Essay on Unbearable Lightness of being
A touching and sad novel, at once a compelling love story, philosophical text, and dialogue with
Frederich Nietzsche The Unbearable Lightness of Being is all of these and more, perhaps most
importantly a manifesto of embracing nihilism. Milan Kundera opens the novel with a discourse on
Nietzsche s doctrine of the eternal recurrence. He rejects any view of the recurrence as being real or
metaphysical. It is metaphorical he assures us. In a world of objective meaninglessness one must fall
into nihilism unless one acts as if one s acts recur eternally, thus giving our acts quot;weight, quot; the
weight of those choices we make, as though recurring eternally, living forever. Kundera rejects
Nietzsche s optimism and in compelling detail ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tomas follows in a few days, knowing that somehow this is crazy and he is condemning himself to
misery, but he must go, it is his fate and he returns. In a second incident he had published a letter to
the editor in a newspaper which explored the notion of being responsible for acts whether or not one
KNEW the outcome. His model case was Oedipus who had no idea he was violating so many social
and moral rules of his society. Tomas is speaking about those in Czechoslovakia who acted in a similar
manner toward the Russians. Later on this is taken as a socially subversive point of view and he is
asked to retract. For reasons he himself hardly understands he refuses and his refusal causes him to be
banned as a physician and condemned to low level manual labor, first in Prague and later on a
collective farm in a rural area. But even these choice are more his fate than a choice of meaning. The
notion of fate, or what Nietzsche refers to as quot;amor fati quot; (love of fate) is the notion that
nature somehow presents us with situations which we cannot escape and we simply have to bear them.
Tomas must accept and bear his love for Tereza no matter how painful and hopeless. He must accept
his Oedipus letter no matter the consequences. Yet, even this acceptance cannot escape the ultimate
quot;unbearable lightness of being, quot; the meaninglessness of all our acts in a world in which our
acts simply don t live forever. Kundera says in the last pages of

Characteristics Of Shakespearean Tragedy
2. SHAKESPEAREAN TRAGEDY
Shakespearean tragedy is the title given to most tragedies written by the playwright William
Shakespeare. Shakespearean tragedy began, roughly speaking, with marked indebtedness to the tragic
writing of Marlowe and Kyd: poetry, character, and style from Marlowe; motive, plot, and tragic
intensity from Kyd. No evidence suggests Shakespeare was ever particularly aware of or influenced
by, Aristotelian theories of tragedy . (Bevington, 1980) The plays we usually have in mind when we
think about Shakespearean tragedy are the classics like Titus Andronicus (written between 1590 94),
Romeo and Juliet (1594 96), Julius Caesar (1599), Hamlet (1599 1601), Othello (1603 04), King Lear
(1605), Macbeth (1606 07), Antony and Cleopatra (1606 07), and Coriolanus (1608) derived from
Plutarch. Troilus and Cressida, Timon of Athens, and Cymbeline were listed as tragedies in the First
Folio. Characteristics of a Shakespearean tragedy are found in many of his histories, but since they are
from real figures throughout England s history, they were classified as histories in the First Folio.
Exceptions from this are the Roman histories, also from historical figures: Julius Caesar, Antony and
Cleopatra, and Coriolanus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Gredina, forthcoming) I am most interested in the human nature of the characters and I chose these
three tragedies because their protagonists attracted my attention the most. Is Macbeth tempted to sin
by the weird sisters and his wife, or is the choice to murder Duncan ultimately his? To what extent is
man responsible for his tragic fate? (Bevington, 1980) The psychological aspect in his tragedies is
impressive. I think the most impressive thing is that even after more than 400 years we can still study
his characters and their decisions from different

Daubert Standard Research Paper
Across the United States it has been debated, for several years, which standard should be utilized in
the court system: the Frye standard or the Daubert standard. It basically comes down to whether expert
testimony should be presented in court based on wide acceptance or scientific proof. Both articles
explained the Daubert standard as basically a stricter Frye standard, which could also be gathered
from their definitions. It is due to the stricter and more outlined restrictions that the Daubert standard
should be utilized in the Florida court system. The Daubert standard bases its criteria for expert
testimony on proven scientific fact and reliability. Just because an idea is widely accepted, does not
necessarily mean that the idea is true. The best example of this would be that historically the Earth
was believed to be flat. As science, technology, and understanding advanced, this theory was
discovered to not hold true. In a court of a law, a mistake like this could be the difference between
someone s life and death. The Simplified Guide to Forensic Evidence Admissibility and Expert
Witnesses article discussed the polygraph, which even by Frye standard was not admissible in court.
Today, many attorneys would be able to present a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason that the Daubert standard supersedes the Frye standard, is because it is more concrete
which does not open it to interpretation. The Frye standard only basis its criteria on whether it is of
value in understanding the evidence. Whereas the Daubert standard additionally narrows the criteria
down to whether the testimony is based on sufficient data, whether there is reliable principle, and
whether the data was obtained reliably. The Daubert standard can be pinpointed to the concept of

Incomplete and Misleading Information
Leading medical professionals have believed strongly that the public are not receiving enough
information to make a decision on having robotic surgery as opposed to laparoscopic surgery.
Laparoscopic surgery is performed on the abdomen or pelvis. The promotional materials, researchers
report online in the Journal for Healthcare Quality, overestimate the benefits of surgical robots, largely
ignore the risks and are strongly influenced by the product s manufacturer.
The public regards a hospital s official website as an authoritative source of medical information in the
voice of a physician, says Marty Makary, M.D., M.P.H., an associate professor of surgery at the Johns
Hopkins University School of Medicine and the study s leader.

Essay on Crime and the Media
Crime and the Media
The public depends on the news media for its understanding of crime. Reportedly three quarters (76%)
of the public say, they form their opinions about crime from what they see or read in the news
(Dorfman amp; Schiraldi, 2001). After reviewing five hours of reality crime television shows, one is
left with a very dismal look on society and a prejudice towards minorities as they are largely depicted
as the perpetrators of crime. This new genre commonly referred to as reality television appears to be
sweeping the nation by storm. Opinions vary, depending on whom you ask, to what extent reality
plays a role versus the selling of a product. Sensationalism, advertising, ratings hype, profiling and
fear all comprise the mass ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The apprehension and subsequent arrest all dramatized for the cameras. The suspect, heard on camera
being questioned about his past domestic violence charges, his inability to pay child support and
finally he is asked about the observed drug purchase.
Of the nineteen cases reviewed, drug related crimes were more prevalent. In cases involving African
American suspects, the drug of choice was crack cocaine. In suspects that were Caucasian, the drug of
choice was methamphetamines. On the episode aired on May 5, 2005, COPS: Bad Girls, the suspect, a
Caucasian woman was selling drugs and prostituting (Langley, 2005). With the cameras rolling, the
audience is able to overhear, that the suspect is on welfare and has had her children taken away
because of her drug habit. The suspect denies the charges, and the officer insists on making the point
that she is using her welfare money in order to purchase drugs.
In the cases reviewed, the program did not divulge the age. Upon observation, the average estimated
age is twenty five. Age did not appear to have any particular correlation to the type of criminal
activity. What appeared to be more in play was the socioeconomic scale of the suspects. The average
age and circumstances seem to strike a familiar vein with the cases reviewed. On average, the suspects
were unemployed, residing with a family member, a history of violence and drug use. This

The United States Progress and Henry Ford Automobile Industry
What made the United States the great and successful nation that it has grown to be? Well there are
multiple events, innovations, and ideas that were contributing factors to the growth of this country.
Making it out on top of World War One, World War Two, and beating the great depression definitely
made the nation stronger in the long run, or as the famous quote would put it; what doesn t kill you
makes you stronger. But those events aren t what this paper is about, the genius inventions and ideas
from great Americans such as Henry Ford are what really allowed the country to become what it has.
At the start of the 20th century Henry Ford sought after a way to quickly and affordably assemble a
motor vehicle that would be viable and feasible to the working middle class of America. By
constructing and designing the Ford Model T, he was able to change the way American s commute
from 1908 to present day. The production of the affordable Model T changed the face of American
travel evermore.
Tin Lizzie, T Model Ford, Model T Ford are all different nicknames for one of the most important
productions of the 20th century, the Ford Model T. Vehicular transportation is the most common
means of transportation in our society. Automobiles are everywhere today in the United States; not
just the most common, but we have evolved to make automobiles our most reliable means of
transportation. The Ford Model T changed the life of his employees for he paid them a wage to

Implication Of Costume Design Choices Of William...
Implication of Costume Design Choices in Staging Marlowe s Doctor Faustus An effective costume
engages the audience s attention and enhances the production and the actor s performance: (1) it
visually defines and supports the character developed by the actor, and (2) it helps establish the overall
theme and mood of the production as interpreted by the director. An effective costume speaks to the
audience s subconscious store of knowledge and experience, helping them to identify the individual
characters even before they speak and even if they are silent. The Magic Garment (Cunningham 2)
The most first and most important step in designing costumes for a show is to discuss the overall
artistic vision of the show with the director. Interpretation of the text and the resulting goal of the
production will guide the artistic design of the show, from the set and costumes to props and acting.
Eleanor Fuchs essay EF s Visit to a Small Planet: Or Some Questions to Ask of a Play provides an
analytical framework that can be applied to any play to help determine the nature of this interpretation.
When this framework is applied to Marlowe s The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus, it is possible to
consider how design elements, such as costumes, might change the overall audience interpretation of
the play. Design choices provide details that aren t specified in the text alone, which can direct not
only the audience s overall interpretation of the show, but also their

Celiac Disease Essay
The Pathophysiology of Celiac Disease Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune disorder involving both
innate and adaptive immune responses that occurs among genetically predisposed subjects who are
exposed to gluten containing foods (Green et al. 2015). People of all ages, genders, and races can
develop CD (Fasano and Catassi 2012). Individuals with CD may have gastrointestinal symptoms or
sometimes no signs of symptoms. The disease is characterized by severe immune mediated damage to
the small intestine, typically involving chronic diarrhea, weight loss, anemia, and malnutrition
(Gayathri and Rashmi 2014). Celiac disease like phenotypes can be traced back to the Greek physician
Aretaeus in the first and second century AD (Kupfer and Jabri 2012). Since then, improved
development of diagnostic testing provides more accurate data regarding the prevalence of CD,
although many people remain undiagnosed. Epidemiologic studies in the United States and European
countries consistently report a prevalence of 0.5% to 1.0% (Evans and Sanders 2012). CD is also
prevalent in developing countries, like North Africa and the Middle East (Fasano and Catassi 2012). A
significant public health concern remains, as it is estimated that 83% of Americans who have celiac
disease are undiagnosed or misdiagnosed with other conditions (Beyond 2016). The causal factors of
CD must be understood to determine the best diagnostic testing and treatment. The cause of CD is
thought to be due to genetic,

Lady Macbeth Is Essentially the Villain in Macbeth
In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, Lady Macbeth is the true villain of the play as she is evil,
ambitious and eventually insane. Lady Macbeth masterminded the idea to kill King Duncan and
planted the vision into Macbeths mind, she convinced Macbeth to commit such a crime, and her love
for her husband was eventually overruled by her determination and lust for power. Throughout the
play she starts to show her true colours and the destructive force of her ambition, which inevitably
results in nothing but disaster. Lady Macbeth is essentially an evil woman. She condones the death of
innocent people and even wishes she were a man so she could commit murder herself. The idea to
murder King Duncan was thought of by no other than Lady Macbeth, ... Show more content on

Macbeth played an enormous role in the murder of Duncan which was largely self motivated. She

A Look at Microsoft Access
A Look at Microsoft Access
Introduction
Team A of DBM/405 has chosen to look at Microsoft Access. This paper will examine Microsoft
Access and its capabilities and benefits. It should show that Microsoft Access is one of the easiest user
friendly database and cost effective database applications today. This paper will also examine the use
of Access for a business called Parrothead Productions. It is a small one man operation, which is a
remote disc jockey business.
The Capabilities of Microsoft Access
Microsoft Access database gives you true command of your data, enabling you to retrieve it, sort it,
analyze it, summarize it, and report results in moments. It can combine data from various files, so that
you never have to enter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You may be considering migrating (upsizing) your database to SQL Server because:
a) As the number of users increases, the file sharing mechanism of a Microsoft Access database may
result in a slower performance and increased network traffic. The client/server environment of
Microsoft SQL Server is designed for a large number of users and minimizing network traffic.
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 can support databases of up to 2 terabytes in size.
b) SQL Server 2000 is an XML enabled database server that allows you to access the server through a
URL, and to write and retrieve data as XML documents. Integration of Microsoft SQL Server s
security with the security of a Microsoft Windows NT® or Microsoft Windows® 2000 network allows
easier administration of complex network security settings.
c) SQL Server can be backed up and restored dynamically while the database is in use. Users do not
have to close the database while the daily backup is performed. In addition, the process of transaction
logging makes it possible to restore the database up to the point of failure.
The Benefits of Microsoft Access
Microsoft Access has a number of benefits that go beyond the basic capabilities of a database that are
worth discussing. Of course, the primary one that comes to mind is the fact that Access is a Microsoft

Graduation Rate Of The Paso Echs Students
DISCUSSION
The fact that not all El Paso ECHS students decide to enroll in this particular four year institution
could have attributed to the relatively low number of cases (n=315) in the study. It can be assumed
that these students enrolled in other universities and may have successfully completed the ECHS
model. The low number of ECHS graduates (n=125) can be attributed to different factors; such as
financial aid and data dates. For example, if a student does not meet the academic standards in one of
the semesters, the student may not qualify for financial aid the following year. Many ECHS students
rely heavily on financial aid; a lack of financial aid could potentially push these students to take out a
loan, get a job, and take less school hours (putting them behind). It is also important to note that this
study was done using data from the fall 2009 to the spring 2012 semesters. Graduation rates could
have increased significantly from the fall 2012 to spring 2015 semesters.
Analyzation of the data showed that first term GPA is strong indicator of future academic performance
and was supported with a strong significant difference. This supports our conclusion that a student s
first term GPA is crucial. Early intervention is crucial for these students since first term GPA
potentially indicates whether the student is capable of successfully completing the ECHS model.
Positive intervention upon entry to a four year university by counselors and educational staff could

A Research Study On Network Density While Managing...
It is quite impossible for a student to do his/her PhD in isolation. PhD is a research degree and prime
objective of the PhD research is to contribute to building scholarship of a field of study. As in most
cases, PhD students should work with a mentor or a group of mentors building networks is necessary
to facilitate such collaborative ventures in the academia.
In order to build networks in my field, I approach my mentors and fellow researchers whether I can be
a part of their research. Apart from that I always look for the opportunities to attend conferences and
seminars to be introduced with scholars in the field of my interest. Conference and seminars are very
useful means to build networks as many scholars share their contacts and research interests to each
other. I pick those scholars from the conference brochures whose research interest matches with my
own interests. I try to contact them after the conference and show my interest to collaborate with them
in publishing.
It is important to think about network density while managing networks and getting desired results of
those. I have been able to keep full network density while building and managing networks with the
scholars working in academia. Comparing to that, networks with practitioners, community workers
and other professionals are not that much dense. It is quite natural for me to have more density in
academic networks as I work in academia and prefer to build cross relationships with other people in

The Effects Of Harsh Coaching Of Young Athletes
Harsh coaching of young athletes can often steer kids away from sports all together, but if the coaches
get it right, the kids learn important skills for their futures. At a young age, children need discipline in
order to put them in the right direction for their futures. This discipline is found in numerous forms,
and one of the most common forms is through sports. David Brooks said, The best coaches still live
by a code, and they make no apology for demanding that kids live up to it. (Brooks) Though strict
coaching can turn some young children and their parents away from sports, it can give kids a good
role model, teach them discipline, and help them learn to get along with other people. Parents often
have concerns for how coaches treat their young athletes, but most coaches are the best character role
models that a child will have. As David Brooks, author of the article Organized Sports Can Benefit
Children , says Coaches have become the leading moral instructors in America today. (Brooks).
Groups like The Positive Coaching Alliance exist solely to keep coaches doing their job of creating
mature and respectful athletes (Positive). Children need these positive role models in their lives. Even
if a child has great role models as parents, it is even better to have one outside of the family. A coach
can serve as someone that kids should admire, love, and respect even though they are outside of their
family; this will prepare children for their future of dealing with

PCBs were identified in all reef surface sediment samples, reflecting worldwide pollution by these

A Critique of the Behavioural Theories of Learning
A CRITIQUE OF THE BEHAVIOURAL THEORIES OF LEARNING One of the most debated
issues in psychology pertains to the nature and meaning of learning. The systematic study of learning
is relatively new as it was in the late nineteenth century that studies in this realm began in a scientific
manner. Psychologists borrowed techniques from the physical sciences, and conducted experiments to
understand how people and animals learn. Psychologists have tried in the past to define and explain
how learning takes place. Two of the most important early researchers were Ivan Pavlov and Edward

They found as reported by Myers D.G, that half a second works well. However if the food i.e. the
unconditioned stimulus (UCS) appeared before the bell, the conditioned stimulus (CS), then
conditioning is not likely to occur. The bell signals the arrival of food. Pavlov called this the law of
contiguity: The closer the two are in time (with neutral stimulus preceding presentation of UCS), the
stronger the conditioning (generally speaking) Extinction. This concept is similar to common sense
idea of forgetting. Pavlov found that when he sounded the tone repeatedly without presenting food, the
dog s salivation also decreased. After the conditioning phase, the conditioned response (CR) gets
weaker when the conditioned stimulus (CS) or the bell is not accompanied by the UCS (food). It gets
weaker not because the organism no longer remembers the UCS CS connection. It gets weaker
because CR is somehow inhibited. Spontaneous recovery. After extinction trials, the dog will start to
salivate again in response to CS after only one pairing of UCS and CS. Pavlov called it spontaneous
recovery, where the weakened conditioned response reappeared after a rest pause. This according to
Pavlov occurred because extinction was suppressing the conditioned response and not eliminating it.

How Did Henri Becquerel Discovered The Discovery Of The...
Shortly after the discovery of X rays, another form of strong rays were discovered. In 1896, French
scientist Henri Becquerel discovered natural radioactivity. Many scientists of the period were working
with cathode rays, and other scientists were gathering evidence on the theory that the atom could be

Henri Becquerel who discovered this experience while investigating the properties of fluorescent
minerals. Becquerel was researching the principles of fluorescence, wherein certain minerals glow

Analysis Of The Book Wild Swans By Jung Chang Essay
Family loyalty in China has had a tumultuous past filled with fluctuation between remaining loyal to
the state, yet also remaining loyal to blood relatives. In the autobiography that also serves as a
biography, Wild Swans, by Jung Chang, this is seen. The book, which outlines the biographies of the
author s grandmother and mother, as well as her own autobiography, gives an interesting look into the
lives of the Chinese throughout the 20th century. This book is beyond eye opening, and is truly a raw
glimpse into the daily lives of women throughout China, struggling with situations that no human
should ever be thrown into. I loved this book and was truly scared about the world that it opened me
up to. The book does many things well, but also has its faults. The author consistently and clearly
exemplifies the social hierarchy that consumes China, as well as its obsession with cultural stagnancy.
The author also gives intense imagery that thrusts the reader into the scene, and creates a new reality
showcasing the truths of China. Although both of those things take main stage in the book, there are a
few weaknesses in the book. One, asking the question of how she had such clear anecdotes on her
grandmother and mother s life, how did she have such intimate details? The second shortcoming that
Jung Chang had a subjective view of China, partly being that she loves China despite the cards it has
dealt her. Her life was not short of hardships, but her family was typically

nor does man any moral obligation to consider the interests of these animals. In light of this, one must
question Cohen s moral motivations. If it is scientifically proven that caring for animals in a humane
manner is absolutely vital to the survival of our own kind, what motives must a man who denies the
legitimacy of this necessity have for humanity? It is one thing to make the claim that in certain
circumstances, it is vital that humans use animals as a resource, but Cohen goes even further to
blatantly disregard animal s ability to suffer, and he denies all rights of animals due to their lack of

question the morality of killing and using animals as a commodity. Singer considers the ideas
discussed earlier, that this determination does not depend so much on the capabilities of animals, but
rather, their sentience. Singer states that the questions is not can they reason, nor can they talk, but,
can they suffer? This idea captures the vital element that Cohen chooses to overlook. The key
commonality between humans and animals is that we both can experience pain and suffering, and both
would rather avoid it. Cohen not only disregards the environmentally harmful effects of his side of the
argument, but he also considers power to be his prime reasoning for considering animals to be inferior.
He acknowledges animal s sentient ability, but due to their lack of what he deems intelligent capability
and moral choice, he sees this as something simply to be accepted as part of the relationship between
humans and

LEGO s major threat can be seen in the varying nature of the market in the run up until 2004. Where it
has remained the market leader of construction toys, it should be taken into account that LEGO s
traditional toys have been widely replaced by substitutes in the electronic sector. Despite such threats
to the core product offering in this trend in the run up to 2004, the company could turn around this
situation and use this threat as an opportunity to diversify in markets such as games and films as well
as the development of non traditional LEGO products. In the years preceding 2004, LEGO already
had practice with diversification into direct retails with its very own LEGO stores and the launch of
the LEGO Land amusement parks. However this signifies as a substantial opportunity for further
development.

Menil Collection
Visiting the Menil Collection and Contemporary Art Museum in Houston for the first time was eye
opening. I never thought art was such a big thing. I knew art was to be creative but other than that I
never would have thought art would have meaning. From reading, Ways of Looking by Ossian Ward,
art comes in many forms: entertainment, confrontation, event, message, etc. however, having to pick
two art works and compare and contrast them was difficult since there were many to pick from. I
chose La lunette d appproche and Suck My Tits, even though there completely different. They both
share a hidden message that need recognition. The Menil Collection in Houston downtown has a wide
variety of art ranging from ancient art to surrealism. Although there were all types of art, surrealism
struck out to me. While trying to grasp the whole idea and why this was created. I came across this
one painting that froze me in place and drew my mind into amazement. The La lunette d approche or
the Telescope, an oil based painting on canvas created by Rene Magritte in 1963. Its contents grab me
by the arm and drew me closer. Allowing me to escape into the darkness it depicts behind the open
window. It metaphorically represents how everything could be a front in one s eyes while beneath
everything they are things one might not want to share with other. While everything might seem ...

gives off a more lively vibe then La lunette d approche which is more dull and boring. Yet, The

The Movie Inside Out
Both the movies, Inside Out and Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind focus heavily on memory and
the impact that memory has on one s life. The movie Inside Out focuses on how memories and the
emotions attached to them can shape us and a our personalities. The movie depicts in animated form
the basics of memory, short term memory, long term memory and forgetting. It as shows the idea of
mood congruent effect. Mood congruent effect is the idea that you remember memories that were
encoded when you were in that same mood easier than when you are in a different mood. That can
been seen in Inside Out because when Riley is happy she can recall the happy memories of her family
and friends in Minnesota, but when Sadness and Joy get lost in long term memory and Riley is
without them, Riley has a much harder time remembering the good things in her life she is only able
to see the bad. The idea of mood congruent effect can also be seen in the movie Eternal Sunshine of
the Spotless Mind, this is seen when Joel s memories of Clementine are being erased, at first they are
erasing the negative memories and they go from one negative memory to another with ease, when they
finally jump to a happy memory, he jumps from happy memory to happy ... Show more content on

In Inside Out, it is shown that tubes suck the memory from long term memory to short term memory.
The only problem that is shown in the movie with retrieval is memory decay, in the movie this is
shown as a dulling of the memory, and eventually the memory is sent to the memory dump where it is
forgotten. The concepts of encoding failure and retrieval failure are not shown in the movie. Memory
retrieval is depicted in the movie Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind in a very different way. They
show memory retrieval through cues from objects, so in the process of erasing the memory of
someone from one s mind, one must get rid of everything that might remind them of that person they

Smoking Essay
When you quit smoking your heart rate and blood pressure, restore back to normal.
At least within an hour the carbon monoxide leaves your blood and it allows you blood to carry more
oxygen when within a weeks time your circulation improves majorly. Then the work that usually
happens decreases and the cardiac function is higher. Then once you have recovered you can smell
and breath. Then within months you probably will feel so much better and you can see the
improvements in all the functions of your lungs. Then in almost five years many kind of cancers
including lung, larynx, mouth, stomach, cervix, bladder, will all show decrease in the risk. Years after

Since the 1960s, a smoker s risk of developing lung cancer or COPD has actually increased compared
with nonsmokers, even though the number of cigarettes consumed per smoker has decreased. Of the
more than 7,000 chemicals in tobacco smoke, at least 250 are known to be harmful, including
hydrogen cyanide, carbon monoxide, and ammonia.
Just like how drugs an effect on you, smoking has the same effects. It changes your brain.
It would not be too late to stop at the age of thirty, because it lowers the chance of dying. When you
get older the higher chance you will likely die.
Quickly the counter smoking biased people will demand that they are not so much intolerant, in light
of the fact that smokers should be rebuffed.
As a Facebook companion as of late put it, since you don t act like a grown up however like a 13 year
old child that feels that smoking is cool, the administration needs as far as possible to your ruinous and
hostile to social conduct .
The main externality used to hostile to smoking is the wellbeing expenses of smoking that fall on the
citizens as a result of our communist wellbeing framework. The clearest arrangement is present a
smokers premium on medical coverage, yet that would require wellbeing strategy change, which is
constantly troublesome in our advanced welfare vote based system (note, private wellbeing suppliers
as of now have some smokers premium).

Pseudoscience Theory
Research uses science and strict protocol to reach theories to explain hypothesis. Unfortunately some
science incompletely follows protocol or leaves out entire parts of the process. These studies are
considered pseudoscience. Brian Dunning wrote an article in 2007 called How to Spot Pseudoscience.
This article gives 15 telltale signs to spotting a pseudoscience. In the article Carol Dweck Revisits the
Growth Mindset article (Dweck, 2015), the authors posit that a Growth Mindset is the key to growing
one s brain. This theory explains that through increased effort one can achieve feats of formerly
impossible measures. Dunning s article is a useful guide in showing that the Growth Mindset is a
pseudoscience. Some reasons include the idea that if something sounds too good to be true it probably
is, the claim lacks the requirements of a theory and it also fails to pass the Occam Razor test.
There is a saying that if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. This applies to claims
made under the guise of science as well. How great would it be if effort were the magical key to
gaining depths of knowledge formerly thought to be unachievable? If I just try harder, I will be able to
overcome. How can this be tested? Is effort quantifiable? One way effort is measured is by the amount
of time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Growth Mindset does not meet the requirements of a theory. For a theory to be substantiated, it
must be able to be duplicated and supported by not just one but multiple pieces of evidence. A Growth
Mindset claims that a person can improve or grow their brain if they believe they are capable of doing
so, as opposed to those with a fixed mindset , believing their mindset is unchangeable or fixed, not
malleable. Carol Dweck Revisits the Growth Mindset article (Dweck, 2015). This study has yet to be
duplicated. The lack of duplication of this study is one reason it qualifies it as a

Online Casino Portal Crown Contender
Blog 16 Thrills casino emerges as an online casino portal crown contender We have all seen the
advertising campaigns for new casinos, as everyone seems to claim to be funky, fresh, and
revolutionary . Sadly, all these claims are usually pretty hollow in most cases. Freshman online
casinos seldom deliver on what they promise, with many just leaving players feeling deflated.
However, while most new online casinos are underwhelming, Thrills has now looked to buck that
trend. Its name says it all, in the same vain as Guts, Thrills is an online casino that packs in plenty of
adrenaline fuelled action. It seems as time passes more and more players seem to be jumping aboard
this up and coming name, but can Thrills now realistically be considered a contender for the online
casino portal crown?
Thrills make no bones about what they are, as they proudly promote how dedicated they are to
delivering intense gaming action. How they live up to such claim is that they work with NetEnt, one
of the biggest online casino game developers on the planet. What this means is that the software
options at Thrills run smoothly and gives this online casino some serious backbone. No matter
whether you play through smartphone, tablet, or desktop, you are guaranteed a free flowing casino
experience at Thrills due to the backing on NetEnt.
Looking at exactly what games Thrills provide, it really is the cream of the crop when it comes to
titles. As mentioned above, Thrills is an online casino

A Story To Write A Short Story
Sirens could be heard from all over the city. The news was on in every house, reporters saying
Convicted of robbery, Emily Stanford seen running down the streets of New York. The last we saw her
was she was heading down to the bus stations. If anyone has any information on where she is going
please call the police station. Emily ran towards the train station desperate to get there before the
police caught up to her. She walked up to the line and waited impatiently. Every sound made her on
edge, when it was finally her turn she pulled her hood closer to her face. One ticket for Cold Spring
please. Emily said quickly, the lady in the ticket booth gave her her ticket and directed her to the bus
platform. Emily quickly and quietly walked over to the bus and took her seat. A few hours later the
bus stopped and announced its destination, Emily got off the bus and walked quickly down the street
looking for any opportunity to get somewhere to sleep without getting noticed. She walked past a TV
shop and in the window the TV was playing. The same news playing from earlier that day, she wished
every thing would just disappear and leave her alone for at least one day. She eventually found a small
quiet motel, she got a nice room. After she got settled into the room she got the things she needed out
of her backpack. She walked into the bathroom and got her hair damp and applied the hair dye. While
waiting for her hair to dry she did her makeup, she covered up her freckles.

Analysis Of Vasari s The Multivalent Themes And...
The multivalent themes and leitmotifs with which Vasari regales his readers the major and minor
artists, the diligent and the delinquent, the inventive and imitative, the mentors and apprentices, the
fathers and sons, and the mothers, wives and daughters bring the history of Italian Renaissance art to
life in his monumental text. In order for us to understand the purpose of the preface pages, it is
important first to consider the purpose of Vasari s text as a whole. Vasari was himself a notable artist
and architect, however he made it his eventual duty to recognise the importance of artists in the
historical timeline. More significantly, he would endeavour to distinguish between the good, the better
and the best and how their stylistic methods are indicative of an artist s ability. In his prefaces he
relays to his readers the immense body of work he tasked himself with, how artists were gifted or
strived for their art, were innovators or followers, and how their perception as craftsmen or academics
changed, all this in an attempt to educate those who wanted to learn about the story of art. Vasari
divides his Vite into three parts spanning a period from Cimabue s trecento Italo byzantine style to his
present day cinquecento where he places particular emphasis on Michelangelo. In this time we can
observe a shift from a spiritual almost detached emotion to something more aesthetically substantial,
something Vasari surmises as finally reaching the summit of perfection.

this written Programming assignment, Please allow me to explain to you, systematically, how I wrote,
resolved and arrived at the solution of the programming assignment as if you were the one tackling it.
The Process Decomposing for Requirement This is a very important step in any programming job. We
have to get the requirements needed and to be highly considered while constructing the program. The
following are very vital and useful information gathered from the assignment text. Create a script and
name it tryme3.py In that script write a function ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first, we defined the nine_lines function that calls a three_line function in it. That means we need to
define the three_line function. Whereas, the three_nine has another function (the new_line function) in
its locals. You can already imagine that we have to define that also and we get as shown below The
order of the definition is not necessarily important. You can even start by defining the new_line before
the nine_lines function. Inject the clear_screen function In our plan, the clear_screen function must
print 25 blank lines. However, we have functions that will print 9 blank lines, 3 blank lines, and a
blank line. To get the 25 blank lines we have to call the nine_lines function twice, the three_lines
function twice and the new_line function once, within the locals of the clear_screen function. The
script will now look as below The final instruction Because we want to make how work interactive by
letting the program tell us what it is doing and what it has done we added some interactive variable,
the placeholder_1, and placeholder_2. Then we finalize what should be printed out. So our script will
end up looking line as shown below Run the program To run the program, as usual, we press F5 from
our keyboard, and we will be displayed the following view in our

Essay about A Review of the Opening Sequence of Pretty Woman
A Review of the Opening Sequence of Pretty Woman
Pretty Woman is a romantic comedy, which is based on the stories of Cinderella, the Prince and the
Pauper and My fair lady. The film was produced in 1990 and directed by Garry Marshall. It is set in
the Hollywood hills and the rough Hollywood Boulevard. Richard Gere and Julia Roberts play the two
main characters, Vivien Ward and Edward Lewis. Edward is a wealthy man who is respected and
admired by others. Whereas Vivien is a lot poorer. Her only way of earning money is by her job as a
prostitute in Hollywood Boulevard.
In the film the music is very important. At the beginning it is set at a party. It is Edward s party so it is
very posh and classy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are also wearing lots of expensive jewellery like gold necklaces, bracelets, rings etc. Just by
looking at the people at the party you can tell straight away that they have lots of money and can
afford to buy expensive clothes and jewellery for parties.
When you first see Edward he is upstairs in his office away from the party. The walls in his office are
just plain white with not a lot of decoration and he is wearing a plain grey suit which is quite dull and
lifeless this is a signifier that he is a businessman and that he doesn t like to wear bright colourful
clothes and that he prefers to stay wearing neutral colours.
In contrast the first time we see Vivien we can see straight away that she lives a completely different
lifestyle to Edward. The first part we see of her that we see is her underwear when she is just waking
up. We don t see her face until the next shot of her when she is getting out of bed. When she gets up
she puts on some jewellery but it looks very cheap and tacky, this contrasts which the type of
jewellery the people at Edward s party were wearing. Once Vivien is out of bed we see what sort of
clothes she wears at night when she is out on the Hollywood Boulevard. She puts on an all in one
outfit which is a white top which is very short and very tight on her. It is attached to

  • 2. Essay on Unbearable Lightness of being A touching and sad novel, at once a compelling love story, philosophical text, and dialogue with Frederich Nietzsche The Unbearable Lightness of Being is all of these and more, perhaps most importantly a manifesto of embracing nihilism. Milan Kundera opens the novel with a discourse on Nietzsche s doctrine of the eternal recurrence. He rejects any view of the recurrence as being real or metaphysical. It is metaphorical he assures us. In a world of objective meaninglessness one must fall into nihilism unless one acts as if one s acts recur eternally, thus giving our acts quot;weight, quot; the weight of those choices we make, as though recurring eternally, living forever. Kundera rejects Nietzsche s optimism and in compelling detail ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tomas follows in a few days, knowing that somehow this is crazy and he is condemning himself to misery, but he must go, it is his fate and he returns. In a second incident he had published a letter to the editor in a newspaper which explored the notion of being responsible for acts whether or not one KNEW the outcome. His model case was Oedipus who had no idea he was violating so many social and moral rules of his society. Tomas is speaking about those in Czechoslovakia who acted in a similar manner toward the Russians. Later on this is taken as a socially subversive point of view and he is asked to retract. For reasons he himself hardly understands he refuses and his refusal causes him to be banned as a physician and condemned to low level manual labor, first in Prague and later on a collective farm in a rural area. But even these choice are more his fate than a choice of meaning. The notion of fate, or what Nietzsche refers to as quot;amor fati quot; (love of fate) is the notion that nature somehow presents us with situations which we cannot escape and we simply have to bear them. Tomas must accept and bear his love for Tereza no matter how painful and hopeless. He must accept his Oedipus letter no matter the consequences. Yet, even this acceptance cannot escape the ultimate quot;unbearable lightness of being, quot; the meaninglessness of all our acts in a world in which our acts simply don t live forever. Kundera says in the last pages of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Characteristics Of Shakespearean Tragedy 2. SHAKESPEAREAN TRAGEDY Shakespearean tragedy is the title given to most tragedies written by the playwright William Shakespeare. Shakespearean tragedy began, roughly speaking, with marked indebtedness to the tragic writing of Marlowe and Kyd: poetry, character, and style from Marlowe; motive, plot, and tragic intensity from Kyd. No evidence suggests Shakespeare was ever particularly aware of or influenced by, Aristotelian theories of tragedy . (Bevington, 1980) The plays we usually have in mind when we think about Shakespearean tragedy are the classics like Titus Andronicus (written between 1590 94), Romeo and Juliet (1594 96), Julius Caesar (1599), Hamlet (1599 1601), Othello (1603 04), King Lear (1605), Macbeth (1606 07), Antony and Cleopatra (1606 07), and Coriolanus (1608) derived from Plutarch. Troilus and Cressida, Timon of Athens, and Cymbeline were listed as tragedies in the First Folio. Characteristics of a Shakespearean tragedy are found in many of his histories, but since they are from real figures throughout England s history, they were classified as histories in the First Folio. Exceptions from this are the Roman histories, also from historical figures: Julius Caesar, Antony and Cleopatra, and Coriolanus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Gredina, forthcoming) I am most interested in the human nature of the characters and I chose these three tragedies because their protagonists attracted my attention the most. Is Macbeth tempted to sin by the weird sisters and his wife, or is the choice to murder Duncan ultimately his? To what extent is man responsible for his tragic fate? (Bevington, 1980) The psychological aspect in his tragedies is impressive. I think the most impressive thing is that even after more than 400 years we can still study his characters and their decisions from different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Daubert Standard Research Paper Across the United States it has been debated, for several years, which standard should be utilized in the court system: the Frye standard or the Daubert standard. It basically comes down to whether expert testimony should be presented in court based on wide acceptance or scientific proof. Both articles explained the Daubert standard as basically a stricter Frye standard, which could also be gathered from their definitions. It is due to the stricter and more outlined restrictions that the Daubert standard should be utilized in the Florida court system. The Daubert standard bases its criteria for expert testimony on proven scientific fact and reliability. Just because an idea is widely accepted, does not necessarily mean that the idea is true. The best example of this would be that historically the Earth was believed to be flat. As science, technology, and understanding advanced, this theory was discovered to not hold true. In a court of a law, a mistake like this could be the difference between someone s life and death. The Simplified Guide to Forensic Evidence Admissibility and Expert Witnesses article discussed the polygraph, which even by Frye standard was not admissible in court. Today, many attorneys would be able to present a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another reason that the Daubert standard supersedes the Frye standard, is because it is more concrete which does not open it to interpretation. The Frye standard only basis its criteria on whether it is of value in understanding the evidence. Whereas the Daubert standard additionally narrows the criteria down to whether the testimony is based on sufficient data, whether there is reliable principle, and whether the data was obtained reliably. The Daubert standard can be pinpointed to the concept of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Laparoscopic surgery is performed on the abdomen or pelvis. The promotional materials, researchers report online in the Journal for Healthcare Quality, overestimate the benefits of surgical robots, largely ignore the risks and are strongly influenced by the product s manufacturer. • 6. Essay on Crime and the Media Crime and the Media The public depends on the news media for its understanding of crime. Reportedly three quarters (76%) of the public say, they form their opinions about crime from what they see or read in the news (Dorfman amp; Schiraldi, 2001). After reviewing five hours of reality crime television shows, one is left with a very dismal look on society and a prejudice towards minorities as they are largely depicted as the perpetrators of crime. This new genre commonly referred to as reality television appears to be sweeping the nation by storm. Opinions vary, depending on whom you ask, to what extent reality plays a role versus the selling of a product. Sensationalism, advertising, ratings hype, profiling and fear all comprise the mass ... Of the nineteen cases reviewed, drug related crimes were more prevalent. In cases involving African American suspects, the drug of choice was crack cocaine. In suspects that were Caucasian, the drug of choice was methamphetamines. On the episode aired on May 5, 2005, COPS: Bad Girls, the suspect, a Caucasian woman was selling drugs and prostituting (Langley, 2005). With the cameras rolling, the audience is able to overhear, that the suspect is on welfare and has had her children taken away because of her drug habit. The suspect denies the charges, and the officer insists on making the point that she is using her welfare money in order to purchase drugs. In the cases reviewed, the program did not divulge the age. Upon observation, the average estimated age is twenty five. Age did not appear to have any particular correlation to the type of criminal activity. • 7. The United States Progress and Henry Ford Automobile Industry What made the United States the great and successful nation that it has grown to be? Well there are multiple events, innovations, and ideas that were contributing factors to the growth of this country. Making it out on top of World War One, World War Two, and beating the great depression definitely made the nation stronger in the long run, or as the famous quote would put it; what doesn t kill you makes you stronger. But those events aren t what this paper is about, the genius inventions and ideas from great Americans such as Henry Ford are what really allowed the country to become what it has. At the start of the 20th century Henry Ford sought after a way to quickly and affordably assemble a motor vehicle that would be viable and feasible to the working middle class of America. By constructing and designing the Ford Model T, he was able to change the way American s commute from 1908 to present day. The production of the affordable Model T changed the face of American travel evermore. Tin Lizzie, T Model Ford, Model T Ford are all different nicknames for one of the most important productions of the 20th century, the Ford Model T. Vehicular transportation is the most common means of transportation in our society. • 8. Implication Of Costume Design Choices Of William... Implication of Costume Design Choices in Staging Marlowe s Doctor Faustus An effective costume engages the audience s attention and enhances the production and the actor s performance: (1) it visually defines and supports the character developed by the actor, and (2) it helps establish the overall theme and mood of the production as interpreted by the director. An effective costume speaks to the audience s subconscious store of knowledge and experience, helping them to identify the individual characters even before they speak and even if they are silent. The Magic Garment (Cunningham 2) The most first and most important step in designing costumes for a show is to discuss the overall artistic vision of the show with the director. Interpretation of the text and the resulting goal of the production will guide the artistic design of the show, from the set and costumes to props and acting. Eleanor Fuchs essay EF s Visit to a Small Planet: Or Some Questions to Ask of a Play provides an analytical framework that can be applied to any play to help determine the nature of this interpretation. When this framework is applied to Marlowe s The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus, it is possible to consider how design elements, such as costumes, might change the overall audience interpretation of the play. Design choices provide details that aren t specified in the text alone, which can direct not only the audience s overall interpretation of the show, but also their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Celiac Disease Essay The Pathophysiology of Celiac Disease Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune disorder involving both innate and adaptive immune responses that occurs among genetically predisposed subjects who are exposed to gluten containing foods (Green et al. 2015). People of all ages, genders, and races can develop CD (Fasano and Catassi 2012). Individuals with CD may have gastrointestinal symptoms or sometimes no signs of symptoms. The disease is characterized by severe immune mediated damage to the small intestine, typically involving chronic diarrhea, weight loss, anemia, and malnutrition (Gayathri and Rashmi 2014). Celiac disease like phenotypes can be traced back to the Greek physician Aretaeus in the first and second century AD (Kupfer and Jabri 2012). Since then, improved development of diagnostic testing provides more accurate data regarding the prevalence of CD, although many people remain undiagnosed. Epidemiologic studies in the United States and European countries consistently report a prevalence of 0.5% to 1.0% (Evans and Sanders 2012). CD is also prevalent in developing countries, like North Africa and the Middle East (Fasano and Catassi 2012). A significant public health concern remains, as it is estimated that 83% of Americans who have celiac disease are undiagnosed or misdiagnosed with other conditions (Beyond 2016). The causal factors of CD must be understood to determine the best diagnostic testing and treatment. The cause of CD is thought to be due to genetic, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Lady Macbeth Is Essentially the Villain in Macbeth In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, Lady Macbeth is the true villain of the play as she is evil, ambitious and eventually insane. Lady Macbeth masterminded the idea to kill King Duncan and planted the vision into Macbeths mind, she convinced Macbeth to commit such a crime, and her love for her husband was eventually overruled by her determination and lust for power. Throughout the play she starts to show her true colours and the destructive force of her ambition, which inevitably results in nothing but disaster. Lady Macbeth is essentially an evil woman. The client/server environment of Microsoft SQL Server is designed for a large number of users and minimizing network traffic. Microsoft SQL Server 2000 can support databases of up to 2 terabytes in size. b) SQL Server 2000 is an XML enabled database server that allows you to access the server through a URL, and to write and retrieve data as XML documents. Integration of Microsoft SQL Server s security with the security of a Microsoft Windows NT® or Microsoft Windows® 2000 network allows easier administration of complex network security settings. c) SQL Server can be backed up and restored dynamically while the database is in use. Users do not have to close the database while the daily backup is performed. In addition, the process of transaction logging makes it possible to restore the database up to the point of failure. • 12. Graduation Rate Of The Paso Echs Students DISCUSSION The fact that not all El Paso ECHS students decide to enroll in this particular four year institution could have attributed to the relatively low number of cases (n=315) in the study. It can be assumed that these students enrolled in other universities and may have successfully completed the ECHS model. The low number of ECHS graduates (n=125) can be attributed to different factors; such as financial aid and data dates. For example, if a student does not meet the academic standards in one of the semesters, the student may not qualify for financial aid the following year. Many ECHS students rely heavily on financial aid; a lack of financial aid could potentially push these students to take out a loan, get a job, and take less school hours (putting them behind). It is also important to note that this study was done using data from the fall 2009 to the spring 2012 semesters. Graduation rates could have increased significantly from the fall 2012 to spring 2015 semesters. Analyzation of the data showed that first term GPA is strong indicator of future academic performance and was supported with a strong significant difference. This supports our conclusion that a student s first term GPA is crucial. Early intervention is crucial for these students since first term GPA potentially indicates whether the student is capable of successfully completing the ECHS model. Positive intervention upon entry to a four year university by counselors and educational staff could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. A Research Study On Network Density While Managing... It is quite impossible for a student to do his/her PhD in isolation. PhD is a research degree and prime objective of the PhD research is to contribute to building scholarship of a field of study. As in most cases, PhD students should work with a mentor or a group of mentors building networks is necessary to facilitate such collaborative ventures in the academia. In order to build networks in my field, I approach my mentors and fellow researchers whether I can be a part of their research. Apart from that I always look for the opportunities to attend conferences and seminars to be introduced with scholars in the field of my interest. Conference and seminars are very useful means to build networks as many scholars share their contacts and research interests to each other. I pick those scholars from the conference brochures whose research interest matches with my own interests. I try to contact them after the conference and show my interest to collaborate with them in publishing. It is important to think about network density while managing networks and getting desired results of those. I have been able to keep full network density while building and managing networks with the scholars working in academia. Comparing to that, networks with practitioners, community workers and other professionals are not that much dense. It is quite natural for me to have more density in academic networks as I work in academia and prefer to build cross relationships with other people in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The Effects Of Harsh Coaching Of Young Athletes Harsh coaching of young athletes can often steer kids away from sports all together, but if the coaches get it right, the kids learn important skills for their futures. At a young age, children need discipline in order to put them in the right direction for their futures. This discipline is found in numerous forms, and one of the most common forms is through sports. David Brooks said, The best coaches still live by a code, and they make no apology for demanding that kids live up to it. (Brooks) Though strict coaching can turn some young children and their parents away from sports, it can give kids a good role model, teach them discipline, and help them learn to get along with other people. Parents often have concerns for how coaches treat their young athletes, but most coaches are the best character role models that a child will have. As David Brooks, author of the article Organized Sports Can Benefit Children , says Coaches have become the leading moral instructors in America today. (Brooks). Groups like The Positive Coaching Alliance exist solely to keep coaches doing their job of creating mature and respectful athletes (Positive). Children need these positive role models in their lives. Even if a child has great role models as parents, it is even better to have one outside of the family. A coach can serve as someone that kids should admire, love, and respect even though they are outside of their family; this will prepare children for their future of dealing with ... Lark Coral Reef Essay PCBs were identified in all reef surface sediment samples, reflecting worldwide pollution by these compositions in the coral reef sediments of the fragile ecosystem at Kharg and Lark coral reefs, the Persian Gulf. Hereupon, the total concentrations of these detected 20 PCB congeners in the Kharg and Lark coral reefs were also selected to exhibit the PCB contamination grades along with ecological risks in this environment. The mean concentration of the total PCBs (∑20¬PCBs) in the reef surface sediments of the 16 sampling sites on the Kharg Island ranged from 0.25 to 7.45¬ng.g 1 dw, with an overall mean value of 3.12 ng.¬g 1dw,whilst ∑20¬PCBs varied from 0.04 to 2.83 with a total average of 1.04 ng.¬g 1dw at Lark Island on July 2014(Table).in January 2015, ∑20¬PCBs oscillated 0.50 to 9.12(overall average:4.45) and 0.07 to 5.62 at Kharg and Lark coral reefs ,respectively(Table).Significant spatial ... A Critique of the Behavioural Theories of Learning A CRITIQUE OF THE BEHAVIOURAL THEORIES OF LEARNING One of the most debated issues in psychology pertains to the nature and meaning of learning. The systematic study of learning is relatively new as it was in the late nineteenth century that studies in this realm began in a scientific manner. Psychologists borrowed techniques from the physical sciences, and conducted experiments to understand how people and animals learn. Psychologists have tried in the past to define and explain how learning takes place. Two of the most important early researchers were Ivan Pavlov and Edward Thorndike. Among later researchers, B. F. Skinner was important for his studies of the relationship between behaviour and consequences. They are also known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They found as reported by Myers D.G, that half a second works well. However if the food i.e. the unconditioned stimulus (UCS) appeared before the bell, the conditioned stimulus (CS), then conditioning is not likely to occur. The bell signals the arrival of food. Pavlov called this the law of contiguity: The closer the two are in time (with neutral stimulus preceding presentation of UCS), the stronger the conditioning (generally speaking) Extinction. This concept is similar to common sense idea of forgetting. Pavlov found that when he sounded the tone repeatedly without presenting food, the dog s salivation also decreased. After the conditioning phase, the conditioned response (CR) gets weaker when the conditioned stimulus (CS) or the bell is not accompanied by the UCS (food). It gets weaker not because the organism no longer remembers the UCS CS connection. It gets weaker because CR is somehow inhibited. Spontaneous recovery. After extinction trials, the dog will start to salivate again in response to CS after only one pairing of UCS and CS. Pavlov called it spontaneous recovery, where the weakened conditioned response reappeared after a rest pause. This according to Pavlov occurred because extinction was suppressing the conditioned response and not eliminating it. (Myers D.G. p 295) Generalization. Generalization is a ... In 1896, French scientist Henri Becquerel discovered natural radioactivity. Some of the new research showed that certain types of atoms break by themselves. It was Henri Becquerel who discovered this experience while investigating the properties of fluorescent minerals. Analysis Of The Book Wild Swans By Jung Chang Essay Family loyalty in China has had a tumultuous past filled with fluctuation between remaining loyal to the state, yet also remaining loyal to blood relatives. In the autobiography that also serves as a biography, Wild Swans, by Jung Chang, this is seen. The book, which outlines the biographies of the author s grandmother and mother, as well as her own autobiography, gives an interesting look into the lives of the Chinese throughout the 20th century. This book is beyond eye opening, and is truly a raw glimpse into the daily lives of women throughout China, struggling with situations that no human should ever be thrown into. I loved this book and was truly scared about the world that it opened me up to. The book does many things well, but also has its faults. The author consistently and clearly exemplifies the social hierarchy that consumes China, as well as its obsession with cultural stagnancy. The author also gives intense imagery that thrusts the reader into the scene, and creates a new reality showcasing the truths of China. Although both of those things take main stage in the book, there are a few weaknesses in the book. One, asking the question of how she had such clear anecdotes on her grandmother and mother s life, how did she have such intimate details? The second shortcoming that Jung Chang had a subjective view of China, partly being that she loves China despite the cards it has dealt her. If it is scientifically proven that caring for animals in a humane manner is absolutely vital to the survival of our own kind, what motives must a man who denies the legitimacy of this necessity have for humanity? It is one thing to make the claim that in certain circumstances, it is vital that humans use animals as a resource, but Cohen goes even further to blatantly disregard animal s ability to suffer, and he denies all rights of animals due to their lack of capacity for free moral judgment (Pojman and Vaughn 817). Singer notes how all discrimination is unseen at some point until the prejudice is forcefully pointed out; that each person should be willing to exam their most basic, accepted values and criticize our most fundamental values (Pojman and Vaughn 802). Singer considers the ideas discussed earlier, that this determination does not depend so much on the capabilities of animals, but rather, their sentience. Singer states that the questions is not can they reason, nor can they talk, but, can they suffer? This idea captures the vital element that Cohen chooses to overlook. The key commonality between humans and animals is that we both can experience pain and suffering, and both would rather avoid it. Cohen not only disregards the environmentally harmful effects of his side of the argument, but he also considers power to be his prime reasoning for considering animals to be inferior. He acknowledges animal s sentient ability, but due to their lack of what he deems intelligent capability and moral choice, he sees this as something simply to be accepted as part of the relationship between humans and ... • 34. Analysis Of Vasari s The Multivalent Themes And... The multivalent themes and leitmotifs with which Vasari regales his readers the major and minor artists, the diligent and the delinquent, the inventive and imitative, the mentors and apprentices, the fathers and sons, and the mothers, wives and daughters bring the history of Italian Renaissance art to life in his monumental text. In order for us to understand the purpose of the preface pages, it is important first to consider the purpose of Vasari s text as a whole. Vasari was himself a notable artist and architect, however he made it his eventual duty to recognise the importance of artists in the historical timeline. More significantly, he would endeavour to distinguish between the good, the better and the best and how their stylistic methods are indicative of an artist s ability. In his prefaces he relays to his readers the immense body of work he tasked himself with, how artists were gifted or strived for their art, were innovators or followers, and how their perception as craftsmen or academics changed, all this in an attempt to educate those who wanted to learn about the story of art. Vasari divides his Vite into three parts spanning a period from Cimabue s trecento Italo byzantine style to his present day cinquecento where he places particular emphasis on Michelangelo. In this time we can observe a shift from a spiritual almost detached emotion to something more aesthetically substantial, something Vasari surmises as finally reaching the summit of perfection. ...
