got a seemingly innocent gift for his father s birthday, a pup, a gift that would service his father
until the day he died. This personalistic gift unlike Charles materialistic gift of a knife, for which

Gregor s family found his attempts to talk annoying and irritating. An inability to communicate
easily is a huge blow for someone trying to retain some humanity.
One great difference between the two men is that Merrick was able to communicate if he had
something to write on, whereas Gregor was not able to communicate well at all. Merrick wrote
letters to people who he had met and notes to the doctors and staff at the hospital where he spent
most of his adult life (Treves 1). Gregor tried to communicate by pushing things around, like his
food, and separating the stuff he wanted from what he didn t, so his sister would know what to

food accordingly, this made it more difficult for him when she stopped picking up on his hints

I wasn t able to look at the positive aspects of a relationship with someone who passed until I was
able to start to really grieve their death and the loss of the future with them before I was able to
truly look at the positive aspects of our relationship and the memories of. It was too painful to look

As an author, it is typically harder to create suspense, but Doyle does an excellent job. With the
use of red herrings, superstition, cliffhangers, and more, Doyle creates an atmosphere of tension
and suspense. An example of one of these techniques is seen through the red herring: Selden. As
soon as the word got out that Selden had broken out of jail, he was easily taken as a suspect to
readers. However, In the movie, Selden causes more suspense by breaking into Baskerville Hall

Attwood creates even more. One major asset that Attwood has is sound effects and noise. This is

example, when the scene about Selden escaping happens, sound effects such as sirens and yelling,
make his escape more suspenseful. In the same way, Attwood uses sound effects for things such as
the howling of the hound on the moor, or the screaming of victims. Although Attwood creates a lot

the most effective way of creating suspense is through character actions and nature. In both the
movie and the novel, in the resolution, a wave of fog appears before the hound arrives. In the
