Islamic Golden Age Research Paper
The Islamic Golden Age was a time of development and change. This period lasted from 632 to 1258
CE. It began with the death of Muhammad and ended with the Mongols invading Baghdad. During the
time between these two major events, many things were invented and discovered, and many wars took
place. Muhammad, the final prophet of Islam, died in Medina after a short illness in 632 CE. Abu
Bakr, the father of Muhammad s favorite wife, A isha, was his successor. Abu Bakr continued with
Muhammad s teachings. He ordered the people who had written down Muhammad s teachings to
collect them into a book called the Quran. There were many Caliphs after Abu Bakr. However, due to
the split of Muslims into Shi ites and Sunnis, all except for Abu Bakr were killed. The Abbasid
Caliphate began to decline in the middle of the ninth century, when more people began to convert to
Islam. The Abbasid Caliphate fell and the Islamic Golden Age ... Show more content on

Muhammad Ibn Mūsā al Khwārizmī developed algebra and algorithms. Spherical trigonometry and
the addition of the decimal point notation to the Arabic numerals (Islamic Golden Age) were
introduced by the Muslim mathematician Sind Ibn Ali. Al Kindi introduced cryptanalysis, frequency
analysis, algebraic calculus, and proof by mathematical induction. Ibn al Haytham developed analytic
geometry and the earliest general formula for infinitesimal and integral calculus (Islamic Golden Age).
Symbolic algebra which is used today in computer sciences was developed by Abū al Hasan Ibn Alī al
Qalasādī. Arabs picked up two concepts essential to the evolution of mathematics: the place value
digit and zero. Both of these were vital to being able to do much more complex calculations than the
old system of using letters to represent numbers (Butler). Although Muslims made many
technological, medical, as well as other advancements, they also endured a great amount of

Net Neutrality Research
Our group s topic is net neutrality. The reason for choosing net neutrality as the focus of our project is
because it is a current topic in our country that is being debated about, thus making it controversial.
Because the recent repeal on net neutrality affects the majority of the people living in the United
States, the action cannot simply be ignored. Our group had many intentions in choosing our topic.
First off, we want to explain what net neutrality is in order to get rid of any misconceptions about it.
Then, we want to illustrate the effect of repealing net neutrality would have in our country. Most
importantly, we feel the need to express our opinion on net neutrality and let the audience know that
the repeal on net neutrality was a

The Importance Of An Effective Teacher
Educating is as intricate as the learning procedure is for each student. Educating is not just lecturing in
front of the class and later on give them tests to assess their knowledge. Being a teacher your style
must adapt constantly for the diversity of the children in our classroom as well as their learning styles.
To be viable in my work, planning and managing your time is crucial in setting up appropriate lesson
plans for the children. I trust that with information I have accumulated throughout the years on the
qualities of an effective teacher, I will have the capacity to arrange strategies and imaginatively design
strategies for difficulties and issues that I will experience in the classroom environment. The key to
success would be to always keep in mind the child s needs and to understand how society is evolving.
The learning process isn t the same in all children but instead it is an intricate procedure where each
student learns differently even as they get older. This occurs by the brain and its astounding ability to
recall occasions and learn things. Not all children are the same so it is important to figure out and
understand how their brain works. The brain is separated into three principle areas to be specific, the
forebrain which is in charge of the learning process, the midbrain and hindbrain. Located in the
midbrain is the cerebral cortex, which is in charge of memory, recognition and thought. Having
realized that the mind is involved in learning, it

William Domhoff s Who Rules America Essay
Reading G. William Domhoff s Who Rules America?: The Triumph of the Corporate Rich was an
intriguing and challenging experience for me. My limited knowledge base of the American political
class system mostly stems from high school US History classes and listening to my mom s stories of
her experiences in the corporate world. Therefore, I am aware that due to my prior lack of knowledge
on the topics presented in Domhoff s book, I may have misjudged some of his finer points. Part of my
struggles may be largely due to the fact that Domhoff s intended audience for Who Rules America? is
other experts in the field of understanding the sociology of the corporate elite and their resources of
power. However, I believe that the book has given me a better, if not complete, understanding of the
corporate elite and how they stay in power.
I found the book to be extremely well researched. When Domhoff presents a point, he uses several
sources and logical reasons to back up his theory. For example, when relating the dominance of the
political elite on the government, Domhoff examines the amount of influence the corporate rich have
in our judicial system by investigating the nine Supreme Court judges during the Obama
administration. He discovered that all of them graduated from one of three elite institutions: Harvard,
Yale, or Columbia (Domhoff, 178, 2014). Domhoff treats most of his assertions in a similar fashion;
he uses extensive research backs up his claims. The book explains the

Frederick Douglas And Solomon Northrup Essay
Throughout the years slaveholders made claims that justified why the institution of slavery was
acceptable, however, many abolitionist made claims that differed the majority opinion. Abolitionist
began to publicize stories advocating truths about this institution. Fredrick Douglas and Solomon
Northrup shared their life stories where they exposed their experiences as slaves in the Southern
world.Slaves holders make several arguments to justify slavery, meanwhile, slaves themselves
completely disagree with all the things the masters claim. Violence versus paternalism, true
christianity and hypocritical christianity, and the role knowledge and ignorance and whether slaves are
truly happily plays are all powerful ideas in both sides convey . To begin with, slave masters thought
of themselves as a paternal figure. George Fizhugh, an author who advocates slavery, explains this
interesting concept of Blacks being viewed as childlike people. He states the Negro is but a grown up
child, and must be governed as child, not as lunatic or criminal. The master occupies toward him the
place of parent or guardian . The masters truly believed that they were meant to be paternal to these
underprivileged folks who did not have (and in some cases, know) parents or families. They believed
they were meant to raise and care for the Blacks that entered their plantations. However, slaves told a
different story. Fredrick Douglass and Solomon Northup s experiences show how brutal and violent

Miller Beer Ads
Good Call In television commercials and magazine ads, Miller uses sex, and woman as a way to grab
your attention and to sell the product. We all have heard the saying sex sells but how far can alcohol
companies take it. In their latest commercials, Miller uses two very attractive female twins that argue
about to positive aspects for why they drink Miller. One argues she drinks it for the great taste and the
other because it s less filling. This leads to a fight between these two very sexy twins ripping each
others clothes off and wrestling around in a fountain of water; they strip each other down to just their
underwear. Alcohol advertising, especially in the broadcast media, represents the single greatest

I don t think so. If you go to the bars a lot, then you know who the drinkers are because of their big
beer belly s hanging out of their shirt. Drinking beer, if you ask me, can make a man look like he s
pregnant. The history of Miller Brewing Company began in the mid 19th century, when a determined
immigrant, Frederick John Miller, born November 24, 1824, brought his passion for beer to the United
States. Miller, who had been a renowned German brewer since 1849, arrived in the United States and
settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1855. In 1855, Miller purchased a small brewery called the Plank
Road Brewery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for $2,300. Through his determination and character,
Frederick Miller began building his own American dream barrel by barrel. He produced the finest
quality beer, made from locally grown hops and barley, and using a unique brewer s yeast that he hand
carried from Germany. (The yeast they use in our beers today is a descendant of that very yeast so
treasured by our founder!) Before his death in 1888, Frederick Miller became one of the early pioneers
of bottling beer. After his passing, Frederick Miller s immediate family members continued his legacy,
and guided the company with progressive, uncompromising character through two world wars and
prohibition. In 1903, Miller named its most popular beer, High Life, and the Champagne of Bottled
Beer was born! Today, Miller s Brewery in Milwaukee (and the historic

Kangaroos Communication
Though there is no clear and exact form in which Kangaroos (Macropus giganteus) communicate,
studies have been done which prove that these Australian creatures do in fact have prominent and
reoccurring methods of communication which help them to convey messages to one another. Whether
it is by loud foot stomping or loud screeching noises, these species are definitely capable of getting
their point across.
Both male and female kangaroos usually communicate with each other by the means of clucking
noises (Joo). They usually make these sounds in shot and quick grunts of the same reoccurring pitch
of the same reoccurring tone. The mood and message in which a kangaroo is trying to convey,
depends on how long the chucking sound lasts. The shorter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

An analysis of porters value chain
To analyse the specific activities through which firms can gain a competitive advantage, it is useful to
model the firm as a chain of value creating activities. For this purpose, Porter identified a range of
interrelated generic activities common to a wide range of firms. The resulting model is known as the
value chain.
According to Porter (1985),
Competitive Advantage arises out of the way firms organise and arrange discrete activities .
Through using the Value Chain, the activities performed by a firm competing in a particular industry
can be grouped into categories as shown in the model below:
Upstream Activities Downstream Activities
Porter distinguishes between primary activities and support activities. Primary activities are ... Show

As mentioned, gaining competitive advantage requires that a firm s value chain be managed as a
system rather than a collection of separate parts. Reconfiguring the value chain by relocation,
reordering or even eliminating certain activities can often lead to a major improvement in competitive
position.
Upstream and Downstream
A firm s value chain links to the value chains of the upstream suppliers and downstream buyers. The
result is a larger stream of activities known as the value system. The development of a firm specific
competitive advantage not only depends on the firms value chain but also on the value system of
which the firm is a part. In most industries, it is rather unusual that a single company performs all
activities from product design, production of components, and final assembly to delivery to the final
user by itself. Most often, organisations are elements of a value system or supply chain. Hence, value
chain analysis should cover the whole value system in which the organization operates.
Within the whole value system, there is only a certain value of profit margin available. This is the
difference of the final price the customer pays and the sum of all costs incurred with the production
and delivery of the product/service. It depends on the structure of the value system, how this margin
spreads across the suppliers, producers, distributors, customers, and other elements of the value
system. Each member of the system will use its

Ancient Egyptian Religion
Background of religion
Bordered by deserts, Egypt s Nile River valley was very isolated from other civilizations due to the
deserts surrounding them. This isolation continued for thousands of years. As a result, Egyptian
religion and culture remained almost untouched by the beliefs the other early civilizations at the time.
This religion consisted of thousands of gods and goddesses. Around these deities arose a rich
mythology formed that helped to explain the world to the early Egyptians.
Religion was organized into groups known as religious cults. These groups worshiped specific gods
who played a central role in their society.
Roll of Pharaohs in Religion
The king, or pharaoh, was a very important model in the ancient Egyptian religion. The ancient
Egyptians believed that the king was a divine link between humans and the gods. Since pharaohs were
considered to have a special relationship with the deities they had many responsibilities.
These responsibilities included asking the gods and goddesses to protect their land and to also keep it
prosperous. They were also responsible for supporting and organizing religious cults and for building
and maintaining temples dedicated to the gods.
Pharoh s believed that through this link the gods and goddesses kept order. The Pharaoh in some ways
was more important than any individual god. The ruler s official names and titles reflected his special
relationship to the deities, particularly to the sun god Ra and the sky god Horus. Some

Comparison Of Gilgamesh And Oedipus The King
The Epic of Gilgamesh took place in the city of Uruk Mesopotamia, and the first story appears in 2100
B.C.E. Oedipus the King came to life in the city of Thebes in 429 B.C.E. The Ramayana of Valmiki
was composed in 550 B.C.E. These three pieces of writings have distinct differences in time periods
and setting. On the other hand, a similarity that these writings share is that each has its own hero. The
time period and setting certainly have an impact in the actions that these heroes take, and the goals
they wish to accomplish. Gilgamesh (Gilgamesh), Oedipus (Oedipus the king), and Ram (Ramayan)

Active and Passive Transport of Molecules Through Plasma...
The movement of molecules have two forms of transport through the plasma membrane: active
transport and passive transport. Active processes require energy, such as ATP, in order for the
molecules to be transported. In active transport, the cell administers ATP.i Within passive processes no
energy is required and changes n pressure and concentration are the driving forces. Processes such as
simple diffusion, facilitated diffusion, osmosis, and filtration are characterized as passive transport,
while solute pumps are a form of active transport. Each of these form of transports occur in the cells
of all living organisms and are essential to life.
The process of diffusion occurs in and out of a cell when molecules travel from areas of higher ...

iii Due to the fact that water can move freely in and out of most membrane pores, it is also considered
a passive process.
Filtration is the process of which both water and solutes permeate a membrane from a region of higher
fluid (hydrostatic) pressure to an area of lower fluid pressure. iv Due to the fact that filtration is based
on pressure and the size of membrane pores, it is a passive process. Within the human body filtration
occurs in the kidney and encompasses both blood and the fluid in the kidney tubule pressures.
Active transport is a process that requires ATP in order for molecules to move. There are several
reasons why active transport is required as oppose to passive transport: substances may be too large to
pass through the membrane, substances may move against the concentration gradient as oppose to
with it, or some substances may not be lipid soluble. v Amino acids and some sugars are transported
into cells by solute pumps. An example of a solute pump is a sodium potassium pump. Within a
sodium potassium pump, both K+ and Na+ are pushed into opposite regions across the cell membrane.
Other processes that require ATP are pinocytosis and phagocytosis. Both pinocytosis and phagocytosis
occurs when the cell membrane descends beneath the material in order to create a small vesicle, then
pinches off into the cell. vi Phagocytosis is the process of cell eating, and phagocytic cells work

Secondary Headaches
A headache is a throbbing pain in the head which tends to be unilateral, spreading across the forehead
and eyes. Headache is an agonising ache which could simply be a typical pain or it could be constant
discomfort around the head which could be severe. (Wedro, 2015)
Headaches are very common with around 10 million people frequently complaining of headaches in
outpatient practice (Kaderebek, 2015). The nature of headaches varies from typical headaches to
migraines which need to be given more attention to. If the pain is relentless and is affecting their
performance it would be advised to visit a health professional, to find out the underlying issue.
Primary headaches are not a symptom but rather over activity of pain fibres in the brain. Secondary
headaches are due to an underlying problem from an illness. It is a symptom of a disease that activates
the pain fibres in the brain such as dental problems, ear infection, and dehydration. A clear example of
secondary headaches is spinal headaches which are caused by low ... Show more content on

Eskimo Mothers Campaign Analysis
In order to solidify the First Nations place as designated outsiders in their own homeland (8) the press
had to show how Indigenous people become the other when compared to the white settlers of Canada.
In comparison to the white setters presumed racial superiority, the media would use headlines and
stories that evoked images of Indians as dependent children. One specific instance of this is the federal
government s poster campaign to instruct the Eskimo mothers about how to use their newly awarded
family allowance funds by the Department of National Health and Welfare (148). This campaign
created a standard that, despite being mothers and raising children in this land for generations, the

During the Louis Riel 1885 North West Resistance, the press used their influence to shape the
narrative as an event fated to occur because, as the Gazette reported, it was inevitable that the red
skins would become the reckless, murderous devils which nature has made them in their native
conditions... [and] sooner or later it was inevitable that the red skins would make an effort to regain
control of the country, massacre and pillage the settlers (67). This description paints a picture of First
Nations as unable to escape an almost animalistic urge to kill and destroy that is engrained in their
very sense of self. In the press coverage of the 1885 Resistance, we can also see the close ties between

on the providers ability to stick to delivery schedules with reliability. If Federal Express were to exit

Ginger And The Natural Morning Sickness Remedies
Ginger And The Natural Morning Sickness Remedies
One of the most amazing fact about this herb is its power for treating morning sickness symptoms.
Several studies determined that ginger is equally as effective as vitamin B6 in treating vomiting and
nausea of pregnancy.
Because it s not advisable for your developing baby to be exposed to any drug, ginger being a herb
can be one of many safest cures for morning sickness.
Ginger tea has long been utilized for treating morning sickness in several countries. This beverage is
often made by slicing or grating moderate volume of peeled ginger roots poured with very hot water
and a few drops of honey and lemon to add flavor. In some areas of Asia, the tea is made by boiling
peeled, sliced ginger and in most cases added with brown sugar and lemon or sliced orange to
incorporate flavor.
In many studies, ginger has been verified to be more therapeutic than simply a placebo for morning
sickness and motion sickness. When other home treatments don t appear to work for you, try the
ginger tea, it s possibly all you need to get rid of the woes of morning sickness.
Vomiting and nausea could be the most terrible part of pregnancy. Even so, it can be controlled when
you understand the several natural cures for morning sickness. The therapies are probably hiding
within your kitchen. If you happen to know them, you may not have to go elsewhere.

Embracing Depression Essay
We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars. Oscar Wilde Perhaps I feel compelled
to write on the subject of depression because it is a selfish disease. It seeps into every crevice of one s
life; it refuses to be ignored, to be relegated to some obscure corner of the mind. Perhaps I m writing
about it because of what I have learned about my relationship with the disease. Perhaps the time has
come when I m ready to stop cursing the depression and start embracing it.
What I m about to say is terribly unfashionable, and I hope that you will forgive any offense that it
may cause. In all truthfulness, I m glad that I have lived with depression as a companion. ... Show

On a recent episode of ER, a physician who was deaf queried, Did you ever think that being deaf
might not be so bad? She had accepted that her deafness was a part of her life, without allowing it to
define who she was. For quite a while, I wasn t able to see my depression in that way. When it was
first diagnosed, I didn t want to admit that this was something that would affect my existence. I
wanted to rid myself of the illness immediately. As the years passed, however, I let myself become the
incarnation of the disease. Lurking at the edge of my consciousness was the thought that I should
resist the attempts to heal the depression. A part of me believed that if I let the medications and
psychotherapy take the depression away from me, I would be lost. Rather than seeing myself as a
person with depression, I saw myself as a depressed person. The distinction is subtle but significant.
I have finally reached the point where I can see both the horrors and the beauty of depression. It is
something that should be neither glorified nor reviled. I am able to hate the illness for stealing away
moments of my childhood while simultaneously appreciating the insight it has helped me to gain. Had

I have recently studied To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell, written in the 17th Century and Our
Love Now by Martyn Lowery, written in the 19th century. Attitudes to love have changed a lot since
the 17th Century. When To His Coy Mistress was written, men were in charge of the relationship. It
would take a lot longer for this relationship to progress than it would today. The man would court the
woman for months before anything progressed. He would write her letters and poems, and then

In this poem it seems like she has the final word. It is a modern poem about love.
Marvell uses different methods of persuasions. He bombards her as the poem is very long and has no
stanzas, so she has to keep reading and listening to his arguments. He has also divided the poem into
three sections. The first section is about him romancing and flattering her.
He shows his love for her by using time, place and exaggeration. Had we but world enough, and time /

Marvell using place and distance to persuade her. He tells her that she could sit by the Indian Ganges,
and he would sit by the Humber in England and wish for her. He then goes on to say, that if she
wishes; she can keep him at arms length, and that his feelings will wait until she is ready. This makes
her feel that he is not pressuring her in to anything she does not want to do. Marvell uses a lot of
exaggeration, for example I would / Love you ten years before the flood.. He is referring to the bible,

Comparison Between Routine Activities Theory And Rational...
Today s class discussion was about Rational Theories, which states that individuals make reasonable
decisions and apply them to their daily life activities. Individual make these decisions based on their
best self interest. The major points of the Rational Theory are: Routine Activities Theory, Lifestyle
Theory and Rational Choice Perspective. Routine activities theory states that the circumstances of an
individual s life is mainly decided by the daily pattern of social interaction or activities. Therefore,
depending on these routine activities criminal offenses could ascend or descent (Williams and
McShane, 2013, p. 238). Accordingly, routine activities theory is basically the type of routine a person
keeps, based on his/her circumstances. Since everyone has different routine activities, some
individuals will be more prone to criminal attacks such as robbery, rape, murder, etc. as discussed in
class. For instance, a young woman that works until 1 o clock at night, and walks home in the dark is
more vulnerable to be rob or sexual assaulted. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

higher status in society are at lower risk of victimization because they engage in less routine activities
and the places they hang around are saved. However, deprived individuals have a higher risk of being
victimized due to the environment and the interactions with criminals, as well as, the places they

There is a couple ways that a fire can be stated without matches. One of them has to be done when it is
day. It is the lens effect. That is when there old a glass lens or any kind of lens gets held up by the sun
and aimed at the fire. After a little bit it will start, but to do this it has to be the day. One more thing
you can do is rub the little pieces of wood together and after a little bit it will start. Now it is time for
the last step.
The last step is to try to keep it going. How to keep it going is to add dry wood or paper, it can help to
but all the wood should be completely dry and set with the softwood. Then make sure that there is
more wood to the side that way it can be added on to the fire. The same thing for this to the wood as to
not be green. So double check the wood before it gets put in the fire. Because if not hen it might not
work. There is a fifty fifty change that it will work, but it said on Google that it will not work.
So that is why people need to know how to build a fire with no matches. That way, if someone gets
lost in the woods, they know how to start it and to keep it going. There has been people that died
because they did not know how to start a fire with no matches. So now if someone gets lost in the

Newer Treatments For Schizophrenia Symptom Management
Newer treatments for schizophrenia symptom management focus on both the DA and the 5 HT
systems in an attempt to alleviate positive, negative and cognitive symptoms (Leucht et al., 2009;
Leucht, Wahlbeck, Hamann, Kissling, 2003). The 5 HT hypothesis of schizophrenia arose from
toxicologic explanations of mental illness that were popular in the 1950s (Osmond, 1958). Toxicologic
explanations received their inspiration from the observation that exogenous substances could produce
effects that resemble certain signs and symptoms of mental illness, such as hallucinations (Osmond,
1958). The 5 HT hypothesis arose based on the observation that hallucinogenic effects, such as those
seen with LSD administration, are mediated by 5 HT agonism, and hence, schizophrenia symptoms
likely arise from a similar mechanism (Baumeister Hawkins, 2004). However, in the 1970s, the 5 HT
hypothesis of schizophrenia was almost completely replaced by the DA hypothesis, only making a
comeback later with the proven effectiveness of the atypical antipsychotics, such as clozapine
(Baumeister Hawkins, 2004).
While the main action of typical antipsychotics is on the D2 receptor, atypical antipsychotics show
enhanced activity at 5 HT receptors with a low affinity for D2 receptors (Divac et al., 2014). Atypical
antipsychotics are more effective in reducing cognitive and negative symptoms and result in fewer
EPS than the typical antipsychotics (Davis, Chen, Glick, 2003). The high binding affinity

because my sister suffers from bulimia nervosa. I have personally witnessed my sister¹s body and

TRUST AND INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS When working in teams, is trust assumed or do
team members have to earn trust? As in all aspects in life involving people s trust is in no way just
given but obtained by earning it. Trust among individuals is dynamic and through similar experience it
is earned. Nevertheless, trust cannot be clarified exclusively through the interaction among
individuals, but also through incredibly private points of view. We are inclined to trust individuals who
we regard as trustable. The assessment about an individual s credibility or whether or not they can be

According to Msanjila and Afsarmanesh (2008), who proposed numerous resolutions for building
trust: focus on the what and not the how, define the parameter of operations, hold everyone
accountable and set some consequences. While involved in a team, individuals need to trust their
teammates in order to complete all tasks because getting the work done involves all members, which
in turn stresses cooperation and collaboration. The loss of trust will cause conflicts to arise and
members of the team will be unwilling to compromise, cooperate and agreements will never be
achieved which will jepardizes the tasks from being accomplished. If a team loses that trust it may
never truly be earned again and if it is, it takes an extraordinary amount of commitment and effort for
it to be regained. Keeping trust between individuals while working on a team, individuals must display
the expectation and standard set by the team. Each team member has to be accountable for their
actions, they need to be committed to the team and steer clear of excessively taking advantage of their
teammates. For example, deadlines will be set by the team for individual tasks according to a team
agreement; each individual needs to keep the promise to fulfill their assigned task on time as agreed. If
this does not happen, trust will possibly be lost since other members of the team are depending and
relying upon that individual s accomplishments. An additional instance

Article VI The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against
unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon
probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched,
and the persons or things to be seized. U.S. Constitutional Amendments Preface I choose the fourth
amendment for two reasons: It recognizes a right that, inevitably, cannot be taken away from a person.
It was not written out of spite, but out of experience. I personally feel like this is an issue that, had
there not been a provision in the Constitution, would have created some serious issues with the
colonists. The Fourth Amendment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This case made people think about reasoning for entering one s home. There were certain guidelines
drawn up such as murder in self defense and the allowance of a Sheriff to enter if the door is already
open). Entick v. Carrington One of the most famous cases that influenced the Fourth Amendment was
that of Entick v. Carrington. This was only one of many civil cases against officials who raided people
s homes and other places in search of materials connected with John Wilkes political pamphlets that
attack both the government and the King. Mr. Entick, who was an associate of John Wilkes, sued
because agents had entered his house forcefully and broken into desks and boxes that were locked.
They then seized pamphlets, charts, and other printed materials. The courts decided the warrant gave
the officials the right to search and seizure and the ability to issue a warrant for all a person s papers
rather than only those accused of being criminal contrary to the genius of the law of England. The
warrant was said to be invalid because it had no probable cause and no record was made of what had
been seized. The Supreme Court has said this case is a guide to understanding what the Framers meant
when writing the Fourth Amendment. Putting the Amendment to Use The reasoning for such an
amendment was obvious. What the amendment really expresses are the rights to officials and people
alike. An official

The Theory Of Egoism And Altruism
In this paper I will argue that selecting only one form of egoism is not enough to explain human
motives and that it takes a mix of several theories to explain it, specifically a mix of ethical egoism
and altruism, with the side note that intent is not important in this situation. The mix is important, as
any one theory seemingly fails to encapsulate the scope of human interactions. Pure ethical egoism,
the idea that each person should only try to help themselves, makes people out to be too greedy and
seemingly unwilling to help anyone at any point in their lives. Pure altruism, the idea that people
should use their abilities and advantages to exclusively help others, makes people too willing to
sacrifice what they have for someone else. If people were completely altruistic nothing would ever be
accomplished and eventually those advantages would become erased as people stop working to better
themselves. I also believe that the intent of the action is not important so the morality of the action
should be directly tied to the outcome, not the thought process of the person doing the action. All of
these ideas will be explained in more detail later in the paper. This paper will look at each of these
three factors individually, show why they are insufficient for explaining human motives on their own
and then explain how they can all work in conjunction to better explain human motives. This paper
will then go on to show how someone might disagree with this thesis by providing some

Indian Rebellion Research Paper
The Portuguese were the first group of Europeans to enter Indian shores under Vasco da Gama in
1498. Goa, Bombay, Daman and Diu were set up as trading posts in India by the Portuguese. Goa
remained a base until 1961, when it was seized by the Republic of India. The Portuguese were
followed by the Dutch, who set up their main base in Ceylon, present day Sri Lanka; the British with
their base in Surat and the French. Colonisation in India occurred due to the internal conflicts within
the various ruling dynasties of India. European traders established political influence and acquired
vast proportions of land, eventually controlling coastal regions of south and east India. All such
territories under the traders were eventually lost to the British ... Show more content on

The three Carnatic wars gained the British exclusive control over the Carnatic region of the country.
The Anglo wars brought the kingdom of Mysore, regions under the Maratha confederacy, kingdoms of
north east India, Punjab and north west frontier province, Nepal, Berar and the state of Oudh under
British rule. By the second half of the nineteenth century, the British had exclusive control over most
parts of the Indian subcontinent, including present day Bangladesh and Pakistan. The oppressive
British rule over India for nearly a century resulted in mass uprisings and revolts against the Company
that culminated in the Revolt of 1857. The result of this rebellion was that power over India was
transferred from the East India Company to the British Crown. The Indian Penal Code and reforms in
the field of education came into being post 1857. Under the British Raj, Indian economy and
population grew at a steady rate of 1%. At the onset of the twentieth century, Indian private industry
began to expand. Religious divisions in Indian society came to the forefront at this time; these
divisions resulted in the formation of socio religious bodies like the All India Muslim League, Akhil
Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha, Rashtriya

Cinderella, Aschenputtel, Little Saddleslut, And...
Cinderella, Aschenputtel, Little Saddleslut, and Cenerentola. These are all examples of different
versions of the same story. What is the appeal in adapting a story? Why or how is the meaning
changed for adaptations? How have stories been adapted? What effects do the stories and adaptations
have on people? There are numerous renditions of the same folktales, most differentiating due to the
fact that they were each adapted to be based on their cultures. Certain cultures alter specific aspects of
the story so that it can be more relatable to their society. However, these alterations can affect how
people interpret the meaning or purpose of the story. In Tatar s article, An Introduction to Fairy Tales,
she draws us in by describing childhood books as sacred objects. She takes a quote from Arthur
Schlesinger, Jr. describing how the stories give lessons about what a child subconsciously knows that
human nature is not innately good, that conflict is real, that life is harsh before it is happy and thereby
reassure them about their own fears and their own sense of self, (Tatar 306). She describes how many
adults long for the simplicity of enjoying those stories in their childhoods, only to realize that they
outgrew them, and instead have been introduced to reality. The original stories were more for adults
rather than for children. Nowadays, stories have been adapted to be more suitable for children. Fairy
tales may allow a kid to wonder due to their charm, but they also can

It began with the death of Muhammad and ended with the Mongols invading Baghdad. During the time between these two major events, many things were invented and discovered, and many wars took place. Muhammad, the final prophet of Islam, died in Medina after a short illness in 632 CE. Abu Bakr, the father of Muhammad s favorite wife, A isha, was his successor. Abu Bakr continued with Muhammad s teachings. He ordered the people who had written down Muhammad s teachings to collect them into a book called the Quran. There were many Caliphs after Abu Bakr. However, due to the split of Muslims into Shi ites and Sunnis, all except for Abu Bakr were killed. Educating is not just lecturing in front of the class and later on give them tests to assess their knowledge. Being a teacher your style must adapt constantly for the diversity of the children in our classroom as well as their learning styles. To be viable in my work, planning and managing your time is crucial in setting up appropriate lesson plans for the children. I trust that with information I have accumulated throughout the years on the qualities of an effective teacher, I will have the capacity to arrange strategies and imaginatively design strategies for difficulties and issues that I will experience in the classroom environment. The key to success would be to always keep in mind the child s needs and to understand how society is evolving. The learning process isn t the same in all children but instead it is an intricate procedure where each student learns differently even as they get older. This occurs by the brain and its astounding ability to recall occasions and learn things. Not all children are the same so it is important to figure out and understand how their brain works. The brain is separated into three principle areas to be specific, the forebrain which is in charge of the learning process, the midbrain and hindbrain. Located in the midbrain is the cerebral cortex, which is in charge of memory, recognition and thought. Having realized that the mind is involved in learning, it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. William Domhoff s Who Rules America Essay Reading G. William Domhoff s Who Rules America?: The Triumph of the Corporate Rich was an intriguing and challenging experience for me. My limited knowledge base of the American political class system mostly stems from high school US History classes and listening to my mom s stories of her experiences in the corporate world. Therefore, I am aware that due to my prior lack of knowledge on the topics presented in Domhoff s book, I may have misjudged some of his finer points. Part of my struggles may be largely due to the fact that Domhoff s intended audience for Who Rules America? is other experts in the field of understanding the sociology of the corporate elite and their resources of power. However, I believe that the book has given me a better, if not complete, understanding of the corporate elite and how they stay in power. I found the book to be extremely well researched. When Domhoff presents a point, he uses several sources and logical reasons to back up his theory. For example, when relating the dominance of the political elite on the government, Domhoff examines the amount of influence the corporate rich have in our judicial system by investigating the nine Supreme Court judges during the Obama administration. He discovered that all of them graduated from one of three elite institutions: Harvard, Yale, or Columbia (Domhoff, 178, 2014). Domhoff treats most of his assertions in a similar fashion; he uses extensive research backs up his claims. The book explains the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fredrick Douglas and Solomon Northrup shared their life stories where they exposed their experiences as slaves in the Southern world.Slaves holders make several arguments to justify slavery, meanwhile, slaves themselves completely disagree with all the things the masters claim. Violence versus paternalism, true christianity and hypocritical christianity, and the role knowledge and ignorance and whether slaves are truly happily plays are all powerful ideas in both sides convey . To begin with, slave masters thought of themselves as a paternal figure. George Fizhugh, an author who advocates slavery, explains this interesting concept of Blacks being viewed as childlike people. He states the Negro is but a grown up child, and must be governed as child, not as lunatic or criminal. The master occupies toward him the place of parent or guardian . The masters truly believed that they were meant to be paternal to these underprivileged folks who did not have (and in some cases, know) parents or families. They believed they were meant to raise and care for the Blacks that entered their plantations. However, slaves told a different story. The history of Miller Brewing Company began in the mid 19th century, when a determined immigrant, Frederick John Miller, born November 24, 1824, brought his passion for beer to the United States. Miller, who had been a renowned German brewer since 1849, arrived in the United States and settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1855. In 1855, Miller purchased a small brewery called the Plank Road Brewery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for $2,300. Through his determination and character, Frederick Miller began building his own American dream barrel by barrel. He produced the finest quality beer, made from locally grown hops and barley, and using a unique brewer s yeast that he hand carried from Germany. (The yeast they use in our beers today is a descendant of that very yeast so treasured by our founder!) Before his death in 1888, Frederick Miller became one of the early pioneers of bottling beer. After his passing, Frederick Miller s immediate family members continued his legacy, and guided the company with progressive, uncompromising character through two world wars and prohibition. For this purpose, Porter identified a range of interrelated generic activities common to a wide range of firms. The resulting model is known as the value chain. According to Porter (1985), Competitive Advantage arises out of the way firms organise and arrange discrete activities . As mentioned, gaining competitive advantage requires that a firm s value chain be managed as a system rather than a collection of separate parts. Reconfiguring the value chain by relocation, reordering or even eliminating certain activities can often lead to a major improvement in competitive position. Upstream and Downstream A firm s value chain links to the value chains of the upstream suppliers and downstream buyers. The result is a larger stream of activities known as the value system. The development of a firm specific competitive advantage not only depends on the firms value chain but also on the value system of which the firm is a part. In most industries, it is rather unusual that a single company performs all activities from product design, production of components, and final assembly to delivery to the final user by itself. Most often, organisations are elements of a value system or supply chain. Hence, value chain analysis should cover the whole value system in which the organization operates. Within the whole value system, there is only a certain value of profit margin available. This is the difference of the final price the customer pays and the sum of all costs incurred with the production and delivery of the product/service. Processes such as simple diffusion, facilitated diffusion, osmosis, and filtration are characterized as passive transport, while solute pumps are a form of active transport. Filtration is the process of which both water and solutes permeate a membrane from a region of higher fluid (hydrostatic) pressure to an area of lower fluid pressure. iv Due to the fact that filtration is based on pressure and the size of membrane pores, it is a passive process. Within the human body filtration occurs in the kidney and encompasses both blood and the fluid in the kidney tubule pressures. Active transport is a process that requires ATP in order for molecules to move. There are several reasons why active transport is required as oppose to passive transport: substances may be too large to pass through the membrane, substances may move against the concentration gradient as oppose to with it, or some substances may not be lipid soluble. v Amino acids and some sugars are transported into cells by solute pumps. An example of a solute pump is a sodium potassium pump. Within a sodium potassium pump, both K+ and Na+ are pushed into opposite regions across the cell membrane. Oscar Wilde Perhaps I feel compelled to write on the subject of depression because it is a selfish disease. It seeps into every crevice of one s life; it refuses to be ignored, to be relegated to some obscure corner of the mind. Perhaps I m writing about it because of what I have learned about my relationship with the disease. Perhaps the time has come when I m ready to stop cursing the depression and start embracing it. What I m about to say is terribly unfashionable, and I hope that you will forgive any offense that it may cause. In all truthfulness, I m glad that I have lived with depression as a companion. ... Today s class discussion was about Rational Theories, which states that individuals make reasonable decisions and apply them to their daily life activities. Individual make these decisions based on their best self interest. The major points of the Rational Theory are: Routine Activities Theory, Lifestyle Theory and Rational Choice Perspective. Routine activities theory states that the circumstances of an individual s life is mainly decided by the daily pattern of social interaction or activities. Therefore, depending on these routine activities criminal offenses could ascend or descent (Williams and McShane, 2013, p. 238). Accordingly, routine activities theory is basically the type of routine a person keeps, based on his/her circumstances. Since everyone has different routine activities, some individuals will be more prone to criminal attacks such as robbery, rape, murder, etc. as discussed in class. Newer Treatments For Schizophrenia Symptom Management Newer treatments for schizophrenia symptom management focus on both the DA and the 5 HT systems in an attempt to alleviate positive, negative and cognitive symptoms (Leucht et al., 2009; Leucht, Wahlbeck, Hamann, Kissling, 2003). The 5 HT hypothesis of schizophrenia arose from toxicologic explanations of mental illness that were popular in the 1950s (Osmond, 1958). Toxicologic explanations received their inspiration from the observation that exogenous substances could produce effects that resemble certain signs and symptoms of mental illness, such as hallucinations (Osmond, 1958). The 5 HT hypothesis arose based on the observation that hallucinogenic effects, such as those seen with LSD administration, are mediated by 5 HT agonism, and hence, schizophrenia symptoms likely arise from a similar mechanism (Baumeister Hawkins, 2004). However, in the 1970s, the 5 HT hypothesis of schizophrenia was almost completely replaced by the DA hypothesis, only making a comeback later with the proven effectiveness of the atypical antipsychotics, such as clozapine (Baumeister Hawkins, 2004). While the main action of typical antipsychotics is on the D2 receptor, atypical antipsychotics show enhanced activity at 5 HT receptors with a low affinity for D2 receptors (Divac et al., 2014). Atypical antipsychotics are more effective in reducing cognitive and negative symptoms and result in fewer EPS than the typical antipsychotics (Davis, Chen, Glick, 2003). According to Msanjila and Afsarmanesh (2008), who proposed numerous resolutions for building trust: focus on the what and not the how, define the parameter of operations, hold everyone accountable and set some consequences. While involved in a team, individuals need to trust their teammates in order to complete all tasks because getting the work done involves all members, which in turn stresses cooperation and collaboration. The loss of trust will cause conflicts to arise and members of the team will be unwilling to compromise, cooperate and agreements will never be achieved which will jepardizes the tasks from being accomplished. If a team loses that trust it may never truly be earned again and if it is, it takes an extraordinary amount of commitment and effort for it to be regained. Carrington One of the most famous cases that influenced the Fourth Amendment was that of Entick v. Carrington. This was only one of many civil cases against officials who raided people s homes and other places in search of materials connected with John Wilkes political pamphlets that attack both the government and the King. Mr. Entick, who was an associate of John Wilkes, sued because agents had entered his house forcefully and broken into desks and boxes that were locked. They then seized pamphlets, charts, and other printed materials. The courts decided the warrant gave the officials the right to search and seizure and the ability to issue a warrant for all a person s papers rather than only those accused of being criminal contrary to the genius of the law of England. The warrant was said to be invalid because it had no probable cause and no record was made of what had been seized. The Supreme Court has said this case is a guide to understanding what the Framers meant when writing the Fourth Amendment. Putting the Amendment to Use The reasoning for such an amendment was obvious. What the amendment really expresses are the rights to officials and people alike. An official ... • 40. The Theory Of Egoism And Altruism In this paper I will argue that selecting only one form of egoism is not enough to explain human motives and that it takes a mix of several theories to explain it, specifically a mix of ethical egoism and altruism, with the side note that intent is not important in this situation. The mix is important, as any one theory seemingly fails to encapsulate the scope of human interactions. Pure ethical egoism, the idea that each person should only try to help themselves, makes people out to be too greedy and seemingly unwilling to help anyone at any point in their lives. Pure altruism, the idea that people should use their abilities and advantages to exclusively help others, makes people too willing to sacrifice what they have for someone else. If people were completely altruistic nothing would ever be accomplished and eventually those advantages would become erased as people stop working to better themselves. I also believe that the intent of the action is not important so the morality of the action should be directly tied to the outcome, not the thought process of the person doing the action. All of these ideas will be explained in more detail later in the paper. This paper will look at each of these three factors individually, show why they are insufficient for explaining human motives on their own and then explain how they can all work in conjunction to better explain human motives. This paper will then go on to show how someone might disagree with this thesis by providing some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Indian Rebellion Research Paper The Portuguese were the first group of Europeans to enter Indian shores under Vasco da Gama in 1498. Goa, Bombay, Daman and Diu were set up as trading posts in India by the Portuguese. Goa remained a base until 1961, when it was seized by the Republic of India. The Portuguese were followed by the Dutch, who set up their main base in Ceylon, present day Sri Lanka; the British with their base in Surat and the French. Colonisation in India occurred due to the internal conflicts within the various ruling dynasties of India. By the second half of the nineteenth century, the British had exclusive control over most parts of the Indian subcontinent, including present day Bangladesh and Pakistan. The oppressive British rule over India for nearly a century resulted in mass uprisings and revolts against the Company that culminated in the Revolt of 1857. The result of this rebellion was that power over India was transferred from the East India Company to the British Crown. The Indian Penal Code and reforms in the field of education came into being post 1857. Under the British Raj, Indian economy and population grew at a steady rate of 1%. • 42. Cinderella, Aschenputtel, Little Saddleslut, And... Cinderella, Aschenputtel, Little Saddleslut, and Cenerentola. These are all examples of different versions of the same story. What is the appeal in adapting a story? Why or how is the meaning changed for adaptations? How have stories been adapted? What effects do the stories and adaptations have on people? There are numerous renditions of the same folktales, most differentiating due to the fact that they were each adapted to be based on their cultures. Certain cultures alter specific aspects of the story so that it can be more relatable to their society. However, these alterations can affect how people interpret the meaning or purpose of the story. In Tatar s article, An Introduction to Fairy Tales, she draws us in by describing childhood books as sacred objects. She takes a quote from Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. describing how the stories give lessons about what a child subconsciously knows that human nature is not innately good, that conflict is real, that life is harsh before it is happy and thereby reassure them about their own fears and their own sense of self, (Tatar 306). She describes how many adults long for the simplicity of enjoying those stories in their childhoods, only to realize that they outgrew them, and instead have been introduced to reality. The original stories were more for adults rather than for children. Nowadays, stories have been adapted to be more suitable for children. Fairy tales may allow a kid to wonder due to their charm, but they also can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
