Achieving Project Goals Simulation The Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) contains the different
activities within a project. Every activity necessitates outputs from several experts following
different measures and timelines. The total of these activities represent the end deliverable. In order
to control the task effectively the project supervisor must track the logical order of the various

How to anticipate bottlenecks when planning for a project? The lack of communication within a

Haitian Culture Vs American Culture
Strength lies in differences, not in similarities Stephen R Covery. Living in two different
countries is an experience that is likely to open anyone mind. One raised in a smaller country,
then moved to a larger country mixed with multiple culture is an experience not to be taking for
granted. Full of hardships. Yet, despite lacking in the modern luxuries that are readily available in
the United States, they also live a vibrant life full of flavorful food, music, dance, ritual and

lot of variety of food but most of the time they boiled them before consumed. They are using spicy

refrigerator. While in Miami, you will find a combination of different food from different nation
such as Mexican, Italian, Chinese, Asian and Jamaican food. We cannot really say that Miami

Haitian music is called konpa . Konpa is a modern mГ©ringue musical genre in Haiti with

To conclude I ve been blessed to experience two different countries, although it wasn t easy I ve

Disadvantages Of Lettuce
LETTUCE
I decided to grow two different types of lettuce in the polytunnel. Lettuce is part of the
ASTERACEAE family. The P.H. in the soil has a reading of 7. This means it is alkaline and is
good ground for growing crops. It is recommended that a South facing site be used and that the site
has good drainage. There are four different varieties of Lettuce. They are:
Butterheads.
Cos and Semi Cos.
Crispheads.
Loose Leaf.
BUTTERHEADS:
Butterheads are soft and round with either flat or frilly leaves.
COS AND SEMI COS:
These are upright and more oval in shape with longer crisper leaves. They are known as
ROMAINE Lettuce.
CRISPHEADS:
The Crispheads have round, dence heads, and very crunchy leaves. When their outer leaves are
removed, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With Lettuce or any type of vegetable, it is recommended that you rotate the crop every year. This
will stop the spread of pests and diseases to other plants.
PESTS:
There are many pests that affect the lettuce. They are:
SLUGS
SNAILS
APHIDS
CUTWORMS
WIREWORMS
LEATHERJACKETS
SLUGS AND SNAILS:
These eat young leaves and bury into the heart of the Lettuce. According to TEAGASC the use of
hollowed out grapefruit or orange laid on the surface of the soil, will attract the slugs which can
then be destroyed .
APHIDS:
These feed on roots and may cause the plant to wilt. alphids are also known as Blackfly or Greenfly
. They fed on the sap and spread viruses between plants.
There are some ORGANIC treatments available such as PYRETHRUM, REFINED PLANT
OILS, and INSECTICIDIAL SOAPS. Ladybirds, lacewigs and other insects make natural predators.
Cutworms:
Cutworms feed on the roots of young plants and also on the leaves closest to the ground, so
weeding regularly reduces their choice of food.
LEATHERJACKETS:
They have no head or legs, but live in the soil. They eat roots and stems causing plants to wilt.
Starlings, Trushes and Blackbirds love them.

Building A Waddell A-Truss Bridge
Building a Waddell A Truss Bridge
Introduction:
Bridges have been used for thousands of years, beginning with natural formations, such as huge
rock arches (Appendix A). The first bridges made by humans were most likely simple spans of
wooden tree trunks laid across streams, or planks, such as rafts tied together (Gascoigne, 2001).
These simple designs evolved over time, as new materials became available, to form the hundreds
of bridges we use today. Some basic bridge designs include truss, arch, beam and suspension
bridges. The most basic of these is the beam bridge (Appendix B1), which consists of a deck,
spanning a relatively short distance, that is held up by a pair of abutments (vertical supports at
either end). When weight is placed on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that it excessively designed, and can create excessive burdens on the cost, size and
complexity (Sade, 2014). When designing large bridges, these three factors (excessive cost, size
and complexity) regulate if a bridge is built, or if a different design is chosen. The Waddell A
truss bridge (Appendix C) is a truss bridge designed by engineer John Alexander Low Waddell. It
was built in 1898, as a short span railway bridge, and is one of only two bridges remaining which
had the A truss design. Due to its high trusses, it is quite rigid in all directions, and it is easily
erected as it has a simple design (Syazwi, 2013). These are some of the reasons why the Waddell
a truss design was chosen. It is simple to create out of the materials which can be used (Manila
folders) as it consists of beams and bars, as well as some gusset plates (Appendix C). Not only
this, but the design allows it to hold quite a large amount of weight, in spite of the fact that a
folder is not necessarily strong. However when folded, it may be surprising how much a small
piece of card can actually hold. Manila folders were used to create this bridge because they are
inexpensive, easy to cut bend and glue, have surprisingly predictable structural behaviour and can
be used to build tubes, bars and strong

Why Wear A Skate Shoe
Introduction
Over the past two decades or so, skater fashion has nonchalantly strolled its way out of the
skateparks and into the mainstream. Because we are so used to seeing people wearing skate
shoes in everyday life, it is easy to forget that they play a pretty important role in the development
of a skater s arsenal. Whether you re a veteran of the half pipe or new to it all, read on to find the
best skate shoe for you.
Why Wear A Skate Shoe?
If you re just starting out in the world of skating, you may be a little skeptical about the difference
a pair of shoes can make. After all, doesn t skating encourage you to revolt against the status quo,
embrace your weirdness, and wear what you want? Yes, of course it does, but all of that... Show

Of course, owing to the high demands of skating, skaters tend to go through shoes at a rapid pace
anyway, but the most hardcore of skaters would find themselves replacing their skate shoes on an
almost daily basis were it not for the triple stitch.
Cupsoles Or Vulcanized?
Despite the fact millions of people believe they can determine one, there is no clear winner
between cupsole or vulcanized skate shoes. In the end, it comes down to which shoe is better for
you, which is determined by the kind of skating you want to do.
Cupsoles are the heavier, padded shoe of the two and generally provide greater shock absorption
and comfort. Owing to their ability to protect the foot and ankle, cupsoles are generally
recommended to skaters who plan to jump from high distances or perform a lot of aerials while on
the board. Cupsoles tend to last a little longer than their vulcanized counterparts.
While vulcanized skate shoes don t offer the padding of cupsoles, they do make it possible to
achieve greater control of your board, meaning they are perfect for tricks like grinds and slides.
Thinner and more flexible, they are most suited to those who plan to wear their skate shoes both in
and out of the park.
For those who are interested, a video comparison of a cupsole skate shoe and its vulcanized
alternative can be found below.

Understanding The New Kingdom Of Egypt
Understanding the New Kingdom of Egypt
Perhaps no other culture has intrigued the human imagination as that of ancient Egypt. From the
Ancient Greeks, who treated Egypt with venerable respect, to Alexander the Great, and Napoleon,
who felt it was imperative to go there, few other cultures have represented so much of universal
value to all humans. The purpose of this paper is to present a brief survey of the ancient New
Kingdom of Egypt. An emphasis on scholarly views will focus on culture, agriculture, Nubian
Pharaohs, religion, and war. Of particular interest is the manner in which this historical knowledge
is repeatedly made relevant in today s world.
Culture
Spanning approximately 1550 to 1070 BCE, the New Kingdom of Egypt represents a golden age,
one which was almost the opposite of the Middle Kingdom of Egypt in terms of its
accomplishments. Some of the most prestigious names of ancient Egypt come from this period, such
as Hatsetshup, the female pharaoh, Thutmose III, Ramses II, the last warrior pharaoh of the New
Kingdom, King Akhenaten, the sun worshipper, his beloved wife Nefertiti, and Tutankhamun, the
much celebrated boy king.
There is no probable way to estimate the amount of highly valued art and artifacts that have been
discovered and taken out of Egypt. Whether by contract, government arrangement or smuggling, the
allure of Egyptian art and culture has mesmerized every other culture that beheld it. Only the size of
the pyramids themselves, or the New Kingdom

The 1982 version of Dreamgirls showed a great deal of emotion, and power. The way the

important for Holliday to emphasis the emotion she was supposed to be feeling throughout the

acceptable to overdramatize a scene to ensure that the emotions the character should be feeling is
portrayed accurately. I don t feel that Holliday s style would work on film, because of the fact that
she over performs so much. While it is fine to do this in stage plays, seeing this

Food Manufacturers and Obesity: The Role of Food Corporations in America s Obesity Epidemic

Muscle Contraction Lab Report
Effects of Varying Lengths of Rana Pipiens Gastrocnemius on Tetanic Contraction
Joshua Porter, Sofia Tuttle, Yoniko Washington
TA: Ryan Hoffman
Abstract Muscles play an essential role in vertebrate life from maintaining posture and locomotion
to controlling the heart. Better understanding them is essential to better understanding life
processes. (2) In this experiment, the effects of muscle length on the tetanic contraction tension of
the gastrocnemius muscle of a rana pipiens were observed. It was hypothesized that the highest
tension would be observed at the equilibrium length as observed in peer reviewed sources. (3,4,5)
The independent variable was the length of the muscle and the dependent variable was the muscle
tension. This experiment was done on one rana pipiens. The tetanic muscle contraction was
observed by stimulating it with a current of 1.5 amps at a frequency 20 hz at various muscle
lengths. The active, passive, and total forces were then plotted against the length of ... Show more

To determine the current at which stimulation was maximal, the stimulator was set to 0 Amps
and the muscle was stimulated. Then the current was increased by 0.1 Amps and the muscle
and force chart were observed. This was repeated until the contraction force stopped increasing,
which in this case was at 1.5 Amps. Then the tetanus frequency was determined. First the current
was set to 1.5 Amps. Then, in the VI, the frequency was adjusted to 0 Hz, and the muscle
stimulated. The frequency is set by the Pulse and Period inputs, which signify the number of
pulses and the length of each pulse. So the frequency was increased accordingly and the results of
muscle stimulation were observed. The frequency was tested at 5 Hz (pulse = 5, period = 200), 10
Hz (pulse = 10, period = 100), and 20 Hz (pulse = 20, period = 200). At 20 Hz tetanus was
observed, so that was the frequency value used in

Racial Discrimination In The Police
While many members of the police force are being portrayed as racist, the media contributes to the
racial assumptions through various negative proclamations against officers. Newspapers, radio
stations, news channels, and other forms of media all decipher situations in any manner they deem
necessary in order to appeal to their target audiences. The various types of interpretations by the
media often includes negative portrayals of members of policedepartments by allowing them to
appear as racist, as well as murderous, individuals. Mark Aitken writes that officers are feeling
displeased with the media s coverage of law enforcement by only reporting the mistakes made
by policemen, which provides civilians with the idea that all law officers are only contributing to
society in a negative manner (Aitken). To further clarify, while many officers are responsible for
providing safety through various dangerous and complex tasks, there are numerous ways an
officer can be unsuccessful. While several members of law enforcement are put into violent
situations, they are often limited with the amount of time they have to make a decision. As a
result of this lack of time, as well as many other factors, many officers rely purely upon instinct
and reaction within their field of work. These instincts and reactions have allowed members of law
enforcement to make certain choices that can be perceived as errors. Regardless of the situation,
the media will only discuss the mistakes made by a

there were too many problems arose. Firstly, there was the lack of a clear goal. Eric had been

Moreover, all team members should share mutual interest in accomplishing the goal. However,

Women s Roles in Television

American households had a television set, but by the 1960 the figure had reached 90 percent.
During this time, women were introduced in a completely diverted way then a male actor. Women
took stereotypical roles such as the housewife, mother, maid or even nanny. While other women

Most people think it could never happen to them but experts estimate that everyone has at least a
40% chance of being in a crash that involves alcohol use sometime in their life. According to a
survey by Mothers Against Drunk Driving, drunken driving is the number 1 highway safety
problem. Some believe that better education, more police and higher penalties, the number of
alcohol related deaths and accidents can be reduced(madd).
Ever since the 1980s, the number of alcohol related injuries and fatalities on the roads have gone
down significantly. Yet, drunk driving is still one of the main causes of death and serious injury.
Between 93 and 96 , injuries in drunk driving accidents had begun to come up again. But in 1997
however, this reversed and there was another decrease in the number of injuries and deaths (study).
The next year in 1997, there were approximately 540 fatalities and over 16,000 injuries involving
drivers with a BAC over the legal limit (study). The sad part is that over half of those

Persuasive Effect On Plastic Surgery
Everyone at one point thinks about going under the knife, there was an 80% increase in the number
of girls 18 and younger receiving genital plastic surgery, according to the American Society for
Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (Simmons, 2016,para.3). Male and female teens, form ranges thirteen to
nineteen years of age, have thought or actually had done a plastic surgeryon their bodies. Even
though this procedure is overpriced and the recovery time takes long, at the end many patients
believe that the outcome is worth it since they perceive themselves more beautiful. Plastic surgery
has been getting popular among teens because is helping them raise their self esteem, lowering
their depression rate, and enhancing their beauty.
Many girls have low self esteem during their teen years when they start to grow into their
imperfect bodies . Most girls start comparing and contrasting their bodies with other girls, so they
start developing the thoughts of cosmetic procedures to maintain a high self esteem. Sweeney
(2009) argues that teens are seeking plastic surgery to look normal and feel like a woman . Even
though most teen girls are not fully developed, they are eager to do some cosmetic procedures on
themselves. Kristen of River Edge, N.J. said that she has been wanting breast implants since she
started puberty. She felt uneven and unattractive because she grew curves but her breast did not

My Virtual Child Is A Web Based Assignment On Raising A...
My Virtual Child was a web based assignment on raising a child based on real life scenarios and
answering questions that you are expected to answer as a real parent would. My assignment this
time starts with Link being 9 years old. At 9 Link began to consume allot of food. Eating and
snacking up to 9 times a day, I knew this was normal for his age. Most boys at 12 grow about 4
inches in height and put on 26 pounds every year once they begin puberty (Rogol, Roemmich,
Clark, 2002). We did our best to guide him into a healthy lifestyle, eating healthy and nutritious
foods along with encouraging him to continue with the swim and water polo teams. Because he
stuck with his sports as he got older, he received a full ride scholarship right out of high school.
He slowly began to show interest in the girls in his class. He began to hang out with them during
recess and lunch, sometimes even hanging out over the weekends. He however begin telling
harsh and disrespectful jokes that involved the physical changes of the many girls at his school
when he was around his male friends. His father took him aside one evening to speak about how
to treat a lady and when it s appropriate to become more involved with a girl. He made it clear to
Link that sexual interest was a real thing and not to be ashamed of, but is not permitted until he is
married to the girl as long as he still lives at home. At 15, Link began to distance himself from both
me and his dad. He would come right home from

Causes, Symptoms, And Treatments
Graves disease
Causes, symptoms, and treatments by Mary Smith
Graves disease is an immune system disorder that results in the overproduction of hormones
(hyperthyroidism). Many disorders may be a result in hyperthyroidism, Graves disease is the most
common cause.
Thyroid hormones affect many different body systems, signs and symptoms associated with
Graves disease can wide ranging and can influence your over all wellbeing. Graves disease may
affect anyone, it s more common among women and before the age of 40. Primary treatment goals
are to inhibit the overproduction of thyroid hormones and lesson the severity of the symptoms.
There are numerous signs that allude to the presence of Graves disease, most notably is a large
protruding bulb associated with the thyroid gland (goiter), changes in the menstrual cycle, bulging
eyes (Graves ophthalmopathy), and less common is Graves demopathy, or thick, red skin usually
found on the shins or tops of the feet.
One of the most telling symptoms of Graves disease presents in about 30% of those diagnosed
with the condition is Graves ophthalmopathy. Graves ophthalmopathy refers to bulging of the eyes,
exophthalmos, a gritty sensation in the eyes, pressure and/or pain in the eyes, puffy or retracted
eye lids, reddened or inflamed eyes, sensitivity to light, double vision, or outright vision loss. While
these signs are strongly associated with Graves disease, the symptoms do not associate solely with
the condition.

What Is The Story Of Saliva Dut
The most interesting thing about this book is that there are two parallel stories of South Sudan
in different time periods, and my favorite story was Salva s. In these few pages that we have
read about our amazing novel we can easily notice how plot is changing the main character s life
in a few days, due to many plot events. Salva Dut is the main character of the novel, his father
was a successful man in his village because he owned many head of cattle and he was the judge
of the village (a very respectful position). He has many brothers and one mom too. Many plot
events changed his way of living in a very few time, the shooting near the school and the group
leaving him behind in the barn are just a few examples. The most interesting fact

History of video games. Have you ever played a video game and wonder? How does this thing
work? Who invented it? Well you in luck because I have all the information that you need to tell
you about the history of video games. How video games have advance right along with
technology that we use in everyday life. If you ask people. When video games did first came
out? Most people would say in the 1970 s and they would be wrong. In 1958, William A.
Higinbotham, an engineer working for the United States government, came up with first game
played on a type of screen. It was a two player tennis game played on an oscilloscope, a piece of
electronic equipment with a 5 inch display . (The history of video games) In 1961, Steve Russell
developed the first game played on a computer called Spacewar . The game was a hit with people
but only a very few would really have the chance to enjoy it. The reason was because back then a
computer was the size of a car and very expensive this system cost about $120,000. Only about
fifty of these computer were ever sold. In the mid 1960 the Military wanted some sort of device
that would develop the reflexes of the military personnel. In 1966 Ralph Baer, an employee of
defense contractor Sanders Associates, addressed this demand when he came up with the concept
of a television gaming apparatus. (Miller) It took four more year to get a working system. When

An Unsupervised Child On The Internet
My mother had me when she was 42 years old, she is a traditional Mexican woman. She had
lived here in the U.S. for a long time my older siblings spent the majority of their childhood here.
By the time I was 12 all of my siblings had moved out. It was just my parents and I. At that time
we had a computer and I would go on it habitually, my parents never monitored what I was doing
or who I was speaking to. Mainly because they didn t know how, or they weren t aware of the
advances that technology brought into play. They weren t aware of the dangers that could arise
from leaving an unsupervised childon the internet. A large portion of parents fall into any of the
following categories, they re too busy to check their child s internet usage, they don t know how
to check their child s internet usage, or they simply believe that their child knows enough about
internet safety and they can just assume that their child will seek help to parents if anything were
to occur. Modern day America revolves around technology, so it is easy to believe that a majority
if not most parents know the dangers of the internet when it comes down to their children being
able to access it. In some cases parents believe that their child couldn t be susceptible to the
dangers of child predators online. They often trust that their child will come to them in any
problem. Realistically that could fail in so many ways, children are easily mislead. Yes, it is

Causes Of Twenty First Century Stock Market Volatility Essay
Causes of Twenty First Century Stock Market Volatility based on the Introduction of the Internet
and Day Trading Since the late 1980 s the United States has observed several housing market
bubbles and subsequent collapses (Calabria 2011, p. 552). Also, the country has also observed a
profound increase in the trading of technologies stock (Sabherwal, Sarkar, and Zhang, 2011, p.
1210). In addition, the development of day trading has taken control of nearly half of the stock
trading industry (Chou, Wang, and Wang, 2014, p. 403). As a result, the traditional methods of
company share value evaluation no longer provide an accurate estimate of company value
(Rosenblatt and Gawronski, 2004, p. 118). The introduction of twenty first century technologies and
stock trading opportunities have created an increasingly volatile stock marketdue to the usage of the
internet for day trading.
Background
From 1990 to 2010 several factors contributed to the volatility of stock trading. The housing booms
of the late 1980 s, late 1990 s and early 2000 s demonstrated that an inelasticity in housing supply
coupled with a large increase in technologies and securities stock trading creates an unstable market
which results in a housing bubble collapse (Calabria, 2011, p. 556). Second, the introduction of the
internet resulted in 24 hour trading opportunities with open to open pricing often reflecting much
more volatile price deviation than close to close pricing, which had remained a neutral

Samba De Coco Analysis
Focusing on the study of Samba de Coco (a Brazilian folkloric dance originally from the northern
region), Ethnographer Daniel Sharp analyses throughout his book two musical groups of the
twenty first century. Mr. Sharp decided to closely analyze them both was because they were
directly related to the reawaking process after a political transition from a military regime to
democratic. Both groups are from the city of Arcoverde, a small city in the backlands of the state of
Pernambuco(Northeast of Brazil). Coco RaГzes incorporates some African characteristics in its,
while Cordel do Fogo Encantado has a more aggressive and cosmopolitan style adding multiple
musical genres within. After the post authoritarian period, the two groups had the... Show more

Thus, the group quickly became well known in Brazil for its musical fragmentation gathering
multiple musical genres. After several TV appearances, the media started paying close attention to
the economic situation in Arcoverde, a situation that could take years to be fixed due to the change
of political regime. Indeed, their apocalyptic musical style criticizing poverty, violence, and drought
was a fragmented and declamatory way of seeing the future through the lens of the past, in other
words, they incorporated national and regional themes within the negative aesthetics of Death
Metal (Sharp 2014). Sharp, then, explained that Coco RaГz had two ironic representation: one is
the mud hut replica used as a museum; this iconic representation was built after Lula Calixto s
death (founder of the group Coco Raiz), Lula died of Chagas disease, a disease generalized at the
time due to the mud hut houses as it is a propitious place for the procreation of the triatomine bug.
Another ironic observation made by Sharp is seeing Coco RaГzes working to spread their afro
Brazilian musical form and making it predominant in a white and mestiço interior backlands.
Coco RГЎizes was using the past to argue in present trying to create a better future. The author
does not go into translation details sometimes, therefore it becomes difficult to understand what he
is trying to say. Another critic in this book would be Sharp s methodology, he did not want to learn
how to play Samba de Coco, instead he wanted to analyze the two groups as a journalist, for he felt
that asking too much for musical instructions would somehow affect his relationship with the
musicians. Nevertheless, having a practicing experience, not just

Quebec nationalism began to pose significant challenges to Canadian confederation following the
October crisis of 1970. It is proposed the events that occurred during the October Crisis solidified
the separatist efforts of the Parti QuГ©bГ©cois and later contributed to a referendum question on

To begin, this paper will first address the causation of the 1970 October Crisis and the origins of
Quebec autonomy through separation. Going back to the election of Jean Lesage and the Quiet
Revolution in 1960 s, it marked a period in which provincial autonomy would inspire nationalism.
Elected under the phrase It s time for a change , Jean Lesage would implement an attitude of high
modernism that saw the secularization of industry, education and healthcare. By extension of the
high modernist attitude, projects such as the nationalization of Quebec Hydro also saw the
construction of large scale projects furthering provincial autonomy through job creation and wealth.
The Hydro Quebec project under Minister Rene Levesque would become an important symbol in
QuГ©bec by showing the ingenuity of the QuГ©bГ©cois to complete such an ambitious project .
Through the strengthening of a QuГ©bГ©cois identity during the Quiet
Revolution,iIt would further motivate existing nationalist organizations to push the provincial
government for greater independence. Separatist groups such as the Ralliement National, CSN and
Front de Liberation du QuГ©bec began as municipal and grassroots organizations advocating for
greater provincial autonomy through separation. These separatist groups were also driven by a
suppression of French identity by an English minority in the province, issues of economic
inequality and bilingualism further motivated francophone

Compare And Contrast Tsunami And Tsunami
Tsunamis are devastating natural disasters which have huge impacts on population. They are series
of fast travelling ocean waves of extremely long length and occurs in coastal areas. The word
Tsunami comes from two Japanese words meaning harbour wave .
Tsunami waves are extremely rapid ocean waves. Although Tsunamis are commonly known as
tidal waves, they are actually unrelated to tidal activities. Tsunamis are more common around the
Pacific Ocean because of earthquakes and volcanic eruption in the ring of fire. Each year on
average, two tsunamis occur around the world. In many ways, Tsunamis are similar to regular
waves as they aren t just moving water, they are energy moving through water. The difference is
how this energy is formed. Normal ocean waves come from the wind. On the other hand, Tsunamis
are caused by energy originating underwater from earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides or
meteorite crashes. These underwater activities release massive amounts of energy into the surface
which then displaces water, raising it above the average sea level. The waves try escaping, but
gravity pulls it back down and makes the energy spread out horizontally. This is when the Tsunami
starts heading to the shore. Once a tsunami wave is born, there s no stopping it since the energy
generated is massive. When one set of tsunami wave reaches the shoreline, the others catch up
due to the compressed energy. These series of waves are called Tsunami wave trains . It is stated
that tsunamis sound like standing near a moving freight train. They can travel approximately
700 km/h, faster than a flying jet plane. The waves reach up to about 30 m on average. Although
this is very high, there can be waves at a much higher level. They are called Mega Tsunamis .
Mega Tsunamis can reach the height of more than 250 m and are usually caused by landslides or
large volcanic eruptions. When Tsunamis start to reach the shore, they slow down in speed but
increase in height rapidly. Tsunamis are deadly so it is crucial to watch out for different signals.
There are tsunami warning systems attached to the buoys in the sea that transmits data and work as
a warning system. There are a few other warnings the ocean sends just before the

Irrationality In Lord Of The Flies
Going insane from fear can be a lethal problem. William Golding s Lord of the Flies can attest to
situations implying the theme of fear. As the only survivors of a mysterious plane crash on a

The articles referenced are just a few examples of other reader s opinions. Perhaps Golding was
using his book to communicate ways fear has impacted his life. William Golding expresses his
versions of fear in the novel, Lord of the Flies, with examples of irrationality, good vs. evil, and
the unspoken consequences pertaining to the after effects of fear. The irrational state one enters
when inundated with fear might have been an example of someone Golding knew. The biblical
allusion detected in the novel is just a real life version of what takes place in the Bible. The evil
side taking aggressive actions while the heroic or good side thinks the situation through in its
entirety. The consequences from fearing something that just cause more fear and is a rough scene

view, in Lord of the Flies, William Golding is entertaining readers while communicating the
message that one should not be scared or fearful of something they are unsure of because only more

The, Moral, And Moral Relativism
On the perfectionist account there exists an established categorization of the moral status of
conscious persons or beings. The moral perfectionist maintains that morality is hierarchical, which
is to say that they hold that differentially weighted considerations should be given to different
beings depending on the level to which they possess certain characteristics. For example,
throughout the history of western philosophy one of the most popularly touted of the
characteristics of higher order moral agents has been the possession of formal language. Consider,
then, the non humananimal from this perspective from a Heideggarian perspective, if you will.

It is meant to show that animality is the metaphysical candle which casts a shadow over whatever
being is to be made morally incomparable to the Human. To substantiate this claim we can consider
that from the historical perspective, the subjugation of humans from women, slaves, the cognitively
and physically disabled, to the ethnic or religious minority has been accompanied by attempts to
ensure that they are animalized . By attempts to ensure that they are excluded from the moral
community a delegation attributed to their lack of the fundamental features or qualities of moral
agents. Fortunately, though not necessarily consistently, in the Western liberal modernity, such
animalized individuals have come to be afforded the same rights as other members of the human
community, despite their lack of many of the qualities which have typically been used to affirm the
moral importance of a human being. Again, although this is a fortunate transition, it is rather
inconsistent one if we are to reflect on the ways in which we typically distinguish the Animal from
the Human. Indeed, if we are to suggest that all humans have some sort of inherent rights either
ascribed or discovered it does not seem unreasonable to suggest that such possessions must be
predicated on the presence or absence of

performed in most corners of the world; it s objective is to develop and carry out a method of
ascending a rock face, be it with tools, by hand, with protection, or without. For most people, it
is a game to be played for the hell of it; for the majority, it is a social environment that connects
people of all ethnicities and ages; for some, it s a direct connection to the beauty of the outdoors;
for few, it s a way of acquainting oneself with fear; for a minority, it is a masochistic drive; and
for me, it is all of the above. Although all of these general reasons motivate climbers in their
everyday ambitions, the source of their passion is as obscure as the virgin stone itself. From what
I ve learned, there are endless ways to answer this age old question, but three of them stood out the
most: to find purpose, to find community, and to find what is elusive. With death being an
inevitable conclusion to life, it can be said that the true value of a life is not determined by how
long it was lived or what was done during its time, but from what it left behind. In a sport of
pushing the physical and psychological boundaries, climbers seek recognition in their
achievements, whether it is by finding a new climb that will measure its test of time or being the
first to climb a daunting line

American Free Trade Agreement ( Nafta )
The purpose of this memorandum is for Monet s Treats to consider doing business globally with
Mexico first. This expansion will broaden its culture, expertise and ethics as well as entering into
new, potentially profitable market segments. Monet s Treats were created in 2005 in a small home
kitchen in West Orange, New Jersey. Throughout the last ten years they have continuously
experienced an annual five percent each year. After receiving a few inquires over the last 2 years
between Mexicoand Japan, Monet should fully consider expanding to Mexico as a stepping stone
to full global expansion. Addressing the aspects of U.S. laws, legal and ethical implications that
are involved with this decision will allow Monet s Treats to properly... Show more content on

Unless the good is processed by the importer or on its behalf, the outermost container of the good
shall be marked in accord with this part (Bestfoods v. United States, 1999). Foreign Corrupt
Practices Act (FCPA) and Security Exchange Act will also be in consideration for Monet s Treats
expansion. The FCPA is in place to keep accounting data in transparent environment. The FCPA
requirements fall under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, which is another concerning bribery
of foreign executives. Mead Johnson Nutrition was charged by Security Exchange Commission
(SEC) for its Chinese subsidiary making improper payments to health care professionals at
government owned hospitals in exchange to recommend the company s infant formula to patients
who were new or expecting mothers (McKean, 2015). It was discovered that employees funded the
payments through distributor allowance funds, which were paid to third party distributors who
market, sell, and distribute the company s products in China. Although the funds contractually
belonged to the distributors, employees still have some control over how the money was spent
and provided specific advice to distributors on how to use the funds. A full case wasn t developed
due to an agreed settlement for a payment of $12 million to SEC s finding that they violated the
Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).

The Importance Of Learning A Foreign Language
Out of my six year career as a teacher, I could observe that learning a foreign language by relying
only on the conventional teaching strategies will lead to little or no result. Departing from the
repetitive grammar translation method to other innovative approaches helped me attain a certain
level of motivation and interest from my students in learning ESL. Likewise, as a Fulbright FLTA, I
would adopt the same trajectory in teaching Arabic to non native speakers in order to improve the
students acquisition of the target language. One of the approaches that I currently implement in my
classroom is giving my students an immersive and interactive learning experience. It is undeniable
that full immersion in the target language can be quite problematic seeing that as soon as the
learners leave the school setting, they are once again surrounded by their native language. For this
reason, I endeavor to gain insights into the student learning attitude from off class communications
with them in the hope of bringing something new for each lesson. Should I be given the opportunity
to teach Arabic at US universities, I would persuade my students to step out of the traditional
learning setting by visiting Arabic speaking families and interacting with them, or encouraging
them to get involved in events held by Arabs living in the area. As an FLTA, I will be ready to offer
students uncommon access to target languages by hosting cooking sessions, cultural presentations,
and other

Harmful Militant Activism in Black Bird Essay
I believe there are two types of activism, one which constitutes confrontational action to get their
point across, using only peaceful and educated means, and one which constitutes a policy of
direct militant action to achieve a social or political goal. In the novel Black Bird, Michel
Basilieres suggests that activism, displayed by the FLQ, is one of ethnic narrow nationalism
which promotes violence and disruption of the civil peace for a cause that they, the FLQ, feel
would produce a more egalitarian society. Although this is an option and a belief for some, there is
an alternative. This alternative is one used in the current aspect of activism in which globalism and
capitalism is fought. The means of this activism are that of peaceful... Show more content on

The book further touches on the abilities of Marie to be narrow minded and ultra nationalistic
when she goes to a book store to buy her brother a Christmas gift. Although the book store is
labeled in French and every sign around and in it are French Marie cannot be comfortable. She
finds in her to even hate the people in the store looking at the English books, it gave her the
creeps (Basilieres 119). She goes on to describe the readers as opium smokers: calm [and]
contented (Basilieres 119) almost giving the reader the thought that she likes there to be the
opposite, chaos. I believe Marie is also depicted as a heartless and cruel person. Heartless and cruel
when she realizes the diplomat was afraid of her (Basilieres 245) and when he pleaded and cried
for release she struck him. (Basilieres 250) She was even more cruel and heartless when she
beat him with her free hand, twisting the chain (Basilieres 263) and asking where s god now.
(Basilieres 263) She was incapable of sympathy (Basilieres 264) and she performed the act as
coldly as drowning an unwanted kitten. (Basilieres 264) Marie is not as hard line as some of the
other members of her cell, like Hubert whom she feels she owes to do what he would have done
after his death, in that she is touched by her mothers sorrow over the loss of her father and it is
this human side of her that drives her to leave the house in order to deal with what she

The Importance of the Family in Louisa May Alcott Little...
Many times people are asked to think about what is important to them. A person may say their
home, car, children, material items and some may even say family. In the book Little Women
(1868 1869) written by Louisa May Alcott illustrates several family values. The story of the
March family starts out during the civil war in New England. The family is left to survive on their
own because their father went to protect his country. During the years of life the March children,
Margaret (Meg), Josephine (Jo), Beth and Amy, had to face the fact that they were very poor, and
couldn t have everything that they fancied. As the family stayed home and awaited the return of
their father they received fatherly support from an old neighbor Mr.... Show more content on

Rich or poor, we will keep together and be happy in one another (43). So when the March s had a
way to get money they refused because family is important. They knew that family was far more
important than riches. Many times during the young girls life several lessons were taught. Meg
and Jo were several years older then both Beth and Amy and when it came time for the two to do
grown up things and Amy was not allowed to do so, she got angry and told Jo that she would be
sorry for leaving her out. As Jo enjoyed the theater Amy burned her manuscript, for Jo loved to
write and had several stories written in a book which she called her manuscript. Upon returning
Jo discovered that her joy was destroyed and felt she could never forgive Amy for what she had
done. Once again Marmee being wise in her years told Jo, don t let the sun go down upon your
anger; forgive each other, help each other, and begin tomorrow (88). With this advice it helped Jo
forgive Amy and helped her though out the rest of her life when she was known to be very short
tempered. With this advice family forgets all wrongs and helps each other on the road of life. Not
only Marmee contributes to the family in her own subtle way. The children taught their own lessons
to the family as time goes on. At the beginning of the story the children are talking about Christmas
and realizing that there won t be any presents that year, and at this

Summary Of Le Fresne And Bisclavret
As seen with the first two lais, Guigemar and Equitan , Marie uses the lais to express her opinions
on righteous and unrighteous love. However, unlike Guigemar and Equitan , the next two lais in
her collection, Le Fresne and Bisclavret , are not as straightforward in their approaches to righteous
and unrighteous love. Whereas in Equitan there was the warning that those who resemble the
king should take warning of his end, in Le Fresne and Bisclavret there is not such a didactic
lesson on the morality or immorality of love. Instead, Marie utilizes the slightly convoluted
natures of the next two lais to surprise the readers with the outcomes of the stories and to further
emphasize the complicated nature of love. In order to more easily draw on the comparisons
between Le Fresne and Bisclavret , the lais will be broken up into how the relationships begin,
how the lovers face trials, and how the relationships reach their final outcomes. Romantic
relationships are not the only type of loving relationships that Marie discusses in her lais. As is
the case with the third lai, Le Fresne , the main romantic relationship does not appear until a third
of the way into Marie s telling of the lai. While the romantic relationship is essential to the story
and drives the plot onward for the final two thirds of the telling, there are other relationships that
are equally important to discuss in order to learn the full scope of what Marie de Francedefines as
love,

Social Norms Of Social Identity
Social identities have a lot of significance on people s lives today. People have adopted these
norms of behaviors, the values and beliefs which come along with social identities. Various groups
within the society have different expectations and standards of behavior which are now seen as a
completely natural thing rather than just beliefs. There are different norms of social identities
which include the race/ethnicity, religion, class, gender and sexuality. This paper will focus more
on the class and gender social identities.
In my culture, the main two social identities which are considered the most are gender and class.
They highly contribute on how different categories of people are perceived in the society and
this determines the how people relate in the society. Looking at gender, people believe that the
difference in gender is connected to different responsibilities. The way ladies are treated is
different from the way men are treated in the society. This is according to what people strongly
believe about gender difference and as a result, different people are valued differently in
different situations. Not only that, there are also different expectations from each gender.
Looking at the responsibilities aspect, there are jobs which are considered to be suitable for men
while others are seen to be suitable for women. This is not because the women cannot do the jobs
which are perceived to be suitable for men, bit it is simply because these jobs are perceived to be
manly. For instance, most of engineering jobs are said to be manly. Engineering is mostly... Show

believes that men have many responsibilities as compared to women and that s why they are paid

job as

Ethical Issues Of Social Media
Ethical Issues in Social Media
Emerging Information Technologies are faced with numerous ethical issues. One of the most
centers of ethical debate in Information Technology is social networks. Social networking has
changed from a niche phenomenon to mass adoption. Although the concept of social networking
was formulated in the 1960s, the advent of fast internet has sent the concept viral. Currently, social
networks have been dogged with myriad ethical issues. Privacy issues are the epicenter of these
ethical issues. Some of the ethical problems that have emanated from social networks include
hacking, stalking, credit card theft, and social network identity theft. Resultantly, most of social
media users are haunted by the dilemmas such as how much personal information to put on social
media, how they can control the audience of their profiles, and whether the information they delete
from their profiles is well disposed of. This paper highlights the social network technology, and the
ethical issues associated with it.
Describing Social Network The concept of social networking was coined back in the 1960s when
the University of Illinois launched a Plato computer based education tool (Gross Acquisti, 2005).
Social network is founded on the idea that there is a predictive structure in which people know
each other either directly or indirectly. Social networking technology works on notions such as six
degrees of separation which states that everyone on earth is separated from

  • 8. Building A Waddell A-Truss Bridge Building a Waddell A Truss Bridge Introduction: Bridges have been used for thousands of years, beginning with natural formations, such as huge rock arches (Appendix A). The first bridges made by humans were most likely simple spans of wooden tree trunks laid across streams, or planks, such as rafts tied together (Gascoigne, 2001). These simple designs evolved over time, as new materials became available, to form the hundreds of bridges we use today. Some basic bridge designs include truss, arch, beam and suspension bridges. The most basic of these is the beam bridge (Appendix B1), which consists of a deck, spanning a relatively short distance, that is held up by a pair of abutments (vertical supports at either end). When weight is placed on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means that it excessively designed, and can create excessive burdens on the cost, size and complexity (Sade, 2014). When designing large bridges, these three factors (excessive cost, size and complexity) regulate if a bridge is built, or if a different design is chosen. The Waddell A truss bridge (Appendix C) is a truss bridge designed by engineer John Alexander Low Waddell. It was built in 1898, as a short span railway bridge, and is one of only two bridges remaining which had the A truss design. Due to its high trusses, it is quite rigid in all directions, and it is easily erected as it has a simple design (Syazwi, 2013). These are some of the reasons why the Waddell a truss design was chosen. It is simple to create out of the materials which can be used (Manila folders) as it consists of beams and bars, as well as some gusset plates (Appendix C). Not only this, but the design allows it to hold quite a large amount of weight, in spite of the fact that a folder is not necessarily strong. However when folded, it may be surprising how much a small piece of card can actually hold. Manila folders were used to create this bridge because they are inexpensive, easy to cut bend and glue, have surprisingly predictable structural behaviour and can be used to build tubes, bars and strong ... Because we are so used to seeing people wearing skate shoes in everyday life, it is easy to forget that they play a pretty important role in the development of a skater s arsenal. Whether you re a veteran of the half pipe or new to it all, read on to find the best skate shoe for you. Why Wear A Skate Shoe? If you re just starting out in the world of skating, you may be a little skeptical about the difference a pair of shoes can make. After all, doesn t skating encourage you to revolt against the status quo, embrace your weirdness, and wear what you want? Yes, of course it does, but all of that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of course, owing to the high demands of skating, skaters tend to go through shoes at a rapid pace anyway, but the most hardcore of skaters would find themselves replacing their skate shoes on an almost daily basis were it not for the triple stitch. Cupsoles Or Vulcanized? Despite the fact millions of people believe they can determine one, there is no clear winner between cupsole or vulcanized skate shoes. In the end, it comes down to which shoe is better for you, which is determined by the kind of skating you want to do. Cupsoles are the heavier, padded shoe of the two and generally provide greater shock absorption and comfort. Owing to their ability to protect the foot and ankle, cupsoles are generally recommended to skaters who plan to jump from high distances or perform a lot of aerials while on the board. Cupsoles tend to last a little longer than their vulcanized counterparts. While vulcanized skate shoes don t offer the padding of cupsoles, they do make it possible to achieve greater control of your board, meaning they are perfect for tricks like grinds and slides. Thinner and more flexible, they are most suited to those who plan to wear their skate shoes both in and out of the park. For those who are interested, a video comparison of a cupsole skate shoe and its vulcanized alternative can be found below. https://youtu.be/XUsMWLak2PE Skate

From the Ancient Greeks, who treated Egypt with venerable respect, to Alexander the Great, and Napoleon, who felt it was imperative to go there, few other cultures have represented so much of universal value to all humans. The purpose of this paper is to present a brief survey of the ancient New Kingdom of Egypt. An emphasis on scholarly views will focus on culture, agriculture, Nubian Pharaohs, religion, and war. Of particular interest is the manner in which this historical knowledge is repeatedly made relevant in today s world. Culture Spanning approximately 1550 to 1070 BCE, the New Kingdom of Egypt represents a golden age, one which was almost the opposite of the Middle Kingdom of Egypt in terms of its accomplishments. Some of the most prestigious names of ancient Egypt come from this period, such as Hatsetshup, the female pharaoh, Thutmose III, Ramses II, the last warrior pharaoh of the New Kingdom, King Akhenaten, the sun worshipper, his beloved wife Nefertiti, and Tutankhamun, the much celebrated boy king. There is no probable way to estimate the amount of highly valued art and artifacts that have been discovered and taken out of Egypt. It was hypothesized that the highest tension would be observed at the equilibrium length as observed in peer reviewed sources. (3,4,5) The independent variable was the length of the muscle and the dependent variable was the muscle tension. This experiment was done on one rana pipiens. Racial Discrimination In The Police While many members of the police force are being portrayed as racist, the media contributes to the racial assumptions through various negative proclamations against officers. Newspapers, radio stations, news channels, and other forms of media all decipher situations in any manner they deem necessary in order to appeal to their target audiences. The various types of interpretations by the media often includes negative portrayals of members of policedepartments by allowing them to appear as racist, as well as murderous, individuals. Mark Aitken writes that officers are feeling displeased with the media s coverage of law enforcement by only reporting the mistakes made by policemen, which provides civilians with the idea that all law officers are only contributing to society in a negative manner (Aitken). To further clarify, while many officers are responsible for providing safety through various dangerous and complex tasks, there are numerous ways an officer can be unsuccessful. While several members of law enforcement are put into violent situations, they are often limited with the amount of time they have to make a decision. As a result of this lack of time, as well as many other factors, many officers rely purely upon instinct and reaction within their field of work. Being intoxicated impairs ones judgment, vision and reaction time, all of which is critical when operating any motor vehicle. Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for Americans aged 6 27 and alcohol is a big factor to those numbers (jstor). Every 20 minutes, someone will die in an alcohol related traffic accident. Most people think it could never happen to them but experts estimate that everyone has at least a 40% chance of being in a crash that involves alcohol use sometime in their life. According to a survey by Mothers Against Drunk Driving, drunken driving is the number 1 highway safety problem. Some believe that better education, more police and higher penalties, the number of alcohol related deaths and accidents can be reduced(madd). Ever since the 1980s, the number of alcohol related injuries and fatalities on the roads have gone down significantly. Yet, drunk driving is still one of the main causes of death and serious injury. Between 93 and 96 , injuries in drunk driving accidents had begun to come up again. But in 1997 however, this reversed and there was another decrease in the number of injuries and deaths (study). My Virtual Child was a web based assignment on raising a child based on real life scenarios and answering questions that you are expected to answer as a real parent would. My assignment this time starts with Link being 9 years old. At 9 Link began to consume allot of food. Eating and snacking up to 9 times a day, I knew this was normal for his age. Most boys at 12 grow about 4 inches in height and put on 26 pounds every year once they begin puberty (Rogol, Roemmich, Clark, 2002). We did our best to guide him into a healthy lifestyle, eating healthy and nutritious foods along with encouraging him to continue with the swim and water polo teams. Because he stuck with his sports as he got older, he received a full ride scholarship right out of high school. He slowly began to show interest in the girls in his class. He began to hang out with them during recess and lunch, sometimes even hanging out over the weekends. Causes Of Twenty First Century Stock Market Volatility Essay Causes of Twenty First Century Stock Market Volatility based on the Introduction of the Internet and Day Trading Since the late 1980 s the United States has observed several housing market bubbles and subsequent collapses (Calabria 2011, p. 552). Also, the country has also observed a profound increase in the trading of technologies stock (Sabherwal, Sarkar, and Zhang, 2011, p. 1210). In addition, the development of day trading has taken control of nearly half of the stock trading industry (Chou, Wang, and Wang, 2014, p. 403). As a result, the traditional methods of company share value evaluation no longer provide an accurate estimate of company value (Rosenblatt and Gawronski, 2004, p. 118). The introduction of twenty first century technologies and stock trading opportunities have created an increasingly volatile stock marketdue to the usage of the internet for day trading. Background From 1990 to 2010 several factors contributed to the volatility of stock trading. The housing booms of the late 1980 s, late 1990 s and early 2000 s demonstrated that an inelasticity in housing supply coupled with a large increase in technologies and securities stock trading creates an unstable market which results in a housing bubble collapse (Calabria, 2011, p. 556). Mr. Sharp decided to closely analyze them both was because they were directly related to the reawaking process after a political transition from a military regime to democratic. Both groups are from the city of Arcoverde, a small city in the backlands of the state of Pernambuco(Northeast of Brazil). Thus, the group quickly became well known in Brazil for its musical fragmentation gathering multiple musical genres. After several TV appearances, the media started paying close attention to the economic situation in Arcoverde, a situation that could take years to be fixed due to the change of political regime. Indeed, their apocalyptic musical style criticizing poverty, violence, and drought was a fragmented and declamatory way of seeing the future through the lens of the past, in other words, they incorporated national and regional themes within the negative aesthetics of Death Metal (Sharp 2014). Sharp, then, explained that Coco RaГz had two ironic representation: one is the mud hut replica used as a museum; this iconic representation was built after Lula Calixto s death (founder of the group Coco Raiz), Lula died of Chagas disease, a disease generalized at the time due to the mud hut houses as it is a propitious place for the procreation of the triatomine bug. Another ironic observation made by Sharp is seeing Coco RaГzes working to spread their afro Brazilian musical form and making it predominant in a white and mestiГ§o interior backlands. Coco RГЎizes was using the past to argue in present trying to create a better future. The author does not go into translation details sometimes, therefore it becomes difficult to understand what he is trying to say. Another critic in this book would be Sharp s methodology, he did not want to learn how to play Samba de Coco, instead he wanted to analyze the two groups as a journalist, for he felt that asking too much for musical instructions would somehow affect his relationship with the musicians. Going back to the election of Jean Lesage and the Quiet Revolution in 1960 s, it marked a period in which provincial autonomy would inspire nationalism. Elected under the phrase It s time for a change , Jean Lesage would implement an attitude of high modernism that saw the secularization of industry, education and healthcare. • 34. Compare And Contrast Tsunami And Tsunami Tsunamis are devastating natural disasters which have huge impacts on population. They are series of fast travelling ocean waves of extremely long length and occurs in coastal areas. The word Tsunami comes from two Japanese words meaning harbour wave . Tsunami waves are extremely rapid ocean waves. Although Tsunamis are commonly known as tidal waves, they are actually unrelated to tidal activities. Tsunamis are more common around the Pacific Ocean because of earthquakes and volcanic eruption in the ring of fire. Each year on average, two tsunamis occur around the world. In many ways, Tsunamis are similar to regular waves as they aren t just moving water, they are energy moving through water. The difference is how this energy is formed. Normal ocean waves come from the wind. On the other hand, Tsunamis are caused by energy originating underwater from earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides or meteorite crashes. These underwater activities release massive amounts of energy into the surface which then displaces water, raising it above the average sea level. The waves try escaping, but gravity pulls it back down and makes the energy spread out horizontally. This is when the Tsunami starts heading to the shore. Once a tsunami wave is born, there s no stopping it since the energy generated is massive. When one set of tsunami wave reaches the shoreline, the others catch up due to the compressed energy. These series of waves are called Tsunami wave trains . It is stated that tsunamis sound like standing near a moving freight train. They can travel approximately 700 km/h, faster than a flying jet plane. The waves reach up to about 30 m on average. Although this is very high, there can be waves at a much higher level. They are called Mega Tsunamis . Mega Tsunamis can reach the height of more than 250 m and are usually caused by landslides or large volcanic eruptions. When Tsunamis start to reach the shore, they slow down in speed but increase in height rapidly. Tsunamis are deadly so it is crucial to watch out for different signals. There are tsunami warning systems attached to the buoys in the sea that transmits data and work as a warning system. There are a few other warnings the ocean sends just before the ... The irrational state one enters when inundated with fear might have been an example of someone Golding knew. By attempts to ensure that they are excluded from the moral community a delegation attributed to their lack of the fundamental features or qualities of moral agents. Fortunately, though not necessarily consistently, in the Western liberal modernity, such animalized individuals have come to be afforded the same rights as other members of the human community, despite their lack of many of the qualities which have typically been used to affirm the moral importance of a human being. Due to the lack of support for a truly love based relationship, it is easily seen that this is not a case of true love, but just a partial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Persuasive Essay On Climbing Why do you climb? Four words; four syllables; one question that I ve heard a countless number of times; one question that I never knew how to answer. (Antithesis) Climbing is a sport that is performed in most corners of the world; it s objective is to develop and carry out a method of ascending a rock face, be it with tools, by hand, with protection, or without. For most people, it is a game to be played for the hell of it; for the majority, it is a social environment that connects people of all ethnicities and ages; for some, it s a direct connection to the beauty of the outdoors; for few, it s a way of acquainting oneself with fear; for a minority, it is a masochistic drive; and for me, it is all of the above. Although all of these general reasons motivate climbers in their everyday ambitions, the source of their passion is as obscure as the virgin stone itself. From what I ve learned, there are endless ways to answer this age old question, but three of them stood out the most: to find purpose, to find community, and to find what is elusive. With death being an inevitable conclusion to life, it can be said that the true value of a life is not determined by how long it was lived or what was done during its time, but from what it left behind. In a sport of pushing the physical and psychological boundaries, climbers seek recognition in their achievements, whether it is by finding a new climb that will measure its test of time or being the first to climb a daunting line ... The FCPA requirements fall under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, which is another concerning bribery of foreign executives. Mead Johnson Nutrition was charged by Security Exchange Commission (SEC) for its Chinese subsidiary making improper payments to health care professionals at government owned hospitals in exchange to recommend the company s infant formula to patients who were new or expecting mothers (McKean, 2015). It was discovered that employees funded the payments through distributor allowance funds, which were paid to third party distributors who market, sell, and distribute the company s products in China. Although the funds contractually belonged to the distributors, employees still have some control over how the money was spent and provided specific advice to distributors on how to use the funds. A full case wasn t developed due to an agreed settlement for a payment of $12 million to SEC s finding that they violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Importance Of Learning A Foreign Language Out of my six year career as a teacher, I could observe that learning a foreign language by relying only on the conventional teaching strategies will lead to little or no result. Departing from the repetitive grammar translation method to other innovative approaches helped me attain a certain level of motivation and interest from my students in learning ESL. Likewise, as a Fulbright FLTA, I would adopt the same trajectory in teaching Arabic to non native speakers in order to improve the students acquisition of the target language. One of the approaches that I currently implement in my classroom is giving my students an immersive and interactive learning experience. It is undeniable that full immersion in the target language can be quite problematic seeing that as soon as the learners leave the school setting, they are once again surrounded by their native language. For this reason, I endeavor to gain insights into the student learning attitude from off class communications with them in the hope of bringing something new for each lesson. Should I be given the opportunity to teach Arabic at US universities, I would persuade my students to step out of the traditional learning setting by visiting Arabic speaking families and interacting with them, or encouraging them to get involved in events held by Arabs living in the area. As an FLTA, I will be ready to offer students uncommon access to target languages by hosting cooking sessions, cultural presentations, and other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Harmful Militant Activism in Black Bird Essay I believe there are two types of activism, one which constitutes confrontational action to get their point across, using only peaceful and educated means, and one which constitutes a policy of direct militant action to achieve a social or political goal. In the novel Black Bird, Michel Basilieres suggests that activism, displayed by the FLQ, is one of ethnic narrow nationalism which promotes violence and disruption of the civil peace for a cause that they, the FLQ, feel would produce a more egalitarian society. Although this is an option and a belief for some, there is an alternative. This alternative is one used in the current aspect of activism in which globalism and capitalism is fought. The means of this activism are that of peaceful... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book further touches on the abilities of Marie to be narrow minded and ultra nationalistic when she goes to a book store to buy her brother a Christmas gift. Although the book store is labeled in French and every sign around and in it are French Marie cannot be comfortable. She finds in her to even hate the people in the store looking at the English books, it gave her the creeps (Basilieres 119). She goes on to describe the readers as opium smokers: calm [and] contented (Basilieres 119) almost giving the reader the thought that she likes there to be the opposite, chaos. I believe Marie is also depicted as a heartless and cruel person. Heartless and cruel when she realizes the diplomat was afraid of her (Basilieres 245) and when he pleaded and cried for release she struck him. (Basilieres 250) She was even more cruel and heartless when she beat him with her free hand, twisting the chain (Basilieres 263) and asking where s god now. (Basilieres 263) She was incapable of sympathy (Basilieres 264) and she performed the act as coldly as drowning an unwanted kitten. (Basilieres 264) Marie is not as hard line as some of the other members of her cell, like Hubert whom she feels she owes to do what he would have done after his death, in that she is touched by her mothers sorrow over the loss of her father and it is this human side of her that drives her to leave the house in order to deal with what she ... • 48. The Importance of the Family in Louisa May Alcott Little... Many times people are asked to think about what is important to them. A person may say their home, car, children, material items and some may even say family. In the book Little Women (1868 1869) written by Louisa May Alcott illustrates several family values. The story of the March family starts out during the civil war in New England. The family is left to survive on their own because their father went to protect his country. During the years of life the March children, Margaret (Meg), Josephine (Jo), Beth and Amy, had to face the fact that they were very poor, and couldn t have everything that they fancied. As the family stayed home and awaited the return of their father they received fatherly support from an old neighbor Mr.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rich or poor, we will keep together and be happy in one another (43). So when the March s had a way to get money they refused because family is important. They knew that family was far more important than riches. Many times during the young girls life several lessons were taught. Meg and Jo were several years older then both Beth and Amy and when it came time for the two to do grown up things and Amy was not allowed to do so, she got angry and told Jo that she would be sorry for leaving her out. As Jo enjoyed the theater Amy burned her manuscript, for Jo loved to write and had several stories written in a book which she called her manuscript. Upon returning Jo discovered that her joy was destroyed and felt she could never forgive Amy for what she had done. Once again Marmee being wise in her years told Jo, don t let the sun go down upon your anger; forgive each other, help each other, and begin tomorrow (88). With this advice it helped Jo forgive Amy and helped her though out the rest of her life when she was known to be very short tempered. With this advice family forgets all wrongs and helps each other on the road of life. Not only Marmee contributes to the family in her own subtle way. The children taught their own lessons to the family as time goes on. At the beginning of the story the children are talking about Christmas and realizing that there won t be any presents that year, and at this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Summary Of Le Fresne And Bisclavret As seen with the first two lais, Guigemar and Equitan , Marie uses the lais to express her opinions on righteous and unrighteous love. However, unlike Guigemar and Equitan , the next two lais in her collection, Le Fresne and Bisclavret , are not as straightforward in their approaches to righteous and unrighteous love. Whereas in Equitan there was the warning that those who resemble the king should take warning of his end, in Le Fresne and Bisclavret there is not such a didactic lesson on the morality or immorality of love. Instead, Marie utilizes the slightly convoluted natures of the next two lais to surprise the readers with the outcomes of the stories and to further emphasize the complicated nature of love. In order to more easily draw on the comparisons between Le Fresne and Bisclavret , the lais will be broken up into how the relationships begin, how the lovers face trials, and how the relationships reach their final outcomes. Romantic relationships are not the only type of loving relationships that Marie discusses in her lais. As is the case with the third lai, Le Fresne , the main romantic relationship does not appear until a third of the way into Marie s telling of the lai. While the romantic relationship is essential to the story and drives the plot onward for the final two thirds of the telling, there are other relationships that are equally important to discuss in order to learn the full scope of what Marie de Francedefines as love, ... • 50. Social Norms Of Social Identity Social identities have a lot of significance on people s lives today. People have adopted these norms of behaviors, the values and beliefs which come along with social identities. Various groups within the society have different expectations and standards of behavior which are now seen as a completely natural thing rather than just beliefs. There are different norms of social identities which include the race/ethnicity, religion, class, gender and sexuality. This paper will focus more on the class and gender social identities. In my culture, the main two social identities which are considered the most are gender and class. They highly contribute on how different categories of people are perceived in the society and this determines the how people relate in the society. Looking at gender, people believe that the difference in gender is connected to different responsibilities. The way ladies are treated is different from the way men are treated in the society. This is according to what people strongly believe about gender difference and as a result, different people are valued differently in different situations. Not only that, there are also different expectations from each gender. Looking at the responsibilities aspect, there are jobs which are considered to be suitable for men while others are seen to be suitable for women. This is not because the women cannot do the jobs which are perceived to be suitable for men, bit it is simply because these jobs are perceived to be manly. For instance, most of engineering jobs are said to be manly. Engineering is mostly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 51. Ethical Issues Of Social Media Ethical Issues in Social Media Emerging Information Technologies are faced with numerous ethical issues. One of the most centers of ethical debate in Information Technology is social networks. Social networking has changed from a niche phenomenon to mass adoption. Although the concept of social networking was formulated in the 1960s, the advent of fast internet has sent the concept viral. Currently, social networks have been dogged with myriad ethical issues. Privacy issues are the epicenter of these ethical issues. Some of the ethical problems that have emanated from social networks include hacking, stalking, credit card theft, and social network identity theft. Resultantly, most of social media users are haunted by the dilemmas such as how much personal information to put on social media, how they can control the audience of their profiles, and whether the information they delete from their profiles is well disposed of. This paper highlights the social network technology, and the ethical issues associated with it. Describing Social Network The concept of social networking was coined back in the 1960s when the University of Illinois launched a Plato computer based education tool (Gross Acquisti, 2005). Social network is founded on the idea that there is a predictive structure in which people know each other either directly or indirectly. Social networking technology works on notions such as six degrees of separation which states that everyone on earth is separated from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
