User contributions have the potential to enrich WorldCat in several ways:
1) Over 160,000 user-created lists are already in WorldCat, allowing sharing of citations and recommendations.
2) User feedback like corrections, added content, and ratings can help improve WorldCat's quality and coverage.
3) Linking user contributions to related professional and external data could provide a more comprehensive view of identities, works, and topics in WorldCat.
However, challenges remain in encouraging contributions at scale while maintaining data quality, integrating social metadata with existing systems, and addressing users' reluctance to engage in some activities like ratings.

The document outlines an audit of the CoderDojo Foundation's Kata content system performed by SAP employees to improve its structure and user experience. Through user surveys, interviews and analyzing the site, they found Kata to be cluttered and confusing to navigate. Their recommendations aim to balance community and foundation content on Kata and make information easier to access within 3 clicks from the homepage.
This document summarizes the work done by an SAP team to audit and restructure the Kata content system for the CoderDojo Foundation. The team used the Stanford Design Thinking process to understand user needs, observe how Kata was currently being used, develop recommendations and prototypes, and test solutions. Their goal was to make Kata more intuitive and user-friendly. Key recommendations included simplifying navigation using a "3-click" concept, improving organization sections, promoting peer review/community, and expanding Kata's global reach. The restructured Kata aimed to better support sharing of skills/resources for CoderDojo's global community of young coders.

Leveraging the Crowd: Supporting Newcomers to Build an OSS CommunityMarco Aurelio Gerosa
Keynote delivered at the Paris Workshop at the International Conference on Global Software Engineering
Abstract:
Open Source Software is an important economic driving force. Companies are aware of the benefits and are adopting OSS as a strategy, opening their source code. However, fostering an OSS developer community is challenging. Newcomers to OSS projects face many technical and social barriers and commonly drop out before making their first contribution. In this keynote, I will talk about how companies are opening their code, the barriers newcomers face to join OSS projects, and FLOSSCoach, a tool we developed to support newcomers first steps.
Bio:
Marco Aurélio Gerosa is an Associate Professor in the Computer Science Department at the University of São Paulo, Brazil. His research lies in the intersection between Software Engineering and Social Computing, focusing on the fields of empirical software engineering, mining software repositories, software evolution, and social dimensions of software development. He has published more than 150 peer-reviewed papers. He served as Program Chair at ICGSE 2016 and PC member in several conferences, such as ACM CSCW, SANER, MSR, etc. In addition to his research, he also coordinates award-winning open source projects. Building Successful API Programs in Higher Education3scale
In this webinar, hosted on August 27, 2015, Steven Willmott discusses the benefits of API development in higher education.
APIs are not exclusive to for-profit organizations. In higher education—from statewide university and college systems to smaller private institutions—schools like Notre Dame and Brigham Young University have built highly successful API programs.
The Information Architecture Gateway will be a portal that connects tools, libraries, and resources from different disciplines related to information architecture (IA). It will host artifacts like IA histories, methodologies, visualizations, and tools. The gateway will be developed through the Science Gateways Institute and collaborate with partners like EarthCube, the Identity Ecosystem Working Group, and the Information Architecture Institute. It aims to serve professionals, academics, and individuals working in IA and related fields.
In this talk, I will discuss the importance of the FAIR principles for the software tools we use to process data. Ranging from small analysis scripts to full fledged data processing pipelines, software needs to be FAIR to enable other researchers to reproduce our own experiments and reuse our software. However software and data are fundamentally different – software is executable in nature and may have intricate dependencies. FAIR principles apply differently to software than they do to data and we must be aware of these differences. Existing initiatives such as the RDA FAIR for Research Software (FAIR4RS) working group (https://www.rd-alliance.org/groups/fair-4-research-software-fair4rs-wg) and http://fair-software.eu/ are already focused on addressing these differences and raising awareness of the importance of FAIR for software.
The “How FAIR are you” webinar series and hackathon aim at increasing and facilitating the uptake of FAIR approaches into software, training materials and cohort data, to facilitate responsible and ethical data and resource sharing and implementation of federated applications for data analysis.
The CINECA webinar series aims to discuss ways to address common challenges and share best practices in the field of cohort data analysis, as well as distribute CINECA project results. HCL Notes and Domino License Cost Reduction in the World of DLAUpanagenda
Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/hcl-notes-and-domino-license-cost-reduction-in-the-world-of-dlau/
The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible. Don’t worry, we can help with all of this!
We’ll show you how to fix common misconfigurations that cause higher-than-expected user counts, and how to identify accounts which you can deactivate to save money. There are also frequent patterns that can cause unnecessary cost, like using a person document instead of a mail-in for shared mailboxes. We’ll provide examples and solutions for those as well. And naturally we’ll explain the new licensing model.
Join HCL Ambassador Marc Thomas in this webinar with a special guest appearance from Franz Walder. It will give you the tools and know-how to stay on top of what is going on with Domino licensing. You will be able lower your cost through an optimized configuration and keep it low going forward.
These topics will be covered
- Reducing license cost by finding and fixing misconfigurations and superfluous accounts
- How do CCB and CCX licenses really work?
- Understanding the DLAU tool and how to best utilize it
- Tips for common problem areas, like team mailboxes, functional/test users, etc
- Practical examples and best practices to implement right away

awarded to our members, predominantly students from
Latin American countries and Hispanic Serving
Institutions in the US.
Awards can be used towards the cost of travel,
accommodation, registration, visa fees, or per diem
meals during the co-located conference. This makes the
difference of being able to attend or not for students
who are traditionally underfunded or coming from
developing countries.

ALGORITHM
Research Mentoring Programs Automated Matching.
This project was built for LatinX in AI to faciliate their
mentor matching program which pairs willing mentors
in industry and academia with aspiring AI engineers
(who are of a LatinX background). The system works
off of data compiled via an application form and then
out put to .xlsx files. The program is used via the CLI
and takes in data through a mentors sheet and a
mentees sheet before cleaning the data and
instantiating all applicants to mentor and mentee
objects, and then assigning mentees to mentors.
