The Event I Went At The University Of Minnesota
The event I went to go see was a Guest Master Class instructed by Barthold Kujiken. This event was
held on Sunday afternoon in Ferguson Hall at the University of Minnesota. It was held in a small
auditorium similar to a class setting. Barthold was accompanied by a student flutist and pianist. A lot
of time was spent with the flutist and pianist playing a part of a piece, and him teaching and
demonstrating on how to improve a piece and explaining the fundamentals of the music. It was a very
informative event/class.
Barthold Kujiken was born March 8, 1949. He s a Belgian flutist and recorder player. He attended
Bruges Conservatory and the Royal Conservatories of Brussels and The Hague, where he studied the
modern flute. He is best known for playing baroque music on authentic instruments such as the flute.
He played in baroque orchestras for many years, and then went off to playing chamber music concerts
all over the world, where he extended to playing 19th century music. The majority of the event he
talked about Sonata s. As we discussed in class, a sonata is a solo instrument accompanied by a
keyboard. In this case the solo instrument was the flute and it was accompanied by a piano. The flutist
played a major sonata. As she played apiece he would stop her and tell her a few things to change to
improve the piece, and she would play that piece once again with the revisions. One of the other
things he told her was to play the sonata without any ornaments just the skeleton.

Interpreting Dreams Essay
Most of us have experienced a dream, be it a nightmare or a pleasant walk in a forest. It was
frequently believed that dreams encompass a coded message that might be expressing our hidden
wishes, things that happened in the past or even predict the future. In the past, there have been many
attempts to unravel the secret hidden behind the dreams and so far the world came up with three main
theories of interpreting the dreams (Freudian, Jungian and Cognitive)(Wade, Travis 1998). In this
essay I will attempt to analyze my dream by using each of the theories mentioned above, then
compare the outcomes as well as their possible connections to my life and in the end determine, which
one of these theories is the most accurate and thus as a laic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, Sigmund Freud used as well the technique of the free association in order to determine the
real meaning of the dream, because sometimes it was not possible to do so by applying the dream
work functions (condensation, composite, displacement, representation) only (Freud 1900).
To be more specific about the process of analyzing any dream, Freud thought that only those objects
and symbols are of significant importance that we forget as soon as few days pass by and our
unconscious censor has enough time to erase them from our memory (Freud 1900). When I have
compared the two versions of my dream (the one that I put down immediately after waking up and the
other one that was written after four days) I found out that the following things and objects were
omitted:
People that were in the boat with me
Deer around the arbor
Six bullets (that I have shot the pig with)
The fact, that these objects were omitted signified a fact that they are (from Freudian point of view) of
significant importance. People that were in the boat with me were the ones I like and ask for an advice
or help. The fact that they were in the boat with me could mean that I need them or perhaps that I will
need them sometimes in the future. However, we can explain it also in another way. Perhaps they are
just slowing my boat down and therefore I cannot go towards

Management And The Importance Of Maintenance Management
Maintenance Management is an orderly and systematic approach to planning, organizing, monitoring
and evaluating maintenance activities and their costs. A good maintenance management system
coupled with knowledgeable and capable maintenance staff can prevent breakdown problems and
environmental damage; yield longer asset life with fewer breakdowns; and result in lower operating
costs and a higher quality of instruments. The term maintenance means to keep the equipment in
operational condition or repair it to its operational mode. Main objective of the maintenance is to have
increased availability of production systems, with increased safety and optimized cost. Maintenance
management involves managing the functions of maintenance. Maintaining equipment in the field has
been a challenging task since the beginning of industrial revolution. Since then, a significant of
progress has been made to maintain equipment effectively in the field.

Art From Baroque Period Through The Postmodern Era Essay
Art from Baroque Period through the Postmodern Era
Renaissance art history began as civic history; it was an expression of civic pride. The first such
history was Filippo Villani s De origine civitatis Florentiae et eiusdem famosis civibus, written about
1381 82. Florentine artists revived an art that was almost dead, Villani asserts, just as Dante had
restored poetry after its decline in the Middle Ages. The revival was begun by Cimabue and completed
by Giotto, who equalled the ancient painters in fame and even surpassed them in skill and talent. After
Giotto came his followers, Stefano, Taddeo Gaddi, and Maso, uomini illustri all, who, together with
notable jurists, poets, musicians, theologians, physicians, orators, and others, made ... Show more

These texts are among the handful that treat art in the early Florentine Renaissance and are, therefore,
precious testimony from the early years of Renaissance art history. While rare for being texts on art,
they are of a type, however, that was common in Renaissance literature. They belong to a genre or
category in which are found some of the most characteristic texts of Renaissance humanism. Other of
the books in this category are by such writers as Bruni, Salutati, and Manetti, books with which all
students of the Renaissance are familiar. They treat broad moral and philosophical issues, but, as in the
accounts of visual art, only insofar as they concern the city of Florence. And scholars reasonably have
asked why there was such a preoccupation with Florence at this time. One of those who did so was
Hans Baron and his answer has been at the center of discussions of this question since the 1950s.
Baron linked the focus on Florence during the years around 1400 to a struggle over Florentine
independence that began in 1390 with a declaration of war by Milan and ended only in 1454, when
Milan accepted the independent status of the Florentine Republic. These events, he proposed, explain
the direction taken by Florentine political speculation at this time, particularly the stress on republican
ideals of liberty and civic involvement; they gave rise to a

Democracy In America Chapter Summaries
I have recently read your novel Democracy in America, and as one of the founding fathers of America,
I would like to give you my input. I have my own ideas on how our democracy should be run and can
see that we both share similar and contrasting beliefs specifically in relation to the chapter in your
novel, Unlimited Power of the Majority in the United States, and Its Consequences .
Based off of this chapter, I can see that you believe in the majority having a right for freedom and the
possibility of political tyranny with too much power in the majority. Well, I myself share this ideal as
expressed in my Federalist papers. I see that we both fear that the social tyranny would pose a great
threat on political power. I think this is because of the entire political minorities were changing
especially the regulation against the wealthy. Yet, my main fear on this issue is about ... Show more

You also suggest that only God was perfect to exercise such powers, not people and that tyranny
became present when total authority was presented to any power. You recognize the dangers that could
come ahead, including the case in which free American institution could be destroyed resulting in the
anxiety of the minorities. Another main point I have observed in your writing pertains to how public
opinions are perceived and their effect on the population. Unlike in noble civilizations, public
opinions were seen as genuine rather than credited in turn having an immense deal of ethical force.
You relate this to America in explaining how the government is greatly controlled by the majority s
wants rather than making independent decisions in best interest of the country s needs. I can see that
your main point is in revealing that the concerns of the majority are preferred over those of the
minority as based off the idea of the moral authority of the

Essay On Latin American Culture
Although there is no singular factor to indicate why or how a nation becomes susceptible to vast labor
migrations, there are a number of social, political, cultural, and historical factors that clearly
contribute to its prevalence. Furthermore, factors abroad in Central America contributed to the
emigration of Latina Women to the America for work. In cohesion with the factors abroad, various
social and political factors promoted the migration to America, and made it a popular destination for
migrant women.
LATIN AMERICAN HISTORY AND CULTURE: Since Christopher Columbus s exploration to the
Americas, Latin America and North America, have vastly developed and each country now contributes
a unique identity to the global community. However, prior to independence for many Latin American
countries, their society, culture, and politics were direct products of Spanish imperialism. Racial
hierarchies began to form, consisting of White Europeans at the top and African Americans (brought
over by the slave trade) and indigenous people at the bottom. Furthermore, during Spanish
Imperialism, the introduction of Catholicism to the region, was perhaps the most significant factor in
cultural development in Latin America. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Electronic Article Surveillance Systems And Radio...
The modern world, as of today, is greatly fuelled by the growing economy in the field of electronics,
but yet, much of daily tasks in education, the work office, and such are still done by hand, and thus
slow down the rate of the undertaking greatly. However, many techniques used in more complex
situations, can be tinkered with, adding in new ideas, and concepts, applied in different ways can
eventually bring a harmony betweenst daily life and the technological world. For example, the RFID
tag and the rest of the electronic article surveillance systems, called EAS can be combined with the
idea of the credit card to form a completely new idea that work make daily life quite the bit simpler.
RFID tags are an acronym for Radio Frequency IDentification and although can be used and applied
for a multitude of purposes in the world, the greater majority of them are used to prevent theft at the
supermarket or department store. However, some progress had been made in the field of electronic
management, of the most notable being embedded inside a library book s cover in order to

location. The benefits of this tag are great though, much more than exploited. The RFID system

Character Analysis Of Katherine Mansfield s The Fly
The tragedies war brings people are horrific, and they do not only occur to those who chose to be
involved. The death and damage that arise cause agony, and not all people are able to cope with this
agony as well as others. People s personalities significantly affect how they are able to cope. In
Katherine Mansfield s The Fly, the main character, the boss, is a man with a naturally controlling
personality that influences how he deals with his war sourced anguish and overcomes it in a somewhat
cruel manner. Being referred to as the boss, rather than his birth given name, tells a great deal about
the boss. The boss in The Fly has a very bossy personality finding great pleasure in being in control.
Readers can tell that the boss is controlling by his method of killing the fly in his office. He carefully
observes the fly struggle to stand after being unstuck from the inkpot and he drowns the fly with the
ink from his pen. After the boss observes the fly finish its laborious task of freeing itself, he refills his
pen and shakes another dark drop. The boss then asks, What about this time? as he repeats his actions
twice more. Even after the fly dies he commands it: Come on... Look sharp! This proves that the boss
is empowered by displaying his dominance even over such a helpless insect. Readers also see that the
boss is taking advantage of his control when he orders his secretary Macey around. He first tells him, I
ll see nobody for half an hour, Macey.

If you step back into the present you may realize that most farms today are very different than that of
the past or what we would see in a painting. According to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency)
there are more than 20,000 factory farms nationwide. This is a 30 percent increase from 2003. These
farms are industrial scale facilities where animals are treated as a product rather than a living creature.
Thousands of animals are kept in these factories resulting in disease and contamination. In the widely
acclaimed documentary Food Inc., directed by Robert Kenner, Carole Morison declared that This isn t
farming. This is just mass production like an assembly line in a factory. In fact there are so many
animals that workers cannot even process the 1.3 billion tons of waste that is produced annually. To
solve this problem, waste is piled into large open pools and sprayed onto the land resulting in health
problems for not only the workers but the people who live nearby. Rivers, streams and groundwater
may also get polluted from this process.

All I Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten By Robert...
All I really need to know I learned in kindergarten
All I really need to know I learned in kindergarten is a short essay by Robert Fulghum explaining in
detail everything we learned in kindergarten and how it is all we really need to know in life. The text
by Robert Fulghum explains the human flaw of getting so caught up in finding meaning and purpose
to life, that we do not recognize that all we need for a successful life has already been taught to us, in
kindergarten. This meaning is demonstrated throughout the text by the use of, imagery, tone, and
structure.

The essay is written, for the majority of it, in such a way that it is simple enough for a kindergartener
to read and understand. Important text is bolded in the very first paragraph as the author want us to
know right away what he is trying to tell us. In kindergarten we were exposed to lists, so instead of
writing out everything we learned in a long confusing paragraph, Robert Fulghum creates us a list. It
is almost as though he wants us to feel like we are kindergarteners again, as we read text written in a
childish manner even full of grammar mistakes like learn some and think some and draw and paint
and sing and dance and play and work every day some . However, as we get to the part of the essay
explaining how we can apply these simple lessons into our adult lives, the grammar becomes formal
and uses fancy words such as extrapolate to give the text a new meaning, a more professional mature
meaning. To connect these two very different aspects of our lives, the childish one, and the adult one,
the author creatively manipulates us into believing what he is saying. Without this detailed use of
structure the text would not seem as convincing nor as pertinent. If the text explaining kindergarten
morals, was written formally it would not seem as important as to us, it may seem below our adult
ways of life . Contrary to that if the part explaining how these rules could help our families, friends,

The Existence Of Gender Discrimination
The existence of gender discrimination in workplaces is not under dispute (Acker, 2006). In virtually
all societies across the world, women are known to be in a lower position in labour market than men.
Women are overrepresented in positions at the bottom echelons of organisations; they have less status,
prestige, power and authority on the job. Besides, women are segregated into roles and jobs that offer
poorer rewards and have fewer opportunities for progression to positions of power (Walby, 1988).
Women receive less pay and rewards than men, even if they work in similar jobs with similar levels of
responsibility and requiring a similar level of ability (Cockburn, 1992). Although it has been argued
that the poorer labour market position ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Neo classical economists explain discrimination in labour market in two ways: through the notions of
the taste for discrimination and through statistical discrimination (Sawyer, 1989They argue that
employers exhibit prejudices against certain groups based on their personal belief system. In the case
of women, it is suggested that employers discriminate based on the belief that women are not as
capable as men in certain roles. An excellent example of this is provided in a litigation case that was
brought against the financial services and auditing company Pricewaterhouse Coopers (Case, 2014).
Ann Hopkins took her employer to court when she was passed over for promotion in favour of a male
colleague in spite of the fact that objective records showed that her performance on the job was far
superior to that man s. The court found that Pricewaterhouse Coopers had discriminated against
Hopkins simply because she was a woman, and they did not believe that she would be capable in the
new role.
Neo classical economists, however, state that this form of discrimination is logical for employers
(Sawyer, 1989). This is due to the presence of uncertainty and asymmetric information, as well as the
fact that employers are rational in their decision making. Although information is available in CVs,
application forms, and other selection mechanisms, employers are still unable to be certain that any
new employees will fully meet the criteria for

Examples Of Forgiveness And Reconciliation
The process involved in forgiveness and reconciliation can be very simple or very complex depending
on the situation. One time my friend took money from my wallet, I think it was a $20 bill and I caught
him in the act. We were both in the car and I parked at the mall and I left the car for about five minutes
and when I was walking back I saw in reach into my glove box and take money out of my wallet. I
was shocked and confronted him right away. He said he needed money to pay for his brother back.
Since he is a friend of mine I forgave him and just said he could just ask for money and didn t have to
steal from me. We are still friends and I still hang out with him on the regular but I don t trust him

The Amish are very religious and spiritual people who believe that forgiveness is more than a good
thing to do but forgiveness is the thing to do. In the Amish perspective the test of faith is action so
forgiving their children s killers with hours of death really shows what kind of people they are and is
very inspiring. The way the Amish people responded to the killings was such a shock. One of the
things I liked about that article was when they said that religion was not used to justify rage but to
inspire goodness, forgiveness, and grace. Even members of the community visited the gunman s
widow and parents. For the majority of us the process of forgiveness is a journey and may never
happen so just the fact they forgave so quickly was viewed as emotionally unhealthy to many.
Forgiveness has a meaning of not holding a grudge and the Amish were very clear that it does not
make the shooter free from punishment. If he were to live the Amish people would have wanted him
to be locked up but not for reasons of revenge but for the purpose of protecting other children. Most
people growing up learn about forgiveness and have experienced it one way or another. People need to
learn that forgiveness is an essential part of healing and is a process towards inner peace. Learning that
forgiveness is an internal process where you identify the hurt and analyze the situation as well as your
emotions helps you rebuild a sense of safety and letting go of a grudge. The whole process of
forgiveness does not usually involve the offender, most of the time not at all until confronted. As
where reconciliation is an internal process where you have a talk with the offender to talk about
various things such as what happened, each other s stories, viewpoints, reasoning s, expressing the
hurt, emotions, and so on. When reconciliation happens it moves beyond forgiveness because it is

The Oligarch s Idea Of Athenian Democracy
On the first meeting of the Assembly at the Pnyx, Thearion, the celebrity baker who intriguingly bakes
his loaves of bread into the shape of animals, served as herald and sacrificed a boar to the Goddess
Demeter, hoping she would bless the day and allow for the rebuild and healing of Athens to decisively
begin. However, it seems Demeter was not immediately impressed with the offering, as shortly
thereafter a rain quall blew in from the Saronic Gulf and brought upon a deluge that dismayed
hundreds of Athenians attending the Assembly and innervated their sense to flee the area. Those
resilient enough to stay, including Aristarchus, an Oligarch who presided over the assembly that day,

They deemed Socrates crimes of corruption and impiety did not merit the death penalty, but were

Socrates defendants included his disciples Crito and Xenophon. Both rebuked the claim that Socrates

The Between Religion And Music Essay
Music and religion are often intertwined, whether it be religious chanting or hymns used to worship.
However, in the case of Islam, the relationship between religion and music is more strained, as Islamic
law strictly forbids listening to music. However, there is a very strong religious debate on what
constitutes music as diversion and what is acceptable to use in worship and religious purposes. There
are two concepts in Islam which are relevant to this conversation: sama and ghina. The ghina is the
simpler of the two, referring to music and performance associated with secular art music; this is
normally banished. Ghina is the only genre which is referred to as music . The sama, on the other
hand, is more complex. Sama, which literally means listening and thus, includes the music being
listened to (as well as dance as performed by mystic societies) is more complex. The abundance of
writings about the sama is chiefly due to the debate surrounding the legality of music and dance from
a legal, mystical, and religious perspective. Some elements of music have been categorized as
acceptable sama by religious authorities, including Koran cantillation, singing of unaccompanied
hymns, old Bedouin songs, and simple functional folk songs used to mark events in a community or
individual s life, thus considering them to be non music .
Since the beginning of Islam, there has been disagreement on what is to be considered sama, with
religious leaders stances ranging from

Meaning Of Race In The Film Understanding Race
The Meaning Of Race
The film Understanding Race gives many accounts of the meaning of the word race and what race
actually is and what it isn t. According to the film, most scientists agree that race doesn t exists in the
natural world. This conclusion was drawn in 1998, the concept of race was proven to have no
scientific validity and is not scientifically proven. The film suggests that just because the concept of
race isn t proven by science, that doesn t take away from the concept of race having a true meaning for
humans. Although race has a meaning to humans, there is not a distinct answer to what race means.
For example, during an interview in the film a comedian Margaret Cho, defines race as being what
you are but not who you are. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dolores Newton points out during the film that one of the things that has made humans successful on
Earth is that we have always been good at classifying things and looking at similarities and
differences. Maya Angelo suggests during an in film interview that we use the differences because we
don t know any better. She also suggests that we use the differences between ourselves in hopes that
we can make our own lives better. Although over many centuries humans have tried to divide humans
based on race, it has been proven that the human species cannot be divided into a small number of
groups because nobody has came up with a reasonable list of racial groups. The film states that
preconceptions about the race of people is something that all humans experience in their lifetime
whether they like to admit or not. Many of the preconceptions that individuals have will cause them to

Nursing Case Study Phentermine
Introduction
In the 1990 s, phentermine was marketed in combination with fenfluramine as Fen Phen. The
combination therapy was subsequently well documented to lead to valve abnormalities resulting in
aortic valve replacements, as well as pulmonary hypertension, in patients younger than expected. This
led to its ultimate removal from the market in 1997. 1 3 However, phentermine alone was deemed safe
and continued to be sold as a weight loss aid, either on its own or in combination with, other
medications.4 There are no known reports of ischemia induced by phentermine alone or other
associated weight loss agents. Particular consideration should be given to patients who present for
surgery and anesthesia who have previously been prescribed phentermine. We describe a case of
phentermine induced myocardial infarction in a young female who was previously healthy.

To date, there are only two documented case reports in otherwise healthy women who presented with
ST segment elevation myocardial infarctions (STEMI) associated with the use of phentermine or
sibutramine, another similar weight loss agent.7 However, unlike in our case, the coronary
angiographies were normal. Further investigations for the etiology of those events, including
toxicology for cocaine abuse and a hypercoagulable state, were negative. The authors concluded that
due to the absence of cardiovascular risk factors, the appetite suppressants were responsible for the

The Use Of Glycerol Residue
ABSTRACT: The use of glycerol residue, a palm oil waste from Oleochemical industries as a raw
material for the production of succinic acid with immobilized cell fermentation process was
investigated. In this work, the raw material, immobilized cells to produced succinic acid were
characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry (FTIR) and Scanning Electron Microscope
instruments. Based on the results, the functional group appearing for treated and commercial glycerol
is the hydroxyl, aromatic methoxyl, alkenes, soap, carbonyl and alcohol group. The hydroxyl group
which is O H appeared at a spectra value of 3394.2700 cm 1for the treated glycerol and 3299.9600 cm
1 for the commercial group. Respectively. From the analysis of SEM for bead, it was found that
majority of pores fall within range and the shapes was ellipsoid and a thick skin around strains was
detectable, therefore indicating that immobilized cell prepared for fermnatation process is an attractive
source for succinic acid applications. . Key words: succinic acid, immobilized cell, glycerol residue,

Importance of Being on Time Essay
The Importance Of Being On Time And at the right place The importance of being on time is that so
you will be early to where ever you need to be, and what ever you need to do. If you are early you will
always have time to make sure everything that you need to do is straight and there aren t n e errors in
what you need to do. It is important to be on time for work because it shows that you are dedicated in
the things that you do and it can help you in moving up in your field of work. It is important to be on

Apple Is Going Up Against Market Leader Spotify, Jay Z s...
Full Speed Ahead, Apple Jumps In the Music Streaming Service Market for the First Time. Authors
Mark Schneider and Andrew Flanagan of Billboard magazine state, Apple is going up against market
leader Spotify, Jay Z S Tidal and other streaming upstart services. Throughout the music industry,
musicians, record companies, and music publishers are crying foul for, not getting paid for their music
during a three month trial period done by Apple s new streaming service. Is Apple taking appropriate
steps to be competitive in the streaming service market, is the company, avoiding any distractions they
may have to be successful, more importantly do they meet the concerns of the music streaming
community and showing good moral principles in doing so? Authors Schneider and Flanagan, state
approximate a year ago, Apple took step number 1, jumping into the streaming services market for the
first time, by purchasing Beasts for three billion dollars. Beast, a hibernating streaming service at the
time, is co founded by record producers Dr, Dre and Jimmy Lovine; the two of them joined Apple in
executive roles said the authors. Streaming music is moving away from algorithms, where the music
being generated by computer to the more modern version called human curation said Schneider and
Flanagan. Human curation for example, when one knows music very well, such as an artist therefore,
he or she can make better recommendations or advice selecting from a playlist compared to a search

Wuthering Heights Vs Wuthering Heights
Two houses, one home, the tale of Wuthering Heights has one of the best examples of contrasting
places and how it affects their inhabitants. Emily Bronte uses these two places to contrast on one
another and to maybe be seen as a heaven vs hell. Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange contrast
in landscape, houses, and inhabitants. Wuthering heights literally means worn and cliff like, it was
built in the wild moors where it is exposed to intense winds and weather. In the first chapter
Lockwood approaches it and makes not to the gargoyles, rough stone exterior, and rough looking
gates. Later when he attempts to journey back home he finds himself lost in a snowstorm in which he
was returned to the house. The house itself is cold, gloomy, and eerie feeling. Lockwood gives the
reader an excellent description in the beginning chapters when he arrives at the house. He notes that
the grass grows wild, the narrow windows, and large stone gargoyles, he also makes note of the plain
furniture and lack of a homey feel. The House itself is far from any civilization leaving the inhabitants
isolated with only the wild moors to teach them the social norms. The house is unkempt and dusty
with only Joseph to take care of it, who clearly does not. Besides the cold winds and energy within the
house, the people that live there are strange, wild, and rude as well. Joseph, the servant, refuses to do
what he is told unless it is from the master of the house. He is uneducated and sour. Hindley,

The Beat Generation Subculture Essay
The Beat Generation Subculture
Every generation has its middle class, majority, and norm, which are decided by that era s standards of
behavior and thought. Similarly, each generation has a group that rejects these standards and rebels
against the norm. In the 1950 s a group of American writers that exemplified this behavior formed.
They were called the beat generation. The beat generation was particularly remarkable because
although it was began by an exceptionally small group of people, its cultural influence was enormous.
The beats rebelled against things like conformity and consumerism in the post World War II society.
Their writing challenged both traditional American values and contemporary writing styles.

Many writers in the group later renounced the term when they felt it lost its meaning. It took the beats
a long time before they gained fame however. Jack Kerouac s novel, On the Road, went through many
different publishers before anyone agreed to print it. When it did come out it was heavily criticized by
the press. In the 1950 s the lifestyle that On the Road explored was considered deviant. The stereotype
that emerged in the mass media was a spaced out beatnik, dressed in black, pounding on bongo drums
and muttering gibberish as poetry (Microsoft Encarta, 2001). America s youth, however, identified
with the feelings of despair and the need for freedom expressed in their work. The beats created a
revolution that began with many young people leaving their conventional lives to hitchhike around
American and find themselves. Like most subcultures, the Beat Generation rebelled against the social
and cultural norms of their time. For them it was the post World War II society that they rejected.
Cultural historians point out that acquisition of consumer goods, which had been scarce during
wartime, became a central feature of postwar life, driven by the mass media, advertising, and generous
loan terms (Encarta, 2001). The

Biodiversity And Its Effects On Biodiversity
Abstract. Biodiversity is a variety of life and it is important to maintain biodiversity because it
provides everyone s needs for food source, water source and shelter. Currently, Georgia Gwinnett
College expanding with construction around the area, will this cause a disturbance where the campus
will not be able to have biodiversity or having some disturbance can increase it? The research
measured biodiversity in 5 different places around campus, these locations varying levels of
disturbance and resources. After analysis, it was determined that sites further away from the stream at
the downstream location had less biodiversity, and that the GGC site location had more biodiversity
than both of the stream locations, which may be due to more diverse habitats with the location, or
sharing more transition areas with areas of higher disturbance.
Introduction. Biodiversity is a variety of life on Earth at all levels from genes to ecosystems and the
ecological and evolutionary process that is able to keep biodiversity in balance (Willington, 2005).
Biodiversity is important because it satisfy s everyone including animals, organisms and humans basic
needs such as food and water source and as well shelter(Wood, 1997). The overall goal in biodiversity
conservation is to create a foundation in developing ways to protect and use biological resources in a
way where it does not destroy important habitats in an ecosystem (Nangendo, 2002). In ecology it has
been taught that everything from

The Evolution Of Oled Displays
In the modern era of Graphical Display Technology, there has been a rapid advancement. With arise of
CRTs; there came an existence for the world of displays. Soon after, various research and development
in the field of displays gave the cutting edge technologies such as LCDs, LEDs, and Plasma Displays.
In such scenario, a display ability to produce deep, dark blacks and crisper colors are arguably the
most important factor in achieving excellent picture quality. Deeper blacks allows for higher contrast
and richer colors, and thus a more realistic and dazzling image. When it comes to black levels, OLED

The proposed mechanism was field accelerated electron excitation of molecular fluorescence. Roger
Partridge made the first observation of electroluminescence from polymer films at the National
Physical Laboratory in the United Kingdom. The device consisted of a film of poly (N vinylcarbazole)

were patented in 1975 and published in 1983. The first practical OLEDs: American physical chemist
Ching W. Tang and Steven Van Slyke at Eastman Kodak built the first practical OLED device in
1987.This device used a two layer structure with separate hole transporting and electron transporting
layers such that recombination and light emission occurred in the middle of the organic layer; this
resulted in a reduction in operating voltage and improvements in efficiency. 3. Evolution: The
discovery of the electroluminescence in organic crystals by Martin Pope and his research group in
1963 has opened a new era, especially in the field of OLEDs. However, the development of organic
electroluminescence based devices is very slow due to the requirement of high voltage as well as for
low efficiency. About 29 years ago, in 1987, Ching W. Tang and Steve Van Slyke have discovered the
first efficient light emitting device based

Preventing Complications From Gestational Diabetes
Promotion of a Healthy Lifestyle to Prevent Complications from Gestational Diabetes
Gestational diabetes, glucose intolerance with onset or first recognition occurring during pregnancy, is
a problem more pregnant women are facing. The exact prevalence rate of gestational diabetes mellitus
is unknown but in the United States it is estimated to affect anywhere from one to 14 percent of
pregnancies (Desisto, Shin, Sharma, 2014). There are several risk factors which increase a woman s
risk for gestational diabetes. Some of these risks include: family history of diabetes mellitus, previous
history of gestational diabetes, advanced maternal age, previous infant weighing 9 pounds or more at
birth, glycosuria, polycystic ovary syndrome, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Complications to the fetus include: macrosomia, hypoglycemia, neural tube defects, preterm delivery,
shoulder dystocia, hyperbilirubinemia, and being large for gestational age (Elkins Smith Taylor, 2013)
(Kim, 2010). So, the purpose of this paper is to discuss the care management strategies to promote a
healthy lifestyle in obese pregnant women diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus, to control
their gestational diabetes mellitus without the intervention of insulin treatment and to prevent
complications from gestational diabetes mellitus.
Care Management Process
Expected Outcomes Gestational diabetes is a significant diagnosis in pregnancy but it is expected that
obese women diagnosed with gestational diabetes will be able to control their diabetes without the
intervention of insulin treatment. They should be able to do this through lifestyle changes. By
controlling their gestational diabetes mellitus, the women will be able to reduce the risk or even
prevent maternal complications and fetal complications associated with gestational diabetes mellitus.
Assessments
The first step in managing gestational diabetes to reduce risks of maternal and fetal complications, one
must be diagnosed with it. To be diagnosed women go through a screening process. The American
College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Diabetes Association recommend that
all women should have their initial screening

English Descriptive Narrative essay
It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia. The air was fresh and the fog was rolling off of
the dark green oak trees. These trees were scattered everywhere like grains of sand on a hot summer
beach. The soft and lingering scent from the various kinds of flowers filled the air. This added a sense
of happiness to everyone who was celebrating my uncle s wedding, especially my sisters and I. Before
the wedding, people were gathered in large groups, everywhere, bickering with one another. Over 450

It was like she was walking on clouds. Walking with grace in every foot step, she came out from
behind the stone wall in her long white dress covered in a very thin lace. Everyone was watching her.
It was her day to celebrate. All eyes were on her. As I took a glance at the groom I knew this was a

her the same way as almost every character in a love story would. When they held eachothers hands

the most powerful kiss. This kiss was full of meaning and pure passion. Everyone was affected by this

that could not be broken. As the ceremony neared its end, everybody went their separate ways. The

Hubble Space Telescope Research Paper
Hubble Space Telescope The Hubble Space Telescope is the first major telescope that was placed in
space. It has been in operation for over twenty five years, and has greatly changed our knowledge of
the universe. It can observe galaxies and stars that are very far away since it is not blocked at all by
light pollution and smog that obstructs the views of the telescopes on Earth. Hubble is fascinating
because it was and still is the most revolutionary telescope since Galileo first looked through one over
four hundred years ago. Hubble played a large role in helping scientists discover and learn about many
things like dark matter and dark energy, the age of the universe, and gamma ray bursts. None of these
discoveries would have been possible without Hubble s unique view of the universe. ... Show more

Dark matter is a type of matter that is invisible, but accounts for most of the mass and structure of the
universe. Hubble allowed scientists to observe how dark matter bends the light of galaxies that are far
away through gravitational lensing. Scientists could then theorize about the existence of dark matter.
Due to Hubble s unique viewpoint, scientists could also map where dark matter is located and how it
is distributed in galaxies. Hubble also played a large role in the discovery of dark energy. Dark energy
is a repulsive force that causes the universe to expand at a faster and faster rate. Hubble not only
detected the presence of dark energy, but also that it has been around since almost the beginning of the
universe. It was used to look back in time at supernovae, which are used to trace how the universe
expanded. Only Hubble could be used for this task because telescopes on the ground would be unable
to see these very distant and faint supernovae. Hubble changed the field of astronomy through its part
in discovering dark matter and dark

Consequences of Industrialization
Most people regard industrialization as a positive development capable of generating great wealth and
revitalizing run down areas. Mention industrialization today, and it brings to mind large factories
organized with the latest technologies in mass producing. Along with these visions comes the promise
of more jobs for the community, higher rates of pay, and financial stability. One can only think of the
positive influences on a community that the opening of a new factory could bring, but during what
some have deemed the Industrial Revolution, industrialization only meant using machines and new
power sources to accomplish a task formerly done by human and animal power. Our modern day

The Consequences Of The Truman Doctrine
The foreign policy of the United States can be defined as a labyrinth a set of complex intricacies
which either lack comprehension or are characterized by meticulous thought. Established during a
period of ideological warfare and domestic hysteria, it is evident the Truman Doctrine was conceived
with a disregard for the future stability of American international affairs. Engulfed within a period
marked by massive power struggles and distorted accusations, the Truman Doctrine may appear
minimal in regard to alterations of the United States international attitude. However, the Doctrine
acted as a catalyst for the shift in America s foreign policy objectives and vision. It is clear the Truman
Doctrine produced detrimental consequences in regard to the international policy of the United States,
stability of foreign countries, and continuing repercussions in the modern day. Following the Allies
victory in World War II, and preceding the historical period of the Red Scare, relations between the
Soviet Union and the United States were relatively neutral (in spite of the drastically different
ideological viewpoints). Contrary to popular belief the Doctrine was originally constructed to quell
communist uprisings, it is clear the intention was to establish stability within European nations vital to
the economic interests of the United States (Gaddis 11). As domestic tidings began to alter as a result
of the Red Scare, the Doctrine would become a stigma for ideological conflict

Tell your doctor before any injection if you:
Are allergic to eggs
Are allergic to latex
Have Guillain Barre syndrome
Have a fever
Have any illness or disease
Your doctor also needs to know if you ve had a severe reaction to a vaccine in the past.
Minor reactions to immunization are limited to:
Redness at the injection site
Slight pain at the injection site
Muscle aches
Low fever
Malaise
These are all temporary symptoms and pass within a day or two.
Your caregiver is trained to recognize serious reactions. He or she will consult with your doctor to
ensure that you obtain treatment if needed. Otherwise, your caregiver will strive to keep you
comfortable.
It s also important that you receive your immunizations at the right time. A home health care specialist
helps you keep a record of what you ve had and when. If needed, your caregiver will schedule an
appointment and transport you to the doctor s office.
Most physicians recommend the following vaccinations for seniors:
Influenza
Pneumonia
Shingles
Tdap
These are all intended to prevent infection.
Influenza
Influenza, or the flu, is very contagious. The older an individual is, the more serious it can be. It can
worsen any existing condition.
Complications of the flu can land you in a hospital. You may still get the flu if you re vaccinated, but
the infection will be much milder. Because the viruses that cause influenza constantly change, you
need a new flu shot each year.

The Historical Figure Of Susan B. Anthony
Susan B. Anthony was born February 15, 1820 and raised in very religious household. She first started
off as teacher before she became and extravagant women that not just worked for herself but for many
other women s rights. Susan B. Anthony should be a historical figure due to the fact that she went
through so much suffering. In which she fought for the women s right to vote and as well as gender
equality. Not only did she just fight for women s right but as well to get rid of alcohol and did not
support slavery by campaigning against them. People look down on her and despise her due to the
reasoning that she voted illegally and took matter in to her own hands and was put into prison for it.
Which cause women to get more hate and not receive their equal rights faster. Another reasoning
people might not think she should be historical is because she said a racist comment. Despite all these
things she dint just think of herself but for everyone. She never gave up and always kept writing and
lecturing about equality which has helped every women have equal right and as well inspired many
women that anything can be possible no matter their gender. Early life Susan B Anthony was the

One of the themes, isolation, which shows how the artist experienced a harsh isolation during his
artistic life. As mentioned throughout the story, the artist is completely devoted to his art (art of
starvation), however, at the peak of his popularity lack of appreciation and understanding of his art
from the audience was at its peak. As a consequence, the feeling of being isolated that is experienced
by the artist may be the result of this detachment of the audience from his art. Nevertheless, as stated
in the story, the artist may no be completely attached to his art as he was a picky eater and finding the
food that he likes was difficult. The isolation experienced by the artist may also be experienced by
others who s intentions are outside the normal world. Furthermore, an other theme, Art and Culture,

  • 2. The Event I Went At The University Of Minnesota The event I went to go see was a Guest Master Class instructed by Barthold Kujiken. This event was held on Sunday afternoon in Ferguson Hall at the University of Minnesota. It was held in a small auditorium similar to a class setting. Barthold was accompanied by a student flutist and pianist. A lot of time was spent with the flutist and pianist playing a part of a piece, and him teaching and demonstrating on how to improve a piece and explaining the fundamentals of the music. It was a very informative event/class. Barthold Kujiken was born March 8, 1949. He s a Belgian flutist and recorder player. He attended Bruges Conservatory and the Royal Conservatories of Brussels and The Hague, where he studied the modern flute. He is best known for playing baroque music on authentic instruments such as the flute. He played in baroque orchestras for many years, and then went off to playing chamber music concerts all over the world, where he extended to playing 19th century music. The majority of the event he talked about Sonata s. As we discussed in class, a sonata is a solo instrument accompanied by a keyboard. In this case the solo instrument was the flute and it was accompanied by a piano. The flutist played a major sonata. As she played apiece he would stop her and tell her a few things to change to improve the piece, and she would play that piece once again with the revisions. One of the other things he told her was to play the sonata without any ornaments just the skeleton. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Interpreting Dreams Essay Most of us have experienced a dream, be it a nightmare or a pleasant walk in a forest. It was frequently believed that dreams encompass a coded message that might be expressing our hidden wishes, things that happened in the past or even predict the future. In the past, there have been many attempts to unravel the secret hidden behind the dreams and so far the world came up with three main theories of interpreting the dreams (Freudian, Jungian and Cognitive)(Wade, Travis 1998). In this essay I will attempt to analyze my dream by using each of the theories mentioned above, then compare the outcomes as well as their possible connections to my life and in the end determine, which one of these theories is the most accurate and thus as a laic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Sigmund Freud used as well the technique of the free association in order to determine the real meaning of the dream, because sometimes it was not possible to do so by applying the dream work functions (condensation, composite, displacement, representation) only (Freud 1900). To be more specific about the process of analyzing any dream, Freud thought that only those objects and symbols are of significant importance that we forget as soon as few days pass by and our unconscious censor has enough time to erase them from our memory (Freud 1900). When I have compared the two versions of my dream (the one that I put down immediately after waking up and the other one that was written after four days) I found out that the following things and objects were omitted: People that were in the boat with me Deer around the arbor Six bullets (that I have shot the pig with) The fact, that these objects were omitted signified a fact that they are (from Freudian point of view) of significant importance. People that were in the boat with me were the ones I like and ask for an advice or help. The fact that they were in the boat with me could mean that I need them or perhaps that I will need them sometimes in the future. However, we can explain it also in another way. Perhaps they are just slowing my boat down and therefore I cannot go towards ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Art From Baroque Period Through The Postmodern Era Essay Art from Baroque Period through the Postmodern Era Renaissance art history began as civic history; it was an expression of civic pride. The first such history was Filippo Villani s De origine civitatis Florentiae et eiusdem famosis civibus, written about 1381 82. Florentine artists revived an art that was almost dead, Villani asserts, just as Dante had restored poetry after its decline in the Middle Ages. The revival was begun by Cimabue and completed by Giotto, who equalled the ancient painters in fame and even surpassed them in skill and talent. After Giotto came his followers, Stefano, Taddeo Gaddi, and Maso, uomini illustri all, who, together with notable jurists, poets, musicians, theologians, physicians, orators, and others, made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These texts are among the handful that treat art in the early Florentine Renaissance and are, therefore, precious testimony from the early years of Renaissance art history. While rare for being texts on art, they are of a type, however, that was common in Renaissance literature. They belong to a genre or category in which are found some of the most characteristic texts of Renaissance humanism. Other of the books in this category are by such writers as Bruni, Salutati, and Manetti, books with which all students of the Renaissance are familiar. They treat broad moral and philosophical issues, but, as in the accounts of visual art, only insofar as they concern the city of Florence. And scholars reasonably have asked why there was such a preoccupation with Florence at this time. One of those who did so was Hans Baron and his answer has been at the center of discussions of this question since the 1950s. Baron linked the focus on Florence during the years around 1400 to a struggle over Florentine independence that began in 1390 with a declaration of war by Milan and ended only in 1454, when Milan accepted the independent status of the Florentine Republic. These events, he proposed, explain the direction taken by Florentine political speculation at this time, particularly the stress on republican ideals of liberty and civic involvement; they gave rise to a ... • 6. Democracy In America Chapter Summaries I have recently read your novel Democracy in America, and as one of the founding fathers of America, I would like to give you my input. I have my own ideas on how our democracy should be run and can see that we both share similar and contrasting beliefs specifically in relation to the chapter in your novel, Unlimited Power of the Majority in the United States, and Its Consequences . Based off of this chapter, I can see that you believe in the majority having a right for freedom and the possibility of political tyranny with too much power in the majority. Well, I myself share this ideal as expressed in my Federalist papers. I see that we both fear that the social tyranny would pose a great threat on political power. I think this is because of the entire political minorities were changing especially the regulation against the wealthy. Yet, my main fear on this issue is about ... You also suggest that only God was perfect to exercise such powers, not people and that tyranny became present when total authority was presented to any power. You recognize the dangers that could come ahead, including the case in which free American institution could be destroyed resulting in the anxiety of the minorities. Another main point I have observed in your writing pertains to how public opinions are perceived and their effect on the population. Unlike in noble civilizations, public opinions were seen as genuine rather than credited in turn having an immense deal of ethical force. You relate this to America in explaining how the government is greatly controlled by the majority s wants rather than making independent decisions in best interest of the country s needs. I can see that your main point is in revealing that the concerns of the majority are preferred over those of the minority as based off the idea of the moral authority of the ... • 7. Essay On Latin American Culture Although there is no singular factor to indicate why or how a nation becomes susceptible to vast labor migrations, there are a number of social, political, cultural, and historical factors that clearly contribute to its prevalence. Furthermore, factors abroad in Central America contributed to the emigration of Latina Women to the America for work. In cohesion with the factors abroad, various social and political factors promoted the migration to America, and made it a popular destination for migrant women. LATIN AMERICAN HISTORY AND CULTURE: Since Christopher Columbus s exploration to the Americas, Latin America and North America, have vastly developed and each country now contributes a unique identity to the global community. However, prior to independence for many Latin American countries, their society, culture, and politics were direct products of Spanish imperialism. Racial hierarchies began to form, consisting of White Europeans at the top and African Americans (brought over by the slave trade) and indigenous people at the bottom. Furthermore, during Spanish Imperialism, the introduction of Catholicism to the region, was perhaps the most significant factor in cultural development in Latin America. The ... Latino men habitually follow the concept of machismo , which is a hegemonic construction of Latino masculinity that has consisted of sexism and exertion of dominance through violence or anger. However, many techniques used in more complex situations, can be tinkered with, adding in new ideas, and concepts, applied in different ways can eventually bring a harmony betweenst daily life and the technological world. For example, the RFID tag and the rest of the electronic article surveillance systems, called EAS can be combined with the idea of the credit card to form a completely new idea that work make daily life quite the bit simpler. RFID tags are an acronym for Radio Frequency IDentification and although can be used and applied for a multitude of purposes in the world, the greater majority of them are used to prevent theft at the supermarket or department store. However, some progress had been made in the field of electronic management, of the most notable being embedded inside a library book s cover in order to automatically check it out to the patron to injecting the rice sized tag into a pet or human to identify its location. The benefits of this tag are great though, much more than exploited. The death and damage that arise cause agony, and not all people are able to cope with this agony as well as others. People s personalities significantly affect how they are able to cope. In Katherine Mansfield s The Fly, the main character, the boss, is a man with a naturally controlling personality that influences how he deals with his war sourced anguish and overcomes it in a somewhat cruel manner. Being referred to as the boss, rather than his birth given name, tells a great deal about the boss. The boss in The Fly has a very bossy personality finding great pleasure in being in control. Readers can tell that the boss is controlling by his method of killing the fly in his office. He carefully observes the fly struggle to stand after being unstuck from the inkpot and he drowns the fly with the ink from his pen. After the boss observes the fly finish its laborious task of freeing itself, he refills his pen and shakes another dark drop. All I really need to know I learned in kindergarten All I really need to know I learned in kindergarten is a short essay by Robert Fulghum explaining in detail everything we learned in kindergarten and how it is all we really need to know in life. The text by Robert Fulghum explains the human flaw of getting so caught up in finding meaning and purpose to life, that we do not recognize that all we need for a successful life has already been taught to us, in kindergarten. This meaning is demonstrated throughout the text by the use of, imagery, tone, and structure. Kindergarten, a time of happiness, and peaceful frolicking fun. The essay is written, for the majority of it, in such a way that it is simple enough for a kindergartener to read and understand. Important text is bolded in the very first paragraph as the author want us to know right away what he is trying to tell us. In kindergarten we were exposed to lists, so instead of writing out everything we learned in a long confusing paragraph, Robert Fulghum creates us a list. It is almost as though he wants us to feel like we are kindergarteners again, as we read text written in a childish manner even full of grammar mistakes like learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some . However, as we get to the part of the essay explaining how we can apply these simple lessons into our adult lives, the grammar becomes formal and uses fancy words such as extrapolate to give the text a new meaning, a more professional mature meaning. To connect these two very different aspects of our lives, the childish one, and the adult one, the author creatively manipulates us into believing what he is saying. Without this detailed use of structure the text would not seem as convincing nor as pertinent. If the text explaining kindergarten morals, was written formally it would not seem as important as to us, it may seem below our adult ways of life . • 14. The Existence Of Gender Discrimination The existence of gender discrimination in workplaces is not under dispute (Acker, 2006). In virtually all societies across the world, women are known to be in a lower position in labour market than men. Women are overrepresented in positions at the bottom echelons of organisations; they have less status, prestige, power and authority on the job. Besides, women are segregated into roles and jobs that offer poorer rewards and have fewer opportunities for progression to positions of power (Walby, 1988). Women receive less pay and rewards than men, even if they work in similar jobs with similar levels of responsibility and requiring a similar level of ability (Cockburn, 1992). Neo classical economists explain discrimination in labour market in two ways: through the notions of the taste for discrimination and through statistical discrimination (Sawyer, 1989They argue that employers exhibit prejudices against certain groups based on their personal belief system. In the case of women, it is suggested that employers discriminate based on the belief that women are not as capable as men in certain roles. An excellent example of this is provided in a litigation case that was brought against the financial services and auditing company Pricewaterhouse Coopers (Case, 2014). Ann Hopkins took her employer to court when she was passed over for promotion in favour of a male colleague in spite of the fact that objective records showed that her performance on the job was far superior to that man s. The court found that Pricewaterhouse Coopers had discriminated against Hopkins simply because she was a woman, and they did not believe that she would be capable in the new role. Neo classical economists, however, state that this form of discrimination is logical for employers (Sawyer, 1989). This is due to the presence of uncertainty and asymmetric information, as well as the fact that employers are rational in their decision making. Although information is available in CVs, application forms, and other selection mechanisms, employers are still unable to be certain that any new employees will fully meet the criteria for ... The way the Amish people responded to the killings was such a shock. However, in the case of Islam, the relationship between religion and music is more strained, as Islamic law strictly forbids listening to music. However, there is a very strong religious debate on what constitutes music as diversion and what is acceptable to use in worship and religious purposes. There are two concepts in Islam which are relevant to this conversation: sama and ghina. The ghina is the simpler of the two, referring to music and performance associated with secular art music; this is normally banished. Ghina is the only genre which is referred to as music . The sama, on the other hand, is more complex. Sama, which literally means listening and thus, includes the music being listened to (as well as dance as performed by mystic societies) is more complex. The abundance of writings about the sama is chiefly due to the debate surrounding the legality of music and dance from a legal, mystical, and religious perspective. Some elements of music have been categorized as acceptable sama by religious authorities, including Koran cantillation, singing of unaccompanied hymns, old Bedouin songs, and simple functional folk songs used to mark events in a community or individual s life, thus considering them to be non music . Currently, Georgia Gwinnett College expanding with construction around the area, will this cause a disturbance where the campus will not be able to have biodiversity or having some disturbance can increase it? The research measured biodiversity in 5 different places around campus, these locations varying levels of disturbance and resources. After analysis, it was determined that sites further away from the stream at the downstream location had less biodiversity, and that the GGC site location had more biodiversity than both of the stream locations, which may be due to more diverse habitats with the location, or sharing more transition areas with areas of higher disturbance. Biodiversity is a variety of life on Earth at all levels from genes to ecosystems and the ecological and evolutionary process that is able to keep biodiversity in balance (Willington, 2005). Biodiversity is important because it satisfy s everyone including animals, organisms and humans basic needs such as food and water source and as well shelter(Wood, 1997). The results of the project were patented in 1975 and published in 1983. The first practical OLEDs: American physical chemist Ching W. Tang and Steven Van Slyke at Eastman Kodak built the first practical OLED device in 1987.This device used a two layer structure with separate hole transporting and electron transporting layers such that recombination and light emission occurred in the middle of the organic layer; this resulted in a reduction in operating voltage and improvements in efficiency. 3. Evolution: The discovery of the electroluminescence in organic crystals by Martin Pope and his research group in 1963 has opened a new era, especially in the field of OLEDs. However, the development of organic electroluminescence based devices is very slow due to the requirement of high voltage as well as for low efficiency. About 29 years ago, in 1987, Ching W. Tang and Steve Van Slyke have discovered the first efficient light emitting device based ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Preventing Complications From Gestational Diabetes Promotion of a Healthy Lifestyle to Prevent Complications from Gestational Diabetes Gestational diabetes, glucose intolerance with onset or first recognition occurring during pregnancy, is a problem more pregnant women are facing. The exact prevalence rate of gestational diabetes mellitus is unknown but in the United States it is estimated to affect anywhere from one to 14 percent of pregnancies (Desisto, Shin, Sharma, 2014). There are several risk factors which increase a woman s risk for gestational diabetes. Some of these risks include: family history of diabetes mellitus, previous history of gestational diabetes, advanced maternal age, previous infant weighing 9 pounds or more at birth, glycosuria, polycystic ovary syndrome, and ... Complications to the fetus include: macrosomia, hypoglycemia, neural tube defects, preterm delivery, shoulder dystocia, hyperbilirubinemia, and being large for gestational age (Elkins Smith Taylor, 2013) (Kim, 2010). So, the purpose of this paper is to discuss the care management strategies to promote a healthy lifestyle in obese pregnant women diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus, to control their gestational diabetes mellitus without the intervention of insulin treatment and to prevent complications from gestational diabetes mellitus. Care Management Process Expected Outcomes Gestational diabetes is a significant diagnosis in pregnancy but it is expected that obese women diagnosed with gestational diabetes will be able to control their diabetes without the intervention of insulin treatment. They should be able to do this through lifestyle changes. By controlling their gestational diabetes mellitus, the women will be able to reduce the risk or even prevent maternal complications and fetal complications associated with gestational diabetes mellitus. Assessments The first step in managing gestational diabetes to reduce risks of maternal and fetal complications, one must be diagnosed with it. To be diagnosed women go through a screening process. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Diabetes Association recommend that all women should have their initial screening ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. English Descriptive Narrative essay It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia. The air was fresh and the fog was rolling off of the dark green oak trees. These trees were scattered everywhere like grains of sand on a hot summer beach. The soft and lingering scent from the various kinds of flowers filled the air. This added a sense of happiness to everyone who was celebrating my uncle s wedding, especially my sisters and I. Before the wedding, people were gathered in large groups, everywhere, bickering with one another. Over 450 were people talking and suddenly a quietness came over the crowd. All of them were waiting on the same thing, that fairytale moment where two people come together with one thing in common, love. As everyone started to take their ... Walking with grace in every foot step, she came out from behind the stone wall in her long white dress covered in a very thin lace. Everyone was watching her. It was her day to celebrate. All eyes were on her. As I took a glance at the groom I knew this was a forever love. Tears rolled down his eyes faster and faster as his soon to be wife came out. He looked at her the same way as almost every character in a love story would. When they held eachothers hands and said their vows, I knew right then that this was a moment of truth. Some cried, others clapped, and some just watched in awe, of what looked like a bond that could not be broken. As the ceremony neared its end, everybody went their separate ways. • 31. Hubble Space Telescope Research Paper Hubble Space Telescope The Hubble Space Telescope is the first major telescope that was placed in space. It has been in operation for over twenty five years, and has greatly changed our knowledge of the universe. It can observe galaxies and stars that are very far away since it is not blocked at all by light pollution and smog that obstructs the views of the telescopes on Earth. Hubble is fascinating because it was and still is the most revolutionary telescope since Galileo first looked through one over four hundred years ago. Hubble played a large role in helping scientists discover and learn about many things like dark matter and dark energy, the age of the universe, and gamma ray bursts. None of these discoveries would have been possible without Hubble s unique view of the universe. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dark matter is a type of matter that is invisible, but accounts for most of the mass and structure of the universe. Hubble allowed scientists to observe how dark matter bends the light of galaxies that are far away through gravitational lensing. Scientists could then theorize about the existence of dark matter. Due to Hubble s unique viewpoint, scientists could also map where dark matter is located and how it is distributed in galaxies. Hubble also played a large role in the discovery of dark energy. Dark energy is a repulsive force that causes the universe to expand at a faster and faster rate. Hubble not only detected the presence of dark energy, but also that it has been around since almost the beginning of the universe. It was used to look back in time at supernovae, which are used to trace how the universe expanded. Only Hubble could be used for this task because telescopes on the ground would be unable to see these very distant and faint supernovae. Hubble changed the field of astronomy through its part in discovering dark matter and dark ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mention industrialization today, and it brings to mind large factories organized with the latest technologies in mass producing. Along with these visions comes the promise of more jobs for the community, higher rates of pay, and financial stability. One can only think of the positive influences on a community that the opening of a new factory could bring, but during what some have deemed the Industrial Revolution, industrialization only meant using machines and new power sources to accomplish a task formerly done by human and animal power. • 34. The Consequences Of The Truman Doctrine The foreign policy of the United States can be defined as a labyrinth a set of complex intricacies which either lack comprehension or are characterized by meticulous thought. Established during a period of ideological warfare and domestic hysteria, it is evident the Truman Doctrine was conceived with a disregard for the future stability of American international affairs. Engulfed within a period marked by massive power struggles and distorted accusations, the Truman Doctrine may appear minimal in regard to alterations of the United States international attitude. However, the Doctrine acted as a catalyst for the shift in America s foreign policy objectives and vision. It is clear the Truman Doctrine produced detrimental consequences in regard to the international policy of the United States, stability of foreign countries, and continuing repercussions in the modern day. Following the Allies victory in World War II, and preceding the historical period of the Red Scare, relations between the Soviet Union and the United States were relatively neutral (in spite of the drastically different ideological viewpoints). Contrary to popular belief the Doctrine was originally constructed to quell communist uprisings, it is clear the intention was to establish stability within European nations vital to the economic interests of the United States (Gaddis 11). As domestic tidings began to alter as a result of the Red Scare, the Doctrine would become a stigma for ideological conflict ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
