Edward O Wilson Satire
Edward O. Wilson is a contemporary scientist and, though he may deny this claim out of modesty, a
brilliant satirist. In his book The Future of Life (2002), Wilson satirizes the language of two groups on
opposing ends of the environmental spectrum. In this satire, Wilson brilliantly outlines the
unproductive nature of these groups in their discussions. Wilson first presents his audience with a
parody of critics of the environmental movement, in the passage The People First Critic Stereotypes
the Environmentalists. From this point, we can infer that this is a satire; stating that you will be
stereotyping your opposing group is an excellent use of irony. From this point forward, we continue to
read how Wilson heavily exaggerates the way anti environmentalists ... Show more content on

Rather, we should focus on how the satire outlines the unproductive nature of these groups in their
discussions. In this article, we see the anti environmentalists talking about things that almost seem
pleasant when commenting on the environmentalists agendas. For example, one of the criticisms is
that the environmental laws will create more jobs. In a nation where many citizens fear that
immigrants are taking the jobs of Americans, more jobs sounds like a good thing. Additionally, Wilson
s exaggerations are not far off from what people might say in real life. When reading Wilson s
statement about what the environmentalists will do with their power (i.e. locking someone up because
an endangered spider was found on their property), one might be reminded of the 2016 election, and
how ludicrous statements were uttered to combat the opposition. Wilson also parodies the
environmentalists, and how they talk about their enemy. Much of the same satire is used in this article;
however, it is much closer to the truth. While it is unlikely that anti environmentalists seek
unrestrained capitalism and wish to build a shopping mall on every square inch of green in the United
States, it is true that anti environmentalists might be considered laughable if not for their ties to
corporate power

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Heat Pump
The above diagrams illustrates how easy it is to utilise the key components but to reverse the process
i.e. to pump heat out rather than in, thus becoming an air conditioning unit (more correctly called a
cooling unit).
All the main components remain same with just the flow reversed (via the 4 way reversing valves) and
some additional minor components (e.g. check valves and specific expansion valve).
Simultaneous heating and cooling
The Heat Pump can be designed and configured as a multi mode machine.
 To generate only hot water from ambient air
 To simultaneously generate hot water and cooling energy.
 To generate only cooling for comfort
Hotels and hospitals continuously need air conditioning, and therefore on a multimode ... Show more

Water to Water (W W).
Water to Air (W A).
Water Source (iii. iv.) can be further subdivided:
a. Closed Loop: this is the most common form of Ground source system when buried.
b. Open Loop: much less common than closed loop ground source (e.g. ground Aquifer; open lake,
river or sea).
This sort of unit designation would lead to better description and slightly less confusion. It also
highlights that the key difference between water source heat pumps which work on closed and open
loops in the ground is the temperature they work at rather than the medium itself (which is the same
water).
3 Based on Motive / generating power input.
Heat pumps are also sometimes designated by the fuel source used to drive the process which is most
usually electricity ( 95%), less commonly natural gas and much less commonly LPG.
4. Based on Operating Temperature
For heat pumps generating hot water in their condensers (i.e. Air or Water to Water units) another sub
description is the flow temperature capability.
BS EN 14511 2011 high temperature heat pumps they are often referred to Very High Temperature i.e.
65°C.
For heat pumps producing warm air the temperature should not drop below 38°C to prevent risk of

Preludio, By Nisha Coleman
Busking in Paris is the second oldest profession in this beautiful city. There are many mistaken beliefs
about buskers. Mostly, buskers are recognized to be homeless, unemployed, drug addicts, etc. Some
are. But some are also artists like Nisha Coleman. Coleman shaped her story Preludio by her work as a
busker in Paris. She went to Paris, with a slim budget, a language level of French sufficient enough to
help her with small interactions with others, her violin, and an extreme craving for free will. Her status

Coleman shaped her story Preludio by her work as a busker in Paris. She always wanted to live free.
Eat, sleep and work only when she wanted to. A new lifestyle seduced her, as much as a new
adventure and she decided to come to Paris. Her story is shaped by her work as a busker and we can
recognize it just by how she describes her lifestyle in Paris. How she came with nothing, but her

Ethical And Ideological Ideas In Ancient China
We can find many ethical and ideological ideas derive from ancient Asian philosophers and teachers.
Since the ancient times China has been a multi religion country because of the vase size. China is well

Confucianism, even though it is not the religion of the Chinese people it is greatly supported and

Case Study 10.4 Google and Youtube Together Essay
1. In your view and experience on YouTube, will typical YouTube viewers accept advertising while
watching the videos?
As a YouTube user, advertising is a pain and I try to avoid it whenever possible, but it could be much
worse and is generally non intrusive as possible. Some videos provide a flash overlay at the bottom of
the video that displays an advertisement similar to the Google ad words advertisements that appear
when using Google for searching. This flash overlay can even be closed as soon as it appears. The
advertisement does not hinder the viewer from being able to watch their video immediately. The text

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act requires the owners of content to notify websites when their
copyrights are infringed. This works for YouTube because the responsibility lies with the copyright
owners to police the site and notify them when they see their material posted, but this places extra
burden with those copyright holders. But if YouTube has to scan the vast numbers of videos uploaded
every minute on its site, the concept of YouTube would not work because users expect their videos to
be posted immediately.
3. Assume you were a manufacturer of sporting goods, and wanted to use YouTube videos as a
marketing tool to establish your brand. What concerns would you have about using YouTube?
Video advertisements have a response rate of 0.4%, which is still greater than regular web
advertisements such as banner ads, but is not an impressive number if I were a sporting goods
manufacturer looking to use YouTube video ads as a major part of my advertising budget. I can expect
that a large portion of the viewing audience would skip or block out my advertisement. The return on
investment is potentially very small. Another concern I would have would be copyright issues,
especially since 25% of the videos on YouTube contain copyrighted material and make up possibly
more than half of the total views. There could be potential risks of lawsuits from advertisements
appearing on videos which contain

Becoming A Driverless Car
Intro
Three years ago, Nissan came out as the first car manufacturer to announce that their driverless
vehicles would be ready for consumer adoption in 2020. This was good for the future of the car
industry because it promoted awareness for this new emerging technology.
In September of 2015, Chinese bus manufacturer Yutong announced its self driving car which had
successfully handled 26 traffic signals, several lane changes, and at least one passing maneuver during
a 20 mile drive from Zhengzhou and Kaifeng. The company hasn t revealed much, but they say the
bus used laser, radar, and camera systems on both sides of the vehicle. The autopilot system has a

He responded saying, There s times when I might be in a taxi and I might be anxious because I m late
to get to the airport. But most of the time I find myself doing something else. I trust that driver is
going to get me there. That they re doing the right thing. The hope is you get to the point [in a
driverless car] where you re on your phone or reading your book or talking to a loved one instead [of
being anxious]. So the priority moves to your interaction in life from how you re lane changing on the
freeway. I guess if you can make that time in the vehicle more meaningful and useful, maybe you don
t worry as much time about the time you re spending in it.
With driverless cars, time spent in a car will be more meaningful and people will be less likely to drive
in an aggressive manner and lash out at other drivers. Self driving cars might even have a therapeutic
effect on normally aggressive

Animals can Change Our Lives
Changes in our world is normal, sometimes they can make a big change. Pets can change our lives
because of many reasons. New experiences can make a change because of the way they help you.
Sometimes it is a negative or a positive change. Animals are loving, caring, and cute.
In the article Saying Farewell to a Faithful Pal, by John Grogon, it explains how pets can be a loving
friend. The author shares when he had a good dog that he trained. He realized how his pet had affected
him a lot. It had trained him life skills. I know this because from the passage it said A person can learn
a lot a dog, even a loopy one like ours (Grogan, Pg 150, pp 13). This quote explains that dogs can help

The Pros And Cons Of The Kyoto Protocol
Kyoto accord is a set of rules to the United Nations, on climate changes. This protocol is aimed at
fighting global warming; UNFCCC is an international treaty to deal with the greenhouse gases and
reduce their effect on the climates. This protocol was introduced in 1997 in Kyoto Japan and was
enforced fully in 2005. Almost 187 countries signed this protocol to aid in the stopping of drastic
detrimental changes to the environment. The protocol serves many purposes staring from the
awareness about the global warming. This then legally states that members must help fight global
warming. The protocol s objective is to stabilize the reconstruction of greenhouse gases in the
atmosphere to prevent dangerous altering with the climate. Specifically, ... Show more content on

Potential climate risks avoided include more severe weather patterns, abnormal ecosystems, less
biodiversity, less drinkable water, loss of coastal areas from rising sea levels, rises in temperature, and
the increased incidence of infectious diseases such as malaria and yellow fever. On the other hand,
climate change might benefit agriculture and forestry by increasing productivity with longer growing
seasons and more fertilization. Also, the Kyoto Protocol neglects economic as well as scientific
realities; therefore, qualifies as a fundamentally flawed treaty. The Kyoto protocol relies on
governments applying tax and regulatory measures that require companies to send out lower volumes
of greenhouse gases. This action would raise production costs and result in lower earnings for
greenhouse gas generating activities. An emission rights market created by the Kyoto protocol would
reduce earnings further. Due to the purchase of emission rights involving an additional cost, profitable
production will be lower. These rights risk becoming increasingly expensive as time goes on since the
aim of the protocol is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Companies will find these rights
increasingly hard to purchase. With the restraints enforced by the Kyoto conditions, some companies
will be unable to support losses from investments with no payback and costs required by new
spending on greenhouse friendly technologies. In addition to this struggle, are the costs resulting from
the fact that resources redirected to meet the protocol; several hundred billion dollars a year will not
be available for companies to invest, or individuals to spend on other more beneficial projects. Despite
global warming and climate change being a major issue, the economic sacrifices outweigh the benefits
of reduced greenhouse gas emissions due to major countries not taking the Kyoto protocol

of which 25 occured in 2015 (Palumbo, 2015). Public health investigators used the PulseNet system
which is a national laboratory that helps connect foodborne illness cases to detect outbreaks. In the
About PulseNet article, the system compares DNA fingerprints of bacteria from infected people to
find disease that might represent unrecognized outbreaks (Center for Disease and Control Prevention,
2016). Salmonella is responsible for about a million cases of foodborne illnesses in the U.S. This also
include about 19,000 hospitalizations and 380 deaths (Almasy, 2016). The source of the outbreak
came from Paramount Farms which laboratory testing isolated the outbreak strains of Salmonella

Human Suffering And Media Analysis
In the context of the current mediatised society, the media have become the platform where the
encounter with the other increasingly takes place, and in particular, where the public becomes aware
of circumstances of human suffering that are happening far away from their immediate locale
(Thompson, 1995). Even though the media have expanded the field of view of the spectator, the
mediated encounter with the distant sufferer is structured over an abysmal gap (Bauman, 1993)
between the scene of suffering and the safe reality of the spectator sheltered behind the screen. This
paradox has raised a number of moral and ethical considerations. The question at the heart of the
debate is to what extent the new visibility of the other can in fact ... Show more content on

Taking a normative standpoint, Silverstone maintains that the media should function as a public space
that works for the human condition and not against it (2007: 33), a moral space that promotes the
inclusion and care of the other. This cosmopolitan disposition towards the other, especially in the
context of distant suffering, can then become the foundation of transnational solidarity and of the
pursuit of justice overall (Silverstone, 2007). Silverstone advocates for the media to adopt specific
representational principles that foster this sort of cosmopolitan engagement. In particular, he proposes
the notion of proper distance , a theoretical principle that captures the dialectical coexistence between
the common humanity of the other and his irreducible difference (Silverstone, 2007). Proper distance ,
in other words, identifies the degree of proximity that presents the other as other with humanity
(Chouliaraki and Orgad, 2011); who deserves the dignity that is to be accorded to all humans but is
also unique and implicated in specific geopolitical

Comparison of Political History and Development of Nursing...
Comparison of: Political History and Development of Nursing Education between China and Poland
Chinese modern nursing started its evolution in the 1888 when the first formal hospital was opened in
the town of Fuzhou, located in the Fujian province. Chinese medicine has been molded by numerous
western initiatives from the missionary in the 19 century. Particularly, nursing schools and missionary
hospitals, this comprised of 32% of the complete nursing population in the country. The American
influence was profound since it was one of the principal in the region doing major investments.
Individual teachers and nursing professional were the key players in the realization of the early
modernization of nursing in the country. Foundations from America set up medical facilities
facilitating the increase in the spread of nursing in the country. Chinese modern nursing edification
saw an early start compared to the other countries. Politically the government of China faced a period
of nursing halt after the abolishment of the practice. When the government that abolished the practice
collapsed in 1977, the practice came back to normal but left a gap of 30 years deficit in practice and
development of the nursing profession. Therefore, China s nursing practice was significantly
influenced by the political climate particularly the revolution. Ireland on the other hand was the last
developed country to incorporate nursing into the university. The Nightingale model of practice

An Investigation Of The Capacity And Lateral Torsional...
Abstract The study includes an investigation of the stresses, deflections capacity and lateral torsional
buckling behavior of regular I section steel column of jib crane subjected to a axial compressive
eccentric loading. The lateral torsional buckling is the main failure mode that controls the design of
slender column. Different shapes of columns are proposed in this study with different cross section,
web shapes and materials. Finite element analysis and experimental study are carried out on both
types (i.e. Regular and proposed column) to calculate and validate results. An optimization technique
is used to optimize the solution from proposed different designs. The thickness of the web and
thickness of column is constant for all specimens with length 2 to 3 m and tested for 500, 750 and
1000 Kg load lifting capacity. Structural analysis is done to examine the influence of the section
dimension due to axial compressive eccentric loading on column. Using the study it is observed that
not only the web thickness, but also the shape of web, angle of web and sectional cross section of steel
column influences the resistance to lateral torsional buckling and bending.
Keywords Slender, bending, lateral torsional buckling, sectional cross section, web shape.

Proteins which are stuck into plasma membrane help to open the channels in the membrane, (for

The Characteristics of Jazz and Blues in Langston Hughes s The Weary Blues
While I was reading Langston Hughes s poems, I have noticed his outstanding accomplishment in his
blending creation of Negro musical characteristics and poetry. And The Weary Blues is his peaked
piece of a combination of both jazz and blues. The poem reflected American African s living situation
during the Harlem Renaissance, it sufficiently revealed the cultural charm of Negros and Hughes s
fully affirms of his national dignity.
In my paper, I will analyze the methods and techniques Hughes used to highlight the musical elements
in this poem. Jazz and blues are both styles of music which were discovered by Negros. They are
important to Hughes and his culture, and according to the sad and painful tunes in jazz and blues,
Hughes wanted us to listen and understand his culture from this poem. The Weary Blues has a rather
oral character style; the fundamental key is very slow and sentimental, but the poem is full of
musicality, and makes readers felt if they are staying on the scene. I felt not only the special pleasing
quality of Negro s ballad, but also felt depressed from Negro s circumstances during that time. So I
have decided to focus on the analysis of the structural, style of language, along with the jazzy and
blues characteristics in the image of theme. And apparently, I will use structuralism and a touch on
linguistics as my criticisms to argue my statement. In the external form structure of

A Historical Framework For The Contemporary Racial Of Mexico
With the recent discovery of 1.38 million Afro Mexicans based on a population survey conducted in
2015, two central questions have emerged surrounding the presence of Mexicans with African
ancestry in Mexico (Quartz). First, why were nearly 1.4 million Afro Mexicans not recognized in
Mexico s population census by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, which began data
collection of Mexican citizens in 1983 (Colorlines)? Secondly, how has their lack of representation at
the national level impacted them geographically?
Throughout this paper, I will answer the aforementioned questions by establishing a historical
framework for the contemporary racial ideologies in Mexico rooted in Spanish colonial legacies. By
providing this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, I will outline the static nature of Afro Mexican identity through an analysis of the
popular cartoon Memin Penguin. I will explain how this stagnant representation of Mexican blackness
isolates the Costa Chica of Guerrero from other spaces in Mexico. I will conclude by addressing why
this topic is significant to my scholarship as a student and what I hope further scholarly investigation
will uncover.
Before I unpack social racism in Mexico, it is important to distinguish two key points for reading this
paper. First, I use the terms African or Africanness and black or blackness interchangeably to represent
specifically Afro Mexicans in the Costa Chica of Guerrero who identify racially as black. Secondly,
white is used to distinguish White Mexicans while mestizo[s] signifies racially mixed Mexicans with
predominantly Spanish European and Indigenous Amerindian ancestry (Jerry). Mexico s Social
Racism
In order to understand how 1.38 million Afro Mexicans have remained hidden, I must first recount
their origins in Mexico dating back to the Spanish colonial era. During the 16th and 17th century,
100,000 250,000 African slaves were forcibly transported to New Spain to work on the sugarcane
plantations (Githiora). Most arrived at the Veracruz Port in South Central Mexico along the Gulf Coast
in what is now known as the

Great Expectations Dysfunctional Families Essay
Dysfunctional families are a relatively common occurrence, and they often are consumed by their
dysfunction. In Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, there are many dysfunctional families, and
they all are the result of various problems. The family unit of Joe, Mrs. Joe and Pip, a lower class
family faces very different problems from the family that is Ms. Havisham and Estella, a middle or
upper class family. The commonality that dysfunctional families in Great Expectations share is the
profound effect that dysfunction has on other families.
Pip s family, Joe and Mrs. Joe suffer dysfunction as a result of Mrs. Joe s authoritarian brought up by

he experiences spending time with Estella and Ms. Havisham. Quote of changed perception Pip s
disappointment upon becoming Joe s apprentice is influenced by Ms. Havisham because Pip is
expecting to become a gentleman and marry Estella. There is no reason for Pip to this way, except that
the contempt of Ms. Havisham and Estella has warped Pip s perception. Pip s motivation for education
Joe is derived from Pip s shame of Joe s coarseness. Pip s relationship with Joe following Pip s fortune
and sudden move to London becomes strained. When pip comes back quote Pip begins to be
contemptuous to Joe as Pip becomes more and more educated. Pip s relationship with Joe is
complicated and is governed by Pip trying to become a gentleman, which, for most of the novel, a

A Study of the Trans Texas Corridor and How it Affects Texans
Everything is bigger in Texas. That s what a lot of Texans what Americans and people around the
world to know you don t mess with Texas. In the 1950 s, when President Eisenhower created the first
Interstate plan for the country and implemented new roads in almost every single state, it was the
largest engineering feat in the modern world. Now, almost half a century later, Governor Rick Perry is
set to break that record, with the costliest, largest, and most incredible sized proportion Texas Trans

Laredo contains 40% of the United States land ship import traffic. Also, any traveler on the I 35
corridor in Texas runs into hundreds of eighteen wheelers, increasing drivers awareness and causing
disarray for drivers who are trying to see the road in front of them. Perry s answer is to shift the traffic
away from metropolitan areas. If truck drivers can bypass San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas, the time to
their destination would probably save them an entire day in travel. Freight rail services could veer
away from San Antonio s railroad yard, an institution bustling with activity in the wee hours of the
morning. Also, commuter rail can solve environmental problems and help families keep in touch
anywhere in the state without the over burdening costs of driving (Perry). Perry s plan begins with the
setup itself: Six, twelve foot vehicle passenger lanes in which the vehicle can travel at 80 miles per
hour; Four, thirteen foot truck lanes; Two tracks for each of the following railroad establishments high
speed rail, commuter rail, and freight rail. No transportation facility exists like this in the modern
world. All of these integrations to modern society are completely bundled into one, and their concept

Alcohol At Sporting Events And Alcohol
In today s society, sporting events and alcohol are intertwined. Social drinking has always been a part
of the sporting spectrum, whether at a tailgate party, sports bar, professional stadium or arena, and
even at home. Collegiate sporting events are no exception to this popular pastime. However, alcohol is
not available at every NCAA sporting event. According to Mitchell (2015), only 25% of FBS colleges
allow the sale of alcohol at sporting events. Obviously, the main concern for not allowing alcohol at
sporting events is the risk of underage drinking, binge drinking, and rowdiness among students and
fans. Despite this setback, many colleges are allowing the sales of alcohol in order to decrease the
economic burden many colleges are facing. Several colleges such as the University of Maryland and
the University of Memphis have recently started implementing the sales of alcohol for this reason. Not
only is sales the main revenue stream for selling alcohol, but also sponsorship from the alcohol
companies themselves. The idea of extra revenue may sound great for many collegiate athletic
departments, but there are legal risks to take into full consideration. In a hypothetical situation where
Dr. Mark Emmert resigns as president of the NCAA, the first priority that should be implemented by
the new president should be the acceptance of alcohol sales at collegiate sporting events, specifically
championship events. When looking at the NCAA as a whole, the biggest setback that most

Social Dream In Alice In Wonderland
In Alice s dream, a rabbit holding a pocket watch led Alice into a rabbit hole, through all kinds of
adventures with the encouragement of her kind friends and her own desire to realize the value of
women. She helps the White Queen overcome the evil forces. These things and scenes are contrary to
the reality, the talking animals and plants do not exist in reality, the same as the red and white queens
conflicts.
Fantasy is naive, simple, but in terms of his best side, it seems to touch the central nervous system of
the collective human dream, it is a liberation of human s imagination. (Lee,1990:121)
The author presents the serious social problems in the form of fairy tales. Although the novel is a
formally fantasy and legend, it is rooted in social reality, but not from the reality. 11 main characters in
the story have their basic meanings and missions. The Wonderland that the ... Show more content on

The Animal Shaped, By The King Of The Gods
Although the idea of daemons as animal shaped, external companions found their full appeal in the
worlds of His Dark Materials, the concept of daemons itself is far older. The word originates from the
Ancient Greek daimon, which meant god or guiding spirit, aptly describing its role in ancient Greek
mythology (Daimon, dictionary.com). Zeus, the king of the gods, assigned daemons as nameless
protectors, guiding humans throughout their lives. As such, they served as guardian spirits with the
status of lesser deities (Bruner, pages 15 16). In particular, one Ancient Greek philosopher, Socrates,
mentioned daemons by name when he claimed that an inner voice often warned him against unwise
decisions. He called this voice a daimonion, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The following two books, The Subtle Knife in 1997 and The Amber Spyglass in 2000, add more
layers of complexity to both the worlds of the novels and to the idea of daemons itself. Specifically,
The Subtle Knife introduces the character of Will Parry and the object which lends its name to the title
of the novel, as it could open windows to other universes. The Amber Spyglass, finishing the trilogy,
reveals Will and Lyra s eventual destiny as they transition from innocence and youth to maturity and
experience.
The story, while enjoyable for its lively characters and intriguing plot, also raises a deeper question:
To what extent are daemons effective portrayals of human souls in Philip Pullman s His Dark
Materials? Undeniably, daemons form perhaps one of the most appealing aspects of the trilogy. Souls
have been a subject of human thought for much of history, as humans seek to better understand
themselves and how they connect to the wider universe. Thus, the three novels, through daemons,
allow readers to engage in this task and ponder questions of the soul, both within and outside of the
books. The most popular form which this takes is the persistent question of wondering which form one
s own daemon would take, thereby discovering truths about one s own identity. For example,
concluding that one s daemon is a tiger can suggest that the person is courageous and powerful, but
also solitary and

I Am Bigfoot
For my essay I will discuss the theory of formalism, and how it is described in Shlovsky s Art as
Technique. Using my formulated definition, I will then apply my findings to the text I am Bigfoot, in
order to relate the text to the definition. The definition of formalism is to study a text without any
outside influences. In Victor Shklovsky s Art as Technique formalism is suggesting that art makes
objects unfamiliar. Art is a way of experiencing the artfulness of an object: the object is not important.
Understanding the text with the concept of formalism in mind, art alters our perceptions of item that
we once believed were understood. Art alters our perception by presenting it self in a different way, or
in a new context. Formalism comes into play during this topic for in order to ... Show more content on

Now applying this theory to the short story I am Bigfoot, we need to focus less on the absurdity of the
situation, and more on what the text is trying to present to us. I am Bigfoot written by Ron Carson, is a
story where Bigfoot formally addresses himself to the public eye. Ignoring Carson s previous work
Bigfoot Stole My Wife we experience Bigfoot in a different way. The Bigfoot that we knew is a
universal mythical figure that everyone has either heard of, and some have claimed to see. This
Bigfoot is universally depicted as animalistic, as a posed to the poised figure that is presented to us in
the text. In the story we are instead being introduced to the real Bigfoot, and hearing his testimony
against his involvement of the kidnapping of wives. By the end of the story our perception of Bigfoot
has been changed from a wild beast, towards more of an arrogant home wreaker. Referring to the
quote up above one may ignore, or replace the object(Bigfoot), for the object is not important Bigfoot
could be replaced by another mythical legend, or even human the object does not matter. The context
of how the object is

Analysis Of Sam Raimi s Spider Man 2

Analysis Of My Son The Man By Sharon Olds
Accepting Independence
Poetry is like a song without music, it has the ability to awaken your emotions and the ability to tell
stories that can paint beautiful, relatable, imagery in the viewer s mind. Upon reading the poem, My
Son the Man by Sharon Olds, she presents a unique view on her bittersweet experience of watching
her son gravitate towards manhood, Suddenly his shoulders get a lot wider (line1), while realizing he
is astute enough to escape his mother s strong hold, to learn the way out (line 16). As a mother myself,
I began to recognize how I can relate to the speaker s challenges of understanding a child s need to test
limits and break free from dependency. I realized through the speaker s obvious allusions to Houdini
expressing the need to break free, the contrast used to convey the indirect references to Houdini, and
the similes used to express emotion toward reflecting back on a time of innocence, accepting the need
of a maturing child s independence proves the strength of a mother s love.
My Son the Man begins by comparing her maturing son with the allusion to Houdini, Suddenly his
shoulders get a lot wider, /the way Houdini would expand his body/while people were putting him in
chairs (1 3), similar to Houdini preparing for his next challenge involving an almost impossible trick.
Therefore, lines 1 3 is used to express the shock of a child s rapid growth while learning to overcome
the manacles of growing up, similar to the physical manacles

The And Medicinal Purposes Of Ginger
Zingiber officinale, commonly known as Ginger, is a prevalent kitchen spice that has both been used
for dietary and medicinal purposes around the world. A member of the Zingiberacae family, ginger is a

cultivated predominately in India, China, and Jamaica. Although this is a flowering herb, the root or
rhizome of the plant is regularly utilized for cooking or for medicinal purposes. The powder of the
rhizome is often made into a tonic that is consumed by the patient. Ginger has been used traditionally

addition, 6 gingerol is a phenol that is rapidly metabolized in comparison to the rates of other isolated
components of the ginger rhizome. The metabolism rate of the compound has been documented at
about 30 minutes (Benzie Watchel galor, 2011, Ch.7 p.6). The concentration of the phenol is also
found to be higher within the tissue when compared to plasma. The combination of a high metabolism
rate and tissue concentration levels makes 6 gingerol the most bioactive component within the ginger

Ulcerative colitis is an idiopathic, chronic inflammatory condition that is characterized by the
inflammation of the colon and rectum. This is a disorder that affects the innermost layer of the colon,
known as the mucosal layer. Similar to other inflammatory bowel diseases, ulcerative colitis results
from abnormal and increased activation of the intestinal immune system. The increased presence of
the inflammatory mediators within the tissue leads to the disruption of the mucosa and ultimately
ulceration of the tissues( El Abhar, Hammad, and

The Pros And Cons Of The Holocaust
Holocaust prisoners left, together, in cold dark water for hours at a time. Were their punishments for
nothing? Or did their suffering somehow help us today? Between the years of 1939 and 1945, also
known as the Holocaust; the Nazi s took test subjects from groups of people to perform procedures
and experiments on. Unfortunately, all of these so called important tests were exceptionally inhumane.
A few examples of the procedures performed were leaving prisoners in freezing cold water for three
hours straight or only allowing them to drink pure ocean water for two weeks straight. For the most
part, what those German doctors did was unnecessary due to the fact that the outcome was highly
predictable. But over the course of the intense studies, a few valid and useful tidbits of information did
surface. Some of the research findings from Nazi medical testings during the Holocaust continue to
benefit today s modern medical development. One of the many human experiments that the Nazi s
performed on Holocaust prisoners was the cold water experiment. Prisoners were immersed into tanks
of ice water for hours at a time, (Cohen, et. al). The purpose of this at the time was to find out how
long German pilots could survive in the North Sea if their plane was to be shot down (Cohen, et. al).
Unfortunately, many of the prisoners died as result of being left in for an absurd amount of time
(likely close to three hours). However, the information that was recorded from this specific

Fate In How Mordred
In the chapter of Malory s How Mordred was Born and King Arthur Learned of His Parentage , Arthur
decides to go an an adventure and, along the way gets into multiple altercations. During his travels,
Arthur meets Merlin who then decides to accompany him. Some important themes that are seen in this
prose romance are death, power, courage and most importantly fate. The author suggests that fate is
completely predetermined, there is no ways to change the outcome of one s life. The idea that life is
based solely on fate will be seen through battles, tools given to ensure survival, Merlin s powerful
influence, as well as incest. To start with, Arthur is someone who gets into multiple dangerous

After he sleeps with her, he goes on a quest where he encounters the strangest beast he [has] ever seen
or heard of (25). This beast that he sees is the Questing Beast which symbolizes incest. Continually,
since Arthur is seeing this beast represents that the sexual relationship he has with Morgues is wrong.
Moreover, Merlin also knows of the deed that Arthur has done and decides to tell him you have lain by
your sister and on her you have conceived a child that shall destroy you and all the knights of your
realm (26). This causes Arthur to be aware that his fate is to die at the ends of Mordred. This shows
that no matter the choices Arthur will make, his fate will not change. Arthur knows Modred will kill
him, this is the reason Arthur decides to follow Merlin s advice and to have all children born on May
day put in a ship and sent out to sea (33). To send out all of these children is to make sure that the son
he conceived will not be his demise. Mordred survives May day which proves that Arthur s fate is
predetermined no matter the course he chooses. To conclude, Malory, in the chapter How Mordred
was Born and Arthur Learned of His Parentage , shows that Arthur s fate is already made for him; that
none of the choices he makes will change how his life is supposed to end. Throughout this prose
romance, Merlin is there to make sure that Arthur will survive. How Merlin

  • 2. Edward O Wilson Satire Edward O. Wilson is a contemporary scientist and, though he may deny this claim out of modesty, a brilliant satirist. In his book The Future of Life (2002), Wilson satirizes the language of two groups on opposing ends of the environmental spectrum. In this satire, Wilson brilliantly outlines the unproductive nature of these groups in their discussions. Wilson first presents his audience with a parody of critics of the environmental movement, in the passage The People First Critic Stereotypes the Environmentalists. From this point, we can infer that this is a satire; stating that you will be stereotyping your opposing group is an excellent use of irony. From this point forward, we continue to read how Wilson heavily exaggerates the way anti environmentalists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rather, we should focus on how the satire outlines the unproductive nature of these groups in their discussions. In this article, we see the anti environmentalists talking about things that almost seem pleasant when commenting on the environmentalists agendas. For example, one of the criticisms is that the environmental laws will create more jobs. In a nation where many citizens fear that immigrants are taking the jobs of Americans, more jobs sounds like a good thing. Additionally, Wilson s exaggerations are not far off from what people might say in real life. When reading Wilson s statement about what the environmentalists will do with their power (i.e. locking someone up because an endangered spider was found on their property), one might be reminded of the 2016 election, and how ludicrous statements were uttered to combat the opposition. Wilson also parodies the environmentalists, and how they talk about their enemy. Much of the same satire is used in this article; however, it is much closer to the truth. While it is unlikely that anti environmentalists seek unrestrained capitalism and wish to build a shopping mall on every square inch of green in the United States, it is true that anti environmentalists might be considered laughable if not for their ties to corporate power ... Advantages And Disadvantages Of Heat Pump The above diagrams illustrates how easy it is to utilise the key components but to reverse the process i.e. to pump heat out rather than in, thus becoming an air conditioning unit (more correctly called a cooling unit). All the main components remain same with just the flow reversed (via the 4 way reversing valves) and some additional minor components (e.g. check valves and specific expansion valve). Simultaneous heating and cooling The Heat Pump can be designed and configured as a multi mode machine.  To generate only hot water from ambient air  To simultaneously generate hot water and cooling energy.  To generate only cooling for comfort Hotels and hospitals continuously need air conditioning, and therefore on a multimode ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Water to Water (W W). Water to Air (W A). Water Source (iii. iv.) can be further subdivided: a. Closed Loop: this is the most common form of Ground source system when buried. b. Open Loop: much less common than closed loop ground source (e.g. ground Aquifer; open lake, river or sea). This sort of unit designation would lead to better description and slightly less confusion. It also highlights that the key difference between water source heat pumps which work on closed and open loops in the ground is the temperature they work at rather than the medium itself (which is the same water). 3 Based on Motive / generating power input. Heat pumps are also sometimes designated by the fuel source used to drive the process which is most usually electricity ( 95%), less commonly natural gas and much less commonly LPG. 4. As a YouTube user, advertising is a pain and I try to avoid it whenever possible, but it could be much worse and is generally non intrusive as possible. Some videos provide a flash overlay at the bottom of the video that displays an advertisement similar to the Google ad words advertisements that appear when using Google for searching. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act requires the owners of content to notify websites when their copyrights are infringed. This works for YouTube because the responsibility lies with the copyright owners to police the site and notify them when they see their material posted, but this places extra burden with those copyright holders. But if YouTube has to scan the vast numbers of videos uploaded every minute on its site, the concept of YouTube would not work because users expect their videos to be posted immediately. 3. Assume you were a manufacturer of sporting goods, and wanted to use YouTube videos as a marketing tool to establish your brand. What concerns would you have about using YouTube? Video advertisements have a response rate of 0.4%, which is still greater than regular web advertisements such as banner ads, but is not an impressive number if I were a sporting goods manufacturer looking to use YouTube video ads as a major part of my advertising budget. I can expect that a large portion of the viewing audience would skip or block out my advertisement. The return on investment is potentially very small. Another concern I would have would be copyright issues, especially since 25% of the videos on YouTube contain copyrighted material and make up possibly more than half of the total views. There could be potential risks of lawsuits from advertisements appearing on videos which contain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This protocol is aimed at fighting global warming; UNFCCC is an international treaty to deal with the greenhouse gases and reduce their effect on the climates. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Potential climate risks avoided include more severe weather patterns, abnormal ecosystems, less biodiversity, less drinkable water, loss of coastal areas from rising sea levels, rises in temperature, and the increased incidence of infectious diseases such as malaria and yellow fever. On the other hand, climate change might benefit agriculture and forestry by increasing productivity with longer growing seasons and more fertilization. Also, the Kyoto Protocol neglects economic as well as scientific realities; therefore, qualifies as a fundamentally flawed treaty. The Kyoto protocol relies on governments applying tax and regulatory measures that require companies to send out lower volumes of greenhouse gases. This action would raise production costs and result in lower earnings for greenhouse gas generating activities. An emission rights market created by the Kyoto protocol would reduce earnings further. Due to the purchase of emission rights involving an additional cost, profitable production will be lower. These rights risk becoming increasingly expensive as time goes on since the aim of the protocol is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Companies will find these rights increasingly hard to purchase. With the restraints enforced by the Kyoto conditions, some companies will be unable to support losses from investments with no payback and costs required by new spending on greenhouse friendly technologies. In addition to this struggle, are the costs resulting from the fact that resources redirected to meet the protocol; several hundred billion dollars a year will not be available for companies to invest, or individuals to spend on other more beneficial projects. Despite global warming and climate change being a major issue, the economic sacrifices outweigh the benefits of reduced greenhouse gas emissions due to major countries not taking the Kyoto protocol ... Human Suffering And Media Analysis In the context of the current mediatised society, the media have become the platform where the encounter with the other increasingly takes place, and in particular, where the public becomes aware of circumstances of human suffering that are happening far away from their immediate locale (Thompson, 1995). Even though the media have expanded the field of view of the spectator, the mediated encounter with the distant sufferer is structured over an abysmal gap (Bauman, 1993) between the scene of suffering and the safe reality of the spectator sheltered behind the screen. This paradox has raised a number of moral and ethical considerations. The question at the heart of the debate is to what extent the new visibility of the other can in fact ... Abstract The study includes an investigation of the stresses, deflections capacity and lateral torsional buckling behavior of regular I section steel column of jib crane subjected to a axial compressive eccentric loading. The lateral torsional buckling is the main failure mode that controls the design of slender column. Different shapes of columns are proposed in this study with different cross section, web shapes and materials. Finite element analysis and experimental study are carried out on both types (i.e. Regular and proposed column) to calculate and validate results. An optimization technique is used to optimize the solution from proposed different designs. The thickness of the web and thickness of column is constant for all specimens with length 2 to 3 m and tested for 500, 750 and 1000 Kg load lifting capacity. Structural analysis is done to examine the influence of the section dimension due to axial compressive eccentric loading on column. Social drinking has always been a part of the sporting spectrum, whether at a tailgate party, sports bar, professional stadium or arena, and even at home. Collegiate sporting events are no exception to this popular pastime. However, alcohol is not available at every NCAA sporting event. According to Mitchell (2015), only 25% of FBS colleges allow the sale of alcohol at sporting events. Obviously, the main concern for not allowing alcohol at sporting events is the risk of underage drinking, binge drinking, and rowdiness among students and fans. Despite this setback, many colleges are allowing the sales of alcohol in order to decrease the economic burden many colleges are facing. Several colleges such as the University of Maryland and the University of Memphis have recently started implementing the sales of alcohol for this reason. Not only is sales the main revenue stream for selling alcohol, but also sponsorship from the alcohol companies themselves. The idea of extra revenue may sound great for many collegiate athletic departments, but there are legal risks to take into full consideration. The Animal Shaped, By The King Of The Gods Although the idea of daemons as animal shaped, external companions found their full appeal in the worlds of His Dark Materials, the concept of daemons itself is far older. The word originates from the Ancient Greek daimon, which meant god or guiding spirit, aptly describing its role in ancient Greek mythology (Daimon, dictionary.com). Zeus, the king of the gods, assigned daemons as nameless protectors, guiding humans throughout their lives. As such, they served as guardian spirits with the status of lesser deities (Bruner, pages 15 16). The Amber Spyglass, finishing the trilogy, reveals Will and Lyra s eventual destiny as they transition from innocence and youth to maturity and experience. The story, while enjoyable for its lively characters and intriguing plot, also raises a deeper question: To what extent are daemons effective portrayals of human souls in Philip Pullman s His Dark Materials? Undeniably, daemons form perhaps one of the most appealing aspects of the trilogy. Souls have been a subject of human thought for much of history, as humans seek to better understand themselves and how they connect to the wider universe. Thus, the three novels, through daemons, allow readers to engage in this task and ponder questions of the soul, both within and outside of the books. • 32. Analysis Of My Son The Man By Sharon Olds Accepting Independence Poetry is like a song without music, it has the ability to awaken your emotions and the ability to tell stories that can paint beautiful, relatable, imagery in the viewer s mind. Upon reading the poem, My Son the Man by Sharon Olds, she presents a unique view on her bittersweet experience of watching her son gravitate towards manhood, Suddenly his shoulders get a lot wider (line1), while realizing he is astute enough to escape his mother s strong hold, to learn the way out (line 16). As a mother myself, I began to recognize how I can relate to the speaker s challenges of understanding a child s need to test limits and break free from dependency. I realized through the speaker s obvious allusions to Houdini expressing the need to break free, the contrast used to convey the indirect references to Houdini, and the similes used to express emotion toward reflecting back on a time of innocence, accepting the need of a maturing child s independence proves the strength of a mother s love. My Son the Man begins by comparing her maturing son with the allusion to Houdini, Suddenly his shoulders get a lot wider, /the way Houdini would expand his body/while people were putting him in chairs (1 3), similar to Houdini preparing for his next challenge involving an almost impossible trick. Therefore, lines 1 3 is used to express the shock of a child s rapid growth while learning to overcome the manacles of growing up, similar to the physical manacles ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The anti inflammatory factors of 6 gingerol are key in the treatment of Ulcerative Colitis. In addition, 6 gingerol is a phenol that is rapidly metabolized in comparison to the rates of other isolated components of the ginger rhizome. The metabolism rate of the compound has been documented at about 30 minutes (Benzie Watchel galor, 2011, Ch.7 p.6). The concentration of the phenol is also found to be higher within the tissue when compared to plasma. The combination of a high metabolism rate and tissue concentration levels makes 6 gingerol the most bioactive component within the ginger rhizome. The highest concentration of 6 gingerol can be found in the gastrointestinal tract (Benzie Watchel galor, 2011, p. 6). This is important when considering treatment of GI conditions using ginger. Ulcerative colitis is an idiopathic, chronic inflammatory condition that is characterized by the inflammation of the colon and rectum. This is a disorder that affects the innermost layer of the colon, known as the mucosal layer. Similar to other inflammatory bowel diseases, ulcerative colitis results from abnormal and increased activation of the intestinal immune system. The increased presence of the inflammatory mediators within the tissue leads to the disruption of the mucosa and ultimately ulceration of the tissues( El Abhar, Hammad, and ... • 34. The Pros And Cons Of The Holocaust Holocaust prisoners left, together, in cold dark water for hours at a time. Were their punishments for nothing? Or did their suffering somehow help us today? Between the years of 1939 and 1945, also known as the Holocaust; the Nazi s took test subjects from groups of people to perform procedures and experiments on. Unfortunately, all of these so called important tests were exceptionally inhumane. A few examples of the procedures performed were leaving prisoners in freezing cold water for three hours straight or only allowing them to drink pure ocean water for two weeks straight. For the most part, what those German doctors did was unnecessary due to the fact that the outcome was highly predictable. But over the course of the intense studies, a few valid and useful tidbits of information did surface. Some of the research findings from Nazi medical testings during the Holocaust continue to benefit today s modern medical development. One of the many human experiments that the Nazi s performed on Holocaust prisoners was the cold water experiment. Prisoners were immersed into tanks of ice water for hours at a time, (Cohen, et. al). The purpose of this at the time was to find out how long German pilots could survive in the North Sea if their plane was to be shot down (Cohen, et. al). Unfortunately, many of the prisoners died as result of being left in for an absurd amount of time (likely close to three hours). However, the information that was recorded from this specific ... Moreover, Merlin also knows of the deed that Arthur has done and decides to tell him you have lain by your sister and on her you have conceived a child that shall destroy you and all the knights of your realm (26). This causes Arthur to be aware that his fate is to die at the ends of Mordred. This shows that no matter the choices Arthur will make, his fate will not change. Arthur knows Modred will kill him, this is the reason Arthur decides to follow Merlin s advice and to have all children born on May day put in a ship and sent out to sea (33). To send out all of these children is to make sure that the son he conceived will not be his demise. Mordred survives May day which proves that Arthur s fate is predetermined no matter the course he chooses.
