Twelfth Night Social Order
Change in Social Order If there was no way of out of your current social status, would you be
happy with it? Twelfth Night is one of the great comedies written by William Shakespeare. The
play showcases many truths about society. Status was important in the Elizabethan Age, and
people could not raise in the social ranks. The purpose of turning over the social order in Twelfth
Night is to reveal that status is just a label through showing love does not abide by these
boundaries, status does not display true character, and status is not obtained by those who aim for
it. First of all, love does not have any boundaries because it is merely the attraction and adoration of
another person, no matter their age, status, race, and beliefs. Many characters in Twelfth Night fall

Malvolio is tricked into thinking the lady of the house is in love with him and does everything
he can to please her. Malvolio believes he will be the Duke of the house with servants at his feet
and loads of fortunes. Malvolio pleases the countess by smiling, cross gartering, and wearing
yellow stockings all of which are absurd and Olivia laughs at him for his foolishness. Olivia later
feels sorry for Malvolio because he was considered a madman for thinking she was in love with
him and partially for that he could move up in the hierarchy. Sebastian, on the other hand, was
placed in a great situation. Or I am mad, or else this is a dream. Let fancy still my sense in Lethe
steep. If it be thus to dream, still let me sleep. (IV.iii.145) Olivia was fooled by Sebastian s
similar appearance to Cesario and asked Sebastian to marry her. Of course he said yes because
someone wealthy was offering. Sebastian was not looking to move up in the social order, but when
presented with the chance he took it. Sebastian and Malvolio were two completely different
characters, but both experienced the dream of success in the social

The Issue Of The Environment And Globalisation
The past few centuries have seen such a drastic change in the world in terms of human activities
that it has resulted in an enormously significant change in our planet. For a better understanding,
the process which brings all people and communities across the globe come together to experience
a progressively universal economic, social and cultural environment is called globalisation. Thus,
by definition, the process of globalisation affects everybody throughout the world and also has a
significant impact on the environment. As said by James Arvanitakis (Arvanitakis p.166), the issue
of the environment and globalisation is the most pressing issue facing the world today .
Globalisation is thought to be a major cause behind change of climatethat is experienced currently
in the world. However, there are those who support and agree with the notion that climate change
actually poses a global risk and those who do not agree with it. The debate on the extent of climate
change being a global risk, which is called climate change science, is one that is of high interest for
various groups in Australia who either agree with the view or disagree with it for their own reasons
and each one has their own arguments regarding the subject. Global climate change is part of the
larger Anthropocene syndrome of human induced global environmental changes. These include
land degradation, ocean acidification, and disruptions and depletions of the stratospheric ozone
concentration, soil fertility,

The Impact Of Pcaob s New Audit Standard On Regulators,...
On December 15, 2015, the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) posted new
final regulations that require auditors of public companies to disclose the identity of the
engagement partner on each audit, as well as information on other accounting firms that
participated in each audit (PCAOB 2015). Although the new AuditStandards seem to be perfectly
reasonable and relatively low in cost, they obviously will impose a certain workload on
accounting firms, which will translate into certain additional costs. So who pays for this? Not the
PCAOB, of course, but the accounting firms, who will no doubt pass these costs on to their clients.
In this paper, I will analyze the impact of PCAOB s new audit standard on regulators, financial...

In Taiwan, every audit report requires the disclosure of both the audit firm and the audit
engagement partner s name (Huang, 2009). The fact that many large economy countries like
Taiwan follows the standard shows that this rule is effective in enhance audit quality as well as
the public trust in audit at a certain degree. An audit partner plays a very important role in the
quality of the audit. They primarily responsible for the final audit quality even though audit
quality is the result of the whole audit team. Therefore, having audit engagement partner s name
disclosed will hold an audit partner more responsible for the audit report. The partners will have
to make sure their audit team really perform effective audit work, which results in a higher audit
quality. Moreover, financial report users will feel more comfortable to reliance on the audit report
when they know in confidence the person who holds accountability for the audit report is. The
ultimate purpose of the PCAOB is to improve the quality of financial reporting and its benefits to
users. For the same reason, making the U.S auditing standards compatible with its global
counterparts would improve audit quality and usefulness, especially since many U.S companies
practice internationally.
In addition, having the information about engagement partner s names and about other accounting
companies who are working on the engagement would help regulators and investors in locating

Ivanhoe Analysis
Even Without Capes Ivanhoe was written by Sir Walter Scott in 1819. Set in England, between
the towns of Sheffield and Doncaster, Ivanhoe occurred during the end of the Third Crusade. At
this time, England was under the temporary rule of Prince John. Prince John sided with Philip of
France to ensure that his brother, King Richard, was kept in captivity by the Duke of Austria. He
feared Richard and was horrified by the prospect of his brother s return, as he wanted England
under his own rule. In Ivanhoe, King Richard eventually escaped from his imprisonment and
returned to England. He waited for the reinforcement of his allies to reclaim his throne. Even
though he was a Norman, Richard helped the rival Saxons. He wanted to end the dissension
between these groups as the Saxons felt oppressed by their Norman conquerors. He also obtained
help from the Saxons to defeat untrustworthy Norman leaders. Known as Coeur de Lion, Richard
was actually extremely similar to Beowulf. Beowulf was a powerful warrior, who travelled to aid
the Danish King, Hrothgar, in the defeat of Grendel. Grendel was a monster, who had overtaken
Hrothgar s great mess hall. For twelve years, Grendel ravaged Heorot. Beowulf decided to save the
Danes from this man devourer. King Richard and Beowulf were both heroes. A superhero is
defined as an exceptionally skillful or successful person. Both King Richard and Beowulf were
courageous while facing their rivals, loyal to others, and skilled warriors. One

The Development Of Qin Shi Huang In China
Power. It is a concept that has always been part of human societies regardless of time period or
area. Though expressed in different ways and structures, it was and still is part of human
civilizations today. However, within the establishments of power, many conflicts arise for both
those in power and those governed by the rulers, such as problems over the selection of new
authority figures and the retainment of their power. This conflict can be recognized from the ruling
of Qin Shi Huangin China in the mid 200s BC. He is well known for uniting the Chinese states
during the Warring States Period, in which the country was broken up into states that were in a war
for dominance (Mark). Shi Huang ultimately founded the Qin Dynasty and worked to improve
humanity by helping construct the Great Wall for defense and the Lingqu Canal for commerce
(Mark). However, he later began to threaten those who refused to comply with his ideas, and he
became more concerned with becoming immortal and keeping his power (Szczepanski).
Due to his obsessive desire over the idea of immortality and maintaining his imperial status in the
afterlife, Qin Shi Huang decided to recreate the entire Chinese empire underground as his tomb
(Szczepanski). About 700,000 laborers were hired to build this mausoleum over a course of 36
years; more than 8,000 unique, life size terracotta soldiers as well as horses, chariots, jewelry, and
ritual ships were created ( Qin Tomb ). These terracotta soldiers each had

Historically Black Colleges And Universities (Hbcus)
I.Topic
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) principle mission is the education of Black
Americans (Redd, 1998). The first historically black colleges and universities were founded in the
pre Civil War years (mid and late 1800s). Cheyney Statae University (originally called The Institute
for Colored Youth) was founded in Pennsylvania in 1837. This university was founded as a normal
school by Pennsylvania Quakers. The first two post secondary institutions specifically for Blacks
were founded in 1854 and 1856. Ashmun Institute (later renamed Lincoln University of
Pennsylvania), the first, was founded by Presbyterians and Wilberforce University in Ohio. The
second was founded by the Methodist Episcopal Church. These institutions, ... Show more content

to have a minimum of one land grant institution specifically for blacks. The funding that was
allocated for the establishment and maintenance of this black college has to be equivalent to
their white counterparts (Reed, 1998). The passage of this act was a significant force in
increasing the number of HBCUs. This act required admissions criteria for already established
universities to rid race as a factor or to provide a separate land grant institution for Blacks. As
stated by Albritton, the Second Morrill Act contained a clause that stated No money shall be paid

distinction of race or color is made in the admission of students, but the establishment and
maintenance of such colleges separately for white and colored students should be held to be a

Tess Of The D Urbervilles By Thomas Hardy
The novel, Tess of the d Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy depicts the heroine, Tess and the tragedies
that are seemingly continuously finding their way to her. Tess s tragedy is caused by the
societal environment that she is in that finds value in gender divisions and economic growth as
well as religious beliefs. The internal strife that Tess faces along with those in Tess s life are the
cause of her downfall. Hardy shows that Tess is fated to fail throughout the novel by creating
characters that impede on her success who represent the values of era. The most prominent reason
why Tess has such a tragic ending is due to the people that have a great influence on her, these
people being her parents, Alec d Urberville, and the man she falls in... Show more content on

When Alec and Tess are riding to Tantridge in the cart, he drives it wildly, scaring Tess and forcing
her to beg him to slow down. Alec states, If anyone can manage this horse I can... which feeds into
the ideology that men were to be in control (39). The societal rules are what controls the actions of
the characters throughout the novel which cause Tess s downfall.
During the novel, Europe is going through industrialization. The industrialization of cities around
Tess caused a sort of deconstruction for those who were living in more rural areas of Wessex. With
the growth of industrialization came the growth of capitalism. Tess s familyis poor and large living

hopes of being given an employment opportunity. After meeting with Alec for a short while at
the d Urberville estate, Tess finds herself to be overwhelmed with the riches of the d Urbervilles

failures of Tess s family are a great factor of Tess s downfall. She is unable to become the teacher

Car Vs Driving A Car
What do you think was easier to learn, to ride a bike or to drive a car? I feel both are pretty easy
to drive once you overcome the fears you have and fix the things that you struggle with. There s
a lot that goes into both a bike and a car, but some things more than others. A bike and a car are
both great ways to get around, but balance, road sense, safety and responsibility differ between
the two. To start off, a bike requires more balance. Bikes have two wheels so it s much harder to
stay up. When you first learn to ride a bike without training wheels, you have to learn how to stay
up on it first. Once you start to gain balance and are able to stay up, then you able to ride your
bike. Another thing is that it s easier to get hurt. A bike doesn t have outside protection so if you
fall or have an encounter with a car, you would get majorly hurt. Unlike a bike, a car had four
tires rather than two. So it s easier for a car to stay up since there s tires evenly supporting it. It s
one less thing to worry about when riding a bike than it is to drive a car because there s not the
first step in trying to learn how to balance when driving a car. Another thing that is different is
road sense. When riding a bike, people usually stay off to the side of the road while also being
cautious of the cars around you. Some places have a small section labeled for bikes to be ritten
and others do not, so some cyclists ride more into the street with cars. Bikes don t have blinkers
and signals

relation to the learning goals of this unit.
One important strength is the sequence of testing along the unit. Throughout the diagnostic test,
teacher can determine the student s existing knowledge and design the lessons for the rest of the

understanding, adjust the lesson, and provide immediate feedback to the students. Mid unit
formative assessment on day 11, will evaluate student s knowledge related to the lesson, identifying
strengths, weaknesses, and target areas that need to be reviewed. The summative assessment at the

Our Spiritual Growth
How do I know that I am growing up spiritually?
First of all, if we want to know whether we are growing up spiritually or not, we must know what
the meaning of growing spiritually is. Spirituality is our human capacity for God which allows us
to recognise God or the movement of God in our lives and, in the light of this recognition and
experience of God, our lived response to God (quoted from SF from the heart pdf). We can define
growing up spiritually as the processes when our human capacity to recognize, experience, and
response to God is increasing and we much more love and value God as our partner of marriage.
The processes are through the steps how we encounter God, what we know of God, and how we
love God.
The first step of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I want to know God perfectly, God with a perfect purpose. And I have the truth revealed in my
live through many experience with God. Every time I know God more or something new, I feel
joy and amazed how awesome and almighty God is, I have my faith grow up. I got the most of
knowledge in my Senior High and University. Then, my knowledge is strengthened within the
community of church. But with more knowledge, we have more responsibility to God which is to
do the right things according what we have already known. Knowing God is like knowing and
understanding your spouse, it is not only for the theologians, but all the follower of Christ. The
purpose of theology is to become more like Jesus Christ. For me, until now, I am still growing in
my theology, and I am looking forward to know and understand God much more, knowing His
every plan in my life.
The last step of the spiritual growth is the spirituality itself, how we love God. From the Bible, we
can see Matthew 22:37 that we must love the God with all your heart, with all your soul, and
with your entire mind and we can see John 14:15 that if we love God, we will obey God s
commandments. Loving God means that we love God as the first priority and obey His
commandments. It is also said in the bible John 4:21, whoever loves God, must love his brother

Depletion Of Water In Easter Island
The Extinction of Water
Water is a fundamental resource necessary for all life on Earth. Humanity would be extinct
without it. People think there is an unlimited supply of water, however there is not. The overuse of
water is a problem that needs to be stopped. Society needs to learn to live in a more sustainable
way. If humanity continues to overuse Earth s natural resources the way it does today, the Earth
will run dry. To prevent the depletion of water, people need to be aware of their impact on the
environment and live sustainably. By controlling the population, limiting fossil fuel usage, and

The Perfect Homecoming
The Perfect Homecoming
J.K. Rowling once said, Rock bottom became the foundation on which I rebuilt my life. In 2017
the United States had one of the harshest hurricane seasons in a long time, leaving a lot of people
at rock bottom . During the season Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Houston. The Washington
post said, Harvey has unloaded 9 trillion gallons of water. The Weather Channel stated that
Rockport, TX experienced 130 MPH winds. The storm was devastating, flooding most of the city
which destroyed countless buildings and homes. When one thinks of home, the first thing that
comes to mind is not always school. But to the students and staff of Lutheran South Academy,
their school was not just a place to learn; but a community where everyone feels like they are a
part of a family. When disaster strikes, people lean on family for support. The disaster of Hurricane
Harvey did a number on the campus, destroying many of the buildings belonging to this community.
The flooding of the LSA campus due to Hurricane Harvey displaced the institution forcing them to
struggle with the efforts of rebuilding what was destroyed in the flood. However, if people would
endure the struggle together and help rebuild instead of leaving when complications arrive then
LSA would be restored in better time and of better quality.

The Labeling Of Genetically Engineered Crops
Introduction: In an immense variation of ways, farmers grow their crops and keep them healthy
and ready for distribution. The need for a greater variety of healthy and resistant crop is consistently
rising as populations continue to increase around the world. Yet, agricultural food scientists have
manipulated the DNAstructure of countless foods. One main concern for consumers is the use of
GMOs, genetically engineered crops. However, GMOs are very hard to find when manufacturers
claim to not have them in their products and also not completely healthy. To provide information to
customers, labeling requirements have been set up in many countries to aid international trade. In
this experiment we will test different foods to find traces of GMO including one that claims to not
contain GMOs. We hypothesize that the lettuce sample would not contain any GMO genes.
Material and Methods:

History Of The Topographical Engineers
The history of the Topographical Engineers defines and highlights many changes in the Army
over the years. The resources and assets provided over the years has changed in some dynamics.
Engineers have always and will always provide many needed skill sets. Engineers have been the
driving force through the years for the military. It has been the engineers that provided an
unexplained amount of capabilities to the battlefield. Those capabilities were not just limited to
war though. The contributions of the engineers have been used on the civil side during times of
peace as well. The engineers have always provided an ever evolving skill that is in broad use in
multiple ways. Topographical Engineers saw many changes in the early years leading to the
engineers of today. Those changes have in no way changed the mission set forth in the beginning
by the Topographical Engineers, to the current mission of the Corp of Engineers today. In all those
changes and restructure engineers still and will always be one of the greatest assets the Army has

Origin of the Topographical Engineers The history of the engineers dates all the way back to the

there would be three positions. The first of the three positions would be the Chief Engineer along
with two assistant engineers. This would the start to the Corps of Engineers. It was not until 1812

A Comparison Of Maroon V And One Band
Maroon V and OneRepublic Maroon V (five). OneRepublic. Both of these are bands you have
probably heard of on the radio at least once. Maroon V is quite a bit further ahead than
OneRepublic despite the fact that they are just a few years apart in age. The reasoning behind that
could be that they are obviously similar. It is probably just because Adam Levine is a swoon
worthy man.
There are many ways in which the bands are similar, but are there really that many in the ways
they are different? Well, when it comes to how you can differentiate the two, the only way to do it
is to go through the statistics. Both Maroon V and OneRepublic s songs sound somewhat similar,
but what makes them different is where they got their inspiration from. In an interview with Adam
Levine, he stated that his band s inspiration came from a number of singers and bands, including
Michael Jackson, Tupac, Justin Timberlake, Marvin Gaye, and Billy Joel. That was only a few.
OneRepublic s Ryan Tedderstated that when the group gets together, they like to get a little bit of
inspiration from some singers, but they like to make their music by whatever comes to them. The
few influence OneRepublic had included M83, U2, and the Beatles. The only common influential
artist between the two bands was Prince. Who wouldn t want to be like Prince?
The two bands also differ in terms of popularity. Sure you hear OneRepublic from time to time,
but do you hear it nearly as much as you hear Maroon V? There was never a

Analysis Of William Shakespeare s Sonnet 1
Unit 4 Journal C.S. Lewis, Sonnet 1 (from Five Sonnets), pages 476 477 Shadow and Light This
sonnet brings to mind the feelings one has when faced with fear or loss. Lewis puts it
beautifully that we all grieve in different manners, but that our pain is the same. I feel that he
makes a call for people to be more understanding of others. That just because someone does not
show the same emotion as you, does not mean they do not feel. It means they feel in a different
manner. Lewis also says, we do not shout and shake our fists at God (p 476), to me this shows a
deeper understanding of life. We all can find someone or something to blame for problems or
injustices in life, but until we learn to put the blame where it lies we are doomed to feelings of
pain and loss. Samuel Johnson, excerpt from Prayers and Meditations, pages 25 27 Shadow and
Light This selection is a bittersweet plea from Johnson to God. His wife, 20 years his senior, has
passed and he is obviously stricken with grief. Johnson states, Oh Lord, release me from my
sorrow, fill me with just jopes, true faith, and holy consolations, and enable me to do my duty in
that state of life to which Thou hast been pleased to call me, without disturbance from fruitless
grief, or tumultuous imaginations; . This speaks to his sorrow over the loss of his wife and his
determination to continue on as is God s plan for him. Johnson clearly was very much in love with
his wife and even later states that he wishes to

Organ And Tissue Regeneration And Organ Systems
In the human body, the integration of cells into tissues, organs and organ systems is the
propelling force behind maintaining homeostasis. Due to the intricate relationship of organ
systems with each other, a dysfunction in one organ might have a domino effect on other tissues
and organs within the body and since the human body is far from perfect, mutations, drugs, or

deterioration of organs at a macroscopic level. In the past, organ failure was fatal and very little
could be done to reverse the process. However, thanks to the integration of various disciplines with
present day technology, organs and tissues can be regenerated through a multitude of distinct
procedures involving a team of individuals across various professions. Without the incorporation
of the works of doctors, mathematicians, physicists, material scientists, biochemists, and
molecular biologists, these life saving procedures may have not been possible. Organ and tissue
regeneration is prevalent in many aspects of nature, such as in the regeneration of starfish arms or
planarians. In fact, according to Mayo Clinic, the human liver is also known to regenerate itself in
response to mild damage. However, the damage to organs and tissues can be irreversible, such as
extensive liver cirrhosis caused by hepatitis or excessive alcohol consumption or a severe
myocardial infarction that can lead to the death of heart tissue.

The Invention Of The Airplane
Airplanes are sometimes considered one of the most overlooked inventions. This is often
because people overlook the power of airplanes. It is amazing to think how two brothers created
something used by thousands of people a day. Airplanes are usually the quickest method of
transportation for people traveling long distances. They can also be used to travel across large
bodies of water, whereas, ships would take a much longer time. The invention of the airplane
was not easy. Airplanes were also not safe, originally. Over time, though, airplane travel has
become one of the most safest methods for travel. One of the most greatest twentieth century
inventions was none other than the airplane. After its invention, the growth of people using
airplanes and the quality of airplanes grew rapidly. This was due to the innovations during the
two world wars. Airplanes not only help travelers, but they also have created an industry. Some
examples of airplane industries include aircraft construction companies, engine makers, general
equipment makers, and many others ( The Invention of the Airplane and the Rise of the
Airplane Industry for Military and Civilian Purposes ). Men have dreamed of flying for
centuries before the first airplane was even created. Leonardo da Vinci has drawn pictures of
airplane like vehicles even during the late 1400s. During the late 1700s, the first hot air balloon
soared over Paris. This was the first example of some sort of vehicle that flew. During the

2.1.3Options
There are two kinds of options in the market, European options and American options. The most
common traded one is American options which can be exercised before maturity in the market.
Call options provide the holders the right to buy the underlying assets at an exercise price while
put options is the right to sell (Rad et al., 2015).
Hedgers needs to pay a direct premium when the options open in order to compensate for the
speculators. In this case, hedgers have a right to choose whether they would like to exercise the
options at maturity. As to the speculators, they are the writers of the optionand they have no right
but obligation to exercise the option. They receive the premium and take the risk of the probability

2.1.4Swaps
Swap is an agreement that investors exchange cash flows at a specific time in the future. Generally,
both parties believe their exchanges are the same amount of cash flows. The most common swaps
are interest rate swap and currency swap. The transaction needs a dealer to realise and dealers get
the profits from transaction cost and the bid ask spread of the cash flows.
Take interest rate swap as an example, the hedgers may wish to have a certain fixed interest
payment for their loans. By contrast, the speculators are more willing to take a floating interest
payment either they have the same amount of loan or not. The dealer combine these two
counterparties together and create the swap for the exchange of fixed interest rate and floating
interest rate (Simons Horward, 2003). To the interest payment data, the hedger pays the fixed
interests to the speculator and received the floating interests according to the dealer. Then they pay
the floating interests to the cash market. In this case, they only pay the fixed interest rate as agreed
before and eliminate the risk of interest rate uncertainty. For the speculators, they pay the floating
interests and receive the fixed interests. If the floating interest rate is greater than the fixed one,
then they suffer a loss, otherwise they get the profits.
Generally, individuals and non banking institutions are able to be the dealer which may cause

Persuasive Essay On Bilingual Education
In 1967, a senator in Texas named Ralph Yarborough introduced the Bilingual Education Act.
Through this act, the federal government was to provide funds to schools to have bilingual
educational programs. The act primarily focused on Spanish speaking children, but later was
amended to benefit other children as well (Glavin). Several states in the United States opposed
bilingual educationand in 2002, Initiative 31 was on the Colorado ballot. Initiative or Amendment
31, required schools to be taught only in English (figure 1). Parents were given the option to
request bilingual education, but it would be extremely difficult for it to be accepted, due to schools
having the right to deny their request. Instead, non English speakers would be placed in an English
immersion program. In this program, students would be given a year to learn English and later
move to a normal classroom ( Amendment 31 ). On November 5, 2002, the initiative was rejected
by 55 percent (Benz 1). Considering the rejection of the initiative, Colorado began adapting
programs to assist English language learners (ELLs). Nonetheless, dual language education remains
highly controversial. While bilingual education has many positive outcomes, we cannot ignore the
fact that it is not 100 percent effective. Not every child learns the same; therefore, bilingual
education does not provide equal opportunities for everyone. Instead of completely throwing
bilingual education out the window, we should turn to alternatives

The Differences Between United States and Puerto Rico
Are there differences between living in Puerto Rico and living in the United States? I believe that
there are big differences. I came to the United States when I was fifteen years old. Although, I am
currently living in the United States, I always go back to Puerto Rico to visit my family. I love it
there. I like living in the United Statesbut there are many things that differ from Puerto Ricosuch as
food, education and weather.
Puerto Rico has variety of Spanish food that make you go there. Puerto Rico s food is one of the
best reasons to visit the island. It is diverse, rich, and flavorful with a combination of rice, beans,

High Schools are not preparing students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel after

Temperatures in Puerto Rico are moderate year round, averaging near 80 and 70 В°F. Puerto
Rico has a rainy season which stretches from April into November. The mountains of the
Cordillera Central are the main cause of the variations in the temperature and rainfall that occur
over very short distances. That is one of the reasons why sometimes it rains a lot. The weather is
not a problem in Puerto Rico because even when raining people is go outside to get wet. By that I

Optical Filters Used For Edge Detection
In image processing, a Gabor filter, named after Dennis Gabor, is a linear filter used for edge
detection. Frequency and orientation representations of Gabor filters are similar to those of the
human visual system, and they have been found to be particularly appropriate for texture
representation and discrimination. In the spatial domain, a 2D Gabor filter is a Gaussian kernel
function modulated by a sinusoidal plane wave. Simple cells in the visual cortex of mammalian
brains can be modeled by Gabor functions.[1][2] Thus, image analysis with Gabor filters is
thought to be similar to perception in the human visual system. A set of Gabor filters with
different frequencies and orientations may be helpful for extracting useful features from an
image.[7] In the discrete domain, two dimensional Gabor filters are given by, G_c[i,j]=B e^{
frac{(i^2+j^2)}{2sigma^2}}cos(2pif(icosheta+jsinheta)) G_s[i,j]=C e^{
frac{(i^2+j^2)}{2sigma^2}}sin(2pif(icosheta+jsinheta)) where B and C are normalizing factors to
be determined. 2 D Gabor filters have rich applications in image processing, especially in feature
extraction for texture analysis and segmentation.[8] f defines the frequency being looked for in
the texture. By varying heta, we can look for texture oriented in a particular direction. By varying
sigma, we change the support of the basis or the size of the image region being analyzed. Gabor

The Importance Of Misogyny In American Culture
I think internalized misogyny in American culture is detrimental to all genders, but especially
women. The objectification of women in media, culture, and daily life has proven harmful to the
opportunities and livelihoods of women. Once women are no longer viewed, as whole and valid
human beings, the subsequent rampant abuse and mistreatment imposed on them is rationalized
and accepted by society. I consider myself pro women, aligning myself with pro choice and anti
abuse movements, due to my partialities on the subject.
The most obvious source of towards my bias is the fact I m a woman, so the consequences of
sexism affect me directly. I suppose the intrinsic value of self preservation causes me to advocate
against it, since I would rather avoid experiencing the repercussions associated with misogyny than
face them firsthand. Combating society s oppressive attitudes increases my relative quality of life,
so one could consider my support for women s rights as a selfish endeavor. Branched off my own
personal attempt at self sustainability, is my willingness to empathize with other women. I hold the
tendency to deeply value women s rights because I recognize the struggles inflicted by the
patriarchal culture and society common to all women. I appreciate the quality of empathy because
it s important in all human relationships. I despise systematic sexism, because of its direct influence
on me, and simultaneously realize that I am a small entity among a small subsection of the

Utilitarianism, Virtue And Care Ethics
The three ethical theories I will discuss from Chapter 1 include: utilitarianism, virtue and care
ethics. First, the utilitarianism is moral standard and a theory of action by humans that are
morally right in action. Utilitarianism is an action that is morally right if its consequences are
more favorable. One way for businesses , as our reading suggests (Fieser Moseley, 2012), is make
a list of all the good and bad for any particular act. If the good outweighs the bad then that action
should occur. If the bad outweighs the good, then the action should stop. Utilitarianism theory
attempts to keep things on the positive, happier side of the spectrum. A company using this theory
is probably functioning well due to their morale analysis of actions related to safe products, good
quality products and customer care, a fair price, and fair and equal treatment to their employees. In
addition, because utilitarianism is a morale standard, a company would be environmentally
conscious and find ways to help the community and the world. A company would work at making
their products in an environmentally safe way, recycle surplus and make their products within the
United States to support the economy. A company would also look at balancing goods over harm
produced to the environment or people. Lastly, if a company were to be very successful, they
should donate some of their proceeds back into the community (environmentally or local
community support) or employees (bonuses,

Health Care At The United States Essay
Imagine being the single parent of two children avoiding going to the doctor, despite your
constant cough and horrendous headache, due of the fear of going into life ruining debt. This is a
problem numerous people in the United States face as spending on health care increased to $3.2
trillion in 2015 which is about $9,980 per individual, (Vital Signs: Rise in National Health
Expenditures Slows) which is considerably high in comparison to the United Kingdom s $148.34
billion or $2,292 per person (Department of Health s Settlement at the Spending Review 2015). The
United Statesspends comparably more than most other first world countries when it comes to
health care and this is a problem for its citizens who have come into an issue of being unable to
afford the care they need to live. Countless Americans are aware of the fact that the cost of health
is high, but not as many are informed as to why it costs so much or how to make it more
affordable. Instead, they look at health care as an incurable illness and choose to offer up the
explanation that the better quality of American hospitals and services or the sizable population of
people to care for are to blame for the high cost, neither of which we have the power to change.
However, the reasons for health care costs being astronomical in the United States are the improper
use of medical services, extra administrative costs, and the high costs of the services and equipment
themselves, which are causes that can be remedied.

perspectives of love base on her culture and time through the use of figurative language and
symbolism to depict of courtly love.
Additionally, Ibn Zaydun, an Arabian lyric poet also uses figurative language in his literature to
depict his sentiments towards spiritual love. Ibn Zaydun highlights the surrounding nature in

emotional love by comparing the surrounding beauty of nature to his pure love . He addresses the
abandonment from his lover by ending his description of nature towards the end. This provides the
conclusion of his lover s affection towards him. Ibn Zaydun and Marie de France both use
figurative language in order to convey their sentiments of emotional and spiritual love.

their perspective on secular love. William IX, a French medieval lyricist,

The second lesson that can be learned from Berniece goes beyond the importance of family it is
the importance of ancestral history. The reason Berniece is so attached to the piano is the
family history tied to it. When her grandparents were freed from slavery her grandfather died
over stealing it. Then even past that her mother was obsessed with playing the piano and
cleaned it everyday. She taught Berniece how to play piano on it and her mother used to say it
filled her with great joy to hear Berniece play. But, after her mother died Berniece never played
the piano again. In this scene Boy Willie yet again is trying to sell the piano. Berniece begins to
defend saying, Look at this piano. Mama Ola polished this piano with her tears for seventeen
years. For seventeen she rubbed on it till her hands bled. Then she rubbed the blood in. This is
part of the reason Berniece is so attached to the piano which is the reason she will never allow
Boy Willie to have the piano. Berniece s love for her ancestral history is what causes her to be so
attached to piano and why she will always defend it. She at one point pulls a gun out on Boy
Willie and says he won t take the piano over her dead body. In this scene which is basically the
ending of the story as everything around her is caving in. Berniece has an epiphany to play the
piano to cleanse all the surroundings of all trouble. The story goes, It is in this moment, from
somewhere old, that Berniece realizes what she must do. She crosses to the piano. She begins to

Now there is more than one way that the water could be purified, but this is the simplest way to
do it with the least amount of materials. Now another thing that the skillet could be used for
would be as a weapon, to possibly immobilize a pig or other creature. The skillet could be taken
in one hand, and then the motion of beating the pig over the head could be used repeatedly, until
the pig was either dead or unconscious. Then if the pig was not dead the beating motion could
be continued with this or other weapons until it is sure that he is dead. A good sign to make
sure he s dead is when there is no heart beat, as well as severe infractions or fissures in his head.
Then all that would be left would be to cut the pigs head off and roast it over the fire like the
beast it is. The skillet could also be used in assistance of building a shelter. The skillet could be
used as a weight. The rope could be tied to the handle securely, then the skillet could be thrust
upward over a tree branch in order to secure the shelter to a tree, which would make it much more
secure in the event of adverse weather conditions. Also if necessary, the entire shelter could be

12.Police records are necessary for the correct distribution of police strength.
All of these principles still play a huge role in modern police. Police departments in America try to

together to solves issues in the community. Sir Robert Peel tried hard to include all issues of the
time in his principles, but he never could have predicted the modern day issues of gangs, cartels

The Death Comes By Charles Wyville Thomson, Commander Of...
Death comes easily. Death comes with diseases spread by people living in close quarters. Death
comes with a lack of nutrients from insufficient food. Death comes with a misstep that leads to a
plunge into rough, frigid ocean waters. These statements are especially true on board a ship at sea
during the time prior to the 20th century. When people know that death is very likely in a certain
situation but still agree to participate in the situation anyway, they posses a characteristic known as
courage. Two examples of courageous men are Zheng Heand Charles Wyville Thomson,
commanders of very different ocean voyages, and both of these men led their respective crew
members towards death with the hopes of conquering or exploring new lands. Zheng He, a
worker for the emperor of the Ming Dynasty of China, commanded a giant fleet including 27,000
Chinese soldiers and sailed as far as the Arabian peninsula and the eastern coast of Africa in seven
different voyages, starting in 1405 (Dreyer 1). Charles Wyville Thomson, a scientist from Britain,
commanded a voyage aboard the HMS Challenger with less than 250 crew members (Bishop). In
his voyage, departing in December of 1872 and returning in May of 1876, Thomson traveled to
Antarctica, the Caribbean, South Africa, Hawaii, and South America (Dreyer xiii). Zheng He s and

Analysis Of George Orwell s The Road
In The Road to Wigan Pier (1937), Orwell tries out his own understanding of socialism, with
striking phrasing: We ve got to fight for justice and liberty. And socialism does mean justice and
liberty, when the nonsense is stripped off it. He further declares that the real socialist is one who
wishes not merely conceives it as desirable but actively wishes to see tyranny overthrown (Orwell,
The Road 76). One senses here that the point is not the ultimate triumph of a particular doctrine or
party, but the triumph of human dignity. This triumph can be achieved by war and revolution.
Orwell wrote to Cyril Connolly, telling him: I have seen wonderful things and at last really believe
in Socialism, which I never did before (Orwell, Collected Essays 269). Although it was clear that
he was at least intellectually committed to socialism, it was Spain that gave his socialism an
emotional Bedrock and dictated the course his socialism would take. In his preface to the Ukrainian

Nothing has contributed so much to the corruption of the original idea of Socialism as the belief

And so for the past ten years I have been convinced that the destruction of the Soviet myth was
essential if we wanted a revival of the Socialist movement (Orwell, Preface 339).

Nike Debate
Case: Nike: The Sweatshop Debate 1. Should Nike be held responsible for working conditions in
foreign factories that it does not own, but where subcontractors make products for Nike? Yes,
Nike is not only responsible but also accountable for the working conditions of foreign countries
that it does not own. Nike should realize that it is a Global Organization and working globally
does not only mean that taking advantage of low cost destination but also taking responsibility of
the contractors/employees working in other countries. For example: Pepsi was recently in the news
for allegations of having pesticides in the cold drink in India. Pepsi ensured that it has same
standard of water purification across the world and not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If so what? Should Nike make changes even if they hinder the ability of the company to
compete? Nike needs to ensure that all the contractors comply with the wages and local working
conditions in respective countries. Nike can do this either by appointing a labor inspector in
each of the factories for all the contractors and asking them to report the details of all the workers
working in their respective factories and this report need to be reviewed by legal experts at the
country level and worldwide level to ensure that all the laws are in compliance by contractors of
Nike. Any non compliance should be considered seriously and serious actions should be taken
against all such contractors, which might result in termination of contracts with such factories. In
fact, Nike should go ahead and open schools for children of workers working in their factories
across different countries to take care of the developments of its workers across the globe. Nike
should make such changes even if this means termination of contracts with non compliance
factories or more expenses for development of workers in factories. This is because all
organizations in today s world affect the society and hence they need to be sensitive towards the
conditions of the employees and the society. Thus, Nike should engage in Cause Related Marketing
(CRM) by ensuring that working conditions are made better in all the factories and also ensuring

The Golden Age Of Chamber Music
Franz Joseph Haydn Down the history of music, the classical era was known as the golden age
of chamber music. This chamber style of music was largely established by Haydn, Mozart,
Beethoven and Schubert. Joseph Haydn was one of the most prolific composers amongst the
first Viennese schools (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven), in the classical era. Joseph Haydn was born
in Rohrau, a little Austrian village not far from Hainburg in the year 1732 on March 31st. His
parents were of a poor background but loved music and hard work, maybe it is to say Haydn got
his working ethics from the teachings of his parents. Haydn had always been exposed to... Show

At the cathedral, he was taught to sing and play the violin and the piano. He was also taught
other school studies like Religion, Latin, Writing and Arithmetic. Unfortunately, he was
dismissed from the choir with reason being that his voice sounded terrible along with the
coming years. Nevertheless, He was still hardworking and industrious and sought to seek help
from people like Metastasio, (a poet) and Nicholas Porpora, (his singing master) who taught him
how to compose music. Haydn was becoming famous and later got to meet Gluck, (the opera
composer), Wolfgang Mozart and his father Leopold Mozart. Later on, Haydn attracted the
attention of the music loving aristocracy of Vienna. At the age of 29, he was invited to become
the music director (or vice capellmeister as it was called) to the family known as the Esterhazys
of a great man, Prince Paul Nicolaus Esterhazy. They were a wealthy Hungarian family known for
their patronage of the arts. This was otherwise known as the patronage system which was famous
during the classical period whereby kings, popes and the wealthy provided support and privileges
to musicians or artists; in return, they create more music or art for their sponsors (patrons). Haydn

According to The Lash Loft website Semi Permanent Eyelash Extensions are applied by isolating
each individual lash and applying an extension on to the natural lash. The extension will lengthen
your lashes as well as adding volume and curl. This makes them perfect for everyday wear. Because
they are only attached to 1 individual natural lash at any time, they are completely weightless and
extremely comfortable to wear and will NOT cause any damage to your natural lashes. You can find
this information at http://www.lashloft.co.uk/treatment info.html for a guide on what happens

the only heros were intelligent ,and rather scary, warriors from across the land. These noble

political power, rivaling even the Mikado (emperor). They dominated both the society and
government of Japan, and created a code of honor, Bushido. The samurai, who believed in peace

Challenges Facing Sports Facilities Managers
Challenges Facing Sports Facility Managers Planning and managing a sport venue during any
event can be challenging even to the most seasoned facility managers. There are many factors
that a facility manager must consider in order to ensure the event is a success. Success of an
event can be measured in many ways across a wide array of topics; two of which are crowd
managementand alcohol management. Having a solid plan and operational controls in place for
both can lead to a fun and safe environment for all parties involved with any event.
Crowd Management Ammon and Southhall (2004) define crowd management as an organization
tool used to assist facility managers in providing a safe and enjoyable environment for their guests
by implementing facility/event policies and procedures (p. 145). Part of the process for ensuring a
safe event is to identify any foreseeable duties and to develop a plan.
Duties
One of the main responsibilities of a facility manager to control a crowd is to account for every
spectator that has entered into the facility. Facility managers should be able to anticipate and
recognize and potential crowd management problems. Movement throughout the facility is a
major safety concern and is just as important as the ingress and egress of patrons (Ammon et al,
2004, p. 145). It is the facility manager s role to ensure vendors are not blocking emergency
evacuation routes as well as ensuring spectators are not loitering in aisles or thoroughfares. Prior

observations took place at 30th Street Station, Philadelphia. One might ask what is this kiosk

The people would walk to the kiosk, pull out their credit card and insert it, then select the
appropriate dates and destinations, and the ticket will be printed. However, people took
different amount of time to perform those tasks. Teenagers took longer because they were joking
around. Whereas, people in hurry were very quick in performing those tasks. As I was observing
how they were performing the tasks, I noticed a person s card would not get accepted by the
system. I saw him use different cards but the system s card reader might have been broken. He
also seemed frustrated because it was almost time for departure so at last minute to have this
types of problem is frustrating. The primary system was being used to perform those tasks was
Quik Trak Self Service Ticketing Kiosk. However, I saw some people pulled out their phones to
scan their barcode. Some people were constantly looking at their watches and phones as they were
using the kiosk ticketing system. Some people were talking and texting on their phones while they
used the system. So the system allows user to operate other technologies while they use the system.
I observed other people use phone technology to print out their tickets. Amtrak allows user to make
reservation online and all users have to do is go to the ticketing system and scan the confirmation
barcode on a phone and it prints out the physical paper ticket. It saves time from having to enter

The Pros And Cons Of Biological Warfare
Throughout the course of history, several methods of warfare have been practiced. One of the
standard procedures for war is to use weapons such as pistols, shotguns, grenades, and automatic
infantry. The other method is known as biological warfare, which is the use of diseases and other
biological agents to harm enemies or citizens of an opposing country. Considering that the world
flourishes in science today, scientists are researching for more efficient ways to handle war, which
is were biological warfare comes in. After this method was discovered, many armies looked to it as
the savior of war. Unfortunately, people are not aware of the many consequences that biological
warfare holds.
Biological weaponry offers a couple of positives. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Biological warfare presents many problems compared to the positives. First off, biological
weapons can potentially live in infected areas for long periods of time. For example, one of the
more common diseases used in biological warfare is Anthrax. Anthrax has the capability to
transform into spores which protects the bacteria for decades (Hoyle). This offers the chance of
spreading the biological agent in the future to other people who were unintended targets. Another
example is the incapacitating agent known as the bomblet. When used, the bomblet leaves a
remainder of five percent of the agent behind (Eitzen). If the leftover agent is identified, the
opponent can research and produce a medical treatment, rendering the agent useless. Another major
disadvantage relates to the U.S. The knowledge of the general population is that the U.S. holds no
biological weapons (Eitzen). If this is true, another country could easily attack us with biological
agents and the U.S. army would not know how to approach such a devastating hit. Although
biological warfare is cost effective, this means enemies can get ahold of the agents easier and
research more. I believe that if a group of terrorists were to spend a decent amount of time studying
the agent and manipulating it, the agent could become super

Ionian Revolt
Threat affects the dependent variable of state behavior. Walt states that powers will either balance
or bandwagon against another state. If a weak state is on good terms with a powerful state, the
weak state will be unlikely to balance against the stronger state. Furthermore, the weaker state is
likely to benefit from the alliance because of added security. However, if the weaker stateperceives
the stronger state as a threat, then the weaker state will balance against the strong state in order to
protect itself. Additionally, if the state is not a good terms with the rival state, it is unable to
bandwagon and will therefore engage in balancing. Balancing can be broken up into internal and
external parts. A state can either build up their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since balance of threat assumes every state is a black box, it does not look at internal causes of
conflict. Within Ionia, they had a history of tension with the Persians. Since Persia had enacted
tyrants over the Greek city states, they already disliked them and were ready to rebel. This
reason may have been a cause of the Ionian Revolt, which Walt did not account for.
Notwithstanding this criticism, the balance of threat theory provides the best explanation for the
revolt. It is able to explain the initial attempt at bandwagoning and the final decision to balance.
The theory is able to account for aggregate power, geographical proximity, offensive capabilities,
and offensive intent. This allows more than just two factors to influence how a state will react.
Another strength of Walt s theory is focusing on the threat rather than the power. Even if a state
has great power, a rival state may not react to it if it does not possess a threat. Vice versa, a state
with small power, but a great threat, may cause the rival state to react by balancing or
bandwagoning. Together, the theory of balance of threat is able to provide a better explanation for

SWOT And Positioning Strategy Of Jaguar Cars Company
(Jaguar Cars Corporate)
SWOT and Positioning Strategy
Jaguar Cars company is related to one of the most luxurious automobile manufactures and is on a
high level in contingent upon popularity, which is one of many strengths of the company. They
create a good brand image for themselves and this is the reason why they are well known in a
range of many different countries. Secondly, their workforce is very skilled because they main
purpose is an excellent quality, which they want to construct with every single product. Thirdly,
they put many efforts in research and development to get ready for the future events as well as to
provide every possible latest technology before the competitors.
Nonetheless, each company has their own specific weaknesses. Jaguar Cars corporate has certainly
good products available for customers, but in comparison with other companies, they still have a
lack of range of numbers. They have to increase numbers of their products because otherwise, their
competitors will still dominate the market. Furthermore, there are only a few models created by
the company and some of them were even criticised. That means that they lose the potential clients
because of a narrow range of designed models. In addition Jaguar has issues in the past. Despite the
high quality, there have been few problems with the auto manufacturer, seatbelt problem of the rear
seats and once there was an issue with the corrosion protection. As it is a popular and trusted brand

Tweeter is attempting to address the price sensitivity of their customers by this strategy. So far
APP has been successful as a retention and acquisition strategy. From 1992 to 1996 Tweeter s
core customer market share has grown from 19.6% to 25.2% (Appendix 8 Tweeter). By contrast
with the exception of Circuit city (Appendix 10 Circuit city) over the same period the market
share for this class of customer has increased by a smaller percentage (Appendix 9 Lechmere) or
actually declined (Appendix 11 Other retailers). Since Tweeter has retained its customers and
acquired more customers over the years I would say the strategy is applicable and successful for
both functions. The success of the strategy would be amplified if Tweeter educates its customers
better about APP since according to the survey, exhibit 14, in the case a large percentage of
people are unaware of or have misconceptions about APP thus making it less effective.
Competition reaction In 1996 sales to this class of customer at a 30% markup represents
$11,975,040 margin for Tweeter, $16,917,120 margin for Lechmere and $13,258,080 margin for
Circuit City. This is an important source of margin for the Superstores, however represents only
10% and 15% of their overall sales respectively. So I believe that they will fight to keep their

Indians By The Golden Gate Analysis

Anton was able to atest to his principles and showcase the history of California as well as the
struggles that accomponied the devlopment of this amazing state. The murals, some noted as

and red to evoke emotions is very apparent in this mural. Rather than focusing on the mural itself,
the viewer is forced to anaylze the subject matter. In this mural the matter revolves around the death
of almost 250,000 natives due to general mistreatment, massacere, disiese, disposesssion, and other
indigitinieites. The mistreatment of natives throughout American history has always been

Of The Rain, And The Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber

Dependence on Men There can be no doubt... of our dependence upon forces beyond our control.
Primitive man was so impotent in the face of these forces that [gravitate], especially in and
unfavorable natural environment, fear became a dominant attitude, and, as the old saying goes,
fear created gods . (John Dewey) Life often works like this. One person is dependant on the
another. Ernest Hemingway wrote two very intriguing stories, Cat in the Rain, and The Short

Francis men in theseir stories to show women s dependence on men.
In Hemingway s stories women These women have affairs with other men because their
husband will not give them what they want. In The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber,
Francis realizes that Margot is cheating and she relies on another manother men, not just him
because he realized that his wife was not in the other cot in the tent. Margot cheats because she
knows her husband will not leave her even though they get to pretty though terms and Wilson
tries to convince her [t]hat was a pretty thing to do, he said in a toneless voice. He would have

her of them to make her feel guilty. Margot refuses to let her husband find out, even though he
figures it out in the middle of the story, for she relies on him for support economically , and
socially. As for the story, Cat in the Rain, the wife has a different type of affair, a metaphorical
affair, thato symbolizes her dependence on men. In this story , her desire isn not like Margot s.

  • 2. Twelfth Night Social Order Change in Social Order If there was no way of out of your current social status, would you be happy with it? Twelfth Night is one of the great comedies written by William Shakespeare. The play showcases many truths about society. Status was important in the Elizabethan Age, and people could not raise in the social ranks. The purpose of turning over the social order in Twelfth Night is to reveal that status is just a label through showing love does not abide by these boundaries, status does not display true character, and status is not obtained by those who aim for it. First of all, love does not have any boundaries because it is merely the attraction and adoration of another person, no matter their age, status, race, and beliefs. Many characters in Twelfth Night fall in love with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Malvolio is tricked into thinking the lady of the house is in love with him and does everything he can to please her. Malvolio believes he will be the Duke of the house with servants at his feet and loads of fortunes. Malvolio pleases the countess by smiling, cross gartering, and wearing yellow stockings all of which are absurd and Olivia laughs at him for his foolishness. Olivia later feels sorry for Malvolio because he was considered a madman for thinking she was in love with him and partially for that he could move up in the hierarchy. Sebastian, on the other hand, was placed in a great situation. Or I am mad, or else this is a dream. Let fancy still my sense in Lethe steep. If it be thus to dream, still let me sleep. (IV.iii.145) Olivia was fooled by Sebastian s similar appearance to Cesario and asked Sebastian to marry her. Of course he said yes because someone wealthy was offering. Sebastian was not looking to move up in the social order, but when presented with the chance he took it. • 3. The Issue Of The Environment And Globalisation The past few centuries have seen such a drastic change in the world in terms of human activities that it has resulted in an enormously significant change in our planet. For a better understanding, the process which brings all people and communities across the globe come together to experience a progressively universal economic, social and cultural environment is called globalisation. Thus, by definition, the process of globalisation affects everybody throughout the world and also has a significant impact on the environment. As said by James Arvanitakis (Arvanitakis p.166), the issue of the environment and globalisation is the most pressing issue facing the world today . Globalisation is thought to be a major cause behind change of climatethat is experienced currently in the world. However, there are those who support and agree with the notion that climate change actually poses a global risk and those who do not agree with it. The debate on the extent of climate change being a global risk, which is called climate change science, is one that is of high interest for various groups in Australia who either agree with the view or disagree with it for their own reasons and each one has their own arguments regarding the subject. Global climate change is part of the larger Anthropocene syndrome of human induced global environmental changes. These include land degradation, ocean acidification, and disruptions and depletions of the stratospheric ozone concentration, soil fertility, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Impact Of Pcaob s New Audit Standard On Regulators,... On December 15, 2015, the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) posted new final regulations that require auditors of public companies to disclose the identity of the engagement partner on each audit, as well as information on other accounting firms that participated in each audit (PCAOB 2015). Although the new AuditStandards seem to be perfectly reasonable and relatively low in cost, they obviously will impose a certain workload on accounting firms, which will translate into certain additional costs. So who pays for this? Not the PCAOB, of course, but the accounting firms, who will no doubt pass these costs on to their clients. In this paper, I will analyze the impact of PCAOB s new audit standard on regulators, financial... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Taiwan, every audit report requires the disclosure of both the audit firm and the audit engagement partner s name (Huang, 2009). The fact that many large economy countries like Taiwan follows the standard shows that this rule is effective in enhance audit quality as well as the public trust in audit at a certain degree. An audit partner plays a very important role in the quality of the audit. They primarily responsible for the final audit quality even though audit quality is the result of the whole audit team. Therefore, having audit engagement partner s name disclosed will hold an audit partner more responsible for the audit report. The partners will have to make sure their audit team really perform effective audit work, which results in a higher audit quality. Moreover, financial report users will feel more comfortable to reliance on the audit report when they know in confidence the person who holds accountability for the audit report is. The ultimate purpose of the PCAOB is to improve the quality of financial reporting and its benefits to users. For the same reason, making the U.S auditing standards compatible with its global counterparts would improve audit quality and usefulness, especially since many U.S companies practice internationally. In addition, having the information about engagement partner s names and about other accounting companies who are working on the engagement would help regulators and investors in locating ... • 5. Ivanhoe Analysis Even Without Capes Ivanhoe was written by Sir Walter Scott in 1819. Set in England, between the towns of Sheffield and Doncaster, Ivanhoe occurred during the end of the Third Crusade. At this time, England was under the temporary rule of Prince John. Prince John sided with Philip of France to ensure that his brother, King Richard, was kept in captivity by the Duke of Austria. He feared Richard and was horrified by the prospect of his brother s return, as he wanted England under his own rule. In Ivanhoe, King Richard eventually escaped from his imprisonment and returned to England. He waited for the reinforcement of his allies to reclaim his throne. Even though he was a Norman, Richard helped the rival Saxons. He wanted to end the dissension between these groups as the Saxons felt oppressed by their Norman conquerors. He also obtained help from the Saxons to defeat untrustworthy Norman leaders. Known as Coeur de Lion, Richard was actually extremely similar to Beowulf. Beowulf was a powerful warrior, who travelled to aid the Danish King, Hrothgar, in the defeat of Grendel. Grendel was a monster, who had overtaken Hrothgar s great mess hall. For twelve years, Grendel ravaged Heorot. Beowulf decided to save the Danes from this man devourer. King Richard and Beowulf were both heroes. A superhero is defined as an exceptionally skillful or successful person. Both King Richard and Beowulf were courageous while facing their rivals, loyal to others, and skilled warriors. One ... • 6. The Development Of Qin Shi Huang In China Power. It is a concept that has always been part of human societies regardless of time period or area. Though expressed in different ways and structures, it was and still is part of human civilizations today. However, within the establishments of power, many conflicts arise for both those in power and those governed by the rulers, such as problems over the selection of new authority figures and the retainment of their power. This conflict can be recognized from the ruling of Qin Shi Huangin China in the mid 200s BC. He is well known for uniting the Chinese states during the Warring States Period, in which the country was broken up into states that were in a war for dominance (Mark). Shi Huang ultimately founded the Qin Dynasty and worked to improve humanity by helping construct the Great Wall for defense and the Lingqu Canal for commerce (Mark). However, he later began to threaten those who refused to comply with his ideas, and he became more concerned with becoming immortal and keeping his power (Szczepanski). Due to his obsessive desire over the idea of immortality and maintaining his imperial status in the afterlife, Qin Shi Huang decided to recreate the entire Chinese empire underground as his tomb (Szczepanski). About 700,000 laborers were hired to build this mausoleum over a course of 36 years; more than 8,000 unique, life size terracotta soldiers as well as horses, chariots, jewelry, and ritual ships were created ( Qin Tomb ). Cheyney Statae University (originally called The Institute for Colored Youth) was founded in Pennsylvania in 1837. This university was founded as a normal school by Pennsylvania Quakers. The first two post secondary institutions specifically for Blacks were founded in 1854 and 1856. The passage of this act was a significant force in increasing the number of HBCUs. This act required admissions criteria for already established universities to rid race as a factor or to provide a separate land grant institution for Blacks. As stated by Albritton, the Second Morrill Act contained a clause that stated No money shall be paid out under this act to any State or Territory for the support and maintenance of a college where a distinction of race or color is made in the admission of students, but the establishment and maintenance of such colleges separately for white and colored students should be held to be a compliance with the provisions of this act if the funds received in such State or Territory be ... Tess Of The D Urbervilles By Thomas Hardy The novel, Tess of the d Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy depicts the heroine, Tess and the tragedies that are seemingly continuously finding their way to her. Tess s tragedy is caused by the societal environment that she is in that finds value in gender divisions and economic growth as well as religious beliefs. The internal strife that Tess faces along with those in Tess s life are the cause of her downfall. Hardy shows that Tess is fated to fail throughout the novel by creating characters that impede on her success who represent the values of era. • 9. Car Vs Driving A Car What do you think was easier to learn, to ride a bike or to drive a car? I feel both are pretty easy to drive once you overcome the fears you have and fix the things that you struggle with. There s a lot that goes into both a bike and a car, but some things more than others. A bike and a car are both great ways to get around, but balance, road sense, safety and responsibility differ between the two. To start off, a bike requires more balance. Bikes have two wheels so it s much harder to stay up. When you first learn to ride a bike without training wheels, you have to learn how to stay up on it first. Once you start to gain balance and are able to stay up, then you able to ride your bike. Another thing is that it s easier to get hurt. A bike doesn t have outside protection so if you fall or have an encounter with a car, you would get majorly hurt. Unlike a bike, a car had four tires rather than two. So it s easier for a car to stay up since there s tires evenly supporting it. It s one less thing to worry about when riding a bike than it is to drive a car because there s not the first step in trying to learn how to balance when driving a car. Another thing that is different is road sense. When riding a bike, people usually stay off to the side of the road while also being cautious of the cars around you. Some places have a small section labeled for bikes to be ritten and others do not, so some cyclists ride more into the street with cars. Bikes don t have blinkers and signals ... • 12. Our Spiritual Growth How do I know that I am growing up spiritually? First of all, if we want to know whether we are growing up spiritually or not, we must know what the meaning of growing spiritually is. Spirituality is our human capacity for God which allows us to recognise God or the movement of God in our lives and, in the light of this recognition and experience of God, our lived response to God (quoted from SF from the heart pdf). We can define growing up spiritually as the processes when our human capacity to recognize, experience, and response to God is increasing and we much more love and value God as our partner of marriage. The need for a greater variety of healthy and resistant crop is consistently rising as populations continue to increase around the world. Yet, agricultural food scientists have manipulated the DNAstructure of countless foods. One main concern for consumers is the use of GMOs, genetically engineered crops. However, GMOs are very hard to find when manufacturers claim to not have them in their products and also not completely healthy. To provide information to customers, labeling requirements have been set up in many countries to aid international trade. In this experiment we will test different foods to find traces of GMO including one that claims to not contain GMOs. We hypothesize that the lettuce sample would not contain any GMO genes. Material and Methods: DNA extraction of samples for PCR. Three samples were prepared: Soy bean with GMO, Soy bean without GMO, Lettuce, and ChexВ® cereal. The food samples were crushed into a powder and separated. Next, 100 Вµl of Edwards buffer was added to samples. For another minute, the food was then grounded. It is probably just because Adam Levine is a swoon worthy man. There are many ways in which the bands are similar, but are there really that many in the ways they are different? Well, when it comes to how you can differentiate the two, the only way to do it is to go through the statistics. Both Maroon V and OneRepublic s songs sound somewhat similar, but what makes them different is where they got their inspiration from. In an interview with Adam Levine, he stated that his band s inspiration came from a number of singers and bands, including Michael Jackson, Tupac, Justin Timberlake, Marvin Gaye, and Billy Joel. OneRepublic s Ryan Tedderstated that when the group gets together, they like to get a little bit of inspiration from some singers, but they like to make their music by whatever comes to them. Lewis puts it beautifully that we all grieve in different manners, but that our pain is the same. I feel that he makes a call for people to be more understanding of others. That just because someone does not show the same emotion as you, does not mean they do not feel. It means they feel in a different manner. Lewis also says, we do not shout and shake our fists at God (p 476), to me this shows a deeper understanding of life. We all can find someone or something to blame for problems or injustices in life, but until we learn to put the blame where it lies we are doomed to feelings of pain and loss. • 22. Organ And Tissue Regeneration And Organ Systems In the human body, the integration of cells into tissues, organs and organ systems is the propelling force behind maintaining homeostasis. Due to the intricate relationship of organ systems with each other, a dysfunction in one organ might have a domino effect on other tissues and organs within the body and since the human body is far from perfect, mutations, drugs, or pathogens may lead to cellular damage at a microscopic level, which could then lead to the deterioration of organs at a macroscopic level. In the past, organ failure was fatal and very little could be done to reverse the process. However, thanks to the integration of various disciplines with present day technology, organs and tissues can be regenerated through a multitude of distinct procedures involving a team of individuals across various professions. Without the incorporation of the works of doctors, mathematicians, physicists, material scientists, biochemists, and molecular biologists, these life saving procedures may have not been possible. Organ and tissue regeneration is prevalent in many aspects of nature, such as in the regeneration of starfish arms or planarians. In fact, according to Mayo Clinic, the human liver is also known to regenerate itself in response to mild damage. However, the damage to organs and tissues can be irreversible, such as extensive liver cirrhosis caused by hepatitis or excessive alcohol consumption or a severe myocardial infarction that can lead to the death of heart tissue. ... It is amazing to think how two brothers created something used by thousands of people a day. Airplanes are usually the quickest method of transportation for people traveling long distances. They can also be used to travel across large bodies of water, whereas, ships would take a much longer time. The invention of the airplane was not easy. Airplanes were also not safe, originally. Over time, though, airplane travel has become one of the most safest methods for travel. One of the most greatest twentieth century inventions was none other than the airplane. After its invention, the growth of people using airplanes and the quality of airplanes grew rapidly. This was due to the innovations during the two world wars. Airplanes not only help travelers, but they also have created an industry. Some examples of airplane industries include aircraft construction companies, engine makers, general equipment makers, and many others ( The Invention of the Airplane and the Rise of the Airplane Industry for Military and Civilian Purposes ). Men have dreamed of flying for centuries before the first airplane was even created. Leonardo da Vinci has drawn pictures of airplane like vehicles even during the late 1400s. Generally, both parties believe their exchanges are the same amount of cash flows. The most common swaps are interest rate swap and currency swap. The transaction needs a dealer to realise and dealers get the profits from transaction cost and the bid ask spread of the cash flows. Take interest rate swap as an example, the hedgers may wish to have a certain fixed interest payment for their loans. By contrast, the speculators are more willing to take a floating interest payment either they have the same amount of loan or not. The dealer combine these two counterparties together and create the swap for the exchange of fixed interest rate and floating interest rate (Simons Horward, 2003). To the interest payment data, the hedger pays the fixed interests to the speculator and received the floating interests according to the dealer. Then they pay the floating interests to the cash market. In this case, they only pay the fixed interest rate as agreed before and eliminate the risk of interest rate uncertainty. For the speculators, they pay the floating interests and receive the fixed interests. If the floating interest rate is greater than the fixed one, then they suffer a loss, otherwise they get the profits. Through this act, the federal government was to provide funds to schools to have bilingual educational programs. The act primarily focused on Spanish speaking children, but later was amended to benefit other children as well (Glavin). Several states in the United States opposed bilingual educationand in 2002, Initiative 31 was on the Colorado ballot. Initiative or Amendment 31, required schools to be taught only in English (figure 1). Parents were given the option to request bilingual education, but it would be extremely difficult for it to be accepted, due to schools having the right to deny their request. Instead, non English speakers would be placed in an English immersion program. In this program, students would be given a year to learn English and later move to a normal classroom ( Amendment 31 ). On November 5, 2002, the initiative was rejected by 55 percent (Benz 1). Considering the rejection of the initiative, Colorado began adapting programs to assist English language learners (ELLs). Nonetheless, dual language education remains highly controversial. While bilingual education has many positive outcomes, we cannot ignore the fact that it is not 100 percent effective. Not every child learns the same; therefore, bilingual education does not provide equal opportunities for everyone. • 27. Optical Filters Used For Edge Detection In image processing, a Gabor filter, named after Dennis Gabor, is a linear filter used for edge detection. Frequency and orientation representations of Gabor filters are similar to those of the human visual system, and they have been found to be particularly appropriate for texture representation and discrimination. In the spatial domain, a 2D Gabor filter is a Gaussian kernel function modulated by a sinusoidal plane wave. Simple cells in the visual cortex of mammalian brains can be modeled by Gabor functions.[1][2] Thus, image analysis with Gabor filters is thought to be similar to perception in the human visual system. A set of Gabor filters with different frequencies and orientations may be helpful for extracting useful features from an image.[7] In the discrete domain, two dimensional Gabor filters are given by, G_c[i,j]=B e^{ frac{(i^2+j^2)}{2sigma^2}}cos(2pif(icosheta+jsinheta)) G_s[i,j]=C e^{ frac{(i^2+j^2)}{2sigma^2}}sin(2pif(icosheta+jsinheta)) where B and C are normalizing factors to be determined. 2 D Gabor filters have rich applications in image processing, especially in feature extraction for texture analysis and segmentation.[8] f defines the frequency being looked for in the texture. By varying heta, we can look for texture oriented in a particular direction. By varying sigma, we change the support of the basis or the size of the image region being analyzed. • 30. Utilitarianism, Virtue And Care Ethics The three ethical theories I will discuss from Chapter 1 include: utilitarianism, virtue and care ethics. First, the utilitarianism is moral standard and a theory of action by humans that are morally right in action. Utilitarianism is an action that is morally right if its consequences are more favorable. One way for businesses , as our reading suggests (Fieser Moseley, 2012), is make a list of all the good and bad for any particular act. If the good outweighs the bad then that action should occur. If the bad outweighs the good, then the action should stop. Utilitarianism theory attempts to keep things on the positive, happier side of the spectrum. A company using this theory is probably functioning well due to their morale analysis of actions related to safe products, good quality products and customer care, a fair price, and fair and equal treatment to their employees. In addition, because utilitarianism is a morale standard, a company would be environmentally conscious and find ways to help the community and the world. A company would work at making their products in an environmentally safe way, recycle surplus and make their products within the United States to support the economy. A company would also look at balancing goods over harm produced to the environment or people. Countless Americans are aware of the fact that the cost of health is high, but not as many are informed as to why it costs so much or how to make it more affordable. Instead, they look at health care as an incurable illness and choose to offer up the explanation that the better quality of American hospitals and services or the sizable population of people to care for are to blame for the high cost, neither of which we have the power to change. In the book The PianoLesson there are many different lessons and themes to be explored. In the story each character is relatable. People of today s society could stand to learn the lessons that each character brings. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second lesson that can be learned from Berniece goes beyond the importance of family it is the importance of ancestral history. The reason Berniece is so attached to the piano is the family history tied to it. When her grandparents were freed from slavery her grandfather died over stealing it. Then even past that her mother was obsessed with playing the piano and cleaned it everyday. She taught Berniece how to play piano on it and her mother used to say it filled her with great joy to hear Berniece play. But, after her mother died Berniece never played the piano again. In this scene Boy Willie yet again is trying to sell the piano. Berniece begins to defend saying, Look at this piano. Mama Ola polished this piano with her tears for seventeen years. For seventeen she rubbed on it till her hands bled. Then she rubbed the blood in. This is part of the reason Berniece is so attached to the piano which is the reason she will never allow Boy Willie to have the piano. Berniece s love for her ancestral history is what causes her to be so attached to piano and why she will always defend it. She at one point pulls a gun out on Boy Willie and says he won t take the piano over her dead body. In this scene which is basically the ending of the story as everything around her is caving in. Berniece has an epiphany to play the piano to cleanse all the surroundings of all trouble. The story goes, It is in this moment, from somewhere old, that Berniece realizes what she must do. She crosses to the piano. She begins to play. The song is found piece by piece. It is an old urge to song that is both a commandment and a plea. With repetition it gains strength. It is intended as an exorcism and a dressing for battle. A rustle of wind blowing across two continents. What ends up happening is it solves all the problems around her. It almost seems to ... Death comes with a lack of nutrients from insufficient food. Death comes with a misstep that leads to a plunge into rough, frigid ocean waters. These statements are especially true on board a ship at sea during the time prior to the 20th century. When people know that death is very likely in a certain situation but still agree to participate in the situation anyway, they posses a characteristic known as courage. Two examples of courageous men are Zheng Heand Charles Wyville Thomson, commanders of very different ocean voyages, and both of these men led their respective crew members towards death with the hopes of conquering or exploring new lands. Zheng He, a worker for the emperor of the Ming Dynasty of China, commanded a giant fleet including 27,000 Chinese soldiers and sailed as far as the Arabian peninsula and the eastern coast of Africa in seven different voyages, starting in 1405 (Dreyer 1). And socialism does mean justice and liberty, when the nonsense is stripped off it. He further declares that the real socialist is one who wishes not merely conceives it as desirable but actively wishes to see tyranny overthrown (Orwell, The Road 76). One senses here that the point is not the ultimate triumph of a particular doctrine or party, but the triumph of human dignity. This triumph can be achieved by war and revolution. Orwell wrote to Cyril Connolly, telling him: I have seen wonderful things and at last really believe in Socialism, which I never did before (Orwell, Collected Essays 269). Although it was clear that he was at least intellectually committed to socialism, it was Spain that gave his socialism an emotional Bedrock and dictated the course his socialism would take. In his preface to the Ukrainian edition of Animal Farm he wrote: Nothing has contributed so much to the corruption of the original idea of Socialism as the belief that Russia is a Socialist country and that every act of its rulers must be excused, if not imitated. First off, biological weapons can potentially live in infected areas for long periods of time. For example, one of the more common diseases used in biological warfare is Anthrax. Anthrax has the capability to transform into spores which protects the bacteria for decades (Hoyle). This offers the chance of spreading the biological agent in the future to other people who were unintended targets. Another example is the incapacitating agent known as the bomblet. When used, the bomblet leaves a remainder of five percent of the agent behind (Eitzen). If the leftover agent is identified, the opponent can research and produce a medical treatment, rendering the agent useless. Another major disadvantage relates to the U.S. The knowledge of the general population is that the U.S. holds no biological weapons (Eitzen). If this is true, another country could easily attack us with biological agents and the U.S. army would not know how to approach such a devastating hit. • 53. Tweeter Price Competitiveness Tweeters price competitiveness From exhibit 13 in the case it is clear that Tweeter is price competitive in almost the entire range of items and models that it sells. In an objective model by model comparison (see appendix 1 for a sample comparison) Tweeter either matches or betters competitor s prices. Further more when you compare quality and level of service and price paid Tweeter is cheaper than the competition. However, the competitors run spot sales (not advertised) and advertised sales, which at the point of sale gives the impression that the competition is more competitively priced. More importantly though the competition namely Lechmere, Circuit City and the Wiz all carry lower range and lower priced items in each category... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tweeter is attempting to address the price sensitivity of their customers by this strategy. So far APP has been successful as a retention and acquisition strategy. From 1992 to 1996 Tweeter s core customer market share has grown from 19.6% to 25.2% (Appendix 8 Tweeter). By contrast with the exception of Circuit city (Appendix 10 Circuit city) over the same period the market share for this class of customer has increased by a smaller percentage (Appendix 9 Lechmere) or actually declined (Appendix 11 Other retailers). Since Tweeter has retained its customers and acquired more customers over the years I would say the strategy is applicable and successful for both functions. The success of the strategy would be amplified if Tweeter educates its customers better about APP since according to the survey, exhibit 14, in the case a large percentage of people are unaware of or have misconceptions about APP thus making it less effective. Competition reaction In 1996 sales to this class of customer at a 30% markup represents $11,975,040 margin for Tweeter, $16,917,120 margin for Lechmere and $13,258,080 margin for Circuit City. This is an important source of margin for the Superstores, however represents only 10% and 15% of their overall sales respectively. So I believe that they will fight to keep their customers rather than fight to gain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The effort put in the creation of the mural can be immeditley be conveyed by the precise details of all three natives on the boat. Furthermore, Anton s style of simplicity by primarly painting in a one dmesional plane, and using shadows and volumes with colors such as yellow, brown, gray, white, and red to evoke emotions is very apparent in this mural. Rather than focusing on the mural itself, the viewer is forced to anaylze the subject matter. In this mural the matter revolves around the death of almost 250,000 natives due to general mistreatment, massacere, disiese, disposesssion, and other indigitinieites. The mistreatment of natives throughout American history has always been problemtic. This mural once again remids indivudals how the land we are standing on was once theirs and setters took it away. In order to expand and grow as a nation, setterls took it the land, sometimes by brute force, from peaceful families like the one in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
