Introduction to jOOQ
Introduction to jOOQ
Kostadin Golev
Are you tired of Hibernate? Is GORM is too heavy for your current project? Do you like having more control over your SQL? Do you like flexible DSLs? Try JOOQ! JOOQ (Java Object Oriented Querying) is light-weight alternative to classic data access solutions or ORMs like Hibernate, JPA, JDBC, and GORM. JOOQ's goal is to give the developer a flexible DSL for building typesafe, database agnostic SQL queries, and attempts to convince the developer of a ‘database-first’ approach to building their application. In this talk we’ll quickly present an introduction to JOOQ from a high level, discuss its features, and see several examples of how we’re using JOOQ to great effect with many Spring Boot and Ratpack apps within our platform.

Millions of websites depend on the WordPress.org infrastructure every day. Parts of it is almost a decade old, ancient in software terms, and most of it is not even based on WordPress itself. At the time of WordCamp San Antonio, we will hopefully have finished a project that drastically modernizes the theme repository and moves to over to a WordPress installation, complete with a redesigned front-end and a more robust backend. This session will go over the changes involved, and will look into how WordPress.org works and what the underlying structure of it looks like.

SQL in the City presentation 2016 - Dan Nolan. Managing individual database scripts is often seen as slow, old-fashioned and error-prone. But how times have changed! With more teams automating deployments, script-based change processes (sometimes called “Migrations”) are undergoing a renaissance. When the SQL is visible up-front, an exact change can be rehearsed through progressively more realistic test environments, so that deployment contains no surprises. In this session, Daniel and Elizabeth will introduce ReadyRoll, a script-based system for managing and deploying database changes. After dispelling old myths about script-based methods, they will show how scripts can be the foundation for a reliable, repeatable process that software developers love.

So you’ve released an open source project to the world, people are using it …the hard part is done, right? No, far from it. Open sourcing a project is only a fraction of the effort that will go into it over time. Come to this talk to earn how to triage and determine levels of support for issues that come into your projects (open source users are customers!). Also learn how to handle when something goes wrong – whether it is with your own project or an upstream project two levels up from yours. Walk away knowing how to handle the hardest (and most rewarding) parts of open source governance.

How many times have you been asked to deliver on metrics that did not make sense, that were counterproductive to the team's effectiveness, or that were seemingly impossible to collect? Often times, the metrics being collected are the ones that are easy, but not necessarily the ones that matter. In some cases, metrics can even have a demoralizing or counterproductive effect on the team! When it comes to software delivery, lean and agile practices and methodologies have clearly taken the lead. In the spirit of Kaizen, this session will take a look at the measures we can and should collect from agile teams, why these metrics are relevant and interesting, and how we can use them to help our teams continuously improve. Key Learnings: Why is it so difficult to identify meaningful metrics in the software world? What are the best types of quality focused metrics to focus on in an agile organization? Examples of good, bad, and ugly metrics, as well as how to analyze and interpret them

In March of 2011 I was named as the first initiative owner for Drupal 8. I was excited and proud and itching to get going, but I felt one emotion more than any other - paralyzing fear. The Drupal community is filled with talented engineers, but moving from coder to project manager and community leader can be incredibly difficult. This session will outline some of the lessons I've learned about our community and the ways to (or more often not to) get it moving towards a goal.

The standard Salesforce Approval process can be limiting in many ways, especially in complex scenarios. What if there was a way to implement very flexible approvals where one can use Apex code to make data updates in unrelated records, dynamically generate next steps details, and compute assignees on the fly? And still use UI-based configurations to implement concrete approval processes. In this session, we will share ideas behind such a solution and show a few lines of code to get you started.
