Bisphenol-A
Bisphenol A (or BPA) is an organic compound used in the industrial production of plastics. It was first
synthesised around 100 years ago, and has been used to produce polycarbonate plastics and epoxy
resins since the 1960s (US FDA, 2012). Polycarbonate plastics are lightweight and rigid, therefore
used in products such as CDs, DVDs, sports and medical equipment, food and drink containers and
some water supply pipes. Epoxy resins are used as protective coatings in food cans, paints and
adhesives (Aschberger, 2010). According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, there are over
three million tonnes of BPA produced worldwide each year. Humans are exposed to BPA as it has the
ability to hydrolyse (react with water) when catalysed by hydroxide, ... Show more content on

For example, Lang et al (2008) claims that higher levels of BPA in the urine were associated with
cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. However, higher levels of BPA in the urine could also
suggest a high consumption of packaged food. The packaged food is higher in sugar, salt and fat
content, therefore would lead to a higher risk of type 2 diabetes. The US Environmental Protection
Agency concludes that these studies are insufficient for use in risk assessment because of a variety of
flaws in some of the study designs . They further question the findings stating that there is an inability
of other researchers to reproduce the effects in standardised

Rubik s Cube Personal Statement
Rubik s cube a maze of endless possibilities. Perhaps it is the challenge that goaded my intellect or the
quest of reaching the finish line that kept me engrossed for hours, nevertheless the cube instilled in me
a passion for solving complex problems early on in life. Little did I know, this passion would become
a full blown love affair with medicine due to turn of events.
I first realized the humane side of my personality during my high school years when a bomb blast
transpired near my home, filling up the hospitals with trauma patients. The urgency of helping hands
compelled me to become a volunteer during this difficult time and I decided to put my talents to use. I
started calling and personally contacting many friends to start an organized response to this tragedy,
managing to arrange a substantial blood donation for the victims. The contentment I felt upon helping
the people in need pushed me to take the pivotal decision of choosing medicine as a career. Luck was
a lady for me, as I managed to persevere in the face of stiff competition and eventually got into a top
medical school in my state. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I remember diagnosing a case of cervical rib syndrome, a rare condition, with only detailed history
and physical examination, a feat I am still proud of. Eventually, I soon concluded that both my clinical
capabilities and interests in social welfare activities were perfectly suited for the field of internal
medicine as it is a science of logic and an art of probability. An internist starts from a complaint and
ends upon a diagnosis and this tiresome journey involves many events, i.e. taking histories, crossing
differentials, checking lab findings. However, to me it mimics my enthusiastic practice of shuffling the

Culture Values
Texts reflect the culture and values of their eras by presenting and addressing perspectives of the
composers on the issues of the context. The poem The End and the Beginning by Wislawa
Szymborska and the Austrian film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance by Michael Haneke
accomplish this by exemplifying issues in 1990s society such as the increasing influence of media and
the breakdown of interpersonal communication.
The End and the Beginning is a Polish poem by Wislawa Szymborska which captures a wars
aftermath on its innocent citizens and how, in time, both the war and its origins are forgotten. It thus
shows how the values of a country or society may change over time as the views and opinions of its
citizens change.
The overall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This fragmentation is also visually portrayed through the jigsaw like paper game. Part way through the
film, a student fails to solve the puzzle leading to an outburst of anger, foreshadowing his final act of
violence.
Haneke has also used subtle film techniques to add to the sense of a breakdown of communication.
The camera is always positioned in such a way that makes the audience feel detached from the
characters. Rather than connecting emotionally with the characters, the audience is made to analyse
them, thus reflecting the emotionless state which our society has assumed with changing values. The
characters themselves are not named, allowing them to become representative of types within society.
The use of media is also present throughout the film with Haneke showing the increasingly invasive
presence of media within society as values change and mankind becomes more technological and
industrialised. By repeating the same articles at the end with the embedding of the films event as
another story, Haneke comments on how the media subsumes any disturbance into the even surface of
society and integrates it into the unending stream of trivialised information.
The film also serves a didactic purpose, as Haneke highlights and criticises the blatant use of violence
in Hollywood action films, saying that his films are intended as polemical statements against the

Social Work Essay
This essay will discuss social divisions; social exclusion and social inclusion, of which there are many
definitions and interpretations. Social divisions and Social exclusion has been around for many years.
Social exclusion was first noticed in France in 1970s in relation to people who fell outside the range of
the social insurance system, such as disabled people, lone parents and the young unemployed
(Townsend and Kennedy, 2004). Before 1997 Social exclusion was referred to as poverty , which
means where people lack many of the opportunities that are available to the average person (Palmer;
2010). However for the purpose of this assignment, it will focus on homelessness as a social division,
the relationship between exclusion and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One interpretation of social exclusion comes from the European Commission s recent Joint Report
,which states
social exclusion is a process where individuals are made to feel pushed out and prevented from
participating in society, due to poverty or lack of education. This may result in discrimination,
resulting in exclusion from jobs, an income, limited education, lack of social and community
opportunities and possibly feeling powerless (Europa, 2003).
A structural view from Field (1989) and Dahrendorf (1987) who believe it is the structures in society
that exclude people. Another, interpretation from the Social Exclusion Unit London (SEU) states
social exclusion is a shorthand label for what can happen when individuals or areas suffer from a
combination of linked problems such as unemployment, poor skills, low incomes, poor housing, high
crime environments, bad health and family breakdown (SEU 1997). Pierson (2010) suggests that
poverty, low income, lack of access to the job market, low or non existent social support, the effect of
the area and the exclusion from services are all ways to socially exclude people from society.
Thompson (2010) believes that social location affects people s life chances, due to where people are
born and where they live, arguing that people have no choice/control over what position they are
within society and depending on their location within the structure

Theme Of Isolation In Romeo And Juliet
Golding presents villians as isolated through the character of Roger. Our first impression we receive
from Roger is that he seems very devious and mysterious. This is portrayed when Golding tells the
reader Roger was a slight furtive boy whom no one knew who kept to himself with an inner intensity
of avoidance and secrecy . who kept to himself portrays that he didn t like socialising and that he liked
being by himself .The word secrecy suggests that the secret could be he is more evil that

everything in a very methodical way which indicates he is not impulsive. This foreshadows that at the
moment he doesn t dare to throw them but he will which foreshadows the death of Piggy .
Moreover, the Gestapo (secret state police ) is very alike to Roger becasue they are very secretive and
the gestapo become commander of the forcd which foreshadows when Roger takes commands Roger

As the bus meandered along the country roads, questionsfloated through my mind: How far were we
from the Snake River? Where were ourguides? In our bus full of tourists, my mom, sister and I felt
foolish being theonly ones who rented wet suits for our Colorado rafting adventure. As the
busdescended a gravel hill, I saw a turbulent, muddy river eager to swallow me.Along the bank were
college students awaiting our arrival with dozens of yellowrafts.
Our guide, Kim, was muscular and had long, dirty blond hair thathung in clumps. We introduced

As the nose of the raft dove into the first wave, it broke over the heads of the four people in front. (I
was glad I was in back!) I yelled to continue paddling, and I don t know if I made any difference as we
rode wave after wave, but it kept my mind and body occupied. The raft rocked and pitched in all
directions at once; at times it seemed perpendicular to the river. How could they be enjoying this?
All of a sudden, the river was calm. I had survived. I wanted to scream, I did it! I realized everyone
was shivering except my friends and I and I silently thanked my coach for making us rent the wetsuits.
Through the trees, I saw the truck waiting for us. We Followed our coaches instructions and grounded

you are knowledgeable in that make you, you. For example, some of my discourses include being a
Lacrosse player, being an American man, and being an Engineering student. While some are easily
obtainable, some discourses are simply impossible to obtain, but they are forever changing as you

Community Property In The United States
In Wisconsin if you are married then is called community property which means that people who are
married will inherit everything unless they have children will inherit half of the community property
only if they would have acquired any property before they were married. If you are not married then it
will go to your legal children where they are adopted, foster children, or grandchildren. The state will
rarely get your property unless there is absolutely no one that can claim your property. Most people do

brother Jack told him that his mother never had a will and since he was living in the house with her
that he had every right to keep the money and do what he wanted with his things. John the youngest of
the brothers took his brother to court because he never asked if he could sell her things and take all of
her money. It turned out that she did have a living will along with the finance and property laid out on
how all of her assets would be split up and who got what. After about three months one of their
mothers friends you had kept the will and gave it to both Jack and John. Needless to say that John won
his case and was ordered to pay back half of everything that he took and for the items that he sold.

Red Jacket and Olaudah Equiano have different opinions on the people of the United States of
America because they had different roles and were in different situations, they were in different
locations, and they experienced different types of treatment and behavior. Olaudah Equiano was a
captured African from Benin; his home in Western South Africa. He worked as a slave in Barbados
and Virginia but surprisingly bought his freedom and headed to England to support the British anti
slavery movement. He learned how to read and write in English while settled in Great Britain. This led
to him writing about his experience of being a slave and all the horrific sights he saw. He wrote a
piece about him being captured and sent to the ship. He talked about his journey, shows the
knowledge, and education he had back then. He wrote about the Americans and what he thought about
them. He also mentions the treatment the Africans were getting. On the other hand, Red Jacket had the
role of a Native American Chief, he was a prominent leader of the Native American tribe called the
Senecas. He, unlike Equiano, wrote about his experience while in the United States of America. His
speech was his weapon to defend the religion he believes in. He uses many useful points and ... Show

Theme Of Psychoanism In Wuthering Heights
Wuthering Heights, published by Emily Brontë in 1847, tells a story of the history of Wuthering
Heights and the tragic love story that precedes it. The two central settings of the work, Thrushcross
Grange, and Wuthering Heights represent Freud s structural model of the human psyche: the id and the
superego. Because Freud s structural model presents the notion that internal conflict is inevitable, the
two settings illustrate the complexities of the human subconscious and the characters difficulty in
navigating them.
In Brontë s Wuthering Heights, the namesake setting of the book represents the Freudian id, by reason
of its primitive aspect in the work. In psychoanalytic theory, the id is responsible for the primal
instincts in humans, and almost always seeks immediate fulfillment. Early on in the novel, the primal
nature of Wuthering Heights exposes itself: the Gothic architecture of the house gives off a sense of
foreboding, the inside of the home lacks conventional furnishings, meat hangs from the kitchen
ceiling, and Lockwood, the narrator, notices a pile of dead rabbits in the living room. Lockwood calls
the atmosphere surrounding the house a tumult to which its station is exposed in stormy weather (5).
The description of the home reveals an underlying barbarity to it, similar to the id. The darkness in the
Heights mirrors location of the id in the human subconscious; the id is located deep in the recesses of
the human mind, so many humans who engage the id have no way to resist it. The tone of the work
shrouds the Heights in an antagonistic darkness, and the lack of conventionality coupled with the
turbulent weather serves as a physical manifestation of the id.
In contrast, Thrushcross Grange represents the superego due to the air of controlled refinement
surrounding the home. Freud s model defines the superego as the part of the mind that acts as a critical
self conscious, reflecting social standards learned through parents and teachers. The refined nature of
the house and its adherence to societal standards shows in its physical appearance. As he described the
appearance of Thrushcross Grange in the novel Heathcliff should have thought [himself] in heaven ,
(48). Unlike the Heights, the

Biological Determinism Vs Differential Socialization
There are two schools of thought involved in the historical debate about gender and its manifestation
in our society: biological determinism and differential socialization (Kimmel, 2013, p.2). Despite the
fact that both schools make reference to gender inequality, it is important to remark that while for
determinists this one is directly linked to people s innate biological traits, for sociologists, inequality is
learned through the process of socialization. On one hand, determinism sets its foundations in biology
and a binary expression of sex (male and female), and states that men and women have inherited
different capacities and adaptations. Determinists believe that since the moment people are born, they
are predisposed by their genes, hormonal, and physically capacities to act in the world as either a men
or a woman. Therefore, they argue that the inequality, or superiority of one sex over the other (in this
case masculinity superiority), is a key factor (a necessity) for our society to function properly
(Kimmel, 2013). For example, women s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adding the social factor as one of the major influences in one s identity and, therefore, it is a form of
gender expression. Thus, individuals are more than the expression of their biological sex, they are part
of groups and these groups exert a great influence in their everyday decisions (Kimmel, 2013). In this
case, gender inequality is learned during the process of socialization. For instance, we tend to learn
how to act (gender roles) from the different norms in society. Supporting this idea, I noticed how at
school, boys and girls tend to be organized in two separate groups to play sports. This example is what
Kimmel (2013) explained an example of how people learn that men and women are different, and
construct in their minds the idea of gender

Catcher In The Rye Narrative Analysis
In Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye, Salinger creates a unique narration through the way Holden
speaks. In The Catcher in the Rye, Salinger reveals the inner Holden Caufield through the style of
Salinger s writing. Salinger writes the book as if Holden Caulfield speaks directly through the reader,
like a kid telling a story to his friends. Like with most conversations, there is more to infer from not
only the speaker says, but also how the speaker says it. In the book, readers can infer that Holden is
much more than a cynical kid. In reality, he is too affectionate and very emotional (76), much like his
little sister Phoebe. As Holden Caufield relives his story through his storytelling, he frequently
criticizes the people and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the end, Holden even confesses that he misses everybody, and Salinger s old sport titles confirms
that Holden speaks the truth. Another aspect of Salinger s writing that is significant to Holden s voice
is Holden s vocabulary. Holden even states it himself: he has a lousy vocabulary (11) and most of it
consists of profanities and swear words. In part, Salinger creates a teenage tone to Holden s voice
through the mass amount of profanities in the writing. Most mature adult characters in the book use
vulgar words little to none, and all the children in the book do not even know any swear words. Only
the characters close to Holden s age and maturity levels swear like Holden. In addition, Salinger also
creates a feeling of separation between Holden and the adults through the differences in the amount of
profanities the characters speak. More than once someone more mature tells Holden to [s]top swearing
(191) and to [w]atch [his] language (80). Despite all the complaints, Holden keeps on swearing
throughout the whole novel. In a way, Salinger creates a rebellious streak to Holden a way that he will
not stop swearing even when the adults tell him to stop. Yet, Holden can feel it himself when
something is not right when it comes to profanities. When childlike identities mix with profanities,
Holden feels uncomfortable. He hates how young and childlike Sunny is as a

Anthropology In Sports
My personal interest in sports is based on how my parents and other family members nurtured me as a
child and youth. My continuous interest in sports has influenced my choice of this topic to provide me
a field experience and a deeper understanding. I have always been interested and engaged in play and
sports. Volleyball is my favorite sport and was the first organised sport I played in junior secondary
school at age 12. I have been involved in several competitive sports at from the amateur to the
national/elite level. I have participated in team sports (e.g., volleyball and soccer), field events (e.g.,
high jump, long jump), and track events (e.g., 100m, 200m, 400m, 800). I chose to focus on volleyball
for this project because it is a sport with which I am most comfortable and familiar. 1.4 Justification of
Study The anthropology of sports is a cross cultural sub discipline that focuses on analyses of sports
related social problems (Blanchard 1995:23). Although physical anthropologists for decades have
done studies on body types, morphology, and functions, less work has been done in the area of
cultural, social and psychological settings with regards to the way individuals live and also perform
(Malina 1972). There are virtually unlimited opportunities for additional research to be done (Coakley

Beethoven s Sixth Symphony
Beethoven s Sixth Symphony He (Beethoven) was a pivotal figure in the transition from 18th century
musical classicism to 19th century romanticism, and his influence on subsequent generations of
composers was profound Kerman and Tyson. Beethoven s sixth symphony (also known as the pastoral
symphony) has qualities of both the classical and romantic periods and illustrates Beethoven s
revolutionary ideas as well as highlights his classical influences. The programmatic nature of the piece
is the dominant romantic feature although the use of brass and percussion as well as the dramatic

He creates this dance like feel in a variety of ways. Firstly, the 2/4 time signature makes the music feel
upbeat compared to the 4/4 time signature of the rest of the piece. Secondly, the sforzando accent on
the first beat of every bar drives the music onwards. Also the catchy, short and rhythmic melody is
lively and metronomic. Finally the fiddle like manner in which the violins play creates a sense of a
dance. There are unexpected changes and dramatic dynamic changes throughout the trio which are
both romantic qualities. The fact that this movement moves seamlessly into the next is also romantic.
The fourth movement is titled thunderstorm and is a romantic movement. It is in episodic form (a
format of the romantic period). It is extremely programmatic. The movement depicts a thunderstorm
through the use of the timpani that creates the rumble of the thunder and the punctuated sforzando
chords that create a harsh lightning (for example in bar 21). These programmatic features are romantic
traits and show Beethoven s ability to push the boundaries of the style he was contained to. The use of
percussion and brass in a dominant role is also a romantic feature. There are multiple dramatic
dynamic changes throughout the movement ranging from pianissimo to fortissimo, which is unusual
for the classical period. The movement also exercises dissonance and the melody is unresolved, a

Hearing Loss Association Of America
Background Hearing loss is one of the most common physical conditions in the United States. It has
been referred to as an invisible condition, as we can t see it occurring; all we see is the effects of it
(Hearing Loss Association of America). The severity of the loss can range in the classifications of
mild, moderate, severe, or profound. It can also occur in just one ear, or both. Hearing loss can occur
at any age. People can be born with deafness (which is known as congenital hearing loss), or lose their
hearing over a gradual period of time. Causes of why hearing loss occurs vary per person. The most
common cause of loss is noise and aging. Buildup in the air, injury, ear infection, rupture eardrum are
other causes as well. For children who suffer from hearing loss, most are born with it. Today, in the
United States, every two thirds of every one thousand children are deaf or hard of hearing (Hearing
Loss Association of America). This causes their everyday lives to be shaped much differently than
normal children. They may have cochlear implants to help them hear. In fact, In the United States,
more than 25,000 children have received cochlear implants (Lenihan 2010). The child may also have a

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte Essay examples
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte Emily Jane Bronte was born on July 30, 1818 in Thorton,
Yorkshire, England. She was the daughter of Patrick, an Anglican clergyman, and Maria Bronte.
Emily lived with her parents, sisters Charlotte and Anne, and brother Patrick Branwell. Two other
sisters, Elizabeth and Maria, died while Emily was very young. Mrs. Bronte also died while Emily
was young, in 1821. Mr. Bronte and an aunt, Elizabeth Branwell, raised the surviving children. They
were educated at home and spent much of their time reading and writing. Charlotte and Emily spent a

considered one of the greatest novels in the English language. Soon after the publication of the novel
Emily became ill, and her health failed rapidly. She complained of difficulty of breathing. Emily
Bronte died of tuberculosis in Haworth on December 19, 1848. Wuthering Heights is a powerful tale
of passion, hatred, and revenge. It deals with two families, the Earnshaws and Lintons, living in the
moorlands of England. Mr. and Mrs. Earnshaw have a son, Hindley, and a daughter, Catherine. One
day while in Liverpool Mr. Earnshaw picks up a homeless boy and brings him home with him, to
Wuthering Heights. The abandoned boy is named Heathcliff. Heathcliff becomes a close friend of
Catherine s but as he becomes Mr. Earnshaw s favorite Hindley becomes jealous and begins to abuse
him. Hindley eventually goes to college, leaving Catherine and Heathcliff at Wuthering Heights.
Heathcliff falls deeply in love with Catherine, and she develops feelings towards him as well.
However, one day while the two were visiting the nearby Thrushcross Grange Catherine was bitten by
a dog. Her ankle is injured so badly that she is forced to spend the next five weeks at the Grange with
the Lintons. She spends most of her time with the Linton s children, Edgar and Isabella, and becomes

California Is Notorious For Its Wildfires
California is notorious for its wildfires. In the last two decades San Diego County has faced some of
the most destructive firestorms in state history (Brainard, 2007). Ron Roberts, chairman of the San
Diego County Board of Supervisors, describes the county s disposition as, We have a very dangerous,
unpredictable situation. We have some of the highest temperatures, some of the driest landscape
conditions, and some of the most powerful winds all ingredients for a perfect firestorm (Pesce, 2007).
In 2003, San Diego County was overwhelmed by firestorms, including the Cedar Fire, and at that time
it was the worst in state history. However, in 2007 San Diego was once again devastated by firestorms,
but this time more mighty than the preceding (Ekard, Tuck, Jr., Steffen, 2003). San Diego has had its
fair share of practice at managing firestorm response actions. The 2003 firestorms proved that there
were numerous inefficiencies within the county s emergency response plan, while the 2007 firestorms
emergency response revealed the lessons learned from 2003 and improvements implemented were
effective. The threat of future firestorms in San Diego County are inevitable due to the continuing
drought, Santa Anna winds, climate changes, and human behavior (Pesce, 2007). Having a well
constructed Incident Command System (ICS) and the trained personnel to execute its model is the
most effective measure to mitigate the degree of life lost and property damage in a disaster incident. A

The Importance Of Writing And Creative Writing
In today s modern world, more and more schools are incorporating electronics in the curriculum, but
these changes are having immeasurable effects on students including the demise of their handwriting.
The art of handwriting has been around since its invention in 4000 BC, and according to Anne
Chemin, Mesopotamia was more than likely the birthplace of handwriting (Chemin). In recent years,
however, handwriting has become more of a chore than a learning utensil to students. But at what
cost? Handwriting is the most beneficial way for everyone to learn and develop their brains and
creative processes. Today we will delve into how handwriting increases brain activity. Second, we will
examine the educational advancements of handwriting. Finally, we will explore how handwriting
improves creative thoughts.
First, let s start with the brain. When people handwrite, the brain is utilized in numerous areas.
Handwriting is a difficult task that requires a great deal of brain activity. According to Edouard
Gentaz, a professor of developmental psychology at the University of Geneva, to handwrite, the brain
must process the feel of the pencil and paper and the correct movement of the writing utensil to create
complex shapes and letters (Chemin). For example, in an article for Science Direct, Gabriella Munoz
cites a 2012 investigation led by Karin James, a psychologist at Indiana State University, it was
concluded that three different parts of your brain are stimulated when writing. This

American Red Cross Clara Barton Character Traits
Clara Barton Angel of the Battlefield Everyone strives to be the one person who left the most
impressive mark on the world. The person who succeeded significantly is Clara Barton. She paved
way for an improved health organization all across America that would live on for over a century. Her
most notable achievement was founding the American Red Cross but she actually did much more.
Beginning her impressive impression on the world, Clara Barton began the first free public school in
New Jersey. This may seem almost menial work compared to what someone can accomplish in today s
world but the 18th century was a different time for people especially women. During this period in
time, men held most occupations while women stayed home. However, Clara was determined to

people were dying. In one experience at the battle of Antietam, a bullet pierced through her sleeve and
killed the soldier she was helping. The most notable achievement made by Clara Barton is the
founding of the American Red Cross. After the war, she took a deserved cure vacation to Europe.
While on her stay, she came in contact with some members of the National Red Cross Committee.
With her heart set on creating an American Red Cross, she returned to America. The government was
hesitant to begin the organization. They were afraid of getting entangled into foreign affairs. Finally, it
was finally approved in 1882 at the Geneva Convention. (Former and Garraty) Thanks to the Clara
Barton s work, there are nearly 64,000 disaster responses yearly made by the American Red Cross. (

Decision Making Model Essay
Decision Making Model
Abstract
Decision making models can be very effective in problem solving. Scheduling is a big problem at
Direct HomeHealth Care and a solution needed to be found. Scheduling software which can be very
expensive was the only conclusion that could be reached. With much thought and analysis a resolution
was reached with critical thought and a decision making model from the Small Business Development
Center.
Decision making models can be very helpful in analyzing a problem and setting up a step by step
process to evaluate and come to a favorable conclusion. Recently there has been a problem at my

A new solution needed to be reached to schedule patients more efficiently.
The next step would be to analyze the situation and identify key uncertainties. After thinking this
problem through there was a realization that a computer program was the way to go. Computer
programs can be very expensive, some around thirty thousand dollars. This would be a very large
expense and I am not sure Direct HomeHealth Care is ready to spend that kind of money. A new
computer program would also mean schedulers need to be trained and that could be very time
consuming. If the schedulers were not computer literate it could become very complicated. Despite the
drawbacks such as expense and training this was the only workable solution. This would eliminate the
heavy books and also allow for more precise and efficient patient scheduling.
Gathering data is the next step in the model and several software companies were consulted. All of the
companies had excellent products with very impressive features. The scheduling software not only
scheduled patients but it also kept track of payroll and billing. Payroll and billing are both very
important departments of Direct HomeHealth Care and the process to fulfill each task weekly is
monstrous. If the software could help to alleviate these two jobs it would be a great benefit. After
speaking with representatives from a number of companies an affordable solution was found

Ida B Wells Research Paper
Ida B. Wells is a name that should always be synonymous with African American modern history.
Being born during the Civil War in the South and living her life through Reconstruction, history would
play a huge role with her life. So when given the choice of being a background character or to take
center stage, Wells found her spot light and shone like the morning sun. The South would do its best to
stifle her voice both as child, though she would not know it, and as an adult. Yet Wells would show the
strength and determination of an African American woman and prove that she was as much a part of
the large scale Civil Rights Movement as her male counterparts.
Certain instances in history really help shape who Wells would become. For example, Wells was born

University (though the president would later expel her) and become a teacher in Memphis, Tennessee
(a more progressive area of the South, compared to Holly Springs, Mississippi) Wells would become a
major influence in the South after a day in 1883. One Saturday while riding the train into Woodstock,
a conductor removed her from the first class car she was riding in, that she had paid to ride in, to put
her in the smoking car. She refused to be treated as less than she was and got off the train. She would
in turn sue the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad Company and win, only to have it overturned. Wells
would take this and over the next few years she would speak out about the racial injustice across the
South. After the lynching of three men in 1892, she would travel the South and learn of lynching
stories in other parts of the South, documenting them as she went. Her writings would end up in
African American newspapers as well as her own, the Free Speech. Regardless of losing her teaching
job and threats against her life, Wells continued her

Cryptography Is The Science Of Writing And Solving Secret...
Abstract. This paper is on Cryptography. Cryptography is the art of writing and solving secret
messages. People have been using the encoding and decoding of messages with pen and paper since
ancient times. Cryptography has played an enormous role in human history as it was used in times of
war. With the demand of today s world of online security, digital Cryptography is in great demand to
help people protect valuable information. This paper will focus on the brief history of Cryptography.
Introduction
Cryptography is the science of writing and deciphering secret messages. One can encrypt a message or
plain text by using a specific parameter or key to create a coded message or cipher text. Depending on
the encryption method used, the encryption algorithm may be as long as the message or shorter than
the message. Encryption is used to secure channels of communication on the Internet, protect data in
ATM s, cell phones, and much more. Cryptanalysis is the procedures taken to decipher a cipher text.
The main focus of cryptanalysis is to interpret secrets during times of war, since, knowing what the
enemy is thinking and doing gives a great advantage. This article will focus on the brief history of
cryptography and the mathematics behind it.
1. Origins of Cryptography
The earliest known text containing components of cryptography originates in the Egyptian town
Menet Khufu on the tomb of nobleman Khnumhotep II nearly 4,000 years ago [4]. Figure 1 shows the

quantitative business forecasting and their use in Firstlogic Inc., to forecast the demand under
conditions of uncertainty. Time series and Delphi forecasting methods are considered for this research
to evaluate their ability to make effective decisions regarding the future.
Business Forecasting
Business forecasting is the process of studying historical performance for the purpose of using the
knowledge gained to project future business conditions so that decisions can be made today that will
aid in the achievement of established goals. Forecasting plays a crucial role in today s uncertain global
marketplace. Forecasting is traditionally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This group then feeds back the responses to other members of the group, while never giving away the
identity of the response. The experts are then asked to respond again, after reviewing the responses of
other respondents. This process may continue until a consensus is reached among the group. The
group may be united to form a final consensus (Namvar, 2000, p.8). Time Series Forecasting Method
Time series techniques are the most popular quantitative method. These techniques use statistical
methods for projecting from historical data. Quantitative techniques are preferred when appropriate
data are available. The main assumption is that the historical pattern will continue into the future. The
two main types of time series forecasting are average smoothing and exponential smoothing. The
moving average is simply a series of arithmetic averages. Predicting sales for next year is simple. The
actual sales for a certain number of years is added, and then divided by the number of years used to
get the moving average. A weighted moving average is obtained by assigning a specific weight to
previous years. The sum of all weights must equal one. Recent years are given a higher weight
(Namvar, 2000, p.13).
Exponential smoothing is simply a subtype of the weighted moving average. A new forecast is a
weighted sum of actual variables (usually sales) in the current year and the weighted forecast of

Cultural Components That Make Up The Country India
India is a country often described as being the most unforgettable place you can visit. It attracts those
who seek to experience spiritual awakening, those who crave inspiration and wish to engulf
themselves in rich culture, and sometimes merely those who have a passionate desire to learn. Having
lived in the USA as a Mexican American for more than 10 years already, I know much about living a
life that balances out different beliefs and traditions, as well as profoundly appreciating that which is
multicultural. I hope to not just speak about the specifics of the country in my paper, but rather to also

Unified under the famous Gupta Dynasty (4th 5th century), northern India was ushered into what was
known as the Golden Age, where Hindu culture and political administration reached new heights. It
was also during this time that Isla began spreading across the subcontinent over a period of 700 years
By 600 BC, approximately sixteen dynasties ruled the north Indian plains spanning the modern day
Afghanistan to Bangladesh. Some of the most powerful dynasties were the ones ruling the kingdoms
of Magadha, Kosla, Kuru and Gandhara. Economically speaking, the most notable dynasty was
however, the Mauryas, which started in about 1526 and last for 3 centuries. The Mauryas are known to
have established a common currency, and as a result trade began to flourish.
During the 16th century, European explorers began establishing footholds in India. And by the 19th
century, Great Britain had become the dominant political power. The British expanded their influence
from these footholds until, by the 1850s, they controlled most of present day India, Pakistan, and
Bangladesh. Great Britain began administering most of India directly while controlling the rest
through treaties with local rulers. Years of nonviolent resistance to British rule, notably known to have
been led by Mohandas Gandhi, eventually resulted in Indian independence which was granted in
1947.

  • 2. Bisphenol-A Bisphenol A (or BPA) is an organic compound used in the industrial production of plastics. It was first synthesised around 100 years ago, and has been used to produce polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins since the 1960s (US FDA, 2012). Polycarbonate plastics are lightweight and rigid, therefore used in products such as CDs, DVDs, sports and medical equipment, food and drink containers and some water supply pipes. Epoxy resins are used as protective coatings in food cans, paints and adhesives (Aschberger, 2010). According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, there are over three million tonnes of BPA produced worldwide each year. Humans are exposed to BPA as it has the ability to hydrolyse (react with water) when catalysed by hydroxide, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Lang et al (2008) claims that higher levels of BPA in the urine were associated with cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. However, higher levels of BPA in the urine could also suggest a high consumption of packaged food. The packaged food is higher in sugar, salt and fat content, therefore would lead to a higher risk of type 2 diabetes. The US Environmental Protection Agency concludes that these studies are insufficient for use in risk assessment because of a variety of flaws in some of the study designs . They further question the findings stating that there is an inability of other researchers to reproduce the effects in standardised ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Rubik s Cube Personal Statement Rubik s cube a maze of endless possibilities. Perhaps it is the challenge that goaded my intellect or the quest of reaching the finish line that kept me engrossed for hours, nevertheless the cube instilled in me a passion for solving complex problems early on in life. Little did I know, this passion would become a full blown love affair with medicine due to turn of events. I first realized the humane side of my personality during my high school years when a bomb blast transpired near my home, filling up the hospitals with trauma patients. The urgency of helping hands compelled me to become a volunteer during this difficult time and I decided to put my talents to use. I started calling and personally contacting many friends to start an organized response to this tragedy, managing to arrange a substantial blood donation for the victims. The contentment I felt upon helping the people in need pushed me to take the pivotal decision of choosing medicine as a career. Luck was a lady for me, as I managed to persevere in the face of stiff competition and eventually got into a top medical school in my state. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I remember diagnosing a case of cervical rib syndrome, a rare condition, with only detailed history and physical examination, a feat I am still proud of. Eventually, I soon concluded that both my clinical capabilities and interests in social welfare activities were perfectly suited for the field of internal medicine as it is a science of logic and an art of probability. An internist starts from a complaint and ends upon a diagnosis and this tiresome journey involves many events, i.e. taking histories, crossing differentials, checking lab findings. However, to me it mimics my enthusiastic practice of shuffling the pieces of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Culture Values Texts reflect the culture and values of their eras by presenting and addressing perspectives of the composers on the issues of the context. The poem The End and the Beginning by Wislawa Szymborska and the Austrian film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance by Michael Haneke accomplish this by exemplifying issues in 1990s society such as the increasing influence of media and the breakdown of interpersonal communication. The End and the Beginning is a Polish poem by Wislawa Szymborska which captures a wars aftermath on its innocent citizens and how, in time, both the war and its origins are forgotten. It thus shows how the values of a country or society may change over time as the views and opinions of its citizens change. The overall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This fragmentation is also visually portrayed through the jigsaw like paper game. Part way through the film, a student fails to solve the puzzle leading to an outburst of anger, foreshadowing his final act of violence. Haneke has also used subtle film techniques to add to the sense of a breakdown of communication. The camera is always positioned in such a way that makes the audience feel detached from the characters. Rather than connecting emotionally with the characters, the audience is made to analyse them, thus reflecting the emotionless state which our society has assumed with changing values. The characters themselves are not named, allowing them to become representative of types within society. The use of media is also present throughout the film with Haneke showing the increasingly invasive presence of media within society as values change and mankind becomes more technological and industrialised. By repeating the same articles at the end with the embedding of the films event as another story, Haneke comments on how the media subsumes any disturbance into the even surface of society and integrates it into the unending stream of trivialised information. The film also serves a didactic purpose, as Haneke highlights and criticises the blatant use of violence in Hollywood action films, saying that his films are intended as polemical statements against the American ... • 5. Social Work Essay This essay will discuss social divisions; social exclusion and social inclusion, of which there are many definitions and interpretations. Social divisions and Social exclusion has been around for many years. Social exclusion was first noticed in France in 1970s in relation to people who fell outside the range of the social insurance system, such as disabled people, lone parents and the young unemployed (Townsend and Kennedy, 2004). Before 1997 Social exclusion was referred to as poverty , which means where people lack many of the opportunities that are available to the average person (Palmer; 2010). However for the purpose of this assignment, it will focus on homelessness as a social division, the relationship between exclusion and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One interpretation of social exclusion comes from the European Commission s recent Joint Report ,which states social exclusion is a process where individuals are made to feel pushed out and prevented from participating in society, due to poverty or lack of education. This may result in discrimination, resulting in exclusion from jobs, an income, limited education, lack of social and community opportunities and possibly feeling powerless (Europa, 2003). A structural view from Field (1989) and Dahrendorf (1987) who believe it is the structures in society that exclude people. Another, interpretation from the Social Exclusion Unit London (SEU) states social exclusion is a shorthand label for what can happen when individuals or areas suffer from a combination of linked problems such as unemployment, poor skills, low incomes, poor housing, high crime environments, bad health and family breakdown (SEU 1997). Pierson (2010) suggests that poverty, low income, lack of access to the job market, low or non existent social support, the effect of the area and the exclusion from services are all ways to socially exclude people from society. Thompson (2010) believes that social location affects people s life chances, due to where people are born and where they live, arguing that people have no choice/control over what position they are within society and depending on their location within the structure ... As the busdescended a gravel hill, I saw a turbulent, muddy river eager to swallow me.Along the bank were college students awaiting our arrival with dozens of yellowrafts. Our guide, Kim, was muscular and had long, dirty blond hair thathung in clumps. I paddled faster, intent on obeying every one of Kim s commands. As the nose of the raft dove into the first wave, it broke over the heads of the four people in front. (I was glad I was in back!) I yelled to continue paddling, and I don t know if I made any difference as we rode wave after wave, but it kept my mind and body occupied. The raft rocked and pitched in all directions at once; at times it seemed perpendicular to the river. How could they be enjoying this? All of a sudden, the river was calm. I had survived. I wanted to scream, I did it! I realized everyone was shivering except my friends and I and I silently thanked my coach for making us rent the wetsuits. Discourses are basically things that you are knowledgeable in that make you, you. Raif English Comparison Essay Red Jacket and Olaudah Equiano have different opinions on the people of the United States of America because they had different roles and were in different situations, they were in different locations, and they experienced different types of treatment and behavior. Olaudah Equiano was a captured African from Benin; his home in Western South Africa. He worked as a slave in Barbados and Virginia but surprisingly bought his freedom and headed to England to support the British anti slavery movement. He learned how to read and write in English while settled in Great Britain. This led to him writing about his experience of being a slave and all the horrific sights he saw. He wrote a piece about him being captured and sent to the ship. He talked about his journey, shows the knowledge, and education he had back then. He wrote about the Americans and what he thought about them. He also mentions the treatment the Africans were getting. On the other hand, Red Jacket had the role of a Native American Chief, he was a prominent leader of the Native American tribe called the Senecas. • 13. Theme Of Psychoanism In Wuthering Heights Wuthering Heights, published by Emily Brontë in 1847, tells a story of the history of Wuthering Heights and the tragic love story that precedes it. The two central settings of the work, Thrushcross Grange, and Wuthering Heights represent Freud s structural model of the human psyche: the id and the superego. Because Freud s structural model presents the notion that internal conflict is inevitable, the two settings illustrate the complexities of the human subconscious and the characters difficulty in navigating them. In Brontë s Wuthering Heights, the namesake setting of the book represents the Freudian id, by reason of its primitive aspect in the work. In psychoanalytic theory, the id is responsible for the primal instincts in humans, and almost always seeks immediate fulfillment. Early on in the novel, the primal nature of Wuthering Heights exposes itself: the Gothic architecture of the house gives off a sense of foreboding, the inside of the home lacks conventional furnishings, meat hangs from the kitchen ceiling, and Lockwood, the narrator, notices a pile of dead rabbits in the living room. Lockwood calls the atmosphere surrounding the house a tumult to which its station is exposed in stormy weather (5). The description of the home reveals an underlying barbarity to it, similar to the id. The darkness in the Heights mirrors location of the id in the human subconscious; the id is located deep in the recesses of the human mind, so many humans who engage the id have no way to resist it. The tone of the work shrouds the Heights in an antagonistic darkness, and the lack of conventionality coupled with the turbulent weather serves as a physical manifestation of the id. In contrast, Thrushcross Grange represents the superego due to the air of controlled refinement surrounding the home. Freud s model defines the superego as the part of the mind that acts as a critical self conscious, reflecting social standards learned through parents and teachers. The refined nature of the house and its adherence to societal standards shows in its physical appearance. As he described the appearance of Thrushcross Grange in the novel Heathcliff should have thought [himself] in heaven , (48). Unlike the Heights, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Biological Determinism Vs Differential Socialization There are two schools of thought involved in the historical debate about gender and its manifestation in our society: biological determinism and differential socialization (Kimmel, 2013, p.2). Despite the fact that both schools make reference to gender inequality, it is important to remark that while for determinists this one is directly linked to people s innate biological traits, for sociologists, inequality is learned through the process of socialization. On one hand, determinism sets its foundations in biology and a binary expression of sex (male and female), and states that men and women have inherited different capacities and adaptations. Determinists believe that since the moment people are born, they are predisposed by their genes, hormonal, and physically capacities to act in the world as either a men or a woman. Therefore, they argue that the inequality, or superiority of one sex over the other (in this case masculinity superiority), is a key factor (a necessity) for our society to function properly (Kimmel, 2013). Thus, individuals are more than the expression of their biological sex, they are part of groups and these groups exert a great influence in their everyday decisions (Kimmel, 2013). In this case, gender inequality is learned during the process of socialization. For instance, we tend to learn how to act (gender roles) from the different norms in society. Supporting this idea, I noticed how at school, boys and girls tend to be organized in two separate groups to play sports. Like with most conversations, there is more to infer from not only the speaker says, but also how the speaker says it. In the book, readers can infer that Holden is much more than a cynical kid. Another aspect of Salinger s writing that is significant to Holden s voice is Holden s vocabulary. In part, Salinger creates a teenage tone to Holden s voice through the mass amount of profanities in the writing. Most mature adult characters in the book use vulgar words little to none, and all the children in the book do not even know any swear words. Only the characters close to Holden s age and maturity levels swear like Holden. One can encrypt a message or plain text by using a specific parameter or key to create a coded message or cipher text. Depending on the encryption method used, the encryption algorithm may be as long as the message or shorter than the message. Encryption is used to secure channels of communication on the Internet, protect data in ATM s, cell phones, and much more. Cryptanalysis is the procedures taken to decipher a cipher text. The main focus of cryptanalysis is to interpret secrets during times of war, since, knowing what the enemy is thinking and doing gives a great advantage. This article will focus on the brief history of cryptography and the mathematics behind it. 1. Origins of Cryptography The earliest known text containing components of cryptography originates in the Egyptian town Menet Khufu on the tomb of nobleman Khnumhotep II nearly 4,000 years ago [4]. Business Forecast Abstract This Paper examines and compares various forecasting techniques used for qualitative and quantitative business forecasting and their use in Firstlogic Inc., to forecast the demand under conditions of uncertainty. Time series and Delphi forecasting methods are considered for this research to evaluate their ability to make effective decisions regarding the future. Business Forecasting Business forecasting is the process of studying historical performance for the purpose of using the knowledge gained to project future business conditions so that decisions can be made today that will aid in the achievement of established goals. Forecasting plays a crucial role in today s uncertain global marketplace. Forecasting is traditionally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This group then feeds back the responses to other members of the group, while never giving away the identity of the response. The experts are then asked to respond again, after reviewing the responses of other respondents. This process may continue until a consensus is reached among the group. The group may be united to form a final consensus (Namvar, 2000, p.8). Time Series Forecasting Method Time series techniques are the most popular quantitative method. These techniques use statistical methods for projecting from historical data. Quantitative techniques are preferred when appropriate data are available. The main assumption is that the historical pattern will continue into the future. The two main types of time series forecasting are average smoothing and exponential smoothing. The moving average is simply a series of arithmetic averages. Predicting sales for next year is simple. The actual sales for a certain number of years is added, and then divided by the number of years used to get the moving average. A weighted moving average is obtained by assigning a specific weight to previous years. The sum of all weights must equal one. Recent years are given a higher weight (Namvar, 2000, p.13). Exponential smoothing is simply a subtype of the weighted moving average. A new forecast is a weighted sum of actual variables (usually sales) in the current year and the weighted forecast of ... It attracts those who seek to experience spiritual awakening, those who crave inspiration and wish to engulf themselves in rich culture, and sometimes merely those who have a passionate desire to learn. Having lived in the USA as a Mexican American for more than 10 years already, I know much about living a life that balances out different beliefs and traditions, as well as profoundly appreciating that which is multicultural. I hope to not just speak about the specifics of the country in my paper, but rather to also facilitate in helping understand the people within it. I will attempt to describe certain cultural components that make up the country ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unified under the famous Gupta Dynasty (4th 5th century), northern India was ushered into what was known as the Golden Age, where Hindu culture and political administration reached new heights. It was also during this time that Isla began spreading across the subcontinent over a period of 700 years By 600 BC, approximately sixteen dynasties ruled the north Indian plains spanning the modern day Afghanistan to Bangladesh. Some of the most powerful dynasties were the ones ruling the kingdoms of Magadha, Kosla, Kuru and Gandhara. Economically speaking, the most notable dynasty was however, the Mauryas, which started in about 1526 and last for 3 centuries. The Mauryas are known to have established a common currency, and as a result trade began to flourish. During the 16th century, European explorers began establishing footholds in India. And by the 19th century, Great Britain had become the dominant political power. The British expanded their influence from these footholds until, by the 1850s, they controlled most of present day India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Great Britain began administering most of India directly while controlling the rest through treaties with local rulers. Years of nonviolent resistance to British rule, notably known to have been led by Mohandas Gandhi, eventually resulted in Indian independence which was granted in 1947.
