Enterprise Architecture
Enterprise Architecture is a tool to manage complexity and
align business strategy with IT strategy. In this presentation,
we explore the different domains of Enterprise Architecture
and how they relate to one another.
INDEX
Business Architecture
Defines the goals, processes and information
needed to operate and manage an
organization.
Application Architecture
Identifies the individual software applications
needed to support the business and how they
work together.
Technology Architecture
Specifies the hardware, software, and network
infrastructure required to support the
applications and data.
Information Architecture
Manages the flow of data across the
organization, ensuring efficient and effective
communication.

INDEX
Business Architecture
Business architecture is the practice of aligning business
strategy with organizational structure, processes,
information, and technology.
It provides a blueprint for how a company operates and
how it can achieve its goals.
For example, a large retail chain may use business
architecture to redesign its supply chain management
system.
By mapping out the current process and identifying
inefficiencies, the company can create a new system that
streamlines operations and reduces costs.
Explanation of each domain with example.
INDEX
Application Architecture
Application architecture refers to the design and structure
of individual applications that make up an organization's
overall IT system.
For example, a retail company may have an e-commerce
website, a mobile app, and inventory management
software.
Each of these applications has its own unique requirements
and functions, but they must all work together to provide
customers with a cohesive experience.
Application architecture helps ensure that these
applications are designed in a way that allows them to
communicate and share data effectively.
INDEX
Data Architecture
Data architecture refers to the design and organization of
data assets within an organization. It involves defining
how data is stored, processed, and accessed.
A well-designed data architecture can improve data
quality, reduce redundancy, and increase efficiency.
For example, a retail company may use data architecture
to manage their customer data. They may have a database
that stores information such as customer names,
addresses, and purchase history.
By designing the database with a clear structure and
defined relationships between tables, they can easily
retrieve relevant information for marketing campaigns or
customer service interactions.
INDEX
Technology Architecture
Technology architecture refers to the overall
structure and design of an organization's
technology systems, including hardware, software,
networks, and data centers
One example of how technology architecture is
used in an organization is through the
implementation of a cloud-based system. By using
cloud technology, companies can leverage the
scalability and flexibility of the cloud to quickly
and easily deploy new applications and services,
while also reducing costs and improving
efficiency.

How EA is Applied to a Website and
Application
1. Strategic Alignment - EA ensures that website and
application development initiatives align with business
objectives and support organizational growth.
2. Standardization and Integration - EA promotes the
standardization and integration of technologies and
processes, enhancing efficiency and reducing
duplication.
3. Risk Management - EA provides a framework for
managing risks associated with website and application
development, ensuring secure and reliable systems.
INDEX
How does one domain relate to the other domain of EA
Enterprise architecture is comprised of four domains:
business, data, application, and technology.
These domains are interconnected and changes made
in one domain can have an impact on the others
It's important to understand the interconnectivity of
these domains in order to effectively manage
enterprise architecture.
By having a holistic view of the organization's
architecture, businesses can make informed decisions
that align with their overall strategy and goals.
INDEX
Real-Life Example: The Impact of Change in one Domain to
Another.
Consider a hypothetical scenario where a large retail company acquires a smaller online retailer. This
acquisition brings about significant changes in the business domain, such as new product lines,
customer segments, and sales channels. However, these changes also have a ripple effect on the other
domains of enterprise architecture.
In the data domain, the acquisition may require the integration of two different data models, databases,
and data warehouses. In the application domain, new applications may need to be developed or existing
ones modified to support the new business processes. In the technology domain, there may be a need
for new hardware, software, and infrastructure to support the increased demand on the IT systems. All
of these changes must be carefully planned and executed to ensure that the enterprise architecture
remains aligned with the overall business strategy.
INDEX
Examples of each domain that can be
improved by seeing current organization.
Business Architecture
1. Streamlining Decision-Making Processes - Simplify and speed up
decision-making by establishing clear guidelines and delegating
authority.
2. Better Customer Relationship Management - Identify and
prioritize your customers' needs to improve satisfaction and loyalty.
3. Aligning with Business Goals - Create a strategic plan and
structure your organization to support it.
4. Optimizing Financial Reporting and Analysis - Improve your
financial reporting and analysis systems to get a better overview of
your organization's performance.
INDEX
Data Architecture
1. Enhancing Data Security - Protect sensitive data
through policies, standards, and procedures.
2. Better Data Governance - Create a framework for
managing data that ensures accuracy, completeness, and
consistency.
3. Robust Backup and Recovery - Ensure business
continuity in the event of data loss or corruption.
4. Improved Data Sharing - Facilitate collaboration and
productivity by enabling data sharing across departments.
INDEX
Application Architecture
1. Reducing Redundancy - Consolidate and streamline
applications to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
2. Adopting New Technologies - Incorporate emerging
technologies to improve functionality and performance.
3. Holistic Approach to IT Service - Implement a
comprehensive approach to IT service management that
optimizes performance.
4. Better Experience for Users - Design and implement
user-friendly applications that are accessible to all users,
regardless of disability or device.
INDEX
Technology Architecture
1. Thorough IT Security - Implement multi-layered
security protocols to prevent cyberattacks and
information loss.
2. Standardizing Technology Infrastructure - Create
a consistent and unified technology environment to
reduce complexity and improve performance.
3. Optimizing Network Performance - Ensure high
bandwidth speeds and availability through proper
network design.
4. Embracing Emerging Technologies - Stay ahead of
the competition by adopting emerging technologies
like AI, IoT, and blockchain.
