Informative Speech On Thyma Cancer
Cancer starts when cells start to multiply at an unmanageable rate. Predominantly any cells apart of
the body can be subjected to cancer. Thymus cancers are atypical, meaning they re not as common
as others. The thymus is an organ of the chest that is located just above and in front of the heart. So
what does the thymus do? Well, the thymus is very vital for our immune system. It helps attack
viruses and other types of infections in our body by producing white blood cells. Fun fact number
one: there are two types of this cancer, thymoma and thymic. Thymic cancer is much more
aggressive and harder to treat, like a big body builder. Thymoma cancer is more like that
bodybuilders much less threatening little brother. Which takes me onto fun... Show more content on

But, Duke University Medical center found a cure for this in 2003 by a transplant procedure. At the
moment, this isn t being used as a treatment for this cancer, according to NCIB.gov.
In the worst case scenario, you ve been struck by a thymic cancer. What is your prognosis during
and after treatment? Thymoma cancer tumors are very slow growing, and with modern medicine,
the prognosis is very hopeful. Five year survival rates for people treated for thymic cancer is 80
percent, according to medicinenet.com. After the surgery, the symptoms will begin to diminish,
and eventually patients continue with their lives without a relapse. Wondering what the likelyhood
of you getting it is? The risk of getting this type of cancer is increased with age, and in the United
States, it is most commonly seen in Asians and Pacific islanders, as opposed to other races. There
is no evidence that suggests environmental, lifestyle, or hereditary risks are strongly related to
developing this cancer. But, according to Cancer.org, exposure to radiation in the upper chest area
could be a potential link, but there is no confirmation of this

Submission And Dominance In David Fincher s Fight Club
David Fincher s 1999 film Fight Club is about much more than a club for fighting. Fincher
presents many deep and intricate themes that one wouldn t typically expect from a 90s action
movie. One such theme is submission and dominance. The story follows a narrator who is in a
situation that many fear in the modern age. He works a boring, nine to five office job, and he
struggles to find any meaning in his commonplace life. As a response to this problem, the man,
who I will now refer to as the narrator, subconsciously creates a persona named Tyler Durden, who
is the powerful and masculine man that the narrator always wanted to be. This character that the
narrator creates helps him in making the fight club: a secret organization of men who fight... Show

After his boss threatens to fire him, the narrator has a sudden urge to start punching himself.
Security officers enter the room to see the boss standing over the narrators bruised and bloodied
body. They immediately arrest him, and the narrator receives more money, which he uses to help
fight club. In this strange instance, the narrator lets out both his dominant and submissive side at
the same. He lets out his dominant side by inflicting harm, but at the same time he is being
submissive because he is also the one receiving harm. By doing this, the narrator achieved his goal
of not being fired, and even received an added bonus, albeit through a very unorthodox method.
Arguably, this same concept can be seen at the end of the movie. Despite all the negative things that
had happened to Tyler and the narrator throughout the course of the film, they both got what they
wanted in the end. Tyler collapses all the bank buildings, and makes the narrator more like him. The
narrator destroys Tyler, and becomes a powerful, strong willed man. The union between the two
sides began when the narrator put his gun up to his mouth. Throughout the whole movie, Tyler did
whatever he wanted to the narrator, and the narrator was powerless to stop it. The narrator putting
the gun to his mouth represents the first time that the narrator has control over Tyler. By
strengthening the submissive side and weakening the dominant side, both sides are brought into
balance, which leads to the semi positive conclusion to the

A virtuous circle. And BT will also use it to pay dividends to its shareholders and reward other
stakeholders [BT Report. 2017].
BT strategy is founded on broadening and deepening its customer relationships.
To deliver sustainable profitable revenue growth, BT needs stronger relationships with its
customers. That means making sure the company stay relevant to them as markets, lifestyles and
technologies change.
The three pillars of BT s strategy help the company to do that: delivering superior customer service;
transforming our costs; and investing for growth. The better our customer service, the more the
company sells and the less time and money is spend in putting things right. And the better the
company manages its costs, the better value for money BT can offer to its customers and the more
it invest in giving customers what they need today and tomorrow. These are the principles that
drive BT business model [BT Report. 2017].
For 2017/18 BT s strategy is evolving. The three pillars remain broadly the same but with a wider
focus on the overall customer experience rather than just on customer service. And with the
acquisition of EE limited, the company s investment areas are evolving to focus on having the best
integrated network in the UK and being a fully converged service

Controlling Health Care Benefits Costs
Controlling Health Care Benefits Costs The topic that I will be discussing is Health Care
Benefits Costs. There are several different trends in the health care field that are used in
business. Major issues and obstacles are also very big regarding Health Care Benefits Costs.
Controlling Health Care Benefits Costs is a very important topic that is trending today
throughout the world. Health Care benefits costs are a systematic approach to estimating the
strengths and weaknesses of alternatives that satisfy transactions, activities or functional
requirements for a business. It is a techniques that is used to determine options that provide the
best approach for the adoption and practice in terms of benefits in labor, time and cost savings
(Cost Benefit Analysis). Some companies compromise help with medical costs. This depends
on the company s policy. Either the employees can compensate a fee to disregard the health care
plan, while the company may choose to pay for the whole bulk of the best. Also, the company
may pay for everything. Employers often provide employees with sort of group medical
insurance, with the level of coverage depending on the status of the employee (Cost Benefit

employers. Most companies offer managed care health coverage through HMOs and preferred

Speech On Blood Donation
The Gift of Life You re always somebody s type. Maybe not in the sense of finding love, but at
least in donating blood. When individuals are asked why they donate blood, their response is
simple, it is heartwarming as well as a rewarding feeling. Individuals can donate at blood drives and
hospitals.Donors can either walk in or schedule an appointment. Donating bloodis not easy for
some people, especially if it is the first time, they may not know what to expect and they may be
nervous. It is phlebotomist or employee at the blood donation center job to make the person feel
welcome and help them overcome any fears they may have.We need as many donors as we can
get to try and reach our number for how many pints of blood are required. Although we have
blood banks like Bonfils; which is one of many locations Colorado has for a bigger supply of
blood to help us out in case of an emergency. We simply would not have enough blood for the
affected victims because we are short on blood donations; supply and demand for donation are too
high; diagnoses and transportation of blood would take too long.
As we begin, although we are thousands of pints short on blood, we would not be able to help
large number of victims in a big emergency, through more blood donations. If we were in need of
lots of blood we would have lots of donors lining up outside blood donor locations to help the
cause. For example, the Las Vegas shooting massacre. Fifty nine people were confirmed dead and

Nelson Mandela s Role In Civil Disobedience
Nelson Mandela a South African civil rights activist once said, ..I have cherished the ideal of a
democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal
opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal
for which I am prepared to die. Nelson Mandela was a strong man who fought against the odds
for the what he believed in, even if it had cost him his life. Nelson Mandela s involvement in civil
disobedience was due to personal influences, he chose to participate in civil disobedience to protest
unfair segregation laws in South Africa, and he did achieve success using this controversial method

In 1942, Mandela joined the African National Congress and he became actively involved in an anti
apartheid group (Biography). Inside the African National Congress a group of young African
Americans joined together to create the African National Congress Youth League (Nelson
Biographical). Mandela was inspired to join this group after the Afrikaner dominated National Party
won the election in 1948. This national party created apartheid laws that stripped anyone who was
not white of their basic rights and kept them from the government. With Mandela s help the African
National Congress led a Campaign for the Defiance of Unjust Laws, where they traveled throughout
South Africa protesting against discriminatory laws (History). December 5th, 1955, Mandela and
hundreds of others were arrested while peacefully protesting, this marked the beginning of the
Treason Trial, which only ended when the last twenty eight people were declared innocent.
Afterwards, on March 21st, 1960, sixty nine peaceful protesters were killed by police in
Sharpeville; consequently, this led to the banning of the African National Congress (Biography).
After the banning of the congress, Mandela insisted that they created a military unit within the
African National Congress. The congress contemplated Mandela s notion and allowed those who
wanted to, to join Mandela, this led to the establishment of a

Analysis Of Robert Hayden s Frederick Douglas
Robert Hayden has been considered one of America s best African American poets of the
modern era. He did not consider himself to be a black poet but liked to think of himself as an
American poet. He was a first in many ways, including the awards he won, his style of writing,
and the level of success he had even tho he was a negro poet. Robert Hayden was a great poet.
Robert Hayden was born on August 4, 1913 in Detroit Michigan to Asa and Ruth Sheffey. His
birth name was Asa Bundy Sheffey put his name changed to Robert Hayden when he was
adopted because his parents had split up before he was born. His foster parents lived next door to

He tells us how in the winter, his father would be up before everyone else to warm up the house
so that they wouldn t be so cold when they got out of bed. Robert was hesitant to come out of his
room because he was afraid of the chronic angers of the house which is referring to how his
foster parents always fought. Their fighting had always deeply troubled him. Hayden wrote
Frederick Douglas because his story was a source of inspiration to him. The poem is about the
struggles of the African Americans during the age of slavery and how they fought through it and
how people like Frederick Douglas will be remembered as nothing more than a fighter and a
symbol to represent how far the black population has come and how their fight is not yet over.
The Middle Passage is about the Africans journey to America where they will be sold into slavery
and how tragic it was. It explains in detail how inhuman and terrible it was. It tells how many of
the Africans died at sea, how disease ran rampant due no sanitation and tight quarters, just in general
how horrible the whole ordeal was. And that was just the

Dred Scott V. Sanford
In the history of the United States Supreme Court, there are a multitude of cases that have left an
indelible mark in the tapestry of American history, culture, and society. Among these landmark
disputes may be found issues as divisive as reproductive health, fundamental economic freedoms,
the power of the Supreme Court and, of course, race. Among these, Dred Scott v. Sanford
occupies a special place. Often called as the worst decision made by the Supreme Court , Dred
Scott v. Sanford provided an impetus for slavers to continue an injustice that had existed since the
colonial era . By deciding the way it did, the United States Supreme Court also created a divide
between the northern and southern states a divide so great that it eventually led to the American
Civil War. Such an enormous effect on the sentiment of the times warrants a closer look at the
decisions of the justices involved in the Dred Scott decision. Doing so will also shed light into the
intricate logic behind the justices decisions essentially the reasons why they concurred or dissented
from the main opinion written by Chief Justice Roger B. Taney. The process of interrogating the
Supreme Court s interpretation of the Constitution will also reveal the fundamental societal
sentiment regarding slavery and African Americans at the time. Dred Scott was an African
American slave that sued for his and his family s freedom, relying on his claim that his ownership

Embryonic Stem Cells Persuasive Essay
Many, as of currently incurable diseases plague the Earth. Thanks to technological advancements
and better understandings of cells, scientists believe that it may be possible to cure diseases by
the use of embryonic stem cells. Embryonic stem cells are cells obtained from an embryo when
they are only a few days old. Because they have only begun to differentiate, these cells have the
capability of developing into any cell in the human body, and that s why they can be used for the
progression of medicine. Scientists hope to cure some diseases but if that isn t possible they at least
hope to create treatments using them.
The stem cell of the embryo can divide for long periods of time and still have the ability to
produce all cell type in an organism. Their ability to do so is why scientists are trying to find
ways to use them to cure or treat diseases. They think that they can programed to repair or replace

finally ready to prove itself and to actually start helping patients suffering from a range of horrific
diseases. It also shows the new readiness of the FDA to work with researchers to move exciting
new stem cell therapies out of the laboratory and into the clinic. Later this month they plan on

Fable For Tomorrow Summary
A Health Crisis; Facing Genetic Modification
Industrial Agriculture has casted a shadow of death upon the health of our environment and
bodies (Carson 49). In her essay Fable for Tomorrow, naturalist Rachel Carson alerts the public on
the inevitable danger rooted from the use of pesticides to the environment. She argues that the
interference with nature using GMO and pesticides create a danger for us, internally and
externally. Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are living organisms whose genetic material
has been artificially manipulated through genetic engineering ( GMO Facts ). For instance, if you
have a tomato, and you want it to stay fresh for a longer period in cold temperatures you can take

By educating people on GMO they learn how to identify these products and therefore, how to
avoid them. People can do this through public campaigning and voting against GMOs. One way
to identify if the food is free of genetic modification is by looking for the NON GMO project
stamp on the products case. We can also enforce building community farms in neighborhoods
where the residences can help to garden and care for the plants. This way people can get clean,
healthy food which they will benefit from and so will the surrounding environment. Most of their
fruits and vegetables would not be store bought, meaning the large GMO companies like
Monsanto, Bayer, and Syngenta will lose their buyers and profits will hopefully decrease. By doing
this more people will demand fresh, natural plants that will keep them

Mary Wollstonecraft s A Vindication Of The Rights Of Women
After considering the historic page, and viewing the living world with anxious solicitude, the most
melancholy emotions of sorrowful indignation have depressed my spirits, and I have sighed when
obliged to confess that either nature has made a great difference between man and man, or that the
civilization which has hitherto taken place in the world has been very partial (Black 102). The
opening sentence of A Vindication of the Rights of Women by Mary Wollstonecraft
powerfully
declares her stance of the disregard given the women of her time. Vindication is defined as proof
that someone or something is right, reasonable, or justified (dictionary.com). Wollstonecraft s use

By speaking to the males of her time she s giving women secreted access to her thoughts. It s a

this at home within earshot of their wives and daughters. Then, these women being educated they
would have found a way to read the work and then discuss it on their own where servants would
be able to overhear. These servants would then talk about it at home. It s brilliant the way she

There is no theory which accounts for the oppression of women in its endless variety and

How Did John Wycliffe Influence The Medieval Church
Church History Research Paper; by Alex Szabo, Fall 2017 Semester
John Wycliffe, (ca. 1330 1384), was an English philosopher, theologian, reformer, and professor at
Oxford. Ultimately, he was martyred. Wycliffe was hailed as the Morning Star of Reformation
because he marshalled and leveraged all his acumen to expose the abuses of the medieval Roman
Catholic Church. John Wycliffe was one of the initial personalities of papal authority to influence a
secular power. The Lollard movement, which was lead by Wycliffe, took place before the
Protestant Reformation. His most noteworthy accomplishment was the delivery of the Holy Bible
in the vernacular of the English People. He declared, scriptures are the property of the people and

Yes, once there was a man who led a revision to the medieval church powerbase, influenced his own
peers with newer thoughts, influenced scores of students with his teachings (i.e. John Hus),
introduced newer philosophes, newer theological thought, led educational and religious institutions,
translated the Scriptures into his native language so that all could have, preached the word of God,
was executed for his positions, what a terrible irony.
The very essence of those who hate, to attempt to wipe out every trace of existence of a man who

Dale Earnhardt Sr. Essay
Dale Earnhardt Sr.
Dale Earnhardt Sr. died as he lived. Always known as a competitor who brought the best out in
everyone around him, he died trying to bring the best out in one of his drivers, Michael Waltrip.
Dale knew that several cars had the ability to win the Daytona 500, and he was determined to
make sure that those cars had to get by him in order to reach Waltrip, the eventual winner. His final
lap crash occurred as he was running interference for Waltrip and his son, Dale Junior, who finished

Essay On The Difference Between Civil Law And American...
Compared to the rest of the industrialized world, the United States is a fairly young country. As a
result, the U.S. has many institutions that differ from other advanced industrial democracies. One
of the most prominent differences between the U.S. and the rest of the industrialized world resides
in our legal systems. While the most common democratic judicial tradition, especially in social
democracies, is the civil law tradition, the U.S. differs and has a common lawlegal tradition. Many
differences exist between civil and common law traditions and the United Stateslegal system would
have stark changes if it switched to a civil legal system.
A key difference between civil and common law legal systems is the role of the legal code. In
civil law, the legal code is the supreme source of justice in a society; a handbook on citizen rights,
responsibilities, and the law (Poloni Staudinger and Wolf 2016, p.97). In civil law, the the legal...

In common law systems, less emphasis is placed on strictly following the words of the legal
code, but rather following the precedent set by previous cases findings. Furthermore, as
mentioned earlier, judges in common law nations have a prestigious connotation attached to their
role. They hold a highly sought after position and earn their black robe through the culmination
of their legal career. With the defendant under the presumption of innocence, these judges and the
court act as neutral actors and let the two opposing sides argue their case in front of a jury.
Because of this, the common law system is referred to as adversarial (Poloni Staudinger and
Wolf 2016, p.100). One of the biggest differences amongst common and civil law systems is the
role of judicial review. Unlike in nations with civil law, common law societies have a tremendous
amount of judicial review oversight of legislative or executive actions by the judiciary (Poloni

Globalization Of The Amazon Forest
Introduction
It s likely that the paper that this essay is printed on was produced in the Amazon forest,
processed in a South American Factory and shipped on a German made ship to different
countries. This is just one aspect of Globalisation. More globally globalisation reflects
interconnectivity of markets, people and culture around the word. Today s world is
interconnected like never before, and corporations are trading, expanding, and employing across
the continents. Multinational businesses are changing the way that the world works, having new
and far reaching impacts on their customers, business partners, geographical bases, and their
suppliers from established concerns to the independent farmer or craftsperson. The term
globalisation is one that is used with ever increasing frequency as if it had a universally accepted
meaning and definition. According to Modelski, globalisation is a historical process which is
characterised by a growing engagement between peoples on all corners of the globe (Modelski,
2003, pp.55 59) The main aim of this essay is to explain the process of globalisation, and to
critically analyse one business in which has been impacted by globalisation, I will be focusing on
The Starbucks Company throughout this essay. The main case study which will be referred to
throughout this essay is the worldwide brand Starbucks, which has become a global company as a
result of globalisation. The essay will start by defining and explaining globalisation. It

The Stereotypes Of Dishonesty And Flawless Relationships
Growing up, many have experienced that flawless relationship, whether it involves being a
contributor to one or just simply examining others. Watching movies, such as The Notebook, gave
us such extreme hopes as to what to expect when it came time for dating to become a part of our
lives. Sadly, once that time had arrived, dating made an unexpected turn for the worst.
Relationships tend to be dishonest. Having gone through a relationship, I understand what it is like
to be involved in a relationship like so with the person I once thought I could trust. Because I was
proven wrong, involving myself in another relationship, especially this early, is going to be really
rare. Having conversed with some friends who have gone through the same instance, they say that
they will probably not jump into another one until their career is set and their life is intact. The
dishonesty is mostly associated with not being told where or who the significant other is with or
just blatantly lying about it and saying they re somewhere they aren t. That idea of dishonesty tags

Innovation according to Steve Jobs distinguishes a leader and a follower because in innovation
you create something new, it is different from an invention. Innovation is an insight or an idea
that is original and useful and in demand, it is something that nobody had done before and it
meets the needs of the present. Innovation is usually a technology or it may be a process or a
system that provides a solution to a problem. The importance of eco entrepreneurs and innovative
initiatives in the local communities of America could be the best prevention if it may not be a
complete cure. Eco entrepreneurs are those people who can identify opportunities in the midst of
an economic downturn. They are creating a sustainable business and they conduct their business
with love and respect to our Earth and its people. Eco entrepreneurs have a long term goal and
they want a sustainable business. An example of eco entrepreneurs in the United States today,
according to Majora Carter (2010) in her talk on Ted there are three existing eco entrepreneurs in
the Unites States of America today, for example our first eco entrepreneurto create a new

The Military Draft is Unconstitutional Essay
There is a Time and a place for everything, for instance there were times when a militarized force
wasn t nearly large enough for an impending war as necessary to stand even that of a fighting
chance towards victory. Our nation s solution to this problem was creating the military draft,
which most recently was used during the Vietnam War. The military draft, or Selective Service
System, is Conscription, or in other words forced labor demanded by some established authority
(Worddiq). From 1948 until 1973, during both peacetime and periods of conflict, men were drafted
to fill vacancies in the armed forces which could not be filled through voluntary means.
(Landscaper) 2/3 of the American troops entered in that war were volunteers, while... Show more

At the constant incline of students enlisting in the military and the re enlistment rate of soldiers
being 137% of the predicted rate, there would be no physical need for a draft. (Griffin)The
constant growth of the American Military only proves the fact that a military draft isn t as
necessary as it was in previous years, or previous wars, such as the Chinese Civil War, Greek
Civil War, First Indochina War, Korean War, and lastly the Second Indochina War, or Vietnam
War. A draft at this time in American history would cause the nation s debt to raise more, due to
the cost for equipment on all drafted soldiers, training, and the shipping or flying to their
necessary stations. The Government would also have to pay the draftees for their services
causing the nations treasury to further plummet into oblivion, however with no draft in place the
chances of a soldier in the American Military with no real desire to be there, or without actually
being physically fit or durable enough to last being enlisted, are slim to none. A draft for any
military, not just the American military alone, would exclude those in which would voluntarily
give their service to their Country, State, Province, or any other geographic area with its own
military. Sheldon Richmond argues that, The draft has no place in a free society because it is
slavery; the kind that can get you killed or put you in a position where

An Analysis Of Cold As Heaven By Judith Ortiz Cofer
Cold as Heaven Judith Ortiz Cofer s poem Cold as Heaven is a very sweet interaction between a
granddaughter and her dying grandmother. The granddaughter is the narrator. After reading the
poem, I believe the meaning of the poem is that the cold is something that the grandmother
never experienced, and the cold refers to heaven. The grandmother has not yet experienced
heaven and she is curious. In lines 25 30: When her eyes return to me, I can see she s waiting to
hear more about the purifying nature of ice, how snow makes way for a body, how you can
make yourself an angel by just lying down and waving your arms (Cofer). These lines describe
winter as a place where angels are made. It mentions that even when the snow touches you, it is a
feeling of purification. This symbolizes that heaven is a place filled with angels that purify you.
The poem consists of many different uses of figurative language in order to connect snow to death.
Cofer included the use of similes to allow the readers to make a connection to what she was
saying, so that they could grasp a better understanding. An example of a simile can be found in
lines 6 7: the Caribbean sun winds up the world like an old alarm clock (Cofer). The author is
comparing two unlike things, the sun and an alarm clock, however they have a similar connection.
The Caribbean sun is what wakes the world, just like an alarm clock does. The use of this simile
adds to the poem s meaning because it describes the life that the grandmother lives and that is
warmth in her home in the Caribbean.
There is a lot of imagery included in the poem. Throughout the poem I was able to visualize what
the author descriptively shared. The poem includes descriptions of where the grandmother lives
in the Caribbean, where the granddaughter lives with the winter weather, and how heaven looks
through the eyes of the granddaughter s comparison to winter. As I read through the poem
several time, I looked for some mention of Christianity. I found it in lines 1 2: Before there is a
breeze again before the cooling days of Lent, she may be gone (Cofer). Obviously, it is a Christian
belief that when you die you will go to heaven. I wondered how long grandma

African Slaves During The United States Essay
When black slavery first started in the United States, all the slaves were being imported from
Africa. Slowly overtime slaves were being born in the United States instead of solely being
brought from Africa. The birth rate of the slaves was not high enough to depend on the
reproduction of slaves in the south though. This resulted in a combination of both American
born slaves and African born slaves on plantations. Eventually, there was a division between the
two groups of slaves in the Southern part of the United States. The division was caused as the
American, or creole, slave began to assimilate towards the white culture and the African, or
saltwater, slaves clung to their native culture and religion. As the American slaves moved closer
to the white culture, they began to look upon the African slaves with contempt, found their
African traditions barbarous, and the wants of the two groups of slaves began to look very
different. The first reason for the division between the creole and saltwater slaves is the view the
creole slaves had on the saltwater slaves. The creole slaves viewed the African slaves with
contempt and fear . Charles Lyell and Newbell Puckett wrote that the American slaves looked upon
the African slaves with the same contempt that the whites looked with upon all negroes . This
shows that as the American slaves slowing began to imitate white culture, they began to look down
upon those who did not and viewed themselves above the saltwater slave. Lyell goes

Los Angeles is notorious for its space congestion: in most neighborhoods, simply finding an

Categorize Short Story By Eileen Chang Summary
Once Upon a Time: Folktale Elements in Eileen Chang s Short Stories
Eileen Chang was a Chinese novelist who was known for her stories depicting 20th century
Chinese life, a time and place in which different cultures collided. Instead of depicting a
perspective aligned with either modern or traditional outlooks, Chang s work manages to reject
blanket opinions of whether one is better than the other and illustrates a world far more nuanced
and that reflects the mixing of worlds and ideas happening in the modern era. One of the most
prominent ways she does so is through the use of folk story themes: Chang uses folk elements to
destroy and to satirize dichotomies that the reader may rely on to categorize her stories, in effect
depicting a more nuanced China in which opposites work together.
In Aloeswood Incense, Chang uses folk tale elements to highlight the falseness of the world that ...

addition, the narrator observes that Chuanqing [seems] to have dozed off (79). This subjectivity of
the narrator distances the reader from the story, but at the same time Chang s focus on Chuanqing s
inner thoughts pulls the reader into his mind. The effect of these contrasting themes is that the
reader is able to criticize Chuanqing s choices but also to empathize with him, reflecting a balance

Available Strategic Options
Edward Jones strategic direction in 2006 had to respond to competitors like Merrill Lynch if the
partnership wanted to maintain its exceptional performance and growth. The first option focuses
on staying true to Edward Jones small town roots and demonstrating the value of strong personal
relationships with one s financial advisor in planning for the distribution phase of life (Faux,

on time sensitive decisions. This defensive move could stunt the firm s growth, and if it fails, could

Linda Boreman s Experience With The Pornographic Film
Lovelace is a biographical drama chronicling Linda Boreman s experience with the pornographic
film industry from the age of 20 to the age of 32. In the 1970 s, Linda (played by Amanda
Seyfried) meets Chuck Traynor (played by Peter Sarsgaard), and falls in love. Short on money,
Chuck coerces Linda into prostitution and the pornographic film industry. Spending only
seventeen days in the porn industry, Linda becomes the star of one of the most well known
pornographic films in western history, Deep Throat, and receives the stage name of Linda
Lovelace, all while enduring abuse from her manipulative husband. The themes such as sexual
coercion, sex for sale, and gnder roles, are expressed throughout the film. The sexual coercion of
Linda Boreman by Chuck Traynor is what set in motion the events of Linda s ordeal. Until the
end of Linda and Chuck s marriage, Linda was forced into preforming sexual acts on Chuck
Traynor through implied threats as well as physical abuse, thus experiencing acquaintance rape.
Chuck s person being one who conform to traditional gender roles, particularly one of male
dominance, is what Our Sexuality infers from research done by Hartwick et al., 2005, as more
likely to commit rape. However, during the time of Linda s experiences, it was culturally accepted

The Evil of 1889
I could hear the water running from the shower when I came in the front door. That s strange, I
said. I dropped my keys and my yellow Star of David on top of the fridge and headed up the
stairs. The bathroom door was ajar a few inches and water was streaming out. As my fingers
reached out to push the door open the small hairs on my back stood to attention. It was too late;
the masculine hand was already on me. I endeavored to pull the hand away from my blanch face,
but I had already sank into his arms. It was cold. I woke up trying to free myself from the metal
brace. I screamed for help merely hearing an echo from the damp air. I searched in the darkness
for a way out, when all of a sudden a flash of light appeared. I tried to find the source when a
familiar voice called out, Are you comfortable, Leah? Would you like something to eat? Who are
you? What do you want from me? What an incorrect reply. Let me rephrase that. I didn t kidnap
you but I just borrowed you. In shock I said, Borrow me! You can t borrow a human. Are you a
lunatic? Hahaha, young lady you should never call a noble man a lunatic. You should know of the
consequences. The light shut and a sound that resembled electricity was heard nearby. This time I
listened very closely. The sound kept getting louder and closer. Ahhhhhhhhh! My body was
twitching, my hair smelled burnt. I was in an electric chair. The light turned on again. Trying to lift
my head towards the light, the voice came back.

Witchcraft Hysteria
There were many significant factors that came into play at the time of the Salem witchcraft
hysteria. Of the numerable amount of factors that contributed to the hysteria the most influential
were religion, superstition, politics, economics, and concepts of gender during this time period.
People during the 1600 s lacked a basic understanding of how things around them worked
compared to what is known and generally accepted in today s world of science. For this sole reason
the concept of magicand witchcraftwas widely and generally accepted by a large majority of the
population during this time period. People often used false accusations of witchcraft against their
neighbors because it gave them a simple way to steal another person s land. Women were also not
trustworthy sources.
Religion played the most crucial role in the development of the witch hysteria. Residents in the
town of Salem were Puritans, which meant they were very immoderate in their beliefs.
Puritans believed their life purpose was to serve God, which meant vanquishing evil even if
there was no evil present. The average lifestyle of a Puritan was monotonous and dull; they
believed life was meant to be simple, and any spare time should have been spent serving God.
Puritans strived to exterminate any presence of the Devil or evil they could find so they could
pursue their quest of being worthy of being saved by their God. Puritans looked down to people
that did not serve God the same way that they did, and they

Hrm 531 Change Management Plan
Change Management
Within every project, issues occur that require alterations in the schedule or scope of the project.
The change management plan outlines the process in which these recommendations be submitted,
evaluated, and approved or declined (Vaidyanathan, 2013). Appendix CC demonstrates the change
request form that will be utilized by team members. These forms are assessed and reviewed by the
change control board that will be further discussed in the project execution section.
Cost Management
Another element that is essential in the project management plan is the cost management plan. The
main focus of the cost management plan is overseeing the cost of the necessary resources for the
execution of the project (PMI, 2013). This function is completed within the planning stage of an
endeavor to provide a structure to support performance and efficiency throughout the lifecycle of
the undertaking (PMI, 2013). For the AAE Project, analogous and parametric estimating was
utilized in estimating the potential costs of the endeavor. Appendix T shows the cost breakdown of
each activity within the project by separating the salaries, equipment/vendor costs, and vendor
contract costs. Since

The Government s Background Investigation Essay
Topic:
The US government s background investigation process for individuals seeking employment with
US Federal, State, and Local government agencies and private sector organizations is an important
part of US homeland security. Through a thorough investigation of an individual s biographical,
residential, employment, education, military, medical, financial and legal histories, etc.,
information regarding an applicant s background is obtained and a report of investigation (ROI) is
prepared and submitted to an adjudicator for review. After review of the ROI, the adjudicator
makes a determination of an individual s suitability to obtain a security clearance for a position
impacting the US national security. If the results of a background investigation are favorably
adjudicated, the individual is eligible to receive a security clearance; if certain derogatory
information is obtained during the background investigation, an individual can be denied a security
clearance.
Problem:
Although much personal and private information is obtained and reviewed during most background
investigations, there is one glaring omission of information that can prove to be valuable in
determining the suitability for an individual to obtain a security clearance. The information listed
on an individual s social media accounts (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Internet Chat rooms) can
provide invaluable insight into a subject s character, integrity, loyalty, allegiance and other
characteristics

Bhopal Disaster
ASSIGNMENT 1 TITLE:BHOPAL DISASTER DATE: 30 NOVEMBER 2009 1. Abstract The
night of 3rd December marked an industrial disaster when more than 40 tons of methyl isocyanate
gas leaked from a pesticide plant in Bhopal, India that instantly led to the death of approximately
3,800 people and causing permanent injuries for thousands more. The company involved
shamelessly tried to avoid its legal responsibility. Nonetheless, a sum of $470 million was paid as
compensation, a considerably small amount in comparison to the impact from the consequences of
this tragedy. The aftermath of the disaster indicated the need for international standards for

Furthermore, the location of the plant being situated nearby a large lake guaranteed sufficient
water supple for the chemical processes. Electricity needs were also available in Bhopal to
supply enough electricity to the plant that enabled the plant to operate 24 hours. The origin on the
Bhopal plant was to supply pesticide in order to protect the Indian agricultural production. These
pesticides were made to cater to the Indian market and to gain the ability to transform its
agricultural sector into a modern activity. No doubt the benefits, the plant also had its perks. India
is still nonetheless a developing country which at current still lacks the infrastructure necessary to
support this chemical plant. Nevertheless, companies invested in the plant failing to realize the
flaws in the infrastructure. The impracticality of the plant s management brought the creation of
a low cost plant with minimal safety features. UCIL also had weak policies, procedures and
regulations for their workers. The management s goals and missions were set beyond the plant s
capability and this is said to be one of the main causes of the tragedy. 4. Industrial Processes and

necessary steps to ensure that anyone in receipt of the previously issued financial statements
together with the auditor s report thereon is informed of the situation and does not revise the
financial statements in circumstances where the auditor believes they need to be revised, the
auditor would notify those charged with governance of the entity that action will be taken by the
auditor to prevent future reliance on the auditor s report. The action taken will depend on the
auditor s legal rights and obligations and recommendations of the auditor s lawyers.
2. Given your previous answer, do you believe that Touche Ross complied with the applicable
professional standards after learning of the error in AFS s 1985 financial statements? Explain.
Answer:
Based on the previous answer, I believed that Touche Ross did not comply with the applicable
professional standards which are International Standard of Auditing (ISA) 560. When the personnel
of Touche Ross discovered that the AFS s 1985 financial statements contained a material
misstatement, they attempted to persuade AFS to recall the company s 1985 financial statements.

The Radical And The Republican Essay
In the book, The Radical and the Republican: Fredrick Douglass, Abraham Lincoln, and the
triumph of Antislavery Politics, written by James Oakes connected the politics and the point of
views of both Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass towards the issue of slavery and the
emancipation of slaves. Oakes interpretations of both men were very detailed in showing their
reason and politics behind their positions they served in society on the topic of slavery. Abraham
Lincoln, the republican, and Fredrick Douglass, the radical, two incredibly distinct people, yet
both shared similar views towards their hatred on the institution of slavery and their highest
hopes for freedom. How can a relationship so different, yet a like lead to the road to emancipation
of the slaves? Both men had different reasons for their detestation toward slavery, yet both
worked to bring the emancipation and fix the injustice regarding the slaves. Douglass worked by
being a famous orator preached against slavery and eventually joined the Republican Party where
he worked with Lincoln and the party to promote and work toward the end of slavery. By 1858
Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass were saying the same thing, preaching the same
antislavery politics. Liberty or Slavery must become law of the land (Oakes 5) Beyond Garrisonian
newspapers, he began to embrace abolitionist politics and the idea that the Constitution supported
slave emancipation. Lincoln saw the Constitution as neither a clarion

The Tower Of The Ruins Of Jericho
Stairs are one of the oldest structures in architectural history. They have always been an
important part of a building or structure because without them you wouldn t be able to get from
the bottom to the top or vice versa. There is no actual answer of when the very first set of stairs
was created. But there has been several sources say that the oldest surviving stairs are found in
the ruins of Jericho. There are claims that these stairs are over 7,000 years old. This could mean
that stairs were at the very birth of civilization itself. One of the first types of stairs used in
history were not made on purpose but were just worn down when they were used as rocks to
climb on or foot holes to get around easier. There was a time when chopped wood trunks
constructed together to make levels, but these were not used in buildings, they were used to
overcome the difficulties of the harsh terrain of the mountains and valleys. These were used as a
survival tool the less time you had moving around in the harsh woods when you could use the
tree trunks to get to a higher and safer place. At the start stairs ad started off as a survival tool,

Comparing Philbrick s View Of Different Authors Contributions
Despite Philip s tremendous experience with selling land to the English, Philbrick unfairly
portrays the king as as an indecisive ruler and poor decision maker. For over a decade the
Wampanoag ruler had been the intermediary for native land sales to English proprietors. As
Philbrick explains, any Pilgrim man wishing to obtain native land was required to make the
purchase through the official Plymouth court, thereby preventing unfair sales (like alcohol for
land) that the Indians could later dispute. One would imagine that in dealing only with the officials,
as opposed to the men purchasing the land, Philip would be granted greater protection from any one
of the potential abuses that he could suffer from. But instead, Philbrick recounts how, by
monopolizing the purchase of Indian lands, Plymouth officials kept the prices they paid artificially
low (171).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Philip, who had his own animal herd, would have been aware of the uncontrollable factors that
were also at play, such as the unhappiness which arose when English cows and horses grazed on
Indian corn. Even as he assumed leadership thirteen years before the war, Philip would have been
in tune with the inevitable and growing threat English settlements posed to his people. Yet instead
of attempting to appease the Indians by granting them permission to go on wild, ineffective raids,
which would have only motivated the English, Philip waited until he could gather an effective,
armed, multi tribe force before he waged war. By delaying his response and refusing to allow
personal vendettas be the spark for battle, tactful Philip is inaccurately described by

Ender s Game By Orson Scott Card
Rufus Mosley Intro to Business Professor: Weisberg Exam 2 1.Ender s Game by Orson Scott
Card was a tremendous book. Though it may not have been the most entertaining book out there,
it definitely had some good points in the storyline. The themes I noticed in the book were
compassion and tyranny, along with the role that children can play. The protagonist in the book
is Ender Wiggins, and the antagonist is Peter Wiggins. The personal meaning I took from this
book is that it does not matter your age on what you can achieve. Ender is just a young boy who
leads and saves the world. The book takes place in the future even though it was written in the 80
s. Ender is born into a family of highly intelligent people. As a child he is hated by his brother,
Peter, along with other schoolmates and is protected by his sister, Valentine. He has to leave
Valentine behind when he is taken away to Battle School, which is located on a ship very far
away from earth so he can assist in the fight against the buggers. Ender shows off his extreme
intelligence and is separated from the rest of the recruits by Colonel Graff of the International
Fleet. Ender then becomes friends with a recruit name Alai. This aids Ender to make friends and fit
in with people. Ender is noticed by the military commanders because of his dominance in the mind
game . He is promoted to the Salamander Army shortly after. While in the Salamander Army, Ender
becomes friends with the only girl, Petra Arkanian, but is

Dreaming of Home Essay examples
Dreaming of Home
Everyday, after waking up, I realized that I had been dreaming about home again. I lay staring at
the ceiling for a moment or two. Then, dragging myself from the bed, I walked to the window
and threw open the curtains. The wide open space of the New Mexico high desert stared back
blankly at me. The cobalt blue skies, peach colored Sandia Mountains and endless waves of
sagebrush and juniper stood in stark contrast to my dreamscape. For the past eight years, my first
view of the day was this one. But today was different. Today, I was going home.
I grew up in Dublin in the 1970s. To understand how that shaped the person I am today, you have to
understand something about Ireland at that time. It has been said by ... Show more content on

None of my playmates in Dublin considered me to be a true Dubliner even though I d spent most
of my life there. My parents were country people and my accent was definitely not the same as
my sundry schoolyard friends and associates. It still had too much of the country about it. Of
course, in the country, people could only hear the harsh ring of the Dublin accent that I was
slowly picking up. So I was never fully accepted there either other than as somewhat of a curiosity.
A great division has always existed between Dubliners and the rest of the country. Even the
lowliest of the Dublin low consider themselves eminently superior to their poor, unrefined bog
dwelling cousins. The simple fact is that because they are lucky enough to hail from Dublin, they
are therefore born with an innate superiority. Alas for them, it is a massive exercise in self
deception. To my country born brethren, this is no great new discovery.
My memories of childhood are now, of course, colored by my later experiences. Our
neighborhood was a fairly new working class suburb on the outer edges of the northside of
Dublin. I see now how monochrome and homogenous the society around me was at that time.
Everyone I knew was white and freckle faced and everyone was catholic to some or other degree
of devotion. There were whispered rumors of actual protestants living down the street from us, and
until a tiny influx of Cambodian refugees into the country in the late 70s and early 80s, this

Seventh-Day Adventists
Introduction
Seventh day Adventists
The Seventh day Adventist Church is a Millennialist Protestant Christian denomination that was
founded in the 1860s in the USA.
The name Seventh day Adventist is based on the Church s observance of the biblical Sabbath on
Saturday, the seventh day of the week. Advent means coming and refers to their belief that Jesus
Christ will soon return to this earth.
Seventh day Adventists differ in only four areas of beliefs from the mainstream Trinitarian
Christian denominations. These are the Sabbath day, the doctrine of the heavenly sanctuary, the
status of the writings of Ellen White, and their doctrine of the second coming and millennium.
Adventists live modest lives, with a strict code of ethics. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The remnant
The remnant is a church that has the duty of keeping faith in Jesus and obedience to God s
commandments alive in this time when many people have abandoned true faith.
This remnant announces the arrival of the judgment hour, proclaims salvation through Christ, and
heralds the approach of the second coming.
The great controversy
The great controversy is the battle between Satan and Christ. Humanity is involved in this battle
and should choose Christ.
The Heavenly Sanctuary
The correct understanding of the ministration in the heavenly sanctuary is the foundation of our
faith.
Ellen G. White, Evangelism
The Old Testament teaches that the Aaronic priests ministered within a sanctuary.
That sanctuary (a tabernacle or a temple) was a man made version of the sanctuary that God
created in Heaven, which is the Temple of God in Heaven; the place where God lives.
Adventists believe that Christ, as the high priest of the new covenant, ministers in the heavenly
sanctuary.
He said to me, It will take 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the sanctuary will be reconsecrated.
Daniel 8:14
We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in
heaven, and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by man.
Hebrews 8: 1 2
The heavenly sanctuary has two areas the holy place and the most holy place. When Christ went

Analyzing Perry s Simple Word Choices
The author of this book seems to give a mostly simple word choice for most of the characters of
this book, and sets a more light hearted tone for the story, especially in the first half of the book.
One of the characters who word choice reflects their character and gives insight to their traits is the
main character, Perry. Quotes such as the following help to establish Perry s character, and gives
us an idea of how he usually thinks. It is called a compressor and makes a rumble rumble noise.
It blows up inner tubes and fenders. Those are squishy things on boats that need to be blown up.
I am very good at blowing up fenders with the compressor (Wood, 6%). This word choice shows
Perry simple and limited vocabulary, as he is one point off of being considered to have an... Show

Another passage that helps to reflect Perry and his word choice is the following paragraph, It
takes me longer to learn something, but when I do, I learn it good (Wood, 6%). This is another
example of Perry s simple word choice due to borderline intellectual disability, but this quote also
shows Perry has a hard time learning key concepts of how to function in the wood, but can
eventually learn to master tasks. Some of these tasks may be learning to use an air compressor,
and once he eventually learns how to do these tasks he feels great joy and accomplishment.
Another major character in the story is Perry s Grandma, or Gram. Gram seems to have a word
choice that shows that she is a person who has worked hard for what she has, and she hold strong
traditional values usually attached to around the time period of the Baby Boomers generation. This

West Saxon
It was spoken in the region south of the Thames (southern and southwestern England). This area
was mainly settled by West Saxons, so this dialect soon became known as Wessex. Most of the OE

  • 4. Submission And Dominance In David Fincher s Fight Club David Fincher s 1999 film Fight Club is about much more than a club for fighting. Fincher presents many deep and intricate themes that one wouldn t typically expect from a 90s action movie. One such theme is submission and dominance. The story follows a narrator who is in a situation that many fear in the modern age. He works a boring, nine to five office job, and he struggles to find any meaning in his commonplace life. As a response to this problem, the man, who I will now refer to as the narrator, subconsciously creates a persona named Tyler Durden, who is the powerful and masculine man that the narrator always wanted to be. This character that the narrator creates helps him in making the fight club: a secret organization of men who fight... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After his boss threatens to fire him, the narrator has a sudden urge to start punching himself. Security officers enter the room to see the boss standing over the narrators bruised and bloodied body. They immediately arrest him, and the narrator receives more money, which he uses to help fight club. In this strange instance, the narrator lets out both his dominant and submissive side at the same. He lets out his dominant side by inflicting harm, but at the same time he is being submissive because he is also the one receiving harm. By doing this, the narrator achieved his goal of not being fired, and even received an added bonus, albeit through a very unorthodox method. Arguably, this same concept can be seen at the end of the movie. Despite all the negative things that had happened to Tyler and the narrator throughout the course of the film, they both got what they wanted in the end. Tyler collapses all the bank buildings, and makes the narrator more like him. The narrator destroys Tyler, and becomes a powerful, strong willed man. The union between the two sides began when the narrator put his gun up to his mouth. Throughout the whole movie, Tyler did whatever he wanted to the narrator, and the narrator was powerless to stop it. The narrator putting the gun to his mouth represents the first time that the narrator has control over Tyler. By strengthening the submissive side and weakening the dominant side, both sides are brought into balance, which leads to the semi positive conclusion to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When individuals are asked why they donate blood, their response is simple, it is heartwarming as well as a rewarding feeling. Donating bloodis not easy for some people, especially if it is the first time, they may not know what to expect and they may be nervous. Sanford In the history of the United States Supreme Court, there are a multitude of cases that have left an indelible mark in the tapestry of American history, culture, and society. Among these landmark disputes may be found issues as divisive as reproductive health, fundamental economic freedoms, the power of the Supreme Court and, of course, race. Among these, Dred Scott v. Sanford occupies a special place. Often called as the worst decision made by the Supreme Court , Dred Scott v. Sanford provided an impetus for slavers to continue an injustice that had existed since the colonial era . By deciding the way it did, the United States Supreme Court also created a divide between the northern and southern states a divide so great that it eventually led to the American Civil War. Such an enormous effect on the sentiment of the times warrants a closer look at the decisions of the justices involved in the Dred Scott decision. Doing so will also shed light into the intricate logic behind the justices decisions essentially the reasons why they concurred or dissented from the main opinion written by Chief Justice Roger B. Taney. The process of interrogating the Supreme Court s interpretation of the Constitution will also reveal the fundamental societal sentiment regarding slavery and African Americans at the time. As a result, the U.S. has many institutions that differ from other advanced industrial democracies. One of the most prominent differences between the U.S. and the rest of the industrialized world resides in our legal systems. Many differences exist between civil and common law traditions and the United Stateslegal system would have stark changes if it switched to a civil legal system. A key difference between civil and common law legal systems is the role of the legal code. With the defendant under the presumption of innocence, these judges and the court act as neutral actors and let the two opposing sides argue their case in front of a jury. Because of this, the common law system is referred to as adversarial (Poloni Staudinger and Wolf 2016, p.100). • 29. An Analysis Of Cold As Heaven By Judith Ortiz Cofer Cold as Heaven Judith Ortiz Cofer s poem Cold as Heaven is a very sweet interaction between a granddaughter and her dying grandmother. The granddaughter is the narrator. After reading the poem, I believe the meaning of the poem is that the cold is something that the grandmother never experienced, and the cold refers to heaven. The grandmother has not yet experienced heaven and she is curious. In lines 25 30: When her eyes return to me, I can see she s waiting to hear more about the purifying nature of ice, how snow makes way for a body, how you can make yourself an angel by just lying down and waving your arms (Cofer). These lines describe winter as a place where angels are made. It mentions that even when the snow touches you, it is a feeling of purification. This symbolizes that heaven is a place filled with angels that purify you. The poem consists of many different uses of figurative language in order to connect snow to death. Cofer included the use of similes to allow the readers to make a connection to what she was saying, so that they could grasp a better understanding. An example of a simile can be found in lines 6 7: the Caribbean sun winds up the world like an old alarm clock (Cofer). The author is comparing two unlike things, the sun and an alarm clock, however they have a similar connection. The Caribbean sun is what wakes the world, just like an alarm clock does. The use of this simile adds to the poem s meaning because it describes the life that the grandmother lives and that is warmth in her home in the Caribbean. There is a lot of imagery included in the poem. Throughout the poem I was able to visualize what the author descriptively shared. The poem includes descriptions of where the grandmother lives in the Caribbean, where the granddaughter lives with the winter weather, and how heaven looks through the eyes of the granddaughter s comparison to winter. As I read through the poem several time, I looked for some mention of Christianity. I found it in lines 1 2: Before there is a breeze again before the cooling days of Lent, she may be gone (Cofer). Obviously, it is a Christian belief that when you die you will go to heaven. I wondered how long grandma ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. African Slaves During The United States Essay When black slavery first started in the United States, all the slaves were being imported from Africa. Slowly overtime slaves were being born in the United States instead of solely being brought from Africa. The birth rate of the slaves was not high enough to depend on the reproduction of slaves in the south though. This resulted in a combination of both American born slaves and African born slaves on plantations. Eventually, there was a division between the two groups of slaves in the Southern part of the United States. The division was caused as the American, or creole, slave began to assimilate towards the white culture and the African, or saltwater, slaves clung to their native culture and religion. As the American slaves moved closer to the white culture, they began to look upon the African slaves with contempt, found their African traditions barbarous, and the wants of the two groups of slaves began to look very different. The first reason for the division between the creole and saltwater slaves is the view the creole slaves had on the saltwater slaves. The creole slaves viewed the African slaves with contempt and fear . Charles Lyell and Newbell Puckett wrote that the American slaves looked upon the African slaves with the same contempt that the whites looked with upon all negroes . This shows that as the American slaves slowing began to imitate white culture, they began to look down upon those who did not and viewed themselves above the saltwater slave. Lyell goes ... • 31. California Vehicle Code Section 22500 ( F ) Essay California Vehicle Code Section 22500 (f) Application in the City of Los Angeles The City of Los Angeles is notorious for its space congestion: in most neighborhoods, simply finding an open parking spot is considered a luxury. To make matters worse, California vehicle code section 22500 (f) exacerbates Los Angeles congestion as it precludes vehicles from extending over any portion of a sidewalk or onto a street. This paper will draw attention to the fact that 22500 requires amendment, doing so would both reduce space congestion and ease vehicle accessibility. In July 1990, Americans rejoiced over enhanced and extended civil rights legislation granted to millions of Americans with disabilities. It was not long after the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 was codified that public entities and public transportation underwent expansive legislative restructuring in order to comply with the new standards. Via title ii of the ADA, municipalities became responsible for ensuring that public transportation be inclusive to all citizens including those with disabilities, providing the latter easy access parking spots and wheelchair ramps. Then, in June 2002 in the United States Court of Appeals, Barden v. Sacramento ruled that the ADA also applied to public sidewalks, requiring cities to make clear of debris and leave open all public walkways, citing those who failed to comply. The Barden v. Sacramento ruling enforced that anything from a trashcan to a vehicle blocking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Categorize Short Story By Eileen Chang Summary Once Upon a Time: Folktale Elements in Eileen Chang s Short Stories Eileen Chang was a Chinese novelist who was known for her stories depicting 20th century Chinese life, a time and place in which different cultures collided. Instead of depicting a perspective aligned with either modern or traditional outlooks, Chang s work manages to reject blanket opinions of whether one is better than the other and illustrates a world far more nuanced and that reflects the mixing of worlds and ideas happening in the modern era. One of the most prominent ways she does so is through the use of folk story themes: Chang uses folk elements to destroy and to satirize dichotomies that the reader may rely on to categorize her stories, in effect depicting a more nuanced China in which opposites work together. In Aloeswood Incense, Chang uses folk tale elements to highlight the falseness of the world that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like Aloeswood Incense, the story is introduced by the narrator inviting the reader to listen to his or her tale, as if the story is being told orally. This theme is reinforced later when the narrator switches from present to past tense, and cannot decide the age of the story s protagonist. In addition, the narrator observes that Chuanqing [seems] to have dozed off (79). This subjectivity of the narrator distances the reader from the story, but at the same time Chang s focus on Chuanqing s inner thoughts pulls the reader into his mind. The effect of these contrasting themes is that the reader is able to criticize Chuanqing s choices but also to empathize with him, reflecting a balance between the traditional judging of anyone who challenges the social order, as seen in Lu Xun s Diary of a Madman, and the more modern exploration of the self as a reflection of the surrounding ... Of the numerable amount of factors that contributed to the hysteria the most influential were religion, superstition, politics, economics, and concepts of gender during this time period. As Philbrick explains, any Pilgrim man wishing to obtain native land was required to make the purchase through the official Plymouth court, thereby preventing unfair sales (like alcohol for land) that the Indians could later dispute. One would imagine that in dealing only with the officials, as opposed to the men purchasing the land, Philip would be granted greater protection from any one of the potential abuses that he could suffer from. • 50. Seventh-Day Adventists Introduction Seventh day Adventists The Seventh day Adventist Church is a Millennialist Protestant Christian denomination that was founded in the 1860s in the USA. The name Seventh day Adventist is based on the Church s observance of the biblical Sabbath on Saturday, the seventh day of the week. Advent means coming and refers to their belief that Jesus Christ will soon return to this earth. Seventh day Adventists differ in only four areas of beliefs from the mainstream Trinitarian Christian denominations. These are the Sabbath day, the doctrine of the heavenly sanctuary, the status of the writings of Ellen White, and their doctrine of the second coming and millennium. Adventists live modest lives, with a strict code of ethics. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This remnant announces the arrival of the judgment hour, proclaims salvation through Christ, and heralds the approach of the second coming. The great controversy The great controversy is the battle between Satan and Christ. Humanity is involved in this battle and should choose Christ. That sanctuary (a tabernacle or a temple) was a man made version of the sanctuary that God created in Heaven, which is the Temple of God in Heaven; the place where God lives. Adventists believe that Christ, as the high priest of the new covenant, ministers in the heavenly sanctuary. He said to me, It will take 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the sanctuary will be reconsecrated. Daniel 8:14 We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by man. Hebrews 8: 1 2 The heavenly sanctuary has two areas the holy place and the most holy place. When Christ went from Earth to Heaven he went into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
