Problem Statement Title: Team Name:
Despite prohibition of hazardous cleaning of sewers and
septic tanks (manual cleaning of sewers and septic
tanks without safety kits, safety devices and without
adherence to safety precautions) it is still being resorted
to in many parts of the country.

2. Idea/Approach Details
Describe your idea/Solution/Prototype here:
• Our proposed project idea is to develop a toxic gas detection helmet for
enhanced safety in environments prone to toxic gas exposure.
• This innovative helmet integrates advanced gas sensors strategically placed
for accurate monitoring. The helmet is linked to a smart microcontroller and
data processing software, allowing continuous data collection and real-time
analysis.
• Predefined gas level thresholds trigger immediate alarms, with a versatile
communication module enabling remote alerting via email, SMS, or data
messages.
• A comprehensive recipient database ensures timely notification of relevant
authorities, while an intuitive monitoring dashboard provides real-time data
access. To further strengthen safety measures, establish a well-coordinated
response plan with local corporations or environmental agencies, ensuring
rapid and efficient actions in response to alerts.
• This project aims to significantly improve safety standards in hazardous
environments by offering a proactive and intelligent toxic gas monitoring
solution.

3. Idea/Approach Details
Describe your Use Cases here
Sewer Maintenance and Cleaning: Workers tasked with
the maintenance and cleaning of sewer pipes often face
the risk of encountering toxic gases, such as hydrogen
sulfide (H2S). The helmet can continuously monitor gas
levels, providing immediate alerts if gas concentrations
become hazardous, ensuring the safety of workers.
⮚ Septic Tank Inspection and Pumping: Professionals
involved in septic tank inspection and pumping are at
risk of exposure to toxic gases, including methane (CH4).
The helmet can detect rising gas levels within septic
tanks and issue warnings to prevent accidents or health
hazards.
⮚ Emergency Response: In the event of a sewer or septic
tank emergency, such as a gas leak or malfunction,
emergency response teams can use these helmets to
assess the situation and take necessary precautions,
including evacuation if gas levels are dangerous.
