Change In Linear
Change in linear. It s a consequence of moving forward. You can have positive and negative effects,
sometimes no effects at all. Change is unpredictable. The texts I have chosen to analyse are the poem,
All the world s a stage by William Shakespeare which explores the change during different parts of
one man s life and the stages he goes through. The second text is the movie Star Trek (2009) is a sci fi
themed movie about a rebellious young man named James T. Kirk whose life was changed by the faith
of a Starfleet captain who sees in the rash youth the special qualities that a member of Starfleet must
possess to succeed in the challenging and often dangerous world their profession puts them in. I
believe that the texts I have chosen display ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In All the world s a stage Shakespeare writes of a man who has a negative attitude towards growing up
and life in general. This is shown through the negative words that Shakespeare uses to describe his
life. For instance: even at the earliest stage, At first the infant, mewling and puking in the nurse s arms
is shown being bad? Analyse the quote, write the effect. Why did Shakespeare write it like this? Due
to the man s attitude toward change and growing up he experiences life at its worst, remembering only
the bad experiences. In contrast Star Treks entire franchise is based on learning news ideas, embracing
different cultured, moving forward and accepting change. It s only when you look closer you see
individuals that are struggling the accept change or try to become better. We see this in James T. Kirks
beginning when he lives in Iowa and is basically a drop out with no prospects though really smart.
Kirks own change over a short period of time results in him being an overall better person, Kirk s
attitude towards change is a determined positive one, as seen in his hearing, I don t believe in no win
scenarios where Kirk changes a no win test so it s winnable. Kirk changes also had a tragic backstory,
his father dying when he young and living with an abusive step father. The previous texts character
did not have the excuse of a tragic backstory and yet he still looked on the world with disgust. Kirk

The Characteristics And Features Of Mutual Funds
1.1 General Introduction
The term investment refers to the commitment of funds made with an expectation of some positive
returns. Two essentials aspects of investment are that firstly it involves waiting for returns, and
secondly it involves an element of risk of not getting what is expected of the investment. Basically
investment means purchase of financial asset that yield a return, which is proportionate to risk
assumed over some future period of time.
In finance, investment means buying securities or other monetary or paper (financial) assets in the
money markets or capital markets, or other in fairly liquid real assets, such as good as an investment,
real estate or collectibles with a view to earn some gain over a period of time.
1.2 Features of Investment
All the investment have the following features:

Risk

Professional Management
Mutual Funds provide the services of experienced and skilled professionals, backed by a dedicated
investment research team that analyses the performance and prospects of companies and selects
suitable investments to achieve the objectives of the scheme.
2. Diversification
Mutual Funds invest in a number of companies across a broad cross section of industries and sectors.
This diversification reduces the risk because seldom do all stocks decline at the same time and in the
same proportion. You achieve this diversification through a Mutual Fund with far less money than you
can do on your own.
3. Convenient Administration
Investing in a Mutual Fund reduces paperwork and helps you avoid many problems such as bad
deliveries, delayed payments and follow up with brokers and companies. Mutual Funds save your time
and make investing easy and convenient.
4. Return Potential
Over a medium to long term, Mutual Funds have the potential to provide a higher return as they invest
in a diversified basket of selected securities.

Alcoholics Anonymous Support Group
In the United States, there are many support groups and programs available to individuals seeking
recovery from hardships, addictions, or struggles. Members with similar experiences meet together to
encourage, advise, and provide support for one another in order to promote recovery. One well known
support group, Alcoholics Anonymous, is a 12 step program a support group that applies a series of 12
steps in order to achieve recovery. 12 step programs and support groups can be spotted almost
anywhere, including at churches, medical facilities, as well as in schools. AA s 12 step program and

Fox News Article Analysis
Summary: I read two articles for this assignment; one was from The New York Times and the other
from Fox News. The New York Times is a mainly liberal news site, while Fox News is very openly
conservative. The subject of each of these articles focused on Ahmed Mohammed, of Irving, Texas, a
boy who built a functioning clock and brought it to show his engineering teacher, and was later on in
the day arrested for it by another teacher who suspected that it might have been a bomb. This topic has
been circle the news currently and Ahmed has gained support from Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton,
Mark Zuckerberg, and many other big names in power, politics, and science. Reflection: Just as
Americans in present day hold suspicion and stereotypes towards ... Show more content on

Fernandez and Hauser use many direct quotes from Ahmed Mohamed, Barack Obama, Josh Earnest,
Ahmed s father, and many others involved in this case. This source is very credible as it is written by
two authors, so it isn t hugely biased in anyway as it contains two individual perspectives (however
they are very similar perspectives). Because the story contains direct quotes from different
perspectives (i.e. the Irving police chief versus Josh Earnest) it shows the whole story and not just one
side of it. I initially chose this article only because I thought it was such a pure and credible source.
However I then decided to choose a source that was quite the opposite so that I could obtain a better
understanding of different perspective. The Fox News article used many quotations from political
figures and sources trying to condemn Ahmed. Some of their quotes were very illogical and didn t
have much to do with the situation. Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin blasted Obama over his
involvement in the clock controversy on Saturday, saying in a Facebook post his remarks were about
as presidential as a selfie stick. (Fox News). I think that it s important to analyze two different
perspectives regarding an issue, and all though the article in the New York Times was far more
credible, I learned more about the issue by reading

Steven Truscott s Wrongful Conviction
Introduction
14 year old Steven Truscott gave his classmate Lynne Harper a ride on his bicycle on June 9, 1959.
Truscott had dropped her off before they parted ways. Lynne was reported missing later that night, and
two days later, her body was found on a nearby farm. She was sexually assaulted and strangled to
death. The community was horrified by what happened to this young girl and everyone was
determined to find the killer. Immediately, investigators became fixated on Truscott as the prime
suspect since he was the last person to see Lynne. They didn t consider any other suspects, even
though there was no physical evidence linking him to the murder. He was arrested 24 hours later, and
stood trial as an adult. (Steven Truscott | ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This case is of interest to both myself and society because Truscott was wrongly convicted based on
the limited scientific knowledge available in 1959, and the police s tunnel vision. They were so
adamant on finding the killer that they became fixated on Truscott as the only suspect, and did t bother
widening their search. Because of this, evidence was tampered to frame Truscott. What happened to
Truscott was a miscarriage of justice, which affects society s confidence in the legal system, and it
undermines the criminal justice system s legitimacy.
This case is also of interest because the actual perpetrator was not convicted, because the scientific
techniques that were used in 1959 were so limited. By looking at this, we can clearly see how far
forensic science has come in the past 50 years, and how different the outcome of the case would have
been had this had taken place in the present. We can revisit this old murder case and identify different
scientific tools that we could use today to solve the crime. We can also see how applying the
knowledge we now know about the human body and forensic science can help to exonerate the
innocent, like it did with Truscott, and even help to find the real culprit.
Scientific Methods Used and Evaluation of those Methods
In the 1950s and 1960s, there were many limitations on the science and methodology used in
investigations, because there was a lack of knowledge. For example, forensic

The Pros And Cons Of European Soft Power
If we look at our world today and at our world seventy years ago we will observe many changes that
world has had. Technological progress, climatic change, increasing process of globalization, view
toward politics and international relations. A couple of years ago hard power was dominated in
conducting foreign policy and managing international relations. As years go on, old methods of
politics are becoming irrelevant, inapplicable and sometimes even dangerous. However, some states,
as the USA, still used to think that hard power is quite good mean of conducting politics, while
Europe is considered to be the incarnation of soft power.
The term soft power was first implemented by Joseph S. Nye in 1990. Later he described soft power
in his book Soft Power: The Means to Success in World Politics as the ability to get what you want
through attraction rather than coercion or payments (Nye, 2004).
Although term soft power was implemented only two decades ago, clear examples of it were observed
earlier. For instance, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay On American Persona
The American Persona
To be considered an American, individuals do not have to be white, blond hair, blue eyes, and tall. Nor
do green cards or legal statues make a true American. The persistence of an individual is what truly
makes up the American Persona. As history has been repeated, Americans do whatever possible to
thrive, they may take a break but, they never give up. The American dream is what many foreigners
would desire to have. America is not only made up of whites but, the many different cultures of
foreigners who had traveled to the Americas.
To be a member of the American society an individual must be an active participant in the system.
One must go out and vote for what they believe is better for themselves and the economy. In the case
of Armed Forces, members must be willing to put their own lives at risk for the better of the
Americans. These beliefs and active roles have shaped America into one of the best global leading
economies. Each American plays a major role in the American system some of them form part of the
labor force and some others form the elite. However, in some instances individuals are not effective
enough to impact the economy, and they become useless. Furthermore, social security number, and
legal status does not define Americans, instead their beliefs, knowledge, and capacity of individuals is

The Negative Effects Of Office Beliefs In The Workplace
Office gossip is one of the worst problems that can happen in the workforce. When an employee tries
to spread a rumor or something that an employee did, it can have a negative effect in the work space.
There are multiple ways that office gossip can happen and there are ways to remedy the situation as
well. Unfortunately, office gossip is something that cannot be avoided as it is human nature to bring
rumors into the office. There are, however, ways to avoid the situation. Most workers would choose to
avoid talking with others and not sharing their personal life with fellow coworkers. While it is
acceptable to avoid talking about personal lives with other staff, keeping to themselves do not make an
effective team. The first way to avoid office gossip is simple, but not as easy. It involves not starting
the rumor in the first place. By not starting rumors in the first place, there would be no problems in the
first place. Because rumors start from somewhere, then there is a problem already in the office. For
example, if I was an employee looking to get a promotion with better pay, but was in competition with
another coworker, it stands to reason that I would do anything I can to get the promotion. But when
my competition learned that I did something that the management would frown upon, he starts
spreading it across the office space in an attempt to break my chances of obtaining the promotion. If
the bosses found out, not only would I lose the promotion, there is now a

Multiculturalism In The Brady Bunch And Modern Families
What is Multiculturalism? Multiculturalism is the presence of distinct cultural or ethnic groups within
a society. Multiculturalism plays a big part in teenagers as well as adults life s. For example the two tv
shows The Brady Bunch and Modern Family have different cultural lenses and cultures causing them
to view multiculturalism as well as diversity in different perspectives.
The Brady Bunch is a show that came about in the late 60 s. The Brady Bunch is about a man named
Brady with three sons meets a woman named Carol with three children of her own. This man and
woman get married making them one big happy family, with a maid to help out. Living in a four
bedroom two bath house in the suburbs, having boy problems and sharing bathrooms. The Brady
Bunch family culture is having a maid to take care of the children. This can be a culture that the
parents received when they were younger, passing it onto their children. Another culture that The
Brady Bunch have is being close to one another. For example if one of the children are dealing with a
situation they would talk to their parent s or a sibling about it. The Brady Bunch family don t hide
their situations. They can also be labeled as close because they eat dinner together at the table like the
typical white american family. Another culture that The Brady Bunch have is having consequences for
their actions. For example in one of the episodes the oldest son did not do what he said he was going
to do so in return his parents

Spectrum Of Autism
Autism is one of the most common, yet misunderstood disorders of the modern age. Most Americans
do not have a clear understanding of possible causes, what Autism actually is nor possible cures or
treatments of this disorder. An incredibly important step towards the better understanding of this
disorder is having the basic facts available for the common man, presented in a way that is easy to
understand, and easier for parceling out in small components. The fundamental components of the
facts necessary to understand and potentially one day eliminate autism include, understanding what
the autistic spectrum is, what the possible causes of autism are, as well as past and present treatments.
Before any true discussion of autism can begin, an individual ... Show more content on

One of the most studied is the idea of environmental issues causing Autism. Several metals, such as
mercury, lead, chromium and aluminum have been linked to cases of Autism around the world
(Mohamed, et al. U.S. National Library of Medicine) An unfortunate side effect of these findings was
the spread of misunderstanding of the ways that these environmental factors come into play with
Autism sufferers and led to the rise of individuals becoming concerned about links between vaccines
and Autism. While these links have since been debunked, they still are present and detract from actual
research in the environmental causes of Autism. Once the baseless speculation and confusion on what
are and are not environmental issues that can cause Autism are more widely published and have a
greater acceptance, scientists can focus on testing and experimentation on what we can do to either
nullify or remove harmful environmental factors. However, the idea of removing these heavy metals
has worked in some individuals with autism, but the success rate varies from case to case.

Pacific Bluefin Tuna Research Paper
A single Pacific bluefin tuna sells at auction for more than $100,000 (Arnold, 2012). The Pacific
bluefin tuna is one of the most popular fish consumed in the world eaten mainly in sushi. In 2010
alone, the United States consumed twenty four percent of the tuna consumed by the entire population.
Due to its increasing growth in popularity the demand for wild bluefin tuna has caused the species to
drastically decline to about 2 percent of its original percent population causing it to become
endangered. Due to the drop in the amount of wild bluefin tuna left there have been serious changes to
the ocean s ecosystem. The Pacific blue fin tuna is one of the top predators in the pacific oceans food

Abstract:
In the recent time, there will be an increasing need to provide application platforms such as internet
deployment for areas without infrastructure, wireless video streaming between moving objects, data
exchange between office equipment etc. These applications can be solved with the help of wireless ad
hoc networks that can be realized e.g., with Wi Fi protocols. The question arises, what theoretical
throughput different wireless standards can achieve, and how much the throughput will decrease when
data has to be transferred over several hops. This is a technology that enables un tethered wireless
networking environments where there is no wired or cellular infrastructure. Wireless Ad hoc Networks
since then is a fast developing research area with a vast spectrum of applications. Wireless sensor
network systems enable the reliable monitoring of a variety of environments for both civil and military
applications
This paper provides an overview of wireless technologies which can be used in ad hoc scenarios, their
limitations and applications involved in this mechanism.

The Customers Revenge
The Customer s Revenge
We have all been somewhere in a store or dealership when there was an irate and unhappy customer
looming in our presence. They were obviously upset about something and generally draw a lot of
negative attention to themselves and to the company. Luckily for companies, just a few short years
ago only a few customers out of hundreds, thousands, or millions would have seen the negative effects
of the incident, but in current times almost everyone has a camera phone that records videos and it
only takes a matter of seconds for videos like that to go viral on some social media network. Because

When a company treats its customers with respect the products and brands tend to sell themselves
because customer satisfaction and trust in the brand rises. When customers shop where they can trust
they will be taken care of they tend to be repeat customers and give positive word of mouth. To
accompany new policy changes, the company needs to have workshops or employee meetings on the
changes for everyone involved in every aspect of customer service. These employees must know how
to handle individual customer s problems and learn that each case is different and that there can never
be one generalized way to solve someone s problem. Customer service representatives must learn to
handle each case individually and treat the customer as fairly as possible. The three main focuses of a
changed policy is to, first, make sure that the implemented policy was just and fair to both customers
and the company, secondly, notify customers of the changes and provide them with a way to have any
questions answered, and lastly, set a deadline to re evaluate the policy and make changes as needed. If

Main Sources Of Employment Of The United Kingdom
The purpose of this briefing paper is to describe the main sources of employment legislation in the
United Kingdom (UK), give a good understanding on employment contracts and explain the role and
scope of trade unions. Sources of employment regulations In the United Kingdom are three main
sources of UK employment law: the common law, statute and European Unionlaw.Common law (also
known as case law)is law developed by judges through decisions of courts and similar tribunals, as
opposed to statutes adopted through the legislative process or regulations issued by the executive
branch. The European Unionhas had a significant influence over UK employment law rights through
European Directives implemented and decisions of the European Court of Justice. Directives are
legislative instruments that require the UK (and other member states of the EU) to translate the
contents of the Directive into national law. In addition, there is a substantial amount of secondary
legislation in the form of regulations which contain further provisions which affect the employment
relationship. In some cases the legislation is supported by Codes of Practice drawn up by various
government agencies. Although the Codes do not have direct legal effect, they are often, and in some
cases have to be, taken into account by Employment Tribunals when deciding whether an employer
has complied with its statutory obligations. Contract of employment The contract of employmentsets

In this song, Macklemore addresses the extensive amount of drug abuse in the rap industry, and the

The Expansion of Computer Knowledge
Since the advent of silicon chips and microprocessors the worldwide demand for computers has
skyrocketed. Computer scientists around the world are pushing the boundaries of what is considered
possible in their field by making their creations more sophisticated and capable year by year. Artificial
Intelligence (A.I) is the idea of a computer system that can display acts of intelligence and
independent thought similar to humans. Many people approach the prospect of artificial intelligence
with fear and caution but for intrepid computer scientists true artificial intelligence is the ultimate
goal. People are reaching an ever more symbiotic relationship with computers and as the world moves
forward the question must be posed: Will computer intelligence ever eclipse our own?
Gordon E. Moore, the Intel co founder, stated in 1965 that the number of transistors on a one inch
diameter of silicon doubles every X number of months (X is taken to be between 18 and 24 months).
The aptly named Moore s Law now forms the basis of the semi conductor industry and its prediction
has proved remarkably accurate. Put simply, computers get twice as fast every two years. The
incredible advancement of computers processing power can be interpreted as indicating an inevitable
future where computers outstrip people. The issue with this assertion is that it makes the assumption
that increases in progress will stay constant; even the semi conductor industry acknowledges that the
speed at which processing

The Philosophy Of Science And Science
Before this class began, I thought of myself as a person who tended to lean towards science as fact
based and found it hard to believe in some philosophical and religious claims that were not backed up
by experimentation and evidence. Five weeks later, my views haven t changed drastically, but have
instead been developed and broadened. I now understand the importance of the philosophy of science
and why philosophy and science should be interconnected. The need to question things that may
appear to be factual is something I now consider more than ever crossed my mind before this course.
At the beginning of the course, starting in Lecture One, we discussed the problem of knowledge and
the nature of scientific knowledge. The problem of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Examples like the theory of Plate Tectonics or the Alvarez Theory of mass extinction are cited as
examples of theory acceptance and when it is appropriate. The overarching theme from Losee is that
there are no rules that can objectively decide the acceptance or rejection of a new theory. This is a
confusing aspect of science, but is reflected in the history of scientific discoveries and those theories
we still hold to be true. Some theories are not necessarily confirmed, but are at the very least agreed
upon from empirical observations. By Lecture Four we covered multiple conceptions of method.
Method is central to the scientific enterprise. The founders of modern science were looking for an
impersonal, objective basis for their knowledge claims. This was coming at a time when science was
separating from religion based belief systems. Method is crucial to determining truth and developing
scientific hypotheses. Without a method in place, the goal of objectivity within science is
compromised. Method is discussed throughout the entirety of Losee s book. Losee generously
discusses theory acceptance, rejection, falsification, and replacement. He aims to show the method
behind these based on historical accounts in science, but as stated before, there is no set group of rules
that govern this. Instead the development of hypotheses and theories that we take are integrated,
comprehensive explanation of many facts. These hypotheses and

Tell me, would you kill a person because his eye happened to annoy you? In Edgar Allen Poe s story,
The Tell Tale Heart, that is precisely what the narrator does. He is insane, and he is not to be trusted
with the information he is presenting based on things he does or hears. I heard all things in the heaven
and in the earth. I heard many things in hell (1). This evidence proves my claim that the narrator is
mad, and because he is mad, the things he tells us, are just things that he is envisioning. In this quote
the narrator says he hears things from hell. Which is not possible. He thinks that he is hearing things
from hell, but in reality, all the sounds are in his head. He is imagining sounds from hell something
sane people do not do. Some more evidence is, My head ached, and I fancied a ... Show more content

He had the eye of a vulture a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood
ran cold; and so by degrees very gradually I made up my mind to take the life of the old man (2). This
citation shows the narrator wanting to kill the old man. Killing a person does not convey that he is
insane and that his story is not to be believed. What does show that he is mad, is the reason for killing
the old man. His cause for committing murder is that the man s eye was bothering him. This is
definitely not what a sane person kills someone over. The last piece of evidence I will present is, I
foamed I raved I swore! I swung the chair upon which I had been sitting, and grated it upon the
boards, but the noise arose over all and continually increased. It grew louder louder louder! (17). He is
hearing it extremely loud in his ears now. This can only mean one thing he is mad. The narrator is
yelling and swearing when he can just ask the officers if they hear something. Either way, they would
say no, because he is visualizing the sound in his

Mad Cow Disease Essay
Mad Cow Disease Bovine spongiform encephalophathy ( BSE), which is mainly known as mad cow
disease has infected the society and has put the lives of individuals at risk. This was very frightening
to the people that ate meat during that time. The terrified people would not even want to eat

Canada also exported most of its meat to the United States, and at
that time it was the world s largest beef importing country. The US also had a case of mad cow disease
on December 23, 2003. This horrible disease is a chronic, degenerative disorder that affects the central
nervous system of cattle. The infected cow was from
a farm in Washington. After killing the cattle, it was sold out with out the owner s knowledge that the
cow was infected with the deadly disease. Right when the US department of agriculture (USDA)
found out, they launched an emergency investigation that involved the United States and Canada.
Canada and the States had a goal which

Some people say that all slaughtered cows should be tested, but the problem is that many of these
cows are very young and the disease will not show up in the cows until they have reached 30 months
of age. DeHaven also said that This is a disease with a very long incubation period typically three to
eight years. He also states that To suggest that we would test all animals regardless of age at slaughter
is not consistent with the science and what we know about the disease. A professor at the University of
Maryland says that the disease will replicate in some tissue parts of the body during incubation

Walter Mitty Comparison
The short story The Secret Life of Walter Mitty by James Thurber share similarities to the romantic
comedy The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, the movie, but they also contain many differences.* The
short story tells a tale of a man escape reality whilst the movie displays the man daydreaming to
enhance reality. Similarly, Walter Mitty in both stories is a man that daydreams to a big extent. His
daydreams always involve women as the root cause. In the short story, Walter attempts to daydream
fun things to escape the terrible situation between him and his wife and the movie depicts him
daydreaming to fantasize a life with himself and his crush. To compare, both Walters daydream have

Lee Harvey Oswald was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on October 18, 1939, and was raised in

eventually put into detention, where his social worker described him as emotionally detached like a

that he used to read about in New York. He joined the U.S. Marines in 1956 and became a good
marksman, but was martialed twice for having an illegal weapon and displaying violent behavior. He
later ended his military service and traveled to Moscow where he informed russian authorities that he
wanted to join the Soviet Union. Dissatisfied with life in the Soviet Union, Oswald left a year after
marrying Marina Prusakova in 1961, bringing her and their newborn daughter with him. Their young

Stainless Steel Tips
Stainless steel is a type of metal made by combining a small amount of chromium with a larger
amount of iron. It has a smooth, shiny surface that looks polished and professional. And it also
conducts heat very well. So many restaurants use tableware made from it. The stainless steel tableware
sold by Seating Expert is sturdy and strong. It easily resists most types of damage that other more
fragile metals can t withstand. However, it still has to be cared for properly to keep it looking great. So
to help, here is a list of a few tips for cleaning and polishing it.

Rub it over the rust until it disappears. Then, rinse the vinegar off right away. Don t use baking soda or

Rinse it Off
Use more hot water to rinse the stainless steel tableware. If you are washing a large stack of tableware,
don t reuse the rinse water. Run it straight from the tap instead. Otherwise, the dishes will keep getting
covered in soapy residue.
Drying and Polishing
Don t let the stainless steel tableware sit with water on it in a draining rack. It should always be dried
off immediately to prevent it from rusting. Use a clean, soft cloth for this. After all the tableware is
dried, it has to be polished. Since most polishes are toxic, it helps to use a food product like olive oil
for this. Simply dip another soft cloth in a bit of the oil, and rub it all over the metal. Only use enough
to make it sparkle. There shouldn t be a heavy coat of oil left behind on the dishes. A food grade polish

(The Importance of Labor and Labor unions 1800 1900) Prior to the American Civil War in 1861
much of American workforce was completed by slaves brought from Africa. Slave labor was used
mostly in southern agriculture. Working conditions for slaves were dismal at best with inadequate
housing, lack of food, resources and broken families. The quality of life for slaves was seldom taken
into account by slave owners as slaves were seen as property rather than people or employees. After
the Unions victory however the newly freed slaves desired to live on their own on their own land and
work for themselves. In January 1865 General William T. Sherman ... Show more content on

social change from this point forward made the most significant changes. In 1869, a labor union
known as the Knights of Labor sought to defend the common worker from poor compensation and to
improve working conditions for the working class. The idea was to literally hold the employer s
hostage by going on strike under protest until their demands had been met. During the 2nd industrial
revolution brought about an enormous surge in jobs in manufacturing and farming. This uptick in
production in all sectors and the lack of an income tax made many leaders in business extremely
wealthy. Workers believed that the distribution of the wealth was not fair and demanded they receive
their fair share. Though the wage disparity was high finding economic security and peace for workers

Why The South Killed Reconstruction
The South Killed Reconstruction After the Civil War, there was still question about who had overall
killed Reconstruction. They both had a lot to do with it, but the south had more to do with it. The
KKK was killing important people just to prove a point. Life was hard for African Americans in this
time because Southern people wanted slavery to continue even after it was abolished. African
americans were bribed to vote for who the kkk wanted. There was a lot of racism.I think the south
killed reconstruction because of bribery, the killing of scalawags and carpetbaggers, and who they
voted for. I think the South killed Reconstruction efforts by bribing African Americans They offered
me $5,000 to go with them and said they would pay me $2,500 in cash if I would let another man go
to legislature in my place. (Colby 513) This gives evidence that the KKK was bribing African
Americans to do what they wanted. They set in and whipped me a thousand licks more, with sticks
and straps that had buckles on the ends of them. (Colby 513) This shows that the KKK was beating

All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque
All Quiet on the Western Front is a short book, but remarkably deep. More than 50 years after its
jolting prose, haunting poetry, and powerful truths slashed their way into the consciousness of a
worldwide readership, All Quiet still stands at the forefront of a host of novels on that most tragic
recurrence in the history of human experience: war. All the aspects of trench warfare are present
excitement, boredom, horror, hunger, fear, dirt, alienation, imminent death, futility, to name a few. All
Quiet has a pervasive sense of uselessness, an initially unvoiced but later fully expressed question of
Just what is this war about, and why am I being put on the line for it? The answer is, of course,
nothing, and if All Quiet has but one overriding message, it is that war is awful, and young people
ought not to fight. All Quiet is not a book which glorifies the German war effort, or portrays soldiers
as heroes. In Remarque s own words, it is an attempt to give an account of a generation that was
destroyed by the war even those of it who survived the shelling. As such, it is brutal and confronting,
but in the best possible way. Anti war fiction has seldom been this effective, or this memorable for that
matter.
All Quiet tells the story of Paul Bäumer, a young man who gets talked into joining the German army
by an idealistic teacher. In short, business like sentences, Paul tells the reader about his experiences in
and around the trenches, plus those of his similarly

The Modern Era
Prestigious artists in the modern era have created highly abstract and non representational work. The
average everyday person who looks at Kandinsky, Picasso, or Duchamp may genuinely believe that
they can produce better work without any art experience. But from their lack of art history they will
not be able to produce work that has deep meaning like Picasso, or psychoanalysis of color theory like
Kandinsky.
Firstly, Kandinsky s Composition VII, initially seems messy, unorganized, or even accidental. But the
colors are not random; each color has a purpose behind it. He analyses color to the point where he
made a Basic Color Theory analysis.
For example, the yellow represents joy, happiness, satisfaction. Kandinsky says, yellow is warm,
cheeky and exciting. In life yellow is seen in nature and fast food industries. The yellow sun is
commonly preferred over a dark black sky at night; Vitamin D from the sun is necessary as it increases
biologic hormones, hence, makes a person more positive and joyous. Similarly, the McDonald s logo
of the Golden Arches is bright yellow. This color was chosen because it evokes a positive emotion.
Therefore, even though Composition VII looks like a random mess that a child could do there is
significant breakdown behind the color palette.
Understandably, kids like bright colors and various sounds. In 1923, Composition VIII by Kandinsky
presents another theory; that color and line are reflective of sound/music. The

Mexico has a poverty rate that s reported to be around 46.2% between 2012 and 2014 translating into
an increase of .07%. During this time, the Mexican Government reported that two million Mexicans
slipped into poverty. The poverty level has risen slightly due to access to education, health, clean
water and income as the basis of the problem.
Statistics show that in Latin America, Mexico is one of the only countries not showing any decreases
in poverty levels. Mexico is struggling with slow economic growth but has large disparities when it
comes to the distribution of wealth. Between 2012 and 2014 the average income earned by Mexicans

$800 US as of 2014. The disparity between top 10% of earners is that they earn 30 times more than
lower earners make Mexico.
Mexico s stagnant wages and declining purchasing power also contribute to the reality of poverty for
many Mexican nationals. Recently the Mexican government raised the daily minimum salary from
73.04 pesos to 80.04 pesos. This increase would equal to about 30 cents in US currency. The Mexican
government reports that the increase is approximately 12.8%.

Globalization Generates Poverty
What can two dollars buy you? A small coffee at Starbucks, a candy bar, bag of chips, and a soda, a

However, although globalization has helped several countries, in some developing countries, foreign

Globalization has generated significant opposition because of concerns that it has decreased wages in

Same Sex Discrimination In America
Discrimination is the practice of unfairly treating a person or group of people differently from other
people or groups of people. This idea is old as mankind itself. Since the beginning of time, people of a
certain group have discriminated against people of the other races, beliefs, sexual preferences, etc.
Some examples of equal rights movements which have occurred in America include the women s
suffrage movement, the abolishment of slavery as well as all African American civil rights
movements, and most recently, the same sex marriage movement.
The discrimination behind same sex relationships has been around for thousands of years. In America,

discrimination evolved later and more firmly in the Judeo Christian beliefs that marriage is the union
of a man and a woman and that deviance from this is a mortal sin . (Pickett). The first formal law
against homosexuality was an imperial decree in 390 AD and was posted in the Hall of Minerva; a

This was believed to be passed because the homosexual men of the imperial court were the most

actually a man but instead something of lesser importance. The Catholic Church would continue to

The Effects Of Religious Discrimination In Australia
Religious beliefs are an important aspect of many people s lives. Results of the latest national census
have revealed the religiously diverse nation that Australia has become (ABS 2017). The religious
makeup of Australia has gradually changed over the past 50 years with Hinduism, Sikhism, Islam and
Buddhism all increasingly common beliefs as can be seen in figure 1.
Religious discrimination is defined as the unfavourable treatment of a person because of his or her
religious beliefs. Furthermore, this extends to involve mistreatment of someone due to their marriage
to or association with an individual of a particular religion (EOC 2014; pers. comm. Cooper 2017).
Whilst Australia s religious diversity begins to grow so too does the concern of the reported incidents
of religious discrimination impacting the lives of people of many different religions in Australia. It is
important to understand the impact this discrimination has in order to address the issue.
The Effect of Religious Discrimination in Australia
A decade long national study conducted by the University of Western Sydney found that nearly half of
Australians describe themselves as having anti Muslim attitudes (Veiszadeh 2015). Islamophobia and

Legacy Of The Whitlam Government
The legacy of this government was that it instigated major changes in the social and cultural fabric of
Australia but it also challenged the philosophy of what an Australian is and what Australia

about imperialism, women s liberation, racism, ideology, religion, war, morality, social responsibility
and the natural environment were changing for a great many people throughout the world. Some

youth population and in typically ALP seats like Whitlam s own seat of Werriwa the youth population

issues that affected the youth of Australia.
Another legacy of the Whitlam Government is found in the support and improvements offered to
women. Soon after the Whitlam government came to power issues relating to rights and status of
women were either supported or addressed by the Government. This included the rights and requests
for equal pay for equal work, for maternity leave, amendments to the Public Services Act, grants for

The anti racist philosophy forwarded by the Whitlam Government marked a major change in the ALP

achievement of the Whitlam Government that effected immigration, indigenous affairs and rights,

Bartleby, The Scrivener, By Melville
Melville s short story Bartleby, the Scrivener describes the narrator as an elderly old man that wishes
to give details of the life of Bartleby the scrivener. Bartleby was a complete motionless human being
who refuses to interact with the world around him. These actions shape the short story, picking at the
viewer s mind as to why Bartleby is disconnected from society. Bartleby worked in the dead letter
office; therefore this may have triggered his inability to relate to the world around him. This
motionless docility covered his inner troubles that he withheld from the world. The narrator states I
have known very many of them, professionally and privately, and if I pleased, could relate divers
histories, at which good natured gentlemen might smile, and sentimental souls might weep (Melville).
In this statement he means that many persons might choose to smile as they find pleasure in reading
Bartleby as much as those who might weep because they find the short story to be discouraging. In the
1970 s adaptation of this short story, the narrator is one of those sentimental souls who weeps for
Bartleby. However, as the narrator eventually becomes speechless to Bartleby preferring not to do his
work, he also brings to life the humor of Bartleby s story. Unlike the sympathetic and sometimes
humorous narration of the short story and 1970 adaptation, the 2001 adaptation of Bartleby s story
presents Bartleby as a terrifying and strange man. In Melville s short story

Energy Demand
The need for energy is a dominant, driving the force of the world. Paralleling population growth,
energy demand cannot be supported by fossil fuels, a limited resource with negative impacts on the
environment. Currently, Global energy consumption is approximately 78% fossil fuels and 19%
renewables. It is critical that the ratio continues to shift in favor of renewables. With the transition to
using more renewable energy sources, it is imperative to fully understand each energy source and the
impact it has on the world. Bagasse derived methanol is a potential sustainable fuel source that may
largely shape the future. Despite its strengths and potential as a biofuel, bagasse derived methanol s
shortcomings should not be overlooked. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It involves taking the biomaterial waste from the processing of another biomass and turning it into a
useable fuel. Theoretically, dependent on the sustainable harvest of sugarcane, there is nearly a
limitless supply of bagasse derived methanol. For the one mega joule of fossil fuel energy that goes
into production, eight mega joules of methanol are yielded. This output/input index suggests it to be a
highly renewable fuel

The Miraculous Account Of Jesus Essay
In the bible, the miraculous account of Jesus transfiguration atop a high mountain with three of His
disciples was recorded in each of the Synoptic Gospels (Matt 17:1 9; Mark 9:2 10; Luke 9:28 36). In
the text we see the three disciples, known as the inner circle, are going up this high mountain with
Jesus to pray. The disciples, Peter, James, and John have just been told a week prior to this event about
Jesus suffering, death at the cross, and His resurrection. While praying atop that mountain, Jesus
appearance changed. His glorified form of the heavenly light was shining like that from around the
throne of God. His garments also became white as light, gleaming with radiance. When speaking of
the word transfiguration, the word transfigure speaks of a total transformation not merely a change in
outward appearance. Jesus transfiguration while in prayer on that mountain was intensely striking. He
became so bright in appearance that He was difficult to look upon. Matthew 17:2 of the New
American Standard Bible states, and He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the
sun, and His garments became as white as light. With the transfiguration, Moses and Elijah appear
with Jesus and speak to Him. In the book of Matthew chapter seventeen verse five, a cloud surrounded
them and a voice said, This is My Son, whom I have chosen, whom I love; listen to Him! The cloud
then lifted, Moses and Elijah disappeared, and Jesus was alone again with His

Salary Wages In Corrections
On a cold, bitter morning standing in a yard watching people move about, the wind stirs fallen leaves
on the ground. Offenders move to the place they are to be. A thought pops into the head of the officers
watching the yard; was this the right choice. Then a fight breaks out, time to go to work. This is a
question that everyone thinks about as they examine their career choices. In Roth s book The
Achievement Habit, it reads that the road is not always straight but with curves and turns intersect it.
Of all the different problems in the Department of corrections in the state of Colorado, most people
believe that salary wages are the biggest problem; but actually the biggest problem is staff shortages.
This is the basics of what a correctional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An increase in wages would solve a great many things when it comes to corrections. It would in fact
help with staffing issues people would line up for the job. It would allow correctional officers to live
better than before. It would allow for many things to happen and help the correctional officer out.
Increased wages would help a lot, but there are down falls. With increased wages would also increase
costs for food, housing and supplies. The pool that it would create for staffing needs be full of poor
inappropriate candidates for the job. It would also being about unnecessary hardships and burdens on

Gravity Roads and Gravity Hills
Have you ever dreamed about going up into space feeling the weightlessness without gravity? While
not everyone can have such an opportunity, there are still places that ignore the rules of gravity.
Gravity hills allow all types of objects to travel uphill. What are they? How do they work? If you park
your car at the bottom of these roads, then place it in neutral, your car will begin to travel upward. The
same process works for water, tennis balls, pop cans or basically anything. Gravity hills seem like a
dream come true, but this is all just smoke and mirrors, an optical illusion. The discoveries of these
hills happened very gradually. There was no specific time or place. Every hill has their own story of a
new mystical place that defies gravity. When a gravity hill was discovered it would begin with news
casts. Then, someone would buy the property making it into a showplace for people to come and visit.
There many places that have been long since discovered, and probably many more yet to be found.
This may all seem too good to be true. Well, it is. There were many experiments conducted, trying to
figure out how these hills work. At first people believed that they was a magnetic force pulling their
car upward, but how does that explain the tennis ball and the water traveling upward? Scientist finally
came upon the discovery of how our own eyes are tricking us. We see uphills easier then we see a
downhill. To prove this scientists set up 3 boards, the one in the middle is

Keeping The Children Safe At The School Grounds
In the villages, the elders are composing different tactics to keep the children safe in the school
grounds. A parent explained to a Human Rights Reporter how his village tried to protect students at
their school from an M23 attack: There were rumors that the [M23] were preparing an attack on the
school so that they could get the children for military service. So we got together, all of the parents,
and put in place a security alert system where we left two parents outside the school and two others
along the road from where the fighters came. As soon as one of those who went to check on the
movement of [M23 forces] saw fighters coming our way, they would run to alert us, and we would go
straight to the school director and tell him to let ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Human Rights Watch, The Congolese state also guarantees under the Child Protection
Law, the protection, education, and care of children affected by armed conflict, civil unrest, or
tensions. Indeed, any child is to be considered in difficult circumstances and therefore to benefit from
special protection if he or she either attends no educational establishment or exercises no professional
activity (Gilchrist et al.). Any individual accused of violating the law is prosecuted before military
tribunals in Congo.
The Law of Armed Conflict (The International Humanitarian Law) states that under, Protocol II to the
Geneva Conventions, applicable during non international armed conflicts, it is a fundamental
guarantee that children shall receive an education, in keeping with the wishes of their parents ...
Protocol II prohibits states and non state armed groups from recruiting or using children under the age
of 15 in armed conflict (Gilchrist et al.). The Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC)
would prosecute any group or individual who violates The Law of Armed Conflict, which would
result in war crime charges. In 2006 Ituri Military Tribunal convicted Ives Kahwa Panga Mandro (
Chief Kahwa ) with six charges, including the war crime of intentionally directing attacks against a
primary school, a church, and a medical center (Coursen Neff).
Individuals from the different armed groups are being prosecuted for their illegal actions.

Due to the man s attitude toward change and growing up he experiences life at its worst, remembering only the bad experiences. Two essentials aspects of investment are that firstly it involves waiting for returns, and secondly it involves an element of risk of not getting what is expected of the investment. Basically investment means purchase of financial asset that yield a return, which is proportionate to risk assumed over some future period of time. In finance, investment means buying securities or other monetary or paper (financial) assets in the money markets or capital markets, or other in fairly liquid real assets, such as good as an investment, real estate or collectibles with a view to earn some gain over a period of time. 1.2 Features of Investment All the investment have the following features: Return Risk Safety Liquidity ... The New York Times is a mainly liberal news site, while Fox News is very openly conservative. The subject of each of these articles focused on Ahmed Mohammed, of Irving, Texas, a boy who built a functioning clock and brought it to show his engineering teacher, and was later on in the day arrested for it by another teacher who suspected that it might have been a bomb. Because the story contains direct quotes from different perspectives (i.e. the Irving police chief versus Josh Earnest) it shows the whole story and not just one side of it. I initially chose this article only because I thought it was such a pure and credible source. However I then decided to choose a source that was quite the opposite so that I could obtain a better understanding of different perspective. The Fox News article used many quotations from political figures and sources trying to condemn Ahmed. Some of their quotes were very illogical and didn t have much to do with the situation. Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin blasted Obama over his involvement in the clock controversy on Saturday, saying in a Facebook post his remarks were about as presidential as a selfie stick. Truscott had dropped her off before they parted ways. Lynne was reported missing later that night, and two days later, her body was found on a nearby farm. She was sexually assaulted and strangled to death. The community was horrified by what happened to this young girl and everyone was determined to find the killer. Immediately, investigators became fixated on Truscott as the prime suspect since he was the last person to see Lynne. They didn t consider any other suspects, even though there was no physical evidence linking him to the murder. He was arrested 24 hours later, and stood trial as an adult. (Steven Truscott | ... They were so adamant on finding the killer that they became fixated on Truscott as the only suspect, and did t bother widening their search. Because of this, evidence was tampered to frame Truscott. What happened to Truscott was a miscarriage of justice, which affects society s confidence in the legal system, and it undermines the criminal justice system s legitimacy. This case is also of interest because the actual perpetrator was not convicted, because the scientific techniques that were used in 1959 were so limited. By looking at this, we can clearly see how far forensic science has come in the past 50 years, and how different the outcome of the case would have been had this had taken place in the present. We can revisit this old murder case and identify different scientific tools that we could use today to solve the crime. We can also see how applying the knowledge we now know about the human body and forensic science can help to exonerate the innocent, like it did with Truscott, and even help to find the real culprit. Scientific Methods Used and Evaluation of those Methods In the 1950s and 1960s, there were many limitations on the science and methodology used in investigations, because there was a lack of knowledge. When an employee tries to spread a rumor or something that an employee did, it can have a negative effect in the work space. There are multiple ways that office gossip can happen and there are ways to remedy the situation as well. Unfortunately, office gossip is something that cannot be avoided as it is human nature to bring rumors into the office. There are, however, ways to avoid the situation. Most workers would choose to avoid talking with others and not sharing their personal life with fellow coworkers. While it is acceptable to avoid talking about personal lives with other staff, keeping to themselves do not make an effective team. The first way to avoid office gossip is simple, but not as easy. It involves not starting the rumor in the first place. By not starting rumors in the first place, there would be no problems in the first place. Because rumors start from somewhere, then there is a problem already in the office. For example, if I was an employee looking to get a promotion with better pay, but was in competition with another coworker, it stands to reason that I would do anything I can to get the promotion. But when my competition learned that I did something that the management would frown upon, he starts spreading it across the office space in an attempt to break my chances of obtaining the promotion. Main Sources Of Employment Of The United Kingdom The purpose of this briefing paper is to describe the main sources of employment legislation in the United Kingdom (UK), give a good understanding on employment contracts and explain the role and scope of trade unions. Sources of employment regulations In the United Kingdom are three main sources of UK employment law: the common law, statute and European Unionlaw.Common law (also known as case law)is law developed by judges through decisions of courts and similar tribunals, as opposed to statutes adopted through the legislative process or regulations issued by the executive branch. The European Unionhas had a significant influence over UK employment law rights through European Directives implemented and decisions of the European Court of Justice. Directives are legislative instruments that require the UK (and other member states of the EU) to translate the contents of the Directive into national law. In addition, there is a substantial amount of secondary legislation in the form of regulations which contain further provisions which affect the employment relationship. In some cases the legislation is supported by Codes of Practice drawn up by various government agencies. Computer scientists around the world are pushing the boundaries of what is considered possible in their field by making their creations more sophisticated and capable year by year. Artificial Intelligence (A.I) is the idea of a computer system that can display acts of intelligence and independent thought similar to humans. Many people approach the prospect of artificial intelligence with fear and caution but for intrepid computer scientists true artificial intelligence is the ultimate goal. People are reaching an ever more symbiotic relationship with computers and as the world moves forward the question must be posed: Will computer intelligence ever eclipse our own? Gordon E. Moore, the Intel co founder, stated in 1965 that the number of transistors on a one inch diameter of silicon doubles every X number of months (X is taken to be between 18 and 24 months). The aptly named Moore s Law now forms the basis of the semi conductor industry and its prediction has proved remarkably accurate. Put simply, computers get twice as fast every two years. This is a confusing aspect of science, but is reflected in the history of scientific discoveries and those theories we still hold to be true. Some theories are not necessarily confirmed, but are at the very least agreed upon from empirical observations. By Lecture Four we covered multiple conceptions of method. Method is central to the scientific enterprise. The founders of modern science were looking for an impersonal, objective basis for their knowledge claims. This was coming at a time when science was separating from religion based belief systems. Method is crucial to determining truth and developing scientific hypotheses. Without a method in place, the goal of objectivity within science is compromised. Method is discussed throughout the entirety of Losee s book. Losee generously discusses theory acceptance, rejection, falsification, and replacement. All the aspects of trench warfare are present excitement, boredom, horror, hunger, fear, dirt, alienation, imminent death, futility, to name a few. All Quiet has a pervasive sense of uselessness, an initially unvoiced but later fully expressed question of Just what is this war about, and why am I being put on the line for it? The answer is, of course, nothing, and if All Quiet has but one overriding message, it is that war is awful, and young people ought not to fight. Therefore, even though Composition VII looks like a random mess that a child could do there is significant breakdown behind the color palette. In the text we see the three disciples, known as the inner circle, are going up this high mountain with Jesus to pray. The disciples, Peter, James, and John have just been told a week prior to this event about Jesus suffering, death at the cross, and His resurrection. While praying atop that mountain, Jesus appearance changed. His glorified form of the heavenly light was shining like that from around the throne of God. His garments also became white as light, gleaming with radiance. When speaking of the word transfiguration, the word transfigure speaks of a total transformation not merely a change in outward appearance. Jesus transfiguration while in prayer on that mountain was intensely striking. He became so bright in appearance that He was difficult to look upon. Matthew 17:2 of the New American Standard Bible states, and He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light. With the transfiguration, Moses and Elijah appear with Jesus and speak to Him. In the book of Matthew chapter seventeen verse five, a cloud surrounded them and a voice said, This is My Son, whom I have chosen, whom I love; listen to Him! The cloud then lifted, Moses and Elijah disappeared, and Jesus was alone again with His ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Gravity Roads and Gravity Hills Have you ever dreamed about going up into space feeling the weightlessness without gravity? While not everyone can have such an opportunity, there are still places that ignore the rules of gravity. Gravity hills allow all types of objects to travel uphill. What are they? How do they work? If you park your car at the bottom of these roads, then place it in neutral, your car will begin to travel upward. The same process works for water, tennis balls, pop cans or basically anything. Gravity hills seem like a dream come true, but this is all just smoke and mirrors, an optical illusion. The discoveries of these hills happened very gradually. There was no specific time or place. Every hill has their own story of a new mystical place that defies gravity. When a gravity hill was discovered it would begin with news casts. Then, someone would buy the property making it into a showplace for people to come and visit. There many places that have been long since discovered, and probably many more yet to be found. This may all seem too good to be true. Well, it is. There were many experiments conducted, trying to figure out how these hills work. At first people believed that they was a magnetic force pulling their car upward, but how does that explain the tennis ball and the water traveling upward? Scientist finally came upon the discovery of how our own eyes are tricking us. We see uphills easier then we see a downhill. To prove this scientists set up 3 boards, the one in the middle is ...
