Connections within Jane Goodall s Through a Window
Throughout the term, reading the book, Through a Window by Jane Goodall has been quite intriguing
for me, in that it has inspired me with new ideas and perceptions about how our own species has
evolved over time. I have really enjoyed seeing the many similarities that hominids share with other
primate species, especially chimpanzees. Goodall s research only further proves that we are not only
extremely biologically similar to chimpanzees in our DNA, but have many behavioral similarities as
well. The film, Monkey in the Mirror also shows support for our likeness in intellectuality. These
documented findings on chimpanzee and human resemblances provides the strong evidence needed to
conclude the fact that humans do indeed share a common ancestor with great apes.
I found Goodall s chapter Mothers and Daughters very fascinating, and caught my interest the most
because I immediately found myself making connections within my own life and experiences. Goodall
compared the parenting styles of the two mothers, Flo, and Passion. These two chimps have
completely opposite ways of raising their young, with Flo being very loving, nurturing, and caring of
her daughter Fifi, while Passion was a very cold, harsh, and intolerant mother to her daughter, Pom.
You can easily see the dramatic difference in how their childhood shaped the two chimpanzees in their
adulthood, just how we commonly see this in humans as well. Fifi had a

In Zora Neale Hurston s short story The Gilded Six Bits, there are many aspects that can be analyzed.
However, I found it interesting that the act of objectification is reoccurring in this story from
beginning to end. Objectification means to make a person or thing into an object rather than a human

Weaknesses of SMART
In all actuality, these are mostly just minor annoyances. Firstly, the system s on hand counts only
update once every two hours. This may be because of the huge amounts of data that need to be
updated, but customers get angry when the on hand says 25 and one can t be found. My second
complaint is that the system has no way of recognizing theft. Again, this produces wrong on hand
counts which sometimes become negatives, and is an overall pain to figure out what is actually wrong.
I guess one could say my main complaint against the SMART system is human error. But what
program can completely remove it?

I think the best solution for this problem would be removal of human interaction, but I realize that this
is not possible. Therefore, my second proposition would be not allowing just any Associate to operate
the Telxon. I have been there a total of 4 months and I can change prices and inventory counts at my
leisure. I m sure you can imagine the havoc that could be wreaked if I weren t an honest Associate. I
think there should be at least some kind of intensive training. Most of my training was in the same day
