Lion King And Hamlet Similarities
The second similarity is the correlation between Hamlet s uncle Claudius and Simba s uncle
named Scar (Gavin). Both of these characters are the brothers of the king (Zeffirelli, Hamlet)
(Allers, The Lion King). In the film Hamlet and Allers s The Lion King, both characters take a
throne that is not rightfully theirs. These characters are jealous, power hungry villains. These two
antagonists are very much hated by everyone that has seen the play or movie. During Hamlet,
Claudius steals his brother s throne, marries his sister in law, and tries to kill his nephew Hamlet
(Zeffirelli). In a similar fashion for The Lion King, Scar kills Mufasa, takes his brother s place in
the palace, and orders his servants to kill Simba(Allers). While these two... Show more content on

Both Claudius and Scar betray their kingdom as well as their brother. This betrayal occurs when
Claudius kills Elder Hamlet and Scar kills Mufasa. Not only do these characters kill their brother,
they also steal his throne and force the rightful heir away. Not only is this murder is distasteful
from every angle, but they betray their nephew by forcing him into exile. The feeling of being an
exiled child haunts both characters (Gavin). This causes an immediate hatred when Hamlet and
Simba discover the truth about what happened to their fathers. This betrayal is very evident in each
story and is impossible to not see. This theme also caused revengeful actions for Hamlet and

Some weeks ago, I was video chatting with my friends off my iPhone. When my grandma
walked in, she stared at me. She seemed amazed at the fact that a tiny, 4 inch device is capable of
doing marvelous things, such as letting me video chat with anyone at any given moment. To a
teenager now, being able to do things such as video chat is normal. To people like my grandma, it
s revolutionary. Currently I have an iPhone 5, an Xbox 360, and a laptop; I am a strong believer
that communicationis very important to us. It is clear that everyone in today s society people use
some sort of communication. Communication has been around for as long as we can remember and
it has affected society drastically. According to Webster s Dictionary, communication

It s hard to believe how drastic the cell phone has evolved. It s hard to believe that when the first
cell phone was made it was only capable of making simple phone calls, only if you have signal.
Today, phones such as the iPhone 6 and the Galaxy S5, are capable of doing infinite things, such
as texting, long distant call, GPS, locate anything, surf the web, download countless of apps
filled with games, video chat, and many more. Today s cell phone could even speak to you,
understand you, and whatever you command, it does. Yes the cell phone is such a power tool;
however, it didn t start off like that. When the cell phone was accessible for the US, people were

Prehensile Tailed Skink ( Corucia Zebrata )
Prehensile Tailed Skink
(Corucia zebrata)
The prehensile tailed skink (Corucia zebrata) is an endemic tropical squamate that is found
inhabiting all major islands of the Solomon archipelago in the Southwest Pacific. It is considered to
be one of the largest known skinks and has many common names such as Solomon Island skink,
giant skink, monkey tail skink, Solomon Island prehensile tailed skink, or simply, Corucia. And just
as the common name indicates, C. zebrata possesses the interesting adaptation of a prehensile tail
(Vosjoli, 1993). The Latin name, zebrata, is indicative of their zebra stripe ornamentation. The
genus Corucia is monotypic and only consists of C.z. zebrata and a subspecies population, C.z.
alfredschmidti, also known as the Northern prehensile tailed skink that inhabits Bougainville Island
in the Solomon islands (Harmon, 2002). There is an unfortunate small amount of information
known about this species in the wild, but what has been studied and is known, has led to the belief
that this is somewhat of an unusual and ecologically unique species among the Scincidae (Hagen,
Evolution and Ecology of the Prehensile Tailed Skink, 2011).
Physical Description and Adaptations Corucia zebrata have been shown to exhibit some degree of
sexual dichromatism and dimorphism, however the differences are not highly distinctive between
the sexes in allowing for easy interpretation (Vosjoli, 1993). C. zebrata have large cylindrical

Beneficial Management Contributions
Every organization begins with a dream. A dream created by entrepreneurial minds at work.
When an organization is put together a person s vision is coming to life. The same vision
foreseen in their dreams is becoming a reality. This is amazing but can be very scary as well as
there are numerous risks involved that can bring on the worse of out comes; a shattered vision. A
valuable key to ensure the vision does not crumble at it s very foundation is management.
Management is the process of working with people and resources to accomplish organizational
goals ( Bateman, and Snell). Now we must ask, is there one fool proof management blueprint to
guide the way to an organization s inevitable success? As wonderful as that would be... Show more

Douglas McGregor was born in 1906. In McGregor s earlier years he worked with his grandfather
at his institute for transient laborers in Detroit. During this time McGregor formed a close
relationship with Abraham Maslow and was greatly influenced by his work. He became influenced
by scientific management and thought in terms of the larger picture. During this time McGregor
developed his greatest contribution to management, the X Y theory.
The X Y theory is included in organization behavior. Organizational behavior studies and identifies
management activities that promote employee effectiveness through an understanding of the
complex nature of individual, group, and organizational process. (Bateman, Snell). The X Y
theory says that there are two types of managers differentiating in management style. Theory X
says the average employee dislikes working and if at all possible, would avoid working. Because
of their nonexistent desire to work, management must apply force with threats of punishment to
enable the employee to work towards organizational goals. Management must continually observe
the worker to ensure they are doing as they are told. Theory Y says that people will willingly
apply themselves in their work. They will apply self control and

How The Romans Built Aqueducts
Ancient Romans have had a huge impact on influencing modern civilizations, through several
factors ranging from architecture to literature to engineering. The Romans engineering skills
contributed greatly to the establishment of their civilization. Their bridges and roads tied their
empire together and made travel easier especially for merchants and soldiers. But it is the Romans
water system of that set them as an advanced and modern civilization. The Romans were very
skilled architects to an extent that some of their work, such as aqueducts, is still in existence. Some
aqueducts are even still in use by modern day societies to supply fountains with water. An aqueduct
is a water supply or navigable channel constructed to convey water. Since water is one of life s most
important necessities, the ancient Romans built aqueducts in all parts of their empire making it
way easier to transport and provide the empire with water. The water provided by the aqueducts was
used for different purposes which include mining, processing, manufacturing, agriculture, supplying
public baths, latrines, fountains and private households with water. Among the most notable water
systems... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Around 310 BC, the Romans built the first aqueduct which was an underground aqueduct about 16
km long called Aqua Appia that supplied the city s main trading centre and cattle market. Aqua
Appia discharged at very low pressure and at a more or less constant rate, making water supply to
get to households still impossible. But once aqueduct water was brought to the city s higher
elevations, well appointed public baths got widespread throughout the city, and drinking water
could be delivered to public fountains. Public baths and fountains became distinctive features of the
Roman Empire, and in particular the baths became important social

Piaget Cognitive Theory
Piaget s Theory used in Mathematics Today Piaget took an interest in children s cognitive
development and came up with his theory of Cognitive Development; the Cognitive Development
theory consists of the four stages: Sensorimotor, Preoperational, Concrete Operational, and Formal
Operational (Ghazi Ullah, 2016, pg. 1). Jean Piagets cognitive theory has a wide array of effects on
children s learning in mathematics that are applicable to teaching today. Teachers today use
different strategies and teaching methods based on what stage children are in. I will discuss each of
the stages and how teachers use them in math today. The first stage is the sensorimotor stage, which
takes place between the age of zero to two, and is where children understand perception and
awareness of the environment through physical actions and the manipulation of objects (Ghazi
Ullah, 2016, pg. 1). In the sensorimotor stage, the most important thing to understand is the idea of
object permanence and understanding that even when the child cannot see the object they are still
able to find it. Also, in this stage they begin to associate numbers with objects and they understand
counting. In order to enhance a child s math basis teachers are giving activities that include
counting. Asking question like Who has more? and Are there enough? , start the foundation for
young children to not only understand these things in the classroom but even more so in the real
world. Another way teachers enhance

Argumentative Essay About Golf Courses
Golf is a game of skill. To be an avid golfer, there are so many techniques and skills to master.
Even the slightest movement can change your hit from hitting it straight onto the green to slicing
the ball into the trees. There are very few that are masters at this sport. In Los Angeles, California
there are 10 golfcourses, while in Oxford, Ohio there is only one. These amount of golf courses can
correlate to many events. Spatiotemporal is relating to space and time qualities. There are several
spatiotemporal arguments against the private golf courses being exempt from the increasing
property and some individuals are not pleased.
In Los Angeles, the property taxes are based on the highest and best use of that property, so if
someone bought a piece of land, the property tax would be the same as if someone was building an
apartment complex. The property taxes are very large in Los Angeles, California. Golf courses
though, have a different situation with property taxes. Instead of property taxes having the highest
and best use, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They all have ownership in the course and if someone dies, the share gets passed down to
another member. Even though there is a change is shares of the course, golf courses are said to
be not have changed ownership, since there is not more than 50% of a change in share at one
time. Golf courses are exempt from this changing property values due to only a small part of
ownership changing at one time. In the podcast, there was an example of something similarly to
this change. If a ship replaces boards after they break, is it still the same ship? The ship is still the
same, but with new parts to it. Kind of like how the golf course ownership is. The ownership is
changed gradually throughout decades, but not at one time so the golf course is still the same golf
course as before. There are many arguments to go against this that could possibly, one day, change
the property taxes for golf courses in Los

The Education System in the UK is presently experiencing a major transform which has no

All pupils in England, excluding those at self governing (i.e. private or fee paying) schools and the
recent academies are necessary to remain to the National Curriculum. Northern Ireland and Wales
mainly pursue the National Curriculum needs. United Kingdom independently addresses the needs

Climate Change Is Caused By Carbon Emissions
Climate change is resulted due to unrestrained pollution. Carbon emissions that enter the earth s
atmosphere have a very dangerous effect on our environment, economy and wellbeing. This major
problem earth is facing can be fixed if we all work as one.
Climate change is caused by carbon emissions being trapped in earth s atmosphere. The pollution
that is trapped in our atmosphere then heats up changing earth s climate patterns. The act of burning
fossil fuels for energy has the biggest contribution to climate change. Scientists are confident that
global temperatures will continue to rise for many years to come, all because of human activities.
The intergovernmental panel on climate change also known as the IPCC came to a conclusion that
it is 90% probable that the globe is warming due to human activities over the past 250 years. The
IPCC, has a large depth of knowledge with having over one thousand three hundred scientists. The
IPPC scientists predict a temperature rise of 2.5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit over the next century.
Whilst the climate changes and the globe warms there are several major effects that is having a
large impact on our environment, for example the polar ice caps. Each summer due to climate
change the polar ice cap is melting due to warm water. Sea ice reflects heat from the sun, while
water adsorbs it. Less ice means more heat which means less ice. Temperatures are rising drastically
with our last decade being the hottest on record.
With the polar ice caps

Henry The Alligator Snapping Turtle Short Story
Twisted Reality
Henry the Alligator Snapping Turtle was not fast, but he was really stubborn. So when the cocky
hare, Celer, had dared him to try to race him, after hurting a friend no less, Henry knew he had to
end this Celer s rule, in any way necessary. Henry accepted the challenge much Celer s amusement.
The race was set to be exactly one week from that moment. When Henry left the courtyard he had
been in, his friends quickly (for turtles anyway) ran toward him. Joey, a large, African Spurred
Tortoise, was the first to catch up.
You re crazy, you ll never win Joey said

anyone will hurt me or my friends again. Henry won the race.
Henry did what he felt like was a run over to his friends, but they ran. He shouted,
Wait up guys, come on.... Please his voice slowly drifted off as he realized they knew they had
left him behind. They were afraid of Henry. They ll be back, they won t stay scared.... Will they?
On his way home Henry managed to say something to Shelly.
Hey, Shelly what s up Henry asked, hopeful
Nothing Shelly said decisively, and she increased her pace. Henry had to run to keep up with Shelly.
Please, Shelly, why do you resent me all the sudden? Henry said, though he suspected the answer.
Because you bit someone s leg in 2! That s not okay! Shelly was practically shouting by the end of
this statement. Henry wasn t sure how to respond to that, it was true. His plan had gone so well

Existentialism In Shakespeare s Hamlet And Rosencrantz And...
It is human nature to question the meaning of life and for the individual to question their own
purpose. The phrase fate or free will often comes up when questioning ones purpose in life. Is life
predetermined and the individual has no control? Or rather can the individual take charge and
choose their own path in life. Existentialists believe that humans are born first and that life is
meaningless until the individual defines their own purpose. It is the belief that one s existence
precedes one s essence. In both the late 16th century play Hamletand Rosencrantz and Guildenstern
are Dead(a play within a play based on Hamlet) ideas of existentialismare explored. The later play
builds upon the ideals developed in Hamlet and confirms that Hamlet is indeed an existential play.
This is evident as the main characters Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are more object like than
human and can therefore be considered existential objects, which then forces readers to look at
Hamlet as an existential hero. This is because Rosencrantz and Guildenstern exist only in the
present and lack free will, in contrast to Hamlet. Both Rosencrantz and Guildenstern question the
absurdity of life and death and what it all means, much like how Hamlet explored the absurd. Tom
Stoppard meticulously crafted the two minor characters in Shakespeare s Hamlet and put them
center stage in his own play and gave them existential object qualities, which was contrast to Hamlet
s character and confirms the idea

Confucianism and Filial Piety in Chinese Culture Essay...
Duc Hoang
Professor Sandra Lee
IQS 125
26 May 2008 Confucianism and Filial Piety in Chinese culture Western people might wonder why
once upon a time in China, choosing a wife or husband for one s life was not his or her decision
but their parents , or one must mourn for their deceased parents at least three years. The answer is
about the definition of morality. Different conceptions of morality have guided different cultures in
different directions regarding a central question of human existence: Does morality require filial
piety (or filial obligation) of children toward their parents? Confucianism, which remains influential
in Chinese culture, answers an emphatic yes , while Western culture s response is ambiguous, to...

The concept may appear simple as parents loving their children, spouses and siblings getting along
well, friends helping each other, children caring for their parents. Differently in the West, most
social unrest is the result of the breakdown of family structure, violence caused by friends or
spouses having a disagreement. The fourth basic principle of Confucian thought is Te, which has
been translated to mean power. According to Confucius, only if a leader can set a moral example,
can he be successfully followed by his subjects. The final principle of Confucian thought is Wen,
which can be accurately described as the aesthetic and spiritual expressions which are necessary to
sustain culture. In addition, Li refers Confucius rules of propriety which has shape much of family
values. In Confucianism, propriety is defined as the quality of being proper, of conforming to
contemporary uses and customs. These rules practically extend to every aspect of ancient Chinese
lives. There are expectations of proper conduct inherent not just in personal familial affairs but in
their dealings with humanity as a whole. The same expectations that they have in their families are,
in fact, present in practically all institutions and organizations. Li also mentions Confucius
conception of the man of humanity simply as an extension of his thoughts regarding propriety. The
man of humanity varies in his behavior according to the

During my post graduate studies at The Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Personal and

and problem solving. I had many thoughts going ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When students reflect upon their learning, they engage in a potentially transformative act of
responding to, connecting with, and analyzing an experience, event, process, or product. Reflection
is thus one way to bridge the separate thought and action: an opportunity for students to describe
their internal processes, evaluate their challenges, and recognize their triumphs in ways that would
otherwise remain unarticulated (Allan Driscoll 2014). Being a reflective learner would therefore
help me be more proactive in applying my existing knowledge to create new ideas and improve my
understanding of course material. Reflective learning would also have a positive impact on my
future career since I would be able to develop my learning and thinking abilities by building on
the critical evaluation of my past learning experiences and applying them to my work. I believe
this would make me self aware and give me the ability to identify and address my strengths and
weaknesses. I therefore agree with the argument by (Moon, 2002) that reflection improves the
depth and relevance of individual learning (Moon, 2000 cited by Trehan, 2008). If I had no
knowledge of effective learning skills, I would have been stressed out whenever I come across an
academic, social or professional challenge which would have had a negative impact on my
performance in the long run.

Case, for example, having once been a talented console cowboy, is now a useless, washed up has
been. The cyberspace technology that Case identified with and lived for, was suddenly stripped
away from him. He had become dependent on the trill of using the technology for his own
advantages, unable to utilize and benefit from it any more, he is now lost, miserable and feels
imprisoned in his own flesh. For Case, who d lived for the bodiless exultation of cyberspace, it
was the Fall. In the bars he d frequented as a cowboy hotshot, the elite stance involved a certain
relaxed contempt for the flesh. The body was meat. Case fell into the prison of his own flesh
(Gibson, 1984, p. 3). Case would do anything to get back the access of using the technology that
he has become accustomed and extremely dependent on, even if it meant giving up his own free
will. Gibson foresaw this as a possibility in what could happen in the future with technology and
what is actually happening now. In the real 21st century world we currently live in, technology
has become more than just a tool, it has become a part of us as we rely on it literally every day.

Rites Of Passage Analysis
Think of a monumental time in your life. Your monumental time in your life is probably different
to an Apache girl, Dachina, and the main character, Martin, in a story the medicine bag. In
Dachina s rite of passage is doing by doing a four day tradition to become a women. During the
four day she has to do stuff like, dance for ten hours straight. Then, in Martin s rite of passagehis
grandpa comes to give him the medicine bag. During this, Grandpa is dying so he has to give
Martin the medicine bag before he dies. In my essay I explain, the similarities and differences
between the two rites of passage. I also explain, the advantages and disadvantages between video
and text.
There are a lot of similarities and differences between the medicine bag and the apache girl. To start
off, a similarity of these two rites of passage are that they are both about a monumental time in the
apache girl, Dachina, and the main character, Martin, in the medicine bag. Like the Dachina s
monumental time in her life is the ritual to become a women. In addition to that, Martin s
monumental time in his life getting the medicine bag from his grandpa. Another similarity
between the two stories it that they both need their family to make the rites of passage possible.
For example, Martin need his grandpa to give him the medicine bag for him to experience getting
the medicine bag. Also, Dachina needs her family to help her to get through the four day ritual

water. After that, suspend the seedin the water with the pointed end up and the broad end down.
The water should cover about an inch of the seed. Next, put the glass in a warm place, but not in

Essay On The Second Amendment
How can the original writing and intent of the second amendment, be relevant in our society today?
The history of the second amendment and the laws that have come after are significant, dating
back to 1971, when the Bill of Rights was ratified to the Constitution. The Bill of Rights is a list
of amendments that gives rights to individuals and limits government power. The second
amendment states A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right
of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. So, the original writing and intent of
the second amendment was geared to militia and military only, and it did not address a specific
type of weapon. The second amendments intent for individual Americans did not come into
question until 1822. A Kentucky court case indicted a man for carrying a sword concealed in a
cane. The man was fined $100.00. But it wasn t until 1856, that the second amendment was
affirmed by the US Supreme Court, that the ownership of a gun was extended to individuals as a
right.

John Stuart Mill said A sacrifice which does not increase or tend to increase the sum total of
happiness, considers as wasted. The definition of Utilitarianism is the ethical doctrine that virtue is
based on utility, and that conduct should be directed toward promoting the greatest happiness of
the greatest number of people. So how does Mill s words and the definition relate back to the
second amendment? The original intent of the second amendment worked in the beginning, as the
militia was the only form of protection that we had to do the greatest amount of good for the most
amount of people, with the least amount of pain. The right to bear arms also worked with duty, as
those who served out of a sense of duty to their country, required that form of protection to do their

ARM WRESTLING WITH MY FATHER BY BRAD MANNING AND SHOOTING DAD BY
SARAH VOWELL
In these two stories, both authors depict the condition of his/her parent/child relationship in spatial
terms and their perception of gradual changes by expressing the hardship of understanding affection
from each of their father during their childhood. Although these two are connected, each author has
different conditions in terms of relationship with their own father and ways of describing to depict
their stories. After analyzing each story, I believe that Brad Manning s Arm Wrestling with My
Father wins over Sarah Vowell s Shooting Dad in terms of sharing with the readers about his
relationship with his father more vividly. Brad Manning s Arm... Show more content on

She shares her thoughts of seeing the gun as a killing machine, while her father sees them as her
favorite tool. This proves that Vowell had always been tough minded the moment she had her
hands down and decided that guns were not for her. Where else, her twin sister, Amy, shares her
father s enthusiasm for firearms, making her feel sort of like and outcast in the family. Later in the
story, Vowell realizes that they do share some similarities, although both of them have totally
different passions. This was shown by her during the event of accompanying her dad to shoot
off his dad s cannon at Montana. She later finds out that she ...was no longer his adversary (SV

An analysis of the global significance of the 2012 London Summer Olympics opening ceremony
The 2012 London Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony (Hereafter LSOOC) was watched by
62,000 spectators in the stadium and an estimated audience of one billion across all five
continents, it was for a few hours the focal point of the world. This essay will conclude that the
live broadcast of this major sporting media event has become economically significant; primarily as
a result of the increasing global commercialisation of sport.
Introduction

the growth of television, especially during its emergence as a global technological ... Show more

This sort of behaviour is motivated in and around public venues that provide large television
screens for viewing pleasure. The manipulation of time and space has led to the accessibility of
television in bars and restaurants which led to the construction of a world enabled public sphere.
Consequently, the event itself becomes a dispersed occasion taking place not only at the sports
arena, but also within homes and other public places.
The Olympics Games
The Olympic Games is a major internationalized media event, it highlights both summer and winter
sports in which athletes from around the world can participate in. The Olympic Games are
considered to be the worlds most notable contest with more than 200 nations competing. The
Summer Olympic Games are held quadrennialy, meaning that the event occurs every four years.
Media events are live television broadcasts. The rise of television has allowed for audiences to act
as a witness to the spectacle. While sporting tournaments offer commentary to shape the spectators
perceptions, Contests and Coronations invite the audience at home and at the live event to act as
partisans and judges. The audience is then obligated to assess the team s performance not only in
the games, but also the display of the opening ceremony, in which the national identity of the
country is unveiled.

Common Violated Expectations Paper
According to Dyer (2013), the most commonly violated expectations are communication, decision
making, and conflict resolution and processes. The communication is a method to deliver messages
between member to member in which communicating is necessary to accomplish the task

members could have used a delivery method that violates the expectation of the member. In the

How Has The Media Affected The Politics Of The Bangladesh...
How has the media affected the politics surrounding the Bangladesh factory disaster? One of the
most deadliest working disasters in recent histpry, the Rana Plaza in Bangladesh collapsed leaving
an estimated 1,300 dead and 2,500 injured. Before collapsing in April 2013, the eight story building
was used mainly by western commercial businesses such as Walmart and Primark. Workers in
Bangladesh are repeatedly pushed by fast production times, to meet the demands of changing
western fashion, leaving worries about structural damage within the building ignored and unheard.
The popularity of western production in Bangladesh raised attention within the western media. This
alerted both companies, customers and both western and eastern governments in order to find who
was responsible for the disaster, causing movement for industrial change. The rise of attention
towards working conditions in Bangladesh encouraged dramatic change but it is debatable if any
has been dramtically successful and why both companies and governments took action before the
media did. The Rana Plaza building became such significant news during 2014 because of the
popular, western brands that were involved with the incident. The severity of the collapse raised
demand for change in Bangladesh s work conditions and the lifestyle of their workers. When
looking at this change, it was most evident within governments and unions outside of Bangladesh.
Debatably, this strong reaction towards the disaster could have

Interracial Advancements
Descent and distribution state statutes as well as supplemental statutes or court rulings can prohibit
or limit inheritance in certain unusual circumstances. Some of these unusual circumstances include:
advancements, renunciation or disclaimer and public policy.
Advancements:
Advancement means that a person can transfer property to expectant heirs with the intention that the
property be deducted from their eventual expected inheritance. In most states, an advancement is
required to be memorialized in a contemporaneous writing. This is a result of problems with
fraudulent claims. The advancement could be a gift or a loan. It depends upon the specific
situation. If it s a gift, it s typically deducted from the amount the heir would otherwise ... Show

The renunciation is a return of the property. A disclaimer is a passing on of the property. Either
one will suffice for an heir who does not want to receive his inheritance. Both usually mean that the
heir will be treated as predeceasing the estate and their inheritance will pass to the next person in
line (according to the statute of descent and distribution).
Public Policy:
Sometimes the state may limit or prohibit an inheritance. This would be done for public policy
reasons. For instance, two or more potential heirs die at the same time (perhaps in the same event
of accident). The difficulty of providing which of the two potential heirs died first, second, third,
etc. will often result in the state s adoption of the Uniform Simultaneous Death Act. Under this
Act, if one potential heir does not clearly survive the other potential hear by a certain amount of
time, both will be treated as having predeceased the other. This results in equal shares of their
jointly owned property being distributed to the heirs of both potential heirs. In addition, public
policy could limit or prohibit inheritance of a person who was involved in an intentionally killing
that left them benefitting from the act, i.e. if the killer would benefit from the victim s death. In
this situation the potential heir or killer would be treated as predeceased. Public policy can also
block inheritance by an illegal alien unless there is a treaty in place between the United States and
the appropriate foreign country that would allow the

Ford Madox Ford is a great English author, who has written many great books like The Good

In this study, there will be a focus on two groups of students: those graduating high school and those
entering high school in the 2017 18 school year. A quantitative study will examine the on track
status of these students over the course of their years in high school. Given these on track rates and
consistency among the rates, the cohort graduation rate will be assessed for numbers of students
who graduate, are accepted to post secondary education, those who enroll and over time persist
toward completion of a college degree. Data will be collected from historic data that is available to
the school in regard to grades, attendance and overall GPA throughout semesters and over time.
Acceptance rate information will be collected through surveys and interviews, and persistence rates
will be collected through the use of interviews and evaluation of student transcripts. The second
group of students will be the recipients of targeted strategies and interventions to support their
remaining on track given their status at the end of their eighth grade year. Qualitative data above
will be supported by survey and interview results of teachers and individual students experiences

Although Greenpeace s campaign in the early 1970s had created positive change for the

Knes260 Assignment 1
KNES260 Paper Assignment #1 The 10 Year Risk for Cardiovascular Disease
By: Kristine Albanes
Using the Framingham risk equation I was able to calculate the ten year risk of developing heart
disease for myself, an older relative (my mother), and a case study whom we will call Danny. I first
inserted my data into the equation (SBP of 115, DBP of 70, non smoker, total cholesterol of 160,
HDL cholesterol of 50, age of 20, and no diabetes) and with that I calculated my ten year risk of
0.036%, approximately 0.04%. Next, I followed the same steps with my mother s information (SBP
of 118, DBP of 75, non smoker, total cholesterol of 185, HDL cholesterol of 55, age of 59, and no
diabetes) and the result showed her 10 year risk was 7.3689%, approximately ... Show more content

However, because Danny does have diabetes, his health is in a poorer state and his risk for
developing cardiovascular disease is increased. Diabetes is defined as having a fasting plasma
glucose value of 7.0 mmol/l (126 mg/dl) or higher. Every year, diabetes claims many lives; for
example, in 2008, diabetes was responsible for 1.3 million deaths all across the world (World Heart
Federation, N.p., n.d). When looking at cardiovascular disease with diabetes, data shows that of
all diabetics who die, 60% of them die as a result of cardiovascular disease (World Heart
Federation, N.p., n.d). Cardiovascular risk increases with raised glucose values. The risk of
cardiovascular events is from two to three times higher in people with type 1 or type 2 diabetes
and the risk is disproportionately higher in women (World Heart Federation, N.p., n.d). From
this we can infer that if my mother or I did have diabetes, it would be likely that that would
increase our risk to a greater degree compared to Danny s risk, because he is a male. Cardiovascular
risk increases with raised glucose values. In addition, within certain age groups, people with
diabetes have a two fold increase in the risk of stroke. Patients with diabetes also have a poorer
prognosis after cardiovascular events compared to people without diabetes. Primary care access to
measurement of blood glucose and cardiovascular risk assessment as well as

Whatever we may do or attempt, despite the embrace and transports of love, the hunger of lips,
we are always alone (Chopin 581.7). In Kate Chopin s story The Awakening, not only is this the
quote that Edna Pontellier identifies with when Mrs. Ratignolle plays piano for her, but it is also
the perfect description of the struggle in which Mrs. Pontellier faces. Though, The Awakening was

She pales in comparison as a mother when set next to the other Creole women on Grand Isle.
When the children of the other mothers need comfort, they run to their mother. However this is not
the case for Mrs. Pontellier. When Edna s children fall, rather than seeking comfort from their
mother, they are more likely to instead get up and carry on playing (567). Try as she might, Edna
is simply not a mother woman , and finds no satisfaction in attempting to be one (567).
Edna s lack of belonging is not limited to inside her own house though. The largest aspect of life
in which Edna fails to find belonging is in the Creole society. Edna is not Creole, but rather
married into it. As she spends her summer immersed in this society, Edna begins to realize just

Women s Suffrage In The Nineteenth Century
Was there really a time in this country when women could not vote? Yes, yes there was. It would
seem inconceivable that the women who lived before the nineteenth century were confined to their
homes and had no freedom to choose the leaders they wanted simply because they could not vote.
Only adult males were able to vote, they had to own property to vote, but they were able to vote.
With educational changes and social reforms, women in the nineteenth century began to seek their

List Three Arguments For Trade Restrictions
Question Three: Your text, on page 629, lists three arguments for trade restrictions. Since
economists do not favor trade restrictions, and this is a course in Managerial Economics, make the
case as an economist against trade restrictions for these three items. Are there any arguments for
trade restrictions that most economists would support? Discuss.
The first argument for trade confinements, is that exchange limitations prevent the dumping of
products in the local market. Dumping occurs when foreign producers offer merchandise at costs
below their generation expense to drive out nearby rivalry. The second contention for exchange
restrictions, is that these aid newly developed industries. The contention is that the extent of the
new commercial enterprise is very minute and there are diseconomies that prevent them from
contending successfully with foreign producers. The third argument, is that the nation should
create commercial ventures that are needed for their protection. The argument is that regardless of
the fact that the expense of generation in these commercial ventures is high, these businesses
should be local so that the nation does not need to depend on remote makers for national safeguard
merchandise.

would start to engage with colleagues I don t see physically, with different custom, belief and
country .My group experience was one I can never forget because we bonded swiftly like we ve
met or known each other for long and even gave nicknames to ourselves within this short time
frame. I am glad that this group assignment was incorporated to course outline because it was
really helpful. I am earnestly looking forward to working with such wonderful and fun people in
further modules. We all used the different social medium to communicate every day and keep
ourselves posted and update with current trend as regards to our task. Personally, I now like
working in a team because my personal communication abilities was drastically improved. I had

Children Effective Communication

quickly and easily. Effective communication is important in developing positive relationships with
everyone at any age and in any setting; how this is achieved varies but its value remains the same.
Every relationship begins with communicationwhether it be written or verbal if it is positive it
starts the relationship off positively and enables both parties to be happy to develop that
relationship.

School Dress Code And Anti Dress Codes Essay
Students have been affected by dress codes for many years. Others, for better or for worse, never
had to deal with them. It has been debated for years between parents, students, and school
systems alike as to whether or not dress codes are appropriate to enforce. This essay will
summarize, make an argument, and analyze Krystal Miller s article on this subject, titled, School
Dress Codes . School Dress Codes is a 1990 article about the issues surrounding various city s
experiences with enforcing a school dress code. In the article, four different high schools in Detroit
are examined, as well as a school in Baltimore, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Depositions from both
pro dress code and anti dress code persons are included. The opposing end includes Mary Louise
Starks, who is in charge of the psychological services for the Detroit school system and says dress
codes are not the solution to the violence, A dress code is a temporary measure that is limited in
scope. Students are committing these crimes because they don t have a sense of power and self
esteem. They steal from their peers to gain control over another person (qtd. in Miller 87). An
example of a pro dress code student from the article is 17 year old Jonathon Johns, a senior at
Dunbar High Schoolin Baltimore, who says, Violence isn t as bad as it was. There s no way to
prove it s all due to the dress code, but I feel it s had a big impact (qtd. in Miller 87). There are

Freedom Is A Fundamental Right Of Individual Autonomy
Freedom of expression has become one of the most valued features of a free and democratic
society. Freedom of speech and expression are a set of valued rights that allow citizens to openly
debate, political issues, political leaders, and government policies. Free flow of information is
evidence of a healthy democracy. Therefore, freedom is a fundamental right of individual
autonomy. However, it is very important to show contrast that there is a vast difference between
the allowance of freedom of expression in in Canada, compared to free speech in the United
States, where all forms freedom of speech is protected under the First Amendment of the Bill of
Rights. (Tarnopolsky 1983) However, under the 1982 Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
under Section 2b, it states that Everyone has the right to the following fundamental freedoms...
thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media
communication. (Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Section 2b) While section 2b is
guaranteed to protect freedom of expression, it is subject to Section 1, which states that all Charter
rights can be struck down within reasonable limits. The Oakes Test has been an important tool that
has been used to determine whether the proportionality and rational of invoking Section 1 was
done under a justifiable and positive measures that outweigh the negatives. In this essay I examine

Navajo Art Essay
Navajo Art The Navajos were an Indian group that lived in the four corners region of the Untied
States. The Navajos were considered very good artists. Their art projects all held symbolism within
them. Whether it was religious, ceremonial, or just simply to help distinguish things, the Navajo art
had symbolic meanings left and right. Color was an important aspect to the Navajos art. For
example, the color blue had a few different meanings. It would represent the South and the Mid day
sun. Because in the south, the sky was almost always clear and blue. The colors Black, White, and
Yellow were also used to represent the remaining three directions. With Black representing the
North, White representing the East, and Yellow representing the West. A common Navajo art

Disease Surveillance And Investigation Efforts
There are eighty communicable diseases that are required to be reported to the Department of
Public Health as part of the disease surveillance and investigation efforts. Every state has a
website on what to report, to who and time frames which it should be done. ( Reportable Diseases
/Conditions in Florida, 2014). It is everyone s duty as a medical professional to follow these rules

times. Anyone at any age can get this disease. Chickenpox is contagious from one to two days
before the rash appears until all blisters have formed scabs. It spreads from person to person by
direct contact or through the air from an infected person s coughing or sneezing. It can also be
transmitted from the fluid from the blisters they cause until they are scabbed. The virus has a ten
to twenty one days of an incubation period. Chickenpox is usually diagnosed by the appearance of
the rash the person has. The chickenpox disease can start without warning or with a fever and a
runny nose. Most common symptoms that people are aware of are the red spots that appear on the
upper trunk, neck, stomach, face and scalp that become itchy (CDC, 2016).

under tremendous stress once they are informed about a defect and then have to decided what
they should do to help fix their child s defect. The day a parent finds out they are pregnant, most
people are very excited. No one ever wants their baby to be born with a birth defect. A special
group of parents must be chosen to have a child with a defect. There are only a few options to
choose from when a parent has to pick what they should do to care their baby. Most parents are
willing for their child to have surgery if the surgery will help, but there is always some who fear
for their baby to undergo surgery. For the parents who are against the options of their baby having

defect. The most common birth defects are a cleft lip or palate and a heart defect. To fix these
common defects surgery is usually an option. To let a child undergo surgery is a very scary
thing to do. When any parent makes the choice of surgery to help fix their child s defect they

Anyone who makes the choice of surgery has to be strong and believe in the doctors and

  • 2. Lion King And Hamlet Similarities The second similarity is the correlation between Hamlet s uncle Claudius and Simba s uncle named Scar (Gavin). Both of these characters are the brothers of the king (Zeffirelli, Hamlet) (Allers, The Lion King). In the film Hamlet and Allers s The Lion King, both characters take a throne that is not rightfully theirs. These characters are jealous, power hungry villains. These two antagonists are very much hated by everyone that has seen the play or movie. During Hamlet, Claudius steals his brother s throne, marries his sister in law, and tries to kill his nephew Hamlet (Zeffirelli). In a similar fashion for The Lion King, Scar kills Mufasa, takes his brother s place in the palace, and orders his servants to kill Simba(Allers). While these two... Not only do these characters kill their brother, they also steal his throne and force the rightful heir away. Not only is this murder is distasteful from every angle, but they betray their nephew by forcing him into exile. The feeling of being an exiled child haunts both characters (Gavin). This causes an immediate hatred when Hamlet and Simba discover the truth about what happened to their fathers. This betrayal is very evident in each story and is impossible to not see. She seemed amazed at the fact that a tiny, 4 inch device is capable of doing marvelous things, such as letting me video chat with anyone at any given moment. To a teenager now, being able to do things such as video chat is normal. To people like my grandma, it s revolutionary. Currently I have an iPhone 5, an Xbox 360, and a laptop; I am a strong believer that communicationis very important to us. • 4. Prehensile Tailed Skink ( Corucia Zebrata ) Prehensile Tailed Skink (Corucia zebrata) The prehensile tailed skink (Corucia zebrata) is an endemic tropical squamate that is found inhabiting all major islands of the Solomon archipelago in the Southwest Pacific. It is considered to be one of the largest known skinks and has many common names such as Solomon Island skink, giant skink, monkey tail skink, Solomon Island prehensile tailed skink, or simply, Corucia. And just as the common name indicates, C. zebrata possesses the interesting adaptation of a prehensile tail (Vosjoli, 1993). The Latin name, zebrata, is indicative of their zebra stripe ornamentation. The genus Corucia is monotypic and only consists of C.z. zebrata and a subspecies population, C.z. alfredschmidti, also known as the Northern prehensile tailed skink that inhabits Bougainville Island in the Solomon islands (Harmon, 2002). There is an unfortunate small amount of information known about this species in the wild, but what has been studied and is known, has led to the belief that this is somewhat of an unusual and ecologically unique species among the Scincidae (Hagen, Evolution and Ecology of the Prehensile Tailed Skink, 2011). Physical Description and Adaptations Corucia zebrata have been shown to exhibit some degree of sexual dichromatism and dimorphism, however the differences are not highly distinctive between the sexes in allowing for easy interpretation (Vosjoli, 1993). During this time McGregor formed a close relationship with Abraham Maslow and was greatly influenced by his work. He became influenced by scientific management and thought in terms of the larger picture. During this time McGregor developed his greatest contribution to management, the X Y theory. The X Y theory is included in organization behavior. Organizational behavior studies and identifies management activities that promote employee effectiveness through an understanding of the complex nature of individual, group, and organizational process. (Bateman, Snell). The X Y theory says that there are two types of managers differentiating in management style. Theory X says the average employee dislikes working and if at all possible, would avoid working. Because of their nonexistent desire to work, management must apply force with threats of punishment to enable the employee to work towards organizational goals. Management must continually observe the worker to ensure they are doing as they are told. Theory Y says that people will willingly apply themselves in their work. They will apply self control and ... • 7. How The Romans Built Aqueducts Ancient Romans have had a huge impact on influencing modern civilizations, through several factors ranging from architecture to literature to engineering. The Romans engineering skills contributed greatly to the establishment of their civilization. Their bridges and roads tied their empire together and made travel easier especially for merchants and soldiers. But it is the Romans water system of that set them as an advanced and modern civilization. The Romans were very skilled architects to an extent that some of their work, such as aqueducts, is still in existence. Some aqueducts are even still in use by modern day societies to supply fountains with water. An aqueduct is a water supply or navigable channel constructed to convey water. Since water is one of life s most important necessities, the ancient Romans built aqueducts in all parts of their empire making it way easier to transport and provide the empire with water. The water provided by the aqueducts was used for different purposes which include mining, processing, manufacturing, agriculture, supplying public baths, latrines, fountains and private households with water. • 8. Piaget Cognitive Theory Piaget s Theory used in Mathematics Today Piaget took an interest in children s cognitive development and came up with his theory of Cognitive Development; the Cognitive Development theory consists of the four stages: Sensorimotor, Preoperational, Concrete Operational, and Formal Operational (Ghazi Ullah, 2016, pg. 1). Jean Piagets cognitive theory has a wide array of effects on children s learning in mathematics that are applicable to teaching today. Teachers today use different strategies and teaching methods based on what stage children are in. I will discuss each of the stages and how teachers use them in math today. The first stage is the sensorimotor stage, which takes place between the age of zero to two, and is where children understand perception and awareness of the environment through physical actions and the manipulation of objects (Ghazi Ullah, 2016, pg. 1). In the sensorimotor stage, the most important thing to understand is the idea of object permanence and understanding that even when the child cannot see the object they are still able to find it. Also, in this stage they begin to associate numbers with objects and they understand counting. In order to enhance a child s math basis teachers are giving activities that include counting. Asking question like Who has more? and Are there enough? , start the foundation for young children to not only understand these things in the classroom but even more so in the real world. Even the slightest movement can change your hit from hitting it straight onto the green to slicing the ball into the trees. There are very few that are masters at this sport. In Los Angeles, California there are 10 golfcourses, while in Oxford, Ohio there is only one. These amount of golf courses can correlate to many events. Spatiotemporal is relating to space and time qualities. There are several spatiotemporal arguments against the private golf courses being exempt from the increasing property and some individuals are not pleased. In Los Angeles, the property taxes are based on the highest and best use of that property, so if someone bought a piece of land, the property tax would be the same as if someone was building an apartment complex. The property taxes are very large in Los Angeles, California. Golf courses though, have a different situation with property taxes. Instead of property taxes having the highest and best use, ... Golf courses are exempt from this changing property values due to only a small part of ownership changing at one time. In the podcast, there was an example of something similarly to this change. If a ship replaces boards after they break, is it still the same ship? The ship is still the same, but with new parts to it. Kind of like how the golf course ownership is. The ownership is changed gradually throughout decades, but not at one time so the golf course is still the same golf course as before. • 14. Climate Change Is Caused By Carbon Emissions Climate change is resulted due to unrestrained pollution. Carbon emissions that enter the earth s atmosphere have a very dangerous effect on our environment, economy and wellbeing. This major problem earth is facing can be fixed if we all work as one. Climate change is caused by carbon emissions being trapped in earth s atmosphere. The pollution that is trapped in our atmosphere then heats up changing earth s climate patterns. The act of burning fossil fuels for energy has the biggest contribution to climate change. Scientists are confident that global temperatures will continue to rise for many years to come, all because of human activities. The intergovernmental panel on climate change also known as the IPCC came to a conclusion that it is 90% probable that the globe is warming due to human activities over the past 250 years. The IPCC, has a large depth of knowledge with having over one thousand three hundred scientists. The IPPC scientists predict a temperature rise of 2.5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit over the next century. Whilst the climate changes and the globe warms there are several major effects that is having a large impact on our environment, for example the polar ice caps. Each summer due to climate change the polar ice cap is melting due to warm water. Sea ice reflects heat from the sun, while water adsorbs it. Less ice means more heat which means less ice. Temperatures are rising drastically with our last decade being the hottest on record. With the polar ice caps ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Existentialism In Shakespeare s Hamlet And Rosencrantz And... It is human nature to question the meaning of life and for the individual to question their own purpose. The phrase fate or free will often comes up when questioning ones purpose in life. Is life predetermined and the individual has no control? Or rather can the individual take charge and choose their own path in life. Existentialists believe that humans are born first and that life is meaningless until the individual defines their own purpose. It is the belief that one s existence precedes one s essence. In both the late 16th century play Hamletand Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead(a play within a play based on Hamlet) ideas of existentialismare explored. The later play builds upon the ideals developed in Hamlet and confirms that Hamlet is indeed an existential play. This is evident as the main characters Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are more object like than human and can therefore be considered existential objects, which then forces readers to look at Hamlet as an existential hero. This is because Rosencrantz and Guildenstern exist only in the present and lack free will, in contrast to Hamlet. Both Rosencrantz and Guildenstern question the absurdity of life and death and what it all means, much like how Hamlet explored the absurd. Tom Stoppard meticulously crafted the two minor characters in Shakespeare s Hamlet and put them center stage in his own play and gave them existential object qualities, which was contrast to Hamlet s character and confirms the idea ... Duc Hoang Professor Sandra Lee IQS 125 26 May 2008 Confucianism and Filial Piety in Chinese culture Western people might wonder why once upon a time in China, choosing a wife or husband for one s life was not his or her decision but their parents , or one must mourn for their deceased parents at least three years. The answer is about the definition of morality. Different conceptions of morality have guided different cultures in different directions regarding a central question of human existence: Does morality require filial piety (or filial obligation) of children toward their parents? The concept may appear simple as parents loving their children, spouses and siblings getting along well, friends helping each other, children caring for their parents. Differently in the West, most social unrest is the result of the breakdown of family structure, violence caused by friends or spouses having a disagreement. The fourth basic principle of Confucian thought is Te, which has been translated to mean power. According to Confucius, only if a leader can set a moral example, can he be successfully followed by his subjects. The final principle of Confucian thought is Wen, which can be accurately described as the aesthetic and spiritual expressions which are necessary to sustain culture. In addition, Li refers Confucius rules of propriety which has shape much of family values. In Confucianism, propriety is defined as the quality of being proper, of conforming to contemporary uses and customs. These rules practically extend to every aspect of ancient Chinese lives. There are expectations of proper conduct inherent not just in personal familial affairs but in their dealings with humanity as a whole. The same expectations that they have in their families are, in fact, present in practically all institutions and organizations. Li also mentions Confucius conception of the man of humanity simply as an extension of his thoughts regarding propriety. The man of humanity varies in his behavior according to the ... When students reflect upon their learning, they engage in a potentially transformative act of responding to, connecting with, and analyzing an experience, event, process, or product. Reflection is thus one way to bridge the separate thought and action: an opportunity for students to describe their internal processes, evaluate their challenges, and recognize their triumphs in ways that would otherwise remain unarticulated (Allan Driscoll 2014). Being a reflective learner would therefore help me be more proactive in applying my existing knowledge to create new ideas and improve my understanding of course material. Reflective learning would also have a positive impact on my future career since I would be able to develop my learning and thinking abilities by building on the critical evaluation of my past learning experiences and applying them to my work. I believe this would make me self aware and give me the ability to identify and address my strengths and weaknesses. I therefore agree with the argument by (Moon, 2002) that reflection improves the depth and relevance of individual learning (Moon, 2000 cited by Trehan, 2008). The history of the second amendment and the laws that have come after are significant, dating back to 1971, when the Bill of Rights was ratified to the Constitution. The Bill of Rights is a list of amendments that gives rights to individuals and limits government power. The second amendment states A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. So, the original writing and intent of the second amendment was geared to militia and military only, and it did not address a specific type of weapon. The second amendments intent for individual Americans did not come into question until 1822. A Kentucky court case indicted a man for carrying a sword concealed in a cane. The man was fined $100.00. Before collapsing in April 2013, the eight story building was used mainly by western commercial businesses such as Walmart and Primark. Some of these unusual circumstances include: advancements, renunciation or disclaimer and public policy. Advancements: Advancement means that a person can transfer property to expectant heirs with the intention that the property be deducted from their eventual expected inheritance. In most states, an advancement is required to be memorialized in a contemporaneous writing. This is a result of problems with fraudulent claims. The advancement could be a gift or a loan. The renunciation is a return of the property. A disclaimer is a passing on of the property. Either one will suffice for an heir who does not want to receive his inheritance. Both usually mean that the heir will be treated as predeceasing the estate and their inheritance will pass to the next person in line (according to the statute of descent and distribution). Public Policy: Sometimes the state may limit or prohibit an inheritance. This would be done for public policy reasons. For instance, two or more potential heirs die at the same time (perhaps in the same event of accident). The difficulty of providing which of the two potential heirs died first, second, third, etc. will often result in the state s adoption of the Uniform Simultaneous Death Act. Under this Act, if one potential heir does not clearly survive the other potential hear by a certain amount of time, both will be treated as having predeceased the other. This results in equal shares of their jointly owned property being distributed to the heirs of both potential heirs. In addition, public policy could limit or prohibit inheritance of a person who was involved in an intentionally killing that left them benefitting from the act, i.e. if the killer would benefit from the victim s death. In this situation the potential heir or killer would be treated as predeceased. Public policy can also block inheritance by an illegal alien unless there is a treaty in place between the United States and the appropriate foreign country that would allow the ... Given these on track rates and consistency among the rates, the cohort graduation rate will be assessed for numbers of students who graduate, are accepted to post secondary education, those who enroll and over time persist toward completion of a college degree. Data will be collected from historic data that is available to the school in regard to grades, attendance and overall GPA throughout semesters and over time. Acceptance rate information will be collected through surveys and interviews, and persistence rates will be collected through the use of interviews and evaluation of student transcripts. Knes260 Assignment 1 KNES260 Paper Assignment #1 The 10 Year Risk for Cardiovascular Disease By: Kristine Albanes Using the Framingham risk equation I was able to calculate the ten year risk of developing heart disease for myself, an older relative (my mother), and a case study whom we will call Danny. I first inserted my data into the equation (SBP of 115, DBP of 70, non smoker, total cholesterol of 160, HDL cholesterol of 50, age of 20, and no diabetes) and with that I calculated my ten year risk of 0.036%, approximately 0.04%. Next, I followed the same steps with my mother s information (SBP of 118, DBP of 75, non smoker, total cholesterol of 185, HDL cholesterol of 55, age of 59, and no diabetes) and the result showed her 10 year risk was 7.3689%, approximately ... Diabetes is defined as having a fasting plasma glucose value of 7.0 mmol/l (126 mg/dl) or higher. Every year, diabetes claims many lives; for example, in 2008, diabetes was responsible for 1.3 million deaths all across the world (World Heart Federation, N.p., n.d). When looking at cardiovascular disease with diabetes, data shows that of all diabetics who die, 60% of them die as a result of cardiovascular disease (World Heart Federation, N.p., n.d). Cardiovascular risk increases with raised glucose values. The risk of cardiovascular events is from two to three times higher in people with type 1 or type 2 diabetes and the risk is disproportionately higher in women (World Heart Federation, N.p., n.d). From this we can infer that if my mother or I did have diabetes, it would be likely that that would increase our risk to a greater degree compared to Danny s risk, because he is a male. Cardiovascular risk increases with raised glucose values. In addition, within certain age groups, people with diabetes have a two fold increase in the risk of stroke. Patients with diabetes also have a poorer prognosis after cardiovascular events compared to people without diabetes. Try as she might, Edna is simply not a mother woman , and finds no satisfaction in attempting to be one (567). Edna s lack of belonging is not limited to inside her own house though. The largest aspect of life in which Edna fails to find belonging is in the Creole society. Edna is not Creole, but rather married into it. As she spends her summer immersed in this society, Edna begins to realize just how little she fits into it. The first argument for trade confinements, is that exchange limitations prevent the dumping of products in the local market. Dumping occurs when foreign producers offer merchandise at costs below their generation expense to drive out nearby rivalry. The second contention for exchange restrictions, is that these aid newly developed industries. The contention is that the extent of the new commercial enterprise is very minute and there are diseconomies that prevent them from contending successfully with foreign producers. The third argument, is that the nation should create commercial ventures that are needed for their protection. It has been debated for years between parents, students, and school systems alike as to whether or not dress codes are appropriate to enforce. This essay will summarize, make an argument, and analyze Krystal Miller s article on this subject, titled, School Dress Codes . School Dress Codes is a 1990 article about the issues surrounding various city s experiences with enforcing a school dress code. In the article, four different high schools in Detroit are examined, as well as a school in Baltimore, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Depositions from both pro dress code and anti dress code persons are included. The opposing end includes Mary Louise Starks, who is in charge of the psychological services for the Detroit school system and says dress codes are not the solution to the violence, A dress code is a temporary measure that is limited in scope. Students are committing these crimes because they don t have a sense of power and self esteem. They steal from their peers to gain control over another person (qtd. in Miller 87). An example of a pro dress code student from the article is 17 year old Jonathon Johns, a senior at Dunbar High Schoolin Baltimore, who says, Violence isn t as bad as it was.
