Summary Of Rules Of The Game By Amy Tan
Imagine being one of the best. Standing on a podium holding a trophy, yet coming home to
parents who are disappointed because you stood 3rd place on that podium. This is how Waverley
feels in the short story Rules of the Game by Amy Tan. Waverly lives with her mother, father, and
two older brothers in an apartment in Chinatown, San Francisco. Waverly loves to run around in the
bustling streets of her neighborhood smelling red beans and pastries being cooked nearby. One
Christmas, the Jong familywent to their nearby church for a Christmas party, and Waverly s brother
got a chessset. This chess set sprouted a new hobby for Waverly, and soon after she played chess
every day. Waverly became a chess star, with a mother who wanted nothing less than her daughter to
be number one. Extreme tension built up from Mrs. Jong pressure, eventually leading the mother
and daughter into a fight that could ruin their relationship. The way Mrs. Jong reacted to Waverly s
talent is especially significant in Waverly s development. Sometimes when parents support their
children too much it can stressthem out, and parents can often forget that children are children and
you must let them relax.
Throughout Rules of the game , Mrs. Jong supports Waverly so much that Waverly feels as if she
can t mess up, for it would disappoint her mother. This leads to Waverly feeling a lot of pressure
and stress. Near the end of the story, before the fight, Waverly mentions a time she was trying to

Dorothea Lange And The Migrant Woman
During the first half of the 20th century, Photographs, songs, and cartoons tried to interpret the
problems of the time through different kinds of imagery and tone with varying amounts of success,
from praise and awe to disgust and rejection.
In the early 20th century, Americans were suffering from the Great Depressionand its high
unemployment rates, droughts and terrible living conditions, so when they first saw the series of
photographs by Dorothea Lange, including the Migrant Mother, they were in awe of how it
captured their situation, as well as their beliefs, perfectly. Not only did they represent the people as
dignified human beings whose plight would elicit sympathy, not ridicule, Lange s photos captured
the idea that Poverty was a distressing matter..., not an embarrassing one, simply by photographing
people on the streets they were living on, filming them in their element. People were in pain and
just by taking photos of this problem, with some modifications and positioning, Lange s art became
a tireless and universal symbol of suffering in the face of adversity with its portrayal of regular
people in dire situations. What also made the photos as popular as it was, and still is, is how they
reference fundamental and historic religious symbolism, especially the Migrant Mother whose
imagery of a woman tirelessly caring for her children alludes to the similar historical
representations of Madonna and her child, Jesus Christ. While beloved for the realism of her

The War Plan For South Korea
North and South Korea, which have technically been at war for the last 65 years, are again acting
like it. (npr.org) They ve always been fighting each other, and this is another one of their battles. It
all started when there was an explosive from landmines in the DMZ, which is the sort of de facto
border that separates North and South Korea, which injured two South Korean soldiers that the
South has blamed on North Koreabut, of course, North Korea has not apologized for. (npr.org) That
angered South Korea which lead them to start anti North propaganda broadcasting through
loudspeakers. Consequently, both sides have been arguing at the DMZ. Then, everything was
settled when both sides made an agreement; however, no one really knows what Kim Jong Un will
do. As a result, the United Statesare hesitant, so the top U.S. commanders reviewed the U.S. war
plan for defending South Korea in case there was a sudden indication that North Korea was
going to begin a war. (cnn.com) They are on the watch for movement for activation of air
defences and artilleries. Currently, South Korea is low on missionary materials to fight North
Korea, so South Korea is going to need the U.S. s help. North Korea has half a million more
armed forces, 10,000 more artillery pieces, a thousand more tanks, and etc. This can be very
dangerous for South Korea if North attacks. It can also be dangerous if U.S. helps South Korea
meaning North Korea can attack U.S. Immigration has

Pestle Analysis For Sainsburys
1. Introduction The global economy has suffered a lot of changes since the Great Depression and
World War II (1939 1945). Many people thought that after finishing the war, hard times would
come back again, but the global economy started growing little by little. New ideas and measure
systems were developed with the aim to improve the Global Economy. Nowadays, the way to
analyse and make predictions study and how the economy is running across the whole world
throughout is the PEST analysis (Political, economic and technological). Using this tool, we can

Taking a Closer Look at Alzheimer s Disease Essay
What is Alzheimer s disease? Alzheimer s disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia
known today. The term dementia refers to a variety of conditions that arise from the loss of nerve
cell function and/or nerve cell death in the brain, including Alzheimer s disease, vascular dementia,
Parkinson s disease, Creutzfeldt Jakob disease and other types of mixed dementia. Although all
types of dementia arise from neuronal damage and/or death, each form of dementia is associated
with distinct brain abnormalities and symptom patterns. Once a patient has been diagnosed with
dementia, a physician must conduct further tests in order to determine the exact form of dementia
that is present. Recent research indicates that many individuals,... Show more content on

United Cereal Essay
United Cereal was an organization embodied with a strong set of core values. They believed in
commitment, diligence and loyalty; attracted people to work for the company and promoted
managers from within. Their managers were committed to The UC Way and certain deeply rooted
beliefs like:
Listen to the customer led them to pioneer the use of research and focus groups.
Spot the trend, make the market led then to place high value on extensive market testing prior to

Honoring the past and embracing the future gave them a high regard for product development and

Centralized European Market Strategy being much more effective today because of the converging
consumer tastes, old cultural habits disappearing and EU regulations eroding market differences.
She could talk about the risk reward premium and allay Sanchez s concern about finances. She
could talk about giving the subsidiaries time to set their affairs in order to prepare for the launch.
Even Lou s concerns about consumers and market research would be addressed by performing them

Romanticism Nineteenth Century Imperialism
The nineteenth century was a time of sudden change and disruption of politics and social changes
within modern Europe. Holding to traditional attitudes and values of the past gave way to new
ideas of equality and socialism which disputed the traditions of European society. Through
important political leaders and philosophers liberalism, nationalism, and socialism created a time
bomb throughout Europe in the mid 1800s, resulting in massive revolutions. Within a century, class
struggles grew even more defined, which led to the revolutionary ism such as Romanticism,
nationalism, socialism, utilitarianism, communism, Darwinism, social Darwinism, and
imperialism. All of these ism s played an important role in Modern Europe, however, Imperialism
had an extraordinary effect on the nineteenth century European attitudes and aligned with majority
of Europe s socio economic class.
The Enlightenment period was when philosophers valued logic, reason, and rationality. This type of
thinking dominated much of European politics, philosophy, and art during the mid seventeenth and
end of eighteenth century until poets such as William Blake, William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor
Coleridge, Percy Bysshe Shelley and John Keats. These individuals were known as some of the
greatest poets during the Romanticism period. John Keats, wrote, what the imagination seizes as
beauty must be truth whether it existed before or not. Romanticism was inspired by a desire for
liberty, and these poets

thinking of the future and the circumstances but a slip of tongue might cost a lost. Facing the
lawsuit would be one very critical and important thing to consider. This might lead to a lot of
disturbance and chaos in the organization which could probably also lead to the downfall of the
organization. Paul should personally talk to Dean and try to explain to him what happened and
how the process worked and try to calm him down or he should offer him a position in the
organization which could make Dean happy and would prevent him from filing a lawsuit. If this
is done, Dean would not take any drastic steps and it could also make him feel better because he
already feels bad about his disability. The best fit solution would be to come up with a mutual
understanding so that both Dean and the organization are happy and nobody is affected by the
decision. This matters a lot and will play an important role in this case

Abstract Power reduction is an major challenge in the integrated circuit design since it degrades
the chip performance the reliability. Frequent transistor switching caused due to large IR voltage
drops gives raise to timing violations and logic failures. A new clock control strategy is been
introduced in this paper such that the simultaneous switching of the combinational paths is
minimized. This is achieved by clustering the delay slacks having similar slack values. Once the
paths are identified based on the path delays and their slack values the clustering algorithm
determines the path to clusters in a load balanced manner based on the slack values and each
cluster will have a phase shift possible on its clock depending on the slack.
INTRODUCTION
Low power has emerged as a major goal in today s electronics industry. The motivations for
reducing power consumption differ from application to application. For high performance, portable
computers, such as laptop and notebook computers, the goal is to reduce the power dissipation of
the electronics portion of the system to a point that is about half of the total power dissipation
(including that of display and hard disk).

The Success And Viability Of U.s. Healthcare
Quality Movement Erin Hale HCM 420 H1WW Instructor: Dr. JoAnn Jordan November 13th, 2016
Introduction The success and viability of U.S. healthcare organizations has become increasingly
dependent on their ability to provide high quality care. According to Buttell, Hendler, Daley, the
concept of healthcare quality involves delivering services that increase the likelihood of improved
health outcomes for both patients and populations, utilizes the most up to date professional
knowledge, and meets and/or exceeds the expectations of consumers and payers (2007). This paper
will provide a brief overview of the history of quality movement, outline key characteristics involved
in quality evolution, discuss process improvement and its relation to quality movement, and
investigate the impact that health information technology and Practice Based Research Networks
have had on quality evolution in the U.S. healthcare industry. History According to Chassin O
Kane, the primary objective of quality movement is the same for all industries to offer safe products
/services that meet customer expectations (n.d.). The groundwork for modern quality improvement
was laid by Walter Shewhart, Edward Deming, and Joseph Juran (Chassin O Kane, n.d.). In 1924,
Walter Shewhart developed the Shewhart Cycle, which was used to continuously improve
production processes, thereby better developing and controlling how final products were produced.
In the 1940 s, Edward Deming expanded on the

Why Dogs Are Expensive Pets
One could say having a dog is easy, but that s correct think about food, the vet, toys, ruined
furniture, training classes and crates. Dogs are expensive pets because of the food, the vet, and
containment. Dog food is expensive because it s sold in big bags, wet food and dry food.
The factory that makes dog food fills the bag up. Then the factory price it by how much it weighs.
It costs $2 to 3$ per pound and raw pet food cost $12 per pound. Raw dog food is expensive
because it is considered natural and fresh from nature. Wet food It is easier to give to puppies
because it s soft and not processed to hard, dry food. Dry food doesn t cost as much as raw food
because it doesn t have as much protein as the dry food when it is heated most of protein comes
off. The dry food scapes the dog s teeth and builds up plaque. Wet food cleans the teeth and
prevents plaque from building up. natural pet food, that jumps to $2.64. Organic pet food was
up at $3.66 a pound, and raw food beat them all at $12.08 per pound. Deena Shanker is a food and

together is about $900 $1000. Check ups don t cost as much as an emergency in the ER. It s just
a look to see how one s pet is doing. Vets sometimes do extra check ups to make the bill even
more expensive. The bills that come back are usually very high in price because emergency trips,
check ups and medication. Diagnostic procedures alone can cost between $1,000 and $2,000, says

The Cross And The Lynching Tree Chapter Summary
The Cross and the Lynching Tree, written by James Cone, is an emotionally charged book that
criticizes the church and the black community within America. The first words of chapter one, they
put him to death by hanging him on the tree, [ ] have a strong first impression to the reader,
immediately stating the issue at hand. The act of lynching began throughout the Roman Empire
for rebels and insurrectionists where it became a public spectacle and humiliation. It was said in
Deuteronomy 21:23, this is punishment of being hung from a tree that was seen as a curse from
God. [ ] The first paradox symbol within the book is presented here where the cross brings forth the
idea that hope derives from defeat where then suffering and death is not the last thing. However, the

the sins of the human race. The irony presented here demonstrates how the lynching of Jesus Christ
of Him dying on the cross and the lynching of five thousand African American individuals have a
great difference in American theology where those who committed the acts within the states did not
see the similarities between them both. Martin Luther King Jr. had a prominent role within society
in America where he sought out to teach the white race of the United States that if the cross were
the pillar of the Christian faith then they would soon learn that the lynching tree is the American
cross. Even with the outlaw of segregation through the case of Brown vs. the Board of Education,
lynching was a shocking reminder to the American population of the power the white race had upon

The Career Technical Education Model Curriculum Standards
ABSTRACT
Today s economy demands a better educated workforce than ever before, and jobs in this new
economy require more complex knowledge and skills than the jobs of the past. The California
Department of Education and the California State Board of Education are pleased to present the
California Career Technical Education Framework for California Public Schools, Grades Seven
through Twelve. The California Career Technical Education Model Curriculum Standards, Grades
Seven Through Twelve, adopted by the State Board of Education (SBE) in 2005, was designed to
help achieve that goal by providing educators with rigorous, balanced standards reflecting both the
essential knowledge needed to achieve a seamless transition to careers or postsecondary education
or training and the specific skills required for each of the state s 58 career pathways.
This publication, the Career Technical Education Framework for California Public Schools, is the
blueprint for educators to use in implementing the career technical education (CTE) model
curriculum standards adopted by the SBE. It provides a context for the content laid out by the
standards, discusses best practices, and explores important issues in the implementation of those
standards.

Croatia Transition
In May 1990, the first multi party elections were held in Croatia and were won by the Croat
nationalist party of Franjo Tudjman. The Croatian Democratic Union, HDZ, was therefore the first
regime given control of the newly independent Croatia. Under Tudjman s administration, ethnic
war caused Croatia to take a large step back and instead of focusing on further democratizing the
country; Tudjman was forced to pivot his attention to the Homeland War efforts. The Serb
population of Croatia began to rebel in 1990, and according to Croatian lecturer Pero Maldini, they
began blocking the roads and later expelling the Croatian and other non Serb population before
turning to direct violence. This Serb rebellion was initiated by the Greater... Show more content on

It set the tone for future policies and regimes needed to push the country further towards
democratization. By 1992, Tudjman was forced to form the Croat army in an effort to defend
the state from aggression. The Croat army was successful in fighting some of the aggression
along with the help from UN peacekeeping forces. In May and August 1995, the military
operations Flash and Storm helped liberate the most occupied areas in the state. These
operations marked the Croatian victory of its aggressors and the official end to the war.
Operation Oluja or more commonly known as Storm was the last major battle of the Croatian
War of Independence and Marcus Tanner claims, Operation Oluja marked the apotheosis of
Tudjman s presidency. It was as if all his energy and concentration had been fixed on the goal of
securing Croatia s independence over all the territory it had been accorded by the post Second
World War arrangement in Yugoslavia. Here we can observe that Tudjman s main goal at the time
was to make Croatia a truly independent state and this was his way of further democratizing the
country. However, Tudjman s efforts weren t really beneficial for aiding democracy according to
Pero Maldini, The length of the war, its vast material destruction and the suffering of numerous
citizens had substantially slowed down, and in some cases even completely impeded
democratization processes. The

They are very strict when it comes to obeying these laws. Punishments are given to those who
are not conforming to the rules of the state. Singapore is also called a partly free country.
Economically, Singapore has a very unreachable and unbelievable status. Unreachable because it
has a highly developed market based economy. It is one of the major traders in the world. Their
GDP are largely based on their exports. Because of its low tax rates, work force, and business
friendly environment, and its being a free market economy, Singapore has attracted many
foreign investors. Thus, leading it to be one of the very prosperous country in the world. It is
also unbelievable because for a country that is so small, all of these were made possible. A brief
history of Singapore is necessary in this case study. The name Singapore can actually be derived
from the words Singa and Pura which means Lion and City respectively. In 1819, Thomas
Stamford Raffles arrived and signed a treaty which allows the development of the southern part of
Singapore as a British trading post. In 1824, the whole island became colonized by the British and
eventually it became the capital of the Straits Settlements. The colonization of Singapore has led it
to its status as of now. It has strong global trading links with different countries and it owns a port
that is one of the busiest ports in the world. This only shows that Singapore is a very

Too much Tolerance Essay
Too much Tolerance
Dogmatic Tolerance = Hypocritical
Tolerance. It is a word synonymous with peace, good will, brotherly love, acceptance and
forgiveness. It is a virtue that is essential in a world filled with racial and religious discrimination.
But at the same time tolerance, or, more specifically, the modern, politically correct definition of
tolerance, holds some very dangerous pitfalls which, if our government, and we, as a people are
not careful of, could be crippling to the individualism, and the religious diversity of Canada, and the
world.
The dictionary definition of tolerance is: The capacity for, or the practice of recognizing and
respecting the beliefs or practices of others , but the definition has become much, ... Show more

But incompatibility will be wiped away, and anything that is sure, or real will be snuffed out as
narrow mindedness.
You see, complete tolerance is impossible. By being so dogmatically tolerant as to state that there is
no complete truth, is to, because of the nature of that statement, exclude, or be intolerant towards
those whose beliefs state otherwise. Complete tolerance is an oxymoron, and is incompatible with
many religious beliefs including Christianities, whose bible clearly states that it is the only true
religion . In that case, total tolerance is not only impossible, it also limits the ability of many to
worship fully in their religion. The government is passing through various bills and amendments
that are pushed through in the name of tolerance, but, in fact, according to the true definition if it is
still permissible to say such a thing these bills are decreasing the amount of tolerance that our
government has towards groups whose ideas qualify as hate literature.
That is why we need to act. Tolerance is good, but tolerance under the label that society has given
it will become harmful to the public, and to the church. Racism is horrible, yes. Religious
discrimination is illegitimate, of course. Words and names such as Apartheid , the Catholic
Crusades and Bloody Mary will not be forgotten or missed, but if our path continues down the road
it is traveling, tolerance will be grouped into a section of the English language that

The Mystery Of Ghost Stories
Mystery ships are ships where something indescribable or unknown has occurred on that ship.
For instance, the whole crew could have died like on the SS Ourang Medan, or the whole crew
could have disappeared like on the Resolven, or even the ship could disappear like on the SS
Baychimo. When these things happen with no evidence to prove what occurred, they become a
mystery. These three shipshave become some of the most well known ghost stories today.
It was the February of 1947 when the SS Ourang Medan was traveling near the Indonesian
Coastline and sent out distress calls that were heard by many different ships and listening posts.
From these calls, it was hard to know what was happening on the ship but the listeners knew it was
something awful (Matthews). The first message received by the rescue people was, All officers
including captain are dead, lying in chartroom and bridge. Possibly whole crew dead,
(Matthews). The next messages that were received were a series of indecipherable morse codes
that were followed by the message I die, (Matthews). It took a few hours before a ship could
come to help the Ourang Medan. Finally, the Ourang Medan was found through triangulation,
which uses a series of network triangles to find the position of points in a specific region
(Matthews). The rescue ship that arrived on the scene was the American boat known as the 6507th
Silver Star. When the Silver Star arrived, its crew members tried to get a response from the Ourang

Foltz Gray D. The Native American effect It is clear that throughout many years there has been an
exemption of treatment when talking about the Native Americans in the United States. Supposedly
every individual is endowed with the right of freedom, equality, and of seeking for happiness, but
Native Americans were treated irrationally. From the discovery of America, to the founding fathers
and settlers, the treatment and attitude towards Native Americans has been unsettling at best. The
colonial policies toward the Native Americans affected the Indians in ways that changed their
relationship between their tribes and the new nation. Cabeza de Vaca, Roger Williams, Cotton
Mather, and Benjamin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Roger Williams was an American Protestant theologian, and the first American proponent of
religious freedom and the separation of church and state. He was a student of Native American
languages and an advocate for fair dealings with Native Americans. Having learned their language
and customs, Williams gave up the idea of being a missionary and never baptized a single Indian.
Having established a rapport with and understanding off the Native Americans, Williams became a
keen and sympathetic observer of the native people. He called on Puritans to deal fairly with the
Native Americans. Williams nevertheless saw that the American Indians were no better or worse
that the rogues who dealt with them, and that in fact they possessed a marked degree of civility
(Williams The Norton Anthology American Literature p.174). During the late years of the 17th
century, the Native Americans and Puritan settlers had struggled to get along. Due to their clashing
views on political and cultural issues, neither faction regarded the other as a respectable group.
Cotton Mather displays a totally antagonistic view towards the Native Americans. Mather proves a
negative relationship between the natives and the settlers by displaying the barbarous behavior or
violent actions of those whom they consider to be culpable of wickedness. I believe when

World War 1 Atmosphere Essay
In the years leading up to WWI, there was an extremely tense atmosphere in whichwhere nations
were all but fighting. A number of factors led to this atmosphere of tension, and ultimately, to
World War Onehe war. MThese factors were militarism combined with the glorification of war, and
a resulting sense of fear that created an atmosphere where war felt inevitable and drove nations to
make alliances.
The combination of militarism and the glorification of war was particularly dangerous, as theyit
created a Europe in which all wanted and prepared for a devastating war. Previously, in Europe,
war had consisted of small conflicts between nations that undoubtedly ended in glory and rewards
for the victor, which led to an atmosphere in which ads ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This exemplifies the mindset in Europe and in western culture in the 19th to 20th centuries, as it
shows that even though all countries strive for peace and prosperity, there is nothing equal to
winning a war. No matter how great or how profitable a peace is, it would never be as great as
triumph in war. This degree of nationalism that Theodore Roosevelt shows can only be achieved
in war, combined with the fact that Europeans associated war with religion and as a necessary
part of life, led to a very tense atmosphere where war felt inevitable. With all this international
tension, militarism became an increasingly important part of each nation s ideals, and with it, the
military leaders gained power. One example of this is the beginning of Germany s involvement in
WWI, The Kaiser learnt that Britain would remain neutral so long as Germany refrained from
attacking France. (...) He said, We must halt the march to the west. (...) It is impossible, said
General Moltke(...). As in Russia, so in Germany, the military men triumphed. (Roberts, 51). Much
of WWI could have been avoided if the Germans had simply turned back, and if the

A Day At A Beach In The Bahamas
When the sun begins to hide behind the horizon there is only one environment on the planet that
harnesses the power to leave oneself in complete and utter awe. This one of a kind place captures
all of the elements in their perfect and most striking form. The sky bolsters with eloquent colors,
the warm sand caresses your toes, and the soothing waves break with the most perfect noise as to
not break your focus on the sunset; it is just as captivating as a north poles aurora borealis. A certain

One can agree that during the day, the beach can be a noisy place: music, kids, and talkative
individuals can all make a difference in the pleasantness of your beach day. During the day in
the Bahamas it is quite loud due to the numerous tourists in the area who want to party and have
a good time, but at dusk, it stops. Little by little the beach gets less populated with clamorous
people and feels more like your own oasis. You begin to hone in on the sounds: the rave music is
now more calming; it is maybe playing reggae or something else soothing. The seagulls seem to
chirp less, and you are suddenly all alone. As you walk down the beach waiting for the sun to set
you feel the softness of the sand, and look back to see how your feet have been molded to
become one with the beach. When the sun sets and the sky radiates comforting colors, you
begin to feel different: the beach resonates the warmth of the sky through your feet, up into your
heart. You look around and see the landscape of the beach has been made lively by the colors of
the sky. The rocks blush from the sky s red tint, and the palm trees look to be slow dancing in the
warming breeze. Your body is captured by good feelings and is hypnotized by the sunset s effect on
this beach. There is still one last element to the whole picture

Summary Of The Book Nothing About Us, Without Us
Nothing About Us, Without Us is a major contribution in the analysis of the movement of disability
rights. Nothing About Us, Without Us is an expression that shows that the disability community

States, coming out of the social activism of the 1960 s. This movement really gained momentum
worldwide with the United Nations. This book is about determination of own self s and disability
community making its own decisions. Nothing About Us, Without Us is important for Disability

all people with different disabilities.
Jim Charlton, author of the book, looked at similarities and differences in disability right issues in
numerous countries and develops a theory of disability oppression that cuts across geographical

Etihw lived in a realm of monochrome, her land devoid of any life aside from her own. She saw it

Siralos got another grand idea, almost as good as the idea to create the world. Earth! Yes, Earth!
Oh, Elux, you genius! He praised his sister, who puffed out her chest in pride. Etihw and Liliya
hummed in agreement, nodding at the eldest immortal.
And so, with the agreement, the four called the world Earth, and watched as their creation evolved
into more than what they could even think of, seeing pride in their mortals own creations. They
became filled with pride each time they were reminded of their children s progress, and watched as
new conflicts arose, and die out just as quickly. Though the four knew their creations may never

Medium Voltage, High Power Applications
medium voltage, high power applications (e.g. industrial drives, and photovoltaic systems) three

low voltage, high power traction applications have also been introduced [3, 4]. Amongst different
variants of three level inverter topologies [5], the T type Neutral Point
Clamped (T NPC) inverter, as shown in Fig. 1, has been shown to be the most promising solution
for low voltage, high power traction applications [4]. Each phase leg of this topology consists of

Previously reported three level DPWM schemes concluded that at a lower power factor, the three
level DPWM schemes cannot perfectly align the 60В° no switching durations [4, 17] with phase

switching loss reduction is limited during low power factor operation.
Unequal current stress distribution: With conventional three level modulation strategies, the inner

inner devices carry a substantially higher amount of current compared to the outer devices. This
effectively limits the output current capability of the drive when needed most, typically during
starting from standstill and during acceleration/deceleration [21].

The United States has an unbelievable history of domestic violence. It is a detrimental part of our
nation history that has been ignored and down played for many years. There are several instances
of American violence, however I will focus on the heinous acts of violence committed against
African American citizens by white people. Throughout history white people remained dominate
over minorities by way of intimidation, slavery and even violence. I feel that lynching was one of
the many ways whites maintain control and kept blacks suppressed. I will discuss the different
aspects of lynching. Lynching can be legal as well as illegal.

BMI (but not height) between 21 and 36 mo and 21 and 60 mo, with no evidence of diminution
over time (Pimpin et al., p.6). Authors were able to determine that there was a correlation between
protein intake and BMI. In addition, they provided more evidences. They say, We observed greater
increases in BMI and weight up to 36 mo among children who consumed 15% of their energy from

were some limitations in the study. Misreporting is one of them (Pimpin et al.). The variables of the
study were based on the parental reporting. Therefore, if they did not provide the accurate

Differences Of Abrahamic Religions
Throughout the duration of human history, one question has been omnipresent in the minds of
philosophers and common folk alike: Does god exist? While dozens of religions have been
established with unique and varying elaborations on this question, the three principal Abrahamic
religions stand out for their massive accumulations of devoted followers. And though the
fundamentals of the Abrahamic religionsare inherently different, they all share similar ideology on
the afterlife. Furthermore, these three religions homogeneously stress the importance of prayer as a
means to achieve fulfillment. And although there are many parallel ideas and practices, these
religions also host an abundance of differences. Namely, the difference in the interpretation of the
Old and New Testaments. Moreover, Abrahamic religions even draw differences in their dietary
restrictions. One of the more interesting points of concurrence in the three major Abrahamic
religions is the belief in an afterlife. Though conditions of the afterlife in Abrahamic religions vary,
Islam, Christianity, and Judaismall emphasize the importance of staying in god s grace in order to
ascend to a variation of heaven after the physical body dies here on Earth. In these regions
worshippers are promised post mortal nirvana after death in exchange for their servitude in life.
Conversely, in Christianity and Islam, if a follower veers from the righteous path they are likely to

Examples of some elements are hydrogen, oxygen, and helium. Under normal conditions many

the two principal of gases of the air of our atmosphere are nitrogen and oxygen. Each molecule of
gaseous nitrogen is composed of two atoms of nitrogen bound together by electrical forces, and
likewise for gaseous oxygen. A rarer gas in our atmosphere is carbon dioxide, a molecule of which
contains one atom of carbon and two atoms of oxygen. On the other hand, molecule of helium gas
contains only one atom of helium. Atoms are bound together to form molecules by electrical forces.
The composition of atoms Atoms are neutral as a whole, they consist of smaller particles that are
electrically charged. If two atoms are far apart compared to the size of the atoms, each atom acts
like an electrically neutral object because the effects of the positive and negative charges cancel

charged constituents of the other because the positive and

Activation Synthesis Theory Of Sleep
Sleep is a beautiful thing, but people do not get enough of it. It is a time for the body to
rejuvenate and process the events of the day. Sleeping is something that we seek out. Getting the
recommended amount of sleep allows our body to function properly the next day. Without it, there
could be detrimental consequences. The National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke
says that without sleep, neurons could be polluted with byproducts . In severe cases, people who
get very little sleep often experience mood swings, hallucinations and cells do not continue to
reproduce. According to the National Sleep Foundation, sleeping makes up one third of a person s
lifetime. Despite that fact, people do not get nearly enough sleep to be productive.... Show more

I was not able to sleep as much during the school week. Monday night through Friday morning, I
averaged five hours of sleep. Because I was unable to go through the four stages of sleep and
REM sleep, I did not function to my fullest potential. During school, I found it difficult to focus.
My lack of sleep did not allow me to remember very many of my dreams during the school week.
From Friday night to Sunday night, I was able to sleep much more because I did not have a
crushing amount of homework. Although I did sleep the recommended eight hours those days,
I only remember a little snippet of a dream. From Friday night to Saturday morning, I remember
my family and I on a beach together in Hawaii. Dreaming about Hawaii represents trying to
escape your daily problems. That is fitting because the end of the school week oftentimes I want
to forget all of the work that I have to accomplish over the coming weekend. Family represents
security, warmth and love. This could be because I am leaving for college next year, and I do not
fully know what will happen, and I desire a sense of warmth and love from my family. My dream
follows the Activation Synthesis Hypothesis for two main reasons. It follows the parameter that the
dream goes along with something going on in my life. The second reason is that my brain was
trying to comprehend what was going

The Structure And Building Of Sophisticated Tunnels
In the mining world, there are three different types of tunnels. There are rudimentary,
interconnecting, and sophisticated but this paper will only focus on the structure and building of
sophisticated tunnels. Some features of a sophisticated tunnel are that it reach as deep as seventy
feet underground and tall and wide enough for an adult to walk through or for a mine cart to be
pushed through. When building these sophisticated tunnels, first the earth is chipped away by
handheld electric spades and the workers are filling sandbags with dirt and rocks in order to have
the clearest pathway in the tunnel. Then the rail systems tart to get set up where it s just a large
metal crate connected to an electric pulley system in order to get the sandbags with dirt and rocks
out of the tunnel.
A structural feature about these tunnels is that the ceiling would be slightly arched in order to
distribute the pressure and weight of the earth to prevent a collapse. Another feature of
sophisticated tunnels is the ventilation when a black plastic tubes connected by pipe clamps
would be affixed to the top of the tunnel in order to provide oxygen for the workers. The rail
system that was in sophisticated tunnels was two metal tracks that were laid down to bring debris
to the surface by the elevator in order to get it out of the way. In sophisticated tunnels, usually there
would be wood or concrete enforcement along the walls in order to prevent the tunnel from caving
in.

Will Low Interest Rates Eventually Boost Corporate Risk...
Will Low Interest Rates Eventually Boost Corporate Risk Taking?
The intellectual foundation for cutting central bank policy rates to near zero is based on the
traditional view that a lower cost of debt funding will boost aggregate demand via an increase in
capital spending as well as higher borrowing by the private sector. The credibility of this viewpoint
has, however, been increasingly questioned over time, particularly in the wake of Japan s
prolonged experience with ultra low interest rates and its ensuing failure to encourage the growth of
private sector leverage. Nominal interest rates remain very low in advanced economies, but there is
considerable variation on inflation adjusted measures on a cross border basis. Real interest rates
remain high in Japan due to deflationary expectations, despite the fact that prices have ceased
falling. It was the persistence of deflationary psychology and high real interest rates that
consequently produced a prolonged corporate balance sheet recession, where the main objective
was to pay down debt. Risk taking endeavours, such as capital spending, were, therefore, off limits
during this period. Despite having much healthier balance sheets, Corporate Japan continues to sit
on a mountain of cash, equivalent to 48% of GDP. Meanwhile, US companies also continue to
operate with high levels of liquidity. The willingness to use leverage during the current cycle has,
however, been somewhat higher in the US vis Г vis Japan. There is also a

Changes and Ion Channels Affected by Psilocybin
Psilocybin belongs to the classification of drugs called hallucinogens. Hallucinogens typically act
by stimulating serotonin receptors at different times or for longer durations than serotonin itself
would (Kalat 2004). When psilocybin enters the brain, the enzyme alkaline breaks down one of its
phosphate groups through hydrolysis. It then becomes psilocin, an even stronger hallucinogen
(Psilocybin 2003). It is particularly potent due to the position of its hydroxyl group (Jacobs 1984).
Psilocin is a postsynaptic serotonin receptor agonist. In other words, its similar structure allows it to

The other is to suppress sensory systems during the waking state
(Powell 2004). When psilocin binds to the 5HT2A receptors, it inhibits the uptake of serotonin,
thereby decreasing inhibitory serotonin activity. This results in an increase of alertness and arousal.
Another theory asserts that the important activity of psilocin takes place at the proximal dendrites
of level V pyramidal cells, as this is the area of the brain with the highest concentration of 5HT2A
receptors. In support of this theory, this is the only area of the brain where directly applies
serotonin excites cells. The receptors do not activate pyramidal cells directly but through action
potential. This is demonstrated by the fact that drugs that stop the action potential prevent the
5HT2A induced excitation. While action potential is required for such excitation, stimulation of the
5HT2A receptors does not result in increased action potential.
The excitation mechanism can also be blocked by presynaptic inhibitors, showing that activity in
the presynaptic 5HT2A receptors that connect with pyramidal cells is also crucial
(Connely 2004). According to Marek and Aghajanian 1998, page
1123, An enhancement of asynchronous evoked [excitatory postsynaptic potentials] via 5HT2A
receptors provides a possible synaptic mechanism for the hallucinogenic effects of these drugs.

The Twin Towers Of The World Trade Center
The Twin waterfalls that are placed in the ground where the twin towers of the World Trade
Center once stood serve as a memorial to the events that took place on Tuesday, September 11,
2001. The Architect of these twin waterfalls, Michael Arad, wanted to create a memorial that
was stoic and defiant, but also quiet and respectful. Arad explained. I didn t want a design that
felt the need to scream loudly. I felt the site was frightened with so much history, anything we
say here is amplified a thousand fold. The project that Arad had in mind was no easy feat, it took
roughly 6 years to complete due to numerous architectural obstacles that the workers had to
conquer. This mechanical marvel is able to send water from the bottom of the waterfall back to
the top at an astonishing rate of 24,000 gallons per minute. However, gusts of wind cause
turbulence on top of the water so the engineers needed to create a system that is not only strong,
but also able to variate the power given to these pumps in order to maintain that serene aesthetic
look of the water smoothly flowing down the waterfall. This mechanical marvel also boasts filters
to take sediment out, UV lights to kill bacteria, and chemical additives to prevent the water from
becoming polluted. Every minute detail has been thought of by architect Michael Arad and
landscape architect Peter Walker. For example, trees were placed surrounding these waterfalls in
order to comfort and calm those who come to this spot to mourn.

Zeus Personality
Zeus was considered to be the leader of the Olympian gods of Mount Olympus. He was the god
of the sky and thunder. He had many powers but the most significant was the power to wield
lightning bolts. He could hurl lightning bolts at people who defied him or other gods who he
was displeased with. He was the youngest child of Cronus and Rhea and was planned to get
eaten by Cronus like all of his brothers and sisters before him, but he was hidden from Cronus at
Mount Dicte. He then went on to overthrow Cronus and control the gods. He had twenty four
children and some of them were powerful gods. He also had some half god children like Hercules.
He lives on the top of Mount Olympus with Hera, his wife.
Zeus most significant and well known power was the ability to hold lightning bolts. He could
throw them like a javelin at people or gods that did not please him or defied him. He had his
winged horse Pegasus carry his lighting bolts and had his eagle pick them up after he threw them.

Examples Of Foil In Antigone
Antigone by Sophocles, tells the story of two brothers, of one is given a proper burial and the other
is not. Throughout the story two characters contrast. In literature, a foil is a character that has
contrasting traits from another character. These distinctions often better develop characters and
help the reader notice the specific traits of each character. Antigonewho is outgoing, aggressive, and
willing to fight for what she believes in, contrasts with her sister, who is more introverted, soft
spoken, and cautious. Ismene is a foil for Antigone. Before committing the crime of burying
Polynices, Antigone must ask Ismene for help. Minimizing the risk of her crime, Antigone asks
Ismene for help as if it s a simple favor. Will you help me? Will you do something with me? Will
you? (507) Ismene, uncomfortable with helping Antigone, must decline. This is difficult for her,
so instead of just saying no, she feels she needs to give some sort of explanation. O sister, sister,
do you forget how our father perished in shame and misery, his awful sin self proved, blinded by
his own self mutilation? And then his mother, his wife, for she was both, destroyed herself in a
noose of her own making? And now our brothers, both in a single day... (507) Ismene... Show more

Andy Griffith Show Compare And Contrast
In contrast the shows The Andy Griffith Show and I Love Lucy, these shows have plenty of
differences. The first difference between the two shows, is the setting of the shows; a big city
versus a small hometown. I Love Lucy was set in a big city, during the late 1095 s, that is home
to lots of people and many different businesses and places. The Andy Griffith Show was set in a
small town, during the early 1950 s, everyone knows everyone by name. The location of both
shows sets the stage for the storylines to come.
Secondly, regarding the social status, Andy, from The Andy Griffith Show was a single father to
his son Opie, and took care of his Aunt Bea and was also the town sheriff. He had his trusted

The characters on The Andy Griffith Show had a small comedic side, but the show was about
doing the right thing and good moral values. Andy was constantly thinking of the other person(s)
and there was always a good lesson learned every episode. In one episode, Andy and Otis decided
to switch Aunt Bea s pickles with store bought pickles, as the ones she made were terrible and they
did not want to hurt her feelings or their stomachs. I Love Lucy on the other hand was all about the
comedy. Lucy was frequently trying to find a way to get stuff done in an odd matter. In one of
the episodes we watched Lucy tried to get the answers to a radio show she signed them up for as
she found out Desi was not as smart as he made himself seem.
The third contrast between these shows was the filming style that was used. I Love Lucy was
produced using a multi camera telefilm method. The show was also filmed in front of a live
audience, which gave the sitcom more life. The Andy Griffith Show on the other hand was filmed
using a single camera technique. Those factors alone changed the feel of the shows. With The Andy
Griffith Show, you could feel him walking though out the town. With I Love Lucy there was the

Victorian Era Medicine
vDuring the Victorian era, medicine was not as advanced as it is today. Medical practices
employed techniques that have been used for a very long time. Even when there were new
breakthrough in medicine, doctors, such as physicians, surgeons and apothecaries barely used them.
Medical training in the early nineteenth century was very different and diverse. Even though
some people had degrees from colleges that were very advanced and very known, some were
apprenticed to apothecaries where they spent most of their time capping bottles and rolling pills
(Youngson 12). Still others were quacks and drug peddlers who practiced freely with no legal
sanctions against them.
In the United Kingdom, there were three groups of authentic medical groups. They were the
physician, the surgeons, and the apothecaries. Some would call them the Royal College of
Physician, the Royal College of Surgeons, and the Society of apothecaries.
Physicians were taught in universities and people said that when it came to medicine, the knew
the most. They were not allowed to take the roll of a surgeon or give out drugs like an apothecary
until 1858. They were only allowed to examine patients, diagnose disease, and give medicine. In
1800, there were only 179 licensed physicians and by 1847, the number of physicians grew and
became 683.

treating skin disorders. The surgeon s work distracted him from a physician

  • 2. Summary Of Rules Of The Game By Amy Tan Imagine being one of the best. Standing on a podium holding a trophy, yet coming home to parents who are disappointed because you stood 3rd place on that podium. This is how Waverley feels in the short story Rules of the Game by Amy Tan. Waverly lives with her mother, father, and two older brothers in an apartment in Chinatown, San Francisco. Waverly loves to run around in the bustling streets of her neighborhood smelling red beans and pastries being cooked nearby. One Christmas, the Jong familywent to their nearby church for a Christmas party, and Waverly s brother got a chessset. This chess set sprouted a new hobby for Waverly, and soon after she played chess every day. Waverly became a chess star, with a mother who wanted nothing less than her daughter to be number one. Extreme tension built up from Mrs. Jong pressure, eventually leading the mother and daughter into a fight that could ruin their relationship. The way Mrs. Jong reacted to Waverly s talent is especially significant in Waverly s development. Sometimes when parents support their children too much it can stressthem out, and parents can often forget that children are children and you must let them relax. Throughout Rules of the game , Mrs. Jong supports Waverly so much that Waverly feels as if she can t mess up, for it would disappoint her mother. This leads to Waverly feeling a lot of pressure and stress. Near the end of the story, before the fight, Waverly mentions a time she was trying to practice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Dorothea Lange And The Migrant Woman During the first half of the 20th century, Photographs, songs, and cartoons tried to interpret the problems of the time through different kinds of imagery and tone with varying amounts of success, from praise and awe to disgust and rejection. In the early 20th century, Americans were suffering from the Great Depressionand its high unemployment rates, droughts and terrible living conditions, so when they first saw the series of photographs by Dorothea Lange, including the Migrant Mother, they were in awe of how it captured their situation, as well as their beliefs, perfectly. Not only did they represent the people as dignified human beings whose plight would elicit sympathy, not ridicule, Lange s photos captured the idea that Poverty was a distressing matter..., not an embarrassing one, simply by photographing people on the streets they were living on, filming them in their element. People were in pain and just by taking photos of this problem, with some modifications and positioning, Lange s art became a tireless and universal symbol of suffering in the face of adversity with its portrayal of regular people in dire situations. What also made the photos as popular as it was, and still is, is how they reference fundamental and historic religious symbolism, especially the Migrant Mother whose imagery of a woman tirelessly caring for her children alludes to the similar historical representations of Madonna and her child, Jesus Christ. While beloved for the realism of her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The War Plan For South Korea North and South Korea, which have technically been at war for the last 65 years, are again acting like it. (npr.org) They ve always been fighting each other, and this is another one of their battles. It all started when there was an explosive from landmines in the DMZ, which is the sort of de facto border that separates North and South Korea, which injured two South Korean soldiers that the South has blamed on North Koreabut, of course, North Korea has not apologized for. (npr.org) That angered South Korea which lead them to start anti North propaganda broadcasting through loudspeakers. Consequently, both sides have been arguing at the DMZ. Then, everything was settled when both sides made an agreement; however, no one really knows what Kim Jong Un will do. As a result, the United Statesare hesitant, so the top U.S. commanders reviewed the U.S. war plan for defending South Korea in case there was a sudden indication that North Korea was going to begin a war. (cnn.com) They are on the watch for movement for activation of air defences and artilleries. Currently, South Korea is low on missionary materials to fight North Korea, so South Korea is going to need the U.S. s help. North Korea has half a million more armed forces, 10,000 more artillery pieces, a thousand more tanks, and etc. This can be very dangerous for South Korea if North attacks. It can also be dangerous if U.S. helps South Korea meaning North Korea can attack U.S. Immigration has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Peak Power Reduction by controlling clock using path clustering Sindhu V1 and Mr.P.Nagarajan2 1PG Scholar, Dept of ECE, Vivekanandha College of Engineering for Women, ssshaadhu@gmail.com 2Assistant professor,Dept of ECE, Vivekanandha college of engineering for Women ,greennagarajan@gmail.com Abstract Power reduction is an major challenge in the integrated circuit design since it degrades the chip performance the reliability. Frequent transistor switching caused due to large IR voltage drops gives raise to timing violations and logic failures. A new clock control strategy is been introduced in this paper such that the simultaneous switching of the combinational paths is minimized. This is achieved by clustering the delay slacks having similar slack values. Once the paths are identified based on the path delays and their slack values the clustering algorithm determines the path to clusters in a load balanced manner based on the slack values and each cluster will have a phase shift possible on its clock depending on the slack. INTRODUCTION Low power has emerged as a major goal in today s electronics industry. The motivations for reducing power consumption differ from application to application. For high performance, portable computers, such as laptop and notebook computers, the goal is to reduce the power dissipation of the electronics portion of the system to a point that is about half of the total power dissipation (including that of display and hard disk). Healthcare Quality Movement Erin Hale HCM 420 H1WW Instructor: Dr. JoAnn Jordan November 13th, 2016 Introduction The success and viability of U.S. healthcare organizations has become increasingly dependent on their ability to provide high quality care. According to Buttell, Hendler, Daley, the concept of healthcare quality involves delivering services that increase the likelihood of improved health outcomes for both patients and populations, utilizes the most up to date professional knowledge, and meets and/or exceeds the expectations of consumers and payers (2007). This paper will provide a brief overview of the history of quality movement, outline key characteristics involved in quality evolution, discuss process improvement and its relation to quality movement, and investigate the impact that health information technology and Practice Based Research Networks have had on quality evolution in the U.S. healthcare industry. History According to Chassin O Kane, the primary objective of quality movement is the same for all industries to offer safe products /services that meet customer expectations (n.d.). The groundwork for modern quality improvement was laid by Walter Shewhart, Edward Deming, and Joseph Juran (Chassin O Kane, n.d.). In 1924, Walter Shewhart developed the Shewhart Cycle, which was used to continuously improve production processes, thereby better developing and controlling how final products were produced. Dogs are expensive pets because of the food, the vet, and containment. Dog food is expensive because it s sold in big bags, wet food and dry food. The factory that makes dog food fills the bag up. Then the factory price it by how much it weighs. It costs $2 to 3$ per pound and raw pet food cost $12 per pound. Raw dog food is expensive because it is considered natural and fresh from nature. Wet food It is easier to give to puppies because it s soft and not processed to hard, dry food. Dry food doesn t cost as much as raw food because it doesn t have as much protein as the dry food when it is heated most of protein comes off. The dry food scapes the dog s teeth and builds up plaque. Wet food cleans the teeth and prevents plaque from building up. natural pet food, that jumps to $2.64. The act of lynching began throughout the Roman Empire for rebels and insurrectionists where it became a public spectacle and humiliation. It was said in Deuteronomy 21:23, this is punishment of being hung from a tree that was seen as a curse from God. Complete tolerance is an oxymoron, and is incompatible with many religious beliefs including Christianities, whose bible clearly states that it is the only true religion . Together, the four immortals lived in harmony, all of their needs were fulfilled as they lived in their respective realms that suit each individual. Etihw lived in a realm of monochrome, her land devoid of any life aside from her own. She saw it that there would be no peace if there was life; with life came war, was her statement to the other three. Etihw and Liliya hummed in agreement, nodding at the eldest immortal. And so, with the agreement, the four called the world Earth, and watched as their creation evolved into more than what they could even think of, seeing pride in their mortals own creations. They became filled with pride each time they were reminded of their children s progress, and watched as new conflicts arose, and die out just as quickly. And though the fundamentals of the Abrahamic religionsare inherently different, they all share similar ideology on the afterlife. Some features of a sophisticated tunnel are that it reach as deep as seventy feet underground and tall and wide enough for an adult to walk through or for a mine cart to be pushed through. • 42. Will Low Interest Rates Eventually Boost Corporate Risk... Will Low Interest Rates Eventually Boost Corporate Risk Taking? The intellectual foundation for cutting central bank policy rates to near zero is based on the traditional view that a lower cost of debt funding will boost aggregate demand via an increase in capital spending as well as higher borrowing by the private sector. The credibility of this viewpoint has, however, been increasingly questioned over time, particularly in the wake of Japan s prolonged experience with ultra low interest rates and its ensuing failure to encourage the growth of private sector leverage. Nominal interest rates remain very low in advanced economies, but there is considerable variation on inflation adjusted measures on a cross border basis. Real interest rates remain high in Japan due to deflationary expectations, despite the fact that prices have ceased falling. It was the persistence of deflationary psychology and high real interest rates that consequently produced a prolonged corporate balance sheet recession, where the main objective was to pay down debt. Risk taking endeavours, such as capital spending, were, therefore, off limits during this period. Despite having much healthier balance sheets, Corporate Japan continues to sit on a mountain of cash, equivalent to 48% of GDP. When psilocybin enters the brain, the enzyme alkaline breaks down one of its phosphate groups through hydrolysis. It then becomes psilocin, an even stronger hallucinogen (Psilocybin 2003). When psilocin binds to the 5HT2A receptors, it inhibits the uptake of serotonin, thereby decreasing inhibitory serotonin activity. This results in an increase of alertness and arousal. Another theory asserts that the important activity of psilocin takes place at the proximal dendrites of level V pyramidal cells, as this is the area of the brain with the highest concentration of 5HT2A receptors. In support of this theory, this is the only area of the brain where directly applies serotonin excites cells. The receptors do not activate pyramidal cells directly but through action potential. This is demonstrated by the fact that drugs that stop the action potential prevent the 5HT2A induced excitation. While action potential is required for such excitation, stimulation of the 5HT2A receptors does not result in increased action potential. The excitation mechanism can also be blocked by presynaptic inhibitors, showing that activity in the presynaptic 5HT2A receptors that connect with pyramidal cells is also crucial (Connely 2004). This mechanical marvel is able to send water from the bottom of the waterfall back to the top at an astonishing rate of 24,000 gallons per minute. However, gusts of wind cause turbulence on top of the water so the engineers needed to create a system that is not only strong, but also able to variate the power given to these pumps in order to maintain that serene aesthetic look of the water smoothly flowing down the waterfall. This mechanical marvel also boasts filters to take sediment out, UV lights to kill bacteria, and chemical additives to prevent the water from becoming polluted. Every minute detail has been thought of by architect Michael Arad and landscape architect Peter Walker. For example, trees were placed surrounding these waterfalls in order to comfort and calm those who come to this spot to mourn. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I especially enjoyed this book because it colorfully retold the story of the Christians struggles to take back the city from the Muslims that were holding the city and disrespecting the sacred pieces of the Christian religion, such as the Jewish temples. The plot is very exciting and keeps the reader enthralled with every turn of the page because of the vivid details and exiting action the author masterfully tells. Hossana, a fiery red horse, belongs to William deGranville, a young knight that is on the mission to take back Jerusalem from Saladin the Great Sultan. • 53. Examples Of Foil In Antigone Antigone by Sophocles, tells the story of two brothers, of one is given a proper burial and the other is not. Throughout the story two characters contrast. In literature, a foil is a character that has contrasting traits from another character. These distinctions often better develop characters and help the reader notice the specific traits of each character. Antigonewho is outgoing, aggressive, and willing to fight for what she believes in, contrasts with her sister, who is more introverted, soft spoken, and cautious. Ismene is a foil for Antigone. Before committing the crime of burying Polynices, Antigone must ask Ismene for help. Minimizing the risk of her crime, Antigone asks Ismene for help as if it s a simple favor. Will you help me? Will you do something with me? Will you? (507) Ismene, uncomfortable with helping Antigone, must decline. This is difficult for her, so instead of just saying no, she feels she needs to give some sort of explanation. O sister, sister, do you forget how our father perished in shame and misery, his awful sin self proved, blinded by his own self mutilation? And then his mother, his wife, for she was both, destroyed herself in a noose of her own making? And now our brothers, both in a single day... (507) Ismene... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (508) Ismene proved not to take after her sister s hot headed attitude when she replied to Antigone. Go then, if you are determined, to your folly. But remember that those who love you... love you still. (508) Ismene s patience is more honorable in the face of Antigone s angers and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Andy Griffith Show was set in a small town, during the early 1950 s, everyone knows everyone by name. The location of both shows sets the stage for the storylines to come. The characters on The Andy Griffith Show had a small comedic side, but the show was about doing the right thing and good moral values. Andy was constantly thinking of the other person(s) and there was always a good lesson learned every episode. In one episode, Andy and Otis decided to switch Aunt Bea s pickles with store bought pickles, as the ones she made were terrible and they did not want to hurt her feelings or their stomachs. I Love Lucy on the other hand was all about the comedy. Lucy was frequently trying to find a way to get stuff done in an odd matter. In one of the episodes we watched Lucy tried to get the answers to a radio show she signed them up for as she found out Desi was not as smart as he made himself seem. The third contrast between these shows was the filming style that was used. I Love Lucy was produced using a multi camera telefilm method. The show was also filmed in front of a live audience, which gave the sitcom more life. The Andy Griffith Show on the other hand was filmed using a single camera technique. Those factors alone changed the feel of the shows. With The Andy Griffith Show, you could feel him walking though out the town. With I Love Lucy there was the looking in ...
