1. Causes Of The French Revolution Essay
Crafting an essay on the causes of the French Revolution is no small feat, as it involves delving
into a complex historical event with multifaceted origins. The challenge lies not only in
comprehending the intricate web of political, social, and economic factors but also in
synthesizing this information coherently to present a well-structured and insightful analysis.
To begin, one must navigate through a plethora of historical sources, varying perspectives, and
scholarly debates to form a nuanced understanding of the period leading up to the French
Revolution. The task requires the ability to discern key events, ideologies, and influential figures
that played pivotal roles in shaping the revolutionary landscape.
Moreover, the writing process involves weaving together a narrative that seamlessly connects
these causes, establishing a logical flow that allows the reader to grasp the evolution of
discontent and upheaval. This necessitates a keen analytical mind to discern patterns, identify
causal relationships, and draw informed conclusions.
Additionally, the essay demands a delicate balance between providing historical context and
offering insightful interpretations. It requires not only a meticulous review of primary sources
but also a critical engagement with secondary literature to synthesize diverse perspectives into a
coherent argument.
Furthermore, crafting an effective essay on this topic entails addressing counterarguments and
acknowledging the complexity of historical causation. It requires the writer to anticipate potential
challenges to their thesis and construct a persuasive response, showcasing a deep understanding
of the historiographical landscape.
In conclusion, tackling the causes of the French Revolution in an essay is a demanding task that
requires historical acumen, analytical prowess, and the ability to communicate complex ideas
clearly. Despite its challenges, the endeavor offers an opportunity for intellectual growth and a
deeper appreciation of the forces that shaped a pivotal moment in history.

2. Detroit Pistons Argumentative Essay
The Detroit Pistons franchise has an illustrious history, but over recent years there
have been times of utter disappointment. The 2015 16 Pistons team is a young,
talented group of guys who can put up solid fantasy stats for us. Center Andre
Drummond leads this Detroit team into this season as the top fantasy option on the
team. From Drummond to Reggie Jackson, the Pistons should be a team to look at
during your upcoming fantasy basketballdrafts.
So, here we go with my 2015 16 Detroit Pistons fantasy team preview:

Last season, he averaged 10.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1. 6 assists per game.
Coach Van Gundy has said that Morris has been impressive this off season and
really showed that he can beat defenders off the dribble. He will be inserted into the
Pistons starting lineup in 2015 16, so there will be plenty of opportunities for him to
get us all fantasy points.
Morris does leave behind his twin brother Markieff Morris in Phoenix, though,
which has caused much controversy this off season. The Morris brothers are a
force to be reckoned with together, but how will they perform separated? This will
be Marcus real chance to shine for the first time in his NBA career. I think he will
be a buy low guy that could make an impact on your fantasy squads this season!

3. Essay on Helling V. Carey
1. Introduction Rarely any physician intends to harm patients when he or she
provides treatment to them. Patients see physicians and specialists in full faith that
they will get help with a condition. What complicates the patient doctor relationship
is that the outcome of each patient s treatment is different because of individual
health conditions and the course of treatment chosen by the doctor. Problems arise
when a patient is not satisfied with care provided by the doctor or in extreme cases
when a patient dies. Since most of the time it is hard to clearly determine whether the
outcome was solely a result of the course of treatment chosen by the doctor or
whether other factors played a role too, quite often patients take their... Show more

Mrs. Helling filed a lawsuit against her ophthalmologist but during the trial the court
ruled in favor of the defendants arguing that in ophthalmology it was not a standard
of profession to perform routine glaucoma tests in patients under forty years of age.
It is important to note here that the standards of the profession did require
performing pressure tests if the patient s complaints and symptoms indicated that the
patient may be suffering from glaucoma. The defendants argument was that the test
was given thirty days after the patients first complained of visual field problems.
The jury decided in favor of the defendants and the court ruled accordingly. The
Court of Appeals affirmed the lower court s decision at which point the plaintiff
petitioned for a review of the case. On appeal the Supreme Court of Washington
reversed the judgment and ruled for the plaintiff stating that the defendants were
negligent in not having administered the test at a time when the disease could have
been prevented (LexisNexis, Helling v. Carey). The court s decision was largely
based on the argument that the test was simple and inexpensive and should have
been administered considering the severity of the injury that resulted from the failure
to give it. As suggested by Meltzer in the New England Law Review, two
explanations to the decision in Helling are possible. First, that the court intended to
abrogate the privilege of the
4. Reflection Of Political Science
Political science is a broad topic that covers the history, political and geographical
aspect of the world. The course started with a revision on the basics of the
constitution, types of power and the political scene that happens around us. My first
year at the University, one of the compulsory subject that is required for arts taking
students is Political Science 1101. After several years of taking social or political
course, taking this course opened my knowledge towards politics and the political
scene in Canada. It also taught me about how different ways of information taking
could lead to one learning differently from others. For example this class gave us the
opportunity to use our laptops as a source of note taking, this helped me learn in
which whenever a new vocabulary comes up during the class discussions i could
search it up. Through The Road to Patriation and Kim Campbell Through the Looking
Glass i would further emphasize my ideas on what i have learnt throughout the course
semester.
The concepts provided in the documentary The Road To Patriation was about the
disagreement between the federal and provincial government of Canada on what to
do with their constitution and how they would agree on a formula to bring back the
Canadian Constitution from England. After the failure of five prime ministers and
several conferences Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau took up the challenge of bringing
back the constitution in early 1970 alongside with his Justice Minister
5. Professional Bodies Of The Electro Engineer Essay
Professional Bodies in Technology
Professional bodies are organizations that have members as individual professionals.
To be a member, the profession requires that the professionals to seek a license to
practice for them to carry out their jobs. In no lesser way, the professional body
overseeing the Electro Engineering has a number of roles.
Professional bodies within the field of electro technology are tasked with a
generally oversight role of the standards associated with the field. Most important of
all is that the professional bodies focus on advancing electro technology. In
advancing technology, the professional bodies conduct and sponsor exhibitions,
symposia and technical meetings over New Zealand. Professional bodies also offer
graduates a chance to network with others within the same field. These networks are
used by professionals to meet and reflect upon their field of expertise. Alongside this
function, the professional bodies in electro technology accredit the stipulated courses
under the entire field and certify the professional competence of engineers.
According to Robinson (2007), the professional body publishes professional journals
to further the field. As will be observed, the professional body, under the compliance
of the ethical code of conduct, deals with various complaints against professionals and
implements the disciplinary procedures accordingly. Having established this mandate,
it follows that they also issue a Code of Conduct to guide the

7. Toyota s Ethics And Corporate Social Responsibility
The purpose of this report is to examine if the reasoning behind well known car
manufacturer, Toyota s loss of revenue and leading market position is alone as a
result of extensive product recalls following a fatal crash of a Lexus ES 350 on
August 28th 2009. The journal article, Toyota Crisis: Management Issue?
(Yuanyuan Feng 2010) provides an outline of the key factors that triggered the
2009 Toyota crisis, and explores whether the fall in the company s returns by 19%
were caused purely as a result of the recall and safety concerns, or something much
deeper. I am proposing that the issues affecting Toyota s ability to rebuild cannot
alone be fixed by remedying the safety and manufacturing issues, but it must also
work to rebuild the company s reputation and rebuild stakeholder trust. As outlined by
Stewart (2010), Toyota ended up with a full blown crisis on its hands largely because
of the delay and mediocre response from Toyota. These management practices call in
to question Toyota s ethical practices and their commitment to corporate social
responsibility (CSR) principles. 2.Discussion: In a world where loss of reputation can
mean the difference between achieving positive revenue, maintaining market position
or suffering substantial losses, it has become increasingly important to not only
remain at the top of your field in manufacturing and innovation but to also
demonstrate sound ethical practices. In order to be seen as a valued organisation and
most importantly a
8. Twelfth Night Mistaken Identity Essay
Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare should be considered a comedy because it
fulfills all the elements of comedy, specifically puns and mistaken identity. Twelfth
Night is a play about twins who are shipwrecked and separated. One of the twins,
Viola, disguises herself as a man so she can work in Duke Orsino s court. She
quickly befriends him and is sent to woo Countess Olivia, the object of Orsino s
affection. Much to her dismay, Viola falls in lovewith the Duke and Olivia falls in
love with her disguised, masculine self. This hilarious play is a shakespearean comedy
because it is composed of five elements: puns, complex plots, mistaken identity,
happy endings, and insults. Puns are a play on words that create a double meaning.
This can be confusing like complex... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Typical in other shakespearean comedies, Twelfth Nightimmediately uses mistaken
identity when Viola disguises herself as a man. But the most hysterical example of
mistaken identity in Twelfth Night is MalvolioВґs love letter. Malvolio is a pompous
steward of Olivia who the other servants do not like. After being scolded by him,
Maria, along with Sir Toby and another servant play a trick on Malvolio. Since
Malvolio is secretly in love with Olivia, Maria forges a letter declaring her love for
him in Olivia s penmanship. This leads Malvolio to believe Olivia loves him back.
The letter asks Malvolio to show he loves her back by ВЁlet it appear in thy
smilingВЁ (Shakespeare). Now whenever Malvolio is in OliviaВґs presence, he
vows to smile. This is hilarious because Olivia is still mourning her brotherВґs death
whilst he stands around her, smiling like an idiot. Maria pretended to be Olivia and
now Malvolio looks like a fool. Her mistaken identity generates humor in the manner
that Malvolio is humbled from his condescending position. Shakespeare s use of
mistaken identity and puns makes Twelfth Night a
9. The Planned Parenthood V. Casey Case
Today many topics cause controversy and division. As we go about our daily lives,
somewhere someone is debating an issue of importance. Many of these debated
topics are the result of previous political and judicial decisions. The Planned
Parenthood v. Casey case was major in history and today remains the center of many
political debates. This case had an impact on women in the United States and
continues to cause a divide to this very day. Many women felt like the government
was trying to take their right of privacy and choice. This specific case caused anger
and continues to draw many emotions throughout the world. Planned Parenthood v.
Caseyof 1992 was argued because the ruling of banning abortionin the Roe v. Wade

should have the right to their own privacy pertaining to their health.
Abortion was still causing problems ten years after the Roe v. Wade case decision.
The decision caused division and created virtually two groups. As a result of the
decision relating to abortion two types of groups emerged pro life and pro choice.
The pro life group feels women should not have an abortion; whereas pro choice
believes the woman herself should have the right to decide if she wants an abortion
(Brannen et al 788). Pennsylvania law issue in Casey regulated abortion requiring
physicians to provide women with information about fetal development and
alternative to abortions (Brannen et al). The
10. Essay On Regarding Henry
Freud believes that everyone has a large unconscious. He states that there are three
parts of a personality: Id, Ego, and Superego. Id is based on biological urges, the
Ego is the rational decision maker, and the Superego operates on the moral
principle. Henry Turner, the main character in Regarding Henry, goes to the store
one day to buy cigarettes and is shot in the head. The bullet causes his personality to
change and results in him remembering very little about his past life. His new
personality is almost foreign to those around him. Henry s personality after his
accident is his natural state because in his past life his Id made him veer away from
his natural state. The Id is the part of the personality that is instinctual and operates...

After Henry s accident, he tries to make some of his past wrongs right. The court
case that he lied in causes Henry to have a guilty conscience. To fix his mistake he
goes to the woman that filed the court case and gives her the evidence that would
help her win the court case. Henry realized what he had done was wrong, so his
Superego took over and caused him to fix his mistake. Henry has a conversation
with his housekeeper when he returns home after his accident. He asks his
housekeeper what he used to do every day because he could not remember. She
tells Henry that all he ever did was work. This is Superego because he knew that it
was morally right to work all the time to provide for himself and his family.
Consequently, as the movie progresses, Henry s natural state makes itself more
and more present. Henry s Superego is his natural state because his Id was what
made him steer away from his natural state. The only personalities that can be
decided between on which is his real personality are his personalities after his
incident. This is because Henry can no longer remember what he was like in the
past. Henry s Superego takes over more towards the end, and reveals that he can
actually do something for someone besides

dramatic it goes on for to long. Finally he gets his raft unstuck. As he floats down

loud. Once again it last too long. We see to much water, and splashing; there needs
to be more interaction. When he gets to the island and he is lying there he takes to
long to grab his raft. The raft should have floated a way when the tide can in. He
also gets hurt a lot through out the movie. He cuts his hand with wood, and steps his
leg when he is in the water. His wound should have became infected; even though he
was using salt water there is know way he could have kept it that clean.

Although Athletes entertain us all and provide us with something to look forward

In this day and time athletes make millions of dollars by playing games for a living
and most spent that money on expensive things like big houses, fast cars, and much
more. Meanwhile there are people with illnesses that could use the money for
treatment that could save their life. There are people who fight for our country and
risk their lives for us, but instead of helping them with therapy and treatments for
injury we decide

Metamorphosis of the Tragedy in Oedipus Rex, Hamlet, and Desire Under the Elms
Tragedy is considered by many to be the greatest of the genres. Often something
goes wrong and exposes something great. Characters generally have more depth as
evidenced by Hamlet. Tragedy shows up in the great periods of history: Classical
Greece, Renaissance, and the early 20th century. It is a far more complex genre than
comedy or romance. It teaches people to think since the storylines never have a
simple answer or resolution. We see this in Desire Under the Elms. Family
relationships and inheritances are complicated and even when Abbie kills the baby,
Eben decides to join her in her guilty plea when he is clearly not a participant in the ...

The Oedipal complex occurs, Freud believed, with most young boys. The father is
seen as a rival for the mother s affections. Young boys soon realize that this idea has
a vale of silence surrounding it and, as a result, they suppress these instincts.
Playwrights use their plots sometimes for a psychological revealing of these taboo
issues. The Oedipal Complex is at the center of the play Oedipus Rex and was,
obviously, named for the title character. The oracle said that Oedipus would kill his
father and marry his mother. In Hamlet, a closeness can be felt (and seen in the
movie) between Hamlet and Gertrude. Shakespeare seems to have been pointing to
the issue when he wrote the bedroom confrontation scene between Hamlet and his
mother and even had King Hamlet s ghost appear in a nightshirt. In Desire Under
the Elms, Eben and his brothers voice their wish that their father were dead. They
all had their first sexual experience with the same prostitute, but the complex really
becomes clear in the parlor scene between Abbie and Eben and Eben s mothers
ghost. Abbie offers to replace his mother and they make love for the first time in her
room.
The hero in tragedy has evolved through the years. In Classical Greek plays the hero
was nobility and often a king, as with Oedipus. In Renaissance literature, or at least
the sample we read, the hero is still noble but is now the prince rather than the

The Integration of Central High School
Little Rock, Arkansas
The desegregation of public facilities began with the decision of Brown vs Board of
Education in 1954, where the Supreme Court of the United States deemed
segregation unlawful and unconstitutional. The country was told that desegregation
was to take place with all deliberate speed . This angered the white community.
Violent retaliation was the means used to prevent the integration of blacks into
various public facilities. In fact, the Autherine Lucy case demonstrated to the entire
country that violent mobs could halt integration demanded by a federal court order.

Gov. Faubus was up for reelection. No man had yet been elected for a 3rd term as
governor of Arkansas. Apparently someone told the man that if he firmly supported
preventing the desegregation of the school he would get his third term. His plan
worked. The night before the Little Rock Nine were to go to Central High School,
Gov. Faubus appeared on television and stated that he would have the Arkansas
National Guard in front of the school to prevent the black children s entry. He
claimed that it was for the protection of the children . Faubus had no proof yet he
claimed that a violent resistance had been planned and this was for the good of the
blacks. Faubus created a self fulfilling prophecy and sure enough, a violent mob
stood outside the school the following day. Daisy Bates, the president of the
NAACP at the time, had called all of the children to her house the morning they
were to attend Central High School. Only eight were in attendance. Elizabeth
Eckford did not have a phone and missed the call. The girl was unaware of the plans
to drive to Fourteenth Street together. While the eight, along with Daisy Bates tried
to gain access on Fourteenth Street, Elizabeth Eckford faced a mob of some 200
white people shouting and threatening her alone on Sixteenth Street. The National
Guard prevented entry to the school on both sides. Elizabeth escaped the crowd onto
a bus with the assistance of a white lady named Grace Lorch. Faubus met with

15. Ethical Hedonism In The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby characterizes the general lifestyle of the wealthy, rich, and entitled
of a particular time period: the Roaring Twenties. In this age, there was economic
prosperity, which only served to deeply divide and widen the gap between the poor
and rich. Moreover, there were also many ideals and social changes which came into
fruition. In fact, during the Roaring Twenties, when The Great Gatsbytakes place, the
hedonistic lifestyle was especially rampant. Furthermore, with that kind of lifestyle,
money must be involved in order to supply it, and then, even more unforeseen
consequences from both supporting and living that lifestyle.
This hedonistic lifestyle, which is so prominent and driving within the plot, stems
from the origin on the hedonistic lifestyle itself, hedonism. Hedonism categorizes
into two parts: one being ethical and the other psychological. Ethical hedonism is the
black and white interpretation of hedonism through pleasures and displeasures. One
clear figure of ethical hedonism is none other than the novel s main antagonist, Tom
Buchanan, as he goes after everything he wants. Tom sees something he wants and
he goes for it regardless of the fact that he is married or whether the woman he
wants is married as well. Tom sees only pleasures and displeasures and considers
nothing else. Next, psychological hedonism relies on a much deeper level and serves
as both the support and reasoning behind ethical hedonism and the hedonistic
lifestyle. This type of

17. Living In A Tipi Short Story
Living in a Tipi It was 1973. I was twenty one, living in Vancouver, and working as
a nanny. I had lived in Toronto for three years after graduating high school in
Sudbury, Ontario. In my last story, Going West and Coming Home, I described my
previous adventures. Vancouver is a fantastic city, but I think, at heart, I m more
of a country gal. One day, my old friend Dik Budd (from Toronto) called and
invited me to visit him in Merville, on Vancouver Island. So, off I went, on a ferry
over to Naniamo. I could not believe the size of the ocean or Vancouver Island.
After what seemed to me a very long bus ride, we arrived in Courtenay. The bus
depot was on the main street, and I made my way to meet up with Dik and his
friends at the Courtenay... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

wood. We all played baseball and drank homemade beer and wine. Everything
tasted delicious. The gardens produced wonderful vegetables and even small,
sweet casaba melons. We all appreciated the fruits of our labours. It was late
summer, and there were huge blackberries, salmonberries, and huckleberries. Dik
fished for trout and salmon in river. During my visit, Dik s friend Vicky asked me
if I d like to take care of two little girls, Tara and West, while she worked. I could
live with them in their tipi. Well, why not? So, I went back to Vancouver, packed
up, and returned to start my new life. I knew then that I d be on Vancouver Island
forever. Vicky s tipi was quite spacious. There was a wooden floor on which sat two
beds, two dressers, a toy box, and a shelf for books. Sleeping there evoked ancient
memories. We mostly cooked on fires outside. We all joined together around a big
fire at night and made music or told jokes. Tara, who was five, and West, who was
three, were adorable, blonde, blue eyed girls. They were easy to take care of.

18. United for One
In the book, Outcasts United, by St. John, my favorite chapter is actually the first
one. Chapter one is all about Luma, the soccer coach of the refugees. The reason
chapter one is my favorite is because she reminds me a lot of myself. Luma wants
to part from her parents and stay in the United States of America. Her choice came
with the consequences of her parents and sister not communicating with her again
if she chooses to stay in the US. Her grandma would still communicate about the
family until she passes away in a later chapter. Another example of why this is my
favorite is because I can relate to tons of it. My dad no longer talks to me due to
me moving out at too young of an age. I moved to the city to be closer to work and
school but in his eyes I was sinning. This is also why I think I relate most to Luma.
There are other reasons why I think that I relate to Luma. Throughout the whole
book, Luma never wants to give up. For example in chapter nine, Get Lost , when
Luma knows she has to find a new field for her fugeesto play on. According to St
John, on page 93, the YMCA calls and lets Luma know they found a field for her.
She never gave up on her high hopes. Luma always wanted the best for her players.
I am just like Luma, as I never give up on things. My number one struggle I never
give up on is my exercise. Luma has a great strength in her hopes. She honestly
doesn t care about anyone s negative opinions. It is crazy how much I think I relate to
Luma. Just
19. The Factors That Affect The Learning Process Of L2 Words
Studies which support the effect of cognateness:
I shall present three studies in which their findings are incompatible with Milton and
Daller s (2007) findings, which disputed the impact of cognateness on L2 word
learning. The first study was carried out by Willis Ohashi (2012) to investigate the
factors that affect the learning process of L2 words. The participants were 69 Japanese
ESL learners studying in different departments of Tokyo University for females:
Linguistics, Communication, Science, Mathematics and Psychology. They studied
English for a long period, 7 years or more. The subjects were given a multiple choice
test in order to assess the size of their recognition of L2 words, the first seven levels
of VST. They completed the test within 15 25 minutes. The researchers aimed to
examine three factors: frequency, cognateness and word length involving the
measurements of it, phonemes, syllables and letters. Additionally, they aimed to
examine the assumed mutual and intervening relationship between the three factors,
frequency, cognateness and word length, in order to examine the effect of frequency
and word length on cognates and non cognates.
The results of this study revealed that cognateness is strongly correlated with item
facility (IF), 29%, followed by frequency, 23% suggesting that cognateness and
more frequent words are easier to acquire and remember. All the three variables of
word length are less correlated with (IF), between 7 to 8 %, suggesting

In the novel, Sassoon is one of many men and women who are struggling to resolve
an inner conflict between their past and present selves, a conflict revealed by their
war experience. Coming to terms with the present means facing the past for many of

21. How Do You Explain The Steps Involved In The Urinary
System
To explain how diabetes affects the different systems, we need to know how the act
normally. The urinary system normal function is to maintain the acid base balance,
conserve fluids, regulate the amount of salts and water in the blood and eliminate
liquid waste, known as urea. The urinary system works together with the lungs, skin
and intestines to maintain the balance of chemicals and water in the body. The
typical adult urinates approximately twenty seven to sixty eight fluid once a day of
urine. The urinary system includes 2 kidneys (the primary organs in the urinary
system), ureters, a bladder and urethra. The kidneyis where the filtration occurs, it
balances salts and waters. The kidney s is where nephrons also known as filtering
units.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secretion is when ions pass from the capillaries into the renal tubule, this becomes
urine. The urine passes through the ureters, and drain into the bladder. The bladder
is where urine is collected and stored until an urge to release it. When emptying the
bladder sphincter open and urine flows, which travels down the urethra that passes
outside the body. Glucose should not be filtered out of the body by the kidneys;
therefore, if glucose is found in the urine it is a symptom that the cells aren t
utilizing the glucose affectively. The high amount of glucose in the urine provide
an increase production of bacterial and fungal growth. Urinary tract infections and
yeast infections are two of the most common bacterial and fungal infections that
can be cause by type II diabetes. The increase urinary tract infections can also be
due to having a dysfunctional bladder that contract poorly. The poor contraction
allows for urine to remain in static pools for long periods of time. This provides
luxurious ponds for bacteria to grow in. Bladder problems are another problem for
diabetic. An overactive bladder is common this is caused by damaged nerves that
send signals to the bladder at the wrong time, this causes the muscles to contract

22. Castles of the Welsh Princes and Gaelic Irish Lords Essay...
The high medieval Welsh princes and Gaelic Irish lords are comparable in several
ways. Both had to contend with the ever growing presence of the Anglo Normans
and were able to maintain some form of native rule throughout the period ( Gaelic
lordly settlement 209). Furthermore, castles played a significant role in the
proceedings whether built or captured and whether they were of native origins or
Anglo Norman. This can be attributed to their capabilities of withstanding various
scales of warfare and being one of the means of displaying lordly rank ( Settlement
and Society 97). However, the functions, characteristics, and prevalence of castles are
not necessarily uniform across the three groups. Using the historical and... Show more

Accordingly, the building styles of Welsh castles bear marked similarities to their
Anglo Norman counterparts. (Davis 7) This resemblance, a scarcity of historical
records from the Welsh, and the frequency with which the castles would change
ownership make identifying sites built or occupied by the native Welsh problematic
(30). This is compounded by multiple construction phases that would frequently, but
not always, accompany changes in ownership and complicate the archaeological
evidence. For example, Denbigh Castle in Gwynedd was originally a native castle
that housed Llwelyn the Great and his grandson Dafydd ap Gruffudd, but its
physical characteristics are lost to history due to the only remains belonging to a
later castle built by Earl Henry de Lacy in 1282 (Davis 52). The remains of Welsh
earthwork castles are considered to be indistinguishable from Anglo Norman. As a
result, only 8.5% of the remaining castles accounted for in Wales, thirty six of the
four hundred and twenty seven, are attributed to the Welsh. However, this percentage
is not thought to reflect the totality of Welsh castles. (Chateau Gaillard 11)
The start of Welsh castle building correspondingly occurs after 1066. Welshpool in
Powys is the first castle recorded to have been built by the Welsh nobility. This
would have presumably been accomplished after Cadwgan ap Bleddyn took over the
region in
23. Women In Combat Arguments
So many questions linger when it comes to women being able to be in combat. Are
they strong enough? Are women capable of dragging a man s body out of gun fire?
In my opinion, this is a well debated topic in the military world. I believe that
women should not be allowed in combat because most are not physically capable,
emotionally capable, and not experienced enough. I don t think women are nearly as
strong as men. In my high school gym class, men met higher physical education
standards than women. If I was in the military, I would not expect a womanto be able
to carry my body out of gun fire. In the weight room, I ve seen women who are not
capable of carrying a thirty pound dumbbell. I don t believe women the emotional
capacity to be in
24. Comparing Women And Men s Basketball
It is officially basketball season! Do you know what this means? This means crazy
fans going topless, painting their torso one color, incise a letter to spell out their
team s name, and excessive screaming. It is such an interesting atmosphere to be in.
However, there is a difference between men and women basketball. What is the
difference? Women and men s basketball are different in so many ways. Even though
their size, athleticism, speed, and strength are comparable they are less competitive,
are not able to reach the same level of stability while men add an interest to the game.

fourth question asked was, what steps do you take to improve your experience?

A system within a system is what comes to mind after reading this week s reading
from the textbook. Multiagency Coordination Systems (MAC S) is defined as a
system of facilities, equipment, personnel, procedures, and communications
integrated into a common system that is responsible for coordinating and supporting
domestic incident managementactivities (Walsh,2012). It has been interesting
reading the information because it relates so much to the military. Because of that

As documentary by its very nature introduces itself as factual, concerns exist as to
where the boundary between the truth of subject and the fiction produced by its
creator emerges. As anything that has been edited has by definition removed certain
aspects and enhanced others, there must be at best an innocent naturally occurring
bias formed from individual perception, and at worst purposefully manipulated
misinformation. Through researching various sources, I intend to discover the
difference (if any) between these two methods making factually based programmes,
to determine any variables that lie in the grey area between the two extremes, and to

journalistic response to these criticisms, the mechanisms that were put in place to
overcome them that still stand today. Davies, N. 2008. Flat Earth News. London:

27. An Egg Is A Terrible Thing To Waste Essay
This is your Brain on Drugs was a public service announcement created in 1987 by
the Partnership for a Drug Free America foundation. The ad was later re imaged in
1998 under the same title, and much of the same premise. The arguments of both
advertisements were the caustic effects of drugs on your brain. The PFDA formed in
the mid eighties with the simple idea of using ads to advocate the dangers of drugs
use. They believed the persuasive nature of advertisements could denounce a product
as effectively as they could promote them. Their first real success came with the

Nevertheless, one can sense the adverts lack of answers, as if there has been some
omitted scene of earnestly raised hands all begging, Yes, actually I do have a few
questions. Namely, the claim someone s brain would be irreparably damaged
because they snort heroin once. As an example, it only takes a single blow to destroy
the egg, and there s no mention of contiguous snorting to implicate prolonged use.
The imagery used attempts to warrant that if you snort heroin you will destroy your
mind and body. The term for this type of circular reasoning is known as begging the
question. Andrea Lunsford and John Ruszkiewicz showcase the fallacy s central error
as being made on grounds that cannot be accepted as true because those grounds
are in doubt (529). For instance, if simply snorting drugs led to unequivocal brain
damage there would be less addicts, and higher fatality rates from drug use.
Although the dangers of prolonged drug use are well known, this precise analogy
only works if one accepts that the human mind and body are tantamount to the
fragility of an ordinary egg. The image of the fragile egg plays well into the second
fallacy: the often used scare tactic known as the slippery slope. Lundsford and
Ruszkiewicz describe this argument as one that portrays today s tiny misstep as
tomorrow s slide

Peter Holloway is a Systems Engineer with Rolls Royce Limited. He leads a team of
simulation tool developers that code, refine, and integrate existing modeling tools
that are used in the preliminary design phases of their jet engines. The preliminary
design stages involve identifying candidate engine architectures, preparing proposals,
and presenting proposals to customers such as Boeing and Airbus. Peter has been
involved in simulation for about ten years in a number of different companies and at
various levels. His team consists mostly of domain experts that have lent themselves
to programming, with between three and five years of systems design experience.
Rolls Royce has a culture of allowing its engineering staff to develop experimentation
and simulation tools within their domain of expertise. Often however, these domain
experts are not experienced programmers and the tools the engineers develop are used
by only a few people within that domain. Peters team takes these tools, improves the
code, making the tools more robust, and most importantly from a simulation point of
view, making the different tools talk to each other in whole system simulation
software.
Rolls Royce Ltd. uses virtual experimentation and simulation on both their products
and processes because it helps the company meet cost and time objectives when

The executive branch controls the National Guard , which act as the states military

is the legislative branch that is comprised of representatives elected by the people of
the state. This branch controls the state s articles of impeachment, budget, initiates
the tax legislations, and creates legislative laws to fix issues brought forth by the
governor and/or the people. All the states, with the exception of Nebraska have a
legislative branch comprised of a bicameral legislature with two chambers. These two

other state responsibilities such as the state budget. (State Local Government) The

Dementia is a chronic disorder associated with a decline in cognitive functioning
typically characterized by memory impairment, increased communication and
language difficulty and decreased motor activity that interferes with activities of
daily living. Patients with dementia may also experience agitation, hallucinations,
paranoia and difficultly with complex tasks. People with a family history of
dementia and older adults are more prone to dementia. Dementia can be reversible
or progressive depending on the cause. Dementia resulting from infections,
reactions to medications, anoxia and poisoning can be reversed with medical
treatment. Alzheimer s disease is the most common form of progressive dementia
currently affecting 5.3 million Americans. Of the 5.3 million, 5.1 million people
are the elderly population with two thirds of those affected being women. There is
no treatment available to cure dementia but measures can be taken to sustain the
quality of life. Dementia not only affects the patients directly, but also family
members and caregivers as well. Family members deal with patient s memory loss,
changes in personality and also have to take care of the ill patients financially.
According to WHO, the cost of dementia in 2010 worldwide was estimated to be
$604 billion dollars. Apart from the economic pressure, family members also deal
with the physical and emotional pressures that come with dementia. According to
Bekhet, family members care for up to 80% of dementia

Taxi and limousine restrictions are largely accomplished on an international basis
through use of strictly controlled taxi medallion policies that fluctuate by region.
First introduced in New York City in 1937, the taxi medallion license was intended
to govern the volume of taxis entering the New York boroughs while creating
stability in the economics of taxi fares. The original price of a NYC taxi medallion
in 1937 was $1011. Since that time, the taxi medallion value in NYC has continued
to grow rapidly over the years surpassing even the Dow Jones industrial average
and the cost of oil. As recently as December 2011, two medallions auctioned in
New York for over $1 million, and economists predict the value will continue to
rise as taxi demand remains constant12. The taxi medallion policy is far from a
New York phenomenon, and today is just as common of a practice in major US taxi
markets such as Chicago, Washington D.C and San Fracisco, and internationally in
Paris and London. The thrust of the controversy facing Uber is whether the legal
definition of a taxi and limousine includes an operator such as Uber that provides a
reservation arrangement service to customers. Kalanick defends it s business
practices having announced, Uber does not employ cars and drivers...those
companies and their drivers, he says, are required by contract to have all the requisite
licenses, registrations and insurance

Words are a tremendously powerful tool that can spark different emotions and
reactions causing us to question our intentions. With such passionate displays of
raw emotions, Shakespeare is able to captivate his audience in The Winter s Tale.
Each character displays such authentic feelings that gives life to each word on the
page, helping the reader develop the sense of power and control our feelings can
often mimic. The best way to interpret the play is to submerge ourselves into these

In the article, The Pedagogy of Emotional Response: Feeling Shakespeare s The
Winter s Tale by James Lambert, he refers to the Cognitive Emotional Pedagogy
which is a a relatively recent theory that maintains that the brain s cognitive
functions are activated by a person s emotional memory and state (28). As in, the
best way to interpret this play is for the readers to develop a sense of feeling to the
play in order to analyzing and learn from it. I believe Shakespeare is able to do that
by demonstrating the influence words have over the characters thus creating the
emotional reactions inside the play that the audience can relate too. For example,
many people can relate to Hermione where they have tried to convince someone
something isn t true but no matter what they say, it will never change. As a teacher, I
want my students to be submerge in this plays ability to use words to manipulate
emotions and put themselves in the character s positions of authenticity and
vulnerably. Lambert also stated, Cognitive Emotional Pedagogy is an exciting and
fertile approach to teaching, but the reason it has not affected higher levels of
education, including university and graduate level training, is probably because it
asks teachers to integrate their own emotional experience with that of the students,
which can result in the discomfort of confession and self exposure. Too often a
student s preconceived emotional state, like anger or depression, is brought to bear
in class discussions rather than their a priori emotional response to a text within the
class (28). I found this quote interesting because it is true, Shakespeare does bring up
emotional text that most people want to avoid because it makes us uncomfortable.
Too often we avoid talking about the hard to deal with

Fruit Molds

Abstract
In this lab we looked at the mold on three different fruits in three different
environments to asses which fruit would have the most mold and in which
environment the mold would be present the most. For the experiment we used fruits
that were in season so that we could also compare organic and non organic fruit.
Because of this my group chose tomatoes, peaches and apples. We hypothesized that
peaches would rot the most out of each of the fruits and that the peaches would rot
the most in our warmest environment, the incubator. The fruits were then observed
over a period of weeks. At the end of this period of time the peaches had rotted the
most and burst and the peaches in the incubator were the first to go.
Introduction
After learning about different types of mold in lab as well as in lecture, my group and
I were interested in studying mold more. We wanted to know which fruits from our
selected few would rot the most and in which environment would they be most likely
to rot or mold in. We learned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

would rot the most while in the incubator (an environment which is approximately 90
degrees Fahrenheit). About a month later and having observed our fruits in various
increments we found that the peaches and the tomatoes were pretty close together but
they peaches ultimately molded the most and molded the most within the
40. The Influence Of Keri Interviews
I have known Keri for 3 years now as we came to Northwest Christian University
from Blue Mountain Community College to attend school and play volleyball.
Keri is one of my closest friends and volunteered when she overheard me talking
about our mock interviews to our coach. Keri is an Exercise Science major here at
NCU, with plans to become an athletic director or athletic trainer. One of her goals is
to also coach volleyball at the high schoollevel, so the interviewwas based on a
coaching position for her former high school.
Before the interview, I mentioned the nonverbal cues that she should keep in mind.
She started off great as she spoke very fluently. However, when I asked her what her
personal mission statement was I noticed she kept
41. The Dissemination Of The Gospel
There are many opinions and philosophies concerning the dissemination of the
Gospel. Some believe that spreading the Gospel is unnecessary because God
chooses a select few to be saved, and that these elect are unable to resist God s grace.
Others teach that lifestyle evangelism is the correct method of sharing the good news
of JesusChrist. Still others believe that the proper approach of sharing the Gospelis
through door to door soul winning and through preaching and teaching in the church.
One person s approach to the Gospel that has been widely debated is that of Anne
Marbury Hutchinson. Anne was born to a clergyman influenced by the Puritanleaders.
Francis Marbury, Anne s father, disagreed with the church of England and got into
trouble with the Anglican leaders on separate occasions. Her father taught Anne the
Bible, as a result she received a better education than most of the girls in her time.
Anne Marbury married the son of merchant named William Hutchinson, they had
more than a dozen children together. The Hutchinson followed the teachings of the
Puritan church, specifically a reverend named John Cotton. The Reverend John
Cotton was driven out of the Anglican church because of his Puritan ideology.
Reverend Cotton and his wife left England to pursue a ministry in the Massachusetts
Bay Colony. William and Anne Hutchinson followed their spiritual mentor to the
New World a year later. Due to Anne s involvement as a midwife and herbalist, she
became well known
42. The Thousand Languages Of Children
The child has a hundred languages (and a hundred hundred hundred more) Loris
Malaguzzi, (Edwards, 1998)
Language is everywhere, it s in books, in our minds, in our bodies and in our
communities. It s used to express and communicate, to describe and analyse. In the
poem The Hundred Languages of Children. Loris Malaguzzi (Edwards,1998),
describes children as having, as the title dictates, a hundred languages but also a
hundred hundred more. This quotes shows just how vast the concept of language is.
Language in itself is hard to define as there are so many components and concepts
to consider. But to narrow it down, Language can be placed under three major
categories (Gee Hayes, 2011, p. 6); Language is a material object present in in ...

Cremin Myhill (2012) describe being able to write, and read, as being a gateway to
empowerment; this is because writing is a requirement of most academic schools and
tertiary institutions. For this reason it is imperative that teachers engage in language
education and help their students grow as writers.
The language of writing itself is a complex system of rules and processes that each
child learns as they progress through school, using their teachers knowledge to
slowly build on these skills. Languages of other cultures also exhibit these rules
and processes that the language users must abide by, they may not be uniform
across all languages however all rules would be present (Green, 2006). An
excellent example of this is the syntactic structures of languages. Syntax as
described by Emmitt et al (2010, p.128), is a system of rules that describes how
words are related and that sentences are more then just words in a random order.
Instead syntax can be seen as a process that allows certain information to be extracted
by words uttered in context (Marten, 2006, p. X). However it is not just the
combination of words that makes a meaning. The individual words need to be taken
into consideration, this is referred to as the semantics of language. As Emmitt et al
(2010, p.136) suggests, knowing the meaning associated with the individual word it
allows the recipient of the text to have a clearer interpretation of the syntax
combinations. Essentially,
43. School Uniforms Should Reduce Their Financial Burden
Uniforms have a been a huge demand in the United States for the past decades.
Implementing uniforms will minimize distractions among the students, lessen social
trends, improve academic performance and diminish bullying. Most importantly
uniforms lower gang affiliations and parents can reduce their financial burden.
Uniforms are a daily reminder that school is first and foremost a hallowed house of
learning (Warren 2011, pg. 25). Mandating school uniforms enriches students
performance academically and psychologically.
School Institutions are the cultivation to a much greater and more developed
foundation program that make schools teaching a much more valuable education. The

In fact, this helped protect schools from parents and students who opposed to the use
of uniforms in schools. Therefore, made a huge impact in the Arizona community of
uniform policy and school districts.
Certain issues that has been developed throughout the years is that minorities start to
prefer things over others. For instance, students reached a certain point in their lives
where they believe keeping up with the latest fashion trends will maintain them
socially popular. Teens want to fit in with the rest of their classmates and at times can
take the trends too seriously. Believe it or not, clothes are a huge distraction to
students and it disrupts their academic learning. Changing the dress code policy to
uniforms only, changes student s behavior and diminishes the fashion trends among
them. Students should be learning, rather than being distracted by fashion wars
(McVeigh 2005, pg. 357). Students go to school specifically to increase their potential
academic knowledge, therefore having distractions in school, can cause them to get
off track.
Every morning, students have to wake up and decide what to show off to the world.
They must choose an outfit, where it s not out of trend, maintains the fashion
guidelines, and good enough to impress their group of friends. At this point, a teen s
main focus is dress to impress , but not to arrive on time to class. Most likely, missing
an important assignment, announcement, or

Abstract:
The essay examines evolution of popular music, experiences and how the public
understood it between 1918 and 1939. During this period, a national culture dance
was developed in England. Evolution process was marked with transformation of
popular dance forms, affordable and easily dances places and a national wide
dancing practice. Evolvement of a dance culture was instrumental in creation of a
national identity. People understood what it meant to be British. There was an
English style of ballroom dancing, thematic content such as the popular Lambeth
walk. To reduce American influence on English music, British ballroom dancers
tried to create British music free of American influence. Through adaptation of
different dancing styles, they presented what they believed to be the real British
identity. Introduction: In the words of Victor Sylvester, ballroom dancing was an
activity which could not be cut off or separated from the world; it was an activity
which was influenced by surrounding occurrences. Change in occasions such as
fashion, war music and social upheavals all played an important role in influencing
the dancing scene. He observed that external forces influenced performance as well
as evolution of dancing (Sylvester, 1927). Rather than concentrating how dancing was
influenced by occurrences such as war or change of fashion, this essay
45. Lost City of Roanoke
The story of Jamestown was one of America s first documented mysteries. There
are clear facts about this voyage that have been documented. In 1587, John White
did make a temporary establishment on or near Roanoke Island, and that after
leaving for three years did return to the island in 1590. On his return, all traces of
the colonist having lived there for those three years had vanished. No Jamestown
colonist is known to be seen from again. So what happened to them during those
three years? Jamestown, which was led by Governor John White, landed on
Roanoke Island between April and late July 1587 and was a royal grantee of Sir
Walter Raleigh. Jamestown was a small, self supporting community that was suppose
to be protected by the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand how long did the men awaiting Whites return stay on Roanoke
Island? Old Frame houses and a commanding building had been on the island from
an earlier trip in 1585 and were restored by the colonist along with an enclosure and
a main entrance. This construction of the palisade involved considerable labor
and must have taken some time to build. So from this most assume that the English
men lived fairly conformably on the island, surviving the winter without any
serious loss. This can not be established but the solidity of the barrier they build
suggests it. These men expected White anytime after Easter and probably grew
impatient, so there is no assurance that they stayed on the island any time after
June 1588. There are only two pieces of evidence throughout the Outer Banks
between 1587 1590 of the Jamestown colonist. The first was the landing of an
Irish captain, William, most likely in August of 1587. Sir George Carey, a
probable backer of White s expedition, governor of Isle of Wright, had sent the
privateer, Swallowe , out of its way to check on the colonist. It was on its way back
to Ireland when it stopped to look for the Roanoke settlers. The Irish reported finding
a stray mule and stray cattle, but no people. The Irish did try to establish contact with
the colonist, but at what specific point along the Outer Banks is in question. The

46. Polar Bears In Canada
Canada is home to many species of rich heritage, cultural significance and meaning
to the Canadian people. Of the many species, one holds a strong iconic significance
that plays a vital role in the very ecosystem it resides in. The polar bear species are
undoubtedly the apex predator of its food chain and a culturally significant species to
the indigenous people. With both these traits, it makes the polar beara true Canadian
symbol which is further emphasized by its very place on the Canadian two dollar
coin to the strength and endurance represented by this majestic species. However, no
matter how strong and enduring the polar bears are to the arctic, such resilience is

Furthermore, hunting, although not a threat on its own, poses a great deal of risk
to this species because of the threats outlined previously. If it were not for the
disadvantageous situation the species currently face, it would likely not pose a
threat at all. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of the threats faced by
polar bears in Canada such as global warming, bioaccumulation of mercury,
biomagnification of polychlorinated biphenyls and hunting. Furthermore, hunting
quotas placed on northern Indigenous populations will be analyzed as a conservation
method that is helping to reduce further strain on the existing populations of this

47. Life in London in the 1600 s
Have you ever wondered what it was like to live in London in the 1600 s? What
did people learn? What kind of jobs did they do? I know you probably don t ever
think about that, but maybe this presentation will leave you to walk away
wondering: How could they live like that?!! Let s start with where we would be as
children in London. The boys would be at a school getting a public education; the
girls would be at home getting a private education from a tutor. Although a girl s
education would usually include reading and arithmetic, most of her schooling was
learning how to become a proper lady. If you were wealthy though, girl or boy, you
would have a private tutor at your home with a more broad range of topics. There are

You might think that being a servant isn t too bad, but most servants only make
two to five pounds a year. This brings me to the topic of money. All of the coins are
silver or gold. There is no paper money. You cannot have, for example, a five pound
note. The basic denominations of money are pounds, shillings, and pence. Twelve
pence make a shilling, and twenty shillings make a pound. A sovereign is a gold
coin worth one pound. Pounds weren t invented until after 1583. The angel is one
of the most common gold coins. The angel is worth ten shillings or half a pound.
The crown is the most common coin. It is worth five shillings, and can be made of
either gold or silver. Half a crown is worth is worth two shillings and six pence,
sometimes called two and six. The shilling is a silver coin worth twelve pence.
The sixpence is a silver coin worth sixpence. A groat is a silver coin worth four
pence. The penny is a silver coin worth one pence but not called one pence. A coin
worth two pence is called tuppence. A half penny is called a ha penny. The farthing
is a quarter penny fragment so small that it was only in circulation at times when
money was low. Now that we know about how the money works, let s talk about
spending money. Money back then bought a lot more than it does now. Don t
substitute pounds for dollars; try substituting as little as shillings or pennies for
dollars. Twenty pounds for a pair of gloves means
48. Speech On Fusion Cuisine
In this new world we all have the ability to share our knowledge and thoughts very
efficiently and much faster then ever, the amount of people traveling around the
world have increased in great number then ever, as we all know a man need his
food and shelter which is very important, were ever he goes he need a touch of his
home or mother land in the both of these, and as he see different things around
when travel he wants to try all new things especially in food and also take some
good things home as well this attitude among people helps the chef to become
innovative in producing new food recipes with tradition of the region with some
twist of fusion to match the taste and palate of the traveler which gave a gate way to
this new concept called fusion cuisine. What is fusion cuisine?
49. Australia And Japan Expressed Their Interest Of Signing
A...
Australia and Japan expressed their interest in signing a defence technology
cooperation agreement after Japanese Prime Minister Abe and Australian Prime
Minister Tony Abbott s meeting during Abe s visit to Australia in July (Prime
Minister of Australia 2014). This is surprising for the international society as the
Japanese constitution did not allow Japan to export its militarytechnologies until the
Japanese government s recent change to Article 9 (Nye 2014). Even though the
agreement is not signed yet, this news had attracted many attention from around the
globe. There are various kinds of explanations and analyzations on why this two
states would choose to release such information at this time. The argument for this
essay would be that the defence technology cooperation agreement may be one of the
many policies that aims on making Japan a normal country, in response in the rising
power of China and the threats from Korea, so that it can play a better role in
balancing regional security. This essay will try to prove this argument by briefly
introducing why Japan is not a normal country within the international society and
Prime Minister Abe s recent efforts to change this situation, how a defence
technology cooperation agreement between Australia and Japan can play a critical
role on this matter, why Japan and Australia are considering choose to sign such
agreement with each other, and the incentives for Australia to support Japan s goal of
strengthening its military
50. Standardized Testing Is Effective And Effective
Education has been an important part of society for centuries. Over the years it has
slowly evolved into what it is today. The topic of education has been controversial
since the beginning. It seems as though there is always someone that sees a need for
change in how students are being taught and assessed. More specifically, many people
think that standardized testing is not an effective way to assess students. While on
the other hand, many also believe that standardized testing is the most efficient and
effective way to assess people of all ages. The debate over standardized testing has
been shown to effect students and the community in many different ways.
Standardized assessments have had huge impacts with both teachers and students.
Whether one thinks standardized testing is effective and efficient or misdirecting and
unproductive it is a big part of the educational system. While the argument may
present that standardized tests leads to simulated knowledge, others argue that
standardized tests are very effective in assessing students. In America, standardized
testing started to show up during the Industrial Revolution when more and more
children began attending school rather than working in factories or on family farms.
Due to a back to basics movement during the 1970s, there was a big emphasis on
low level functional skills and the proliferation of minimum competency tests
(Marzano 9). However by the time we get to the 1990s, standardized tests began to be

In the Mountain Valley Conference there are 14 schools which includes mine all
competing for 2 goals, the MVC Championship and the State Championship.
Established in 1964 to serve schools in Western Maine, the charter members were
Farmington High School, Gould Academy, Hall Dale High School, Jay High School,
Livermore Falls High School, Mexico High School, and Wilton Academy. The
conference has gone through several changes over the years. The current 14 schools
are Boothbay, Dirigo, Carrabec, Hall Dale, Lisbon, Monmouth, Madison, Mt. Abram,
Mountain Valley, Oak Hill, St. Doms, Telstar, Winthrop and Wiscasset.

We were playing Mountain Valley, a team we lost to earlier in the year by a score
of 1 0. My soccer team did not lose very often. We lost once in the regular season in
all of my high school career. So my team and I wanted revenge. We wanted this
game more than anything. They had 4 foreign exchange players on their team and
we knew how good they were. We knew it wouldn t be easy to win but we knew
that it was possible. We had no right in winning the game. We got dominated in
every aspect of it. They probably outshot us 100 1 or at least thats what it felt like.
We ended up tied at 0 after 80 minutes of regulation and 10 minutes of overtime. We
ended up gong into penalty kicks. We eventually won the game but it wasn t until the
20th kick that we won. It was one of the best feelings.
My senior year we ended up playing Mountain Valley again. We played back at
Thomas college and we won 1 0. The game never felt as close as it actually was. We
controlled most of the game and scored early in the second half to end up winning
our 3rd straight MVC championship in
52. Death And The King s Horseman By Simon Pilking
In the play Death and the King s Horseman Simon Pilking lives in a Yoruban
culture and his personality leaves him unable to live in harmony with the lifestyles
of the Yorubans. The values, beliefs and ideaology of Pilkings differs greatly from
that of the Yoruban people and he considers himself to be completely correct in all of
his beliefs. Pilkings selfishly seeks to make others behave the way he wants them to.
Pilkings shows them no empathy or willingness to understand the ways of the
Yoruban people. Despite explanations from others, Pilkings remains stubborn in his
own way of thinking and continues to meddle in the lives of the Yorubans. His
actions end up causing more calamity than what would have happened if he had not

His refusal to see other peoples point of view plays a major part in why he chooses
to stop Elesin s death. Pilkings believes that his perspective is the only correct
perspective. He refuses to see that others live their lives differently because they
see the world in a different way. Not even for a moment does Pilkings vocally
consider another persons perspective. He sent Olunde to a western school
believing that he would leave behind his Yoruban customs. Pilkings speaks of
Olunde positively, as long as he is doing what Pilkings thinks he should be doing:
He s going to make a first class doctor... And as long as he wants my help he is
welcome to it (22). Pilkings only wishes to support others when they are behaving
the way he thinks they should be behaving. Pilkings does not hesitate to interfere in
the lives of others when they are not behaving the way he thinks they should be.
Without listening to the viewpoints of others, Pilkings did what he believed was
right and stopped Elesin s initial suicide attempt. Olunde was so shameful of his
father that he killed himself, and when Iyaloja blames Pilkings, he has no reply.
Since Pilkings disregarded any explanation for Yoruban customs, it made it very
easy for him to make the judgement that Elesin s suicide to guide the King in the
afterlife was simply foolishness and needed to be stopped. He failed to consider the
importance of the ceremony
53. The Castrati Research Paper
have been well showcased in this difficult piece. These pieces are seen as challenges
for many modern singers as well. It goes to show just how talented and well trained
the performers were.
Although the castrati did not have the spotlight for many centuries, their impact left a
huge mark on opera seria and they way music was written in the 18th century. What
began, as compensation for a female voice in church music, soon became its own
musical phenomenon. Their voices were unlike anything ever heard before, and the
Italian public loved them. They soon became the newest celebrities, and their
popularity gained them more attention from important composers such as Mozart.
Castrati led to more difficult and elegant music that gave power to both
54. Daddy By Sylvia Plath Analysis
After reading the poem Daddy written by Sylvia Plath an American poet, best
known for her dark, and confessional writing. Sylvia Plath lets you understand her
thoughts through her writing, for example poems like Daddy and her novel The
Bell Jar. More and more people learn about her work by reading her poetry or novels
today. For one reason, this poem gives many emotions to the reader. By reading
Daddyyou can sense sadness, hopefulness, a broken child, while others may argue it
is a cry for help. Secondly, SylviaPlath casts herself as a victim by sharing all the
negative feelings she experienced after her father s dead. Lastly, Plath expresses
how she portraits her father as a powerful figure, especially when Plath refer him as
a Nazi, German, Frisco, and vampire. I feel this poem is very powerful because
you can feel the writer s emotions towards her father and including herself worth.
In the poem Daddy it projects the emotions Sylvia Plath was trying to share with
the reader. Poems like these can help other people deal with their negative feelings,
by realizing they are not the only ones dealing with negative thoughts, and
searching for the help they may need in case of a crisis. Some of the dark negative
emotions Sylvia Plath shares in this poem can make anyone have sympathy on her
feelings. Especially, when she writes, Daddy, I have had to kill you. You died before
I had time Marble heavy, a bag full of God, Ghastly statue with one gray toe Big as a
Frisco seal
And a head in the freakish Atlantic Where it pours bean green over blue In the
waters off beautiful Nauset. I used to pray to recover you. Ach, du. (Plath 274).
In stating this, Plath is reminding us that she did not know how to cope with the
loss of her father, while growing up. When Sylvia Plath writes I used to pray to
recover you, it expresses the sadness, the pain, she was feeling after her father s loss.
Plath makes you feel the brief with her writing, thinking of killing her father it s a
metaphor for killing the sadness in her because he is no longer with her. I personally
did not grow up with my father, and do not share none of Sylvia Plath negative
thoughts. The poem gives the reader the sense of her abandonment
