do they have overlapping time. The answer is yes, and also physical geography will effect about
the human geography or the human geography will effect about the physical energy. How funny
it is! I think physical geography will affect people s language, the world outlook and the religious
view. For example , in my hometown, we faith as many as dozens of gods. That is because my
hometown usually has some strong typhoon weather. The ancient science and technology is not

Social Revolutions Lead to Political Reform: How the Renaissance, Reformation, and Scientific
Revolution Led to a more Secular and Democratic Political Atmosphere. Since the beginning of
time cultural views have influenced and shaped our society but never has more change occurred
than during the Renaissance, Reformation, and Scientific Revolution. We leave the middle ages a
society of Kings and feudal life and emerge with the beginnings of modern political theory. The
Renaissance was a defining moment in history where old became new and ideas on science, nature,

The two understood citizens rights as well as Parliament s power, effectively becoming an excellent
example of a limited monarchy with consent of the people (Matthews, Platt, 387). This learning led
to the Constitution of the United States and a more secular and democratic political atmosphere in
general.
The English historian Herbert Butterfield once wrote:
The revolution in science overturned the authority in not only
of the Middle Ages but of the ancient world it ended not only
in the eclipse of scholastic philosophy but in the destruction of
Aristotelian physics. The scientific revolution outshines
everything since the rise of Christianity and reduces the
Renaissance and Reformation to the rank of mere episodes,
mere internal displacements within the system of medieval
Christianity. (Scientific Revolution, 6) This may be true however, as Newton said so eloquently, If
I have seen further it is because I have stood on the shoulders of giants. (Scientific Revolution, 7)
Without the inquisitive spirit and energy of the Renaissance, or the reglious examination of the
Reformation, the Scientific Revolution may never have had its beginning. Only in the last fifty
years has the western world seen as much political, cultural and scientific change. The 1960 s social

Even at the very beginning of America, Artists would paint the Native American s women in
such a way to attracted more people to come over and explore this new world, and maybe to find
these exotic women in the forest. As more and more people came over, along with more success
in starting colonies women were given more power in the new world then back at home. European
women, in the beginning, were outnumbered by the males and this was the beginning of uprising of
power for women. European women were not the first group of women to gain more power in
society. Native American women already had more freedom than European women had originally.

Original Sin, in short was the story on how Adam and Eve got kick out of the Garden by eating
the apple. If we continue to look into English religion, God create men first, then create women
for the men. Native American had a different idea on how we were created. The Iroquois
creation story believed that a woman came from Heaven and a tortoise back was the land we
live on. A spirit saw that the woman was lonely and give her three children, two sons and one
daughter. The daughter became the mother of the Iroquois people. The Iroquois saw women as
the creator of the world and their nation, which is the complete opposite of what English
believed. Instead of women being seen as weak, Native American women were essential to group
survival for they were gatherers of the group. They daily life included finding food, nurturers to
the children, and processes of community decision. Women in Native American society were not
seen as equals through. Looking at the two paintings of Native Americans working on farm land
by Joseph Francois Lafitau and Theodor de Bry. Both were European artist that depict Native
American women gatherers and work at home. In Theodor de Bry painting he paints women
planting seeds, as the men work the field to make the land suitable to grow plants. In Joseph
Francois Lafitau painting it shows men working the field while women plant seeds again, but it also
shows women gatherer sap from trees to make syrup. Women were not equal to men in Native
American society, but they had many more rights than European women. In John White painting of
Native Americans religious ritual, it shows Native American women preforming a ritual among
males. In some cases women served as the mediators between humans and supernatural powers. The
only time women were able to pick their husband in early America was Chesapeake. As mention

Introduction Like most momentous declaration documents in the history of governments, the
American Declarations of Independence is a document that represents a specific historical era.
The universal human right concept occupies over 20% of the document while the rest of
document details the alleged atrocities that the colonial government had committed. The list of the
grievances is long. This paper looks at the most critical points in the declaration and those that the
writer does not think as very important. The Most Critical Grievances The idea that King of
England was the only person responsible with appointing judges and imposing them on the
colonist was very contentious. King George would appoint and send judges from London. This

King George dissolution of the Representative Houses repeatedly due to their opposition to
invasions of people rights was vigorously opposed. Representative Houses would be viewed by
the colonist as advancing their agenda in the legislations they debate and pass. The mandate of
these houses is to debate pass all legislations that impact positively on the people. All those
legislation that infringe on the rights of the people should be rejected. Dissolving the

2. Literature Review
2.1. Merger and Acquisitions (M A)
M A are often conducted for the strategic advantages that it entails such as improvements in
efficiency, performance as well as synergistic gains (Junior et al, 2013). The potential source of
synergies motivates firms to engage in M A where they believe the value generated from this
strategic combination exceeds the respective individual firm value if they were to operate
independently (Duksaite and Tamosiuniene, 2009).
Synergies are derived from different sources to include revenue enhancement, cost reduction and tax
gains. Revenue enhancement occurs as the combined firm is collectively able to generate larger
revenues compared to their ability as separate, independent firms (Hillier et al, 2013).
Hou et al (2015) stated that the ultimate aim of M A is to gain stronger market power and hence
enhanced competitive position through the elimination of rivals This in effect increases control
over market conditions such as supply and price. Nguyen et al (2012) supported this by highlighting
that increased market power is one of the considerations taken when conducting synergistic
acquisitions.
2.1.1. M A Wave
Hou et al (2015) expressed that M A activities rarely occur in isolation, but rather a small number
of M A activities often instigates a surge in M A volume, which eventually subsides to a number of

Kesey Flew East, His Critics Fly West: They ve All Missed the Merit in the Cuckoo s Nest
There s something about taking a plow and breaking new ground. It gives you energy (Kesey
qtd. in Sova 244). This energy, however, comes with a cost, as demonstrated by Kesey s
revolutionary novel One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest. In the process of writing the book, Kesey
embarked with ambitious goal of ultimately reshaping American society s approach to established
institutions. Never before had a major American work illustrated conformity in American medical
consortiums in such a subversive manner, and even the Seismic Sixties during which Cuckoo s
Nest was published saw the novel s acclaim balanced with pointed criticism. Today, One Flew over
the Cuckoo s Nest is taught nationwide, and each year millions of high school students submerse
themselves in the story of Chief Bromden and Randle McMurphy. Both these men are patients at a
mental ward in Oregon, Bromden being an Indian chief who is assumed deaf and dumb by the
other patients and narrates the novel, and McMurphy being the coarse, rebellious, gambling man
who comes to the ward with a marked intention of defying rules and establishing a dominant
presence. Until McMurphy s arrival Nurse Ratched runs the ward with precision and a subtle force,
combining with the organization of the Combine to completely control the lives of the patients. The

13. Descriptive Essay On The Swamp
A threshold of life and death, the swamp holds a length of trees in its standing waters up to its
multi layered canopy. Amid low lying shrubs, pools coalesce atop seasoned earth. The saturated
land keeps an enraptured meadow. I admire the wildness of its primordial nature, I can easily
appreciate the outgrowth of its networks and wonder how far they stretch.
I remember years ago, while I was volunteering in New Orleans, I was with a crew of kids
cleaning up one of the bayous in the area shortly after Hurricane Katrina hit. Between alligators, we
pulled out debris from the water with thirty something foot long rakes.
Walking down a green thoroughfare I noticed a heron in the water. I froze. Instantly we made eyes.
The shape of the bird caught me. It was long, slender and rigid standing utterly still in the bayou. Its
birdness kept me in a trance. There it stood atop the low water, in blue and gray.
I was shocked. The sense of it standing there amid alligators in a freshly weather torn world gave
me an immense feeling. It was as if this bird reminded me of shame, shame for being separate,
for being human. Together we came face to face, and each sort of gave the other access. Shook, I
tried to continue my walk, but I felt like I shouldn t. The bird and the rest of the swamp, the rest of
nature, were all around me suddenly watching.
Just moments before, immersed in the other volunteers dark visions of the potential fate of the area
and extended wetlands, I was all too human.

from other car manufacturers, Ford rushed production of the Pinto to get it on the road quicker.
The car cost two thousand dollars and over 12.5 million were massed produced by Ford over the
span of 9 years. Facing the need to make the car cost efficient, corners were cut by Ford and certain
standards of safety for the car weren t met and the area where the bumper and the fuel tank were
missing key components imperative to safety this meant rear end collisions would rupture the Pinto

Safety wasn t a popular subject around Ford in those days. With Lee it was taboo. Whenever a
problem was raised that meant a delay on the Pinto, Lee would chomp on his cigar, look out the
window and say Read the product objectives and get back to work. Safety was not a popular
subject because safety would cost for eleven dollars for each cars to be implemented with a
redesign to make sure that it does not set on fire when struck by another car. Ford tallied up the
cost of these implemented safety measures to be around 137 million dollars, on the other hand did

16. The History of Alcatraz Island Essay
The History of Alcatraz Island
Alcatraz Island has quite a distinct history. Many people know that Alcatraz served as a federal
prison, but most are reluctant to know that this island served as fort. Built before the Civil War, it
served two main purposes. First, that it was to guard the San Francisco bay area from enemy ships
against a foreign invasion, and second, to hold hostage prisoners of war or POW s as they were
called. In this report, I ll show you how this fortress came to be a federal prison, why it is no
longer in operation today, and most importantly, to show why it was built in the first place. When
the great Gold Rush of 1849 first started, California grew from what would be considered a small,
unpopulated state, into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the early 1860 s, Alcatraz had 111 cannons. Some were enormous, firing a fifteen inch ball
weighing over 450 pounds. Defenses included a row of brick enclosed gun positions called case
mates to protect the dock; a fortified gateway or a Sally Port to block the entrance road; and a
three story citadel on top of the island. This served both as an armed barracks and as a last line
defense strategy. Even though Alcatraz was built to withstand a foreign invasion, its most
important use was during the Civil War, 1861 1865. Seeing as it was the only completed fortin the
entire bay, it was vital in the protecting from Confederate Raiders. Early in the war, ten thousand
rifles were moved to Alcatraz from the State armory, to prevent them from being used by
southern sympathizers. The crew of a Confederate privateer were among the first inmates to be
held within The Rock. Alcatraz s notoriety as a penitentiary overshadows its earlier, and longer
use by the Army. Surprisingly, this small island once was the most powerful fort west of the
Mississippi River. There was some limited modernization of the island s defenses after the Civil
War. Rifled cannons were mounted. In 1854 some 450 electrically controlled underwater mines
were brought to the island to protect the Bay. However, as the ships of potential enemies became
more and more powerful, the defenses were increasing! ly obsolete. In 1907 Alcatraz officially
ceased being a fortress and became Pacific

This type of growth is important as it helps the child grow and provides a purpose for the child.
Another benefit is that this toy will encourage solitary and active play, types of social patterns
and play, which is vital for child s development. This toy supports skill development through
maturation as children will learn how to play with this toy as they mature cognitively. According
to Piaget s idea of schemas which are created by assimilation and accommodation, the schema for
the child in the preoperational stage will be that they will think that two different shapes of the
same colour would both fit into the same cut out hole in the box, when in fact, they will not. The
child then goes through assimilation, where they will adjust their existing schema and understand
that an object can be classified by more than one feature. The state of the schema is then changed
from disequilibrium to equilibrium. Therefore, this toy is developmentally appropriate to children
in the preoperational stage as it will encourage the child to overcome an issue they face in their
age period. PART C: EVALUATION OF DEVELOPMENTAL THEORY Piaget s Stages of

20. Summary Of Toms River By Dan Fagin
Introduction: Toms River: A Story of Science and Salvation By Dan Fagin explores the economics,
scientific, political, and personal tragedy of how a chemical giant known as Ciba Geigy and
entrepreneurs failed to properly dispose the industrial waste which eventually contaminated the
ground water of a coastal town. The book delves deeply into the history of the dye industry and the
lesson learned from the environmental disaster. Fagin takes on complex issues to address the
history of industrial processes in both Europe and the United States. He then explores further about
the long struggle that parents and public officials took in Toms River, N.J., to scientifically identify
the cancer cluster in children and then to determine the best way to handle the discovery.
Background: Part of the drama in Toms River involves the conflict and concerns for environmental

My colleague, Alison Guest, and I were assigned to travel to Rome to visit the beautiful
Colosseum where we needed to record out findings and reveal the history of the structure. We
traveled over eight hours from New York to Piazza del Colosseo, Rome, Italy to learn about the
history behind the Colosseum. Being a new archeologist, it is mandatory to travel all over the
world to cites to get a better understanding of history. Before traveling to Rome, I knew very little of
the Colosseum. I knew it was made of cement and destroyed but I did not know much of the
history behind its creation and its destruction. Little did I know, I would fall in love with the
history and the beauty of the ancient Colosseum. Once we arrived, the first thing you noticed
was how big the Colosseum was. I never imagined how big it could actually be. It covered six
acres of land and stood at 157 feet tall. Another leading archeologist who joined us for the trip
had mentioned that took 1.1 million tons of concrete, stone and bricks to complete the whole
structure. (The Colosseum, 2002) The Colosseum was a massive structure made of stone. It has
an elliptical shape, allowing a nice view no matter where you are seated. The best seat belonged
to none other than the emperor who sat in the emperors box. The entrances and staircase were
arranged by marble and iron dividers. This was to keep different social classes apart. ( The

22. Orbital Fracture In Sports
Orbital fractures represent a small proportion of sports related injuries. Initial evaluation is directed
at excluding neurological impairment or the presence of signs and symptoms consistent with orbital
fracture. These include gross bony deformity, diplopia and malposition of globe. The majority of
pationts who sustain orbital fractures are able to return to sport, however, persistent diplopia is not
uncommon.
Orbital fractures represent a significant sequelae of blunt ocular trauma sustained during sport.
These injuries may result in chronic functional disability for affected players, and as such, must be
differentiated from less serious facial injuries and appropriately managed in the acute setting. [12]

When a blunt object larger than the diameter of the orbital entrance strikes the eye, it compresses
the globe resulting in a sudden increase in intraorbita hydraulic pressure. The dose not rupture, and
this acute increase in intraorbital pressure is dissipated via the soft tissue through the weakest
portions of the orbit: the posteromedial portion of the orbital floor and the lamina papyracea of the
ethmoid bone, which constitutes the medial orbital wall. This ultimately results in the fracture and
potential displacement of one or both these bony orbital segments. Other theories describing the
genesis of blow out fractures have been offered and include the bone conduction or buckling theory
in which direct trauma to the inferior orbital rim causes the orbital floor to buckle, and its thinnest
area to fracture. Numerous studies have revealed data in sports of both

23. Television and Media Violence
Is Aggressive Behavior Linked to Television Violence?
According the Centerwall (1992), the average child aged 2 5 in 1990 watched 27 hours of
television per day, or almost 4 hours per day. When much of what is on television, including
cartoons and television shows targeted at children, contains violence, it becomes important to
know whether watching televised violence can lead to or increase aggressive behavior. Social
learning theory tells us that children model their behavior after those they see. It is reasonable,
then, to infer that watching violence on television will lead to behaving violently, due to the
modeling effect. The present study reviews some relevant prior research, and then investigates ...

Africa is just a less violent country than the US or Canada, Centerwall included the homicide rates
for the three countries in 1987. In the US and Canada, no significant changes were noted,

For the career road map assignment, I decided to interview a friend, athlete, coach, and counselor

Chattanooga. While he was in grad school for counselling MA, Daniel worked at a running shoe

But through his connections in the sport industry, he moved into coaching and counselling at

The second strategy is to be well educated on the subject. The third strategy is to develop good

The financial hardships will push you to the edge. Everyone told me in high school that you will
receive so many scholarships and so I never would have thought that in my first year of college
that I would already be $5,500 in debt. The bad thing about FASFA too, is that they depend
solely on how much your parents make. Most of the time money that the parent makes doesn t
not end up in their child s college fund. The cost of college compared to how much young adults
can make is mind boggling. Students have to make the decision whether or not they want to
spend the majority of time working or going to school. A full time student earns about 15 credit
hours a semester and every teacher says that you have to spend 3 hours outside of class studying
and doing assignments. For the average full time student this means that 45 hours our spent on
school work. A typical full time employee works 40 hours. Together this is 84 hours and there
are only 168 hours in the week. Even part time employees struggle with balancing the two. 4 out
of 5 students work part time to try and keep their head above the water that is their growing debt.
However, a college degree is necessary if you want to be successful. The other option is to work
years and years in the same company trying to move up the ladder, but really there is no promise of
success. My dad has worked at GE for 35 years and this year they were bought out by Haer. Haer

28. The Influences of Mass Media on Health Trends
The mass media consists of many sources of communication such as newspapers, magazines,
television and radio, amongst other media outlets, of which are used to inform, educate, influence,
and entertain an audience. These forms of communication help construct a person s perception
because the media use platforms to influence opinion, of which is made possible due to how the
media organisations use their resources. The modern media are able to change people s
perspectives by introducing them to modern knowledge. In particular, the media has a great
influence on health trends, due to them being the main source of information to the public, and
therefore they have a greater responsibility to present the facts because irresponsible reporting can
result in consequences, such as widespread moral panic, financial failure for businesses and may
potentially be life threatening. Evidence to support this statement comes from the increase of the
term obesity epidemic used by the media, in particular The New York Times, of whom covered
this throughout 751 reports between 1990 and 2001. The obesity epidemic caused a moral panic
amongst the public because the media defined it as a social issue due to the news story being less
significant to theme. The information presented is influential to the public as it shapes their
perception towards obesity. However, the media tend to portray overweight individuals negatively,
of which reinforces stigma and ultimately results in the

then discuss some key provisions of construction contracts. Understanding these provisions will
help you to manage risk through careful scrutiny of contract terms and knowing when to call on

If the other party moves quickly on the fundamental terms and you are able to establish those
terms without too much trouble before tackling the more peripheral details, you can rest assured
that you and your counterparty are on the same page. However, when that portion of the
contracting process fails, it becomes obvious that there is no deal. The third practical benefit of
contracting is that it will give you key insights into the integrity of the other party. It is
especially worthwhile to get a sneak peek at whether the counterparty will keep its word.
Thankfully, you do not have to visit a fly by night fortuneteller to discover this information.
Negotiating a contract will give you the preview you need. Observing how the other party deals
with contracts will reveal their general method of handling business affairs. A company that
agrees to pay within 30 days after the job ends but then rejects firm language requiring payment
in 30 days or requiring interest if payment is made later than 30 days is probably not committed
to paying on time. The benefits extend beyond these three areas too. The specific provisions you
agree to will impact the bottom line of your business over time. Well drafted contracts are a key
factor that determines survival and profitability in the construction industry. Such contracts lays the
foundation for a healthy working relationship and a profitable job by defining key terms and issues

30. The History of the Canadian Political Landscape
The Canadian political landscape has a rich and complex history spanning from sea to sea , just as
the nation itself. Chronicles of dominance, leadership, and association by the United Kingdom,
France, and the United States has ultimately shaped the Canadian national consciousness, resulting
in the political ideologies and governance we see today. To best describe the characteristic of
Canadian politics, one can refer to Fragment Theory where a colonial nation, such as Canada, is
predominantly influenced from their historic origins. However, recent immigration and economic
trends have drastically reshaped the Canadian political spectrum across provinces. The following
essay will briefly analyze the evolution of political ideologies across Canada, primarily focusing on
the conservative/ neo liberal model.
To properly analyze the political ideologies that have played a major role in shaping Canadian
politics, one must examine a major aspect regional politics. It is the various regions and provinces
that make up Canada, as does their political ideological landscape.
Perhaps the most influential of provinces in the development of political ideology in Canada is
Ontario. Since the formation of Canada, Ontario played a large role in the political sphere, hence
being home to the nations capital. Settled by British colonialist, and later on British loyalist from
America, Ontario was predominantly Anglo Saxon, which favored traditional British principles

31. Testing is Overrated Essay
Students dread the time of the year when they stop with their course material and begin to prepare
for test. Everyone is in agreement that some type of revolution is needed when it comes to
education; eliminating standardized test will aid the reform. The need for standardized testing has
proven to be ineffective and outdated; some leading educationalist also believe this because the
tests do not measure a student s true potential. This will save money, stop labeling, and alleviate
stress in students and teachers.
Now more than ever, money is scarce and one way to increase this money supply is by the
elimination of standardized testing. The cost for standardized testing in 2nd graders is roughly
estimated to be between $2 $4 million, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These tests tend to cause the student s too much stress and puts pressure on them to obtain a certain
score on these test that are required on a yearly basis. Teachers also set aside too much time to teach
strategies for taking the test and lecturing on how to eliminate some choices. According to Kathy
Frandle this is A huge waste of instruction time (Fridy). Furthermore, the unneeded stress generally
leads to a state of anxiety and it is setting too many of them up for devastating failure and,
consequently, lowered self esteem (Perrone).
Each state teaches their students different material at different rates and this is why some states
place pressure of testing companies to dumb down the test (Margie). Each state s tests are created
by the state; therefore, they can make the test as easy as possible to make everyone succeed on it.
Some states have districts in poverty and cannot afford the best textbooks or technologies;
therefore, their students do not reach their potential. When these districts have scores that are too
low they do not receive federal grants; therefore, this puts them into a further bind.
Standardized testing does not occur at the college level where someone might assume that it would
be mandated. When someone is taking a test to enter a college, wouldn t it be logical for a

34. Atheistic Arguments Against Agnosticism
Between the two opposite views of God, theist and atheists, there is a middle ground and it is
called agnosticism. People who are agnostic believe that there is not enough reason to believe
there is a God but there is also not enough reason to believe there isn t one. I will argue why
agnosticism is valid and must be supported. The reason we, as a society, must remain agnostic is
because there is not enough evidence to support atheismor theism. So, we also must keep searching
for valid evidence when it comes to the existence of God.
In order to live a life of knowledge, we must only assume things are correct based on sufficient
evidence. For example, before there were laws that required accurate labeling of medication,
companies made claims that their medication would cure diseases such as cancer. Obviously, this
claim is not reasonable because there is not enough sufficient evidence to support it. So, we must
not assume things are true or not without sufficient evidence. Since there is not sufficient evidence
to support whether God is real or not real we must remain agnostic.
The reason we must remain agnostic is because we do not have sufficient evidence to believe
anything else. Some theist believe the premise that the world that we ... Show more content on

learned that if we were to believe something without evidence because of the favorable outcome,

36. Summary Of Chapter Five Of Social Problems
Chapter five of Social Problems by Joel Best was about the media and how claims can use the
media. The chapter explains how the media is ran and how it can impact claims. The most
important components of the chapter is how the news has changed over time (139). The chapter
then goes on to bring up how popular culture affects how media handles social claims (149). The
chapter also brings ups how social media can play a part in claimsmaking (153). Lastly, the
chapter brings up how the media impacts us (155). Best talks about how the news has become the
way it is and how it affects claims now. News started as fifteen minute broadcasts on weekdays,
which were only on only three networks, which was extended to thirty minutes in the 1960s. With

ABSTRACT
Ten shales samples obtained in X Formation, Afikpo Basin and were subjected to geochemical
analysis to determine the TOC , SOM and Rock eval pyrolysis. The TOC values varied from 0.6
7.36 % 1.60w% 1.80w% with an average of 1.66w%, while the SOM values ranged from 100 380
% . Tmax range from 442 462 . The above results show that the TOC values fall above the
minimum threshold for hydrocarbon generation potential. The minimum threshold value for TOC
is 0.5%. The average SOM value is also indicative of good source rock potential for the studied
samples. The Tmax values in the study area shows that the sediments are immature and have not
reached the oil generation phase, but are within the gas phase. The organic matter quantity is
adequate for sediments to yield hydrocarbon whereas the organic matter quality is inadequate to
expel hydrocarbon.
(I)INTRODUCTION
Most people now believe that oil and gas are formed when the remains of dead animals and plants
are mixed with sediments, buried and formed into rocks and then heated deep underground. The
oil and gas then seep out through porous rocks where they may or may not collect in an oil or gas
field.

against the two Marines is strong and that Kaffee could risk his reputation (including court martial

In the course of the trial it is established that code reds are standard in Guantanamo Bay as a
means of enforcing discipline and getting sloppy Marines to follow procedure. Kaffee especially
goes after Kendrick, particularly over the fact that he denied Dawson a promotion after the latter
helped out a fellow Marine who was under what could be seen as a code red.
Lieutenant Colonel Markinson has gone absent without leave since the incident, but he resurfaces

base as previously claimed but created the transfer orders as part of a cover up long after Santiago
s death. Kaffee is unable to find evidence corroborating these claims and announces his intention to

40. The Prevalence Of Eating Disorders Among Elite Female...
You might think that elite female athletes, who need to be in near perfect shape to compete,
would be the last people to develop an eating disorder. Good afternoon Principal Mr Grimes,
special guests, staff and students. My name is Marine Madsen and I am here today to present
my Research Project: The Prevalence of Eating Disorders Amongst Elite Female Athletes.
(CHANGE SLIDE) Today I will be addressing two questions. Firstly, what is the prevalence of
eating disorders amongst elite female athletes and is this group more prone to the development
of the condition compared to their non athletic female counterparts? (CHANGE SLIDE) The
secondary question I will be exploring is: Do elite female athletes and females suffering who
suffer eating disorders, share similar personality characteristics and if so, could this explain the
prevalence of the condition amongst elite female athletes? (CHANGE SLIDE) Why did I choose
this topic? I knew from the beginning that I wanted a topic surrounding the field of psychology. I
chose eating disorders as I have always been curious about mental illnesses and the predisposing
factors of these conditions. Instead of just focusing on purely eating disorders, I wanted to add
another element that was relevant to my life, and thus, as I enjoy sports, I thought to incorporate
elite female athletes. (CHANGE SLIDE) What are eating disorders? Eating disorders are defined
by abnormal obsessive thoughts regarding food and weight, feelings

41. Childhood Is Seen As A Horror Experience
Childhood is often seen as a carefree time where children are able to grow and learn from the world
around them. Many people have fond memories of their time as a child and would do anything
to get it back. However, in Barrie s Peter Pan, childhood is seen as a horror experience. This novel
is read in stark contrast to Walt Disney s popular movie version of Peter Pan. Disney s version
shows three children on the adventure of their life. But, Barrie s Peter Pan is the exemplar of the
childhood horror experience because of the actions of the characters of Mr. and Mrs. Darling, the
actions of the character Captain James Hook, and the dangers inherent of being a child in this
anarchistic place called Neverland. With a name like Darling one may assume that the holder of
that name would be an inherently good person. However, this is not the case with the characters
of Mr. and Mrs. Darling in Barrie s Peter Pan. The behavior of these two characters toward their
own children allows the true childhood horror experience to be shown. For example, when
Wendy Darling was born, Mr. Darling s first action as a father was to calculate whether or not he
and his wife could afford to keep their infant daughter. With his wife still in bed, Mr. Darling . . .
sat on the edge of Mrs. Darling s bed, holding her hand and calculating expenses, while she looked
at him imploringly (Barrie 8). This action from Mr. Darling expressed the horrible truth that he
valued any wealth that he and his wife

42. Libertine Values in the 18th Century
The succession of libertine values in the 18th century was in largely a result of the Puritan
Movement in the late 17th century, which brought in a trend of individualistic models for social
engagement (Willey 10). Furthermore this religious instability generated a new vein of
philosophical thinkers and revitalized the need for independent growth. During this time we see the
introduction of several key writers that provide a timestamp of the effects of libertine and
individualistic values on the 18th centuryincluding Wycherley, Locke, Rochester, Pope, and
Pepys. Each writer provides a slightly different take on the changes that occurred during this time
period and by piecing together common elements of each, a unified impression of the individual
begins form. When the picture of the individual is shaped, perspectives into the commonly held
beliefs and criticisms begin to surface, which foster a glimpse into 18th century life. One
particular area of interest is how individuals in this time period viewed the environment as new
moral values began to take hold and the individual became less concerned about the population
(Willey 10). Individuals in the 18th century held the environment to a higher degree of importance
as is evident in the works of a number of writers and their focus on the individual, religion and
morality, and nature.
To begin, consider the account of the individual in the 17th in a time when a predominantly catholic

44. Plate Tectonic Analysis
The plate tectonic theory states that rigid plates slowly ride on the molten mantle. The boundaries
between the plates are known to serve as an important mineral resource. Three types of tectonic
plate exist: convergent, divergent and transform boundaries. A convergent boundary represents two
plates moving towards each other mostly forming a subduction. When two plates move away from
each other, a divergent boundary is formed. In transform boundaries, the plates move laterally past
each other (Mission, 2016).
Within the mid ocean ridges forming a divergent boundary, a zone of low pressure is formed
allowing magma to rise to the surface. Potentially valuable metals are present in the hot magma.
The valuable deposits are further concentrated by leaching of metals from water permeating the
rocks (Mission, 2016). The water circulating through the rocks is heated by the magma forming
hydrothermal fluids. The hot hydrothermal fluids form black smokers covering the sea floor and
are rich in sulfur containing minerals, for instance, galena, a lead sulfide, and pyrite, an iron sulfide
(Mission, 2016). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The volcanoes heat up water percolating through the rocks and the dissolved minerals are carried
to surrounding rocks. This kind of deposit represents the majority of world s copper supply
(Mission, 2016). Mineral veins and pegmatite are formed once the magma cools. An example of a
mineral vein is the Mother Lode of the Sierra Nevada containing gold deposits. Once volcanic
mountains from subduction erode, portions of silver, gold or other metals may flow into streams
and their accumulation forms placer deposits. Other resources are the Ophiolites, a rich source of
chromium which is formed from portions of oceanic crust emplaced on continents after subduction
events (Sharma,

USS Midway Museum
On September 24, 2016 I had the privilege of visiting the USS Midway Historical Museum. My
friend Michelle, who is also a CBU student, accompanied me while we explored this fantastic
site. I was recommended to tour the USS Midway by my German foreign exchange student who
was able to visit the attraction a couple weeks earlier. Niels emphasized how much he enjoyed
his visit and explained that it was a shame that I had not been there earlier, due to the fact that I
live so close to San Diego. It was Niel s advice, paired with my prior interest in the history of this
battleship that inspired me to finally see it for myself.
Michelle and I arrived on a beautiful San Diego day at North Harbor Drive near the Coronado
Broadway Pier. We parked somewhat far away because it was a busy day on the harbor. Walking

instruments, filling the air with a sweet melody. Walking along this beautiful parkway, looking out
at the blue waters crashing against the docks, I could not help but realize how blessed and grateful
I am to be free in such a great nation.

The Zodiac Killer Case Revisited
I.List of crimes
The horrors in California began on Friday, December 20, 1968 in the city of Vallejo when
sixteen year old Betty Lou Jensen and seventeen year old David Faraday were killed while out
on a date. At the time, according to Haugen (2011), they had driven to a remote lover s lane on
Lake Herman Road. It was while they were there that a vehicle stopped nearby and the driver got
out, shot out the rear passenger window of David Faraday s station wagon, and then shot the left
rear tire. The man shot Faraday behind the left ear, while Betty Lou Jensen was running for the
road. Unfortunately, she was unable to escape and was shot in the back five times by the assailant
before he fled the scene.
July 4, 1969 when Darlene Ferrin and Michael Mageau were followed by an unknown vehicle,
they pulled into a parking lot overlooking Blue Rock Springs Golf Course. Ferrin parked, turned
off the headlights, and she and Mageau, listened to the radio. According to Haugen, a car stopped
near them, paused for a while, then left, going towards Vallejo. About five minutes later, the
vehicle came back and parked behind Ferrin s Corvair. Leaving the headlights on, a man carrying
a flashlight got out of the car and approached Ferrin s vehicle. Thinking it was a law enforcement

to no knowledge of what it is. Is it deadly? Is there a cure? Is it a virus or disease? There are many
questions that enter the mind because there are many concerns associated with an unknown illness.
Several people wonder if the virus is similar to hepatitis A or B because there has been education
throughout the years that provides more awareness surrounding the two known viruses, but it is
discovered there are vast differences. Until recently, the general population was unaware that
another hepatitis virus acts as a silent killer. Unlike hepatitis A or B, hepatitis Cis a relatively new
disease that can go unnoticed until it is too late. The virus was initially named non A, non B
hepatitis because the virus was identified through numerous blood tests in the 1960s and 1970s (
Hepatitis C History ). The virus was given the name hepatitis C in the 1980s when the Center for
Disease Control was able to identify the virus ( Hepatitis C FAQ ). It was identified that the virus
enters the human body by entering through blood or bodily fluids and nestles in its permanent
home of the liver. This virus is a highly infectious bloodborne pathogen that can cause cirrhosis of
the liver and in some cases turn into liver cancer. At this time, there is no cure once the virus has
been transmitted. Even though the transmission rate is low, the first step in attacking the virus is to

from past mistakes, and not being afraid to make the tough decisions. Once mission expertise is

The atmosphere is the body of air which surrounds our planet. Most of our atmosphere is located

In America, we enjoy freedoms that we often take for granted. We have the power to decide
things for ourselves, such as our leaders, our rights, and our liberties. We have the ability to debate
and evaluate the effectiveness and the relevance of a law or bill, and we must use this power when
it comes to the methods of taxation. Currently, the US uses a progressive income taxas its means to
raise revenue. Deborah Lee and Richard A. Grant, in Counterpoint: Expanding Sales Taxes Helps
the Rich, Hurts the Poor, believe that a progressive income taxis the fairest and most constructive
ways to fund the government, and that such a tax benefits the poor more than a sales tax. Lee and
Grant start their argument with wisdom, declaring that government must have a way to tax their
citizens. Political establishments must have funds to protect, serve, and govern their people. This is

The Earth has maintained records of its climatic conditions in glaciers and ice caps, sediments from
lakes and oceans, within the skeletons of coral reefs, as well as tree rings. The study of these
samples is known as paleoclimatology. These environmental recorders can be used by scientists to
estimate past conditions. Common findings from paleoclimatologists (those who study
environmental evidence to gain insight on what the past climate was like and why) indicate that the
Earth s climate is always changing. Further examination shows that the Earth s climate is able to

As the layers are marked based on seasonal variations in snow, the isotopic composition of the
precipitation is examined further to determine the temperature when and where the snow fell.
Similarly, examining the isotopic properties of wind blown dust allows for the material to be
traced back to its origin. Anything that is within the atmosphere has the potential to end up in an
ice core, and more often than not remains unchanged over time. Trapped gases in air bubbles are
highly reliable records of atmospheric composition. Slight differences between bubbles and air
composition caused by gravitational and thermal effects, are well understood and recognizable.
Certain chemical reactions in impure ice can possibly produce abnormal compositions for some
gases. However, due to the close association of the gas and ice chemistry, it is a clear indicator of
climate change (Г“skarsson, 2004). Ice core records are generally cross referenced with other ice
core records along with other methods of instrumental climate records to confirm findings.
Statistical and physical analyses are needed to put small, one time changes into perspective.
Meanwhile, large changes in the concentrations of most materials in ice, reflect changes in their
atmospheric loading.

allocation of decision making authority among the various actors in a firm are, to a considerable
degree, determined by the costs associated with acquiring, storing, processing and disseminating

individuals. The firm represents a set of agency contracts under which a principal (entrepreneur)
employs agents (employees) to perform some service on his behalf. The agent s interest to

57. Beyond The Mason Jar Analysis
Beyond the Mason Jar is not just a magazine, it is a project that I put a significant amount of
thought and passion into. The Zero Waste Movement is a movement that I actively participate in
and deeply value in my life. I certainly did not want to write a magazine about something I had
no prior interest in. Not to say that creating a magazine about completely new information
wouldn t be interesting in some way, but rather that I was able to really invest myself into the
topic I chose because of my close relationship with the topic. Through the creation of Beyond the

magazine. I love her use of the analogy, I can cast a stone .... to create many ripples. I think one
of the things that I lot of people either in or joining the ZWM is the struggle for perfection and
impact (myself included). It can be really daunting when you see pictures of waterways
overwhelmed by plastic debris in other developing countries or a video of a plastic straw stuck
in the nose of a poor sea turtle (that is another story in itself). I think it is vital for the readers to
realize that we can only do so much to aid in situations like those. However, I want to show them
that the ripples we cast do make a difference. I have found that to be very true in my life. Every
time someone tells me they think of me because of some plastic they threw away or something
they did to be more sustainable, the fire in my heart grows exponentially. That is the power that I
want the reader to realize they have. Next, the couple of advertisements that I included in my
magazine are sort of akin to transitions. I created both of them from products that I use in my life
and paired them with rather bleak statistics to persuade the reader to think twice about the
disposable products in our
