Living Together with Diversity by Valuing Our Differences
Diversity involves recognizing the value of differences, combating discrimination, and
promoting inclusiveness. It also understands the powerful effects that culture plays in everyday
life. We as individuals take these assets and use them to the best of our knowledge. Diversity
allows us to learn different aspects of fashion, food, electronics, values and background from
different people from the past time to our future. Thus, diversity and ancient time shows how
much the world has change through time it also shows how history repeats itself. People use
different culture and ancient methods in today s society that gives us the tools that we use in
everyday routines. These statements acknowledge the facts of Paul Graham s essay what you
can t say as correct when he discuss the values of modern society and how taboos and beliefs
effect culture inventions all throughout the globe. All though diversity shares different culture
of believes, it also proves that fashion takes a huge impact on it as well. An article in the New
York Times this old thing is turning heads explains how a simple dress made in the 30s has
become the center of a master piece. The dress has cap sleeves, v neck with a cloth belt and two
small ferry Bakelite buttons on the side. What stranded out the most was its New York designing
that was printed on the dress that had eyes staring from every angle. Whoever wore it was an

Regulatory Requirements Of The Pharmaceutical Industry Us,...
In order for biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies to market their biologics and drugs,
companies must receive approval from their respective regulatory authority. The three global
leaders in the pharmaceutical industry US, EU, and Japan all have their own regulatory
authorities. Each have their advantages and disadvantages and as a regulatory representative.
Though there is a push to harmonize regulatory requirements at a global scale for the past 20
years development and approval of global guidelines has had drawbacks in approving drugs at a
globally. The high regulatory uncertainty is considered as a major barrier for efficient
development of safe and effective biological therapies, hence deterring entry for large
multinational pharmaceutical companies to develop innovative biological products at a global
level.1 For a biotechnology company it can be difficult to chose which market to seek the
regulatory approval for first and many questions come to mind for which country will be
beneficial for market approval. Personally as a regulatory affairs professional I would seek
approval in the US due to the comprehensive history and development of the food and drug
administration and the acceptance of the regulatory pathway at a global scale. Also the EU and US
regulatory systems are more similar than different, and due to recent steps in harmonization from
both regulatory regimes in scientific testing standards and clinical trials, it can make it more
efficient to

Superhero Influence On American Culture
Comic book industries have been the main establishers for the new American youth culture. This
has also been well used to settle a cultural representation for communism, wartime propaganda, and,
to those adults who thought their child acting rude was caused by comics, a sign of the decline of
comic books, thus making the industry fall into consensus and conformity. Ever since the first
comic book was created in the 1930 s, Americans have been greatly influenced because of its vast
enjoyment. Whether from romance to war or justice to crime, comic books have forever changed
popular culture and can definitely portray how, at different times in U.S. history, people understood
and interpreted events around the globe. This becomes apparent in the film Comic Book

This documentary briefly expresses the values and the ideologies during the difficult time
period during World War II, along with America s role in the war. This is without forgetting the
role women took in American society by portraying Wonder Woman, a woman who is a
superhero, and how it completely influenced women of all ages by providing a sense of gender
equality. Not only was Wonder Woman extremely influential, but also other superheroes such as
Captain America became a huge part of World War II. Captain America is one of the superhero
icons of the World War II era because, as the documentary described, it depicted what a true
American soldier was and how in that time most fathers went to war, kids constantly thought of
Captain America as how their father was in the war. This is just some of the ways the introduction
of comic books into people and modern popular culture overall were greatly influenced. Another
topic that captivated me greatly was how real comic book fanatics became great collectors of these
comics. This was eventually caused by the increase of the paper drives in the

How Is Diction Used In Edgar Allan Poe s Farewell To A...
The poem is likely about bells. In the first section, there are sleighs decorated with silver bells,
which ring merrily in the winter night. The second scene takes place in a wedding, during which
golden bells ring. The third section introduces itself with brazen alarm bells clanging as a fire
wreaks havoc in the area, while the last section concludes itself with iron bells and a funeral to
address the dead. The speaker is a person, and is likely an observer. Poe uses situational irony in
section two to disguise the true horror that the poem holds, giving the later sections greater
influence. During the wedding, the speaker observes that the radiant sound of the golden bells

While the beginning half of the poem feels joyous and lighthearted, it is masked by a thin facade.
This is portrayed by the nighttime setting and the shakiness of the seemingly cheerful terms, such
as the verses while the stars, that oversprinkle / all the heavens, seem to twinkle (6 7). In the latter
half of the poem, the tone becomes openly dark. The speaker probably sees this poem and its four
sections as stages in life, which quickly dive from a bright atmosphere to a downright distressing
one. Together, they represent the idea that happiness is

Christmas Tree Essay
During the holidays, a tree will go up somewhere in the household at some undecided time. It
varies from year to year, but the Christmas tree will usually go up in my room because I prefer to
have a Christmas tree, whereas my parents could go without one. The Christmas tree goes up when
it is most convenient, which varies from year to year. Sometimes this is towards the end of
Thanksgiving break, but other times it may not be until two or three weeks into December. My
familyhas had real trees in the past but real trees are kind of a hassle. Because of this, we have
stuck with artificial trees the past few years. When we used to get a real tree, my father would

Apart from these few things, there are very few other decorations. My mother owns a Christmas

Santa s gifts come from at an early age, so certain traditions that revolved around Santa came to a

We would cut out the cookies into shapes, such as a star, stocking, or snowman. Then we would
decorate the cookies with multiple colors of frosting and red and green sprinkles. There was not
an order to who cut out what shapes or who decorated what shapes. This tradition had stopped
relatively quickly, once my eldest cousin had reached high school. Now if I bake during the

will gift them to others. I thoroughly enjoy listening to Christmas music, even before Thanksgiving

Foreshadowing In The Awakening
Karissa Sirois Mrs. Schroeder AP Literature and Composition 29 December, 2017 The Awakening
1988 Prompt There are many literary works that have mental or psychological events. This
revelation or discovery almost always plays as the climactic peak in each piece of literature. Author
s create such climaxes through foreshadowing, suspense and progressive building up to the point of
intellectual or emotional discovery. In Chopin s The Awakening Edna Pontellier, the main
protagonist, experiences an awakening that is extremely climactic for the reader s. Edna s
awakening is emotional, sexual and intellectual because she discovers her internal desire for
independence, the consequence of freedom and the realization that it is unattainable. Although...

Edna s sexual awakening is one of the first things addressed in the first chapter when she chooses
not to wear her wedding rings on the beach. She spends most of her time with the notoriously
flirtatious Robert, not with her children or husband. From her interactions with Robert and her
more reserved habits, compared to most Creoles, reader s are able to infer the growth of their
relationship and a possible affair in the future. After her vacation back in New Orleans as Edna s
emotional awakening develops, but not as obviously as her sexual awakening. The first direct
implication of an affair comes when Leonce goes to Doctor Mandelet. In chapter XXIII the
Doctor goes to have dinner with Edna, simply to observe in person the strange behavior Leonce
described to him, but when he meets her she seems perfectly fine. One thing the Doctor does
notice is her behavior with Alcee. Chopin notes the Doctor happier in his selection, when he told
the old, ever new and curious story of the waning of a woman s love, seeking strange, new
channels, only to return to its legitimate source after days of fierce unrest. (Chapter XXIII). This
is the first direct implication of a possible affair approaching in Edna s future, and the Doctor is
one of the only people to notice her growing sexual awakening. Once Alcee further perseus Edna
and kisses her it is described as the first kiss of her life to which her nature had really responded. It
was a flaming torch that kindled desire. (Chapter XXVII) completing her sexual awakening and

The religious theory surrounding witchcraft is centred on Reformation, which brought a challenge
to Catholicism from Luther. By the 1550 s there were religious wars in Germany. Calvin went on
further to attack Catholics and Calvinism spread throughout Europe as a result. At the end of the
sixteenth century, Europe had been divided between Catholics and Protestants where England,
Germany and the Netherlands were mostly protestant. Whereas, Spain, Italy and most of France

were keen to root out magic in all its forms because they associated it with catholic practices and
superstition. There was confessional conflict as Hugh Roper sees witchcraft as being motivated
by catholic and protestant desire to show godliness in a time of religious schism. The witch hunt
cultivated feelings of moral superiority plus helped to remove or reduce feelings of guilt because
of religious changes. This again can be a form of psychological projection, which is a type of

Pros And Cons Of Confederate Statues
Gersh Kentzman in the New York Daily News gave the reasonable and understandable reason of
why the federate statues should be removed. He asked why there are no statues of Adolf Hitler in
Berlin. Usually, the statues are to honor people who did something good to their country; someone
who put his life in danger to save his country. Statues also are to honor people s service to the
country. The Confederate statues are for people who divided the country and separated citizens
according to their skin colors or their social classes. These confederate statues and monuments
should be removed because those people did not do anything to build the country. The Confederate
statues can easily remind the victims of civil war or slavery what they went through and how they
were treated. Thus causes conflicts between them and those who made them went through what
they went through. Mayor Landrew, who removed the statueof General Robert E. Leein South
Carolina, said these statues... are not just innocent remembrances of a benign history. These
monuments purposefully celebrate a fictional, sanite confederacy ignoring the death, ignoring the
enslavement... The Confederate monuments and statues are just like a bad memory; nobody wants
to keep remembering it; so why the U.S. should keep those bad men statues? The federate statues
should be removed in the whole country because those men do not deserve any honor. The federate

The Youth Through Prevention And Detection,...
Abstract
Juveniles navigate through a corrections system that is constantly changing. This research paper is
dedicated to those that work with the youth through prevention and detection, rehabilitation, and
establishing a future for juvenile justice. I will be focusing on what causes youth to become
involved in the juvenile justice system, how we can help them get back on track and how to keep
them moving forward in the right direction. In addition, the rehabilitation of the juveniles is
fundamental to their success how it is determined whether they are eligible for rehabilitation
services and how the methods are decided will be key to the final determination on success.
Finally, through research on the various ways we currently educate and reprimand our youth, I will
be identifying how effective we currently are and what we can do differently to become more
effective.
Sam, a four year old preschool student, has been identified as an at risk child after a referral from
his teacher. The student exhibits anti social behaviors, temper tantrums and aggression toward
students and teachers. How has the teacher come to the conclusion that this child was indeed at
risk ? Who will this referral be sent to? How will this child be helped? Through studies on young
children in a variety of structured settings, numerous factors have been identified that lead children
to become offenders. Organizations have begun implementing programs to determine the best way

Nemesis Istomin Research Paper
Whoooooosh! If you listened closely enough early Wednesday morning, you may have heard
Andy Murray s sigh of relief in the distance. Murray s nemesis and world No. 2 Novak Djokovic
was defeated in the second round of the Australian Open.
The Djoker has ruled the tournament Down Under, holding six titles and winning five of the last
six finals at the event. Many, myself included, believed that Djokovic s return to the Grand Slam he
has been most successful at would right his mental ship and return him to his championship form.
Obviously, that wasn t the case.
Denis Istomin, ranked 117th in the world, defeated the former world No. 1 7 6 (8), 5 7, 2 6, 7 6 (5),
6 4 in a MASSIVE Melbourne second round upset.
Like all tennis matches, there are two sides with the outcome. To his credit, Istomin came to play
and kept his foot on the gas throughout the match. He played the with confidence of a Grand Slam
champion, which he has never been, ripping ball after ball, especially down the stretch. ... Show

obviously above his level. You got to give him credit for that. Many things came together for him
today. He s a well deserved winner.
As well as Istomin played and as well as Djokovic acknowledged it, Djokovic losing in the second
round is the real story. The most interesting comments after the match came from Djokovic s former

The purpose of the experiment was to determine how a buffer works and how to use an acid base
indicator. The way a buffer works was determined by observing the changes in pH of solutions of

The Evolution Of Justice In AeschylusThe Oresteia
The trilogy of Aeschylus The Oresteia follows a bloody feud within the House of Atreus. With this
feud there are many boundaries that get crossed and challenged dealing with revenge and murder.
A clear shift in justice is observed over the course of the three plays and Aeschylus shows that this
shift in justice as an evolution that must happen to shape a society. The Oresteiaprovides a message
that a society must come together to define justice in order to become unified and it must protect
the interests of everyone and not just a single case or person. Agamemnonprovides two essential
steps in the evolution of justice over these plays. The war in Troy is attributed to the abduction of
Helen, upon which Agamemnon gathers his army to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The chorus exemplifies this plagued form of justice that continues to occur throughout the play in a
cyclical manner by saying, Justice brings new acts of agony, yes, on new grindstones Fate is
grinding sharp the sword of justice (Agamemnon 1564 1565). The retributive justice described by
the chorus is extremely prominent throughout Agamemnon and provides a foundation for
Aeschylus to show the change in justice from play to play in his trilogy.
The Libation Bearers is a medial step in the evolution of justice in The Oresteia. When Orestes
murders his mother Clytaemestra he exemplifies the justice imposed by the new gods which
contradicts the principles in which the old gods ruled the land. Orestes is encouraged and aided
by Apollo, a member of the new gods, the commit this matricide which opposes the will of The
Furies, who believe in blood for blood justice. This is the first instance in which retributive
justice is challenged because the higher authority is calling upon Orestes to carry out this act
because they believe it is just. Orestes explains his feelings in The Libation Bearers when he says
So he may come, my witness when the day of judgment comes, that I pursued this bloody death
with justice, mother s death (978 981). He is describing how his acts are credited to some higher
system of justice imposed by the gods which alerts a change in the personal retributive justice that
is seen up until this point. Apollo believes that all

Wife Of Bath Character Analysis Essay
In our group, we drew the Wife of Bath, the Reeve, and the Monk, three characters richly
described as physically and morally, quite different. The Wife of Bath, whose tale is later told in
its entirety, stood out as a character in that she was so brazen and bold. She was described as
beautifully gap toothed, promiscuous with husbandry, and so well practiced in the arts of love and
sex that her profession should very well be wife. She dresses richly, reflecting her true talent as a
professional seamstress, and her style is unique. Most of all, she is shrewd and intelligent, using
her own body to get what she wants from her many husbands. For these reasons, though mainly
based on looks, we have chosen Georgia May Jagger, daughter of Mick Jagger, and better known
as the British model for Rimmel London makeup products. Georgia May Jagger is considered
attractive by some, obviously, as she is a model. However, by modern standards, her strange
accent and the large gap in her front teeth, much like the Wife of Bath, is now considered hideous.
In fact, she has become somewhat of an internet meme, with her famous tagline, Get the London

Current Issues Regarding Premarital Cohabitation Essay
Current societal trends allow for more flexibility in establishing, building, and maintaining a
relationship with another individual. Decades ago it was not acceptable for a couple to have sex
or live together before they were married. Today, it is common for couples to reside together, even
before they are engaged. The rise of couples who cohabitate prior to marriagehas altered the way
our society perceives marriage and relationships and led to a reformulation of the dating process.
Prior to the 1960 s it was seen as untoward for couples to have live together if they were not
married. The Civil Rights Movement 1960 s and early 1970 s altered different aspects of society
and how women are viewed. Women were more socially... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
156).
Despite the steady increase in cohabitation across the last several decades, research on its impact
on marital outcome is mixed. Some research has suggested that people who cohabitate long term
and do not plan to marry have lower relationship quality and less stable relationships. However,
other research has indicated that these couples do not have lower quality relationships (Jose, O
Leary, Moyer, 2010, p. 105).
Couples who choose to cohabitate are comprised of varying demographic variables that may be a
factor in their decision to cohabitate. White women are more likely to cohabitate than black or
Hispanic women and white and black men are more likely to cohabitate than Hispanic men
(Casper Bianchi, 2001, p. 155). Premarital cohabitation is associated with marital disruption in
non Hispanic white women, but not non Hispanic black of Mexican women. However, little of
this disruption appears to be attributed to differences in cohabitation (Phillips Sweeney, 2005, p.
297). Black and white couples had equivalent in their expectations for marriage; however, black
couples were less likely to realize their expectations when cohabitating (Guzzo, 2009, p. 184).
Although cohabitation may be viewed as something that primarily occurs between young adults, a
high proportion of couples who cohabitate are in their mid thirties or older (Casper Bianchi, 2001,
p. 157).

the small stones of determination, to the status it wears proudly today, much has changed. It is the

The needy families suffered the most. The government offered relief, or welfare, for those who
qualified. An odd form of welfare was an open jail for the homeless. Similar to the relief camps,
the state of jail was horrible. It was described as a very old, thick walled stone building, with two
stories. At the end of the corridor stood the toilet and one wash basin. No beds or bedding was
provided and the floors were black and swarming with bed bugs. One recalls, Men were all
suffering from gastric trouble due to hunger and the hard boiled beans, weak kidneys from the
freezing cold, and frozen feet. In consequence, there was a steady line up all night through at the

the conditions were terrible. People suffered from hours of waiting in harsh weather conditions
to be served dry bread, boiled beans, and coffee or tea. In addition, eating the meal was often
done in ankle deep sludge. This was not something to be thankful for, as the cost to feed a single
person was four cents. It was clear the soup kitchens could put in more effort. The Prairies
suffered the most, as their way of life had always been less secure. Moreover, the families
required a car and gas in order to get relief, as they had to travel to the city. In addition, many

The Zika Virus Through Latin America And The Caribbean
The most recent outbreak of the Zika Virus through Latin America and the Caribbean, and its
association with microcephaly in newborns has attracted significant attention from researchers and
health specialists. In 2013 and 2015, large outbreaks of the virus were respectively reported in
French Polynesia and Brazil. In 1947, The Zika viruswas first identified in Uganda in Rhesus
monkeys. It was then identified in humans in 1952 in some parts of Uganda and the United
Republic of Tanzania The virus, also known as ZIKV, is an arbovirus of the Flaviviridae family,
and is closely related to dengue, yellow fever and Chikungunya viruses (Al Qahtani et al., 2016.);
an arbovirus refers to a group of viruses transmitted by arthropod vectors (MedicineNet.com,
2016). The Zika disease is caused by the Zika virus that is primarily transmitted through a bite of
an infected Aedes mosquito. Though the incubation period of Zika is not clear, it is estimated to
be around 2 7 days after the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito (World Health Organization, 2016).
Symptomatic signs of the disease are mild fever, skin rashes, malaise, conjunctivitis and muscle and
joint pain (World Health Organization, 2016). Because the virus has mild symptoms and no
associated fatalities, it goes undiagnosed in several cases. In newborns, however, the virus causes
neurological and developmental conditions, including but not limited to Guillain Barre syndrome

only those who fail more often than they succeed can truly understand the beauty of success. To
portray this, Dickinson uses imagery, or the use of the senses to express her theme, within this

Chesapeake Colonies Dbq Analysis
Some may think that both the New England and Chesapeake regions both were alike, since they
were settled by the English. Then they would be wrong. By the 1700 s the two regions were here.
The Jamestown colony was lead here to settle by John Smith, while the Mass Bay colony was
settled by John Cotton and John Winthrop. The Mass Bay colony was inside the New England
region while the Chesapeake area was inside the Jamestown colony. These two regions developed
into two unique societies because of their priorities, climate, growing seasons, and the interactions
with the Natives in their region. They both differ because in New England they mostly settled for
the freedom of their religion, while in Chesapeake they wanted all the profit possible from... Show

The New England region allowed both men and women, but in Chesapeake they didn t allow
women. In New England they had migrated with families and allowed middle aged men and
women to be on this trip. This had an impact where men and women had different work roles
usually men doing the hunting and fishing while the women and if they had children would have
the house keeping job. This would differ from the Chesapeake region where they brought no
families and only had young men more than fourteen and without females they would not be able
to reproduce and have families. This changed how they jobs would work because then they would
not have the gender roles as presented in New England. Once they reached their settlement they
had different scenarios with the natives. In New England they have less encounters with the
Natives there since the disease was present wiped them out. The Natives were decimated by the
disease before the Mayflower reached land which concluded to less conflict. On the other hand the
Natives were not decimated in Chesapeake which then created more conflicts since it was always
wars and conflict for the land and resources within the land. There was war between them and the
Powhatans which was the Powhatan War because of such land and resources. For this reason is

How Does Chinua Achebe Depict Ibo Culture In Things Fall...
How does Achebe depict Ibo culture in Things Fall Apart ? Chinua Achebe s, Things Fall Apart, is
a story of a traditional village in Nigeria from inside Umuofia around the late 1800s. This novel
depicts late African history and shows how the British administrative structure, in the form of the
European Anglican Church, imposed its religion and trappings on the cultures of Africa, which they
believed was uncivilized. This missionary zeal subjugated large native populations. Consequently,
the native traditions gradually disappeared and in time the whole local social structure within
which the indigenous people had lived successfully for centuries was destroyed. Achebe spends the
first half of the novel depicting the Ibo culture, by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though the Ibo are described as primitive and savage by Mr. Smith, one of the missionary
church leaders, the tribesmen evidently show their etiquette through their mannerisms.
Proverbs, a form of Ibo mannerisms, are used quite frequently throughout this novel as the art of
conversation is regarded very highly [by the Ibo], and proverbs are the palm oil with which
words are eaten. (Achebe. P.5:1986) The Ibo people are also not as violent and savage as many
of the missionaries believed. This is shown when a villager from the Mbaino village kills a
woman from the Ibo village, the Ibo village elders and those with titles, instead of initiating war
against the neighbouring Mbaino, reach a peaceful agreement on the reparations from the Mbaino
tribe. ... [A]t the end it was decided to follow the normal course of action. An ultimatum was
immediately dispatched to Mbaino asking them to choose between wars on the one hand, and on
the other the offer of a young man and a virgin as compensation. (P.8) Achebe also expands on the
reflection of the Ibo peoples of being civil, depicting the civilised aspects of the Ibo religion.
Another example similar to the peaceful reparation, previously

Plan For Purchase Health Insurance
. If you were going to purchase health insurance today, which of your Top
Two plans would you choose and why? Include the rationale for your choice and information about
the deductible, premium, co pay, and specialist information.
When purchasing insurance it is extremely imperative that one assesses all of the benefits,
specifications, and details offered in order to choose the best plan in regards to deductibles, co
pays, and coinsurance just to name a few. Among the Top Two plans that I chose, if I was to
purchase health insurance today I would choose the United Healthcare Silver Compass H.S.A.
3600 plan, as it fulfills my healthcare needs the most. This specific plan only has a $500
deductible, full premium, and $0 copay after the $500 dollar deductible for all of the services I
currently use the most. In addition, the estimated cost of this plan per month is $13.37.
Furthermore, for this plan there is no charge after the deductible for office visits to a primary
doctor, office visits to a specialist, visits to the emergency room, and visits to the urgent care
facility; a $0 copay after deductible for brand and generic drugs, no charge for preventive care
coverage, and a no charge after deductible for outpatient surgery, imaging, and hospitalization. In
addition, there is no charge after deductible for laboratory work, X Rays, and maternity coverage.

Black Legged Tick Research Paper
Species Profile of the Black Legged Tick (Ixodes scapularis)
Introduction One of the more common pests located in the Northeastern United States is the Black
Legged Tick (Ixodes scapularis). More commonly known as the Deer Tick this animal primarily
inhabits wooded areas populated by warm blooded wildlife. Specifically the temperate Pine Barrens
in Southern New Jersey, which hosts the 2nd largest tickpopulation in the country (CDC, 2010),
the black legged tick is a common pest that spreads lyme disease. This disease is a bacterial
infection caused by the tick latching onto a host and feeding for an extended period of time. These
ticks attach to most warm blooded woodland creatures and any human beings unfortunate enough to
get close enough. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(CDC, 2015) Female ticks will die in the spring when her eggs burst from her body. These eggs
will litter the forest floor and eventually hatch into 6 legged larvae in the summer. These larva
then attach to much smaller mammals, such as field mice or small birds. Ticks spend as long as
it takes, usually a few days at most, finding the perfect spot to latch on and begin feeding. The
larva feed for a few days or until they are full and eventually drop off the host. With their appetite
sated, larval ticks will now prepare for their next stage of life. This occurs over the course of the
fall and winter time period as ticks burrow underground to retain warmth. They emerge in the
spring, this time as 8 legged nymphs and the feeding cycle begins anew. This is also the period
where lyme disease becomes an issue. While feeding on smaller animals, ticks contract the
disease and they become carriers. They will transmit the disease as nymphs. Like the larvae, a
nymph attaches to a larger mammal ranging from squirrels to human beings. Over the course of
a few days, the nymph finds a spot to attach and feed. This happens over Spring and Summer. If
they wait too long, the nymph will die of starvation. When sated once again, the nymph falls to
the forest floor and prepares one more to proceed to the next stage of life. By Autumn, nymphs
will have grown into adults. This is one of the more important stages simply because
reproduction can now occur. Females will find a host in order to feed. Males find a host and a
suitable mate. The male, once a mate is found, will fertilize as many females as it possibly can
before dying. The females will continue to feed until they are full and eventually drop off. Once
she is ready to lay eggs in the spring, her body will burst and the eggs distribute along the forest
floor as the cycle begins

Asbestos And Its Effects On Society
Asbestos is a small set of minerals that occur naturally in the environment. These minerals are
silicate compounds, which means they contain silicon and oxygen; they form as groups of fibers
that can easily be separated. These fibers are very durable, as they show a strong resistance to many
common chemicals, heat and electricity. This made asbestosappear be a useful chemical for products
used in a wide range of industries, so much that the United States military mandated its use in its
branches. Since the industrial revolution, asbestos has been used to insulate factories, schools,
homes, ships, to make automobile brake and clutch parts, roofing shingles, ceiling and floor tiles,
cement, textiles, and hundreds of other products.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Approximately 90 percent of the asbestos used commercially in the world is chrysotile.
Amphibole asbestos includes the minerals actinolite, tremolite, anthophyllite, crocidolite, and
amosite. These minerals have weaker, straight, needle like fibers that make them more limited
in their ability to be fabricated. Amosite asbestos is primarily sourced in South Africa, it is
considered to be more toxic than chrysotile, and was most commonly used in construction
products. It was at one time the second most commonly used form of asbestos. Crocidolite,
which is known as blue asbestos, once made up about four percent of all asbestos used in the
United States. This blue asbestos is extremely thin, and harder and more brittle than other types,
which causes it to break easily and release dangerous needle like fibers that can be easily inhaled.
This made it to be the most harmful form of asbestos by far, and it was often used as a
reinforcement material for plastics and for making ropes. Actinolite asbestos was often used to
make insulation and construction materials such as drywall and paint, although it is very rare, and
usually found in metamorphic rocks. Chrysotile asbestos was the most widely used form in the
world. It is estimated that about 90 95 percent of all asbestos that remains in buildings in the U.S.
and Canada is of this variety. Chrysotile was used heavily in fireproofing and in insulation products.

The Requirements For Home Area Network Security
Abstract:
The main objective of this document is to create and analyze the requirement for home area
network security. Security set up balance is always required against the risk being moderated. As
HAN is related to the households there is a little interest paid to the home area network security.
Earlier the threats for the HAN were other malicious programs and viruses. Now in this modern
world with the invention of wireless networking, broadband and convergence of various
communication technologies which has been implemented by HANs, these vulnerabilities have
increased more. Public has a very less knowledge on theft of personal information, hacking of
credit cards and they are not going to affect them a lot. Thus this document illustrates the present
and future technology of home area network security and how is it going to affect and also some of
the security measures for home area network.
1.Introduction:
In this modern era, everyone has a computer and has an internet connection. The benefits that go
with networking and the interconnection of computers have made a lot of impact into an average
household. Home area network is referred as the downward pricing trend of the personal
computers and the networking hardware. The latest versions of the different operating systems
comprise of network wizards which facilitates configuring of a home local area network
practically easy. Nowadays anyone can have a home area network at their place by connecting the

Search Engine Optimization, Or Seo
Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is a technical marketing discipline, the purpose of which
is to make a website relevant, reachable, and visible to users searching for keywords and topics.
(Linkdex). With an average of 3 billion web queries each day, internet search is critical for a
business to gain edge over its competition. SEO has become the standard for marketers as a way to
be found in search to attract qualified traffic and leads.
From a business perspective, SEO cannot be treated as a separate entity from a company s overall
marketing plan. In order to be successful, Search Engine Optimization considerations should play a
role in guiding the public relations, development, and marketing team efforts so that reputation, ...

Ranking is how the search engine decides to deliver the most relevant results to searchers
(Copyblogger). This is accomplished by algorithmic functions that rank search results based on the
best guess of what someone was really looking for during their web query.
One obvious coding technique that is used to optimize search ability is the strategic placement
of identifying search engine keywords in the HTML title tag, meta description tag, and header
tags. However, before a web developer can start optimizing his site for a certain keyword or
phrase, he needs to understand what keywords are the best fit for his business. To do so, a web
developer may use a keyword search tool such as Google AdWords, that provide targeted
keywords that are relevant to a web developer s audience, are pulling in a good amount of search
traffic, and are not too difficult to rank. After a web developer has researched and selected which
keywords would best match his web page, he must then start incorporating those keywords into
important parts of the webpage. HTML titles have always been and remain the most important
HTML signal that search engines use to understand what a page is about. Unique, descriptive titles
are the most successful in being searched. The meta description tag, one of the oldest supported
HTML elements, allows you to suggest how you d like your pages to be described in

Explain Paley s Argument for the Existence of God
4a. Explain Paley s argument for the existence of God (25)
William Paley s argument for the existence of God is an important aspect of the Design argument,
which argues that the universe is being directed towards an end purpose due to the a posteriori
(subject to experience) evidence of an intelligent designer, who is God. This is because it is perhaps
arguably the most famous version, and the theory which modern day theories for the Design
argument are built upon. The first version of the Design argument came from Plato, a Greek
philosopher, who developed it to address the universe s apparent order. Plato proposed in his book
Timaeus that a demiurge , a divine being of supreme wisdom and intelligence, was the creator of the

B. The universe has no purpose. Discuss. (10)
It has often been a long running debate between scholars over whether or not the universe has no
purpose. I personally believe it does not, for a variety of reasons. One reason is in regards to
Paley s argument, which is that it depends on having one view of the world, whereas it
realistically is more subjective. If you perceive the world as having order and happiness within
this order then there is no issue. However, if you have been greatly effected by the evil and
suffering in the world of are a pessimist, you would be more inclined to believe the world to be
flawed, or as the 18th century philosopher David Hume put forward, the idea that it was the first
flawed work of some infant deity. Also, as the 18th century philosopher Immanuel Kant put
forward, it is possible that there is no order in the world at all, and that we humans have simply
imposed order on our surroundings due to our minds categorizing it as such. Another reason I do
not believe that the universe has a purpose is due to the brutality of nature, rather than peaceful
harmony. As put forward by Herbert Spencer, a 19th century

Patient Safety Thermometer
Patient Safety Thermometer In 2011, even before the Francis report was published, around 1000
frontline clinicians from strategic health authorities took part in a safety express pilot. The pilot
was designed to test innovative way to achieve a reduction in patient harm. However, one of the
programme s successes was a simple audit tool, the Patient Safety Thermometer (Buckley, 2014).
The NHS Patient Safety Thermometer (PST) has been designed to be used by all frontline
healthcare professionals. Power et al (2012), indicates that the PST can be used to take a snapshot
measure of pressure ulcers, harm from falls, urinary tract infection in patients with catheters and
VTE. Through the use of minimal set data, the PST helps signal where individuals, teams and
organisations might need to focus more on detailed measurement, training and improvement
(Power et al, 2012). It should be noted that the NHS Patient Safety Thermometer measures
prevalence, not incidence, therefore it is of benefit to understand the difference between these
and how these harms are measured in the tool ( Table 4). The PST provides a temperature check
on harm that can be used alongside other measure of harm to measure local and system progress
in providing a care environment that is free of harm (NHS, 2013). Power et al (2012) states that

The Symbolism Of How Soccer Explains The World
For as long as I can remember sports has always been symbolic of war. The symbolism has been
loose and vague because the sports battlefield is clearly not a war zone, besides in our mind. The
terms can be seen in every arena, every venue, every sport. Blitz, field general, cannon for an
arm, volley, blown up, a battle at the plate, even neutral zone comes from the battlefield. Athletes
are referred to as warriors and they are engaging in battle, in pseudo warfare. It s not new or
different to hear that type of jargon because looking backing to history sports did serve as a
temporary battlefield. The Mayans used the ball game to settle many disputes, Native Americans

The War Of The Union And Confederate Side During The Civil...
One of the few newspapers to act like Switzerland received a huge amount of backlash for doing
so. The Republican paper did not succumb to the Union or confederate side and instead
advocated for both sides, since the two editors of the paper had different views, but the public
was not pleased with this decision. The general public deemed it weakness and a sign of
duplicity to publish articles advocating both sides of the issue and dubbed the paper the swill
tub (Sachsman, 2014, p. 53). A Virginia paper tried this tactic as well, to no avail. The attempt,
however, on the part of any opposition paper to be simultaneously a Union journal and a
Southern journal was becoming illogical if not well neigh impossible (Cappon, 1936, p.14).
This explains why the majority took a side during the civil war, as no newspaper wanted to loose
the core of their audience due to not taking sides. It is important to note that not all of the papers
in this era were propagandist. The Enquirer was able to omit their opinions and write objectively
about the war. Wise and his successors objectively reported the news rather than venting their
dissatisfaction with Confederate s conduct of the war (Davis Robertson, 2009, p. 37). This should
have been how all the papers of this era reported the war yet a backlash amongst the public
contributed to a public outcry, which can be detrimental to a newspapers survival. The U.S.
government and Confederates were susceptible to using propaganda to sway

For My Second Practicum, I Wrote Two Lesson Plans Because
For my second practicum, I wrote two lesson plans because I wanted to allow my student to

Penny by Richard Carson and an interactive reading lesson over I Think I Forgot by Mercer Mayer.
Planning for two different books was not difficult, but I had to keep in mind that my student was
only going to have the opportunity to read one of the books, and in the end, my student chose to
read The Story of Henny Penny. For this shared readinglesson, I followed the steps for a shared

Reread the story. 5. Continue the process. 6. Students read independently.
If I had more time or saw my student more frequently, I would make sure to include these steps
during a shared reading lesson.
After I planned the shared reading portion of the lesson, I planned a short writing activity where my
student would have the opportunity to write down the three main events from the story.
The teaching part of this lesson went in a totally different direction than I had planned. After the
picture walk, my student showed a deep interest in trying to read the book out loud on his own,
and I made the decision to let my student give the book a try. Since this book was a level above
what my student s level, I figured that after a page or so he would want me to take over the
reading. That is not what happened though.
My student read the entire book on his own with minimal error! This slight change in my lesson
plan meant that I was no longer teaching a shared reading lesson, but rather a guided reading
lesson. After my student finished reading, we proceeded with the lesson I had planned. We
discussed the story, what happened, what plot was, and then the plot of this story. Then he used
the story cards to retell the story. I labeled clothes pins with numbers one through six and had them
on a piece of yarn to symbolize that the events on the card happened in order to form a whole story.

Dante s The Divine Comedy
In the Divine Comedy, more specifically Inferno, Dante as a person changes. Dante Alighieri
wrote the Divine Comedy in the early 1300s in his early 30s. In the beginning of the book Dante
mentions being midway through his life. Now, Dante is a religious man, and has read the entire
Bible. In the book of Psalms within the Bible, God says that a man s life is three score and a
decade, or seventy years. Using this information, we can gather that Dante is 35 years old at the
start of Inferno.
In his Divine Comedy, Dante journeys through all the different levels of Hell with his guide Virgil
keeping him safe and informed. There are nine circles of Hell, each descending into the next, with
every lower circle containing a worse punishment for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the second circle, we have those who were lustful in life. The punishment for these sinners is to
be constantly, violently tossed around by a massive storm, which prevents them from getting in
the mood. Here we also see the ruins of Hell below the storm, the ruination caused by the coming
of Jesus. When he came, it created a massive earthquake in Hell, which destroyed and damaged
many parts of it.
The third circle houses those who are guilty of Gluttony, or being so focused on habits and
focusing on the wrong things in life that they ignored God. These people are forced to live in a
very cold, very gross, putrescent slush. They are also constantly hunted by Cerberus, who either
eats and digests them (as they are dead already, they survive this process) or crushes them under his
massive weight.
As mentioned earlier, each circle holds sinners that are considered worse than others. In this case,
that means that God weighs poor habits as worse than Lust. Many people do not share this
opinion, and by this time, few people consider Gluttony a sin at all. The circle of Lust is higher
than the circle of Gluttony, which would give the impression that Gluttony is worse than Lust. Both
sides can be argued, however.
Seeing Lust as Gluttony makes sense, as, at first glance, it would seem that Lust would take over
someone s life much easier than bad habits. However, it is also understandable to

King Henry Iv Part II Diction
In a very haunting soliloquy from King Henry IV part II by William Shakespeare the reader is
enthralled with the thoughts of King Henry, who is in the despairing clutches of a very common
chronic disorder named Insomnia. Through author s use of diction and imagery, we are able, as a
reader, to fully understand his state of mind in such a sleep deprived and frustrating situation.
Throughout the entirety of the soliloquy, the author, William Shakespeare, uses contrast as a form
of imagery. When depicting settings in which sleep arrives and settings in which it does not, the
reader can understand the king s thoughts. For example, Shakespeare describes, in lines six through
eight, smoky cribs or huts that are fly filled as the places where... Show more content on

The author s diction is a reliable asset to the understanding of King Henry s emotions towards
himself, who has Insomnia, and towards others who do not have such a disorder. At the
beginning of the King s soliloquy, he questions sleep in a personifying manner. O gentle sleep!
Nature s soft nurse, how have I frightened thee, makes it clear that King Henry feels himself is to
blame for his lack of sleep and that sleep being a Nurse can cure him of his disorder. It also
reflects his own frustration regarding the unresponsiveness of his sleep to come and claim him.
As his soliloquy continues it becomes evident that he begins to feel indignation and a feeling of
being wronged by sleep because others find it so easy to perform such action, while he struggles
and gets nowhere. This can be backed up by the constant negative connotative words being used
by the author when speaking of others who are able to sleep. For example, in line seven the
author uses the word uneasy to describe the setting of a place where sleep is present for people,
and in line thirteen, Shakespeare uses the word loathsome as a nab at the beds that are hardly any
good yet are still able to provoke sleep. The King s desperation is also shown when the author
evokes an entity with the utmost of negative connotation and

Essay about Conflict Resolution
Conflict Resolution
Many people enjoy working or participating in a group or team, but when a group of people work
together chances are that conflicts will occur. Hazleton describes conflict as the discrepancy
between what is the perceived reality and what is seen as ideal (2007). We enter into conflicts
reluctantly, cautiously, angrily, nervously, confidently and emerge from them battered, exhausted,
sad, satisfied, triumphant. And still many of us underestimate or overlook the merits of conflict the
opportunity conflict offers every time it occurs (Schilling, nd.). Conflict does not have to lead to a
hostile environment or to broken relationships. Conflict if resolved effectively can lead to a
positive experience for everyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Keeping all these in mind can lead to the best solution to solve the conflict.
Change and Expectations People do not always adjust well to change. Oftentimes when change
occurs, conflict will arise. The new boss on the job or the new member of the team may be the
change that brings a conflict. Expectations if not set clearly and held to standard can also lead to
conflict among the team. Expectations must be set from the beginning. Expectations must also be
clear and it must be verified that each team member understands the expectations. If a short coming
on the expectations occurs, then action must be taken immediately. If no action is taken this could
be understood as silent approval and team members will believe that the expectation is no longer
important or required. When conflict does occur, the five models set out in The Thomas Kilmann
Conflict Mode Instrument sets the standards for resolving the conflict. Avoidance Avoidance is
defined as an act or practice of avoiding or withdrawing from something (Merriam Webster.com).
Avoidance may not be the answer if the conflict directly affects the team or the team s goal.
Avoidance is usually used when the conflict is irrelevant, relationships are at stake, more important
issues are pressing, when one party is more emotionally involved, or when more information is
needed (Culbertson, 2000). In avoidance the parties involved agree to place

In the context of the Vietnamese society as the course has presented it through the online textbook

Vietnamese people and mobilize support for their initiatives? Why, in Vietnam
, was personal
leadership so very important? Refer to specific examples

Citizen Kane Mise En Scene Analysis
Citizen Kane, directed by the talented Orson Welles, is one of the most significant films ever made.
The techniques used in Citizen Kane were truly pioneering for the industry at the time they were
used. Citizen Kane challenged the traditional narrative and technical elements of classic Hollywood
cinema through the use of multiple narrators all with their own backstory to convey, revolutionary
use of mise en scene to display certain meanings and emotions throughout the film, and the
significant social implications of the film. Strong narrative is the backbone of any fictional film.
Orson Wellesemploys the use of multiple narrators to tell the story of Mr. Kane. There were four

The Wild West is known for its cowboys and gunslingers. In the Wild West the pistol was an
important piece of equipment. Samuel Colt played an important part in the Wild West because of
the invention of the Colt Revolver. Samuel Colt was born on July 19, 1814 in Hartford,
Connecticut. He was one of eight children. As a young boy Samuel Colts principle interest was guns

So the raft drifted away from the mine so when Colt set off the mine it blew mud and water all
over the viewers. This did not make the men happy. Three of the men came over and Colt was
about to be thrown into the river when a young man by the name of Elisha K. Root came and
stopped them. This man would later help Colt by designing most of the different machines that
would make revolvers (Peterson 209). In 1836 Samuel Colt was granted a U.S. patent for a cap
and ball pistol with a revolving cylinder that could fire five or six shots before reloading (Silva).
After finally getting the patent, Colt bought a large tract of land about two hundred acres in
Hartford Connecticut where he built a giant new factory where he started producing many
revolvers. Colt made three different models of his revolvers and he also made carbines, rifles,
and shotguns. Colt s revolvers became big. The Connecticut River was next to Colt s land and
would flood that land every spring. So Colt hired hundreds of laborers to work on building a dyke
to keep it from flooding. The dyke was one of the biggest in America at a mile and three quarters
long. Colt s dyke was completed in 1854 (Haven). The United States was the first nation to give its
troops a revolver. Colt s revolvers were used in the Mexican war. After the massacre at the Alamo,
the Texas Rangers, with Colt revolvers in hands charged the Mexicans shouting remember the

The Case, The Hela Case Has Raised Questions About The...
I choose Henrietta Lacks study case, the HeLa case has raised questions about the legality of using
genetic materials without permission. Neither Mrs. Lacks nor her family granted permission to
harvest her cells, which were then cloned and sold since the 1950s. Recently, scientists at the
European Molecular Biology Laboratory published the genome of a line of HeLacells, making it
publicly available for downloading. Another study, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health at
the University of Washington, was about to be published in Nature. The Lacks family was made
aware of neither project.
Eric S. Lander, the founding director of the Broad Institute, a science research center at Harvard
and M.I.T., said resolving these issues is crucial to taking advantage of the knowledge hidden in
our genomes. If we are going to solve cancer, it s going to take a movement of tens of thousands,
or hundreds of thousands, of patients willing to contribute information from their cancer genomes
towards a common good, Dr. Lander said. We are going to need to have ways to have patients feel
comfortable doing that. We can t do it without a foundation of respect and trust.
Henrietta Lacks was born Loretta Pleasant on August 1, 1920, in Roanoke, Virginia, at some point
she changed her name to Henrietta. On January 1951 Mrs. Lack arrived at her local doctor with
abdominal pain, and profuse vaginal bleeding, she was tested for syphilis, which came back

Different Areas Of The Christian Engineers
Throughout my autoethnography, I will examine a few different areas of the Christian Engineers
in group. I will examine the two different in groups, because one can be a Christian and not an
engineer since they are two distinct groups. Then, I ll examine how being religious in the modern
day workplace can cause tension with co workers. Finally, I will explore how the two overlap,
looking at specifically where engineeringethicscan align with the Christian life. To begin, one
must ask what is an in group? Gordon Allport describes an in group as being a collection of
people who use we with the same essential significance (Allport, 1994, p. 173). Allport is saying
there is no hard definition of an in group, it is dependent on others to identify as part of this group.
Moreover, to simply be a member of the in group, one must declare they are a member, and others
will identify with such group. To better understand in groups, let s examine the Christian in group.
One can characterize the Christian in group can as those who follow Christianity and live a
Christian life . The Christian life is being receptive of Jesus into one s life, seeing Him as the
ultimate sacrifice made for all of humanity. With such knowledge, Christians are joyful for the
sacrifice made for them, and they choose to live their lives with such knowledge guiding and
motivating them (Novello, 2014, p.324 326). With this knowledge guiding their lives, Christians

Similarities And Differences Between The Scottish And...
Even though there are many similarities between the Scottish and Irish cultures, there are also
many differences. For one, the Scottish have trouble defining what Scottish culture is, this is
because they joined the UK at a very early time. Because of this, much of Scottish culture has
joined together with English culture. This could be seen when we were walking around Glasgow
and saw many English Art and sculptures, as well as walking around the Holyrood house in
Edenborough. And now that Scotlandmay break away from England, the people cling to fantasy
and mystery, as well as their own accomplishments to create and define Scottish culture. In
Glasgow, the Peoples Palace displayed many accomplishments of the cities people, all stating that
they were the first to invent this and the first to do that. Instead of looking back, the city showed
how it was progressive and urged its people to move forward. In Edenborough, the tour guide
talked about how they were the first to invent skyscrapers and other architecture. Instead of talking
about how the country moved forward as a whole, each city talked about how they moved forward
and the people in it. Scotland has also clung to many mythological and fantasy ideals. For one, the
national animal of Scotland is the Unicorn, which is a mythological creature. Also, during the ghost
tour I took around Edenborough, the Scottish believe that they invented Halloween and the city is
filled with ghost stories. Even in the north, Loch

Zombies And The Horror Genre
In modern times, zombies saturate popular culture and have become a mainstay in the cinematic
world. Many people view zombies as a purely fictional creation with little purpose beyond merely
providing entertainment for the duration of the movie. However, this view of zombies misses
their true original purpose, a purpose which they still serve today. Zombies were not created as
arbitrary fictional characters, but rather as monsters with meaning (Blumberg). Zombies serve
as an outlet for people to process their biggest fears in the world around them. Zombies and the
horror genre have become a modern cinematic expression of people s deepest fears, fears that
evolve over time as people change. The general concept of zombies as we know them today
originated in the 1910s with the silent French film J accuse. This film helped to show the horrors
of the war and the pain inflicted upon the French people. To the modern viewer however, the view
of zombies in this film would appear to be strange and very different monsters from what they are
used to seeing. In fact, many people would not consider it a zombiemovie at all, but rather a movie
that had many elements that later would contribute to the development of zombies. The zombies in
the film are seemingly real people and reflect the horrors that the French faced during the war.
While this idea of zombies does not remain, the concept that zombies reflect people s biggest fears
remain. While the zombies in J accuse were one

The Influence Of Jazz Music
Jazz is one of few purely American art forms. Its creation came out of the southern United States
and the social conditions associated with the relationship between the white and African American
communities there (Larson 1). African American musicians in particular were the key proponents
in the development of jazzin the early 20th century. The creation and shaping of jazz music came
from a combination of the musical styles of spirituals, the blues, ragtime, and Western European
classical music (Larson 37 38). Although jazz originated from these four styles, defining jazz
itself cannot be done so plainly. Since its origin, jazz has continued to progress and branch out into
a wide variety of musical styles and genres. At its root, jazz is about the individual expression of
the musician (Larson 2). John Coltranewas one of many musicians that used jazz as this medium.
Through his early works in the bebop and hard bop styles to free form and more spiritual styled
music later in his career, Coltrane pursued deeper expression from his music (Wikipedia). John
Coltrane s upbringing and early interest in music led to a successful career of highly innovative
works that have left a lasting legacy and influence on the jazz community.
John William Coltrane was born September 23, 1926 in Hamlet, North Carolina. His family moved
to High Point, North Carolina shortly after his birth and would remain there throughout his
childhood. Coltrane s family embraced music and it became an

Definition Of Migration Of International Migration
Literature review Definition of Migration International migration may be defined as movement of
people from one country to another in order to take up employment, or establish residence or to
seek refuge from persecution (IOM, 1993). Recognized authors (Appleyard, 1991; Rodgers, 1992;
Abrar et.al., 2000) have categorized international migration into 6 broad categories. These are
permanent settlers, documented or regular labour migrants, undocumented or irregular migrants,
asylum seekers, recognized refugees and defacto refugees. Migration includes a variety of
movement of people from one place to another, albeit characterized by different purposes that
manifest itself in residency for specific periods ie., time and nature, like permanent, temporary,
involuntary, legal or illegal. It is the purpose that distinguishes one kind of migration from another.
Some migrate to settle permanently in the country of destination, some for employment purpose,
while some even emigrate and seek asylum, escaping from prosecution or from disasters. Migrants
who return home often contribute by being enterprising, innovative etc. by investing their expertise
and savings. These skilled workers may launch new ventures in their countries and promote
economic development. Some pass their expertise along to others as teachers or trainers. As a
result of bidirectional trend of migration, in some parts of the world, the old dynamic of brain
drain is giving way to brain circulation , contrary to

Informative Essay On Welding
Do you have a broken pipe that needs fixing? Are you simply curious about how construction
workers fuse metal together? The metal fabrication experts at C C Machine of La Crosse,
Wisconsin, have compiled a list of the most common types of welding and what they are used for.
Remember, if you are going to be soldering at home, always wear protective gear such as a face
mask, leather jacket, and work boots.
MIG Welding: The most widely used type is MIG welding, also known as Gas Metal Arc Welding.
Its basic operation is easy to learn, so if you re looking for a DIY wire welding solution, this may
be it. MIG welding works well when manipulating stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminum. The
biggest advantage is its speed, and since MIG welding

Comparison Between Lift And Stack
At first glance, these three photographs are easily understood, it seems to be a village
rebuilding after a natural disaster or possibly just a normal day of work. However, there is so
much more to see. For example, the five men in red in the photograph on the far left Lift and
Stack, are dressed quite differently from the people around them. Which means to me that they
came to help from either a nearby village or, more likely in my opinion, a monastery from their
attire and shaved heads. These men seem to be loading firewood into the bed of a truck to bring
to less fortunate areas, with the help of village natives. The village in the background seems to be
in better shape than the other two photographs, which makes it even more likely that they are
moving the firewood to those who are in need.
Working Like Ants, the photograph on the far right, people, mostly men are taking supplies off of
a ship. Using boards and thin logs as bridges over the water. The colors in this photograph are
rather gloomy, though there are pops of color on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to ear truly carefree unlike the adults around them, a testament of childhood innocence. Any child,
even at the worst of times can find light in the dark. This trait is lost as we grow, I believe the
photographer wanted to catch true light on camera to share with the world. These three photos

  • 2. Living Together with Diversity by Valuing Our Differences Diversity involves recognizing the value of differences, combating discrimination, and promoting inclusiveness. It also understands the powerful effects that culture plays in everyday life. We as individuals take these assets and use them to the best of our knowledge. Diversity allows us to learn different aspects of fashion, food, electronics, values and background from different people from the past time to our future. Thus, diversity and ancient time shows how much the world has change through time it also shows how history repeats itself. People use different culture and ancient methods in today s society that gives us the tools that we use in everyday routines. These statements acknowledge the facts of Paul Graham s essay what you can t say as correct when he discuss the values of modern society and how taboos and beliefs effect culture inventions all throughout the globe. All though diversity shares different culture of believes, it also proves that fashion takes a huge impact on it as well. An article in the New York Times this old thing is turning heads explains how a simple dress made in the 30s has become the center of a master piece. The dress has cap sleeves, v neck with a cloth belt and two small ferry Bakelite buttons on the side. What stranded out the most was its New York designing that was printed on the dress that had eyes staring from every angle. Whoever wore it was an original. • 3. Regulatory Requirements Of The Pharmaceutical Industry Us,... In order for biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies to market their biologics and drugs, companies must receive approval from their respective regulatory authority. The three global leaders in the pharmaceutical industry US, EU, and Japan all have their own regulatory authorities. Each have their advantages and disadvantages and as a regulatory representative. Though there is a push to harmonize regulatory requirements at a global scale for the past 20 years development and approval of global guidelines has had drawbacks in approving drugs at a globally. The high regulatory uncertainty is considered as a major barrier for efficient development of safe and effective biological therapies, hence deterring entry for large multinational pharmaceutical companies to develop innovative biological products at a global level.1 For a biotechnology company it can be difficult to chose which market to seek the regulatory approval for first and many questions come to mind for which country will be beneficial for market approval. Personally as a regulatory affairs professional I would seek approval in the US due to the comprehensive history and development of the food and drug administration and the acceptance of the regulatory pathway at a global scale. Also the EU and US regulatory systems are more similar than different, and due to recent steps in harmonization from both regulatory regimes in scientific testing standards and clinical trials, it can make it more efficient to ... • 4. Superhero Influence On American Culture Comic book industries have been the main establishers for the new American youth culture. This has also been well used to settle a cultural representation for communism, wartime propaganda, and, to those adults who thought their child acting rude was caused by comics, a sign of the decline of comic books, thus making the industry fall into consensus and conformity. Ever since the first comic book was created in the 1930 s, Americans have been greatly influenced because of its vast enjoyment. Whether from romance to war or justice to crime, comic books have forever changed popular culture and can definitely portray how, at different times in U.S. history, people understood and interpreted events around the globe. This becomes apparent in the film Comic Book Superheroes: Unmasked when the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This documentary briefly expresses the values and the ideologies during the difficult time period during World War II, along with America s role in the war. This is without forgetting the role women took in American society by portraying Wonder Woman, a woman who is a superhero, and how it completely influenced women of all ages by providing a sense of gender equality. Not only was Wonder Woman extremely influential, but also other superheroes such as Captain America became a huge part of World War II. Captain America is one of the superhero icons of the World War II era because, as the documentary described, it depicted what a true American soldier was and how in that time most fathers went to war, kids constantly thought of Captain America as how their father was in the war. This is just some of the ways the introduction of comic books into people and modern popular culture overall were greatly influenced. Another topic that captivated me greatly was how real comic book fanatics became great collectors of these comics. This was eventually caused by the increase of the paper drives in the ... • 5. How Is Diction Used In Edgar Allan Poe s Farewell To A... The poem is likely about bells. In the first section, there are sleighs decorated with silver bells, which ring merrily in the winter night. The second scene takes place in a wedding, during which golden bells ring. The third section introduces itself with brazen alarm bells clanging as a fire wreaks havoc in the area, while the last section concludes itself with iron bells and a funeral to address the dead. The speaker is a person, and is likely an observer. Poe uses situational irony in section two to disguise the true horror that the poem holds, giving the later sections greater influence. During the wedding, the speaker observes that the radiant sound of the golden bells dwells / on the future!...tells / of the rapture that impels ,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the beginning half of the poem feels joyous and lighthearted, it is masked by a thin facade. This is portrayed by the nighttime setting and the shakiness of the seemingly cheerful terms, such as the verses while the stars, that oversprinkle / all the heavens, seem to twinkle (6 7). In the latter half of the poem, the tone becomes openly dark. The speaker probably sees this poem and its four sections as stages in life, which quickly dive from a bright atmosphere to a downright distressing one. Together, they represent the idea that happiness is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Christmas Tree Essay During the holidays, a tree will go up somewhere in the household at some undecided time. It varies from year to year, but the Christmas tree will usually go up in my room because I prefer to have a Christmas tree, whereas my parents could go without one. The Christmas tree goes up when it is most convenient, which varies from year to year. Sometimes this is towards the end of Thanksgiving break, but other times it may not be until two or three weeks into December. My familyhas had real trees in the past but real trees are kind of a hassle. Because of this, we have stuck with artificial trees the past few years. When we used to get a real tree, my father would buy one of the trees for sale at Marketplace and set it up by himself. Once... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We used to hang simple, red stockings in the living room. We no longer hang stockings and have not done so in years. I had discovered where Santa s gifts come from at an early age, so certain traditions that revolved around Santa came to a quick halt. When my cousins and I were younger, we would all make sugar cookies with our Nana. We would cut out the cookies into shapes, such as a star, stocking, or snowman. Then we would decorate the cookies with multiple colors of frosting and red and green sprinkles. There was not an order to who cut out what shapes or who decorated what shapes. This tradition had stopped relatively quickly, once my eldest cousin had reached high school. Now if I bake during the holidays, I try out recipes I find on Pinterest and bake by myself. I normally enjoy them myself and leave extras in the fridge for my parents. Other times when I have made extra baked goods I will gift them to others. • 7. Foreshadowing In The Awakening Karissa Sirois Mrs. Schroeder AP Literature and Composition 29 December, 2017 The Awakening 1988 Prompt There are many literary works that have mental or psychological events. This revelation or discovery almost always plays as the climactic peak in each piece of literature. Author s create such climaxes through foreshadowing, suspense and progressive building up to the point of intellectual or emotional discovery. In Chopin s The Awakening Edna Pontellier, the main protagonist, experiences an awakening that is extremely climactic for the reader s. Edna s awakening is emotional, sexual and intellectual because she discovers her internal desire for independence, the consequence of freedom and the realization that it is unattainable. Although... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Edna s sexual awakening is one of the first things addressed in the first chapter when she chooses not to wear her wedding rings on the beach. She spends most of her time with the notoriously flirtatious Robert, not with her children or husband. From her interactions with Robert and her more reserved habits, compared to most Creoles, reader s are able to infer the growth of their relationship and a possible affair in the future. After her vacation back in New Orleans as Edna s emotional awakening develops, but not as obviously as her sexual awakening. The first direct implication of an affair comes when Leonce goes to Doctor Mandelet. In chapter XXIII the Doctor goes to have dinner with Edna, simply to observe in person the strange behavior Leonce described to him, but when he meets her she seems perfectly fine. One thing the Doctor does notice is her behavior with Alcee. Chopin notes the Doctor happier in his selection, when he told the old, ever new and curious story of the waning of a woman s love, seeking strange, new channels, only to return to its legitimate source after days of fierce unrest. (Chapter XXIII). This is the first direct implication of a possible affair approaching in Edna s future, and the Doctor is one of the only people to notice her growing sexual awakening. Once Alcee further perseus Edna and kisses her it is described as the first kiss of her life to which her nature had really responded. It was a flaming torch that kindled desire. Witchcraft Dbq Essay more competence as an explanation due to evidence now being needed to prove someone guilty, there was still a aspect of psychological pressure towards obeying God and putting themselves forward for punishment in order to live a better afterlife. The religious theory surrounding witchcraft is centred on Reformation, which brought a challenge to Catholicism from Luther. By the 1550 s there were religious wars in Germany. Calvin went on further to attack Catholics and Calvinism spread throughout Europe as a result. At the end of the sixteenth century, Europe had been divided between Catholics and Protestants where England, Germany and the Netherlands were mostly protestant. Including the fact that religious change produced, conflict and even war especially in Germany and France which were also centres of witchcraft, suggesting the appearance of a link. Protestant priests preached things such as Thou shall not suffer a witch to live . They were keen to root out magic in all its forms because they associated it with catholic practices and superstition. There was confessional conflict as Hugh Roper sees witchcraft as being motivated by catholic and protestant desire to show godliness in a time of religious schism. The witch hunt cultivated feelings of moral superiority plus helped to remove or reduce feelings of guilt because of religious changes. This again can be a form of psychological projection, which is a type of defence mechanism. This involves individuals attributing their own unacceptable thoughts and motives to another person. Therefore, people scapegoated others if they had done something wrong to get rid of their own guilty conscience by making themselves believe the accused individual was in the ... • 9. Pros And Cons Of Confederate Statues Gersh Kentzman in the New York Daily News gave the reasonable and understandable reason of why the federate statues should be removed. He asked why there are no statues of Adolf Hitler in Berlin. Usually, the statues are to honor people who did something good to their country; someone who put his life in danger to save his country. Statues also are to honor people s service to the country. The Confederate statues are for people who divided the country and separated citizens according to their skin colors or their social classes. These confederate statues and monuments should be removed because those people did not do anything to build the country. The Confederate statues can easily remind the victims of civil war or slavery what they went through and how they were treated. Thus causes conflicts between them and those who made them went through what they went through. Mayor Landrew, who removed the statueof General Robert E. Leein South Carolina, said these statues... are not just innocent remembrances of a benign history. These monuments purposefully celebrate a fictional, sanite confederacy ignoring the death, ignoring the enslavement... The Confederate monuments and statues are just like a bad memory; nobody wants to keep remembering it; so why the U.S. should keep those bad men statues? The federate statues should be removed in the whole country because those men do not deserve any honor. The federate statues and monuments are there to teach us the history of our ... • 10. The Youth Through Prevention And Detection,... Abstract Juveniles navigate through a corrections system that is constantly changing. This research paper is dedicated to those that work with the youth through prevention and detection, rehabilitation, and establishing a future for juvenile justice. I will be focusing on what causes youth to become involved in the juvenile justice system, how we can help them get back on track and how to keep them moving forward in the right direction. In addition, the rehabilitation of the juveniles is fundamental to their success how it is determined whether they are eligible for rehabilitation services and how the methods are decided will be key to the final determination on success. Finally, through research on the various ways we currently educate and reprimand our youth, I will be identifying how effective we currently are and what we can do differently to become more effective. Sam, a four year old preschool student, has been identified as an at risk child after a referral from his teacher. The student exhibits anti social behaviors, temper tantrums and aggression toward students and teachers. How has the teacher come to the conclusion that this child was indeed at risk ? Who will this referral be sent to? How will this child be helped? Through studies on young children in a variety of structured settings, numerous factors have been identified that lead children to become offenders. Murray s nemesis and world No. 2 Novak Djokovic was defeated in the second round of the Australian Open. The Djoker has ruled the tournament Down Under, holding six titles and winning five of the last six finals at the event. Many, myself included, believed that Djokovic s return to the Grand Slam he has been most successful at would right his mental ship and return him to his championship form. Obviously, that wasn t the case. Denis Istomin, ranked 117th in the world, defeated the former world No. 1 7 6 (8), 5 7, 2 6, 7 6 (5), 6 4 in a MASSIVE Melbourne second round upset. Like all tennis matches, there are two sides with the outcome. To his credit, Istomin came to play and kept his foot on the gas throughout the match. You got to give him credit for that. Many things came together for him today. He s a well deserved winner. • 13. The Evolution Of Justice In AeschylusThe Oresteia The trilogy of Aeschylus The Oresteia follows a bloody feud within the House of Atreus. With this feud there are many boundaries that get crossed and challenged dealing with revenge and murder. A clear shift in justice is observed over the course of the three plays and Aeschylus shows that this shift in justice as an evolution that must happen to shape a society. The Oresteiaprovides a message that a society must come together to define justice in order to become unified and it must protect the interests of everyone and not just a single case or person. Agamemnonprovides two essential steps in the evolution of justice over these plays. The war in Troy is attributed to the abduction of Helen, upon which Agamemnon gathers his army to... The chorus exemplifies this plagued form of justice that continues to occur throughout the play in a cyclical manner by saying, Justice brings new acts of agony, yes, on new grindstones Fate is grinding sharp the sword of justice (Agamemnon 1564 1565). The retributive justice described by the chorus is extremely prominent throughout Agamemnon and provides a foundation for Aeschylus to show the change in justice from play to play in his trilogy. The Libation Bearers is a medial step in the evolution of justice in The Oresteia. When Orestes murders his mother Clytaemestra he exemplifies the justice imposed by the new gods which contradicts the principles in which the old gods ruled the land. Orestes is encouraged and aided by Apollo, a member of the new gods, the commit this matricide which opposes the will of The Furies, who believe in blood for blood justice. This is the first instance in which retributive justice is challenged because the higher authority is calling upon Orestes to carry out this act because they believe it is just. Orestes explains his feelings in The Libation Bearers when he says So he may come, my witness when the day of judgment comes, that I pursued this bloody death with justice, mother s death (978 981). • 14. Wife Of Bath Character Analysis Essay In our group, we drew the Wife of Bath, the Reeve, and the Monk, three characters richly described as physically and morally, quite different. The Wife of Bath, whose tale is later told in its entirety, stood out as a character in that she was so brazen and bold. She was described as beautifully gap toothed, promiscuous with husbandry, and so well practiced in the arts of love and sex that her profession should very well be wife. She dresses richly, reflecting her true talent as a professional seamstress, and her style is unique. Most of all, she is shrewd and intelligent, using her own body to get what she wants from her many husbands. For these reasons, though mainly based on looks, we have chosen Georgia May Jagger, daughter of Mick Jagger, and better known as the British model for Rimmel London makeup products. Georgia May Jagger is considered attractive by some, obviously, as she is a model. However, by modern standards, her strange accent and the large gap in her front teeth, much like the Wife of Bath, is now considered hideous. Decades ago it was not acceptable for a couple to have sex or live together before they were married. Today, it is common for couples to reside together, even before they are engaged. The rise of couples who cohabitate prior to marriagehas altered the way our society perceives marriage and relationships and led to a reformulation of the dating process. Despite the steady increase in cohabitation across the last several decades, research on its impact on marital outcome is mixed. Some research has suggested that people who cohabitate long term and do not plan to marry have lower relationship quality and less stable relationships. However, other research has indicated that these couples do not have lower quality relationships (Jose, O Leary, Moyer, 2010, p. 105). Couples who choose to cohabitate are comprised of varying demographic variables that may be a factor in their decision to cohabitate. White women are more likely to cohabitate than black or Hispanic women and white and black men are more likely to cohabitate than Hispanic men (Casper Bianchi, 2001, p. 155). Premarital cohabitation is associated with marital disruption in non Hispanic white women, but not non Hispanic black of Mexican women. However, little of this disruption appears to be attributed to differences in cohabitation (Phillips Sweeney, 2005, p. 297). Black and white couples had equivalent in their expectations for marriage; however, black couples were less likely to realize their expectations when cohabitating (Guzzo, 2009, p. 184). (CDC, 2015) Female ticks will die in the spring when her eggs burst from her body. These eggs will litter the forest floor and eventually hatch into 6 legged larvae in the summer. These larva then attach to much smaller mammals, such as field mice or small birds. Ticks spend as long as it takes, usually a few days at most, finding the perfect spot to latch on and begin feeding. The larva feed for a few days or until they are full and eventually drop off the host. With their appetite sated, larval ticks will now prepare for their next stage of life. This occurs over the course of the fall and winter time period as ticks burrow underground to retain warmth. They emerge in the spring, this time as 8 legged nymphs and the feeding cycle begins anew. This is also the period where lyme disease becomes an issue. While feeding on smaller animals, ticks contract the disease and they become carriers. They will transmit the disease as nymphs. Like the larvae, a nymph attaches to a larger mammal ranging from squirrels to human beings. Over the course of a few days, the nymph finds a spot to attach and feed. This happens over Spring and Summer. If they wait too long, the nymph will die of starvation. When sated once again, the nymph falls to the forest floor and prepares one more to proceed to the next stage of life. By Autumn, nymphs will have grown into adults. This is one of the more important stages simply because reproduction can now occur. Females will find a host in order to feed. Males find a host and a suitable mate. The male, once a mate is found, will fertilize as many females as it possibly can before dying. The females will continue to feed until they are full and eventually drop off. The general public deemed it weakness and a sign of duplicity to publish articles advocating both sides of the issue and dubbed the paper the swill tub (Sachsman, 2014, p. 53). A Virginia paper tried this tactic as well, to no avail. The attempt, however, on the part of any opposition paper to be simultaneously a Union journal and a Southern journal was becoming illogical if not well neigh impossible (Cappon, 1936, p.14). This explains why the majority took a side during the civil war, as no newspaper wanted to loose the core of their audience due to not taking sides. It is important to note that not all of the papers in this era were propagandist. The Enquirer was able to omit their opinions and write objectively about the war. Wise and his successors objectively reported the news rather than venting their dissatisfaction with Confederate s conduct of the war (Davis Robertson, 2009, p. 37). This should have been how all the papers of this era reported the war yet a backlash amongst the public contributed to a public outcry, which can be detrimental to a newspapers survival. • 33. For My Second Practicum, I Wrote Two Lesson Plans Because For my second practicum, I wrote two lesson plans because I wanted to allow my student to choose what book he wanted to read. I planned a shared reading lesson over The Story of Henny Penny by Richard Carson and an interactive reading lesson over I Think I Forgot by Mercer Mayer. Planning for two different books was not difficult, but I had to keep in mind that my student was only going to have the opportunity to read one of the books, and in the end, my student chose to read The Story of Henny Penny. After I planned the shared reading portion of the lesson, I planned a short writing activity where my student would have the opportunity to write down the three main events from the story. The teaching part of this lesson went in a totally different direction than I had planned. After the picture walk, my student showed a deep interest in trying to read the book out loud on his own, and I made the decision to let my student give the book a try. Since this book was a level above what my student s level, I figured that after a page or so he would want me to take over the reading. That is not what happened though. My student read the entire book on his own with minimal error! This slight change in my lesson plan meant that I was no longer teaching a shared reading lesson, but rather a guided reading lesson. After my student finished reading, we proceeded with the lesson I had planned. We discussed the story, what happened, what plot was, and then the plot of this story. Then he used the story cards to retell the story. I labeled clothes pins with numbers one through six and had them on a piece of yarn to symbolize that the events on the card happened in order to form a whole story. • 34. Dante s The Divine Comedy In the Divine Comedy, more specifically Inferno, Dante as a person changes. Dante Alighieri wrote the Divine Comedy in the early 1300s in his early 30s. In the beginning of the book Dante mentions being midway through his life. Now, Dante is a religious man, and has read the entire Bible. In the book of Psalms within the Bible, God says that a man s life is three score and a decade, or seventy years. Using this information, we can gather that Dante is 35 years old at the start of Inferno. In his Divine Comedy, Dante journeys through all the different levels of Hell with his guide Virgil keeping him safe and informed. There are nine circles of Hell, each descending into the next, with every lower circle containing a worse punishment for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the second circle, we have those who were lustful in life. The punishment for these sinners is to be constantly, violently tossed around by a massive storm, which prevents them from getting in the mood. Here we also see the ruins of Hell below the storm, the ruination caused by the coming of Jesus. When he came, it created a massive earthquake in Hell, which destroyed and damaged many parts of it. The third circle houses those who are guilty of Gluttony, or being so focused on habits and focusing on the wrong things in life that they ignored God. These people are forced to live in a very cold, very gross, putrescent slush. They are also constantly hunted by Cerberus, who either eats and digests them (as they are dead already, they survive this process) or crushes them under his massive weight. As mentioned earlier, each circle holds sinners that are considered worse than others. In this case, that means that God weighs poor habits as worse than Lust. Many people do not share this opinion, and by this time, few people consider Gluttony a sin at all. The circle of Lust is higher than the circle of Gluttony, which would give the impression that Gluttony is worse than Lust. Both sides can be argued, however. Seeing Lust as Gluttony makes sense, as, at first glance, it would seem that Lust would take over someone s life much easier than bad habits. However, it is also understandable to ... • 35. King Henry Iv Part II Diction In a very haunting soliloquy from King Henry IV part II by William Shakespeare the reader is enthralled with the thoughts of King Henry, who is in the despairing clutches of a very common chronic disorder named Insomnia. Through author s use of diction and imagery, we are able, as a reader, to fully understand his state of mind in such a sleep deprived and frustrating situation. Throughout the entirety of the soliloquy, the author, William Shakespeare, uses contrast as a form of imagery. When depicting settings in which sleep arrives and settings in which it does not, the reader can understand the king s thoughts. The author s diction is a reliable asset to the understanding of King Henry s emotions towards himself, who has Insomnia, and towards others who do not have such a disorder. At the beginning of the King s soliloquy, he questions sleep in a personifying manner. O gentle sleep! Nature s soft nurse, how have I frightened thee, makes it clear that King Henry feels himself is to blame for his lack of sleep and that sleep being a Nurse can cure him of his disorder. It also reflects his own frustration regarding the unresponsiveness of his sleep to come and claim him. As his soliloquy continues it becomes evident that he begins to feel indignation and a feeling of being wronged by sleep because others find it so easy to perform such action, while he struggles and gets nowhere. This can be backed up by the constant negative connotative words being used by the author when speaking of others who are able to sleep. For example, in line seven the author uses the word uneasy to describe the setting of a place where sleep is present for people, and in line thirteen, Shakespeare uses the word loathsome as a nab at the beds that are hardly any good yet are still able to provoke sleep. Essay about Conflict Resolution Conflict Resolution Many people enjoy working or participating in a group or team, but when a group of people work together chances are that conflicts will occur. Hazleton describes conflict as the discrepancy between what is the perceived reality and what is seen as ideal (2007). We enter into conflicts reluctantly, cautiously, angrily, nervously, confidently and emerge from them battered, exhausted, sad, satisfied, triumphant. And still many of us underestimate or overlook the merits of conflict the opportunity conflict offers every time it occurs (Schilling, nd.). Conflict does not have to lead to a hostile environment or to broken relationships. Conflict if resolved effectively can lead to a positive experience for everyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Keeping all these in mind can lead to the best solution to solve the conflict. Change and Expectations People do not always adjust well to change. Oftentimes when change occurs, conflict will arise. The new boss on the job or the new member of the team may be the change that brings a conflict. Expectations if not set clearly and held to standard can also lead to conflict among the team. Expectations must be set from the beginning. Expectations must also be clear and it must be verified that each team member understands the expectations. If a short coming on the expectations occurs, then action must be taken immediately. If no action is taken this could be understood as silent approval and team members will believe that the expectation is no longer important or required. When conflict does occur, the five models set out in The Thomas Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument sets the standards for resolving the conflict. Avoidance Avoidance is defined as an act or practice of avoiding or withdrawing from something (Merriam Webster.com). Avoidance may not be the answer if the conflict directly affects the team or the team s goal. Avoidance is usually used when the conflict is irrelevant, relationships are at stake, more important issues are pressing, when one party is more emotionally involved, or when more information is needed (Culbertson, 2000). Gordon Allport describes an in group as being a collection of people who use we with the same essential significance (Allport, 1994, p. 173). Allport is saying there is no hard definition of an in group, it is dependent on others to identify as part of this group. For one, the Scottish have trouble defining what Scottish culture is, this is because they joined the UK at a very early time. Because of this, much of Scottish culture has joined together with English culture. This could be seen when we were walking around Glasgow and saw many English Art and sculptures, as well as walking around the Holyrood house in Edenborough. And now that Scotlandmay break away from England, the people cling to fantasy and mystery, as well as their own accomplishments to create and define Scottish culture. In Glasgow, the Peoples Palace displayed many accomplishments of the cities people, all stating that they were the first to invent this and the first to do that. Instead of looking back, the city showed how it was progressive and urged its people to move forward. In Edenborough, the tour guide talked about how they were the first to invent skyscrapers and other architecture. Instead of talking about how the country moved forward as a whole, each city talked about how they moved forward and the people in it. Scotland has also clung to many mythological and fantasy ideals. Many people view zombies as a purely fictional creation with little purpose beyond merely providing entertainment for the duration of the movie. However, this view of zombies misses their true original purpose, a purpose which they still serve today. Zombies were not created as arbitrary fictional characters, but rather as monsters with meaning (Blumberg). Zombies serve as an outlet for people to process their biggest fears in the world around them. Zombies and the horror genre have become a modern cinematic expression of people s deepest fears, fears that evolve over time as people change. The general concept of zombies as we know them today originated in the 1910s with the silent French film J accuse. This film helped to show the horrors of the war and the pain inflicted upon the French people. To the modern viewer however, the view of zombies in this film would appear to be strange and very different monsters from what they are used to seeing. In fact, many people would not consider it a zombiemovie at all, but rather a movie that had many elements that later would contribute to the development of zombies. • 51. The Influence Of Jazz Music Jazz is one of few purely American art forms. Its creation came out of the southern United States and the social conditions associated with the relationship between the white and African American communities there (Larson 1). African American musicians in particular were the key proponents in the development of jazzin the early 20th century. The creation and shaping of jazz music came from a combination of the musical styles of spirituals, the blues, ragtime, and Western European classical music (Larson 37 38). Although jazz originated from these four styles, defining jazz itself cannot be done so plainly. Since its origin, jazz has continued to progress and branch out into a wide variety of musical styles and genres. At its root, jazz is about the individual expression of the musician (Larson 2). • 52. Definition Of Migration Of International Migration Literature review Definition of Migration International migration may be defined as movement of people from one country to another in order to take up employment, or establish residence or to seek refuge from persecution (IOM, 1993). Recognized authors (Appleyard, 1991; Rodgers, 1992; Abrar et.al., 2000) have categorized international migration into 6 broad categories. These are permanent settlers, documented or regular labour migrants, undocumented or irregular migrants, asylum seekers, recognized refugees and defacto refugees. Migration includes a variety of movement of people from one place to another, albeit characterized by different purposes that manifest itself in residency for specific periods ie., time and nature, like permanent, temporary, involuntary, legal or illegal. It is the purpose that distinguishes one kind of migration from another. Some migrate to settle permanently in the country of destination, some for employment purpose, while some even emigrate and seek asylum, escaping from prosecution or from disasters. Migrants who return home often contribute by being enterprising, innovative etc. by investing their expertise and savings. These skilled workers may launch new ventures in their countries and promote economic development. Some pass their expertise along to others as teachers or trainers.
