct fruit of this movement.
Another important outcome of this movement is seen in the breaking down of ethnic origins and
religious affiliations. In other words, as immigrants flooded into America and moved west into the
new frontier, religious affiliations they brought with them faded away. An example of how this
worked is seen in the Methodist camp meetings and the circuit riding Methodist preachers who
brought the gospel into these new areas and to the new citizens living in these areas. These camp
meetings often lasted for days with many coming to the Lord as the Holy Spirit moved across and
through this new land. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Interesting Features of Ancient Civilizations
Question: Try to imagine what it was like to live during that time and in that place. What was it that
caused the transition from Neolithic life to civilization? What were some of the major features of
those civilizations that you found interesting? One of the most interesting features of ancient
civilizations was the extent to which topography influenced cultural worldviews and practices. For
example, in the case of the Sumerians, they possessed a highly evolved and complex culture, as
manifested in the philosophical depth of their Epic of Gilgamesh. However, the openness of the
land in which they lived to invaders made them vulnerable as did the propensity of the land to
catastrophic flooding. This may be one of the reasons why they did not create as politically and
architecturally complex a society as Egypt or Greece. It also likely affected the relatively dark
worldview expressed in Gilgamesh. However, despite the susceptibility to invasions, subsequent
civilizations in the area, like the Babylonians, created ways of tracking the stars and other valuable
methods of observing and interpreting the world in a scientific fashion that were to become the
building blocks of modern civilizationin other areas. In contrast to Mesopotamia, Egypt had the
advantage of a regular, predictable source of fertilization of its soil in the form of the Nile. This
stable source of food enabled the creation of one of the world s great empires. The pharaoh was

Prior Appropriation
The dust settled as the last vehicle departed the newly established ghost town. What was once a
bustling rural community in eastern Colorado, complete with a school and church, and businesses
off the main street, has become deserted due to a lack of water. This has become an all too
familiar scene in rural communities across Colorado as the increasing demand for water and the
dwindling water supply pits water users against one another. The state s free market style of
appropriating water, known as prior appropriation, allows for this highly competitive, and often
detrimental situation to persist. As climate change and population growth continue to strain the
water supply in Colorado, it will be necessary to adjust the strict prior appropriation... Show more

The environment, and recreational activities that are essential to the outdoors, have also been
negatively impacted by this system for allocating water rights. The issue of whether or not this
system is equitable towards environmental protection has been raised because environmental
organizations typically do not have the same funds as other entities, such as cities and towns, oil,
gas, and energy companies, and manufacturing. Furthermore, as Jones and Cech point out,
environmental concerns continue to be underrepresented in Colorado water law and policy (p.
712). This has created a situation similar to agriculture, where environmental concerns become
second thoughts to those of M I, giving rise to environmental issues across the state. These
environmental issues can have an effect on residents throughout Colorado, from anglers who enjoy
healthy streams and rivers for fishing, to kayakers and rafters who need flowing rivers to recreate

The Importance Of Giftedness And Talent
The researcher observes that the DMGT differentiates between giftedness and talent in which
giftedness includes the possession and use of untrained outstanding natural abilities (called gifts),
in at least one ability domain, to a degree that places an individual at least among the top 10% of
age peers. Besides, It s clear in the figure that the natural abilities of the gifted have three domains;
intellectual domain which includes (general intelligence, numerical, verbal...), mental domain which
includes (creativity, fluency, leadership...) and physical domain which includes (perceptual, vision,
endurance, speed...) (GagnГ©, 2010).
On the other hand, Talent includes the outstanding mastery of developed competencies (knowledge
and skills) in at least one field of human activity to a degree that places an individual at least among
the top 10% of learning peers. The DMGT shows that when gifted uses his natural abilities to
interact with environment through catalysts and development processes, gifted becomes talented
with competency. Moreover, the first field of the competency is the academic field which includes
language and other fields of life such as technical, science and technology, arts, games and sports
(GagnГ©, 2010).
In sum, talent fields are related to subjects, academic activities and scientific applications in
different fields of life, including technology. Consequently, English subject and using technology

How You Demonstrate The Character Traits Traid In The Letter
1. Explain how you demonstrate the character traits mentioned in the letter. Honesty I dislike
lying. People whom are good liars frighten me. I don t admire them and I would even go as far as to
say they re dangerous. Their lack of morals shocks and worries me. I am the opposite. I watch my
words and make sure they are transparent and true. I do my best to prove as often as possible
that I am completely trustworthy. I fear lies because I do not like the idea of someone lying to
me. Lying is certainly not a positive thing. Leader I am an honorable leader because I always make
the best of others so they can reach their goals, as well as being honest to them at the same time.
I strive to reach my goals the most effective way for my peers and I. I will make sure my peers do
not give up, as well as I will make sure my peers do not give up, as well as myself not giving up
either. I will not stay satisfied if I know that we, ladies of distinction, can do even better. I will
keep us going and help everyone so we can work as a team. Trustworthy I want to be the type of
friend someone can come to and be able to tell me their worries without worrying I ll tell anyone
else. If a secret needs to be kept, then kept it will be. I would not want to ruin my friendship or
anyone else s friendship because of a secret I told. The only exception would be if it s something
that could hurt that person or others. I would convince them to stop whatever they re doing and if

Compare And Contrast The Outsiders Book And Movie
The OUTSIDERS , a book and movie, portrays a small gang going through hard times. The Book
and Movie may have the same plot but have small yet noticeable differences. Both stories take
place around Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1965. These should be compared to show why sometimes
movies get things wrong and why the book tends to be better, in this case they both stick to the
plot with only a few missing or added details, such as the book is slower paced but has more
detail, the movie misses or adds small details, and the movie destroys your thought of what
characters look like.
The movie is fairly similar to the book except for a few exceptions. One of the main things is that
the movie is less detailed and is faster paced. Another thing is that pony never went to the hospital

The most important steps in all this are the definition, development, and refinement of the data
model, which mostly involves treatment of the records being created or managed (Stephens, 2007).
Information systems are developed according to system development methodologies, including
those that organizations use to implement the electronic signature as required by the statutory
bodies; which govern production and augmentation of existing records. The records life cycle
usually exceeds the system development life cycle. When it does the organization involved needs to
retain the particular record for a period of time longer than the life of the electronic information
system that generated the electronic signature. However, this presents special challenges, such as
maintaining the integrity of record in case of system migration.

For these exams, one computes each note as they would for a lecture. And through this I discovered
the Cornell note taking method and thought it would be a good way to organize college notes.
Reading it covers the entire paragraph or section. It is important to enter having checked certain
qualities. Marking the text ensures that you understand the context of that part of the reading well
enough to decide what s actually of importance that you would want to be able to easily find it
again afterwards. Readings as being described are interrogative towards the text, but when
interrogation becomes too laborious it may become an issue, so long as you sway away from

Rhetoric in Jfk and Mlk Jr. s Speeches

In the 1960 s, civil rights were becoming a very present and evident concern to the people of
America once again. Issues were being brought up to leaders that could and had the authority to

Let both sides unite to heed, in all corners of the earth, the command of Isaiah to undo the heavy
burdens, and [to] let the oppressed go free.
Here in this passage you can see Kennedy using the phrase let both sides, which entails all nations
to rise up to the calling for world peace and prosperity.
In Martin Luther King Jr. s I Have A Dream speech, King also uses rhetorical strategies to appeal to
his audience.

the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self evident: that all men are created equal.
This is appealing to pathos because a dream deals with emotion and feelings that you wish to
happen or carry out.
Ethos is present in King s speech when he states: We must forever conduct our struggle on the high
plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical
violence. It really says a lot when King can effectively communicate his ideas on peace while
maintaining that he is against violence.
We can see the logos Martin Luther King Jr. uses when he refers to Lincoln s promise to our
country that was left unfulfilled.
Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the
Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous

  • 3. Les Demoiselles D Avignon Les Demoiselles d Avignon Les Demoiselles d Avignon (The Young Ladies of Avignon, and originally titled The Brothel of Avignon) is a large oil painting of 1907 by the Spanish artist Pablo Ruiz Picasso (1881 1973). The work portrays five nude female prostitutes from a brothel on AvinyГі Street in Barcelona. Each figure is depicted in a disconcerting confrontational manner and none are conventionally feminine. He began exhibiting his work in the galleries of Berthe Weill (1865 1951) and Ambroise Vollard, (1866 1939) quickly gaining a growing reputation and a following amongst the artistic community of Montparnasse. Picasso became a favorite of the American art collectors Leo Stein (1872 1947), and his sister Gertrude Stein (1876 1946), around 1905. The Steins older brother Michael and his wife Sarah also became collectors of his work. Picasso painted portraits of both Gertrude Stein and her nephew Allan Stein.] Gertrude Stein began acquiring Picasso s drawings and paintings and exhibiting them in her informal Salon at her home in Paris. At one of her gatherings in 1905 he met Henri Matisse (1869 1954), who was to become in those days his chief rival, although in later years a close friend. Three barriers of entry are: Patents are legal property rights to prevent the entry of rivals. They are generally valid for an average of 20 years and give Tesco the right to prevent competitors from using patented products. Tesco can sell licences to competitors for a stated fee. From George Washington to Nelson Mandela, greatness is cultivated from adversity during turbulent times. Horace s assertion is correct in view of the fact that adversity causes people to act, reveals vulnerabilities, and forces people to adapt. Notably, people are disinclined to fix what is not broken, only when faced with an obstacle do they act. For example, in the novel The Great Gatsby by F. All staff benefit from fraud awareness training. The more staff that are educated, the more eyes and ears you have to protect the organization s assets. Since the actual variation of the field variable is not known inside the domain, approximating functions are needed to describe this variation. The construction of the Berlin Wall is a significant part of history that needs to be properly investigated to understand the motives and impacts it had on the citizens of Berlin and the people of the world. This investigation will focus on analyzing valuable sources such as Berlin: The Wall is not Forever, The Ghosts of Berlin: Confronting German History in the Urban Landscape, and Daily Life Behind the Iron Curtain. These sources have detailed accounts of the daily lives of those impacted as well as other relevant information both before and after, relating to the events that may have led to the construction or the impact that the fall of the wall had on the citizens of Berlin. Berlin: The Wall is not Forever by Eleanor Dulles is a book about the construction of the Berlin Walland it has a focus on the question of whether or not the wall will come down. The book describes the wall and the impact it had on the citizens for Berlin. The book also provides information about Berlin before the wall was built to give an idea of the reasoning behind the construction. The value of this source is that the book was written shortly after the time that the wall was built so it is from a similar perspective which helps to feel what the people of Berlin felt and to feel what the rest of the world felt. • 26. Robotic Exploration And Human Exploration Ahhh. Robots. Some may think they are creepy and some may be fascinated by how they work. But how do robots come in handy when exploring space? Robots come in handy when exploring space because of the fact that robots can travel further than a human and they also don t need as many necessities as a human does. People may have different opinions about sending robots versus humans to space. I am in fact one of those people that have a different opinion. I go back and forth with believing that well robots are better. Then I believe that humans are better. When a robot goes to space there is more of a possibility of finding new life. A robot detects certain things that humans don t. Robotic exploration is necessary to enable human exploration by setting the context, providing critical information, and reducing the risk to humans. When sending a human info space that can take months maybe even years of training. And when sending a robot to space that may take months even years to build. A robot may also cost A LOT more than a human. I really can t make up my mind if robots or humans are better. Some of the biggest achievements of robotic exploration include Ceres, Vesta, and New Horizons. One of the robots that is up in space is called New Horizons. New Horizons is an interplanetary space probe that was launched as a part of NASA s New Frontiers program. New Horizons travelled to Pluto. Well it flew past Pluto in July 14, 2015. New Horizons was launched January 19, 2006. The goal of New Horizons launch was to Answer questions about Pluto, its moons, and Kuiper Belt Objects. New Horizons mission has found evidence of exotic ices flowing across Pluto s surface. The bluish white coloring featured on Pluto tell us that there is exotic ices. Pluto undergoes climate variation and sometimes, when Pluto is a little warmer, the methane ice begins to basically evaporate away. Some of the other surprising things found out about Pluto is that it has a young surface and it has some mountain ranges. New Horizons only flew by Pluto, which means it did not settle into a nice orbit. This is because Pluto is not big enough to have a gravitational pull on New Horizons. Resistance in a Wire Coursework Resistance in a Wire Coursework In this investigation we are trying to look for resistance in a piece of wire, and how the length of a wire can increase or decrease the resistance. The things that affect the resistance in a wire are: the length of the wire a certain amount of wire cross sectional area of the wire (thickness) temperature material What things can affect the resistance in a wire? The temperature can affect the resistance in a wire, because the more thermal energy a component has the more the atoms within it will vibrate and get in the path of the free electrons, so the higher the temperature, more resistance is being produced. Once you have figured out the thickness of the wire (length x width), you will be able to calculate the ohms law. Prediction My prediction for this experiment is, once the length of the wire increases, so will the resistance. What my results show me My results show me that once the readings on the ammeter and the voltage increase, so will the resistance, because of this we decided to increase the length of wire used by 10cm each time a reading was recorded. Method 1.Set up the series circuit. 2.Connect the crocodile clip to 30cm along the wire. 3.Switch on the power supply. 4.Record readings from the ammeter and voltmeter. 5.Switch off the power supply. 6.Repeat the stages of 2 6 three times at length 30cm intervals up to 1 metre. What I did and why I kept my experiment a fair test in the following ways: I did not change any parts of the circuit (wires, ammeter, voltmeter or battery pack) in between the measurements this would have prevented small discrepancies between circuit components from affecting the results. When taking the measurements from the voltmeter and ammeter, I waited for the reading to settle completely. If it didn t settle, then I would have made an estimate of the middle value being shown. Waiting for the reading to settle prevented accidentally taking a reading while the value is fluctuating randomly when the power is first turned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Symbols, Symbolism, and Allegory in Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown Symbolism is a literary technique that is used to clarify the author s intent. Sometimes it is used to great effect, while other times it only seems to muddle the meaning of a passage. In Young Goodman Brown, Nathaniel Hawthorne uses objects and people as symbols to allegorically reveal his message to the reader. Nathaniel Hawthorne uses different people as symbols throughout Young Goodman Brown. The largest symbolic roles in the story are goodman Brown and his wife Faith. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hawthorne does an excellent job of turning the main characters into symbols that are prominent throughout the story. Nathaniel Hawthorne also uses different objects in the story as symbols. One of these is the staff of the devil : But the only thing about him, that could be fixed upon as remarkable, was his staff, which bore the likeness of a great black snake . . . (185). This symbol shows the reader the evil that is involved with the devil character because the serpent is an archetype of the devil, or some sort of evil, which is prominent in many different cultures. Another object Hawthorne uses as a recurring symbol is the pink ribbon. The pink ribbon symbolizes the purity and innocence involved with Faith. And Faith . . . thrust her own pretty had into the street, letting the wind play with the pink ribbons in her cap, is a great example of how Hawthorne correlates Faith with the pink ribbons of innocence (184). The pink ribbons are mentioned later on in the story as they fall from the sky: But something fluttered lightly down through the air, and caught on the branch of a tree. The young man seized it, and beheld a pink ribbon. (189). • 31. Second Great Awakening Movement A second great awakening emerged toward the end of the eighteenth century in New England. Unlike the first great awakening, this movement of the Holy Spirit used intellectual institutions of higher learning as the spark that ignited this awakening that eventually spread across this new nation. Yale University with its president, Timothy Dwight, the grandson of Jonathan Edwards is seen as one ignition points of this movement. The early fruit of this movement included the founding of many organizations dedicated to making the gospel known across this new land and across the globe. Mission organizations such as the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions are seen as a direct fruit of this movement. Another important outcome of this movement is seen in the breaking down of ethnic origins and religious affiliations. In other words, as immigrants flooded into America and moved west into the new frontier, religious affiliations they brought with them faded away. An example of how this worked is seen in the Methodist camp meetings and the circuit riding Methodist preachers who brought the gospel into these new areas and to the new citizens living in these areas. • 32. Interesting Features of Ancient Civilizations Question: Try to imagine what it was like to live during that time and in that place. What was it that caused the transition from Neolithic life to civilization? What were some of the major features of those civilizations that you found interesting? One of the most interesting features of ancient civilizations was the extent to which topography influenced cultural worldviews and practices. For example, in the case of the Sumerians, they possessed a highly evolved and complex culture, as manifested in the philosophical depth of their Epic of Gilgamesh. However, the openness of the land in which they lived to invaders made them vulnerable as did the propensity of the land to catastrophic flooding. This may be one of the reasons why they did not create as politically and architecturally complex a society as Egypt or Greece. It also likely affected the relatively dark worldview expressed in Gilgamesh. However, despite the susceptibility to invasions, subsequent civilizations in the area, like the Babylonians, created ways of tracking the stars and other valuable methods of observing and interpreting the world in a scientific fashion that were to become the building blocks of modern civilizationin other areas. The Importance Of Giftedness And Talent The researcher observes that the DMGT differentiates between giftedness and talent in which giftedness includes the possession and use of untrained outstanding natural abilities (called gifts), in at least one ability domain, to a degree that places an individual at least among the top 10% of age peers. Besides, It s clear in the figure that the natural abilities of the gifted have three domains; intellectual domain which includes (general intelligence, numerical, verbal...), mental domain which includes (creativity, fluency, leadership...) and physical domain which includes (perceptual, vision, endurance, speed...)
