The Momentum Project is a 20-month partnership between the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) in the UK and the Ugandan Private Midwife's Association (UPMA) to support mentorship of midwives. Seven UK volunteer midwives were paired with seven Ugandan midwives to mentor them virtually and during exchanges. The project focused on one region, Wakiso, where midwives and students were trained in infection control, creating a productive learning environment, and leadership. Over 84 students and 40 mentors participated and saw improvements in skills and the work environment. To scale the program, more support is needed for volunteer time off, preparation, understanding of contexts, and qualitative evaluation of outcomes.
