The Mexican War Of Mexico
The Mexican War
Starting in 1845 and concluding in 1850 with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was the era where
the Mexican war occurred. This war had triggers with disagreements on the ideal of Manifest
Destiny and major actions by President Polk that led the United States into attempting to annex
Texas. Texas at that time was independent and was not part of Mexico nor America. Mexico wanted
Texas to stay neutral that they threatened a war to the United States if they tried anything to attempt
anything. Unfortunately, the United States did not really care by going forward with the
annexation and land conquering, sparking a war with Mexico. So the Mexican war began and
nothing was ever the same. The annexation of Texas was the biggest reason as to what started the
tension and the foreseen war between Mexico and the United States. When Texas gained its
independence from Mexico, the United States considered it as open land where as Mexico
thought of it as its own. It started with President Tyler, who did not want Britain to gain Texas,
therefore proposed an annexation. Not only would the gain of Texas add more land to the United
States, but the south wanted it as well because it would be considered as another slave state.
Mexico threatened war if Texas was annexed but once part of it was they did nothing about it,
leaving tension between the United States and Mexico. Everyone has the right to negotiate, but
coming up with an agreement between Mexico and the United

Manipulation In Flight To Canada
Manipulation is used in several different ways, by many people to garner power and money. In
the novel, Flight to Canada by Ishmael Reed, manipulation is used by two characters, President
Abraham Lincoln, and a slave named Uncle Robin. This novel is set in the middle of the United
States civil war, where aspects of modern time like planes have been incorporated into the
setting. The plot of Flight to Canada, begins with three slaves quest to get to Canada where they
can be freed from slavery. Their owner, Arthur Swille, desperately wants them back. One slave who
ran, Raven Quickskill, is one of the few slaves to know how to read and write and write well.
Quickskill s departure creates a spot for Uncle Robin, who also knows how to read and write,...

Lincoln needs gold for the war. The Union is broke and has many debts but still obviously needs
to continue fighting the war. Therefore, President Lincoln must go behind enemy lines, and
meet with Mr. Swille, the wealthiest man in the country. Lincoln is in the odd position of
assuming a more submissive role even though he is the President of the country. This is how his
strategy starts out. Lincoln is going to compliment and treat Swille like he is head and shoulders
better than Lincoln, even if he doesn t believe that. The first thing that comes out of Lincolns
mouth to Swille is setting the tone for the conversation: Mr. Swille, it s a pleasure, he says,
extending his hand to Swille, who sits behind a desk rumored to have been owned by Napoleon
III. I m a small time lawyer and now I find myself in the room of the mighty... (Reed 23). Lincoln
here brings himself lower than Swille by reminding him that he is just a small time lawyer from
Illinois. It is a tactic that for most people would be taken and realized what he is trying to do but
not mentioned. Swille however, isn t that type of man: Cut the yokel dokel, Lincoln, I don t
have all day. What s on your mind Swille rejects Lincoln s hand, at which Lincoln stares hurt
(Reed 23). Lincoln is seemingly surprised by Swilles actions, or perhaps realizing he will have to
change tactics to achieve what he wants. In either case, his strategy must change. A fighter is
what Swille wants to see, a challenge perhaps. Mr. Swille travels all over the world having people
treat him like a god, and what he wants is someone to show that they have qualities that can help
Swille. Lincoln doesn t come out this way until after Swille has threatened and made jokes of
everything Lincoln has from his wife to his political

Meursault as Sisyphus in Albert Camus ,The Stranger
But from the moment he knows, his tragedy begins. Meursault is not unlike Sisyphus. In the novel,
The Stranger, by Albert Camus, we watch this character change from a carefree man who loves
being alive and free to a man who is imprisoned for a meaningless murder he commits but who
eventually finds happiness in his fate.
During the first half of the novel, we see many examples of Meursault s freedom and how he
exercises it. He does what he wants, when he wants to with no regard to how he affects the people
around him. Meursault lives his life with no restrictions. He is his own boss. Relaxed and free.
In the opening of the novel, Meursault receives word that his mother has passed away. While
keeping her vigil, he smokes a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He acts so indifferent about her death that, by that evening, Marie had forgotten all about it.
Someone looking in from the outside would think he is heartless, but the thought doesn t even cross
his mind. He is blissfully ignorant.
The point in which Meursault s freedom is taken from him is when he puts five bullets into a man
for no apparent reason. Perhaps the first bullet is understandable, self defense maybe since the man
had a knife. But the other four bullets were pointless.
During the second half of the book is where we see the most connections to The Myth of Sisyphus.
Meursault is imprisoned for the crime he commits. Sisyphus is condemned to ceaselessly rolling
a rock to the top of a mountain for his crime. It is in the courtroom, while on trial, that he
becomes conscious to the fact that he is a criminal and that all of the people hate him not only
for his crime, but also for the way that he lived his life when he was a free man. He states, It was
then I felt a stirring go through the room and for the first time I realized I was guilty. It is in this
consciousness that it becomes tragic. He finally realizes the whole extent of his wretched condition.
Meursault and Sisyphus both have rocks of their own. Sisyphus is literally a rock. Meursault s rock
is symbolic. When Meursault is alone at night in his prison cell, he thinks back to the days when he
was

Similarities Between Mentoring And Coaching
1.Mentoring and Coaching of Staff
Mentoring and Coaching and terms often used separately or jointly and refers to a type of
management tool used to achieve positive results in an employee s personal and professional
growth. Similarities is said to exist between both mentoring and coaching and established
differences are also noted based on the focus of each method. It is very important to first
understand how each is defined, the similarities and the differences and and then dissect how it will

The Continuing Immigration Debate Summary
Mark Rosenblum, US IMMIGRATION POLICY SINCE 9/11 Mark Rosenblum s U.S
Immigration Policy Since 9/11 does not provide an argument but rather he describes challenges,
and identifies questions central to the future of the U.S immigration debate. Overall, it seems that
prior to 9/11 it seemed migration negotiations were stalled every time. Whether this was done
purposely or is merely a coincidence is my concern.
Rosenblum states that migration negotiations going well until 2001, post 9/11 period, when
migration negotiations with Mexico collapsed (1). Rosenblum goes on to illustrate how policy
changed after 9/11, resulting in five sweeping antiterrorism measures that fall into three groups (4).

Garcia uses surveys to examine various aspects of immigration policy, behavior, and settlement. It is
refreshing to hear that immigrants do not let policy influence their destination of settlement. I
would imagine that policy would have an immense impact on dynamics such as this. In addition, it
was not surprising that economic and social factors more prominently shape immigrants settlements
and residency patterns (1). This perspective was refreshing and different compared to others.

Biography Of Daniel Boone
Daniel Boone was born on November 2, 1734, near Reading, Pennsylvania. In 1755, he left
home on a military expedition during the French and Indian War. In 1769, Boone led an
expedition and discovered a trail to the far west though the Cumberland Gap. In 1775, he settled
an area he called Boonesborough in Kentucky, but faced Indian resistance. On September 26,
1820, Boone died in Femme Osage Creek, Missouri. American explorer and frontiersman Daniel
Boone was raised in a log cabin in Exeter Township, near Reading, Pennsylvania. His father,
Squire Boone, Sr., was a blacksmith and a weaver who met his wife, Sarah Morgan, in

escaping the French and Indian ambush on horseback. Daniel Boone is one of the most widely
known American frontiersmen. Boone s fame stems from his exploits during the exploration and

Harriet Tubman s Impact On The Slave Community
Society is a pile of puzzle pieces that cannot fit together. Every single individual has their own say
and point of view. But, can one individual change what everyone thinks? Or, is this just another
dent in the barrier? An individual s voice can have an impact, but it cannot change society.
A person who has a voice over a certain group of people will impact only those people. Harriet
Tubman, for example, had a huge impact on the slave community. She was known as the Moses ,
leading them to safety. Slave owners did not feel elated at this idea. Their plan was to hunt down
and bring back their slaves. Tubman s actions did not settle in the Southern American community.
Eventually, slavery was abolished. But, there are some people today in

Albert Bierstadt, Puget Sound On The Pacific Coast
The painting that I choose to write my art paper on is Albert Bierstadt, Puget Sound on the Pacific
Coast you can find it on page 33 in our textbook. I chose to write on this painting for several
reasons that I am about to go in to.
The subject of this painting to me is a picture of the Pacific coast when a rainstorm is starting to
come inland. The context is Indians on boats just gotten to the coast to avoid the storm that has
already started at sea.
The painting also has many other elements that are used. The painting is represential, and it is
also used naturalism because it is not exactly that way that Puget Sound really is however it does
look similar to many of the beaches on the Pacific Coast. It is also realistic for how the coast

How the North and South Ended Reconstruction
The North and South both ended Reconstruction. After the Civil War there was a time if rebuilding
the nation called Reconstruction. During this time everyone had their own thoughts about the
North and South, people of different race, and political offices. This leads us to a major thought,
how the North and South ended Reconstruction. As people targeted carpetbaggers and scalawags,
African American voters and Government Officials Reconstruction became more tense, also
problems and racism in the North sprung about.
Carpetbaggers were targeted during Reconstruction creating more tension. Carpetbaggers were

Key Elements For Tissue And Organ Regeneration
Introduction Tissue engineering is an interdisciplinary approach that basically replaces, restore the
function and regenerate the damaged cell or tissue using biological substitutes. Succinctly,
extracellular matrix (ECM) in human tissue is a key element for tissue and organ regeneration. It
provides a convenient environment for the cellular attachment, growth and migration stimulate by
specific signals. This solid matrix has a complex mixture of structural and functional proteins that
serve as a reliable source of nutrient for the cells. ECM also associated with the cell behaviour,
tissue differentiation, organisation and neovascularisation. In tissue engineering, the suitable
scaffolds are use to act as an ECM analogue (1). The various roles and complicated composition of
ECM become a great challenge for the scaffolds to mimic the native ECM in repairing the diseased
or damaged tissue. Thus, it is important to develop the ideal scaffolds with optimal properties and
architecture since its mechanical characteristics will greatly affect the activity of cell adhesion,
proliferation and differentiation. Apparently, the biomaterial used in fabrication of scaffolds may
influence its significant features, such as biodegradability, bioactivity and porosity. The bioactivity,
including cell adhesion, cell alignment and interaction between scaffolds and cellular components
could be enhanced by adding the biological cues onto the biomaterials. Besides that, it is also
important for

The Ideas Of Einstein And Freud
Mr. Schneiders World History Kyndall Roberts Feb. 12, 2015 Section 1: Question 3: The ideas
of Einstein and Freud were revolutionary because of how they shaped faith of reasoning and
science. Einstein shook the ideas and laws that Isaac Newton had formerly created about motion
and gravity. In 1905, Albert Einstein came up with the theory of relativity, which stated that
although the speed of light is constant, other things like space and time are not. He believed
that speed and time can change when it is measured relatively to an object moving near the
speed of light about 186,000 miles/hour. These ideas had implications not only for science, but
for the world. There was uncertainty and relativity that replaced the sense of security that came
with Isaac Newton s laws. Einstein and Isaac s point of views were very different. Sigmund
Freud had ideas that were as revolutionary as Einstein s. Freud treated psychology patients. From
his experiences, he constructed a theory about the human mind. He came up with the idea that a
part of the human mind is irrational, but it is now called the unconscious. In the unconscious,
many drives existed, such as pleasure seeking drives that the conscious mind was unaware of.
Freud s ideas actually weakened faith in reasoning. By the 1920 s, Freud s ideas had developed
widespread influence. Question 4: Literature in the 1920 s was affected by World War 1. The
brutality of the war caused philosophers and writers to question ideas about

Merger Between Staples And Office Depot
Proposed Merger between Staples and Office Depot Leads to Concerns of Higher Prices
The effect and impact of corporate mergers of companies can be a significant change for the
company s prosperity and growth as well as the consumer s point of view also. Though few of
the mergers and acquisitions might be helpful for the company and be profitable as well there
are always few risks and failures that come with the process. According to a study the company
has only 50% chance of success when it comes to merger and acquisition. But still very big
companies do the merger because they can become bigger by combing with their competitors and
end their competition. But sometimes these mergers are expected to create a monopoly in the
sector because they will dominate the whole sector and cause a biased decision for the customers.
This case talks about the merger between two of the biggest office supplies companies Staples and
Office Depot. Through this case we will discuss on the merger between the two big companies
created a tension of monopoly and whether or not it will be profitable for both sides of the merger.
This Mega Merger created a sense of stress in the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) also forcing it
to file a case against both the parties for creating a monopoly in the business. If we look at this case
in the view of a Firm Manager we can clearly identify the rights and the wrong in the case and

The science of oil painting came to it s full fruition in the nineteenth century. The palette now
included dazzling colors which could electrify a painting. First a student of Cabanel s and later
influenced by Mariano Fortuny y Marshal, Regnault was one of the rising stars of the Romantic
movement. He lived a passionate life, traveling to the Middle East even though he was broke,
hanging out in Spain as it rose up against Queen Isabella the Second, he loved excitement and
adventure.
Henri Regnault predicted that he would not live long. Less than a year after this painting was
completed his prediction came true; while fighting in the Franco Prussion war, even though he was
exempt from military service because of his artist status, he died in the battle of Buzenfal at the age
of twenty eight. (www.artcycolpedia.com)
The painting is very expressive as it shows the strength of the humanity and nature. The human is
actually winning this battle with the horses. The dark colors also accompany this idea. The
lighting is rather dim in this painting with a stormy sky above. The perspective is from floor level
making the viewer look up in order to appreciate the full specter of this painting. The massive size
of the painting proves that Regnault is trying to express power and

I never plagiarism not because of avoid punishment just because I don t want to cheat myself . 2rd

But situation in some relative low quality University is quite different. For example, a study by
Lim and See (2001) based in Singapore, which they describe as one of the most competitive
educational systems in the world , found that students
are morally ambivalent about academic cheating and are rather tolerant of dishonesty among their
peers. On the issue of whether cheating behaviors should be reported...a majority of students chose
to take the expedient measure of ignoring the problem rather than to blow the whistle on their peers .
Motivation not only important in University but also in future working area . the reason less adult
cheating than student is they not only have strong motivation but also take plagiarism seriously .
they realize they are truly participating in the society and nonsense to do such cheating thing .
For example , many studies have shown that academic staff and students have very different
attitudes towards cheating and plagiarism (Stern Havlicek, 1986; Anderson Obershain, 1994; Roth
McCabe, 1995; Higbee Thomas, 2000). Evans Craig (1990) uncovered general agreement between

Starbucks s Special Design Red Cup

people love the variety of designs and patterns on the Red Cup. They even take picture with the cup
to express their supports on social media. According to Starbucks, the company proudly announces
that a picture of their holiday cup gets posted on Instagram every 14 seconds, within the first 48
hours of the Red Cup s debut. However, the excitement and participation cools down in the
holiday season of 2016, after the Red Cup makes it entrance again. The public do not welcome the
latest designs of the cup, because of its simple looks. To further explain, Starbucks introduces the

logo. After the first impression, some people accuse the company becoming an anti Christmas
corporation. They also points out that the Red Cup serves as a symbol of Satan s presence. As a
result, many express their displeasure on social media, along with the hashtag boycottStarbucks. At

Jonathan Watt s Defoe s Transition From Literary...
1a. According to Watt, Defoe s transition from literary traditionalism to true individual experience
mostly distinguishes Defoe from earlier writers. Defoe also rejects the traditional plot series, which
sets him apart from writers like Chaucer, Spenser, Shakespeare, and Milton, who accepted the
general premise of their times that, since Nature is essentially complete and unchanging in records,
whether scriptural, legendary or historical, constitute[s] a definitive repertoire of human experience
(366). Meaning that Defoe did not just reiterate plots from previous literature, which turn out to be
romanticized versions of historical legends and periods in history.
1b. I believe that Watt is accurate and that Defoe distinguishes his writing from others by making an
emphasis on the individual character. Most of the earlier writers based their prose around a test of
faith or trial that the protagonist either passes or fails. Most of these characters signify bigger
themes, such as Una in The Faerie Queen, who stood for the one true faith of England, and other
characters were based around significant people in feudal system such as Queen Elizabeth I, or
Saint George: Patron of England. Every part of the stories signified something more significant,
whereas Defoe takes his novel and tells the story of Moll Flanders.
2a. According to Watt, this dominant theory of the time period continued to incline toward the use
of traditional plots (367) in written works. Defoe s literary

Of the human figures, the first is male and faces the two centaurs to the left of the viewer. Also
lunging forward, he plants his front foot as the heel of his back foot rises. His hair is shorter than
that of the centaurs, and he holds the Boeotian variation of the hoplite shield that covers his mouth
and chin. This shield is decorated with the outline of a turtle. The restored condition of the body
leaves his clothing, or lack thereof, indistinguishable. It is also hard to discern whether he or the
character to his right is holding a sword, which is short and points downward. The next figure, also
human, lunges in the opposite direction. He is bearded and mustached, and lion skin is draped

Morality of Giving Essays
How much money is one morally obligated to give to relief overseas? Many In people would say
that although it is a good thing to do, one is not obligated to give anything. Other people would
say that if a person has more than he needs, then he should donate a portion of what he has. Peter
Singer, however, proposes a radically different view. His essay, Famine, Affluence, and Morality
,
focuses on the Bengal crisis in 1971 and claims that one is morally obligated to give as much as
possible. His thesis supports the idea that We ought to give until we reach the level of marginal
utility that is, the level at which, by giving more, I would cause as much suffering to myself or
my dependents as I would relieve by my gift (399). He says... Show more content on

So he is saying If a person saw a child drowning in a lake, he would be morally obligated to try
and save him. Any inconvenience caused from wading into the lake would mean nothing
compared to letting the child die. Now, if a person would be morally wrong not to save the child
who is geographically near him, would he not be obligated to save the child in another country? Is
having thousands of miles between the giver and the one in need a good enough reason for him not
to have the same obligation to help? The clear conclusion is that, although there are far more
people in dire need than one could ever help, one must give as much as he can. One must
provide so much support where, by giving more, he would be worse off than the receiver of his
gift. While this argument uses reason as it s primary means of convincing, the emotional aspect of
it is also very important. The essay attempts to capture the readers emotions by putting them in the
situation of seeing a child drown, there is no normal person who wouldn t help. When he asks
about providing famine relief to the people in other countries, the reader feels guilt, which
strengthens the essay s argument. The ideals presented in his essay present a world where there is
no famine or poverty, and people care about about everyone else equally. This is not something that
is expected to happen, and certainly not from one persons

Manga
Comics didn t interest me much until a few years ago: long Indian summers spent reading Archie
digests out of utter boredom had convinced me that there wasn t much to the form. It was only
when a friend introduced me to Japanese comics (or manga) three years ago that I began to realize
that the synthesis of image and text could produce complex layers of meaning, which shifted from
reading to reading. In Japan, mangahas spread and diversified as a dominant (almost the dominant)
medium in mass culture The huge audience for manga in Japan has allowed artists to diversify into
many different types, the two primary classifications being shonen boys manga and shoujo girls
manga. Shonen manga are usually heavy on action and light on... Show more content on

Initially, I concentrated on buying a wide range of manga to sample rather than focusing on
specific series. In this way, I acquired random volumes of series such as Gensomaden Saiyuki,
Neon Genesis Evangelion and Revolutionary Girl Utena. Once I got an idea of which types of
manga I found most appealing, I began to focus on acquiring several volumes of a particular
series. For example, I now own all of the Banana Fish volumes that have so far been translated into
English.
Currently, I am eager to acquire volumes of series such as Banana Fish, Paradise Kiss and Mars,
which are all similar to apprentice novels or novels of awakening, in which the characters find
their place in society through various experiences. I am also researching other boys love artists,
such as Motoni Modoru. She borrows from several genres, including horror and Taisho period
historical novels, to produce atmospheric thrillers. More generally, I would like to focus on titles
that are more creative and unusual than the run of the mill boys love story. One example is the
mafia thriller cum horror story Face, which I acquired last October.
Lastly, the popularity of manga and Japanese animation (or anime) in America has inspired a large
number of aspiring American artists to produce work that is written in English, but incorporates
shoujo manga techniques of drawing and story telling. This movement has resulted in several
interesting collaborations and

Slaughter Is The Violent Killing Of A Large Number Of People
Slaughter. As defined by the Merriam Webster Dictionary, slaughter is the violent killing of a
large number of people. Synonyms including; bloodbath, butchery, carnage, death, holocaust,
massacre. I, for one, hate this ugly word. It causes several things to come to mind when I hear it
muttered: The Holocaust, genocide, death, all of the repulsive and vial occurrences of the world
summed in one word. It s a grim topic, and most certainly one that doesn t occur in the US
anymore, right? After all, one of the world s leading super powers couldn t possibly be dealing
with a magnanimous amount of bloodshed on our lands. Am I correct? Well, what if I told you
that over 3.7 billion farm animals are killed every year in the United States for food. The
ongoing slaughter of billions of animals a year, with little thought or consideration to the
inhumane abuse that these animals experience, is a saddening truth that shouldn t be a fact
today. Many say that the process of farming today is a marvel, with the fact that we can feed an
entire nation so quickly. There is no famine, no lack of food at any time. It is a marvel we can
create such a method that is so effective to feed thousands a day and I would agree if animals that
are killed for food weren t treated like a machine on an assembly line. Several companies, like
Perdue, make claims that their animals are treated righteously, live happy, and healthy lives,
however, the movie Food Inc. sheds light on how corporate business has

The Beanes Research Paper
The Beanes family is traced back from Christopher Banes who was an immigrant from Scotland
and started his life as a merchant and planter. Dr. William Beanes is a fourth generation Scottish
man born on the 24th of January 1749 to the parents of William Beanes and Mary Bradley at
Brook Ridge, a thousand acre farm near Croom, Maryland on the Patuxent River. His father was
the first in his family to move to Prince Georges County. Brooke Ridge was given to his great
grandmother, Anne Brooke since her brother died childless in 1671. William Beanes was one of
seven children in his family (Magruder 2). After looking closely at the Maryland Historical Trust,

The Darkness of Relationships
Relationships are the foundation of everything in this world, especially in literature. If there is no
relationship present, there is essentially no story; in the short story A Temporary Matter by Jhumpa
Lahiri the entire story focuses on the married immigrants, Shoba and Shukumar, and their
relationship. Unfortunately, their relationship is an example of something that is commonly seen
in many North American relationships. Lahiri clearly depicts them as an unhappy couple that
possesses a deeply flawed marriage, and are only able to connect through negativity, irritation, and
grief. This text clearly portrays an intensely damaged relationship and shows the ways in which a
relationship can quickly fall apart ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On page 13 it states, Okay, he said, remembering. The first time we went out to dinner, to the
Portuguese place, I forgot to tip the waiter. I went back the next morning, found out his name, left
money with the manager. (Lahiri 13) This scene is the first night of their power being out, and
Shukumar s first confession to Shoba. It is about the memory of the first time they went out for
dinner together, which is a happy memory for both of them. It is also a humorous confession
because it is about something so simple and innocent. He finishes this confession in an adoring
way, Shoba asks, Why did you forget to tip the waiter? (Lahiri 14) and he replies with, By the
end of the meal I had a funny feeling I might marry you. (Lahiri 14) This shows how the use of
memory brings a couple closer together and allows them to feel a similar feeling that they might
have felt when they were first meeting. This is often referred to as the honeymoon phase of their
relationship, meaning they are happy and the relationship is still within its innocent state. They
have little to no problems between the two of them because they have known each other for such a
short time. They are just beginning to fall in love, and these types of joyful memories are the kind
that people love to hold onto because of all the wonderful feelings they get from them. As the nights

The iMac was made by Apple, released on June 5, 2017. The iMac is ideal for me because it fits

3.0GHz quad core 7th generation Intel Core i5 processor, which is useful for me as I need it for
daily use and require the processor to run fast, the 8GB 2400MHz memory that is enough since I

From these options I would have the 1TB SSD because an SSD does everything a hard drive does
functionally, but data is instead stored on interconnected flash memory chips that retain the data
even when there s no power present so nothing is moving. Opposite to that is a hard drive which
basically is a metal platter with a magnetic coating that stores your data, this last only for a
certain time until it wears off, and the disk also spins making noise. For speed, an SSD equipped
PC will boot in just seconds and a hard drive requires time to speed up to operating specs, and will
continue to be slower than an SSD during normal use. Due to this high speed storage, loading large
files and launching softwares will be much faster than the previous macs.
For the appearance for the iMac pro, the height of it is 17.7 inches, the width is 20.8 inches, the
stand depth is 6.9 inches and the weight of it is 5.66 kg. Moreover, it has an amazing 500 nits of

George Berkeley
George Berkeley sort of follows up on John Locke s philosophy in being immaterial or idealist.
The excerpt seems to me like an attempt in solidifying Locke s notions about ideas existing but
directly questions the existence of matter or substance. I don t feel Locke was being so bold.
According to Berkeley, something exists only if it can be perceived. An entity must be able to
perceive and form notions/ideas about the object in order for said object to exist. Anything that
cannot be perceived does not exist? As I was quickly forming counter arguments to this claim,
Berkeley goes on to say that God, of infinite mind, perceives all objects so even if no other entity is
there to perceive it, the object remains in existence. Talk about a master key. My... Show more

In some ways, I believe our thought functions have evolved sufficiently in the course of the last
few hundred years that allow us to conceive of bodies extended and moved without attributing
sensible qualities. A moving naked singularity somewhere out in the intergalactic medium comes to
mind. It has no sensible qualities that I can ascribe to it. Any primary and secondary qualities
would arise wholly from other material around the singularity. Without material around it, it still
exists to me without qualities (unless he would call my notions of the affect the singularity would
have on incident matter qualities). I still acknowledge its existence and therefore recognize its
potential roles in cause and effect. What would Berkeley s thoughts be on inertial forces in
accelerated reference frames? Specifically, the gravitational force, a force that arises by the mere
presence of substance. True to determine anything quantitative you would need the qualities of the
substance, but even a singularity imposes a gravitational force and a singularity doesn t even have
a formally defined radius or extent yet alone any of the other qualities he

Battle On The Plains Of Abraham And The Metis
Battles help students realize the perspectives of each side. For an example, Battle on the Plains of
Abraham and Battle of Seven Oaks have perspectives of British and French or Scottish and The
Metis, which makes students become more aware of which side they agree on . However, both of
these battles started with a vengeance, hatred and wrongdoings, but differ in the terms of their
elaborate details, specific reasons, and surprising results after the fighting.
One similarity between these 2 battles is that the English side caused both of the battles. The British
caused it by capturing Louisberg and Quebec on the other hand, the Scottish banned the Metis from
trading meat, fish, or vegetables from the Red river. Both, British and Scottish tortured their
enemies in different ways. The Scottish starved The Metis and took things away from them
whereas The British bombarded Louisberg so the French would surrender it. In addition, the French

Analysis Of Social Life By Philip Larkin
In the first stanza of the poem, Larkin sets us in the middle of mundane middle class English
social life. He notes that we involve ourselves in all sorts of socializing; but even though we fill
up our time with such social activities, Larkin suggests that such a life is empty and that although
we disguise it from ourselves, underneath we really want to be alone. In the second stanza he
extends the wish to be alone to its logical terminus, death. He suggests, then, that in spite of our
social involvement we all have a death wish within us and that immersing ourselves in the social
round is harmful because it is a mechanism we use to prevent ourselves from coming to terms with
death and our desire for it; i.e. we kill our natural awareness towards death and the temporal nature
of life through indulgence in social traps. In the poem images are conjured up by the use of... Show

Horse Soring Issue
In this essay, I will explain the facts, and argue my own views and opinions on horse soring, a
topic that has been booming for horse owners and horse lovers in the United States and other
foreign countries for the past forty years. This issue has not only been affecting the horse
population, but its controversy has spread and became a huge issue in our government. People use
soring to win competitions in a very cruel way. Nothing about this issue seems very fair to me
whatsoever.
The HPA otherwise known as the horseprotection act, passed as a bill by congress in 1970 to

1970 stated it to be cruel and inhumane to force a horse to sore in a competition if it did not

Unfortunately there are people who make unethical choices to gain unfair advantages. This

the horses that help them win. Even now in 2016 after almost forty years horses seem to still

time after Harry Truman s victory in 1948. Mrs. Clinton was a seasoned politician with the

Mr. Trump, on the other hand, was an inexperienced outsider, with neither a military nor a

Effect of Business Acquisition to Get Competitive...
Effect of business acquisition to get competitive advantage based on the case study: Acquisition of
Somerfield by Co operative group
Background:
Business acquisition is one of the most vital tools to expand an existing business effectively. An
acquisition takes place when an existing company buys another company which has more or less
similar operating activities and ended up controlling it. It is clearly different from merger which is
the integration of a business with another and sharing the control of the combined businesses

Managing the process of acquisition correctly is the major challenge to make an acquisition
work. A number of different factors that ranges from setting well defined goals to look for
circumstances under which it will make sense to walk away must be carefully considered to
make a successful acquisition. In order to carry out an acquisition activity one must first
understand whether the business is ready for it. A SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities
and threats) analysis can be carried out to assess the condition of the business as it might give a
clear direction about how to take maximum advantage of the strengths, resolve weaknesses,
exploit opportunities and avoid threats. Another way to understand whether the business is
ready for an acquisition is to carrying out a strategic gap analysis. This involves identifying
where the business stands now where one wants to see it after a defined period of time. By
identifying the gap between the two one can decide whether acquisition is well enough to bridge
the gap. However the extent of planning and research that can be done before making an
acquisition decision does not always prove to be enough as situations outside of control may arise
and one have to be prepared for these risks. Degree of uncertainty and the time and effort that are
spent for the deal can in effect damage the performance

Egg Chromatography Lab
Introduction
Chromatography is an experimental technique used to separate a substance into its components
based upon their polarities or non polarities. The purpose of this experiment was to use thin layer
chromatography to separate lipid molecules in an egg yolk sample. Silica thin layer chromatography
(TLC) plates were used along with the egg yolk sample and standard solutions of the three lipids
that were extracted from the egg yolk. Very small portions of the analytes were added to the plate
and placed into the chromatography chamber, which was filled with a solution of chloroform,
methanol, and water. The egg yolk separated into its components, and the standard solutions also
moved according to polarities. The hydroxyl groups on the plate due to the silica hydrogen bond

The TLC plate was also used to confirm that these lipids are present in egg yolk by comparing the
dots to the dots from the egg yolk sample that separated on the TLC plate. Retention factors were
calculated to compare how far each dot traveled based on polarity. This lab is relevant to the
discussion of polar and nonpolar molecules, the brief overview of chromatography in the textbook,
and discussions on hydrogen bonding. In the field of biochemistry, chromatography is frequently
used for DNA fingerprinting, quality analysis in the food industry, diagnosis of diseases and

taken seriously at the time, creating alarm in parents with the claim that reading the crime ,
superhero and horror comics that contain descriptions of violence, sex, drug use and other adult

Giving my students the opportunity to participate in such protocols and be exposed to aboriginal

important step towards reconciliation. In collaboration with the Aboriginal Education Officer

the daily activities and strengthen links to the community. I look to remove the separation that
exists between the two cultures and allow my students to become sensitised at a very young age to
the Indigenous culture. In a similar way to the efforts of the first school of Annabella, who sought
to bridge the gap between the two cultures by teaching the local language first then English, I
would look to incorporate the local Dharug language into the classroom (Groome and Garner,

The Ethical Dimension Of The Demise Of Enron Corporation
This paper explores the ethical dimension of the demise of Enron Corporation an reflection of
author, placed in hypothetical situations. Accounting Fraud and Management philosophy will be
the main discussion topics, along with the motivations of fraud. The fall of Enron can be directly
attributed to a violation of ethical standards in business. This makes Enronunique in corporate
history for the same actions that made Enron on of the fastest growing and most profitable
corporations, at the turn of the 21st century, also bout about its destruction. This paper does not
explore legal consequences, only the ethical dimension of Enron s actions. Enron Corporation:
Ethics Case Study and Personal Reflection Capitalism is an amoral system that follows protocol of
mechanical laws of supply and demand. Over the course of two centuries our country has tried to
introduce ethics and morality into economic constructs. Anti trust, labor laws, and regulation have
been our attempts to introduce an ethical element into an otherwise unfeeling system of exchange.
The reason, an attempt to reduce damage that is possible by the manipulation of capitalism. And
to not only to create an even playing field but keeping the field from reverting back to being
occupied by serfs. Corporations offer many benefits to society, increased supply of goods, tax
revenue, jobs...etc. They can also cause damage as in the case of Enron Corporation.

Although qualitative analysis is used for physical areas, with the usage to tackle non financial
information, it can be widely useful in business and finance fields.(kesh and Raja 2005, 167) The
qualitative analysis of the company level is concerned with products and services, competitive
advantage, management efficiency, corporate culture. Advanced products can get increasing cash
inflows and improve company value (Carter and Demissew 2008, 63) because booming demand
for products and services can lead to a high reinvestment rate of the company, this creates additional
wealth.( Madden 2007, 125) Competitive advantage can includes producing capacity and the
efficiency of a company s design and cost controlling better than the industry s competitors.
Generating a competitive advantage for a company will creates stakeholder value. (Vilanova,
Lozano and Arenas 2009, 63) The improvement of management efficiency can lower operating
costs and company culture can enhance corporate image, leading to improvement of company value.
Quantitative factors
The quantitative factors in fundamental analysis are based on a deep understanding of financial
reports which is the process of identifying opportunities and threats from the company, so investors
must be concerned with the balance sheet, cash flow statement and income statement analysis.
Financial statements consist of all important historical information about the company s operation
management during a specific time period

Essay On Job Opportunities
Employment Opportunities The UCSD Career Center provides many opportunities to develop the
future careers of students, and one of those opportunities is student employment. The Port Triton
Portal is an online collection of all work opportunities for students, including jobs, internships, and
volunteering, including work study, where students can apply for jobs and employers can post job
listings. Although the Port Triton Portal is only accessible by students and potential employers, I
would guess that the jobs that are being offered include both on and off campus jobs, as well as
full time and part time jobs. Since students are still studying while working the jobs, I presume that
most of the job opportunities for students don t... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Apparently, the biology and natural science programs at UCSD is extremely popular, to the point
where they had to begin to regulate the amount of students that declared those majors, and the
Scripps Institution of Oceanography is something that I would like to attend, given the impacts of
global warming on sea life and the amount of resources that the school has.
Extracurricular Activities UCSD s intercollegiate athletics competes in NCAA Division II in the
California Collegiate Athletic Association conference, and they are the UC San DiegoTritons. For
their intercollegiate sports, they offer many men s and women s sports, from basketball to fencing
to water polo, and offer the same sports for both men and women for the most part, although men
have golf and baseball, while women have softball. In addition to intercollegiate athletics, UCSD
offers both intramural sports and club sports. Intramural sports are recreational sports that are open
to anyone, and allow athletes to compete in a friendly atmosphere. It costs $7 a quarter to play
intramural sports, but that $7 allows a student to participate in as many intramurals as they desire.
The school offers many different intramural sports, for men, women, and coed, allowing students to
have fun and socialize while playing a sport that they enjoy. Club sports is another form of
intercollegiate athletics, but it isn t on the same competitive scale as NCAA athletics, and allows

Those pictures of the floods are frightening, it is awful for those people loosing their homes, and
the lost habitats of the animals. Get Smart was one of my favourites in the 60 s and still is today,
I have the first series on DVD and keep meaning to get the rest, he had a very rare Sunbeam Tiger
in bright red. The Beverley hillbillies, Adams family, the Munsters and manfrom uncle were all
favourites, I had a man from uncle set comprising an attachГ© case and a pen with invisible ink,
also had the Corgi car version of the car from the series, an Oldsmobile if I remember right. I never
saw Zorro the series though I remember a movie of that name. I remember Clarence the cross eyed
lion, and Judy but what did they call the chimp ? was it Ghia ?, I always wanted to be a zoo keeper
when I was at school, always loved animals. I saw the original series of Batman on tv a few years
ago, another car I always wanted, I still have the corgi car of that, and I bought that with my
pocket money when it came out, about 1968 I would think. My favourite Disney character, maybe
Baloo the bear or Bageera the black panther from Jungle book, I need to think to name others.
When I said 35/65 I meant that word dreamy was likely to be used 65% of the time by women
because that is how women describe their pop star pin ups, where as men describing their pin ups
are more likely to say, she s fit . So for that reason the word dreamy is unlikely to be used to
describe Yorkshire Wolds, more likely to be used to describe a paradise beach or somewhere of a
romantic nature. It s like the word pretty , its use is probably 95% by women, it is a girly word, the

Marburg Hemorrhagic Fever Research Paper
In the year 1967 a disease called the Marburg virus (MVD), formerly known as Marburg
hemorrhagic fever, was discovered. MVD was identified during epidemics in Marburg and
Frankfurt in Germany and in Belgrade in the former Yugoslavia (now Serbia) from importation of
infected African green monkeys from Uganda. Thirty one people became sick, first the laboratory
staff, followed by several family members and medical personnel who took care of the ill
laboratory workers. Seven deaths were reported. The very first people infected were researching the
imported African Green monkeys or the tissue of the monkeys while conducting research.
The main host of the Marburg virus is the Egyptian fruit bat,

The Importance Of The Canadian Charter Of Rights
The Canadian Charter of Rights has been entrenched in the Constitution Act of 1982 since 1982
and affected the lives of countless Canadians ever since it was passed, with most if not all of the
effects being positive. This can be proven by the fact that the act that the act has only faced two
amendments in the 35 years it has been in effect. Furthermore, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms
has five components; Fundamental Freedoms, Democratic Rights, Mobility Rights, Legal Rights,
and Equality Rights. All of these were designed to make sure that Canadians face no
discrimination, and are not denied any basic rights. This can be seen by seeing how much the
quality of life for Canadians has increased over the time the Charter has been embedded in the
Constitution, by how much the Charter actually does protect the rights of Canadians. The first way
that the Charter has improved the quality of life for Canadians is through its section on
Fundamental Freedoms, it ensures that Canadians are guaranteed the right to express their
opinions, choose their own religion, organize peaceful meetings, and associate with any person or
group. These four subsections have gone miles in improving the comfort Canadians now
experience, starting off with the right to express your opinions, this has been a big problem for
First Nations when they were taken into residential schools and were not allowed to express their
opinions on whether they wanted to be a part of them, as in if they did they would

Junior year was full of many new experiences. We were now classified as upper classmen! Just
like any of the other years in high school this year had just as many ups and downs. One of the
main stresses in eleventh grade was the SAT. For sure one of the scariest things that I have ever
had to do. All of the preparation going into it and the amount of studying made me feel as if I
wasn t going to have a brain by the time the testing was over. I took collegeand career readiness,
which really helped prepare me for what was to come. By this time in high schoolI had already had
my job for a little over a month, so I already knew what to expect once schoolstarted. I am thankful

  • 2. The Mexican War Of Mexico The Mexican War Starting in 1845 and concluding in 1850 with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was the era where the Mexican war occurred. This war had triggers with disagreements on the ideal of Manifest Destiny and major actions by President Polk that led the United States into attempting to annex Texas. Texas at that time was independent and was not part of Mexico nor America. Mexico wanted Texas to stay neutral that they threatened a war to the United States if they tried anything to attempt anything. Unfortunately, the United States did not really care by going forward with the annexation and land conquering, sparking a war with Mexico. So the Mexican war began and nothing was ever the same. The annexation of Texas was the biggest reason as to what started the tension and the foreseen war between Mexico and the United States. When Texas gained its independence from Mexico, the United States considered it as open land where as Mexico thought of it as its own. It started with President Tyler, who did not want Britain to gain Texas, therefore proposed an annexation. Not only would the gain of Texas add more land to the United States, but the south wanted it as well because it would be considered as another slave state. Mexico threatened war if Texas was annexed but once part of it was they did nothing about it, leaving tension between the United States and Mexico. Everyone has the right to negotiate, but coming up with an agreement between Mexico and the United ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the novel, Flight to Canada by Ishmael Reed, manipulation is used by two characters, President Abraham Lincoln, and a slave named Uncle Robin. This novel is set in the middle of the United States civil war, where aspects of modern time like planes have been incorporated into the setting. The plot of Flight to Canada, begins with three slaves quest to get to Canada where they can be freed from slavery. Their owner, Arthur Swille, desperately wants them back. One slave who ran, Raven Quickskill, is one of the few slaves to know how to read and write and write well. The Union is broke and has many debts but still obviously needs to continue fighting the war. Therefore, President Lincoln must go behind enemy lines, and meet with Mr. Swille, the wealthiest man in the country. Lincoln is in the odd position of assuming a more submissive role even though he is the President of the country. This is how his strategy starts out. Lincoln is going to compliment and treat Swille like he is head and shoulders better than Lincoln, even if he doesn t believe that. The first thing that comes out of Lincolns mouth to Swille is setting the tone for the conversation: Mr. Swille, it s a pleasure, he says, extending his hand to Swille, who sits behind a desk rumored to have been owned by Napoleon III. I m a small time lawyer and now I find myself in the room of the mighty... (Reed 23). Lincoln here brings himself lower than Swille by reminding him that he is just a small time lawyer from Illinois. It is a tactic that for most people would be taken and realized what he is trying to do but not mentioned. Swille however, isn t that type of man: Cut the yokel dokel, Lincoln, I don t have all day. What s on your mind Swille rejects Lincoln s hand, at which Lincoln stares hurt (Reed 23). Lincoln is seemingly surprised by Swilles actions, or perhaps realizing he will have to change tactics to achieve what he wants. In either case, his strategy must change. A fighter is what Swille wants to see, a challenge perhaps. Mr. Swille travels all over the world having people treat him like a god, and what he wants is someone to show that they have qualities that can help Swille. Lincoln doesn t come out this way until after Swille has threatened and made jokes of everything Lincoln has from his wife to his political ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the novel, The Stranger, by Albert Camus, we watch this character change from a carefree man who loves being alive and free to a man who is imprisoned for a meaningless murder he commits but who eventually finds happiness in his fate. During the first half of the novel, we see many examples of Meursault s freedom and how he exercises it. He does what he wants, when he wants to with no regard to how he affects the people around him. Meursault lives his life with no restrictions. He is his own boss. Relaxed and free. In the opening of the novel, Meursault receives word that his mother has passed away. While keeping her vigil, he smokes a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He acts so indifferent about her death that, by that evening, Marie had forgotten all about it. Someone looking in from the outside would think he is heartless, but the thought doesn t even cross his mind. He is blissfully ignorant. The point in which Meursault s freedom is taken from him is when he puts five bullets into a man for no apparent reason. Perhaps the first bullet is understandable, self defense maybe since the man had a knife. But the other four bullets were pointless. During the second half of the book is where we see the most connections to The Myth of Sisyphus. Meursault is imprisoned for the crime he commits. Sisyphus is condemned to ceaselessly rolling a rock to the top of a mountain for his crime. It is in the courtroom, while on trial, that he becomes conscious to the fact that he is a criminal and that all of the people hate him not only for his crime, but also for the way that he lived his life when he was a free man. He states, It was then I felt a stirring go through the room and for the first time I realized I was guilty. It is in this consciousness that it becomes tragic. He finally realizes the whole extent of his wretched condition. Meursault and Sisyphus both have rocks of their own. Sisyphus is literally a rock. Meursault s rock is symbolic. The Continuing Immigration Debate Summary Mark Rosenblum, US IMMIGRATION POLICY SINCE 9/11 Mark Rosenblum s U.S Immigration Policy Since 9/11 does not provide an argument but rather he describes challenges, and identifies questions central to the future of the U.S immigration debate. Overall, it seems that prior to 9/11 it seemed migration negotiations were stalled every time. Whether this was done purposely or is merely a coincidence is my concern. Rosenblum states that migration negotiations going well until 2001, post 9/11 period, when migration negotiations with Mexico collapsed (1). But, can one individual change what everyone thinks? Or, is this just another dent in the barrier? An individual s voice can have an impact, but it cannot change society. A person who has a voice over a certain group of people will impact only those people. Harriet Tubman, for example, had a huge impact on the slave community. She was known as the Moses , leading them to safety. Slave owners did not feel elated at this idea. Their plan was to hunt down and bring back their slaves. • 11. Key Elements For Tissue And Organ Regeneration Introduction Tissue engineering is an interdisciplinary approach that basically replaces, restore the function and regenerate the damaged cell or tissue using biological substitutes. Succinctly, extracellular matrix (ECM) in human tissue is a key element for tissue and organ regeneration. It provides a convenient environment for the cellular attachment, growth and migration stimulate by specific signals. This solid matrix has a complex mixture of structural and functional proteins that serve as a reliable source of nutrient for the cells. ECM also associated with the cell behaviour, tissue differentiation, organisation and neovascularisation. In tissue engineering, the suitable scaffolds are use to act as an ECM analogue (1). The various roles and complicated composition of ECM become a great challenge for the scaffolds to mimic the native ECM in repairing the diseased or damaged tissue. Thus, it is important to develop the ideal scaffolds with optimal properties and architecture since its mechanical characteristics will greatly affect the activity of cell adhesion, proliferation and differentiation. Apparently, the biomaterial used in fabrication of scaffolds may influence its significant features, such as biodegradability, bioactivity and porosity. The bioactivity, including cell adhesion, cell alignment and interaction between scaffolds and cellular components could be enhanced by adding the biological cues onto the biomaterials. Besides that, it is also important for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Ideas Of Einstein And Freud Mr. Schneiders World History Kyndall Roberts Feb. 12, 2015 Section 1: Question 3: The ideas of Einstein and Freud were revolutionary because of how they shaped faith of reasoning and science. Einstein shook the ideas and laws that Isaac Newton had formerly created about motion and gravity. In 1905, Albert Einstein came up with the theory of relativity, which stated that although the speed of light is constant, other things like space and time are not. He believed that speed and time can change when it is measured relatively to an object moving near the speed of light about 186,000 miles/hour. These ideas had implications not only for science, but for the world. There was uncertainty and relativity that replaced the sense of security that came with Isaac Newton s laws. Einstein and Isaac s point of views were very different. Sigmund Freud had ideas that were as revolutionary as Einstein s. Freud treated psychology patients. From his experiences, he constructed a theory about the human mind. He came up with the idea that a part of the human mind is irrational, but it is now called the unconscious. In the unconscious, many drives existed, such as pleasure seeking drives that the conscious mind was unaware of. Freud s ideas actually weakened faith in reasoning. By the 1920 s, Freud s ideas had developed widespread influence. Question 4: Literature in the 1920 s was affected by World War 1. The brutality of the war caused philosophers and writers to question ideas about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Though few of the mergers and acquisitions might be helpful for the company and be profitable as well there are always few risks and failures that come with the process. According to a study the company has only 50% chance of success when it comes to merger and acquisition. But still very big companies do the merger because they can become bigger by combing with their competitors and end their competition. But sometimes these mergers are expected to create a monopoly in the sector because they will dominate the whole sector and cause a biased decision for the customers. This case talks about the merger between two of the biggest office supplies companies Staples and Office Depot. Through this case we will discuss on the merger between the two big companies created a tension of monopoly and whether or not it will be profitable for both sides of the merger. This Mega Merger created a sense of stress in the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) also forcing it to file a case against both the parties for creating a monopoly in the business. After the first impression, some people accuse the company becoming an anti Christmas corporation. They also points out that the Red Cup serves as a symbol of Satan s presence. As a result, many express their displeasure on social media, along with the hashtag boycottStarbucks. At the same time, some consumers believe that others react excessively toward the Red Cup. In particular, naming and belittling Starbucks for introducing a simplistic cup. • 18. Jonathan Watt s Defoe s Transition From Literary... 1a. According to Watt, Defoe s transition from literary traditionalism to true individual experience mostly distinguishes Defoe from earlier writers. Defoe also rejects the traditional plot series, which sets him apart from writers like Chaucer, Spenser, Shakespeare, and Milton, who accepted the general premise of their times that, since Nature is essentially complete and unchanging in records, whether scriptural, legendary or historical, constitute[s] a definitive repertoire of human experience (366). Meaning that Defoe did not just reiterate plots from previous literature, which turn out to be romanticized versions of historical legends and periods in history. 1b. I believe that Watt is accurate and that Defoe distinguishes his writing from others by making an emphasis on the individual character. Most of the earlier writers based their prose around a test of faith or trial that the protagonist either passes or fails. Most of these characters signify bigger themes, such as Una in The Faerie Queen, who stood for the one true faith of England, and other characters were based around significant people in feudal system such as Queen Elizabeth I, or Saint George: Patron of England. Every part of the stories signified something more significant, whereas Defoe takes his novel and tells the story of Moll Flanders. 2a. According to Watt, this dominant theory of the time period continued to incline toward the use of traditional plots (367) in written works. Defoe s literary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many In people would say that although it is a good thing to do, one is not obligated to give anything. Other people would say that if a person has more than he needs, then he should donate a portion of what he has. Peter Singer, however, proposes a radically different view. His essay, Famine, Affluence, and Morality , focuses on the Bengal crisis in 1971 and claims that one is morally obligated to give as much as possible. His thesis supports the idea that We ought to give until we reach the level of marginal utility that is, the level at which, by giving more, I would cause as much suffering to myself or my dependents as I would relieve by my gift (399). He says... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So he is saying If a person saw a child drowning in a lake, he would be morally obligated to try and save him. Any inconvenience caused from wading into the lake would mean nothing compared to letting the child die. Now, if a person would be morally wrong not to save the child who is geographically near him, would he not be obligated to save the child in another country? Is having thousands of miles between the giver and the one in need a good enough reason for him not to have the same obligation to help? The clear conclusion is that, although there are far more people in dire need than one could ever help, one must give as much as he can. One must provide so much support where, by giving more, he would be worse off than the receiver of his gift. While this argument uses reason as it s primary means of convincing, the emotional aspect of it is also very important. The essay attempts to capture the readers emotions by putting them in the situation of seeing a child drown, there is no normal person who wouldn t help. When he asks about providing famine relief to the people in other countries, the reader feels guilt, which strengthens the essay s argument. In the second stanza he extends the wish to be alone to its logical terminus, death. He suggests, then, that in spite of our social involvement we all have a death wish within us and that immersing ourselves in the social round is harmful because it is a mechanism we use to prevent ourselves from coming to terms with death and our desire for it; i.e. we kill our natural awareness towards death and the temporal nature of life through indulgence in social traps. Cranial or eye muscle damage was not evident since he was able to move the eye downward and inward straight and rotary movement (Jarvis, 2012). The external eye structures are intact with no lesions; there is no drainage from the lacrimal gland. Ears There is no mass, lesions scaling, discharge or tenderness on palpation of the Pinna. The tympanic membrane would be inspected with an otoscope, if I had one. I would expect the normal membrane to be gray, with no discharge. Whispers were heard bilaterally with no difficulty. Nose No external lesions noted, although he does have some facial acne. Cranial nerve VII seems to be intact since the cheeks, lips and eyebrows are symmetric bilaterally. Nares are patent as evidenced by good air passage on both sides when the other side is closed. The internal mucosa is pink with no lesions or tenderness. There is no tenderness in the maxillary sinuses. Mouth and Throat The mucosa and gingivae are pink, no lesions or bleeding. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Egg Chromatography Lab Introduction Chromatography is an experimental technique used to separate a substance into its components based upon their polarities or non polarities. The purpose of this experiment was to use thin layer chromatography to separate lipid molecules in an egg yolk sample. Silica thin layer chromatography (TLC) plates were used along with the egg yolk sample and standard solutions of the three lipids that were extracted from the egg yolk. Very small portions of the analytes were added to the plate and placed into the chromatography chamber, which was filled with a solution of chloroform, methanol, and water. The egg yolk separated into its components, and the standard solutions also moved according to polarities. The hydroxyl groups on the plate due to the silica hydrogen bond with polar molecules, preventing them from moving as far as nonpolar molecules. 1 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The TLC plate was also used to confirm that these lipids are present in egg yolk by comparing the dots to the dots from the egg yolk sample that separated on the TLC plate. Retention factors were calculated to compare how far each dot traveled based on polarity. This lab is relevant to the discussion of polar and nonpolar molecules, the brief overview of chromatography in the textbook, and discussions on hydrogen bonding. In the field of biochemistry, chromatography is frequently used for DNA fingerprinting, quality analysis in the food industry, diagnosis of diseases and disorders, polymer synthesis, and even the Ebola immunization. ... The Discussion of Homosexuality in Comic Books The discussion of homosexuality in comic books has a long history, reaching back to 1954, when German American psychiatrist Frederick Wertham published Seduction of the Innocent, a book that warned about the negative effect of popular literature. The book was a minor bestseller and was taken seriously at the time, creating alarm in parents with the claim that reading the crime , superhero and horror comics that contain descriptions of violence, sex, drug use and other adult themes, children will be encouraged to similar behavior (Wikipedia). More than five decades later the song remains the same; not much seems to have changed in society s mentality. Parents fear that violent video games will make their children into raging psychopaths,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are Movies and TV shows addressing the issue in one way or another, experimenting with LGBTQ characters and watching the reaction of fans, testing the waters. Twelve states have approved same sex marriage legislation in the US, celebrities and sportsmen are coming out to the public, with Pope Francis statement that gays and lesbians must be accepted with respect, compassion and sensitivity , even the Catholic Church seems to have turned around and has pressed the reset button on the Roman Catholic Church s treatment of LGBT people (Chad Griffin), and in spite of all this, just in the past 3 years, there have been more than forty registered fatal hate crimes targeting gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. The comic book industry did not ignore the issue either, and with all the other major media, comics have made a statement; with all the superheroes that are literally coming out of the closet, the fact that just this past year, there have been two same sex marriages on the covers of the Astonishing X men and Archie, two big brand comic books, and that the first transgender comic book character, the roommate of Batgirl, Alysia Yeoh, was introduced, this supposed cult medium turned into one of the strongest advocates for gay rights and marriage equality (Zachary, Esquire blogs). It might seem like homosexual characters are a new concept in comic books, though in fact they appeared as early as the 60s and 70s in all sorts of European, Asian, ... It is important for me as a pre service teacher to be aware of how my personal background, experiences and ideas about identity will influence my teaching philosophy to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. My ability to understand the cultural identities of all students in my class is necessary for addressing their individual needs. Giving my students the opportunity to participate in such protocols and be exposed to aboriginal terms of reference means that they come to understand an aboriginal worldview, which is an important step towards reconciliation. In collaboration with the Aboriginal Education Officer (AEO) and the families of the students in my class, I look to explicitly incorporate protocols into the daily activities and strengthen links to the community. I look to remove the separation that exists between the two cultures and allow my students to become sensitised at a very young age to the Indigenous culture. In a similar way to the efforts of the first school of Annabella, who sought to bridge the gap between the two cultures by teaching the local language first then English, I would look to incorporate the local Dharug language into the classroom (Groome and Garner, 1993). By incorporating Yunkaporta s 8 ways of learning, specifically the story sharing and community links aspects, I help to connect learning to real life purposes and contexts (Christie 1986, as cited in Yunkaporta n.d., p.11). Even something as simple as the design of my classroom can reflect Indigenous culture by having a group time mat in the middle of the room to replicate the yarning process, where everyone can share knowledge and ... The Importance Of The Canadian Charter Of Rights The Canadian Charter of Rights has been entrenched in the Constitution Act of 1982 since 1982 and affected the lives of countless Canadians ever since it was passed, with most if not all of the effects being positive. This can be proven by the fact that the act that the act has only faced two amendments in the 35 years it has been in effect. Furthermore, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms has five components; Fundamental Freedoms, Democratic Rights, Mobility Rights, Legal Rights, and Equality Rights. All of these were designed to make sure that Canadians face no discrimination, and are not denied any basic rights. This can be seen by seeing how much the quality of life for Canadians has increased over the time the Charter has been embedded in the Constitution, by how much the Charter actually does protect the rights of Canadians. The first way that the Charter has improved the quality of life for Canadians is through its section on Fundamental Freedoms, it ensures that Canadians are guaranteed the right to express their opinions, choose their own religion, organize peaceful meetings, and associate with any person or group. These four subsections have gone miles in improving the comfort Canadians now experience, starting off with the right to express your opinions, this has been a big problem for First Nations when they were taken into residential schools and were not allowed to express their opinions on whether they wanted to be a part of them, as in if they did they would ...
