Why I Am At Night
One evening earlier this year, I needed to print a few pages for an assignment, but my computer
printer was malfunctioning in my dorm room. I couldn t believe this was happening to me. I just had a
long stressful day and now this. My roommate noticed that I was frustrated and was fussing with the
printer. He asked me what s wrong and I explained the situation. He suggested that I went upstairs to
use the printers on the 9th floor computer lab in South Quad. I have never been up there before so I
decided to go give it a try. It happened to be 11pm at night and I thought there was going to be no one
up there this late, but I was wrong. Surprisingly, there were actually a lot of people in there for being
late at night. What could they be possibly doing at this time of night? Most of the students were doing
some sort of homework, whether it was engineering coding or writing a paper. The remaining students
were streaming some sort of show on an online television provider, most likely watching Netflix. I
thought to myself, are there always people up here? Why wouldn t they be doing this work on a
private computer, such as a laptop, where no one can see what I m doing? I grabbed my papers that I
had printed then precede back down to my dorm room.
The following morning after my 10am lecture in Angel Hall, I noticed that the larger cyber station
called the Fishbowl was filled with students on the computers. Almost all of the computer stations
were filled with students who

Networking Applications Essay
Emerging Applications: Networking Applications Prof Fred Rose Harish Nayaka In this section, we
see the characteristics of networking applications What to do what not to do is then thing to be
considered 3.1 Computational to memory operations ratio Figure 1 shows the instruction distributions
for MiBench benchmark suite [3] containing a networking benchmark as its subset. Similarly, figure 2
shows the instruction distributions for a set of applications used in [4] that characterize different
network processor architectures. From these two figures, there is a fair amount of computational
operations to memory operation whereas branch operations occur very infrequently. Figure 2 1. IP

Though he has written the storyline quite well, his execution is below par. There is nothing great to
rave about in the film as a good sequence is followed by some silly and boring elements. He has failed
to create the depth which a patriotic film needs and showcases the film in just an ordinary note. Figure

both alternate plans. Transmission time Figure 7 This is the transmission times in a highly congested

network levels. The hybrid scheme performs better than both the other schemes. Total Latency Figure

The Pennsylvania Fresh Food Financing Initiative is a public private partnership, created in 2004 by
the Pennsylvania state. It helped to create new supermarkets and refurbish or replace equipment at
existing stores. The eligible stores were located in a low income areas that were underserved, and to
eligible for funding they agree to provide a full selection of fresh foods. The partnership funded more
than 83 projects across Pennsylvania involving major national chains and smaller independent stores.
Over the years the project has resulted in the creation and retention of about 5,000 jobs and 1.4 million
square feet of retail space. Evidence from the program shows that adding more supermarkets with the
access to high quality fruit and vegetable in an undeserved areas result in improved availability and an
increased variety of foods in the community. It also shows that they are on the verge of reducing the
high incidence of diet related diseases by providing healthy food (Department of Health and Human

Juliet takes her mothers line The County Paris, at Saint Peter s Church shall happily make you there a
joyful bride. Juliet changes it to a negative, responding to her mother with By Saint Peter s Church
and Peter too, he shall not make me there a joyful bride. Therefore this shows Juliet is completely
against marrying Paris and does not agree that Paris will make her a Joyful bride . At this point Juliet s
mother is outsmarted by Juliet s intelligence and responds with Here comes your father. Tell him so
yourself, and see how he will take it at your hands. This shows that Lady Capulet does not have
control over her daughter and passes it over to Lord Capulet to deal with because she is weak and is
frightened of her husband because he is controlling. Then Juliet s father enters and he is furious that
Juliet is refusing to marry Paris. Shakespeare shows this by using rhetorical questions, by using
rhetorical questions this shows that Lord Capulet is not willing to give Juliet a chance to speak or
answer any of his questions. Lord Capulet s anger results in him threatening Juliet. He uses the phrase
My fingers itch. This means he wants to hit Juliet because she has refused to marry Paris. Juliet feels
so angry she is acting strong and she defies her father, but in that action she learns the limit of her
power. Disobedient as she

Equality Between Women And Men Essay
Equality between Women and Men, or Gender Equality, means equality of rights and freedoms. For
equal opportunities for participation, recognition and appreciation of women and men, In all areas of
society, political, economic, labor, personal and family.
Thus, more and more profound changes are taking place in the traditionally and social construction of
gender roles according to sex, leading to a conception of the masculine and differentiated and
hierarchical in terms of importance, according to which they were attributed to the man roles and

In fact, new realities to this commonly accepted concept of the familiar model appeared, because of

several family models (single parent families, reconstituted families, families of dual professions) in
which the dominant emphasis is on the fact that both elements of the couple to have an active attitude
towards work, with women taking a more participation in the public sphere.
Speaking about Gender Equality today is so fundamental, especially if we observe that the Women s
participation in the labour market was not accompanied by growth of men s in the family role.

moves on to get more money. Yvette distances herself from Duddy and takes over a fulltime job
helping Virgil live his everyday life. These events are all the consequences of Duddy s greed, just so

I wish we could get up one day, summon everyone and say we ve cured the disease, but it s just not

horrible disease. The diagnosis of cancer is one that is hard for anyone to absorb; knowing they have a
long journey ahead of them filled with trying times and dark days. To someone facing this horrible
disease the only comfort they have is the use of an outdated unsuccessful treatment practice of chemo

Although Capote highlights the unexpectedness of the murders of the Clutter family, his primary
objective is to show Perry s duplicitous nature, therefore, indicating that society needs to closely

juxtaposition to demonstrate Perry s humanity and Dick s lack of emotion. While Perry and Dick were

New Home
Anticipation mounted as they pulled into the driveway of their new home. This time, it was going to
be different. They were no longer renters, but bona fide homeowners. No one would ever be able to
evict them again. Relieved it was a single level house, they didn t have to worry about screens
popping out a second story window. It did not have a porch with steps or garage, but it did have a
basement and a large backyard.
Molly, Susan, and Beth greeted the fearless foursome at the front door. Reunited as a family, they all
squealed with delight at their new home. Standing in the entryway, the living room stood immediately
to the left with the kitchen directly ahead. The kitchen had a sliding door hidden in the wall. Walking
through the living room, crossing to the left stood a doorway that led to three bedrooms and a single
bathroom for the nine member family.
Max planned to remodel the house in stages, beginning on the third bedroom first. All seven children
shared one bedroom while demolition began on the third bedroom, making it into a dining room
adjacent to the living room. Two sets of bunk beds and a single cot filled the entire bedroom. The
cramped room had minimal space to walk between the beds. Kate and Millie quickly discovered they
could hop from bed to bed without touching the floor.
Remodeling began that very day. Using a sledgehammer, everyone took a turn smashing the east wall
of the living room. They ripped a huge hole into the wall, taking turns hopping back

The East Deals With Church And State In The Byzantium
The Byzantium recognized church and state as corresponding parts of the whole empire. This
obviously caused problems because church and state has their own authority. This made it difficult to
decide which one has more authority. This especially causes feuds in the West, due to not agreeing on
whom had the power. The East, however differed with the West in this. In the East their structure was
symphonia aka they had harmony, between each to.(pg.129). Church and State worked together and
the differences of power was not an issue. I actually agree with how the East dealt with church and
state. I feel when it comes to political or religious agreements, you should collaborate and pay
attention to how everyone thinks and feels. For example,

Understanding Vs. Knowing in Atwood’s Oryx and Crake Essay
It is often simpler to settle for an understanding of the world and people around us instead of trying to
know the truth. Truth has consequences; by knowing too much, one can lose a friend, learn a deadly
secret, or become someone they do not want to be. To express his understanding of himself and the
world around him, Crake in Oryx and Crake uses quote bearing fridge magnets. One very important
quote is We understand more than we know . It is important to recognize the difference between the
terms understand and know ; the Oxford English Dictionary defines to understand as to perceive the
significance, explanation, or cause of, whereas to know is to be absolutely certain or sure about
something. There is certainly a difference, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there are many characteristics that remain uncontrolled in the Crakers, and these people
eventually begin to create art and place both Oryx and Crake in God like positions in their society:
two things against which Crake had warned. Crake s understanding of biology and psychology leads
the Crakers to initially have none of humanity s flaws. This shows Crake s grand understanding of
biology, but not any knowledge of how these people will soon acquire notions of art, gods, or
symbolism. He has done few trials, and consequently has little evidence to prove that the Children of
Crake will be successful.
Furthermore, Crake is able to understand Jimmy s incredible attraction to Oryx from the first time they
glimpse her on the HottTotts website. He saves her image, possibly with the intentions of one day
finding this girl to use against Jimmy. What Crake understands is Jimmy s love for Oryx, but what he
doesn t know is that Jimmy will choose in the end to not let him and Oryx re enter the Paradice Dome.
Jimmy accepts that for complete renewal of the human race, not only Crake, but Oryx as well, must
die, for both have sinned against the potential goodness of humanity and she is a hinge in Crake s
attempt to re enter Paradice (DiMarco 191). Whereas Jimmy had been known to Crake to be one to be
fearful and easily controlled, this time he takes a powerful stance against Crake s plan and proves that

The Importance Of Human Trafficking
Human trafficking is the ideal kidnapping of the century. Human trafficking is the most harmful crime
that should be taken seriously because of this crime it hurts young women and girls of all ages. Some
say that the crime might be reported, but it doesn t mean it s noticed. There is all the information on it,
the bad info, and ways to solve it, and ways to prevent it from happening to others. With this crime
being the most unnoticed reported crime, people should help solve it.
Human trafficking is the most hurtful and dangerous thing in the 21st century. It s ruining people s
families, and the world doesn t know about this kind of information because of the police force (etc.),
they keep it from getting out. They think that if they keep it from getting out no one will know, but I
think if people found out they will be willing to help out. Human trafficking is a crime against
humanity. We must unite our efforts to free victims and stop this crime that s becoming more
aggressive, that threatens not just individuals, but the foundational values of society. (Pope Francis).
So as you can see human trafficking should be the most important thing for society today because of
the number of lives they re taking away from their own families. However, human trafficking in people
s eyes is a serious crime and a grave violation of human rights.

Characteristics Of A Nucleotide Substitutions Essay
are G to A nucleotide substitutions. Consequently, these nucleotide substitutions result in three amino
acid substitutions; arginine to cysteine, glycine to aspartic acid, and glycine to glutamic acid,
respectively . All three mutations occur within the collagen domain changing its ability to oligomerize
(the mutant forms). The wild type is termed allele A while the structural variants B, C and D are often
gathered and referred to as zero (0) .
Despite their uneven distribution in human populations, MBL gene variants are quite frequent . The
frequencies of allele B are 0.14 among Caucasians, 0.25 among Asians and 0.50 among indigenous
South Americans. However, allele B is extremely rare in West Africa. On the other hand, allele C is
rare among Caucasians but common in sub Saharan Africa. Generally, Allele D is rather uncommon
and to great extent is restricted to North Africans and Caucasians .
The high incidence of structural variants among populations throughout the world may confer
biological advantages as individuals heterozygous for B, C, and D may be protected against some
intracellular pathogens i.e. Mycobacteria species and Leishmania species .
Furthermore, studies of Madsen and his colleagues revealed two common promoter polymorphisms in
the upstream promoter region. They are of importance and can affect MBL serum level. These
polymorphisms are found at positions 550 (H/L variant, where L is the wild type allele) and 221 (X/Y
variant, where Y is the

Essay on Sun Chief
The religion detailed and examined throughout Don Talayesva s Sun Chief can be difficult to
understand and near impossible to appreciate. At first glance to the casual reader it can appear shallow
and ridiculous; a religion created around the wants and needs of the Hopi but not based on any
empirical or even supposed sacred evidence. When coupled with The Sacred Canopy however, the
reader begins to understand the simplistic beauty of their religion providing necessary guidance and

It is not fair for any religion to dismiss another as absurd, because of the inherent differences in what
different religions include or consider miracles , oracles , or rituals . Opposing religions consider each
other ridiculous equally and their own dogma is revered as true equally. To Don Talayesva as a child,
Christianity was nothing more than something white people talked about while he waited for their free
clothing or candy. This is soundly equivalent to the care and consideration non Hopis give to the
thought of dancing for rain. In terms of nomos, the Hopis religion served just as well as any could
have. At birth babies are born onto sacred sand. When they need rain for crops, the Katcinas dance in
the plaza. To live a healthy life and bear many children, Hopi s have intercourse with the Salt Woman.
These rituals and traditions make sense to the Hopi and provide mental security. It shields them from
terror and imposes a meaningful order upon reality, as put in The Sacred Canopy. The Hopi can use
their religion to eschew helplessness and a fear of being spiritually alone in the world. It provides
them with answers and makes them calm and happy. These qualities make their religion successful as
defined by The Sacred Canopy s requirement of nomization for a meaningful life. From the
perspective of a non Hopi, their religion would probably be viewed as a convenient set of beliefs and
practices thought up by a group of

Colleges Should Require Class Attendance
Does your attendance record reflect your final grade in college? No not because the professor will
mark you down a certain percentage of your grade, but because of the relationship between students
that show up for class and the ones that regularly skip. When I started attending college, I was a bit
confused why such a large percentage of students weren t attending class. It seemed as the quarter
moved further along, class attendance went down. After spending a bit of time on google, I found a
few statistics that reflect why I believe class attendance should be mandatory. On the contrary, some
students will say that they should have the freedom to decide if they want to go to class, because they
are now adults. However, to improve students grades and school drop out rates. Colleges should
require class attendance. Building in class continuity will help prepare young adults for the work
world and requiring class attendance will help develop students for a thriving career. Fortunately, in
grade school you are required to go to school. If you don t there will be some form of consequences.

Differences Between The Movie And The Last Of The Mohicans
The movie Last of the Mohicans is based on the novel by James Fenimore Cooper. Like the book the
movie revolves around the storyline of the Native American tribe the Mohicans. The main characters,
both in the movie and the novel are Hawkeye, who is adopted into the Mohican tribe; Chingachgook,
Hawkeye s adoptive father; and Uncas, Hawkeye s adoptive brother. Chingach gook and his son
Uncas carry the last drops of the Mohican bloodline. The storyline takes place during the seven years
war between the French and British. In the movie, it romanticizes the elements of war and race
relations in eighteenth century America. The Mohicans and Hawkeye attempt to save the children of a

law have their difficulties, so trying to master a difficult field without professional help can lead to
making mistakes, and these legal errors can potentially set you back and prove to be very

The Theory Of The Mind
The mind is both rational and consciously aware in situations that demand a reactive response. It acts
as a control system that communicates between the external world and the spiritual being, allowing
reasoning to take play. For years, philosophers have hypothesized ways to identify the minds function
and capabilities. Causing both controversy and accord, these philosophers center their theories on
rationalism and take a methodical approach towards understanding the complexity of the mind.
René Descartes believed that the mind is free Cogito ergo sum, I think, therefore I am. The mind
involves thinking, which consists of an imagination, logic, and doubt. This relates to the concept that
one actually exists and they have absolute certainty of the truth. The thinking thing, Ras Cognitus, is
separate from the physical things, Res Extensa. Everyone is innately born with ideas; these ideas are a
priori from before, which help people conceptualize what is real and what is not. Nonetheless,
Descartes explained that there is no actual certainty of the senses because it might fool the eye and can
cause an underlying deceit of the hidden truth of what is actually real. Descartes was an intriguing
philosopher because he believed that the human body was dualistic. He believed that the mind, the
nonphysical substance, cannot affect the physical world. In other words, the mind is separate from the
body; therefore one cannot affect the other. Notably, he emphasized that the body

Anger In The Manciple s Tale By Geoffrey Chaucer
History has a way of repeating itself. Mistakes made by earlier civilizations are re made in modern
day. It is true that people learn from their mistakes, but it is what they are ignorant of that gets
repeated. If people knew something was morally wrong, they would avoid doing it. If they were raised
to believe it was right, they would still do it, thinking they are doing right. Not only bad things have a
reincarnation in the future, but good things as well. Even a manner of which a society of the past acts
can be mirrored in the modern world. Authors have studied these occurrences and applied them in

exemplified as a materially poor person but spiritually rich. She can resist temptation because she

monk. They have no money, for they have taken a vow of poverty, but they remain spiritually rich.
Being spiritually rich means they leave behind family, possessions, and worldly position, and even the
outer marks of personal identity, symbolized by hair, beard, and wardrobe (Bhikkhu Bodhi). They
trust in God, and are strong followers of their faith, like Constance. Since The monastic lifestyle

The Impact Of Media On The Performance Of Gender
Evaluate the role of media in the performance of gender. Media is the most powerful tool of
communication in today s society, and it represents a constructive role, as without media it wouldn t
be possible to collect any knowledge and information. Media has an essential role of representing
differences as well constructing them; it presents differences regards to race, culture, and many other
structural variables in a certain way, yet within all the differences gender binary is conspicuous from
the birth. Media has a responsible role in the society, due to the fact that its construction of
masculinity and femininity images has a significant influence on how the individual s life is lead. The
way media represents gender has changed throughout the history, and still changes over time, and
these changes implicates our everyday lives albeit we are conscious of it or not. It is initially crucial to
engage with the theories about the complexities of gender, and gain an in depth insight of how one can
perform gender in order to understand the impact of media on shaping our lives through constructing
our understanding of gender. Secondly, after comprehending media s massive influence on our
perception, analysing contemporary media examples will be helpful to embody this impact on our
identities, and everyday lives.
From the very beginning of our lives, gender is the most outstanding difference that distinguishes one
from another, yet gender is much more complex than we would

Cardiac Muscle Cell
The cardiac muscle cell embraces most of the hearts mass. It plays the most important significant role
in the heart, pumping blood through the heart and into the body. It s a long life source, which never

The cardiac muscle is strong and has a long durability, which sustains its unique heartbeat. The
Cardiac hearts muscle has the capability to spread rapid electrochemical signals throughout the body,

Summary Of The Movie Jaws
Jaws

Jaws is based on book written by Peter Benchley which is loosely based around the shark attacks of
1916 along the US eastern coast. Peter Benchley co wrote the screenplay with Carl Gottlieb. Jaws is
tagged as an action and adventure, mystery and suspense, thriller and is intended for older audiences
(PG 13). Jaws main characters are: Broody (Police Chief) played by actor Roy Scheider, Quint
(Fisherman) played by actor Robert Shaw, Hooper (Scientist) played by Richard Dreyfuss. Other Jaws
top billed actors/actresses are: Lorraine Gary (Ellen Brody), Murray Hamilton (Mayor Vaughn) . Jaws

After finding evidence of a shark attack Chief Brody intends to close the beaches, however Mayor
Vaughn and several other key islanders are flat against the beach closing, mainly for economic
reasons. Chief Brody initially backs down about the beach closings, however once the shark attacks
came again to the shores of Amity, the beaches were closed. It was an island consensus to hire a shark
killer (Quint) to solve the problem, regardless of the hefty fee he charged. It turned out not to be so
simple a problem especially for Quint. Once the size of the shark was estimated it created another
issue for Amity with the very limited equipment and expertise they had available on the small, isolated
island, they had to reach out for expert help (Matt Hooper, Oceanographer). As Jaws continued to
attack Amity s beaches it was finally seen for its actual size, that is when Chief Brody made the
statement of you re gonna need a bigger boat , which was not written in the original screenplay and
has become known as the most memorable line in the movie. Jaws is suspense filled and the music
score for the shark attack was developed perfectly to create further suspense, while the music played

Simultaneous bilingualism describes a situation in which a child learns more than one language from
birth, meaning they are spoken to in both languages on a regular basis. If this occurs throughout the
final stages of language development, the child will be able to fluently speak and understand both
languages; both languages are considered the child s first speaking language. On the other hand,
sequential bilingualism occurs when a second language is not learned as a native language but taught
as a foreign language instead (Rowe, B. M., amp; Levine, D. P., 2006). This could occur in an
immigrant family, for example, perhaps the parents do not speak the native tongue of the community,
so the children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that code switching comes in as a factor supporting the unitary language systems hypothesis
moves me in the direction that ultimately sequential bilingualism makes the most sense. We must keep
in mind, though, that the abilities of language learners become influenced not only by their innate
abilities, but by society, the community they live in, their family life, and other outside influences
which could assist or impair linguistic competence. Overall, whether a child learns a language from
birth and is spoken to in those languages on a regular basis like in simultaneous bilingualism, or if
they learn a language foreign to them later in life as in sequential bilingualism, the fact that the human
brain can process and communicate in so many ways is miraculous.

The Law Enforcement Is Cracking Down Harder Than A Little...
These days, it seems like almost everyone you know is getting caught behind the wheel with a little
too much spirit. Law enforcement is cracking down harder than ever on drunk driving, to the point
where even one beverage could get you into big trouble!
So, what exactly are the stats? In 2012, in Arizona alone, there were 32,174 DUI arrests. In 2013, the
number was 31,892. And in 2014, there were 28,471 DUI arrests. While the numbers are somewhat
decreasing, they are still very high. (For more on these statistics see: DUI Arrests Down for 3rd Year
on Arizona Highways ).
The consequences of a DUI, driving under the influence, (also known as a DWI, driving while
impaired) are harsh. Below are the DUI Dos and Don ts you need to know in case you get behind the
wheel after drinking, get pulled over, and/or find yourself facing DUI charges:
DO know the amount of tolerable blood alcohol content (BAC) for you. If you are under 21, there is a
ZERO TOLERANCE policy. No alcohol whatsoever is acceptable. If you are 21 or older, you are
permitted to drive with a BAC of .08%. If you are a commercial driver with a commercial license, a
BAC of .04% is allowed.
DO know the consequences if you refuse a chemical test. Arizona has an IMPLIED CONSENT LAW.
This means that if you are pulled over and refuse to submit to a chemical test, you will automatically
be subject to a fine and suspension of your license anywhere from one to two years.

Writing And Writing Of Beowulf
When someone says Beowulf what usually comes to mind is the 4,000 line epic poem. Instead think of
Beowulf: The Graphic Novel. A Scandinavian classic portrayed in a series of vividly colored
illustrations. While English majors and Literature enthusiasts alike cringe at such a decimation of
literary art, teachers jump for joy at a potential reading tool. In our ever changing society, novels are
being translated into comics, graphic novels, and even manga. The illustrated pages should be used to
promote reading and writing.
Everyone can recognize a novel as a book that tells a fictional story. Not many people know about
comic books, graphic novels and manga. There is a difference between these picture books. Comic
books were traditionally staple bound, but during the recent resurgence they were hardbound to better
endure wear and tear. Comics center themselves around the misadventures of its protagonist. Graphic
novels focus more on telling a single story. Graphic novels are bound like paperback books. Manga is
originally the Japanese version of comics. Manga can be viewed as a cross between comics and
graphic novels. It most often consists of a group s misadventures on the way to achieving a goal.
Manga is also bound as a paperback, and its most distinct attribute is the book reads right to left
instead of left to right.

Compare And Contrast The Russian Revolution And Chinese...
Throughout history, many countries have called for revolutions whose goals and outcomes affected the
government during its time, in order to enforce a change in the current form of government. In 1911, a
revolution was led by Sun Yat Sen in China between the imperial government or the Qing and the
nationalists. China s revolution s eventual outcome led to a conflict between the communists and the
nationalists in China whose goals contrasted each other significantly. During World War I, a revolution
in Russia occurred, led by Vladimir Lenin in 1917. The revolution in Russia affected the proletariat,
the Bourgeoisie, and the corrupted leadership of the Tsarist government as a whole. Although these
distinct revolutions occurred in two different countries, their outcomes are similar as they both show
how communism and the inequality of the workers and classes impacted the countries both
economically and politically.

not supported by the peasants living in urban areas and the demands of the agrarian population were
not satisfied. Lenin was able to better meet the goals of every interest group while promoting Marx in

The Age Of Enlightenment By Voltaire
1. Do some research on Voltaire and his beliefs as well as the era in which he wrote, which was the
Age of Enlightenment. Be sure to cite your sources of information.
The Age of Enlightenment occurred from the 1620s until the 1780s. This movement began in England,
and steadily spread almost worldwide before long. The term Enlightenment was used to contrast the
Dark Ages, a time in which innovation and free thinking was at an all time low. Voltaire s French
philosophy included free thinking and the struggle for defense of civil liberties, in which he uses
almost every known literary form, including novels, poetry, and performance art such as plays. His
intellectual skepticism of traditional beliefs and dogmas denotes an illumined contrast to the supposed
dark and superstitious character of the Middle Ages.

the intention bringing about change. How do Voltaire use techniques such as irony, sarcasm, and
understatement for his satirical purposes? Give some examples from throughout the book.
Voltaire uses irony and satire in many different situations during the story. A prime example of these
literary forms can be found in the form of religion, for example when the Catholic Inquisitor speaks

According to Mohr and Fourie (2004), the tax burden should be spread equitably among the various
taxpayers. Equitability (fairness) can be described using two principles, the ability to pay principle and
the benefits received principle.
Benefits received principle, according to Case et al (2014), is a fairness/equity theory that says citizens
should contribute in proportion to the benefits that they receive from the public expenditure. E Tolling
is a good example of this as it conforms to the benefits received principle, where e toll users pay for
their usage of the toll roads in proportion to the benefits they derive/receive. SANRAL is charging a
levy/tax that has to be paid for the usage of the road. If you use the road more than other ... Show

Tax systems should not discriminate between people within the same income range (they are similar
with respect to their ability to pay) and their tax rate should be the same. For example, income taxes
are proportional within particular income ranges. This means that citizens in the same income range
will bear the same tax burden.
Vertical equity is a principle that says citizens with a greater ability to pay taxes should pay more
(Case et al, 2014). According to Parry, I.W.H. 2008, toll fees are unfair from the perspective of vertical
equity, given that everyone faces the same toll fees regardless of their income. The poor pays the same
30c/km as the rich, even though the rich have a greater ability to pay. For example, income taxes are
progressive in nature, meaning that they conform to vertical equity. This means that higher income
earners will bear a higher tax burden while lower income earners will bear a lower tax burden.
E Toll rates are charged at a flat rate of 30c/km and this means that it s neither vertically nor
horizontally equitable. The poor ends up paying a higher proportion of their income compared to the
rich and this in turn makes e Tolling regressive, even though the rich have greater ability to pay.
The vertical and horizontal equity principles stem from the ability to pay principle and both systems
seem to be fair.

Japanese Cultural Values
Cultural Values in Comparison with the United States
According to Murai, adjusting to the Japanese culture is often challenging for foreign companies (1).
Some global firms such McDonalds and Starbucks have entered the Japanese market and positioned
themselves as respected brands through adapting to the prevailing culture. However, others have
struggled to win the minds and hearts of the discerning Japanese customers. The difference between
the successful and not so successful firms is that the latter employed the right steps to understand and
address the cultural differences and utilized them as vital resources. According to Geert Hofstede s Six
Dimensions of National Culture (qtd. in Ferraro and Briody 31), different states have different cultural
assumptions and value attachment dimensions, which represent the independent preferences of a
specific state of affairs over another that differentiates countries from each other (Hofstede Insights 1).

  • 2. Why I Am At Night One evening earlier this year, I needed to print a few pages for an assignment, but my computer printer was malfunctioning in my dorm room. I couldn t believe this was happening to me. I just had a long stressful day and now this. My roommate noticed that I was frustrated and was fussing with the printer. He asked me what s wrong and I explained the situation. He suggested that I went upstairs to use the printers on the 9th floor computer lab in South Quad. I have never been up there before so I decided to go give it a try. It happened to be 11pm at night and I thought there was going to be no one up there this late, but I was wrong. Surprisingly, there were actually a lot of people in there for being late at night. What could they be possibly doing at this time of night? Most of the students were doing some sort of homework, whether it was engineering coding or writing a paper. The remaining students were streaming some sort of show on an online television provider, most likely watching Netflix. I thought to myself, are there always people up here? Why wouldn t they be doing this work on a private computer, such as a laptop, where no one can see what I m doing? I grabbed my papers that I had printed then precede back down to my dorm room. The following morning after my 10am lecture in Angel Hall, I noticed that the larger cyber station called the Fishbowl was filled with students on the computers. Almost all of the computer stations were filled with students who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Similarly, figure 2 shows the instruction distributions for a set of applications used in [4] that characterize different network processor architectures. From these two figures, there is a fair amount of computational operations to memory operation whereas branch operations occur very infrequently. Figure 2 1. IP forward performs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though he has written the storyline quite well, his execution is below par. There is nothing great to rave about in the film as a good sequence is followed by some silly and boring elements. He has failed to create the depth which a patriotic film needs and showcases the film in just an ordinary note. Figure 6 This relies upon the quantity of system connects to achieve the archive that we require. Disagreeable archives: Both plans encounter long association times Medium prevalence: Hierarchical stores give better association times Exceptionally well known reports: Not much contrast between the 2 plans This shows how a crossover reserve with 4 collaborating processors plays out somewhat superior to both alternate plans. Transmission time Figure 7 This is the transmission times in a highly congested network scenario. Distributed routing has lower transmission times as documents travel over lower network levels. The hybrid scheme performs better than both the other schemes. Total Latency Figure 8 These graphs show a bimodal distribution where we can see significant latency reductions (peaks around 95% to 100%) or little to no reduction (peak at around 0%). Thus for these models a web request can see a significant latency reduction or little or no reduction. 4.4 Cache placement/ replacement These policies try to minimize various cost metrics such as hit rate, byte hit rate, average latency ... This shows Crake s grand understanding of biology, but not any knowledge of how these people will soon acquire notions of art, gods, or symbolism. The wild type is termed allele A while the structural variants B, C and D are often gathered and referred to as zero (0) . Despite their uneven distribution in human populations, MBL gene variants are quite frequent . The frequencies of allele B are 0.14 among Caucasians, 0.25 among Asians and 0.50 among indigenous South Americans. However, allele B is extremely rare in West Africa. It acts as a control system that communicates between the external world and the spiritual being, allowing reasoning to take play. For years, philosophers have hypothesized ways to identify the minds function and capabilities. Causing both controversy and accord, these philosophers center their theories on rationalism and take a methodical approach towards understanding the complexity of the mind. René Descartes believed that the mind is free Cogito ergo sum, I think, therefore I am. The mind involves thinking, which consists of an imagination, logic, and doubt. This relates to the concept that one actually exists and they have absolute certainty of the truth. The thinking thing, Ras Cognitus, is separate from the physical things, Res Extensa. Everyone is innately born with ideas; these ideas are a priori from before, which help people conceptualize what is real and what is not. Nonetheless, Descartes explained that there is no actual certainty of the senses because it might fool the eye and can cause an underlying deceit of the hidden truth of what is actually real. • 31. Writing And Writing Of Beowulf When someone says Beowulf what usually comes to mind is the 4,000 line epic poem. Instead think of Beowulf: The Graphic Novel. The characters that were educated were the characters that were rich and were already living Wuthering Heights before Heathcliff s arrival with Mr. Earnshaw. The education did help some characters understand each other like Edgar and Catherine. They both like being educated and as Catherine said Edgar understood her. However, the lack of education made some characters like Heathcliff much harder and stronger, and cruel than any other character. It was also hard for them to understand other characters like Edgar. • 37. The Age Of Enlightenment By Voltaire 1. Do some research on Voltaire and his beliefs as well as the era in which he wrote, which was the Age of Enlightenment. Be sure to cite your sources of information. The Age of Enlightenment occurred from the 1620s until the 1780s. This movement began in England, and steadily spread almost worldwide before long. The term Enlightenment was used to contrast the Dark Ages, a time in which innovation and free thinking was at an all time low. Voltaire s French philosophy included free thinking and the struggle for defense of civil liberties, in which he uses almost every known literary form, including novels, poetry, and performance art such as plays. His intellectual skepticism of traditional beliefs and dogmas denotes an illumined contrast to the supposed dark and superstitious character of the Middle Ages. http://www.pbs.org/faithandreason/gengloss/enlight body.html 2. • 38. According to Mohr and Fourie (2004), the tax burden should... According to Mohr and Fourie (2004), the tax burden should be spread equitably among the various taxpayers. Equitability (fairness) can be described using two principles, the ability to pay principle and the benefits received principle. Benefits received principle, according to Case et al (2014), is a fairness/equity theory that says citizens should contribute in proportion to the benefits that they receive from the public expenditure. E Tolling is a good example of this as it conforms to the benefits received principle, where e toll users pay for their usage of the toll roads in proportion to the benefits they derive/receive. Tax systems should not discriminate between people within the same income range (they are similar with respect to their ability to pay) and their tax rate should be the same. For example, income taxes are proportional within particular income ranges. This means that citizens in the same income range will bear the same tax burden. Vertical equity is a principle that says citizens with a greater ability to pay taxes should pay more (Case et al, 2014). According to Parry, I.W.H. 2008, toll fees are unfair from the perspective of vertical equity, given that everyone faces the same toll fees regardless of their income. The poor pays the same 30c/km as the rich, even though the rich have a greater ability to pay. For example, income taxes are progressive in nature, meaning that they conform to vertical equity. This means that higher income earners will bear a higher tax burden while lower income earners will bear a lower tax burden. E Toll rates are charged at a flat rate of 30c/km and this means that it s neither vertically nor horizontally equitable. The poor ends up paying a higher proportion of their income compared to the rich and this in turn makes e Tolling regressive, even though the rich have greater ability to pay. The vertical and horizontal equity principles stem from the ability to pay principle and both systems seem to be fair. 2.4 The tax incidence of an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Japanese Cultural Values Cultural Values in Comparison with the United States According to Murai, adjusting to the Japanese culture is often challenging for foreign companies (1). Some global firms such McDonalds and Starbucks have entered the Japanese market and positioned themselves as respected brands through adapting to the prevailing culture. However, others have struggled to win the minds and hearts of the discerning Japanese customers. The difference between the successful and not so successful firms is that the latter employed the right steps to understand and address the cultural differences and utilized them as vital resources. According to Geert Hofstede s Six Dimensions of National Culture (qtd. in Ferraro and Briody 31), different states have different cultural assumptions and value attachment dimensions, which represent the independent preferences of a specific state of affairs over another that differentiates countries from each other (Hofstede Insights 1).
