RDV_Media 2012 - Context: A Personalization EngineNurun
The document discusses the evolution of personalized media and the challenges it presents. It notes that as the amount of available content grows, it becomes harder for people to obtain, choose, and sort through everything. Personalization aims to help with this by filtering content based on popularity, affinity, and suggestions. However, personalization also risks people no longer being able to arbitrate for themselves or recognize content that doesn't directly resemble their interests. Moving forward, the media will need to balance highly personalized experiences with exposing people to unexpected or diverse content. It will also need to address challenges like personalization mutating audiences and the public nature of private personal data used for personalization.

Abstract: I will discuss how visualizations can help while coding. I
explain the intention behind the visualization tool RW-Moose-Diagram
(http://www.smalltalkhub.com/#!/
~RainerWinkler/RW-Moose-Diagram)
which is based on Moose and Roassal. It is used to make dependency
diagrams that focus on a certain aspect of an application. It supports
comments; elements can be dragged; changes to diagrams can be
stored. I speak about the experiences I made while using it with ABAP
and Smalltalk. The main intention was to make understanding code
easier while working with Legacy code. I discuss also in which cases
it can help while working with new applications that have a very high
test coverage.
Bio: Rainer Winkler is developer for SAP applications specialized in
SAP tools for reporting. He is interested in software maintenance and
in getting Legacy code under control. He works primarily with ABAP and
enjoyed to learn Pharo recently to utilize Roassal and Moose.

The Journey to a data driven organizationEinat Shimoni
The document discusses the journey towards becoming a data-driven organization. It identifies different levels of relying on data from using data selectively to using data to justify opinions. Data culture maturity also varies across industries, with some industries being more data-driven "disruptors". Data-driven organizations are characterized as managing data as an asset, making data accessible and trusted, using data frequently in meetings, and prioritizing data skills when hiring. Implementing a data strategy can lead to benefits like higher growth, profits, productivity, time to market, and customer acquisition. The challenges of becoming fully data-driven are also examined.
The secret spice of great customer experiencesEinat Shimoni
This document discusses key themes in customer experience for 2019, including a focus on data-centric experiences, managing customer journeys, and designing experiences around outcomes. It notes that while brands aim to connect their brand promise to customer experiences, most do not fully deliver on promises. Successful brands highlighted align their brand promise and customer reality through practices like transparent values, community engagement, and social impact. The document advocates for designing experiences around "jobs to be done" and outcomes over features. It also discusses challenges organizations face like a lack of clear CX strategy and technology architecture, as well as the need for a single customer view across data sources.
The "trio": Customer Experience, Data-driven business and Employee empowerment.
This 2018 STKI summit presentation outlines the necessary "joined" journey to achieve customer experience transformation.
The Evolution of Analytics in OrganizationsEinat Shimoni
The document discusses how artificial intelligence (AI) technologies will transform businesses and industries. It notes that data is the new oil and an important fuel for AI. However, simply having data is not enough - it must be analyzed and used effectively. The document outlines different types of AI technologies, such as deep learning and natural language generation. It also discusses how AI can benefit companies by automating tasks, scaling operations, and amplifying human intelligence. Overall, the document advocates for a combined human-AI approach and focuses on using AI in areas with large untapped data sources.
The document discusses three practical questions for CMOs in 2016 regarding digital marketing measurement and platforms. The questions are: 1) How to change measurement methods to focus on relationships rather than individual touchpoints. 2) How to connect online and offline customer behavior and data while maintaining privacy. 3) How to start building or buying a marketing platform to integrate data and applications. The document provides examples and considerations for CMOs in addressing these strategic questions around measurement, data, and platform.
The document discusses content marketing and digital transformation. It notes that content marketing can help with upsell opportunities, customer satisfaction, brand awareness, lead generation, and customer retention over the full sales cycle. The key steps in content marketing are outlined as creation, curation, distribution, optimization, and analytics. Several content creation tools are also presented, including Playbuzz, Articoolo, Easel.ly, Dipity, and Powtoon.
The document discusses big data analytics and tools. It introduces the concept of an "Internet of Corporate Things" and expanding analytics beyond just corporate data. It emphasizes that new tools and approaches are needed to take advantage of big data. The document provides guidance on starting a big data analytics initiative, including choosing a pilot use case, designing a new data architecture with a data lake, building an analytics center of excellence, and training analysts. It also summarizes various big data analytics tools for storage, delivery, and analyzing large datasets.
The document discusses strategies for developing applications that meet the expectations of new generations of employees. It suggests mapping employee journeys, using micro-personalization and mobile-first design. Various "cards" are presented outlining technologies like enterprise app stores, productivity apps, the "hub" for managing application states, IoT sensors, and approaches to web and mobile development. CIOs are advised to consider their type (conservative, modern, early adopter) to determine their best strategies for employee engagement and "magic moment" technologies using these approaches.
Enterprise Applications, Analytics and Knowledge Management Trends 2013Einat Shimoni
The document discusses trends in open source and cloud adoption. It notes that open source adoption is growing worldwide but remains low in Israel. Open source provides quality and cost benefits but commercial support is still preferred over community support. Cloud adoption is also increasing, with many Israeli organizations planning to use software-as-a-service. Keeping up with technology trends is a major advantage of open source and cloud solutions.
Customer experience management and Knowledge ManagementEinat Shimoni
The document discusses the link between knowledge management and customer experience. It notes that the focus has shifted from owning manufacturing/distribution to owning information/engaging customers. Effective knowledge management can optimize customer interactions by providing the right information to customers at the right time. However, traditional knowledge management systems have issues like being standalone repositories rather than integrated into processes. The focus is shifting to delivering contextual and timely information to improve customer experience and reduce wasted effort finding information.
2010 Enterprise Applications, BI & KM TrendsEinat Shimoni
The document discusses trends in enterprise applications and software as a service (SaaS). It notes that 2010 was a year of recovery from the economic downturn. SaaS adoption is increasing, especially for niche applications, and SaaS offers lower total cost of ownership compared to on-premise software. The document also presents results of a survey of Israeli organizations with over 500 employees which found that while SaaS adoption is growing, concerns about integration, support, and security still present barriers. Key drivers of SaaS adoption in Israel include reduced costs, less responsibility for maintenance and upgrades, and fast implementation.
CRM Trends: From Multi Channels to Cross ChannelsEinat Shimoni
The document discusses trends in customer relationship management (CRM) from 2009. It notes that CRM is shifting from transactions to interactions and customer experience management. As customers use multiple channels to engage with companies, there is a need for organizations to adopt a holistic multi-channel CRM strategy rather than managing channels separately. However, many companies are not analyzing customer interactions across channels or taking a unified view of the customer experience. Social media is also transforming customers into more vocal participants in conversations about brands and products. The key is for companies to maximize the customer experience through a collaborative, cross-channel approach.
How information systems are built or acquired puts information, which is what they should be about, in a secondary place. Our language adapted accordingly, and we no longer talk about information systems but applications. Applications evolved in a way to break data into diverse fragments, tightly coupled with applications and expensive to integrate. The result is technical debt, which is re-paid by taking even bigger "loans", resulting in an ever-increasing technical debt. Software engineering and procurement practices work in sync with market forces to maintain this trend. This talk demonstrates how natural this situation is. The question is: can something be done to reverse the trend?
This talk will cover ScyllaDB Architecture from the cluster-level view and zoom in on data distribution and internal node architecture. In the process, we will learn the secret sauce used to get ScyllaDB's high availability and superior performance. We will also touch on the upcoming changes to ScyllaDB architecture, moving to strongly consistent metadata and tablets.
Conversational agents, or chatbots, are increasingly used to access all sorts of services using natural language. While open-domain chatbots - like ChatGPT - can converse on any topic, task-oriented chatbots - the focus of this paper - are designed for specific tasks, like booking a flight, obtaining customer support, or setting an appointment. Like any other software, task-oriented chatbots need to be properly tested, usually by defining and executing test scenarios (i.e., sequences of user-chatbot interactions). However, there is currently a lack of methods to quantify the completeness and strength of such test scenarios, which can lead to low-quality tests, and hence to buggy chatbots.
To fill this gap, we propose adapting mutation testing (MuT) for task-oriented chatbots. To this end, we introduce a set of mutation operators that emulate faults in chatbot designs, an architecture that enables MuT on chatbots built using heterogeneous technologies, and a practical realisation as an Eclipse plugin. Moreover, we evaluate the applicability, effectiveness and efficiency of our approach on open-source chatbots, with promising results.

The typical problem in product engineering is not bad strategy, so much as “no strategy”. This leads to confusion, lack of motivation, and incoherent action. The next time you look for a strategy and find an empty space, instead of waiting for it to be filled, I will show you how to fill it in yourself. If you’re wrong, it forces a correction. If you’re right, it helps create focus. I’ll share how I’ve approached this in the past, both what works and lessons for what didn’t work so well.

From Natural Language to Structured Solr Queries using LLMsSease
This talk draws on experimentation to enable AI applications with Solr. One important use case is to use AI for better accessibility and discoverability of the data: while User eXperience techniques, lexical search improvements, and data harmonization can take organizations to a good level of accessibility, a structural (or “cognitive” gap) remains between the data user needs and the data producer constraints.
That is where AI – and most importantly, Natural Language Processing and Large Language Model techniques – could make a difference. This natural language, conversational engine could facilitate access and usage of the data leveraging the semantics of any data source.
The objective of the presentation is to propose a technical approach and a way forward to achieve this goal.
The key concept is to enable users to express their search queries in natural language, which the LLM then enriches, interprets, and translates into structured queries based on the Solr index’s metadata.
This approach leverages the LLM’s ability to understand the nuances of natural language and the structure of documents within Apache Solr.
The LLM acts as an intermediary agent, offering a transparent experience to users automatically and potentially uncovering relevant documents that conventional search methods might overlook. The presentation will include the results of this experimental work, lessons learned, best practices, and the scope of future work that should improve the approach and make it production-ready.
